Game Wrap Up:  Cowboys @ Dolphins

image

Well the Dolphin offense put up a whopping 210 yards and gave up a TD by throwing an interception to Rolando McClain deep in their own territory.

So you can guess the result on Sunday.

Lamar Miller averaged over 6 yards on the ground on Sunday.  So it only makes sense that he finished the game with 7 carries.  Looks like the Philbin gameplan will linger with the 2015 Dolphins.

image

The Dolphins had a shot after Jordan Cameron caught a TD right before the half.

Then Stills caught a TD to tie it at 14 points.

But at the end of the day the Cowboy made plays late and the Dolphins did not.

The Cowboys won 24-14

I read comments by multiple posters about how poor the qb play, the o-line, the defense, the Suh signing, the coaching, the game plan, the ownership, the management is- but as normal, the only one who gets vociferous, to-the-death representation here towards his defense is Tannehill.

I saw in the comments last night after the game people were talking about which coaches should be fired. See my avatar. Blow it all up!!

i read a article about the offense yardage per game since Philbin has been fired has decreased each week. We got to see a 1 in a million event yesterday of the kickoff that didn’t go through the endzone and instead bounced backward into the field of play.

This season has been nearly as disappointing.

Losing for Hue! That’s my new motto and I bet this team accomplishes their part by the end of the season. We have one guaranteed loss to the Pats and Im not sure we can even beat the rudderless Jets. We have a solid chance against the Ravens, Jets, SD, and mayube even the Giants and Indy depending on how bad they play. I see us going 3-3 though.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

It seems like just yesterday we were seeing the wringing of hands and the gnashing of teeth because we let Bowles go to the enemy…

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

He’s a good coach but he will need some time and seasoning. I wouldn’t mind ManCampbell being the Assistant HC but he’s not qualified to be a HC right now and doesn’t have the connections to get real coordinators.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I guess my point is it takes more than a coach- any coach- to make a team, yet here there were those who were screaming about how stupid Ross was by letting him walk.

  6. ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

“I’m not saying this because of the cameras,” said Dolphins middle linebacker Kelvin Sheppard, who had a season-high 15 tackles against Dallas. “I said the same thing to my team: We’re going to finish 10-6 and somehow claw and fight to get into these playoffs.”

    Quite, quite bewildering.

Federal law mandates that all known records relating to the assassination of jfk will be released by 2017, unless any agency objects, in which case the Assassination Records and Review Board would consider the appeal; but the spokesman said the CIA as of now has no plans to pose any such objections.
yesterday was the anniversary of his assassination

  8. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Shepard has 61 tackles on the year
He had 15 yesterday and I glad he stepped up with the other LBs out
but the reality is he is probably the worst player on our Defense

He collected a quarter of his tackles on he year yesterday – and that says a lot about how bad he has been in the previous 9 games

  9. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

SOME HELP FOR OUR DOLPHINS. – – Ravens QB Joe Flacco is out for the year with at least a torn ACL, if not further ligament damage. And Andrew (“Shit-out-of”) Luck is reportedly out another 4-6 weeks, making him unlikely for the Miami game. While the Dolphins figure to be underdogs this week at the Jets, they’ll likely be favored in all their remaining games except at home vs. New England. And the Pats may rest their key starters for that game IF, as expected, they’ve locked-up the #1 seed in the AFC by then.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think Luck is scheduled to come back against us
      we will see

I would rather beat the jests and the cheats than the ravens and the colts if I had a choice

the 3 game stint against the giants and chargers is actually a tough one too
bc we go on the road and play on the west coast

  10. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I thought Suh dominated Martin and the rest of the OL yesterday
I thought the DL played pretty well as a whole

What drives me crazy is that the only DB or LB that comes up and makes tackles is Rashad Jones
You realize that Jones and the other safety basically play the same position
but the only we ever see on Sunday making a tackle is Jones
    Where is the other safety?
In general I haven’t seen our CBs come up and make tackles to help the run either
Last few years I thought Grimes was great at this
but this year he is a no show vs the run

Jalen Ramsey might be a great addition to our defense
He might be a difference maker

We’re simply not that good of a team. I don’t even want to get into evaluating specific players, as a team this group just isn’t that good.

