SUNDAY WRAP UP

No Dolphins on Sunday, they are still licking their wounds from last Thursday Night.

But the rest of the NFL was in action.

Cheifs

Want another London Game?  The NFL thinks you do.  Sunday you were able to watch football from 9:30 AM until Midnight without crying about the Dolphins.  Lions fans cried before you did anything on Sunday.  The Chiefs beat the Lions convincingly to start the day in London.

Yexans

The last two victims of the Dolphins also played each other on Sunday.  The Texans beat up on the Titans.  DeAndre Hopkins continues to have an impressive season.

SDiggs

Another young WR to keep you eye on is Stefon Diggs who helped the Vikings beat the Bears.  The Bears just keep losing.

Saints

One of the craziest games of the day was between the Saints and Giants.  And by crazy I mean no defense played.  It was the highest scoring game of the NFL season.

Drew Brees tied the NFL record with 7 TD passes.  Eli Manning threw 6 TDs.  The secondaries of each team had a group[ cry together after the game.

SSmith

Speaking of making secondaries cry – We may have seen the last of Steve Smith on Sunday.  He tore his achilles tendon in the Chargers game.  The Ravens beat the Charges – who continue to struggle but they lost an important player.

Bengals

The Bengals stayed undefeated.  They beat up Ben Rothlisberger all day and won the game on on a Dalton to Green TD pass.

Teams like the Bengals have the ’72 Dolphins a little worried.

RaidersCarr

Want some good AFC East News.  The Raiders beat the Jests!  Derek Carr threw 4 TDs before the 3rd quarter was over.  The Jests secondary continues to struggle.

Well, last night was the end to one of the shittiest weeks in sports history for me. The Mets went down 0-2, then the Dolphins got blown out by the hated Pats on Thursday. After being unable to generate much offense outside of Game 3, the Mets the collapsed in successive games, blowing a late lead in both and lost the WS. Let’s hope for a resurgence on the Dolphins this week in Buffalo. If we lose that game, just have them dredge the Hudson for my body.

the Mets had a great season, who would have thought a team could pull so many come from behind victories as the Royals. It’s very improbable and I know I have never seen it before.

No matter, were winning this one anyway!

The undefeateds, at least in the AFC, stayed unbeaten. With no shot of a wild card coming from the AFC South the race for 2 spots is among 3 divisions. I say 10 wins easily gets one without need for any tie breakers and the next will go to a 9 win team who may or may not need tie breakers.
Look at the losses pile up – San Diego, Pitt, Stej all lost yesterday. Buff has 4 losses like us, Balt is out. KC just won 2 in a row and the Raiders are looking pretty good right now but there is a long way to go. Thinking we are out of it now is just quitting.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m not sure any of those teams are in better shape than us

basically Clev, Balt, Chargers, and the AFC south are out of the wildcard hunt

and Denv, Cheats and Bengals have virtually clinched their divisions

The Mets bats hurt them and the questionable defense was exposed. The Royals are relentless and a team like that will take advantage of those things. They were the better team.

Brian, I agree though, it was setup to be a great sports week and it ended up really sucking.

  11. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Absolutely Pig. Season ends today and 4-3 gets you a WC. We are 3-4 with nine games left.

  13. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Well after yesterday it seems like the wild card is still open for us. I believe the winner of bills-phins will still have a shot but the loser is probably out of the playoffs picture. I hope the phins treat this game as a MUST win.

  14. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

BTW denver looks like the team that’ll give the pats a run for their money. They’ll play them in Denver this year. Winner of that game could get home field throughout the playoffs.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I was shocked at how Denver handled GB last nite. That defense is championship caliber right now.
Held Rodgers to 77 yds passing and a 69 QBR. He was harassed all game long. Now we know what Tanny feels like.

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Denver’s defense is legit this year. Both cinci and the pats have to play in denver this year. Those will be some big games.

  15. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Beat Buffalo, my God, we got to start winning division games or else you don’t deserve the playoffs.
Going 3-3 in our division is almost a necessity…2-4 looks fugly. But it starts with the Jills….Go Phins, win Dan a permanent job as HC!

