This is where c.wake practices during the off season and Mike Rumpt former nfl player is head coach

  2. CavalierKong says:

Damned Pirates are going to make us have to practically win out to take the title.

  3. CavalierKong says:

I’m hoping the Cubs can get one of three against the Arrg’s. That will give us a tiny bit of room for error, then if we can get one of three against the Arrrrrrg’s when we face them we’ll be ok.

  4. Ken says:

Both Cubs and Pirates are great stories. Would like to see one of those 2 make a run in the playoffs.

    • CavalierKong says:

I would love to see one of those two clubs make a run too…right up to the divisional round, lol.

      • Ken says:

That’s right you are a Cardinals fan. Kind like being a Pats fan. LOL

      • CavalierKong says:

If you mean sustained excellence then you’re right. If you’re implying the Cards are perennial cheaters, not so much. The Cards had one incident which may have been disgruntled employees, handled it the right way and now it’s over.

  5. CavalierKong says:

The National League is strong this year. Of course you have the Central, which has perhaps the 3 best teams in the entire league and now the Mets and Dodgers are playing their best ball of the year. I could see any of these 6 teams representing the National league in The Series. Any of them could get hot and make a run in the playoffs.

  6. Rockphin says:

And Buffalo’s superior conditioning will pay off in the 4th quarter as Philbin’s poor choices cause the Fins to blow another lead. SURE HOPE I’m wrong!!
    Reply

    OD, YOU ARE WRONG!!!!

What makes you think we are going to have the lead in this game at ANY point?

  7. Brian in NY says:

    Ken,
The inning limit is up to Boras?

    • Ken says:

He seems to be the one calling the shots. If he tells Harvey to have an innings limit guess what Harvey will do. I hate Boras if you can’t tell

      • Brian in NY says:

Haha! Everyone hates him! No way he is calling the shots. That will be up to the Mets. If Boras starts pulling some shit in the playoffs and Harvey concurs with him then Harvey will be gone this offseason.

  8. CavalierKong says:

If it can’t be us, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Mets, Cubs or Pirates win it all this year.

    Work over. Cheers, fellas.

  9. Try Pod says:

    Ken,
I tried my best to respond to your post. And I am just saying what I think, based on what I have seen and heard, not trying to be a contrarian for contrarian’s sake.

    • Ken says:

I know you are not being contrarian. I am not trying to be either. I just think RG III was so good as a rookie that you have to give him another chance. Go look at his numbers as a rookie. 102 QBR. 3,200 yards passing, 20 TDs to 5 ints and over 8 yards an attempt. He was awesome. You don’t just go from awesome to 3rd string. That’s just my take on him. He was one guy I was really high on and he came out like a world beater. I am not sure he can be that guy again but who knows. He needs out of Washington and he will get his chance next year. I am out. Peace.

  10. Ken says:

The wife is not feeling well (sciatica) and the kids are at their first middle school dance so I got to go take care of the wife then go pick up the kids before they get into too much trouble. I am out for now. Peace to you all.

  11. Tim Knight says:

All I want to see it the Mets make the playoffs and get a taste of it. Anything else is gravy for me.

7.5 games up and the magic number at 3 I think it could happen this weekend. 🙂

I know. I guess, as fans, we’ve just been through a lot of revamps

Yeah and get ready for another one when we lose this year and the HC get’s replaced with the new flavor of the year. (Some guy who just got fired from another staff…)

  13. getterdone says:

Go Braves! (go get that #1 dart pick)

  14. Tim Knight says:

We’re relying on a lot of young players who haven’t accomplished much or anything or solidified themselves yet that make this team go.

    Offense:
    LG Thomas 3rd year
    RG Douglas Rookie
    RT James 2nd year

    TE Sims 3rd year

    WR Matthews 4th year
    WR Landry 2nd year
    WR Stills 3rd year
    WR Parker Rookie

    RB Miller 4th year
    RB Williams 2nd year

    QB Tannehill 4th year

    Defense:
    DE Vernon 4th year
    DE Shelby 4th year
    DE Fede 2nd year

    DT Phillips Rookie
    DT Francis 3rd year

    LB Jenkins 3rd year
    LB McCain 2nd year
    LB Vigil Rookie

    CB Taylor 3rd year
    CB Bo. McCain Rookie
    CB Lippett Rookie

    S Aikens 2nd year
    S Thomas 3rd year
    S Kovacs 3rd year

    K Franks Rookie
    P Darr Rookie

It’s undeniable that these young guys are the key to this team getting to the next level. They have to start making more big plays and making a difference or it’s not going to happen.

    • Rockphin says:

      Pro bowlers on that list.

Just not while they still play here if history tells us anything with this team.

