Q – What are the chances that we have a new offense for our players next year. Do you think they will cut Wake during the FA period to save 9 million as reported?

It’s still too early in the season to say that, because the team can catch fire offensively, and that would almost guarantee that Bill Lazor returns. I don’t think that’s likely, and therefore, I’d have to say yes, we’ll be starting over with a new offensive system. Most of us are fed up with Lazor’s system, but it’s not our decision. It’s obvious it took outsider(s) (Al Saunders) (Dan Campbell) to make Lazor add more plays under center, and add the I-formation with a FB. I personally think you can’t be an all-finesse offense, even though it’s passing league. Almost every playoff team has a solid run game, and the Seattle Seahawks relied heavily on the run game with Marshawn Lynch, and almost won consecutive SB’s. I think it’s best to have some balance in the offense, and it seems like if it were up to Lazor, he’d be a 80/20 pass/run offense.

I think it’s an excellent question regarding Cam Wake. As much talent as Cam Wake has, and as much desire that he has, he disappeared during those stretches when we needed just 1 win at the end of the season to make the playoffs. He didn’t do it once, he did it two consecutive years in a row. I think it’s also likely he’ll never be the same player, and we all know that Cam Wake needs to win with explosive quickness, and he’s not going to have that after the achilles injury. If he wants to stay here, it would have to be at a much lower salary, and a backup role. I think we will have to cut him, and then if he wants to stay here, re-sign him to a lower contract. If he’s not amenable to that, he will have played his last game in a Dolphins uniform last week.

Q – Mike

Kenny Stills has 13 catches for 205 yards this season.  Most of those catches are coming late in games.

Really most of that yardage is vs the jests and patriots when we are trailing by a large margin.

Do you think the entire offense would work more efficiently if they worked in Stills with some deeper plays early in the 1st half?

Oinks

Pigsgerald

It’s still relatively early in the season, but it seems like a major miscalculation by us giving up a 3rd RD pick for Stills. I know Rishard Matthews is playing well, but we had Jarvis Landry already, and we drafted “Bad Foot” with our #14 pick in the 1st RD. Did we really make en effort to include Stills in the offense, or is it Stills who didn’t pick it up? Either way, you don’t throw 3rd RD picks around like they’re nothing. Just a few names who were available in RD 3 at or after our pick, LB Jordan Hicks, DT Carl Davis (we could have gone O-line in the 2nd, and taken a project DT in Davis in the 3rd), LB Paul Dawson, and CB Steven Nelson. Anyway, I know that’s not answering your question, I’m just ranting. I’m just really surprised that Stills never really got an opportunity to start. When he did early in the year, it was Stills, Jennings and Landry, and it seemed Landry was the go to guy. Then Jennings got phased out, and Matthews stole the starting spot, and Stills has been afterthought all along. If I had to say why Stills and the deep ball aren’t more of a part of our offense, it’s because of 2 things, they don’t want Tannehill holding the ball too long with our porous pass blocking, and they don’t think throwing the ball deep is Tannehill’s strong point. I don’t think they want to take those chances early, but maybe they should.

Next season, when Rishard Matthews is most likely gone, we’ll probably be forced to figure out a way to get Stills more involved in the offense. By then, hopefully he’ll be starting opposite Bad Foot, and even more hopefully, Bad Foot isn’t Bad Foot anymore.

Q – Do you think we can fill the pass rush void left by Cam Wake, and if so who do you think can do it?

Thank you!

There was a void for much of the season when Cam Wake was in the lineup, but if you’re asking if anyone we have can replace the explosion Cam Wake with 4 sacks, the answer is NO! I hope Chris McCain gets a chance, but despite the fact that many of us became enamored with McCain early last season, it doesn’t appear as if our coaches share that same admiration. He’s a raw kid, we all knew that, but we wanted to see what he can do. He hasn’t been getting much time either at DE or LB, but you would think now would be the time to play him at DE, along with Derrick Shelby. I don’t think we have another guy on the roster that could play LE besides Fede, who’s Vernon’s backup at RE.

I think that was a painful loss for the Dolphins, and even more painful for Cam Wake. I do believe that was his last game as a Miami Dolphin. Maybe due to the dire circumstances of the season, where we need to win almost every game we play, we see McCain get his opportunities, and make the most of the them. It would be sweet to have his replacement on the roster, and not have to try and find it elsewhere. We need OL help, LB and CB help, so now you can just pile on DE help to the long list.

Q — Do you think they activate Ajayi this week?  And if so, whose roster spot will he take?