I also can’t take Lazor’s approach anymore. Miller starts the game off like he’s being fired out of a cannon so what does Lazor do, he decides it would be best to do something else. WTF is wrong with him? 7 rushes when the game was close most of the game?

I don’t care what we do in the offseason, just please get some people in here to turn this thing around.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

are you saying you don’t want to run the WR screen on 1st down to start every drive?

      BC that is just crazy!!!

why would we not start a drive off doing exactly what other teams have prepared for when they prepare FOR US

      Lazor is brilliant
He is so predictable, that some opponent is going to not expect what they prepared for all week

      WR screen on 1st down
Run Miller from the shotgun on 2nd down
      Try to convert 3rd down
      I love it!
      What’s your problem with Lazor

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

As I’ve said recently, I am starting to come around to your thinking on this. The talent is- not talented (enough). Perhaps they’re physically able, but the thing between the ears that controls self-discipline seems to be of lesser import. I think Zach Thomas is a good blue print, particularly for your core guys- not necessarily a specimen, but a workaholic who has self control and knows his job and responsibility (as well as that of others). More of this type is needed on this team.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Agreed. His play calling is the biggest WTF are you doing, that I’ve ever seen in all my years.
I really wanted the guy and hoped the best with the coaching tree he fell from, but apparently he learned nothing or is on some rouge mission to prove his way is best…well Bill Lazor, it’s NOT!

Lazor’s play calling takes us out of the game, not the opponent, we do it to ourselves and it’s maddening. Then the game gets away from us and we can’t get it back. It’s the same game basically every week even some of the wins.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I really think we are in our own way more than anything else

    I also can’t take Lazor’s approach anymore.

I’m right there too. I don’t remember the exact point in the game, but we needed something like 11 yds on 3rd down and he calls a 1 yard pass in heavy traffic expecting the receiver to don Superman’s cape and fly into first down territory. That was the straw that broke this camel’s back. FFS.

  23. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Most teams in the NFL run effective dump off passes under the 1st down marker to convert 3rd downs

But we can’t do it b/c there is no room for the ball carrier to move

which IMO is based on what we do 1st and 2nd down
we don’t exactly create space on those 2 downs

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I also can’t stand the empty backfield sets….gee that’ll catch the defense off guard….SMH!

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

its like they want the defense to know exactly what they are doing
I guess the intent is to be so good at what you are doing it does not matter if the D knows

        but that hasn’t worked out
They need to create some unpredictability

  24. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tim, correct. Lazor’s play calling takes the RB Miller & then Tanny right out of the game. Neither can ever get into any kind of flow or rhythm.
Other teams are key to what we are doing on offense , so from there mistakes abound and we collapse from within.
I rarely ever see a ‘set’ of calls designed to exploit n opponents weaknesses. Yet that’s exactly how those opponents attack us routinely!
    It’s maddening!

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

its the same blueprint every week
it doesn’t matter who our opponent is
they just try the same thing each week
      and its the same results

    **************
we were screaming about it in September
    It hasn’t changed
They made a couple of minor adjustments when Philbin was fired
but I feel like they just went back to the stuff they were doing

I don’t know why they don’t throw to Cameron on 1st down
    or throw deep

or run the ball on the first 2 downs from a formation that is not the shotgun

There are so many little things we can do that would make a difference on offense

but every week its the same song
WR screen, run from shotgun on 2nd down
then try to convert 3rd down – and then in a post game speech – “we weren’t good on 3rd down”
no guys – you weren’t good on any down

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Yep, and as I mentioned above….the empty backfield sets drive me nuts. Especially on early downs.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

those are just WR screens anyway….lol
If its 1st down and there is no back, then its a WR screen
I’m pretty sure every D in the league knows we will do that

  26. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Miller was a 1000yd back, he’s young too. So why constantly go away from what he’s able to give you on offense??? 😯

  27. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

The procedure, false starts, and holding penalties kill us too.
How many times have you looked at the screen and see us 2nd and 25…..SMH

I was at the bar watching the game yesterday and I said “wow, look at that, what an upset, you never see that happen”. People were looking at the TV I was watching to see what was going on: it was Tannehill under center…LOL. This shotgun happy offense is going to drive me fricking crazy.

