Q – What are the chances that we have a new offense for our players next year. Do you think they will cut Wake during the FA period to save 9 million as reported?

It’s still too early in the season to say that, because the team can catch fire offensively, and that would almost guarantee that Bill Lazor returns. I don’t think that’s likely, and therefore, I’d have to say yes, we’ll be starting over with a new offensive system. Most of us are fed up with Lazor’s system, but it’s not our decision. It’s obvious it took outsider(s) (Al Saunders) (Dan Campbell) to make Lazor add more plays under center, and add the I-formation with a FB. I personally think you can’t be an all-finesse offense, even though it’s passing league. Almost every playoff team has a solid run game, and the Seattle Seahawks relied heavily on the run game with Marshawn Lynch, and almost won consecutive SB’s. I think it’s best to have some balance in the offense, and it seems like if it were up to Lazor, he’d be a 80/20 pass/run offense.

I think it’s an excellent question regarding Cam Wake. As much talent as Cam Wake has, and as much desire that he has, he disappeared during those stretches when we needed just 1 win at the end of the season to make the playoffs. He didn’t do it once, he did it two consecutive years in a row. I think it’s also likely he’ll never be the same player, and we all know that Cam Wake needs to win with explosive quickness, and he’s not going to have that after the achilles injury. If he wants to stay here, it would have to be at a much lower salary, and a backup role. I think we will have to cut him, and then if he wants to stay here, re-sign him to a lower contract. If he’s not amenable to that, he will have played his last game in a Dolphins uniform last week.

Q – Mike

Kenny Stills has 13 catches for 205 yards this season.  Most of those catches are coming late in games.

Really most of that yardage is vs the jests and patriots when we are trailing by a large margin.

Do you think the entire offense would work more efficiently if they worked in Stills with some deeper plays early in the 1st half?

Oinks

Pigsgerald

It’s still relatively early in the season, but it seems like a major miscalculation by us giving up a 3rd RD pick for Stills. I know Rishard Matthews is playing well, but we had Jarvis Landry already, and we drafted “Bad Foot” with our #14 pick in the 1st RD. Did we really make en effort to include Stills in the offense, or is it Stills who didn’t pick it up? Either way, you don’t throw 3rd RD picks around like they’re nothing. Just a few names who were available in RD 3 at or after our pick, LB Jordan Hicks, DT Carl Davis (we could have gone O-line in the 2nd, and taken a project DT in Davis in the 3rd), LB Paul Dawson, and CB Steven Nelson. Anyway, I know that’s not answering your question, I’m just ranting. I’m just really surprised that Stills never really got an opportunity to start. When he did early in the year, it was Stills, Jennings and Landry, and it seemed Landry was the go to guy. Then Jennings got phased out, and Matthews stole the starting spot, and Stills has been afterthought all along. If I had to say why Stills and the deep ball aren’t more of a part of our offense, it’s because of 2 things, they don’t want Tannehill holding the ball too long with our porous pass blocking, and they don’t think throwing the ball deep is Tannehill’s strong point. I don’t think they want to take those chances early, but maybe they should.

Next season, when Rishard Matthews is most likely gone, we’ll probably be forced to figure out a way to get Stills more involved in the offense. By then, hopefully he’ll be starting opposite Bad Foot, and even more hopefully, Bad Foot isn’t Bad Foot anymore.

Q – Do you think we can fill the pass rush void left by Cam Wake, and if so who do you think can do it?

Thank you!

There was a void for much of the season when Cam Wake was in the lineup, but if you’re asking if anyone we have can replace the explosion Cam Wake with 4 sacks, the answer is NO! I hope Chris McCain gets a chance, but despite the fact that many of us became enamored with McCain early last season, it doesn’t appear as if our coaches share that same admiration. He’s a raw kid, we all knew that, but we wanted to see what he can do. He hasn’t been getting much time either at DE or LB, but you would think now would be the time to play him at DE, along with Derrick Shelby. I don’t think we have another guy on the roster that could play LE besides Fede, who’s Vernon’s backup at RE.

