Happy New Year!

Happy New Year 2016

Happy New Year to all my friends here, Tanneshills and Tannekills alike!

Just remember, no matter what, we’re all on the same team here!  Enjoy yourselves tonight, be safe, be smart, and have fun.

Here’s to hoping we get things right for our team next year, and to all,  peace, love, health and happiness!

    Tim,

I hope so with respect to your comment on Jordan.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not saying he will succeed, but he has too much talent to not give him a look. Think about what all these other players do in this league and they get chance after chance. My main issue with Jordan is I’m not sure he loves football.

5 years ago the Warriors got new ownership who said they’d run the team like a ‘fan’, not a business. They hired a “The Logo” to evaluate talent, a former agent as GM to structure contracts, and rebuilt a perennial laughing stock into a a champion. Is this model the Dolphins only hope? (still waiting for new A’s ownership) lol

  20. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I wonder if Ross makes Urban Meyer a deal he can’t refuse to come back to Florida and test the NFL waters?

I know people here don’t like him but I’ve seen interviews with him and he’s basically a straight shooter. I don’t know the details of all his stuff and I don’t care. He’s still coaching OSU. He’s not in jail. LOL

What I do know from listening to tons of discussions on radio and TV, the American football community thinks Meyer is one of the best football coaches in the country.

  21. D's avatar D says:

That Blake Clark guy is in a lot of Sandler movies

  22. D's avatar D says:

Will say this about Meyer, his offense in college has always centered around read option and the one year at Florida he didn’t have a QB capable of running it he tried to ram a round peg into a square hole instead of switching his scheme to fit his talent. Makes me think he doesn’t have but one offensive philosophy, and its one that everyone insists won’t work in the NFL.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You’d know better than me. I’m just going by what I’ve heard about Meyer. He’s considered a Harbaugh level guy.

      • D's avatar D says:

He’s a good coach but he a win over ethics guy. I’d compare him more to belichick, someone he is really friendly with.

My FMU wishes for the new year:
*Ross puts in a workable, sustainable system for this team to follow, one that builds and grows talent and leads to a model the rest of the league will want to follow.
*We here continue to debate and vent out frustrations, without anger or animus towards each other, on the wide variety of topics brought up everyday. None of us agree with each other on everything, but each of us should try to be respectful towards others’ point of view, without the condescension and dismissive tone that sometimes makes an appearance.
    * Some of our old timers pop in for visit once in a while (Convict, Payaso, others too numerous to name), and that we continue to push for new members (uwantwat is the most recent I can think of). This place will die without new blood.

  49. Ken's avatar Ken says:

So who still wants to draft Connor Cook or Paxton Lynch?

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

It wasn’t their fault, it was:
      The o line
      The scheme
      The receivers
      The coaches
      The field
      The weather
      The _________

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I should probably resolve to let THAT go, too. 😞

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I was joking around tongue and cheek, but you could also own what you said previously and not completely ignore it. You seem to have issues with some people here or you wouldn’t have said it in the first place.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I completely own it. I was speaking mostly of my own shortcomings, though a finger pointing forward… 😉

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Some truth that was a discrepancy in talent level in both those games but my point is that no one in this year’s QB class is a sure thing to be better than what we have.

  50. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

ken ken ken, just smh tsk tsk tsk. dont you know any qb is better then what the fins have.

  51. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    try,

nice wishes. i will say this, i think sometimes the condescension and dismissive tone are merely cause we are on a blog and can only read the words but not hear the tone or emotion they are said in. why one should always take what is said here as not personal.

and am i they only one that every time i see the name uwantwat read is u wan twat

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You are correct that tone and emotion get lost in the written word. If you were face to face it would be resolved easily with a simple “I’m just saying man, that’s how I feel.” Want another beer? 🙂

Since I bailed on the Chargers game because I couldn’t take it anymore and we had company over, I missed this. Devante Parker at 2:24 shows you how good this kid is. He displays a good route and catch, quickness and speed, and utilizing his size, strength and physicality. He’s going to be a very good WR, already is. He’s already shown us he’s a playmaker.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

He needs to be more consistent in route running. There are times he just quits on a route but you can see he has the skills to be good at it

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Like most rooks who were late to the party. He missed a lot of time and training. I think it’s about he’s not always sure what he’s suppose to do. The talent is there for sure though. He’s already made a bunch of big plays and he and Landry could be a special combo for years to come.