  29. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

On every one of those 1st down screen the only yardage we get is Landry fighting for it
which is one thing I love about Il Succo
    but WTF
why keep running that play instead of having Landry pick up YAC on a throw that is not a screen

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Landry has proven he can get by DBs down the field, but we don’t want to do that too often, teams might think we’ll try it again. SMH

  30. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If I’m Miller I can’t wait to get out of Miami so I can actually get the ball and utilize my skills. Some team will give it to him.

I like Jayron Kearse a lot when he fits in my mock drafts i try to squeeze him in. He’s like 6’4 and runs a 4.4 40. I actually prefer him as a safety prospect to Ramsey. Id prefer us to draft Hargreaves (as it seems we might be picking high enough to get him now) and then grab Kearse 2nd or 3rd rounds depend on how he ultimately grades out after combine, etc.

We cant get Ramsey and Hargreaves without a big trade up scenario, and i would rather have the combination of Kearse and Ramsey than Ramsey and some other CB or even Ramsey+Kearse.

    • D's avatar D says:

I meant i prefer Kearse and Hargreaves over ….

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Do you think both Ramsey and Hargreaves will go 1st 5 picks

I don’t think 2 DBs go that high
even if they are top tier prospects

I don’t know where we will be picking
but I’m guessing its at least top 15
      tough to say now though
I think 22 teams in the NFL are below .500

  32. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

After the game, Dez Bryant had nothing but good things to say about Grimes.

“Oh, man, I love Grimes,” Bryant said. “He’s arguably the best. He’s arguably the best as well. It’s like even when you make a move on him, he’s still there. You get him picked around, he’s still there. And I think that’s what I respect most about his game.

“You know he’s very patient, he’s very quick, real quick, and guys like that you want to train with those kinds of guys, you know? Because it will help you as well, and that’s what me and him were talking about. At the end of the year in the offseason, we’re going to get together and try to do some work together.”

In a show of respect, Bryant also requested Grimes’ game-worn uniform after Dallas’ win. Swapping jerseys is a popular thing among athletes in various sports to remember their games.

“[I] got his jersey,” Bryant said. “You know it’s that real. Like I said, I respect him, I have high respect for him.”

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

grimes actually played well on Bryant
but Bryant made some amazing plays
and Bryant’s TD was against a LB (rookie free agent Hewitt) – which is a failure of mexican buffet fart proportions

      Bryant is pretty amazing

  33. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Its blurry
but the last photo in this post is 2 dolphins colliding mid air
    which is symbolic

  34. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    This says a lot
Ryan Tannehill had as many carries as Ajayi (3)
I think they were all read options
and that is almost half as many as Miller (7)

    Lazor being too cut again
at least we didn’t run 10 reverses to our slowest WR

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Landry is good at it though and he’s not slow. He runs like a RB too. But it should not be a staple in our offense. Then again, our staple plays suck shit!

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        I like it
and I like Landry ability to make something out of it

But I was talking about the Matthews reverses

we just do it too much instead of throwing some simpler stuff downfield to our WRs

  35. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

BTW, the TD pass to Dez that killed us was when OC Scott Linehan (remember him), made an adjustment and got Bryant into the slot away from Grimes when he saw a zone read. This left undrafted rookie Hewitt on Dez and undrafted 2nd year Aikens coming over late to help Dez celebrate the go ahead TD.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Aikens was not undrafted

I pretty much think whatever the safety did would have been a nonfactor on that play
that play was over when the LB was covering Bryant
I did not see a way for the DB to make a difference once the ball was snapped

