It’s (Preseason) GAME DAY! #3

header                 (Header from CBS Sports)

It’s the game that’s traditionally closest to what a regular season game will be.  The starters will likely play a full half and likely into the 3rd Quarter.  It’s the first game the Dolphins will be playing at Sun Life Stadium after an offseason of renovations.  It’s one more game closer to a game that matters.

LET’S GO DOLPHINS!!!!

WELL NOW it’s 31-7 Brownies after 3 quarters. Raymond James Stadium looks similar to Tropicana Field as 3,000 remaining fans root mostly for the visiting team because home town fans have, you guessed it, GONE HOME!! Is Tampa the only city where the NHL team will outdraw the local NFL team this coming season??

  6. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Nat Moore just said what I thought about that last Ajayi catch and run. That shit won’t work in the NFL dude. LOL

Damien has been doing the same shit, he doesn’t do it when he catches the ball.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I disagree. I know Williams is a good receiver out of the backfield but he could still improve on his running overall. But he runs with conviction and is physical. For me it’s Miller/Williams 1/2.

Remember there isn’t big time game planning in these games. Even the 3rd PS game, it’s just the starters play longer. Nobody is showing their hand and special plays. It’s still fundamental football getting ready for the season.

  7. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Preseason stats mean nothing. It’s game ready work and that’s it. When do you ever go back to the PS to say hey look at this guy? Some PS stars get cut. LOL

Eli Manning completed 12-of-16 passes for 91 yards and one interception in Saturday’s preseason dress rehearsal against the Jets.
He was also sacked twice for six yards. Antonio Cromartie anticipated Manning’s last pass of the night and took it all the way back for an easy pick-six. He was looking for James Jones on the play.

I hope that we give Franks another five days, and start him in Thursday’s game to see what he has. If he continues to boom those kickoffs and hit his field goals, I would SERIOUSLY consider replacing Sturgis with him.

  27. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We keep saying the guys out there at the end of the game won’t be on the team, but that isn’t true Vigil, Bobby McCain, Thompson… mostly the late round (5th) rookies that will make the team were on the field at the end.

    Okay we won yeah! LOL

I have a little better idea of who’s making the cut and not. I for one don’t see it with James. I want to see more of Ajayi. Not necessarily as a return man, I just don’t see the instinctive play in James as a return man. I think we’ll fall back to Landry with the game day 46 there.

Out of the UDFA LBs it’s Vigil and/or Hull even though Hewitt forced the last fumble.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Yeah, they could try to put one of them on the practice squad too.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Not to be abrasive but I really don’t care about the Practice Squad, it’s an attempt at a minor league system that rears very little in the big scheme of things. I think the coaches saw enough tonight to move forward.

I’ve said it before, Coyle calls a good game and sometimes guys can’t make the fuckin play right in front of them. Those guys will be cut in the next few days. I saw a lot of Wheeler’s out there.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Earl Mitchell is the most underrated dude on defense. Most fans had Phillips and Mosely replacing him. It’s Suh and Mitchell as our starting DTs. Get with the program! LOL

You might be surprised to know that Suh plays the 3 tech at LDT and Mitchell is considered the Nose/Shade RDT. Makes sense if you look into it.

I think we keep 5 DTs because we can and that’s where we’re deep.
      Suh, Mitchell, Phillips, Johnson, Francis

The old saying is if the younger guy matches the vet in performance, go with the younger guy. I think that’s what we do. Has anyone seen Mosely go off?

Eagles RT Lane Johnson believes he suffered a sprained MCL in Saturday’s preseason game, but fully expects to be ready for Week 1.
Coach Chip Kelly claimed Johnson could have continued playing Saturday, but that’s a little hard to believe. Either way, neither Kelly nor Johnson seem concerned. The right tackle has 14 days to heal up.

  56. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Anyone know how to skip to the next line in Boulder’s spread sheet?

  57. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Thomas did what he’s done in the last two preseason games. He played well. He kept Tannehill upright. He looked like a serviceable left tackle.

“I feel good about myself,” he said. “I’ve always believed in myself. I knew I could get the job done. It just takes time. Nobody’s perfect coming in to this. I know how some people feel. You know. But it’s a process. You can’t always rush it. Sometimes you’ve got to go through the process to get yourself right.”

Thomas wasn’t kidding when he says he feels good about himself. He was practically giddy after the game — not just for his performance tonight filling in for the injured Branden Albert and Jason Fox at left tackle, but for how he’s played throughout training camp and the preseason as the team’s left guard.

“Last game was the real fun,” he said. “I don’t think you guys all watched the film. I was throwing people around in that game.”

  58. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

FORGIVE MY LACK OF GIDDINESS but Dallas Thomas IS NOT Brandon Albert!! – – And the injury to Pouncey means that, even if he plays in game 1, he likely WON’T be 100 per cent. –Lucky for us, Washington does not have one of the NFL’s best defensive lines. BUT, in games 3 and 4, Miami’s O-Line must deal with the Jets and Bills, two teams who DO HAVE STARS in the defensive line. What looked like a 4-0 start now looks a lot more daunting. Hickey and T-Baum MUST find our O-Line SOME HELP, and SOON!!

Cause all I did was watch Suh……I’m a believer now. He’ll never will lead the league in sacks like a top DE, but he’s a frick’n human wrecking ball. He changes the entire line play and — unlike a All Pro DE — he does it every single play…….pass or run.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I was watching him too. He gets off the line so fast (who cares he gets occasional encroachment penalties), his first step is one of amazement, then his techniques is sound, then on top of all that, he is a Herculean Bull that just overpowers anyone in his way.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Doubling him just means that he probably won’t get the sack or tackle the RB. He still pushes the middle of the pocket forward while taking up two blockers.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Doubling him means that extra lineman used on him isn’t blocking at the next level, leaving the LBs free to roam. The key to Zach’s success was Tim Bowens keeping the oline off of him.

  90. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s not the rating that matters, it’s the command of the offense, the pocket presence, the pinpoint placement of the ball…

Here’s what I think of the rating:
On one 3rd and long he threw well short of the first down to Greg Landay 😉 almost as if he was more worried about his comp % than he was about getting the first down. A true QB rating would give no credit for that completion.

Brian, Mitchell and others will be able to be BEASTIE with SUH taking up multiple blockers and consistently disrupting the offensive backfield.

This is why Hickey didn’t go LB early in the draft, in fact not at all. He resigned Sheppard, got Paysinger to add vet presence, and then got some really talented young UDFA to go along with Jenkins , Misi, & Tripp.

Suh & his DL Co. will also make life easier for our safeties & corners. They should be able to play more aggressive….IMO.

I posted last night that I wasn’t even sure the secondary was on the field, because of the job the front 7 were doing.

Yep! McCain is going to be worked in as he develops more which he needs. But he’ll be a hybrid defender and will probably be involved in blitzes in some packages and used as an occasional edge rusher.

Suh takes whoever it is that plays next to him to the Probowl

Glad they have him signed long-term cause have a feeling whoever plays next to Suh is going to start thinking their stats are worth more money than they actually are.

Yeppers, glad Mitchell is signed longterm. Now when Vernon puts up big numbers, it will sting trying to pay him. Hoping Fede & McPain can ball while on rookie contracts.
Also I’d like to see Ray Drew developed on our PS.