I also wish some of the old guys would pop in, that would be cool, but I get the feeling those guys are long gone now. Even the once banned and shunned NJ who is now more than free to blog now doesn’t have the time or desire to blog. I think if any one of us took a long break, we’d probably do the same. Maybe not, but possibly.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

You’re probably right. I went away for about a year. But it was to the bigger point- keeping this place alive. If more people leave than come back or we don’t get new blood, this place dies- although I do miss chatting with some of the old guys that have moved on- NMDolphin always comes to mind for me, as well as the other 2 I mentioned.

  61. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Wow, Hickey is being scapegoated and I was wrong on this whole Tannebaum/Hickey relationship. Ross hired Tannebaum to be his point man and run the football team. In typical fashion Tannebaum is going to hire his people which is the way most people feel it should be done whether you like the guy or not. Mr. T will hire his personnel guy and then assist Ross in the HC search. This is actually the new beginning even of you don’t like Tannebbaum being the guy.

Chris Grier was our Director of College Scouting and cut his teeth in NE. We could see a very different approach in how our team is built. I expect it to be more physical. See the Suh signing and drafting Phillips in the 2nd rd.

  62. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Well there is always the old saying “Grass always grows greener over the septic tank”

If they plant the right seeds we should be able to grow an Amazon rain forest with all the turds we have had around!

  63. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well now gear up for the type of coach Tannenbaum will target like him or not, this is our situation. Last year there were rumors he wanted Philbin fired and to hire Dan Quinn a defensive coach. I think we will target a defensive coach who can then hire an OC to get this offense going in a more balanced direction. 64 pass/36 rush is not good. I have no idea what we do on defense other than I see us becoming more physical.

  64. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

Why do you say Hickey is being scapegoated? Did I miss an article?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That was probably not the best way to say it when in reality Tannenbaum is just bringing in his own people. I don’t think Hickey did a bad job though. He took over a tough situation and he’s only had 2 years. But Mr. T likely has a different vision than he. I think we want to become more like Seattle. Play tough, physical defense, run the ball and utilize RT’s skills as a compliment, not as the go through guy. I’ve always said I do not think RT is a 40+ shotgun pocket passer. I think we’re going to see us go in that direction we’ve talked about. 🙂

  66. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  67. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think Hickey did a poor job, but all the reasons we hired him for no longer exist.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Probably or Mr. T just has a different vision. This team lacks physicality, that’s going to change. That’s why Campbell became the interim HC – to start that after a 1-3 start and poor physicality.

  68. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I think the blog does a pretty good job. There was definitely going to be some changes with the split but there’s usually a solid amount of activity from the regulars. It’s a tough time to be a fan of this team and a lot of the sites have went away over the years.

Then you throw in the busy schedules and it’s definitely hard to keep thing up. I respect the hell out of you, Ken, Piggy, herd, etc for all the work you guys do. Maybe Bat, Jahn, and others who have either been busy or just generally dismayed by this team will have opportunities to visit this offseason.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Dynamics change in people’s lives. I don’t worry about who comes here and who doesn’t unless something bad happened to someone. I happen to be on a computer a lot so it’s easy for me to be here. I’m on a computer at work all day and prefer active convo over TV most of the time. I only watch TV when I’m tired and looking to doze off or watching sports. So I am an information and engage freak to a point. Except I’m not a huge FB guy though I am active, but no Twitter. I’m usually listening to talk radio or music when I post.