I think that was a painful loss for the Dolphins, and even more painful for Cam Wake. I do believe that was his last game as a Miami Dolphin. Maybe due to the dire circumstances of the season, where we need to win almost every game we play, we see McCain get his opportunities, and make the most of the them. It would be sweet to have his replacement on the roster, and not have to try and find it elsewhere. We need OL help, LB and CB help, so now you can just pile on DE help to the long list.

Q — Do you think they activate Ajayi this week?  And if so, whose roster spot will he take?

I do think Ajayi is placed on the 53 man roster, and my guess is he takes Damien Williams spot. I think we try and put Williams on the PS, or maybe they even waive him outright. If they waive Gray, some team will pick him up immediately. Therefore, I think the best way to do it is to carry 3 RB’s, Miller, Gray and Ajayi. I think Ajayi can be better than Jonas Gray, and although he’s not a true power runner, he can be a difficult guy to bring down, and he fights for his yards. Ajayi is also a very good receiver out of the backfield, which makes him a good fit in our offense.

The only issue with putting Williams on the PS or waiving him is, Ajayi would have to be ready to play and step into the offense if needed. He’s been practicing for 2 weeks, so hopefully he’s absorbed enough to be comfortable knowing what what he’s doing out there. It’s usually not all that complicated for RB’s, but he needs to know protections and blocking assignments, and that’s where it can get confusing. Tannehill would appreciate it if he blocks the right guy, and keeps opposing defenders off of him.

Nice job Mike. I think the entire coaching staff is gone on Black Monday, or soon thereafter. Even though we are a mere one game out of a playoff spot, I don’t think that we will make it. We need to go at least 6-3 to make the playoffs IMO, and there has been nothing over the last few years to suggest we are capable of that.

LMAO at BAD FOOT. Nice one Mike.
I also hope Lozar is shown the door at season’s end. We were sold a quick strike, high tempo offence that would wrong foot opponents and we ended up with a play-book full of predictable, cumbersome, slow-developing plays that gets Tanny on his ass most of the time. I don’t want to see RT in a new scheme, but with the exception of 2 games, this one aint working. If it doesn’t start producing on Sunday we have to press the rest button.

  7. jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

I was talking with a NE fan yesterday and we were discussing what make Bellichec so good. He said he doesn’t know but he said its documented. I thought about that yesterday and why couldn’t the other teams research everything the guy has said since his coaching days with the Giants. There must be millions of webpages of him saying stuff then hire a staff of 2-3 dedicated people just to tape every game and watch every play of Pats hundreds of times to figure it out. Then we can implement a passing game similar to theirs. We have the same capable players on offense but they have the scheme perfected. We would prepare our defense better with our offense performing same offense as Pats and we would have a advantage against the Pats since their only advantage is their precision passing attack.

      • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

I don’t think its only Brady. I believe the whole thing is the passing set up scheme with the 3 set bunched together. Tanny is very smart and he has the mental capacity to learn the basics during 1 yr and every year after improving. Lets not forget Brady has been working the same offense for many years.

Sorry, but I need to VENT!! So I went to Winn Dixie to get some stuff. I noticed this lady was staring at me on the same aisle I was on. No biggie. I moved to the next aisle and here she comes again…STARING! So now I’m like, WTH. but finish up my shopping and head to the check out line. Of course this same lady was ahead of me…starts staring again. So I start playing with my phone so I don’t have to look at her. Finally she says “I want to apologize for staring at you, but you look just like my son who just passed away.” I felt really bad after that and gave her my condolences. She says “thank you…but I have a favor to ask. I understand if you don’t want to. Can you give me a hug and say ‘bye mama’ to me?” Inside I was like wth , but me being the softie that I am, I went ahead and did it. She smiles, thanks me, and leaves. The cashier rings up my stuff and the total comes out to $100.87. I knew something wasn’t right, because it should have been like $40.00 or so. The girl tells me that my total was included with my mom’s. I’m like, “What?!!!” she said, “Your mom said you were paying for her last few items along with your things. I told her that the woman was most definitely NOT my mom. She said, well I saw you hug her and heard you call her mama. I flew out of the store looking for this witch, ready to beat her tail, I see her loading up her car! She saw me and jumped into her car, I got to her as she was putting her leg in, and I started pulling her leg… JUST LIKE I’M PULLING YOURS!!! LOL

