Welcome to Ask Mike – 2015 Season Week 1

from Tim

Q – Okay week one, which receivers do you see being targeted the most? This includes TEs and RBs. I ask this because I want to know the fucking answer. LOL

Thank you!

I think Jarvis Landry will be the main target this week, and almost always unless proven otherwise. Tannehill and Landry are on the same page, and Landry gets open, and makes the catch, and fights for extra yardage every time.

I do think Greg Jennings will get some targets, and be on the field a lot. He runs great routes, and is a guy who knows how to play the game, and although last year in Minnesota, he had a down year, I expect bigger things this year from Jennings.

I also expect Jordan Cameron to get some big targets. he’s tough to cover down the seam, if Tannehill can find him open, he has potential to make some big plays. I think that’s what Cameron does best. I don’t think he’s a Mark Bavaro type, where you hit him with a 5 yard pass, and then he drags 3 guys for a 15 yard gain. He’s dangerous when he breaks open and gets good separation, because he has the speed to take one all the way.

I think MillerTime will get 2-5 passes on Sunday as well, and I think Damien Williams, Miller’s backup will also get a couple of targets. Still, I think it’s Jarvis Landry that will get the most opportunities.

from OD

Q – When the season is over do you think we will regret not taking the best available O-Lineman in the 2nd round.

I really hope not. I went back to take a look at who was available in the 2nd RD, but we also have to remember we traded back from RD 2 Pick 15 with the Eagles, to get 2 5th RD picks, and move down to RD 2 Pick 20.

We took DT Jordan Phillips at pick #52, and and there were no OL taken in between pick #47 (our original pick) and pick #52 (Jordan Phillips). Mitch Morse (OG), who I personally had no interest in at that point was taken at #49 by the Chiefs. Jake Fisher (OT) was taken by the Bengals at pick #53, right after we took Jordan Phillips. Fisher is a guy I wanted the Dolphins to draft.

As it turns out, Jake Fisher appears to be the heir apparent to the LT spot when Andrew Whitworth is done in Cincinnati, which is likely 2016, when Whitworth becomes an UFA.

I think the biggest piece to this puzzle or question, is how Branden Albert does this season. This was/has been one of my worries since before the draft. It seems doubtful #76 will be in the lineup Week 1 against the Skins, but all reports have been good, and Albert has been doing a little more each week, without any setbacks. Now it’s not just a matter of Branden Albert getting into the lineup, but to me, it’s that when he is in the lineup, he’s something close to the player he’s been previously, and not like Jake Long was at the end of his career in MIA. If he’s not effective, or healthy, or both, and we need to move either Jason Fox or Dallas Thomas to LT, and then move Jamil Turner to LG, and Billy Turner to RG, I think we might be in some trouble.

Most fans seem to have taken Albert coming back for granted, but I’m not one of them. If the O-line keeps us from what I think we can be, then YES, I think we should have taken an OL instead of a DT, Jordan Phillips. My guess is the OL will have been more valuable to us this year then the DT. Clearly, Earl Mitchell and Suh are the starters, and Jordan Phillips is the next guy in the rotation, but if big #76 isn’t right for us this season, I’ll be seriously regretting that pick. Hopefully, that’s not that the case Randy.

from Stanger

Q – What’s your over/under for sacks against the Redskins?
And while we are at it, how about their rushing yards?
Yeah……I’m thinking might be a whole different world in both categories.

I think Kirk Cousins is a pretty smart guy, and I’m sure he’s done his homework on our Dolphins defense. That being said, I’m sure the OC realizes that they don’t want to ask too much of Cousins, and have designed a lot of plays where the ball comes out quickly. The last thing they want is our defense all over Cousins because he’s holding the ball too long. However, neither the OC or Cousins really knows what they’re up against.

I would say the over/under for sacks against the Redskins should be 4.

As far as rushing yards, I would expect OD’s favorite, Alfred Morris to be a big part of their offense. He’s going to get a lot of carries, but not with great success. My guess is, unless they fall behind really fast, that Morris gets between 20-25 carries, but the over/under for yards should be about 70. It’s gonna be tough out there for big Alfred, as the Dolphins defense will not be offering much in the way of rushing lanes. I expect a volume of carries with little success.

from Pigsgerald Oinkustus Bacon

Q – Mike

If they weren’t the first game on our schedule, I might be stating on a
daily basis that the Redskins are the worst team in the NFL, that they had a
horrible offseason and that they would be lucky to win 4 games this

But they are our week 1 opponent. So I go into “don’t get over
confident” mindset even though I have no control of what happens on the field.
This is of course to protect myself from being let down, which is of course
inevitable if we lose, even if I expected to lose.

