Game Day – Week 4 – Dolphins vs Jets

header(header from CBS Sports)

Perhaps another trip across the pond will help the Miami Dolphins prevent their season from potentially spiraling out of control.

They’ll try to avoid a third straight defeat Sunday in London against a New York Jets team that’s looking to bounce back from its first defeat.

Last season, Miami (1-2) was 1-2 and coming off two straight losses when it went to London and rolled to a 38-14 victory over Oakland. Though the Dolphins would go on to lose the game that followed, at least they are familiar with their current plight.

“We’ve been here before, so we know what we gotta do, and that’s just go back to work, find a way to get this W,” safety Michael Thomas’ told the team’s official website.

Saddled with high expectations after adding $114 million defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and confident quarterback Ryan Tannehill and running back Lamar Miller would take their play to a higher level, the Dolphins have floundered out of the gate. They needed a fourth-quarter rally to win 17-10 at Washington in Week 1, never led during a three-point loss at Jacksonville and were blown out 41-14 by Buffalo at home last Sunday.

Fourth-year coach Joe Philbin appeared to be on thin ice heading into the season, and might fall through if things don’t improve. Publicly, Philbin hasn’t shown too much concern for these early struggles or his own job security but won’t sugarcoat the team’s current state.

”This is not a time to panic,” he said. ”We’re not getting 53 new players. We’re not getting 24 new coaches. We’re either going to find solutions to these problems or not, and we’re either going to stick together or not.”

Philbin said that lineup changes could happen this week, perhaps on defense.

The addition of Suh hasn’t kept the Dolphins from yielding 435 rushing yards – second-most in the league. They’ve recorded one sack and allowed a combined 101.8 passer rating to the trio of Kirk Cousins, Blake Bortles and Tyrod Taylor.

”I’m disappointed, but I’m mostly disappointed in myself,” embattled defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle said. ”I’ve got to do a better job getting guys in the right spots.”

Offensively, Tannehill has completed 61.4 percent of his passes with five touchdowns but threw all three of his interceptions last week. He’s also been sacked seven times.

Miller set career highs with 1,099 rushing yards and eight TDs last season, but has gained 105 without a score on 30 attempts while dealing with an ankle issue.

”Guys are frustrated,” Tannehill said. ”We know we’re a better team than we’ve showed. There’s no panic, but definitely urgency to get this thing turned around.”

Tannehill’s completed only 57.6 percent of his passes and has four TDs and six INTs while splitting his six starts against New York (2-1). Miller ran for a career-high 178 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries during a 37-24 season-ending home loss to the Jets in 2014.

However, both could have a hard time getting untracked against a New York defense that allowed 17 points prior to last week’s 24-17 loss to Philadelphia. Despite the defeat, the Jets yielded 231 yards and rank fourth in the league giving up 298.3 per game.

With four turnovers and a number of missed tackles on Darren Sproles’ 89-yard punt return for a TD, the Jets feel they hurt themselves more than the Eagles did.

“We didn’t lose this game because we thought we were better than we are,” center Nick Mangold said. ”We lost because of execution.”

With Chris Ivory sidelined by a quad injury, New York managed 47 rushing yards and Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three interceptions after throwing two in the first two contests.

”It’s just as important not to overreact for a loss as it is to a win,” first-year coach Todd Bowles said. ”We didn’t overreact to the two wins, we’re not going to overreact to the one loss.”

Ivory, who leads the team with 148 rushing yards and has scored twice, should return for this contest after being a full participant in practice Thursday and Friday. He’s averaged 3.7 yards per carry while gaining 171 in four games against the Dolphins.

While Ivory and star cornerback Darrelle Revis (hamstring) are probable to play, Eric Decker (knee) is a game-time decision after sitting out last week’s game. Decker is listed as questionable after missing practice Wednesday and being limited on Thursday and Friday.

This will be the Jets’ first game in London.

”I think guys think it’s cool to go over there,” Fitzpatrick said. “It will be a unique experience for all of us and hopefully bring the team together even more.”

It’s time to kick some ass fellas!  GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Landry looks like the only one with any kind of professional pride

yep, why earlier i said he had the only sack on the team.

sorry the guy got hurt but how is that not a PI?