I do think Ajayi is placed on the 53 man roster, and my guess is he takes Damien Williams spot. I think we try and put Williams on the PS, or maybe they even waive him outright. If they waive Gray, some team will pick him up immediately. Therefore, I think the best way to do it is to carry 3 RB’s, Miller, Gray and Ajayi. I think Ajayi can be better than Jonas Gray, and although he’s not a true power runner, he can be a difficult guy to bring down, and he fights for his yards. Ajayi is also a very good receiver out of the backfield, which makes him a good fit in our offense.

The only issue with putting Williams on the PS or waiving him is, Ajayi would have to be ready to play and step into the offense if needed. He’s been practicing for 2 weeks, so hopefully he’s absorbed enough to be comfortable knowing what what he’s doing out there. It’s usually not all that complicated for RB’s, but he needs to know protections and blocking assignments, and that’s where it can get confusing. Tannehill would appreciate it if he blocks the right guy, and keeps opposing defenders off of him.

    Howie,

The thing about videos and pictures like those with the goats is you can’t always tell the full story from that one image or clip. For instance I read the real story about those goats on the dam, and discovered all the goats make sure they are well equipped with parachutes and safety lines before going out on the ledge, so it’s not nearly as dangerous as it may seem at first…not to mention this dam was built parallel to the ground, but the cameraman forced a different perspective by rotating the camera 90 degrees.

Clev. is getting screwed on a few calls, the big one was that 4th down offside. Sure he was offside, but he didn’t move and they normally don’t call it unless they’re way over the line. Earlier in that drive Cin had a WR on the end of the line at the line of scrimmage, then the guy in the slot was lineup the same as the RT, should’ve been illegal formation. So if you’re going to call the offside on Clev you have to call the illegal procedure.

We draft Ronnie Brown at #2, he was ok, Jordan at #3, he’s a joke, Ginn at #8 he still hasn’t shed his wimp label, and now Parker. We should just win the SB ever yr, so we don’t have to draft in the top 15.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Our 2nd RD picks arent much better, except for Jarvis Landry. Jamar Taylor, Jon Martin, DTinfinity, Pat White, Philip Merling, John Beck . . . . There’s a lot of wasted picks right there

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Then maybe we should trade all of our future 1st and 2nd round picks for RGIII.

  43. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

LOL Steve – I admit to wanting RG III in that draft. I thought he would be a great QB.

  44. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

This is why we suck yr after yr, and Campbell is no different:
Rookie running back Jay Ajayi is still slowly coming along, and will not be activated this week despite being eligible to return from short-term IR according to the Palm Beach Post’s Andrew Abramson. The Miami Dolphins back was hoping his long wait was over, according to ESPN’s James Walker, but the Dolphins are not ready to make that decision yet. “We have basically another week or over until we have to absolutely make a decision,” Dan Campbell told reporters. “But at this point we can if we would like to activate him this week. He will be eligible to do that. We don’t want to do it right now until we know for sure.”

Lets keep Damien Williams who can’t average 2 yrds a carry, when we have a more talented back ready to go. Why are they so afraid to let the young guys play?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I want to see Ajayi. I guess we can’t blame Philbin for this. I’m not sure who it is that is afraid of letting Ajayi play.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Do you know what Ajayi’s status is both health wise and how he’s practicing? It has nothing to do with him being young and everything to do with whether or not he’s ready to help the team. Landry played right away. Williams played as a rookie last year. Douglas started the season at RG.

I don’t know why the coaches get questioned every time a guy who’s been hurt isn’t playing yet?

  45. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The Miami Dolphins will not activate Jay Ajayi from the short term IR designation. The Dolphins running back broke his ribs earlier in the season and was put on the eligible to return injured reserve list. Ajayi has returned to practice but it’s Dan Campbell’s opinion that he isn’t ready just yet.

Speaking with media on Wednesday, Campbell was quoted as saying that Ajayi is improving but that activation is still down the road.

  46. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

When the team sucks every year, it’s easier to question the people making the decisions, fair or not. That’s how it works.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah but stuff like this is silly because no fans knows Ajayi’s status. So now Campbell is dummy too? None of these guys know football like the fans do. LOL

    • D's avatar D says:

5th round pick (developmental guy), out half the year on injury (no chance to gain experience). You think he should be dropped right with a heavy workload on first game back? 5th round pick by itself woulf me he would just now be getting quality number of snaps, so stands to reason it may not be until closer to the end of the year that he really starts to get going. Maybe he makes the most of his opportunities and moves up faster, but i wouldnt be expecting a Todd Gurley like transformation there.

  47. D's avatar D says:

Ajayai being a 5th round pick wasnt likely to play much this year much less after spending half the season on IR. I do agree with your sentiments on Williams, im not fan of his, though there are a few here that want to murder someone for talking bad about him. I hope to see it slowly progress where Ajayai pretty much eliminates the snaps going to Williams as games go on.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

C’mon D, Ajayi is a 2nd RD talent. Talent or experience isn’t the issue, it was the potential bone on bone in his knee. Saying that he was a 5th RD pick distorts what type of player he is.