This is the damage I do
to my psychology every football year. I know I’m not the only one. What is
wrong with Dolfans? Are you willing to go in the record and call a win over the
Redskins a sure thing. Or are you as dysfunctional as the rest of us? Really
how bad are the Redskins?

I don’t think we’re going to lose, even if Branden Albert doesn’t start, (He says he’s starting). I could even say even if Branden Albert does play, because I don’t expect him to be in there all that much. Either way, I think, like you, the Redskins are a hot mess. If we want to be contenders, you take a team like the Redskins, and you bet them, beat them good. I’ll take a sloppy win, but I don’t think that happens Sunday against the Redskins. I expect an all around thrashing. I

I picked 30-6, and I meant it. We’re going to be all over them this week, without necessarily “running it up” on them. Joe won’t keep his foot on the accelerator all game, and we’ll be running the clock midway through the 3rd QTR until the game is over. We’ll be up by 17-20 points at halftime.

Just relax, and understand we’ve built a pretty good team. Think of this. Devante Parker is now healthy, and ready to go, and he’s like the 5th string WR. Of course he missed a lot of time, but we’re not desperate for his services! We have a nice corps of WR’s now, with Jennings and Stills and Landry, even if I think it’s Landry, Jennings and Stills. Our defense will be ravenous, and and will ravage the Redskins. Lamar Miller is going to have a nice day against the Skins. Jordan Cameron is going to make a couple of big plays. I expect at least 2 INT’s, and a fumble recovery. We will win the TO battle.

I’m confident we will win, and win strong on Sunday. Maybe it’s me who needs to be committed. lol
from GDP

Q – Deer Axe Mike,

With Brandon Albert confirming to start Sunday @ Washington, do you think the coaching staff & trainers are pushing Albert in too fast?
We’d sure hate to see a setback or poor play due to not being a 100%, just a lil over 10 months since tearing both ACL & MCL.

GetterDone Phins!

I think if Jason Fox wasn’t concussed, Fox would be starting, so in that regard, YES, I do think they are letting circumstances dictate the terms a bit. On the other hand, like I mentioned above to Pigsgerald, I don’t think for a second Albert will play the entire game, and despite his “starting” status, I don’t think he’s in there for more than a series or two or three. They don’t want/need to push Albert too far Sunday, and I don’t think they will. We’ll see a lot of movement on the line, with Dallas Thomas probably playing some LT, along with Jamil Douglas moving to LG, and Billy Turner at RG. I think Jeff Linkenbach might even play some LT Sunday. I think it’s really unrealistic to expect Branden Albert to go the entire game this quick, and he won’t. We’ll need big #76 to be in shape, so consider this his first preseason game. He’ll play for a few series, and then out he goes, as he leaves it in the hands of the aforementioned Thomas and/or Linkenbach.

And now for the babe of the week . . .

Why fair catch at the 7.

  3. Ken says:

In all seriousness Brady is not a good deep thrower. He is usually pretty far down in passer rating when throwing deep. That’s not his game.

    • Tim Knight says:

It’s okay if he dinks and dunks which he has done most of his career sans Randy Moss, the best deep threat WR ever. But some pundits can’t get past it with RT. LOL

  4. BoulderPhinfan says:

the pats might lose this. Brady seems very rusty and their o-line has issues.

  5. manitobafinfan says:

    Always liked deangelo

  6. Ken says:

Pats D line not looking all that great. They are opening holes to run on them

  7. manitobafinfan says:

    Nice grab

  8. Rockphin says:

    HOLY COW nice play brown

  9. finfanrob says:

lol, lets not even mention that he had to made that great catch cause the defender was into him before the ball got there.

  10. Rockphin says:

#72 whiffed twice on that sack

  11. manitobafinfan says:

Hmmmm issues with pitts headsets Coincidence ?

  12. Rockphin says:

  13. Ken says:

    That’s an illegal block

  14. Rockphin says:

  15. finfanrob says:

miller even caught that ball a yard up field but some how the refs mark it where he is pushed back too. hmmmm, must be a new rule for tonights game

But they were getting the Pat’s radio signals SEE the Pat’s aren’t the cheats the Steelers are

i thought he said they were getting the pats radio station. not the pats signals

  17. steveccnv says:

First fuckin game of the yr and these fuckin cheats are at it again, messin with the radio in the Steelers QBs helmut. I’m so fuckin tired of this shit, bunch of puzzy fn owners around the league that let this happen.

  18. Rockphin says:

The spot was bad, but I don’t think he got the first

  19. finfanrob says:

i dont either, but just more bs calls the pats get.