PPL clamoring all off season for a gOG we cut years ago as an example.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

The problem is we’re still almost at the cap. We spent all our money on a handful of players and have to rely on young cheap salaries. The problem is the people we spent money on are either not producing (suh) or are injured (albert). So all we’re left with are a bunch of young players 😦

    • jetsssuck says:

this team is made up of young players and we are developing players through the draft. We have to do this because of the cap position but this isn’t a bad thing. The team decided this is the direction that is best for the franchise and it has proven to be good for teams like Pittsburgh and Green bay in the past. The draft position this team is taking is best available player instead of drafting for positional need. We can finally do this after 10-15 years and this coaching staff is perfect for developing players

  15. getterdone says:

Tim, I see what you’re doing there….yes we are a young team, but so is most every other team these days as well.
I used to say the same thing, but am weening myself off of that excuse.
Turning 30 for several positions is seen as a bad thing and a time to replace that older personnel for clubs in today’s speed first NFL.

We need innovative coaching that can effectively compete against other top NFL coaches….this includes not only game planning, play calls, but also getting team ready mentally, motivationally.

    Go Phins! Go Sam!

  17. Tim Knight says:

Mets game: that ball hit the glove and nobody is saying it. The catcher wrapped his glove around Wright’s bat.

    ——————
Cav you talking about that small town team with three winning season out of the last 23……say it ain’t so.

You guys have the div absent a movie finish by the Bucs…….think you’d be much more worried if you had a wildcard game coming up against Arrieta, but guess you’ve gotten spoiled over the years. 🙂

  19. Tim Knight says:

GD, thanks for keeping the positive energy going for Sam.

What I’m doing here has nothing to do with the coaching staff. It is what is. Those players I mentioned will be called upon. We have our vets who have had some success elsewhere but not here. I mentioned 27 players who have not accomplished anything significant in the NFL and some of our vets haven’t either. Until they start doing it I’m not so sure.

  20. Tim Knight says:

Lucas Duda with his 2nd 3 run HR of the night. Mets lead Reds 9-0 and the Nats are down 8-2. The magic number could be 1 after tonight. 🙂

I am in teeny bopper hell. Just picked up the kids from their first middle school dance and talked into taking them to the local ice cream shop so they could meet the rest of their friends. It’s wall to wall 13 year olds. Somebody shoot me

  25. getterdone says:

Wyo, looks like Albert & Sims are not going to play either.

    • Tim Knight says:

And the depth kicks in. We have to get out of our shell and start making plays. I see highlights every year and we’re not in a lot them.

  26. sb7mvp says:

What is your definition of significant Tim? because a lot of the players on that list are making significant plays for this team. Not just this year, but did so last year as well. You left Stoneburner off the list btw.

    • Tim Knight says:

Look at it again. What have those players really done and they’re on the 53? It’s not like we added a few young studs to a 7 year Tannehill team that’s had some success. There is no history with this team. We’re still in infancy. Look at it however you’d like, I view it like this.

This has nothing to do with defending the coaching staff. I’m looking at the 53 regardless of who the coaches are. Until I see it we’re 1-1 and not that impressive.

(and i was saying enjoy it, like any old man with his kids grown and out of the house. i do miss the days they were here. i have said it on here before, best time of my life was with my son on the baseball field or with my daughter practicing tennis)

    • Ken says:

I wish my son continued to play baseball. He gave it up after last year. I really did enjoy that. I helped coach and while it was challenging to help coach your own son it was still a great experience but after doing both summer and fall ball he got burnt out and that was it for him.

  33. Ken says:

    Stanger;
I have spent much time at Friendly’s. I went to Western New England College School of Law. The building was known as the S. Prestley Blake Law Center. S. Prestley Blake was the founder of Friendly’s. He also essentially funded the founding of the law school I went in Springfield Mass. Friendly’s has kind of fallen on some hard times in recent years. They closed like 2/3 of their restaurants in Connecticut. I was very sad about. Fortunately there are still a couple that are close by that we still go to.

  34. finfanrob says:

    ken,

yeah i get that. my son started when he was 3. then about 10 started playing both league and aau ball. by the time he got to high school he was burnt out, didnt even try out for his high school team, went to football instead. he wasnt a bad ball player, not sure if he would have made his high school team. he went to a private catholic high school who could pretty much ‘recruit’ talent. but coaching his teams and the all star tournaments were always so much fun.

  35. finfanrob says:

lol @ ken sent to the car.

i think after every practice and game i was told on the way home when my son was around 10 and older ‘dad, you are not funny just stop in front of them’

  36. finfanrob says:

    ken,

you coached too? you will like this. (and yeah bit bragging as father) after one game when my son was 12 a father from the other team came up to me, and i had during the years coached his son at times so knew the kid and dad. but the father comes up to me smiling and laughing telling me thanks. cause of your son, my son just said he will never pitch again. robbie went 5 for 5, with the first four just bombs he hit off his son. the last one he hit deep to center and it hit the top of the fence and fell in play.

my son and i laughed later about the last a bat…..cause it was the longest single ever, he hit it thought it was out too so just jogged to first base.