  48. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, there were reports that Ajayi struggled a bit in camp but he did show some promise in the PS against 2nd and 3rd teams. But I’m not going to pretend I know his status and blame the coaches for not knowing what they’re doing. That’s getting old when there is no way any fan knows his status more so than the coaches.

  49. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

I remember him fumblng a bit, but DTinfinity also did that. You want to say Ajayi isn’t talented, go right ahead. I don’t think that’s the case.

  50. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

We’re not “fair” here, we just lash out when we don’t get what we want. The sooner you understand that, the easier it will be to digest the constant questioning of the decision makers. I’m being totally serious. it’s precisely what blogging promotes. bitching. lol

  51. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

I also don’t think Ajayi is a “developmental guy”, he’s a play him soon as he’s healthy enough and ready to go, because his career is likely a short one. He’s no more developmental than Melvin Gordon.

  52. jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

Here’s something 4u guys 2 ponder today: What if the team changed its offense to be exactly like NE Pats offense. We have a lot of similar players except for a few pieces. More DC’s from other teams outside division will see NE offense plus Bellicheck will show us how to defend against his own offense.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Our offense isn’t that different when it comes to the spread. They don’t use the option-read like we do because Brady’s not a running threat, but the difference is they’ve been running their offense for like 12 years.

  53. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    jetssuck

If only it were that easy. We know what NE is going to do on offense, we can’t stop it, and either can most teams.

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

NE is the only that runs this type of 3 wr bunched offense. More DC’s would have different game plans since they will see us along with NE. Our division foes Bills and Jets will see it double. Someone will come up with a game plan to stop the offense and we will become better practicing against it. Bellicheck will even show us how to stop it. We have laudry, parker and we need another shifty wr like devon bess, our OL is better than theirs, and we have 2 te that can handle the job.Tanny is smart (premed)

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Lots of teams use the bunched WR groupings including us.

      • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

not like they do. I counted how many times they ran it against us and they only ran the same play 5-6 times out of 40 plus sets. This is their advantage against everyone.

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

not so concerning we know what they are going to do on offense. We may know the pre snap alignment but what they do out of the 3 wr bunched set is very confusing for DB’s and that’s how they are gaining their advantage.

  54. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Is it an 8 game or 8 week IR Ajayi is on? The reason I ask is because when he’s eligible to come off, if you don’t activate him, he has to remain on IR the rest of the season.

    ———————————————-
But thats not what im saying…thats words you putting in my mouth. He is not Gordon, or Gurley, and thats not saying he isnt talented, but it is saying he isnt a start right away guy, he was never a start right away guy. He was always a guy we would try to work in early and gradually increase his workload. He’s starting 8 games behind that schedule, so im saying he is a guy who is going to need to be gradually worked in not dropped into a 15-20 carry workload situation. By end of the year im hoping thats where he is at, i like the guy Mike, and im sorry if im hurting your feelings not swooning over him and thinking he’s the next AP, but im also NOT saying he wont get there, just that he isnt going and shouldnt be expected to be dropped in in game 8 and expected to be that.

Id also like to see Lippett and Bobby McCain start being worked in more. I want to see our rookies developed so please drop the attitude man. Im for playing the rookies at least in rotational roles, and im even more for them playing lots of reps if we hit a point where the season is officially over. Im actually already leaning that way right now but we seem to be fighting to hold on to hope so im trying to hold on to some myself.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not sure Ajayi will ever be better than Miller who when he gets the opportunities has shown he can be explosive and pick up chunk yards regularly. The big runs are starting to come for Miller.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don’t believe there is a ‘pre-med’ major at T A&M, just like most universities that have a medical school. Further, there is no requirement that your undergraduate degree be in the sciences, although I think that’s more common than not. You have to take the MCAT and do well. Anyone can say they are ‘pre-med’. Doesn’t mean a thing. Whether or not he’s an idiot or a genius, I have no idea. Probably somewhere in between.

I don’t know what else to think when you say a RB is a developmental player. That usually indicates he’s a guy with little experience, or he played for a small program. Talk about putting words in someones mouth, I don’t recall saying Ajayi was the next Adrian Peterson either. Let’s drop it, it’s counterproductive

I don’t know for sure, but they sure do like to build a lot of house on a little land down here in their developments. McMansions if you will. At the same time, you get a lot more house for the buck in FL than in the Northeast or DC area where I lived before…..part of why I moved here.

I wonder how Ryan is going to try to cross our defense this time? Every year he changes it up between meetings for us.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ryan isn’t an offensive guy, don’t think he has much to do with it other than he likes to pound the rock.

      • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

I’m sure he has input into game plan. One yr he surprised us with running almost all the time then 2nd game he came out passing a lot, he likes to mix it up or try to fool you.