  4. New Age's avatar New Age says:

If we score here, we might actually win one of 4 quarters.

yep and probably win blowbin another week.

  6. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I haven’t watched since start of 3rd quarter. Has his passing gotten any better? Are the deep balls still awful?

  7. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

naples – that was definitely pass interference on Cameron

  8. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I actually liked that throw in the end zone to Jennings

    Worth a shot

  9. bat's avatar bat says:

New Age … The deep ball sometimes draws a PI ..Otherwise it is useless.

I actually liked that throw in the end zone to Jennings

yeah if that was a strength of your qb, but it isnt. why put him in a situation you know with little chance of success

  11. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I still dont know why Miller doesnt get more targets.

  12. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

God i love Landry. Can we find 52 more

Horrible pass in the end zone again

    Good design
    Good route
    Bad pass again

  17. bat's avatar bat says:

    That’s on Tanny …Horrible ..No touch …

  18. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

As I said last year, keeping Philbin was a mistake. It’s costing the fans extra year of misery

Fuck you Ross and your loyalty

All you have to do is run a quick slant here to Landry

  20. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Refs come up big again …

  24. New Age's avatar New Age says:

14/33. We really might need to look at QB as our top 2 pick. Who’s coming out? Coaches spent all offseason working on his RZ throwing.

  25. bat's avatar bat says:

  26. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

  31. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    bat,

not knocking the refs they are the best offense this game, but they blew that call

  32. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

  33. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

Revis cheats again, been doing that all his career.

  36. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

  37. bat's avatar bat says:

How is that not a PI? …. Total Revis bullshit no call ..Overrated piece of shit..

  38. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think it was PI bat

  39. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Philbin trying to settle Landry down instead of congratulating him for being tough and showing emotion. Philbin should have been screaming emotionally at a blown first and goal.

  40. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    That was horrible by Tannehill
    So many missed opportunities

    Yes bad play calls too

  41. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

    Holy Cow!

  42. bat's avatar bat says:

Naples ..Revis’ whole rep has been made on being allowed illegal contact and holding …A fraud plain and simple.

  43. bat's avatar bat says:

Piggy …It was if Brady or Manning threw it …

  44. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

suh best tackle was on shelby trying to get up

  45. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

NE would have gotten the Revis PI call except for when he played for them.

  46. New Age's avatar New Age says:

The incompetence has to be readily evident for Ross, right?

  47. bat's avatar bat says:

First and goal and we waste two plays on passes that don’t go beyond the LOS ..Lazor is a fuckin’ dimwit

  48. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

that isnt a fumble he was down

  49. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

So they will be looking at Suh kicking Fitz in head on play where he chased him outta bounds

  50. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

lol they got another sack. yippie

  51. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    That’s a sack lol

  52. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

OK, so we didn’t get blown out, at least as far as the score is concerned. Is that enough for everyone to keep their jobs? Oh HELL NO! I want the entire staff packing up their shit. Time to end this facade of an NFL “coaching staff”

  53. bat's avatar bat says:

If Suh manages to get suspended, he will have finally had an impact on the team.

  54. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    toba

i saw that earlier. but there is no way the league will suspend suh, that may give someone on the fins a chance to actually do something

  55. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    LOL Bat

  56. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    mike

and it is the bye week, so this is the time to do it

  57. bat's avatar bat says:

Mike … I’ll expect “Ask Mike” to have a much more bitter and cynical tone this week. I feel you’ve been holding back …lol

  58. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

ok here comes the obligatory int at desperate time. they only question is if it will be a pick 6

  59. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Pretty sure will not be any penalties for it

  60. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

At least the Jets are getting beat up physically

If our entire staff isn’t sent packing, it will be as scathing as you can imagine.

  72. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

see even simple things Lazor misses. Such as Stills just got his ankles snaptackled. That has to hurt, but Lazor then calls his number on a speed route just seconds later, but he can’t run fast yet.

  73. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

i guess the game is over per mr walker

  74. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Do we punt on 4th down? lol

  75. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

also why weren’t people yelling to stills to get out of bounds before the good play?