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

this is form hyde. Doesn’t look good.

“In the past nine games against AFC East teams dating to the start of last season, the Dolphins are 2-7, and it’s no secret why. They’ve averaged a measly 15.5 points those games. Tannehill has thrown for 11 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 72.2 quarterback rating in them.”

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Yeah, this team was supposed to be built to beat the Pats & contend for divisions. Tall order for any GM it seems.

  16. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Great ride from the Mets. They obviously were NOT the better team The Royals had too many things going for them, a much deeper lineup, better defense, much better base running, a much deeper bullpen, and starting pitching that wasn’t quite as good as the Mets, but they pitched well enough to keep them in the game. The Mets didn’t have their big guns hitting, and that’s how they won all year long. Murphy, Duda and Cespedes cooled off at the wrong time.

Still, this was a GREAT season, and far exceeded what I thought they could be. I think we need to add some team speed into that lineup. I’d love to have a legit leadoff batter with a high OBP, and real base stealing speed. Then Granderson could bat 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th. It’s one of the things we lacked, was any kind of speed on the base paths. We also need to be better defensively. I never thought I’d say this, but now I don’t think there’s any shot the Mets sign Cespedes, not because some team will outbid them, because I think the Mets will have ZERO interest in signing him.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed, and there is no way we’re signing Cespedes. Alderson didn’t want him in the first place but the owner stepped in.

Murphy also showed his issues in the field and once he cooled off at the plate there was nothing else he could hang his hat on.

    —————-
When you are a bit behind and one of the many teams in the hunt, for sure a game against one of the others is a big one. Still a lot of football to play though no matter what happens on Sunday. And hey — we are probably out already…..way it works.

  19. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

We don’t get this far without Murphy, but he’s going to get a good offer from a team that can get by with his lack of defense. I think we need to be much better up the middle. If we could have Murphy play a Uribe or Kelly Johnson type role, that would be OK, but he’s going to get too much $$$ for that to work here.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I agree, my friend and I said this the other night. We probably don’t go on the division run without Cespedes. We don’t win the NL Pennant without Murphy. But you could argue we lost the WS because of both of them.

The Mets don’t view Murphy at 2B to begin with. His best position is 3B but Wright plays there. We need to add some speed and defense up the middle. d’Arnaud is not a good defensive catcher.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I had no idea d’Arnaud was so bad behind the plate. It didn’t seem to be a problem during the season. Our pitchers also need to work on their pick off moves, and changing their delivery to the plate. It seemed like most times d’Arnaud didn’t even have a chance, but his throws were pathetic.

Congrats on the WS run. Silver lining is with that pitching staff and a team budget big enough to keep them around you guys should be contending for a long time to come.

30 years and my favorite teams championship drought finally comes to an end. The Royals were so bad for so long I almost feel like a bandwagon fan, but I’ll take it. It’s Miami’s turn now. Well, after the Utes make their improbable run to the playoffs and win it, of course.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Nice run by the Royals this year. The handled the AL like it was nothing leading up their strong WS showing as well.
Ya had to feel good for Volquez who was pitching with a heavy heart.

  22. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike E, the young pitchers also need to learn how to throw waste pitches at 0-2 and 1-2. How many times did they allow hits on those counts? They did it in the other series too.

  23. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Well that sucks. Did miller injure himself when he tripped on his shoe laces in the back field against the pats?

    Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
RB Lamar Miller is also not practicing.

  24. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

drg, congrats! The Royals were the better team and they earned it.

I agree the Mets young starters should have us in the playoffs for the next few years.

  25. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Dolphins rookie WR DeVante Parker (foot) is not practicing Monday.
Parker suffered the injury against the Patriots last Thursday. Coach Dan Campbell said Parker is “fine,” but the missed practice tells another story. Parker is dealing with an injury to the same foot he had surgically repaired in June, but he says it is a “tissue issue.” The Miami Herald’s Adam Beasley labeled the injury a toe problem. We should know more later in the week.

This kid has got to get on the field and give us that red zone and big play threat that he was supposed to, or else it’s a waste of a 1st round pick @ #16. Maybe we should’ve gone LB or OL in round 1.