  20. Ken says:

LOL Steelers getting the Patriots radio broadcast on their headsets. Nothing to see here.

    • steveccnv says:

A lot to see there, someone needs to put their foot down, they said Tomlin is hot over it. If I were him I’d stop the game until they fixed it.

  21. finfanrob says:

wow, pitt gets a horrible mark and the pats get a great one. who would of thunk it.

  22. Rockphin says:

You were right I was mistaken. It was the radio broadcast of the game. FUCKING PATRIOT CHEATS Must have been the prison release IT guy

  23. finfanrob says:

your are right. nothing to see here

based on this so far, no doubt the nfl mishandled the brady thing on purpose and the pats are assured another 14-2 season and the home field advantage for the playoffs

  24. steveccnv says:

Good thing no one else is home…

  25. Rockphin says:

I will probably not watch “The Player” on NBC….just sayin

oh. i dont now what station i saw it on, but a reality show coming for the next weatherman. i guess they have finally run out of ideas.

  28. Rockphin says:

boy they are jawin out there

  29. Rockphin says:

    fuck you mother fuckers

  30. Rockphin says:

the guy who missed the tackle should have aimed a little lower.

  31. Ken says:

The Steelers D is going to be their achilles heel. It’s just not a great group. No real pass rushers and lots of inexperience in the secondary which is a bad mix. Decent linebackers but front and back 4 not all that great.

  32. manitobafinfan says:

K ben git yer shit together

  33. finfanrob says:

oh look, to roller derby is on. think i will watch it, it is more believable then the nfl

  34. Rockphin says:

    Backup quarterback Luke McCown. LOL

  35. manitobafinfan says:

  36. Ken says:

That’s it. Challenge those shit corners.

  37. finfanrob says:

lol, you mean the shit corner who was grabbing him all down field and no penalty.

  38. finfanrob says:

you can be a shit player when you play for the cheats. you dont have to follow the rules

  39. son of a son of a shula says:

F’n patsies interferred with our signal too, I haven’t seen any of the game since 9:00 this sucks.
    Is there any score yet?

  40. Rockphin says:

    bad trade for Pitt

  41. Ken says:

Fuck you Scobee. I am going to lose in fantasy because of my kicker

  42. Rockphin says:

    bad pick for ken

  43. Ken says:

Why was that not offensive PI?

  44. Rockphin says:

I thought pick plays were illegal?

  45. manitobafinfan says:

    Over LOS

  46. manitobafinfan says:

    Stepon Tuit. Nice name

  47. Tim Knight says:

This is why we signed Suh to pair him with Mitchell. No comfort zone for Brady in the middle of the pocket to set and throw. That’s where he thrives. He is not good moving outside the pocket – it limits his mechanics.

  48. manitobafinfan says:

    Edelman needs a taunting flag

  49. finfanrob says:

lol, that big mouth fucking idiot said it wasnt certain till a week ago of brady was going to play or not. he should have asked me i said all summer brady was going to play

  50. son of a son of a shula says:

    It’s back. Thanks Toba

  51. Ken says:

    Pitt’s defense is pathetic

  52. finfanrob says:

suh is going to have no effect against the pats. they are all set for another sb run. goodell made sure of that

  53. manitobafinfan says:

Wonder who has gronk on ther ffb team ?😷

  54. Rockphin says:

I don’t know. I’m watching the Pats put a whooping on Pitt. I am concerned about our LB’s & Safeties now.

  55. finfanrob says:

i have no love loss for the pats or anything boston. if there is going to be another 9/11 attack i sure as hell hope it is in boston

  56. Rockphin says:

Bro, I’ve been here the whole time

  57. manitobafinfan says:

    Now finish fucking drive!!

  58. Rockphin says:

Man I wish our QB could throw passes like that.

  59. manitobafinfan says:

  60. Ken says:

Would have been a tough catch but Wheaton should have had it. He had both hands on that ball

  61. manitobafinfan says:

    What a dumbass

  62. Ken says:

    Fuck Heyward Bey

  63. finfanrob says:

looks like pitt is using the joe philbin clock management method

  64. manitobafinfan says:

  65. Ken says:

Holy shit he made a FG

  66. finfanrob says:

most of our grand mothers could play for the pats with they way the get calls.

  67. manitobafinfan says:

    Woohoo he got one

  69. manitobafinfan says:

Well it should be 14-9 and pitt aint done shit. Lets hope they turn it around for 2nd half

  70. finfanrob says:

oh well i have had enough of this fake shit. the nfl swallowed for brady and kraft, they will be back in the SB night all

  71. Tim Knight says:

Folks, as you know I don’t necessarily believe in a higher power but I do believe in energy and positive vibes – we can discuss that at another time. My cousin’s son who has suffered a head injury while doing free-style skiing is in critical condition. He’s in a very critical time for the possibility of recovery. All good energy and faith is welcome for a really great 16 year old kid.

