Game Wrap Up: Jests @ Dolphins (London)

PrawnSuicide

Wait Prawny Wait!!! Don’t do it….we need a wrap up…

Thankfully I convinced this shellfish to hold off his NFL depression to give us a wrap up…

Oh…what’s that about the game?   Um…yeah probably not going to make anyone feel better to review it…but…

SuhAssumingPosition

In this pic, Prawny points out to us that the defense immediately assumed the position once again

The Dolphins gave up 207 yards on the ground in the game.  166 of those years were a career high by Chris Ivory, who plowed through defenders like Suh all game for extra yardage.  I don’t know how many yards after contact Ivory had….probably a ton.

For the 4th time this season (every game) the opposing team went up early in the 1st quarter.  The Dolphins have been down at least 2 scores from the start of the game in every game this season.

WakeLostinSun

And it’s not just the run defense.  There is no pressure on the QB consistently.  Some people question whether Wake even suited up…but he did…he just got lost in the sun

The Dolphins did not have a sack on Sunday.  They have 1 sack this year.

PrawnstabsMarshal

The Dolphins could not stop Brandon Marshall either.  Marshall had 128 yards on 7 catches.  He caught a 58 yard pass early which caused most of us to pound our head into the wall.

The Little Prawn has a proposed solution which he demonstrates in this pic.

I HATE YOU BRANDON MARSHALL!!!

Stillsshowsup

Moving on to the offense, it wasn’t good either.  Just 226 yards total offense.  The Dolphins avoided any major turnovers in the first half of the game but they didn’t move the ball at all.

The Dolphins game plan is basically to make sure they get short yards on one of the two first downs, zero yardage on another of the first two downs, then throw beneath the first down marker and hope a receiver breaks a tackle.  Sometimes it works…but its hard to string together a touchdown drive when this is the plan.  As Dan Fouts pointed out all game – you are asking your receivers to do a lot!

The good news is that we finally used Kenny Stills.  Who caught five passes for 81 yards and a touchdown.  Stills really can’t be blamed for any of the offensive woes this season.  The team is just not using him.  When they finally targeted him on Sunday it paid off.

PrawnStonebruner

And this guy caught another Touchdown!  That’s 2 for Stoneburner.  Prawny loves his name!

LandryPassion

One guy that always plays hard is Jarvis Landry.  Look at him leap says Prawny!  Landry lead the team in special teams yardage, was 2nd in receiving yards and lead the team in rushing yards.

The fact that Landry lead the team in rushing yards is not a good thing.  The fact that he did it on 2 carries is even worse.  The fact that Miller had only 7 carries is enough to drive any Dolfan crazy.  The running game has been horrible this year.  The Dolphins take themselves out of games early but even in the redzone late in the 4th quarter, they refuse to run the ball.

TannyinLondon

Speaking of letdowns in the 4th quarter…for a little while it seemed like the Jests and the officials were opening the door for the Dolphins to steal a game where they were thoroughly dominated.  But Tannehill’s touch in the redzone was as awkward as a priest in a playground.  It wasn’t happening.

Tanny was sacked three times and under a lot of pressure all game.  He finished completing 19 passes on 44 attempts for 198 yards.  He had two touchdowns and two interceptions.  Those two interceptions were in the redzone.

Melancholyjoe

It was enough to make Philbin’s blood boil…well maybe not.

WokeupforBS

I feel the same way Coach!  The good news is we can all sleep in next week.

BeachedDolphins 1-3

I guess we will see what happens this week…

i agree with this. philbin seems like a good guy but horrible coach. i can respect him fighting for his coach.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

the job is really not about being a good person or not

I never assume that some one is not a good person bc they didn’t perform well

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well Jim Schwartz is a bit of a jerk and wasn’t a good HC yet there are people here calling for him to be out HC.

  3. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

My guess is the new DC will be LBs coach Mark Duffner, he has a lot of coaching experience and was a HC in college.

At least we have a bye week to get some of the new coaching in place and maybe somehow they can salvage the season.

  4. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I can respect Philbin the person and still hate Philbin the coach. Ecstatic to see him gone but I wish him well.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Right where I come from. Seems like a guy who you would want as the godfather of your kid. Wouldn’t want Vince Lombardi to be that……but I would like him as my HC.