I come here for fun and similar interests, nothing more.

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

So, there it is in writing from the owner, Tannenbaum will be heading the search. I had hoped that wouldn’t be the case, but it was kind of naive to expect Ross to ditch the guy he just hired to build this team. I honestly don’t have a lot of confidence in Mr. T, but we just all have to hope he can prove us wrong.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep! I’m not his biggest fan but he does have some positive track record too. People seem to forget that and only point out re-signing Sanchez and the way he left the cap. That team was going for it. Rex also failed and has been for awhile now.

  80. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Hang in there man. I’m sure your family understands and is 100% behind you in your undertaking. It’s always tough when family time is compromised by work, but at least you know the business is growing well, so it will all be worth it. Best of continued luck, and hopefully soon, this New year will allow you more family time, and to be prosperous enough to to do what you want to do when you have the time to do it.

I think it’s finally time to part ways with Wake. I can’t see him being anywhere as good as he was, and even when he was healthy, he was never a big part of a meaningful game. Like people say about Tannehill, he disappears in big games, the same could be said for Wake.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s unfortunate and probably the case.

DE (edge guys) heading into 2016 not signed are Fede, D. Moore, Jordan (aka Fuckface) and Chris McCain. We’re not paying Coples $7+M. We need help there and with what could be a bad injury to LB Jaylon Smith, DE could be the pick or the injured LB Myles Jack. Not sure drafting an injured guy in the 1st is the way to go. Just saying! I still like ILB Reggie Ragland but some think 5-8 is too high for him.

Hope you all had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all.
2015 was a family annus horriblis – dad broke his hip back on 1st of Feb, had an infection, had another new hip, broke the other hip, is in a nursing home, his dementia is getting worse and he’ll never walk again. A week before Christmas, mum got her foot snagged in some wire and went down and broke her hip too. I’d just finished building a ramp to try to get dad into the house and home for Christmas lunch and I ended up using if for both of them. Been a non-stop Christmas caring for them both and trying to make what will probably be dad’s last Christmas special. Not looking for sympathy as I know many have been through much worse here. Not even had time to read for 2 weeks but I hope everyone is well and 2016 will be better for all of us and it certainly can’t be worse for the Fins (surely?!?).

  84. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If you look at Cameron, he had one good year. His production this year was consistent with every other season he played with the exception of ’13 when he had 80 catches for 917 and 7 TD’s.

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CameJo00.htm

He’s so far from being a dominant player that can change a game. To me, he’s probably better suited as a 2nd TE, like Zach Miller is to Martellus Bennett.

  85. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, Cameron wasn’t really used. He does show up with some nice plays though. TE was not a staple of our fucked up offense. Please make it go away. I know it will now with Mr. T in charge even if you don’t want him here. We will not run that god awful offense anymore. Hallelujah! LOL

UK – Happy New Year bud! Good to see ya, and sorry about your mum and dad. Best wishes for the both of them, and you as well of course.

I used to put a link to the blog on twitter when I did OD’s articles. The thing is, if you don’t have a lot of followers on twitter, which the blog does not, no one sees it. So, if anyone of you who are active on twitter, feel free to post links to the blog to bring new people in. Post links to the blog on FB. Post links on other Dolphins blogs. I’m open to any other suggestions.

I was not criticizing anyone about the comings and goings here, I was just saying there seems to be a (natural?) attrition rate that will make this blog less active at an ever-increasing rate without new blood. Or worse, it will become the same 5 people with nothing new to say, and that already exists elsewhere.

I didn’t take it in a bad way, I don’t think any of us do. We’d love to grow it some more. Any suggestions are welcome. :

I empathize with you having gone through that in recent years. You will appreciate building that ramp even if it only serves for a short time. It is the fact that you have done all you could for your parents in their declining years. They will appreciate it but you will appreciate it as well.

Maybe there are others from the TryPod clan that want to join in here . . .