  76. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

If philbin is not fired during the bye I’m done with this team

  77. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

dammit tanny you should know by now how to throw off your back foot. why after 4 years would you think you would get blocking

  78. bat's avatar bat says:

Hopefully Ross does it right this time and fumigates this sad excuse for a team from top to bottom. Let the carnage begin and may it be brutal and unyielding.

yeah but that too is tannys fault.

  81. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

That sequence was as bad as the entire game was. The oline is woeful

  82. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Todd Bowles has looked smug all day. He is shoving it up the Dolphins organization collective asses.

  83. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    bat,

he can fumigate the coaching staff and 53 players and still two sundays from now it will be a better team

  84. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Just get to me the draft that is all I have to look forward to

  85. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

  87. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

They kept the interest up in the 2nd half. Least they have something inside.

  88. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Naples

You’re absolutely right about the 2nd pass to Stills. How Lazor expected him to beat his man on a fly route after getting drilled in the knees makes no sense.

    • twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

I’m guessing he had already set a sequence of plays – first one draw DB in, second go long on db. Problem is, it was poorly planned/executed.

  89. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    ‘The oline is woeful’

no they arent. josh freeman would look great behind this oline. it is just tanny that makes them look bad.

  90. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Does Philbin have a job when he gets on the flight ?

  91. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    What up Momma?

  92. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I know the OL was bad
    and the D was bad

I’m confident the coaches are out of here soon at the end of the day

But Tanny with all those opportunties to get us within 1 score and missing is just not top tier quality QB

A lot of passes way off the mark
    I mean way off

    Two interceptions

I just don;t think this is our guy

If I’m a new coach I may draft a QB very early in 2016

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s lost his confidence and Lazor doesn’t help him. We make it easy for defenses. And Omar told us we should fear Lazor leaving for a HC job. LOL

  93. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh well. The Jets basically said steal this game from us and we said what are you kidding, we don’t do stuff like that. Bad situation. I have to find something else to do and I think I know what it is.

  94. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

‘They kept the interest up in the 2nd half. Least they have something inside.’

wow, just wow. that is simply amazing. the shit the fucking bed the first half……again. so bad the jets didnt even have to do anything the second half but you think the fins showed something. sorry you are way off there.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

ffr — why is it so amazing? Just stating a fact. They didn’t give up and the game was still at least a game till they couldn’t hit any of those many chances in the redzone.

      What has you so beffudled?

  95. New Age's avatar New Age says:

“Well…we did win the fourth quarter ” will be one of Bozooka Joe’s answers in the after game interview. If they even bother since he’s dead man walking.

  96. joemommad's avatar joemommad says:

Pats 3-0, Bills soon-to-be 3-1, Jets 3-1, Fins 1-3 and 0-2 in division, season is over, I am not sure I have ever seen a QB with worse touch than Tanny. So sick of this. 15 freaking years. Every time Ross had a chance to blow it up, he half-assed it. This O line SUCKS and you had a pro bowl O Lineman in Mathis there for the taking. Our G’s suck and we obviously miss Albert. How do you not fix our O line in 4 years, after it sucked so bad under Sparano no less! D is underperforming, and bottom 3 in run D. We all said fire Joe last year, or at least anyone with common sense who watched the games, freaking Ross. SELL the damned team!

  97. bat's avatar bat says:

“They kept the interest up in the 2nd half. Least they have something inside.”

Stanger …So you got the last of the Kool Aid …Talk about grasping for straws …lol

  98. Randy's avatar Randy says:

The OL gave him enough time for him to miss about half a dozen TD throws. The QB has to make plays when they are there. Tannehill just can’t make throws when he needs to….protection or no protection.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      He misses SO MANY throws

the lack of protection becomes academic if he hits a cople of those passes

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

They also got him hit a ton. Be fair. Our team overall is not good. That’s gonna fall on coaching for sure but some guys don’t seem to playing with any passion. Landry almost seems to be the only spark. This is depressing.

  99. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

The mindless coaching and 4 years of sacks might have ruined Tannehill for real now. I don’t see that same steely glint he had. He looks rattled, hopeless, unsure of everything.

  100. joemommad's avatar joemommad says:

Hey Mikey! Just pissed off and disgusted as the rest of you are.