    • Ken says:

LOL. Similar thing happened in softball a couple of weeks back This kid on our team crushes one to left center off the top of the fence and he was styling just looking at it then he realizes that he has to start running, rounds first and realizes he missed the bag so by the time he goes back and touches first the ball is back in the infield and he has the longest single ever. Needless to say we gave him a lot of shit about that.

  37. finfanrob says:

    Ken says:

Up until about a year ago they always wanted me around. How things change. LOL.

lmao, yep just wait till high school when you are ordered to just wait around the corner.

  38. CavalierKong says:

    Stanger,
If we lose tonight, you guys are 3 back with 8 to go and 3 games left against us. This thing ain’t over.

    • CavalierKong says:

And losing the division does worry me. I definitely don’t want to face Arrieta in a one game take all. Honestly though, this whole season is just gravy for me. We’ve been beat down with injuries, have a ton of youth and are still kicking butt. But I honestly don’t think we’re going to advance in the playoffs. Our pitching has started to show some cracks and I just don’t think we have the bats to cover unless our pitching is top notch.

  39. Ken says:

Alright guys this old man is turning in. I am out. Peace to you all.

  40. finfanrob says:

lol ken. i kept giving it to my son. having fun when we went for wings after the game, but i did tell him later what the dad had said and told him that i get just youth ball but at any level still kind of impressive with the four bombs

  41. finfanrob says:

why are you guys talking mlb, you all do know the Rays are out of it. i dont know why you even care anymore

  42. finfanrob says:

  55. stangerx says:

Ken — interesting on your Friendly’s connection……glad to here that my banana splits paid for part of your of your set in law school. The one in Westport closed years ago, but I have seen them around when I visit.

  56. stangerx says:

” We’ve been beat down with injuries, have a ton of youth and are still kicking butt. But I honestly don’t think we’re going to advance in the playoffs.”
    ———————
Cav — I’ll say cry me a river when it comes to winning the div……cause even it ain’t over it might as well be absent a Pirates sweep and/or taking the next two from the Cubs with one against bearded Jake.

And while I am not trying to pile on, I think the winner of the NL Wildcard game will be in the world series. Just to show I am not being a homer……..think the chances are two out of three that that WC winner will be the Cubs. Man how you have to scrape out runs against that guy — you start thinking, “well maybe they’ll make an error and hope his pitch count gets up there.”

  57. Mike E. says:

Right now the Cubs and Pirates look the best in the NL, BUT . . .

Things can change in a hurry. Anything can happen in a one game series, and I think anything can happen in a 5 game series too. A 7 game series, the better team usually wins.

    • Tim Knight says:

Win today and we’re in. We don’t even have to rely on the Nats even though they’ll likely oblige at some point. 🙂

      • Mike E. says:

It’s nice to earn a berth, although it did look shaky there at the end. The Nats just laid down, and made it easy. Still, the Mets record isn’t too shabby.

  58. bat says:

So baseball can slog through 162 tedious sleep inducing games, but are so pressed for time that they will eliminate one of their best teams in a one game playoff that will be as representative of sorting out the better team as a coin flip. No way they can fit in a 5 or 7 game series. Makes perfect sense.

    • Tim Knight says:

At least they’re making the division matter. But I agree for the most part that after such a long season it should be decided by record.

  59. Mike E. says:

As it is, I think there may be baseball in November. They need to even up the amount of teams that make the playoffs to avoid the 1 game playoff

  60. bat says:

Mike … How about playing a 150 game season. I can’t imagine there will be many fans distraught at the idea of losing a dozen interminable regular season games.

  61. Mike E. says:

    Bat

It’s not gonna happen. Stats would then have to have an asterisk, and they don’t want to have to do that. I think that’s the main reason why it likely won’t happen.

  62. bat says:

Tim .. Regardless of how they seed, the notion of a one game shot in the dark as a “playoff” after 162 games is absurd.

  63. Tim Knight says:

Mike E, it’s a good feeling to see your team take over a division and win it whether it’s strong or not. We took it at 8.5 games. Yeah it got a little scary at what, a 5.5 game lead? LOL

  64. bat says:

Mike … After the steroid mania the whole sport should be one big asterisk. …lol

  65. bat says:

Tim … I’m a Tiger fan in the AL and Cub fan in the NL … but I hate the one game playoff regardless of the Cubs possible participation ( I actually think it favors them if they throw Arrieta)

  66. Mike E. says:

    Bat

While I totally agree with that, most baseball purists don’t even recognize the accomplishments of the steroid players. I know i don’t. There are so many things that affect stats, such as ballparks (Colorado for example, great for hitters, awful for pitchers), no salary cap, playing in the NL as opposed to the AL where they have the DH and therefore 9 hitters in the lineup, but I really don’t think they will ever shorten the season.