  5. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    piggy,

i will take it one step further. i dont care if he is a jack ass dick head just as long as he gets the team to win. i think ryan fits the JADH mode but if he got the fins job and got them to be a winner then i would like he was coaching the fins.

regarding philbin, i was just making a comment on someone else’s tweet.

  6. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think Lazor stays because it’s difficult to change philosophies in-season especially for the QB. Now changing some stuff up is not out of the question.

  7. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

So when Coyle follows Bazooka Joe out the door, who will be DC?
I’m thinking Mark Duffner, but Lou Anarumo may be a good candidate too.

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Try, changing a HC and other coaches is never a good thing in-season and means a lot of things aren’t going well so I’m not surprised an interim coach rarely or almost never has had a playoff season.

  9. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

INTERESTING to hear the NFL NETWORK CREW discussing how Ross has botched firings and hirings in the past. ONE of them said this franchise really needs to bring in an outside consultant b/c Ross has shown he’s in over his head on issues like this.
    ————
PER Brian Billick of NFL Network. The last time an interim coach got his team to the playoffs was 1951.

  10. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

the chances of making the playoffs with a interim coach are pretty much slim to none. hasnt been done in over 50 years.

the chances of making the playoffs with philbin were none, it had never been done.

i take the slim to none odds

  11. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I still want to know the story on Campbell being the choice. Was Ross walking by him on the way to the bathroom and was like, “Hey Rizzi, I just let Philbin go. Do you think you can step up to the plate and be HC?” And then he was all, “Sure thing Mr. Ross, but I’m Dan Campbell. I coach the TEs. All two of them” and then Ross was like, “Oh Rizzi, now’s not the time for jokes do you want the job or not?”

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think it’s because Campbell is an intense guy and they’ve seen him on the practice field working with the players. Ross probably feels he needs someone to light a fire under this team. There are no big time options.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The arm wrestled for the job and Campbell came up on top

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

        ..including me.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Like Stanger said, it’s more about setting up for the future. This team is not on a playoff run at this time anyway. Getting the team to play better and go from there is the goal.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Tim, you know how this place is- people are all “Philbin is the man” and “We’re gonna ‘Lazor’ in an offense no one can stop” and then.. “They suck!” and “I never wanted them anyway!”.. I’m not a cop, but occasionally I don’t mind conducting traffic on a blog…

  14. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Maybe Campbell will just make Suh the DC since he watches so much film and everything is different now. 😉

  15. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

GD, Lou Anarumo could be an option as well.

  16. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:
  17. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

    Man am I getting old.

First there was — “hey I’m as old as some of the players”
Then there was — “I’m older than anyone playing.”
Now there is — “I’m older than my head coach.”

    Campbell is 39.

  18. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Try, well I supported Philbin and wanted him to get his 4th year but it didn’t work. I haven’t liked Lazor’s system since I first saw it and hoped for the best. I don’t like a lot of shotgun but that’s what we run so no point in pining for something that’s not going to be. I hope Campbell instructs him to find more bread & butter plays and stick with it instead of trying to do too much. A good start would be to commit more to the running game.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I’d just like to see some accountability at this point- from the top down.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That too. I still see poor effort from too many players.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I did too- and I think part of the problem there is they were not being held accountable. Sit a guy when he does not produce, even if the replacment is not as good. People got too comfortable- no one ever seemed to feel their job was on the line, that they can be replaced.

  19. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Well I guess we will find out if it was Joe or the players now!

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Dan Campbell is a rockstar of a coach! Being a HC is a different animal but as a coach who connects and gets it Campbell is a STUD!

  27. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    FFR

We should see it in the intensity of the play!

If the players hated Joe and his systems and were dogging it out of frustration, then it should be easy to see the difference!

If they still can’t tackle or rush the passer? Well then Clean the whole fucking Stadium out and start again with Landry and 50 others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

“If the players hated Joe and his systems and were dogging it out of frustration, then it should be easy to see the difference!”

That’s fucking lame on the players part at this point in the 2015 season. I also don’t feel all of the players played poorly, but a lot of them did, in all phases.