I don’t have any regrets about trading for Stills FWIW

I don’t think he needs big numbers to be effective – or to start

but his skils allow us to open the filed up a little more – and my point was about using him early to create a little bit more cushion underneath
i think that will help the running game and the short passing game

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I have no idea why he’s not more involved but he definitely adds some explosiveness to the offense – 15.8 YPCA and 4 catches over 20+.

  18. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Nice job Mike. I’m not sure that I think we’ll be starting with new coaches next year. It really depends on the rest of this year.

one thing about Campbell is that he needs to become more of an X’s and O guy to stick. He’s a great motivator but you have to be both to have success in this league. He needs to have more to do with the game plan each week. Not just rely on his coordinators.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

No question Boulder. He really needs to learn all the aspects of being a Head Coach, time management, game management, personnel management etc.

  20. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

My hope is we at least play competitively and win a handful of games so Campbell has a good chance to retain the HC job. He’ll be better next year with experience and an offseason to prepare as a HC. I think his demeanor is good and he will continue to resonate with players. The quick turn around his first two weeks said a lot. Last week was a bummer but it was bad timing on a short week in NE where they rarely lose. Would have liked to see a better performance but a loss like that is good for Campbell to keep him grounded.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

If we keep campbell then I want an experience OC and DC. Maybe whisenhunt OC and Schwartz as DC.

But I really would like to see how the rest of this year plays out before giving the job to campbell. Winning 2 games is one thing. Winning consistently is another.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s why I said win a handful of games. As for coordinators, that would be up to Campbell if he’s retained because coaches hire people they have some connection too. But if he is retained as the HC that means we played pretty well so maybe new coordinators won’t be necessary.

MAJOR changes in Detroit: Lions have fired GM Martin Mayhew and president Tom Lewand, league sources told ESPN.

  31. D's avatar D says:

I think Stills is a matter of the offense working as it should. A receiver like Stills isn’t a feature guy, he’s a guy who burns you when you forget about him. He a guy you set up plays to. Crossing routes to Landry and Parker, couple plays to Cameron and then there is Still on a deep post. He’s likely to be the kind of guy you get a few plays a game where he has slipped behind the defenders and is open for big plays, and not so much a multi-target, 10 yards a pop, receiver.

Problem with him working out that way has been two fold.

First, we havent really be able to get much going on offense outside of the Tenn and Houston games. Because we cant get anything going we cant get into deep setup plays like you would generally like to see with Stills.

Second problem is partially chemistry, and partially Tannehill. I have seen Stills behind defenders on plays and Tanny isnt reading it and hitting him. Tannehill is missing a lot of big play reads to both Still and Cameron. Again, this could be a trust thing, could be that Matthews and Landry both have his trust and there is chemistry there that isnt there with Jennings, Stills, and Cameron, or could be he Tanny is still not analyzing his reads well, maybe both.

Herd, if anyone here is offended that they cant see that here they need to grow up. The intent of this blog isnt to distribute naked pictures with one another. Guys are guys a lot of times and forget their manners, but truthfully your statement about there being plenty of other places to get it is spot on. I dont think we need that here, or at very least always try to keep out of the realm of pornography. Couple people have gotten out of line, but they corrected themselves and i am sure put the blame for being called out, on their actions and not yours. You are a part of this family and if we cant take each others feeling into account we arent doing right by one another. I think every here while occasionally making a comment in regards to not offending you isnt saying your a party pooper, they are saying we need to respect Herd. You do a lot for us and show us respect, and we owe you the same level of respect.