    Thanks, Peace & Love.

  72. Ken says:

Oh man Steelers D is in trouble.

  73. Ken says:

I will see if Pitt can do anything here or else I just might be done for tonight.

  74. manitobafinfan says:

Ken : what is a Must Do when in Boston We are at loss other than the game. Any ideas ?

    • manitobafinfan says:

We are actually staying in Foxborough

    • Ken says:

Boston has a world famous aquarium. The freedom trail is also a great experience. It goes through much of the famous Revolutionary War sites in Boston. The Duck tour is fun. Those are the amphib vehicles that go through much of the city and then into the harbor. The north end has great Italian restaurants. The John Hancock Tower has a great observatory on the top where you can look out all over Boston. There are pubs all over town including the Bull Finch pub which the show Cheers was based off of.

  75. manitobafinfan says:

    Nice run

  76. Ken says:

There ain’t shit to do in Foxborough.

  77. manitobafinfan says:

    Good job now hold em

  78. manitobafinfan says:

    Tackling is shit

  79. manitobafinfan says:

  80. Ken says:

Sack on Brady. Too a big hit. Yes!

  81. Ken says:

Lets go Pitt. Get another score and make a game of this.

  82. manitobafinfan says:

    Nice flag

  83. manitobafinfan says:

  84. manitobafinfan says:

  85. Ken says:

    Well that sucked.

  86. manitobafinfan says:

    Well with in a TD.

  87. Ken says:

Well my kicker is now in positive points on his 4th fg attempt

  88. steveccnv says:

What a horseshit call that was on the one, the guy from the cheats was in the neutral zone and they call Pitt for illegal procedure, it just doesn’t stop.

  89. manitobafinfan says:

    Sack this bitch

  90. Ken says:

Well the Steelers forgot to cover Gronk again

  91. manitobafinfan says:

  92. Ken says:

    I hate them so much.

  93. manitobafinfan says:

Wow. Glad hes on my fantasy tram but wow

  94. Ken says:

The Pats can take their fat cheerleaders and go f themselves. Fucking ball always bounces there way.

  95. manitobafinfan says:

    Should be reversed

  96. manitobafinfan says:

Well that should pretty much do it

  97. olddolphan says:

HAD MAJOR installation problems with DIRECTV today/tonight causing me to miss most of the Pats-Steelers game. Can NOW get the game on 212 (NFL Channel) on 1 of my 2 new TV sets. Local NBC affiliate has been “down for repairs” for much of the evening. Since the “CHEATS” are winning, I’m GLAD I missed it. More local reps from DIRECTV will be at my house tomorrow to, hopefully, fix what went wrong today. HOPE this is NOT a sign of things to come in the NFL season. –I’m OUT!

  98. manitobafinfan says:

    Of course holding on Pitt

  99. Ken says:

Alright. I am done as are the Steelers. I am out. Peace to you all.

  100. The Flying Pig says:

    This game sucks

  101. The Flying Pig says:

That was the worst stretch I’ve seen by heywRd bey
    What a pansy

  102. steveccnv says:

The more things change…Cheats still get every call imaginable, from the mysteriously missed offside at the goal line to the phantom illegal hands to the face on the big Antonio Brown catch with about a minute to go.

From the Steelers, about what I expected without Palomalu, I just didn’t expect all the blown coverages.

  103. Brian in NY says:

Their installers are terrible, but their customer service is very good. If you have a problem AFTER the installation, the service team is usually much better as well.

    • jetsssuck says:

I saw that. Imagine if Hillary gets in. Did you see Bowe burgdahl news where they are charging him with lessor charge saying he deserted but no body died because of his actions. They secretly changed the mission classifaction of search and rescue where up to 6 died looking for his sorry ass to reconiese (sic) so nobody died during this mission.

      • jetsssuck says:

i believe they are going to have the penalty phase Sept 17 which we all know is going to be charges that don’t fit the crime. Some are saying he may get less than 5 years in prison with a general discharge meaning he will get full veterans benefits.

      • Try Pod says:

Don’t know what any of that means, though I suspect there is some conspiracy theory attached to it now.

      • jetsssuck says:

it means the coward is going to be free after serving less than 5 years in prison when he should be before a firing squad for desertion. Everyone knows the 11 general orders from every service branches boot camp. To top it off he will be eligible for veterans benefits.

      • Try Pod says:

That’s interesting, except it has nothing to do with my post, which is about mixed gender forces in the military.
