Game Wrap Up:  Cowboys @ Dolphins

image

Well the Dolphin offense put up a whopping 210 yards and gave up a TD by throwing an interception to Rolando McClain deep in their own territory.

So you can guess the result on Sunday.

Lamar Miller averaged over 6 yards on the ground on Sunday.  So it only makes sense that he finished the game with 7 carries.  Looks like the Philbin gameplan will linger with the 2015 Dolphins.

image

The Dolphins had a shot after Jordan Cameron caught a TD right before the half.

Then Stills caught a TD to tie it at 14 points.

But at the end of the day the Cowboy made plays late and the Dolphins did not.

The Cowboys won 24-14

    On draft needs
It really depends on who we bring in as HC
but I think right now – focusing on defense is the way to go
    build something around Suh

    piggy,

there are two very high priced players on this team. if they are picking one to build around it should be suh.

lol at that draft. the worst part is i could see this ass backwards organization wasting its top two picks on a qb.

    piggy,
I thought FS was a big need for us last draft. I think it was a mistake not going after one early. I have no faith that this front office can effectively scout their own team and draft accordingly. Hell, I have no faith in anybody from this organization.

I think that TD throw to Williams was just on the money
If Taylor is tighter I don’t think he is able to defend it
If you leave your CBs alone, they usually get beat sometimes unless its Revis in his prime or Sherman
that play doesn’t jump out to me as evidence that Taylor sucks
its a good throw and Taylor is pretty much on an island
McCain should not have even been near the play he was covering some one else

We need 3 or 4 of them if Lazor is still OC.

lmao are 3 or 4 with lazor. can you imagine that. he would have one qb for passing plays to the TE’s one for passing plays to WR’s, one for dump offs, one for hand offs.

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Right next to the QB and RB. They are there to confuse the defense while the QB takes off for a 5 yard run that results in the QB getting killed. It is a masterful use of deception by the OC.

  18. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Piggy,
I don’t think the overall talent on the team is better than average. Every team has at least a couple high-end players. You can’t keep losing and claim you’re talented. I think it’s even worse if you think you’re talented and you’re STILL losing.

  19. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t see many FBs in the league.

  20. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Honestly
every team in the NFL has holes
if you posted what every team needs it would look like a lot too
its not just holes its sometimes pending needs (like DE in our case)

but the good teams still succeed in spite of those needs and that is usually based on good coaching and good QB play

so many games int he NFL are decided on a handful of plays
you don’t have to be perfect
but you have to be in a position to make plays
    and then make those plays

And I would say our coaching does not put us in position to make plays
and the QB, the OL and the defense often lets us down at crucial times – while they play well at other times

the engine isn’t a bad one
its just put together all wrong IMO

I just see no leadership on this team…especially on the offensive side of the ball. There never seems to be any sense of urgency in big moments. Nobody seems to be willing or able to step up and show this offense how to win in those big moments. I also don’t think our coaches trust players to get it done. Hence, not going for it on 4th down, down by 10 with under 7 minutes to go. That was a telling decision for me. If I’m the leader on offense, I’m in the coach’s face telling him how important it is for us to go for it right there….to give me a chance to win the game. That stunk of giving up, right there.

He makes a BIG fucking brain fart mistake every game. Get rid of him too. EVERYONE MUST GO!

  29. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I would expect Pouncey to say exactly that. It does no good to openly question your coaches in the media. That’s why I never pay attention to what players or coaches say. I expect them to be PC with the media. Still, there’s no way I give the ball back to Romo right there. It’s not like our defense was getting a bunch of 3 and outs. There was no reason to expect we’d get the ball back in that situation with enough time left to score twice…not with how our offense was playing. One score…yeah, I get it…but down by 10 …not so much.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Who’s coaching his drops? That is definitely a coaching area. I remember Sherman talking about practicing 3 step drops over and over with a stop watch to work on getting the ball out quickly. If RT is dropping back too far that’s something coaches should be working on with him. That’s not really the type of thing you say publicly either. Rookie HC mistake.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I found it odd and out of left field for sure. Guess Lazor can’t even lean on his QB coaching ‘experience’. 🙄