  28. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You could say Campbell is responsible for Clay’s development and he’s the Bills most dominant receiver right now. He’s balling. Campbell started under Sparano in 2010 and intern coach and then has been the TEs coach for the last 5 years so it’s not like he just started coaching yesterday.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

He’ll be a young players coach that the players will hopefully really go to war with/for, especially knowing they have 3/4 of a season left….12 games….that’s plenty of football to turn things around and maybe get into a wildcard hunt.

  29. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

so philbin and coyle are out, i guess the only big question left about the remainder of the season is:

Does brian attend the fest or not?

  30. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    wyoming,

ok but if they still suck and cant tackle, rush the passer, block for tanny and the running game, does that mean firing philbin was wrong and he is a good coach?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

After the Jets game I’m on board that Joe didn’t instill confidence in the team so he had to be fired. But the players still have to take responsibility for their performance too. They’re friggin pros not HS kids.

… Campbell has been given authority to fire Coyle if he chooses… Campbell will be considered for permanent job if team wins a lot.

  35. D's avatar D says:

Tis is my think with the idea of keeping Lazor, i get that you dont want to make those kind of changes, but he wasnt solid enough to promote to HC, so they see he is part of the problem. If he is part of the problem, then why keep him and hinder your new guy.

Worst thing that can happen with replacing Lazor is the team loses offensive cohesion and they look bad, uh hello i think we are already there with Lazor, so you change nothing. Replacing him though lets Campbell do what he thinks is best, and use the talent the way he thinks they should without some other dude fucking things up for him.

Also, if he does make Lazor do it his way, and his way is going to be a change of philosophies, then whats the difference than firing Lazor and promoting another guy to his position. Doesn’t Campbell have an assistant under him, would that be the best pairing for a new HC to have someone that can work with him as they have in the past, come up with good strats and then execute them together? Or worst case scenario, just let Campbell be OC/HC and run that side of the ball.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I find it hard to think they’ll bag both the OC and DC…..too much turmoil. Must be interesting for Lazor though. The guy who used to report to you is all of a sudden your boss. I’ve seen promoted to the same level situations, but never that.

      • D's avatar D says:

I agree its a lot of turmoil, but what do you call what we have with them….

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Just would be different if it was the offseason and not a game two weeks away. Blowing up the whole structure would be crazy.

  36. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Ross probably has shaken Dan Campbell’s hand a couple times.

Ross might have decided that Philbin had to go, but the choice of our new HC is all Tannebaum.

I would have chosen Rizzi, and promoted Campbell and Duffner to OC/DC. I said that before they fired Philbin.

Not so fast. Word is that Joe often turned to Rizzi for advice.

    • D's avatar D says:

Rizzi’s unit is playing inspired football and is the only unit doing so lol. To me it makes the most sense but you know ST isnt the star of the football team unless you suck as bad as we do.

  41. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, it’s really difficult to change the entire staff especially both coordinators. You’re getting a little to ahead of things at this time. They have a week to figure this all out and then prepare for a game.

  42. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I still say it’s a case of mistaken identity.

  43. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

D, now that Campbell is HC, if he fires Coyle which is the more likely of the two coordinators, then if he did also fire Lazor or demote him, I’d go with O’Keefe as OC. He’s done well with the WR’s, is a longtime offensive mind and coach.

Loyalty is a great thing but when you are the head coach your obligation is to the team and not to your friend. You lobby for him if you think he is the best guy to do the job, you don’t lobby for him because he is your guy. You have to make the decision as to what is best for your team not for your friend. Nuff said.

Todd Gurley rushed for 146 yards on 19 carries in the Rams’ 24-22, Week 4 win over the Cardinals.
He added two catches for 15 yards. It looked like it was going to be another long day for Gurley and the Rams’ running game behind a brutal offensive line; Gurley started out with five carries for negative yards, but absolutely went off in the second half, picking up chunk gains of 23 yards, 13 and 52 to seal a victory for St. Louis. He helped bleed the clock for the Rams late in the fourth quarter by picking up first downs and consciously making sure he stayed in bounds at all costs. His open-field speed and vision were on full display in this one. Gurley is going to have up-and-down days behind this group of blockers, but possesses the talent to overcome it at times.