  39. Randy's avatar Randy says:

So now we need new OC/DC? When are you folks gonna realize it’s about the players? We have a QB who can’t make big plays…or even see them. H leaves huge plays on the field every week and can’t get it done on th mine down. We have an OL that can’t stay healthy…and even when they are they aren’t that good. Our LBers are average at best, and I think they’re a liability. Our defensive backfield is just a mess. Grimes and Jones are consistently good but after that it’s a complete crapfest. Our DL is really the only + unit on this team. WRs are okay but nothing special outside of Landry.
    ***
Taken as a whole and compared to their counterparts….I just don’t see a whole lot of above average talent on this team. Average talent w/o a QB that can rise above and steal games for us….means an average record. Fire all the coaches you want…it’s not gonna matter.

    • D's avatar D says:

We do need a new OC, it doesnt change the validity of the rest of your post but id say in addition to needing better play out of some of our top players, we also need a guy who can utilize it better. Lazor is poop, plain and simple.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I’m starting to come around to this way of thinking- i.e., we need players. The people choosing the players probably deserve as much scrutiny as anyone- though I’m still not convinced the coaching staff maximizes the players abilities and mitigates their frailties.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

To be fair to Hickey, he was handed a bad situation on the OL from day one. That alone made us have to use a lot of resources and money in one area in two offseasons. He did draft Landry over a lot of other guys people were high on and he nailed that pick. When you think about it, he’s spent much of the time turning over the roster from bad contracts. This team really isn’t ready for prime time and the offseason hype was just that.

      • D's avatar D says:

I think its a combination problem, we dont utilize what we have well. You can see that from the Tenn and Houston games where we got great production out of our players, specifically the OL, when neither of those DL’s are slouches. We could definately upgrade a couple positions on that OL, but all in all its not a terrible unit.

Tannehill is regressing this year, im not sure why but where he was going end of last year and where he is going this year is opposite ways from one another, and i am beginning to be concerned that some of them that are dearly important to becoming great, are never going to develop. Im not a Tanny hater, i have ALWAYS pulled for him, and thought he was CERTAIN a stud in the making, but this year is changing my mind and making me one of the skeptics.

  40. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    D,
I’m not a fan of how Lazor calls a game, but it’s really not all that different than a lot of other offenses in the NFL. It comes down to execution. Our players are not executing the plays that are being called. I won’t be upset if Lazor goes, but I don’t think his gameplans are all that strange or poor. Good players should be able to make this offense work. The only thing he’s done that truly makes me shake my head is the lack of commitment to the running game. People used to think it was because our OL sucked….but it appears that’s just Lazor.

  41. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’ve been saying for years that Tanny is terrible on the mine down.

  42. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

When it comes to Tannehill, I REALLY want to believe but every week he leaves big plays on the field and more importantly, he never seems to play his best during the high-pressure points of the game, 3rd downs and 4th quarters.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I can’t recall the last time we were in a close game in the 4th and Tanny played lights out, or even just good.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

GB, DEN and MIN last year.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

If memory serves he had a good game UNTIL the 4th quarter against both GB and Denver. As a matter of fact his INT in the 4th against Denver cost us a chance to win the game. I don’t remember how the Minny game played out.

  43. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tanny also played one of the best games he’s ever played and set an all-time record this year. He’s up and down just like the rest of the team. That’s the one thing I feel he needs to improve on is consistency. But the offense also kills themselves. We make a play and there is a penalty. We’re in the game in the big spot and we give up a sack.

The main issue with this team is they don’t play complimentary football often enough.

  44. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Cav,
Shit, the money down…3rd down. I’m gonna have to start reading my own posts. Maybe putting mines on the field is the key to motivating these players. Lol

Lazor has been Tannehill’s best friend becuause this offense lets him complete tons of passes. The problem is, they’re usually 7 yard passes….and rarely lead to big plays. Sure, Tannehill’s stats look good, but does he do the most crucial thing…score? Can he make plays when it matters and win games? Besides, passing stats and records in today’s NFL are meaningless because of how the rules favor offenses and passing. You need to be able to score…and probably 27-30 points a game nowadays to be a true contender unless you have a world class defense.