I’m not sure how when you see Bryant inside you can’t just have your best CB follow him instead of staying outside

the adjustment is not exactly brain science
If the other team reacts – its countered

but we stick to do the same thing no matter what our opposition does
Its kind of the theme of the 2015 Dolphins
fail and succeed doing the same thing over and over again

  36. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tannehill was real inconsistent yesterday, both bad and good. His pick 6 was awful. But to me Lazor is a big part of RT not going to another level. How could you running the shit plays that we do. No offensive player can go on a tear in this offense because we won’t allow it. Hey look he runs a post really well, let’s not do that too much and have him run more curls. That’s what it feels like to me.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I do think, even as bad as Lazor has been, you can evaluate players performances under those circumstances

I tend to think Miller and Landry have performed well even though I don’t like the way they are used – I can probably say that for Stills, Ajayi and Matthews too

  49. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, I didn’t say evaluate, I said progress or go on a tear. This offense is not the offense that best suits Tannehill’s skills or anyon’s for that matter. He’d be better in a system that Gary Kubiak runs. He loves to run the football and use a lot of play-action and bootlegs etc. Not that the Broncos offense is playing well because it’s not, but that’s the style of offense that best suits RT.

  54. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Just an aweful aweful aweful game plan by the Dolphins offensive coaches.
Ryan Tannehill was having a subpar game and instead of managing from the gut as real coaches do, Lazor keeps operating as if feel has nothing to do with it and leaves RT out there trying to gun his way to success.
Meanwhile, the opposing team is just pounding McFadden over and over even if he’s only getting minimal yards. The point of emphasis was to soften up Miami while also protecting Romo as much as they can.
Romo didn’t have a good game but he was clutch in a few spots.
The TD pass to Terrance Williams would have been intercepted by about 80% of the FS out there (McCain in classic Dolphins fashion slipped somehow coming over and couldn’t get to the landing point).

  55. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Piggy,
I disagree 100% on responsibility on the Dez Bryant TD.
That was on Aiken given the depth of where Bryant caught the pass as no LB can cover a WR that far into the route (if that’s the design then that’s a failure recipe).
That kind of route is a classic LB got the underneath spot and acts like he’s in route to bait the QB into throwing it where the S will come over and be the defender over the top (zone style).

Another adjustment would be starting Bobby McCain at corner over Jamar Taylor and then moving Taylor into the slot on nickle/dime packages. Jamar seems to only play well when the play is in front of him (he gets lost when he’s got his back to the thrower).

  58. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Al,

That’s what frustrates me the most as well. Stupid penalties that just kill us. We are at best an average team and we can’t get away from these self inflicted injuries. The offense is not built to get 11 yards ever and that’s why we are the worst 3rd down team in the NFL. Our guys are undisciplined and that includes some vets that really suck. How Fox ever kept his job baffles me. Sure, he’s versatile but he gets at least 2-3 drive killing penalties a game.

  59. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Is #22 still on the team? Cut that mofo! He SUCKS!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t get how Taylor gets ripped after every game when it’s not him allowing the biggest plays? The Cowboys only had 227 yards receiving and they were not all on Taylor. So what gives? Is this just a built in criticism of him every week. Why am I not seeing him being so bad? I seriously don’t. Is it because he allows a few completions? Sheppard is the worst guy in coverage on our team, he allows the reception every time.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t expect anything from Sheppard, so maybe that’s why. He’s a slow MLB who is “supposed” to be a good run defender. He can’t cover, but injuries have left him as the starter. Taylor should be a starter on the boundary, but he gets overtaken by an average at best rookie, and then Taylor still sucks when he’s on the field. He’s always making big mistakes, holding penalties or PI penalties, and one big one nullified that sack and that changed the whole complexion of the game. Then he gets beat, he’s awful Tim, I just don’t understand how you don’t see it.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

So many penalties against him, I wish I could pull up a stat how many times he holds someone.