  60. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stanger, that house in North Jersey (meaning in range of NYC) would probably be at least $15M.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

For sure……but keep in mind that is out West in Davie. Put it on the ocean and price would be much different. I figure all things considered (location, type of unit, when built, etc), where I live costs half of what it would have in the DC area. Same across the Hudson in NJ, maybe one-third or even one-quarter.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

        Yeah, location location location.

      • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

in western davie and sunshine ranches you will find lots of mansions. The land was cheap before huricane andrew and that’s when they started Weston. This area was all swamp land 20 years ago. There is very little land spaces to build out here now.

  63. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

jetssuck, when Ryan was with the Jets it was known that he didn’t get very involved with the offense.

  64. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I was one who was high on #34 Williams and advocated for his signing as an UDFA.
He’s flashed some real talent, especially as a receiving back.
He’s also looked ineffective at times due to limited snaps, not able to really get into the flow of a game which is crucial for most RB’s.
Plus with our offensive play calling & OL issues, everyone including Miller has looked ineffective many times.

With that said, I’d like to see more of Williams, but if he isn’t cutting it in practices, then by all means Gray should be ahead of him, and hopefully Ajayi will be phased in at some point.

But you can bet that Ajayi will get his chance before he’s cast aside. I really like his potential as well. He was very versatile in college and he has nice size @ 6’0 228!

It might have to wait till next year or could begin as a complimentary back in a few weeks. Depends also on how he practices. So far the coaches must not feel he’s ready, and that’s not all on Campbell….that’s also on Nixon, Saunders, & Lazor!

    Go #33 !

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The book on Williams was he wasn’t an instinctive back. I see that in his running. The difference between him and Miller is like night and day.

BACtrack, a San Francisco-based breathalyzer company, did a study to based on the data coming into them to figure out who are the biggest boozer…….the winner is no shocker.
    ——————————-
According to BACtrack’s consumption report, through the first seven weeks of the 2015 NFL season, fans of the Buffalo Bills had an average blood-alcohol level of .076, making them the drunkest fans in the entire league.

Buffalo Bills fans may have been deemed the biggest boozers in the NFL, but they weren’t the only ones who turned to the bottle. Per the study, the Detroit Lions (.069), the Philadelphia Eagles (.069), the Cleveland Browns (.064), and the Arizona Cardinals (.062) join the Bills as the five organizations whose fans consume the most alcohol.

  66. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    jetssuck,
Rex Ryan had Marty Mornhinweg with the Jets & now in Buffalo has Greg Roman who came from San Fran under Harbaugh hire there.

  67. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tim, right on Williams instincts, but again, some of that is a result of little playing time. His playing time was reduced in Oklahoma as well due to suspension, is why he went un-drafted.
He’s only 23, so maybe he still develops in time.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m rooting for him. He has excellent hands and runs with purpose. He also plays on STs so he has value.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Correct, I was going to mention that, but knew you knew…lol
Also remember us all bitching about Miller’s instincts too, dancing around, not following his blocks well, etc.
Now with many snaps under his belt, Miller is finding his way, seeing the blocks develop, his vision is a ton better and the success has come!

Stranger: if you ever want to be impressed by big mansions out in Davie.Take griffin to 27 then head north about 2 miles and on right you will see Ronnie Burgeron’s estate. He was the developer for Weston. He built weston and bought 300 acres for his own mansion across (us27) is everglades. He is a crazy fck but good people. He lost finger while alligator wrestling in his own alligator pit. He goes on phyton snake hunting and did I tell you he is almost 70 now. He is the guy who has his name on the davie rodeo ring stadium in downtown davie. I have several friends that work for him and he smokes pot like ciggerettes.

Anyone watch last night’s game? Randy Starks had two key penalties (you’d think a vet would know how to not line up offsides) and there was a Dansby tackle report or two. Must suck leaving South Beach to play for Johnny Football.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Didn’t see it, but I was listening to it on the radio, the announcers seemed to think the penalty was totally unnecessary on Dansby (Unsportsmanlike Conduct) after the tackle on Giovani Bernard.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Starks also had a unsportsmanlike penalty for taunting standing over a guy after a tackle.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I thought Starks played well….the offsides was a questionable call, he didn’t jump.
The other penalty was when he made a huge play pancaking the RB for a loss on a crucial play. He got robbed by a Unsportsman like flag cause Starks paused hovering somewhat over the RB as Randy got up off him.
I mean c’mon, football players are always jawing at each other. Wasn’t like he gave him a cheap shot and stuck his hand up the RB’s butt….LOL

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I knew he’d be called for that taunting. They’ve been cracking down on that crap the last few years. I personally don’t like taunting because I think it’s thug culture and not sportsmanship.