  65. Loved when Campbell said “we’re not going to play conservative. we’re going forward and we’re going thru you”

  66. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Whoa! I think a lot of people liked what they heard from Campbell. Without disrespecting Philbin he touched on that this team didn’t prepare the way he would do it. Maybe that’s why Stoneburner is being productive on his unit out of nowhere. I loved his message, let’s hope he can do it.

He also looks like he could still play. LOL

    Parcells was a good coach & mentor….

fatcells was an overrated useless blow hard. he had good players when he coached the giants and was able for a few years to get some of those players to follow him to other teams. once they retired he was useless. tell me one place he did anything other then with the giants. he was nothing but a fat fucking ego that was over hyped and over paid.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

So now it’s back to personnel over coaching….lol smh

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You’re so off here. The Pats went to the SB and the Jets to the AFC Championship game. He got Dallas out of the doldrums. He’s a HOF coach. You don’t have to like him but you’re way off on his coaching prowess.

  68. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    GDP

You call that fire from Tanny? I call that stuck up rich fat QB bullshit who thinks he’s better than the rookies. It all depends on context, but I’d rather Tannehill come back and burn him with a TD than tell him to enjoy his PS paycheck. Pussy shit I say!

  69. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m with you Try, I also don’t like that one bit.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I agree that is pretty bullshit if that is true but you have to know the full context. Was he being taunted by the scout team players? Is there a history between he and the players involved? I have not read the stories yet. It seems out of character for Tannehill to have done that but if he did it is a bullshit thing to do.

  70. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Campbell said all the right things but truth is he is in a very difficult situation. Likely things get worse before they get better. Campbell is essentially auditioning for future HC jobs. He is an interim guy until Tannebaum can get his guy into the job. This is going to be an ugly year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ll take the wait and see approach over predicting the worse before it even happens. If this team is that talented we should see a change.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

No team really does all that well when changing a coach in the middle of the season. It’s almost like you have to strip things down to rebuild and undo the damage that has been done. I think it was the right thing to do but I am not expecting any miracles out of this change. This is going to be a long painful season.

    • I don’t know man. I think Mike T found his Rex Ryan in Miami.

  71. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Mike & Try….LOL….you guys act like Tanny is the first player to ever talk trash to another player, sheesh.
That defense needs some kinda motivations.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

You act like he doesn’t have a responsibility to be above the childish shit and lead the team from the front, not follow the lowest common denominator.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

..besides the fact that the story claims Tanne was only acting pissy because they were picking off his passes.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

We don’t know the true details and when a team is overly frustrated then things get said…big deal.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Ryan Tannehill has reportedly been frustrated with his play in practice, so Joe Philbin told practice squad players to take it easy on him.

I know when it comes to Tanne, you are quick to come to his defense, so I should not expect that you’d be open to some criticism.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Like I said, it depends on context, but if there was no ongoing taunting from both sides, and he gets picked off, and then tells the rookie PS players to enjoy their paychecks, that doesn’t sound like a team leader to me. It sounds wrong.

i am talking about fatcells. nothing else. so dont go off on thinking i am saying something i am not

    tim,

bs, the guy left every place after the giants just a shade better then when he got there. he is no genius. it is just my opinion but i find him vastly overrated.

  75. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Ok, maybe Campbell’s first move is to cut/bench Tannehill over hurting some guy’s fragile feelings.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

There you go- hyperbole over discussion when it comes to your boy. Have at it. And I could agree with you if he was saying it to Suh or Wake or Grimes… but to the practice squad guys? That’s leadership?

  76. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

so i have this right. most on her bitch tanny shows no emotion, he acts like he doesnt care, but when he steps up and shows emotion he is wrong and should keep his mouth shut. just want to make sure i have it right?