  34. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,
The NFL has gone away from offenses that needed a traditional FB. That’s one of the reasons I get a little confused when people rip Lazor. The offense we run isn’t all that different than most NFL teams. We do it like pretty much every other team does it….we just don’t excite very well. For the most part, teams just don’t run plays that have a lead blocker. Too much emphasis on the pass and a premium on roster spots.
    ***
Besides, if we started running behind a fullback….the first time Miller gained 2 yards on three straight runs…people would be bitching and saying we should throw the ball more! Lol

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You’re right lots of teams lineup like we do, but many of them lineup under center more often and don’t throw endless amounts of WR screens. It’s also how Lazor puts plays together that is maddening.

We never do herdfan! on average you only get 1 pick per round if you don’t trade them away. If you ONLY draft players to fill out your roster that would take 7 1/2 years of drafting to fill out the 53 man roster. With the average career of an NFL Player being only 3.5 years you can NEVER catch up…

This offseason with us having to fire or execute EVERYONE we will only have 6 players on the squad next year. (already traded one away)

Oh boy…who do you support when Campbell slams Tannehill? Lol
    ***
By the way, I thought the same thing about Tannehill’s drops late in the game. Way too deep, and then he didn’t step up in the pocket. No tackle can seal the edge when your QB is 10 yards deep. Pocket awareness.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Campbell hardly slammed Tanny. He’s just trying to throw up beach balls for the media to bat around while he desperately tries to figure out WTF is wrong with this team.
If anything it’s a backhanded indictment of his coaches.

  37. Randy's avatar Randy says:

No NFL QB in his 4th year should need to be coached about depth of drops. That is basic QB stuff. That’s ALL on Tannehill…not a coaching issue. My goodness, if this kid needs to be coached at that level, we’re even more screwed than I thought.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

So, our coaches have to tell our veteran QB not to drop back 10 yards? No play I know of calls for that. I know you love the kid, but that is not a coaching issue. Maybe for a first year guy…but not for a veteran. It puts a spotlight on a QB who’s pocket presence sucks.

    Tim,
No, I just speak the truth about Tannehill and you refuse to see it. It’s not hate…just reality. No 4 year pro QB should be coached on drops. That shit you learn in high school. Besides it wasn’t like he was taking a 7 step drop when he should have been taking a three step drop. He was dropping back further than he would on any play….and surprise, surprise he gets sacked and the OL gets blamed. Lol

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ve never said Tanny was a great QB, I just defend him against what I consider unfair attacks. What you’re saying here is not true. QBs work on fundamentals at every level every year.

Funny thing, last week he can’t audible and we find out that’s nonsense. This week it’s his drops are too far back which has never been mentioned before. I can’t wait for this to be explained so all the comments about it are also relegated to nonsense. LOL

  44. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The drops are all predicated on the timing of the play called. They can be 3 step drops, 5 step drops, seven step drops, 3 step drops with a hitch, 5 step drops with a hitch, 7 step drops with a hitch, etc. It’s all about letting the pass patterns develop and the timing between the drop, the throw and the routs called. You don’t call a 3 step drop when you are running a 40 yard pattern.

  45. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t understand all this talk about drops anyway. The only drops I see are by the Dolphins receivers, tight ends and running backs….How do you have a ‘drop’ when you start every play from shotgun??

  46. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Rock,
That’s obvious, but if you look at his drops…specifically late in the game is where I really noticed it…you disrupt the integrity of the pocket because you’re too far back…and outside of the pocket. That’s what I noticed. Tanny was too far back…even for a 7 step drop(which is from under center and changes in shotgun)….and defenders have a much softer corner to get around. I’m tired of talking about Tannehill though. This team sucks, and he sucks right along with them. I’m tired of being called a hater for voicing an opinion. It is what it is.