Kong, we scored two TDs in the 4th against GB and the pick in the DEN game wasn’t the issue, it was our defense couldn’t make a stop. RT kept us in it punch for punch. I’m not saying he was amazing but you asked if he’s ever played well in a close game and in the 4th qtr. He definitely has.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I think if you can remember a specific incident it kinda says it all, no? It’s not like you have lots of choices to recall. But if I am reading this correctly, it’s once a season, if we’re being generous, no?

  52. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The problem with the dink and dunk philosophy is you have to be really good on 3rd down because you’ll need to make a lot of them. You also have to be smart on when to take your shots. Brady is money on 3rd down (best in the league this year) so it works for them. Our offense is horrible on 3rd down.

  53. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

dink and dunk opens up for Brady b/c he is willing to take shots downfield
that opens up the underneath stuff

IMO we have a lack of willingness to take those same shots, until we are trailing

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He rarely throws down the field and when he does he misses a lot. The Pats receivers are reliable, he has the best TE in the game and they get away with a lot of pick plays.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

It also opens for them cause of Brady’s ability to read a bunch of receivers at once and they change the game plan almost week by week to tailor to the opponent/slash their own weaknesses. Don’t think Tanny can do the first and not sure if he is polished enough to adapt to the second.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

All QBs read multiple receivers because they know the play. It seems like we’re acting like RT has trouble completing a pass and this always starts after we lose. Nobody was saying this after 18-19 283 4 TD. LOL

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Some do it better than others though…..and Brady is a master.

  54. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Great Ask Mike….Mike. And yeah Wake is going to be a problem next year. All he’s got left is his pro-ration on the salary bonus. All the guaranteed money is gone. Hope we keep him in the fold, but harsh as it is he’s damaged goods now. He’s cut man walking.

So if he stays…..gonna have to be a redo for a show me contract.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’d be surprised if he’s ready to play when the season starts. I think he’s finished here, as sad as that might be

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I doubt it too…..we aren’t talking about Marino and his achilles……different position. Might depend on where he wants to retire versus how big his ego is on taking a paycut.

  55. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Look, I don’t think Tanne is great- he’s average- but I also don’t think the coaches have done everything they can to maximize his talents.

  56. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

You guys remember a lot more Tanny good 4th quarters than I do. I don’t have time (nor inclination) to look at stats for those games to see if Tanny actually played well in the 4th of those games, so I’ll just concede the point.

I know he has his moments, but I have series doubts he’s the guy. My overall feeling is he doesn’t play well under the spotlight or in big moments.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

“My overall feeling is he doesn’t play well under the spotlight or in big moments.”
The problem is neither does the entire team.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

That’s totally valid. Maybe Tanny can be better if the team gets better. I have my doubts.

  57. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Try, the routes the Pats run are simple for Brady. People say oh he wins with anyone but the reality is they always have very reliable receivers and RBs all the time. So anyone is always good for them. Edelman is very good and Gronk is the best.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think you minimize the Brady effect. Welker, Edelman, Amendola. They are the same guy. They basically just get a quick guy and Brady maximizes his talent. Welker wasn’t great when he was a Dolphin and he wasn’t great when he became a Bronco. He was a n average undersized receiver.

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I agree. Brady makes these guys better not the other way around.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You just made the point. Those receivers are the same and they’re all good. It’s not like they have no talent and Brady makes them good. Belichick went after Welker because they couldn’t cover him.

I don’t think Brady is as impressive as many people think he is. They have a great foundation in NE and the system never changes. He does his job very well, but he doesn’t amaze me with his ability, it’s the system and he’s consistent. They remind me of the great Devils teams, there are personnel changes but the results remain the same because everyone does their job.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

My point is they are average receivers and Brady makes them good/excellent receivers. Brady makes the entire offense better.