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

There is showing emotion and then there is being a bitch. If he did what is alleged that’s being a little bitch and not showing emotion or showing the wrong emotion. I am as big of a Tannehill supporter on this blog and that rubs me the wrong way.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Nope, not right. I want him to show emotion and leadership, and if a few PS guys are getting the best of him, maybe he should pat them on the back, tell ’em they did a good job, but to be ready next practice, because he’s gonna torch them. That’s showing leadership and emotion.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

FFR, agree to disagree about Parcells. His history speaks for itself as a HC. He’s in the friggin HOF. LOL

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Parcells was a great coach. He may have been a dick but he was a great coach. By the time he got to our FO I think he had checked out somewhat. I think he was more interested in the south FL lifestyle than running the organization. He checked out of his duties as soon as contractually was feasible after a nice pay day.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m just talking about him as a HC. FFR has forgotten his other successes as a HC outside of the Giants.

i just said he was a good coach, he was average at best at the front office stuff

  84. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    mike,

i only pointed it out cause it is a constant with the qb. seems everything on any team is always the qb’s fault, whether it be good or bad.

we have no idea what happened, if the practice team player was in tannys face or if it was tanny being a dick but since he is the qb lets just blame him.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Aaron Wilson of NFP reports that on Saturday, Tannehill said “Enjoy your practice squad paycheck, enjoy your practice squad trophy” to practice squad players after they forced several turnovers. Frustrations have reportedly been boiling over for Tannehill over the past few weeks as he’s thrown interceptions in practice.

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

All true FFR – I don’t think I’m a Tanne-Hater, I’m pretty objective with him, at least I think I am. I just didn’t like the vibe of that story.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Maybe Lauren wasn’t giving him any nookie until they won again. Hell, I’d let my frustrations boil over too. 😀

  86. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Why does anyone care about Parcells right now anyway? Because Campbell learned a lot from him and respects him? You’ll find hundreds of NFL players, execs, coaches etc. who respect Parcells.

Dan Campbell is his own man and he touched on everything I’ve been seeing with this team – losing physical battles and not contesting enough plays. The last thing I wanted to hear is we’ll stay the course and keep pushing with what we’ve been doing. He’s more intense than Philbin and I think this team needs that now because they look anything but intense.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Everyone is in pick everything apart mode right now…it’s to be expected after a 1-3 totally embarrassing start.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Of course. But there is only so much you can do in-season. Like I said before, Campbell has a different view on practice habits than Philbin did and the lack of physicality part of it showed up in every game thus far. That’s what has to change fast. We get pushed around on both sides of the ball too often.

  87. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Ken I disagree with you on Parcells, Ross should have paid him what he owed him on the spot and resigned him to another contract, instead he left him working for free for a year with promises never having any intention of resigning him, I don’t blame Parcells for moving on and wondered why it took so long. he should have quit and got his contract paid in full the day Ross took ownership.

Parcells was a run first coach that wanted to control the clock, exactly what we need right now.

it will be interesting to see if this new coach pays more interest in a running offense than this dink and dunk crap.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

In NE he threw the ball more than anyone as well. People forget that and think he’s 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Not true. His philosophy was pass to score and run to win.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i disagree tim bill had a run control offense, first with otis anderson then with curtis martin in NE and NY

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I never said it was a “big deal”. I asked if anyone heard about it. the qb of a team has a responsibility to lead by example. Don’t piss on the little guys. You wanna mock someone, mock an equal, not the guy way down the chain. But some people get carte blanche, apparently. Not worth it. that is my fault. i was just making a sarcastic smart ass comment about him saying he likes parcell. i was just king of playing around and it got out of hand. sorry about that. actually him learning and taking a lot from parcells the head coach is a great thing.

once again sorry i brought it up

  92. D's avatar D says:

Tanne can go eat a dick with an attitude like that. He has been playing like shit The PS guy probably made that really apparent and instead of bucking up he mouths off a very demeaning insult at them. They should have said to him, “Well looks like you have already started enjoying your totally undeserved one.” Learn to read a defense.

    • D's avatar D says:

Also i say, promote the PS guy he’s probably better than McCain. Im guessing it was Dowling. By end of the year id like to see Dowling and Lippett on the field. We should cut Grimes and Wake at the end of the year, open some cap room for the new coach, Vernon can be let to walk as well and we can draft Nkemdiche in the first round, without the trade up i assumed we would have to previous to our epic let down.

  93. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

i dont know about you guys, but if boulder makes a post from europe and philbin gets fired i am thinking that if he moved to moscow the dolphins may never lose again. if he was any kind of fan he would make that commitment

If Campbell can light fire under these guys and get us to 8 wins he should get a contract.

I’m very disappointed in both Suh and tanny’s leadership. It seems like they took the money and ran. They need to show they’re worth the money we gave them the rest of this year.