Ajayi will be back Sunday, so we need both of these rookies to help make a run and string some wins together.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You don’t draft in the 1st rd for just that year.

    • D's avatar D says:

Dont go into panic mode with Parker, he’s fine and he is someone we will make good use of in coming years. I dont think we should be second guessing that pick. There were no LB’ers we could have taken there that would have been able to provide better options. None of the top LB’s are making a real name for themselves on their respective teams. None of the OL have been overly impressive either.

  26. D's avatar D says:

Im hearing the Browns are practically offering a fire sale. Joe Thomas, Mack, Kruger, Mingo, pretty much most on their team are up for consideration at this point.

Stephone Anthony is a LB that I really liked and he’s contributing well.
I get that Parker is a guy that ‘could’ pay dividends in years to come. But Matthews emerging kinda made him a luxury pick.
I fault Philbin for not playing Matthews more, so Hickey and staff would know more what they had going into the draft.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We didn’t know what Matthews was going to do though when we drafted. He’s also a UFA next year, then Stills the following year, then Landry the following year and we’re not going to re-sign all of them.

  35. D's avatar D says:

Royals actually in same boat as the Mets as far as how long its been since they got a WS. Not to rub salt on wouldnts but im kind of happy for them, even though i was kinda pulling for the Mets (i generally pull for NL teams over AL teams if my team isnt in it). Royals last time winning it was 85, ya’lls was 86, and both teams were loaded with some great plays so it seemed like a really fitting matchup to me in the WS. Sorry you guys lost but ya have to tip your caps to the Royals and somewhat feel pretty good for them too. Maybe you guys get yours next year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh yeah the Royals were the better and more complete team. The Mets are anything but a complete team. They’re about their young arms, their closer and some power. They need to become more balanced adding some speed and defense.

One thing I’m bummed about is that fuck Moustakas making a big deal out of a high pitch that wasn’t a head hunting pitch got to celebrate a championship. I wish a bird shit in his mouth and he tripped in the dugout and knocked his teeth out so he couldn’t celebrate. LOL

  36. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Moore is on trade block? I wonder.

  37. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tim, I get that and know how the rookie contracts go etc. But we had glaring holes @ LB & OL also.
With that said, you can’t fix everything in 1 off season, but if you do spend a 1st & 3rd round pick on a WR, they better be on the field contributing more snaps than they have so far. They should be helping make up for those deficiencies @ LB & OL with their play making abilities.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Reply

True, but when you invest 2 of your top 3 picks on WR’s then it kinda leaves a hole somewhere.
But I understand the need at the time having let Wallace & Hartline go and the need for more offensive production, figuring that Suh & Co. could hold down the fort on Defense.

Well, neither has really paid off too well ‘Yet’. So we’ll see if these guys can come together now under Campbell as the season rolls along with a slew of 9 games to go.

  48. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Wade Phillips is a long time stud DC, and he’s got a bevy of talent there this time.
But I like how they constantly harassed Rodgers & took away the short crossing routes.
Those are two main areas’ we need to improve upon.

So did any of you guys catch any of that Bob Ross marathon on twitch?

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Is he part of the ambiguously gay duo or just a twitch hitter?

    • D's avatar D says:

Look i know you have fond memories of him when it was just you, he and dirt, in your neighborhood, long before rock or water moved there. To the rest of us, he is just this super high old dude who probably owned a van and prowled playgrounds in between his afternoons of “happy accidents” watching the kids on sesame street.

      • D's avatar D says:

J/K, except the high part. Dude was so stoned and likely trippin on something when he recorded those series.

Here are some quotes of his:
“No pressure. Just relax and watch it happen.”…. said right after he handed the children one of his “special” candies.

“Make love to the canvas.”…..I dont suggest any of his “drip style” pieces…..uhhh yeah….

        “I like to beat the brush.”….. …………………..

        Wait maybe i wasnt kidding…..lol

Bob Ross was a cool guy . . . Do we have to disparage everyone on here to be cool? 😦

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Ahhh, I’ve seen him before. Seems cool. Didn’t SNL do some spoofs on him?