  58. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    randy,
while I think tanny can improve, he is what he is, and he’s our QB for the foreseeable future. So the next best thing is to put him in a scheme that he can thrive.

I actually think tanny would do well in the seattle ground and pound type offense. Make the running game the focus of the offense.

  59. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

lol. so you go thru all the trouble to protect women, then they get pissed off you went thru all the trouble to protect them.

  60. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think Tim is totally underselling Brady. He makes EVERYONE look and play better. It seems that you can plug just about anyone in in that offense with him, and they will succeed. Dion Lewis is also killing at as a Patriot, and he couldn’t make the team in CLE and PHI. Gronk is a big reason why the offense works also, but Brady never gets rattled, he knows what the defense is doing. If you hit him a lot, it makes him a little less effective, but he’s never surprised by any formation you put up against him, he knows how to dissect it.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Yeah — much bitter respect for Brady. Mind is still there and a great football one……..the watch is on for his body though. When teams know he can’t throw deep it will be different.

  61. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    tim,

come on, they are talking again about how tanny sucks. tell them that is old news and boring and not to talk about it anymore.

  62. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

‘he wasn’t great when he became a Bronco.’

that isnt entirely true. besides he was with them at the tail end of his career. i am sure most players in their last two years are so have lower stats.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

He went from 118 catches and 1350 yards in 2012 with NE, to 73 and 778 in 2013 with Denver. Right around the same numbers he had when he was with us when he was in his 4th year in the league. He was average with us, he was average with the Broncos. He was stellar with the Pets.

  63. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Guys I don’t want to get into an ongoing debate about Brady but I have always felt the situation he’s in is a huge part of his success and I’m not the only person who feels this way. The receivers Brady has are handpicked for what they do and fit exactly into what they like to do. They like small and quick over tall and fast and I’m surprised more teams don’t do the same. Edelman is not average, he’s extremely quick. The year he was drafted his 3 cone at his pro day was faster than every player at the combine. He was targeted for a reason. There’s a system in place and they keep replacing parts with the right parts.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

you can say that about a lot of QBs including rodgers and manning.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Rodgers is off the charts talented. He can make throws neither Brady or Manning can make. Listen you’re not going to change my mind and I’m not trying to change yours. I’ve always felt this way and I don’t care if people agree or not but I do know quite a few people who feel the same way.

  68. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

Brady always throws those short slants and crossing routes with precision, and always leads the receiver and gives him an opportunity to make YAC. His thows are always on time, he’s got that down better than anyone. They’re not always perfect spirals, or thrown hard, but the timing is impeccable, that’s why he rarely throws INT’s.

  69. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I don’t think comparing Tanne to dilfer is a stretch- I think if dilfer would have played when qb’s by rule are max-protected, he could have done as well as Tanne- though I think dilfer had a better arm. If Tanne were to play when dilfer did. His completion % would be way lower.

  70. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

When Brady had Moss he threw deep, with Gronk and Hernandez, he attacks the seams and the mid-range passes, with the little quick guys, he throws underneath. I think they have adapted to what the league offers. It’s easier to find a Welker or an Edelman than it is to find a Moss so over the years they’ve built their scheme to match. The two constants are Brady and Belicheat and Brady is the one on the field.

I’m tired of seemingly extolling Brady’s ability, lol. Fuck that douchey cheater.

    I’ll talk to ya’ll later.

  75. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

“I see an awful lot of crossing routes, I don’t know how you can say that. Almost every pass is almost a pick play.”

Mike E, those are screens/picks to clear out the underneath guy. That’s not a traditional crossing route.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Call it what you want, but 2 receivers are crossing paths, with intent to lose one of the DB’s. When you say screen, I think of a pass behind the LOS

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

A lot of them are bubble screens.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Agree- there are rubs and pick routes going on every play; wether they are traditional crossing patterns or not, I think the level of accuracy and skill to be successful is the same- maybe even more so.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The plays I’m talking about are not bubble screens, they’re 5-10 past the LOS, and in the middle of the field, which shortens the distance of the throw.