    New Age,
It was a sad game to watch in that the Cowboys weren’t even doing anything special, it was like the penalties and stupid plays were just their 12th man LOL.
After I saw Fox close line the lone defender out in the perimeter on a RT run i just started laughing going “this is too much”

  62. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

I don’t know if you guys saw the Sunday night game but the Bengals were down 2 possessions with the ball in Arizona’s side of the field and on 3rd and 28 they threw a 30 yard pass over the top for an in completion… I was like, that would never happen in Miami.

I’m not letting up on the season just yet, it’s still there for the Fins regarding the WC spots (as optimistic as that sounds).
My hope lies in that many of the last few losses have been as a result of self made mistakes (penalties, dropped passes, etc) and not that the other team was really doing anything to dominate (they let the Fins dominate themselves).

i never said or meant to indicate he was defended. i was trying to say the emphasis was on the players yesterday and not the coaching. even said it was more how i took it not a fact.

but like i always have to keep saying, the whole organization sucks. get rid of them all

  66. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

“Sheppard is the worst guy in coverage on our team, he allows the reception every time.”
    —–
You watch him on sideline runs, he waits for the blockers to get out in front and it’s too late.
As a MLB you have to ram through the blocks and give yourself up for the others behind on the play.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Vigil got faked really bad by McFadden too on that outside run. He made a cut fake inside where Vigil should not have bitten but he did and McFadden kept it outside. The two LBs had it played right and had him but both LBs bit on the fake. Vigil would have beaten him to outside if he stayed on course. I can give the rookie a pass there. Sheppard is not a starting caliber LB.

  67. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    FFR,
My argument for dismissing Lazor is simple enough, Al Saunders was hired 3 weeks ago to do something and he’s got more NFL experience than Lazor in the play calling and coaching department. Let the old fart ride out the season as the signal caller since he’s already on the payroll.

  69. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

It’s never too late to fire someone especially a signal caller…precedence? Ravens SB year, they fired Cam Cameron with 3 weeks to go LOL.
From ESPN on a January 13 2013 article
“When Cameron was fired on Dec. 10 (2012), the Ravens were 9-4 and still rather productive by averaging 344.4 yards on offense. “

  70. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Fox is starting because of injuries. Taylor is out there because he’s supposed to be a starter after 3 years, being a 2nd RD pick

  71. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

I was happy with Vigil’s play yesterday. He made one mistake that cost us another 10-15 yards on the ground on an outside run (he gave the RB the outside instead of holding the edge for the other defenders already coming in. But when the situation presented itself again on another play, he didn’t fall for it again and he made a tackle as the RB tried to cut in (while he was outside taking that option away). Experience will be his friend going forward but i expect the coaches to put in an average veteran and relegate him to the bench in classic Fins fashion.

  72. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
I agree with you on Taylor, there is talent there but certain things he doesn’t do well instinctually such as what to do on the perimeter when he’s out deep with his back to the ball thrower.
That is a strength for Bobby McCain. Maybe McCain can’t play the run as well as Taylor but at this point, I’d rather have the better cover guy playing that position.
Keep McCain at CB and put Taylor in the slot where he mostly just has to worry with what’s in front of him and doesn’t have to play with his back to the thrower.

  73. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike E, yes Taylor does get called for penalties just about every week but a few of them I think have been BS just like many calls in this league. The officiating is atrocious. I’m not saying he never gets beat, but every player on our defense gets beat week after week. I just don’t see it on Taylor while everyone else is playing well.

On the TD Williams scored on, Taylor had pretty good coverage on the outside and looked to be expecting help over the top which Br. McCain did provide, but tripped and stumbled and botched the chance to play the ball.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m not sure why he was expecting help from McCain, he was 1 on 1 with Williams, and he got beat. He didn’t have good coverage, he was 5 yards behind.

      • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

That’s McCain’s job as a safety hence the word ‘safety”

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

No he wasn’t that far behind, he did hold up as McCain came into the play though and McCain had a chance to break it up or pick it off but stumbled. I say he was expecting help based on his actions and the fact that McCain was playing over the top.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Tripped and stumbled is an understatement, he looked like he was trying to plant on ice…very strange

  74. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Look guys 9-7 is still a real possibility if the Fins can clean up their mistakes LOL.
Got the Jets coming up which at least is a winnable game.
The Ravens lost Joe Flacco yesterday on one of their final plays of the game (torn ACL done for the year)…
Then you got the Giants who are up and down followed by Chargers and Colts who are probably at the same level as Miami.
NE last game of the year? Hopefully they can just bench some people by then LOL.

  75. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

  76. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m not going to defend Fox. I’ve been saying for months the Dolphins needed to address the O-line, and they gave us Jamil Douglas and Jeff Linkenbach. Not nearly enough.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You can’t upgrade 7 OL in just 2 years. Hickey inherited Pouncey (hip injury), Garner, Brenner and Thomas his first season. Only Pouncey and Thomas are still on the team.

That first year he signed Albert to start, Fox for depth, drafted James 1st rd and Turner 3rd rd. Did you want to spend the same amount of resources on the OL the next year as well? He tried to add some depth and drafted a G in the 4th rd. He’s tried to put a good group together but you can’t upgrade everyone overnight.

  77. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Players leave their man to play the ball all the time man. That’s how it’s done. Once the ball is in the air, why would you continue to stay on a man not getting the ball? McCain had the play, watch how Taylor backs off which he probably should not have done, but he’s definitely giving way to McCain.

  82. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

  83. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I am in similar straits to Tim right now. This team really isn’t even getting my full attention anymore. I swear I had a lot more fun the week I didn’t get to watch any of it. Throughout the week I barely even think about them and it’s a battle to even try and watch the horrendous effort applied every week. I’m not even sure I’ll watch next year unless a really proven HC is given the reins to do what needs done.

I hate to fuel my inner OD, but Ross really hasn’t done a good job with team leadership which is really the only job he should be worrying about. I like him, and respect his determination to pay for top notch players, but then he gets subpar leadership and I wonder if he is as willing to ignore complete incompetence at his primary profession? Maybe he’s just loyal and finds solid talent at the job he does know. I know he’s flying blind at this one.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ross has only hired one HC and one GM. He inherited Ireland and Sparano and was learning on the fly until he fired both. It’s not like he’s hired multiple GMs and HCs for over a decade. He’s only been an active owner since 2010. He will likely look for the big HC in the offseason.

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

He will have let go two HCs within 5 years. He has a funky GM/Tannebaum situation as well and lots of people in his ear. The comment was mainly…does he have the right people in his ear?

  84. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Mike E,
I’m not defending him as a complete player or what he’s done in the past; i’m simply saying that in that specific play, he did get beat over the top but that McCain was in position to at least break up the play (or come up with an INT in best case scenario) but he blew it.
80% of FS breaking on the ball in the same way McCain did come up with an INT but somehow he slipped and couldn’t get his footing under him as if someone froze the field with ice.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Taylor looks like he came up limp after further review then falls with no contact. It looked worse watching it again then when I saw it live.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mr. T is not the personnel man here though. He’s involved in so much more within the organization to be that. He’s also not really a personnel man, he’s more of an executive than scout.

    This was an excellent play!

  87. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Fact is guys, there’s no way Taylor was expecting help, it all depended on where Beasley’s route left McCain. What if Beasley took him McCain across the field, McCain wouldn’t be anywhere near him. It would have been a great play by McCain if he was able to break it up, but the blown coverage is on Taylor. Enough of this though, it doesn’t matter now, we lost, and we have a huge uphill battle to try on make the playoffs.

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

I remember watching the replay of the play, and they kept showing McCain after the play like it was his fault. I thought Taylor got beat and it was fortunate McCain was even in the area, even if he did not make the play. I am more concerned that Taylor seems to get defensive penalties only on 3rd down after we get a stop, it seems. Bad calls or not, it is extremely frustrating.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I thought he was holding up seeing McCain come into the play, but after further review Taylor looks weird like he pulls a hammy and then trips and falls bizarrely with no contact.