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yeah, I’m sure there a lot of parodies, because it’s easy. He’s a character. He was a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, and I think this persona was created because as he said, he screamed at people his entire career in the Air Force, so he never wanted to scream again. I guess he really meant it.

      • D's avatar D says:

yeah, they had some Bob Ross skits

  68. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I find him very calming, and after last night’s Mets game, I need it. 🙂

  69. D's avatar D says:

Seriously i did like Bob Ross, when i was really young i use to watch him on re-runs and i painted when i was younger mostly because i always liked the things he was able to create. I eventually found pastorals very boring, but when i first started out painting most mine wee like the ones he did on his show.

here’s something from the Pats game.
24 times they went to their left outside the numbers.
12 times they went to their left from numbers to hash mark.
16 times they went between the tackles running or short passes past LOS.
    ——
4 times from the right hash to numbers
3 times they went outside the numbers on right side
    ——
They saw something to exploit on left side plus they had their 2 most experience OL on that side.
13 under center snaps and 49 shotgun snaps for our Offense
lamar miller carries and yardage 8,0,0,3,0,-1,4,2,-2
3 runs for LM from shotgun

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

they basically cut the field in half since they knew they didn’t have the muscle on the Oline to compete.Brady lined up in shotgun 2 yards deeper than usual self also.

You must be pretty fast then.

lol, nope. that is my point. if he trips and falls and falls and trips and falls and basically half dies, then i have a chance. kind of like every afc team needs to do for the fins to get into the playoffs.

  81. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ve watched Bob Ross, he did some cool paintings using simple techniques if you have any artistic ability. I was into drawing and painting when I was a kid. I’d say I was maybe a C+/B- type artist. Some kids I went to school with were outstanding so that’s where I came up with my grade. I had good vision but my technique was average. I’m better with computer graphics.

  82. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Fuckin Greenbag (Greenie) wants the NCAA to change the outcome of the UMs game. I saw one illegal block, right at the end well behind the play, that’s never called, the other 2 were on the side. I didn’t think the guys knee was down either, it’s a judgement call at best.

  83. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    steve,

that is just more the media trying to make themselves noticed. how many horrible calls have been missed and no one ever called for a reversal like they have the UM game. i thought the guys knee was down, but so what. calls are always missed. then end of the seattle game for instance.

but more important in the UM game, if the refs had not blown several calls against UM in the final drive it would never have come to that play. UM had an int that was overturned which i still dont know how and on dukes final td he never crossed the line. that crew wasnt suspended for one play, they were for a overall horrible game. but just showing the one play, is better ratings for the media, i mean you cant expect them to report the facts.

  84. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Thanks Steve – I’m happy with my team, they gave us fans a great year, and really exceeded everyone’s expectations. It was pretty exciting. Now they see some flaws in the team that they can hopefully get corrected to make another few runs in the next few years while we have this dominant starting pitching staff.

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

Bob Ross wasn’t a great artist, I just enjoyed his show, what he did, and I do love his mellow voice and persona. I liked his technique too, even if artistically, it wasn’t impressive.

  87. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike E, what do you think of Dilson Herrera at 2B moving forward? I’m not sure about his bat but he seemed to look the part at 2B. With our young pitching, defense is paramount. Play defense and hit HRs.

I think Flores played much better at SS as the season went on and into the playoffs. He still needs work like charging the ball a lit more but that should come with more playing time and confidence.

Making it to the WS should build up confidence in all of the players. They now know they were capable of getting to it.

Have to find another power RH bat to replace Cespedes and another solid reliever. I wonder if Niece would move to that roll as a 6th-7th inning guy. With more rest as a BP guy his velocity went up. He also has a good change and curve ball. Could be a guy to get lefties out too. Or do you think he’ll asked to be traded so he can start? He could actually be our #5 until we see where Wheeler is at later in the season. Colon likely won’t be back.

  88. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

so basically the fins are so bad this blog talks about

The Broncos traded sixth-round picks in 2016 and 2017 to the San Francisco 49ers for tight end Vernon Davis. The Broncos also get back a 2016 seventh-round pick. Elway tweeted the news of the trade; ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the terms.