  47. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Randy, we can agree on one thing. This team stinks like a dead fish.. from the head down. Get rid of Tannehill. Blow the whole damn thing up. A smoking crater should be all that’s left in Davie.

It’s your opinion that I’m wrong….even when the head coach says the same thing I say. Is he wrong too? Whatever, you defend players all the time and your opinions change week to week. My criticism/opinion of Tannehill is fair because everything I say I see…and lots of other people are beginning to see it too. So, are we all wrong simply because you disagree? Could it be you’ve been the one who’s been wrong all these years? I’m getting tired of you pigeonholing me as a hater simply because you disagree with my opinion. It’s offensive and belittling. But hey…it is what it is. We move on….

  49. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Randy, here’s the issue, you come here and tell people you told them you were right about this and that, then when they challenge what you say you get defensive and say you’re tired of being called a hater. I never called you that, I said you’re bias which I think is obvious. For example we all know GD is bias about Tanny the other way because he’s a big fan. I’m not as high on Tanny as GD is, but I get tired of people exaggerating criticisms about him. They seem to ignore the other stuff going on and just put it all on him. That’s my opinion of what I see here.

The OL is a problem, they struggle to pass pro in big spots constantly. Tanny isn’t perfect and makes mistakes too. The OC is baffling at calling plays. The receivers have some drops at times and there are too many stupid penalties. We’re not a good offense or team. I think we all agree with that.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

      Hey bucko, I’m not a blind homer….lol
Tanny has issues, but as you and I have pointed out over and over, that a lot of it, not all, but a lot of it is a result of poor scheme, play calls, OL deficiencies, penalties, and yes even poor defense that puts the OC in a panic mode early on….lol

  60. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Randy,
I can understand your frustrations about RT but W-L shouldn’t start/end with the QB. You definitely have an argument over a longer term issue (QB of future who can go deep into the playoffs etc). Other teams find a way to win despite whatever issue they have at QB. In your own backyard you have Minnesota is doing fine W-L wise despite Bridgewater’s sub par output. The team in Miami has no where near the running game Seattle & Minnesota employ week in and week out. And those teams have coaches that don’t put it on their QB either unless they have no other choice (they like to run and soften up defenses and use play action off it). You cite Lynch’s absence in defending Wilson’s numbers yesterday but type it like Rawls had nothing to do with the Hawks offense. Rawls been hyped since training camp; limited only by the depth chart, and he had a career day (not because of Wilson). Until the time comes that Miami can field a top 10 defense and employ a good rushing attack, I’m not even thinking of replacing RT immediately. That’s not to say don’t draft options because I feel a team should take a QB EVERY year since it’s such a crap shoot to find one that can be good in the NFL. However, I will agree with this, no one should be immune to a good ole benching and if RT is having a bad bad day, then bring on Matt Moore if the game is still within reach.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I also don’t think Tanny is a pass heavy gunslinger. That’s why when he was a rookie we were all looking at him in a traditional WCO and more of a 30rush/30pass split utilizing his mobility etc. Look at what we run on offense. Even Sherman abandoned the running game and passed too much.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

As bad a day as Tanny was having, he still had a better QBR that Romo overall.

Soooo, just so my hate is sated properly, do you guys think they will torture and dismember the players and staff when they cut them all at the end of the season (Rockphin says hopefully rubbing his hands together) or will they just do it the old boring way? There must be some torture involved IMO as they have tortured me for the last decade plus. GOD I HATE THEM! I need to think up a new word to replace ‘hate’ in this instance. It is too mild. DESPISE is too weak a word too…..I will come up with something..