  67. Mike E. says:

I’ve decided that not one of the Mets starting pitchers has been dominant since around the all-star break, or maybe shortly after. I think they’re all tired, and I’m not really sure what to expect from any of them in the playoffs. The only guy who isn’t tired that will likely start is Steven Matz. He’s the wild card.

  68. bat says:

Mike ….You’re probably right that it will never happen, but there is no sensible reason why it should not.

  69. Tim Knight says:

Bat, gotcha on your MLB teams. I heard on the radio today that a good young Tiger pitcher was pitching a perfect game through 5 and was pulled due to a pitch limit. The same shit is going on with Harvey and he pitches today. Sports in general hasn’t gotten bizarre. It’s all about a payday now.

  70. stangerx says:

“Things can change in a hurry. Anything can happen in a one game series, and I think anything can happen in a 5 game series too. ”

For sure Mike E — one of the nice things about baseball. We get a hundred game win team in MLB like what….every three or four years?

100 games is 10-6 in the NFL. turns “any given Sunday” into “this guy did good tonight.”

    • Mike E. says:

No doubt, 100 wins is a serious accomplishment. On the other hand, 10-6 and 11-5 teams lose to 8-8 wild card teams. It’s all about being hot at the right time. The Pirates happen to be pretty hot right now, just gotta hope they stay hot.

      • Tim Knight says:

I hope the Mets’ bats are getting hot again at the right time.

Terry has a lot of options to work with now with a more talented lineup and bench. He’s done a really good job this year.

  71. Mike E. says:

I think Collins has done a fabulous job balancing everyone’s playing time, pinch hitting guys, and keeping the right players in the lineup who have earned it. I don’t think he could have done any better, I really mean that. Everyone on the team seems hungry, and content. That’s pretty impressive.

Most baseball purists I know hated the addition of the WC in the first place. Baseball is the only sport that hasn’t watered down their playoffs by including half the league. But since it’s been added it would be nice to see them remove the basically arbitrary one game playoff.

Would like to get your email if that’s cool with you?

      • CavalierKong says:

Of course, bro. Just throw a @gmail.com on the end of my name.

What’s going on with the Sam thing? I saw it on both sites and thought it was a Mets thing but from what I just read above I take it that is not the case…

As it is, I think there may be baseball in November. They need to even up the amount of teams that make the playoffs to avoid the 1 game playoff
    ——————————

Good point Mike E. Could absolutely see six teams make with the two with the best records in each league getting a bye. No play-in game and would leave even the teams running away with divisions worried about avoiding the first round. Not rocket science……it’s what the NFL does.

  76. Rockphin says:

Oh, excuse me…. I didn’t mean to interrupt your baseball blog…. I was looking for The Miami Dolphins blog

  83. Rockphin says:

  84. getterdone says:

I tried posting something about Sam….and the Phins playing their 50th home opener….keeps saying (duplicate), no matter how many times I change it….oh well.

    Miami Dolphins ✔ @MiamiDolphins
It’s the 99th regular season meeting between us and Buffalo.

  87. Tim Knight says:

Duda grand slam in the first. That’s two 3 run HRs and a grand slam in like 24 hours. Well done! 🙂

  88. herdfan says:

I’m bored so I changed the header image. The old one was before the renovations. Maybe someone can take a new pic for us at the fest?

  89. Mike E. says:

    Tim

I’m taping the game, hoping to see some celebration!

  90. finfanrob says:

I’d be ok with 49 & save the other 50 for the Cheats.

i’d be ok if they just played a good game from start to finish

  94. stangerx says:

I’m such an idiot. I will be home for the wildcard game……did a search and grabbed a date from some year past. This idiot is real happy right now though. Least get to see the likely demise. Pretty clear now it will be at home though.

BTW — 8 in a row for the Bucs, even if it most likely ends tmrw….for the same reason as why the WC is a ten-foot hurdle…….but maybe I can get David Garrard to invite Arrietta to a pool party at his place before the playoffs…lol

  95. finfanrob says:

    wow, just more horrible officiating.

  96. finfanrob says:

lol, just go to love these idiot players. tenn is 3-13 on their own 10ish. gators no times outs and about 50 sec to half time the safety makes a tackle on a obvious running play then celebrates it, but of course tenn has already scored 17 points. way to go idiot, celebrate you did one little thing while your defense is set to give up 34 points