  62. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
You’ve called me a hater many times over the years and insinuated that if people don’t see how good Tannehill is that we just don’t get it. Own it! It’s cool. I think you’re a blind homer whose opinion wavers depending on the week. I just don’t say it all the time. Lol
    ***
And, I know around here it’s seen as not cool to say when someone else is wrong, but how else can we have true conversations about team issues? I’ve been beaten up like an ugly stepchild over my criticism of Tannehill from day one. Several of you haven’t been shy about telling me how wrong I am, so how is what I do any different? Is it because I have a negative opinion, and it’s okay to have an opinion as long as it’s a positive one?
    ***
I’ve said the OL has struggled many, many times. Not sure why everyone feels the need to constantly bring that up when responding to me. I rarely defend them. I’ve also said I don’t like how Lazor calls a game. That doesn’t mean that Tannehill hasn’t had his own issues and played poorly. The reality is that Tannehill makes his OL worse, and his OL makes him worse. I’m not mad…just gets old having your opinion marginalized or ignored by pigeonholing me as a “hater”. Kind of ends any conversation we may be having. Like I said…it is what it is…we move on with no hard feelings. I don’t judge what sort of fan someone wants to be.

I put the Phins & Tanny in that same category. For all the bad things he does, he does more things good. But bottomline is there are no other units that are shinning consistently and picking up the slack when we need it.

I think Campbell’s personality would attract good coordinators.

    Al,
Thanks, glad you’re seeing that too. I’ve been beating that drum a little.
Tannenbaum has a lot of connections around the league, also a recent coaches agent of sorts. So he can certainly help Campbell rebuild his staff if that is the direction they want to go.
The risk with a experienced formidable HC candidate and complete overhaul as many want, is that a lot of the talent here will be broken up as the new regime ‘rebuilds’ to their preferences.
If so, get ready for more down years of .500 or below football at the onset.

Either way is a gamble of sorts. I just hope the FO reads the tea leaves right this time.

    Al,
Sorry, those comments about Wilson were really a continuation of a conversation ffr and I had last night. It wasn’t meant as a rip on Tannehill. Their OL is no better than ours though. How is it their QB and running game succeed with such a terrible OL? They even run out of the shotgun! Do they just have better skill position players and depth….or is our OL just that much worse? Maybe it is. Maybe all we need to be good is a new OL.

By the way, Rawls is good. He’s a starter in-waiting. If Lynch can’t play, they’ll be okay at RB.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Their OL, like ours is bad at pass pro, but do real well run blocking. At least the Hawks coaching staff can see that and goes to that strength, which in turn, provides more opportunities at times for Wilson in the pass game.

    Randy,
I like Wilson so I’m not going to say anything other than he was put into a good situation. He’s good, at this point yes, better than RT……there are still more good than bad things I like about RT’s skills (pocket presence obviously is not one of them). On passing on Wilson, could have been worse…Cleveland took Brandon Weeden at 25 overall; Denver took Brock Osweiler at 57 overall & Seattle passed on him until the 3rd RD where they took him 75 overall. Miami unfortunately has been terrible at taking QB outside of RD 1 but before RD 4 (John Beck & Pat White). I wish there were better QB minds out there to consult with.

Most likely but in a different way…>Wilson trying to run more, getting sacked the same or stuffed for just a 1 or 2 yard gain. Down and distance he probably would do a better job but overall the cumulative effort would probably result in the same W-L record.

I don’t think Tannehill is the biggest issue on this team, but I do think he’s a bigger issue than some others think he is? I’m not sure Tannehill can win championships. I think his weaknesses will be magnified in the playoffs. I could be completely wrong, but all I have to go on is what he’s shown so far. I don’t see a winner. Maybe that changes with better players around him. But, if that’s the case, just how good is he, really? Maybe our whole team is just that bad.

  99. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Randy, hard to see RT as a winner when he’s not on a winning team. You yourself have said this team has some good players but mostly average or less so expecting us to win isn’t realistic.

I believe if we were a team that really committed to the running game and helped their OL to stay off their heels more often, we’d have a change to win many more games. Our record when we back off the run is atrocious but when we run it a lot our record is very good. Yet Sherman and Lazor both seem to ignore that reality.

  100. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’d take Wilson over Tannehill because I think he’s a more complete player and makes the players around him better. But, I think conversations like this are moot. It’s unfair to compare players like that because the situations are different. To each their own.
