Last game of the season. It turned out a lot different than what we all had hoped for a few short months ago. Even though it won’t matter, I hope they manage to somehow pull off a miracle and win this game. It would make this long off season ahead a little easier.
For those who are observant, you’ll notice the record is wrong, I set this up at the same time as last weeks game. It’s hard to whip up much enthusiasm so I thought I’d go ahead and get it out of the way. We probably lost last week anyway.
Let’s Go Dolphins.

what if Coughlin gets fired? Is he on “the list”?
Should be IMHO…
I think he’s a good coach, but he’s a little long in the tooth for where we are as a franchise.
Come on. After all we’ve been through, 5-7 is enough to convince some of you to keep Campbell?
One win in November, one in December, and one meaningless win in January. That’s what we have to show after the whole rah-rah emotion wore off. The playcalling improved? The effort improved? He’s not qualified. This was a great launching pad for him. Maybe he can get an assistant HC job out there somewhere, or a coordinator job…but seriously, I don’t think there’s any team who would hire him as an OC, so we should hire him as an HC because he got us 5 wins in 12 games?
Thanks Dan Campbell. Go get more experience and apply on our next reset. It’s destined to be soon.
LMFAO! Yeah, no way Campbell deserved to be here next year.
When all else fails we’re always good for a Patriots win…
HOW BOUT THEM FINS!
Every year we get one from them. The rest of the league doesn’t seem to notice, but the Fins give Brady fits.
Mike,
I think he has been up and down over the course of his career on a game by game basis.
When you’re on an 7-9, or 8-8 team (6-10 this year), isn’t that inevitable?
Yep. It think Tannehill’s play emulates the teams play as a whole.
Anyone know where we are drafting?
Thinking after what rgs said, maybe 10th or 11th
New York or Chicago is what I’ve heard
Looks like we are at 8 as of 4pm
With the Rams losing I don’t think we will catch TB and their weaker SOS, so it’s looking like #9 at the moment.
With SF winning, we have moved up ahead them had we lost. But with Dallas and SD both losing we would have picked no higher than #5 or #6 depending on Jacksonville’s final SOS.
Thanks
Correction, based on the SOS as of 8:15 we should be picking #8.
Mia SOS .469
TB SOS .484
Thanks Jahn
I figured as much…
I would be willing to bet that we have the best record against them since the Brady era began?
Thanks rgs – 9 ain’t bad. It’s high enough to get talent, as long as we pick the right guy.
If 9 ain’t bad, 8 is great. lol
I just saw on nfl.com that we are picking at 8
Soooo….had some technical issues after the game with my internet. Is the consensus that we’re happy we won? 😉
Is there sugar in syrup……..then YES!!!!
Ok, from what I can gather by winning today we dropped from picking #5 to picking #8.
I can dig it. That works for me
Here is the current order from NFL.com
1. Tennessee Titans: 3-13 (.492 strength of schedule)
2. Cleveland Browns: 3-13 (.531)
3. San Diego Chargers: 4-12 (.528)
4. Dallas Cowboys: 4-12 (.533)
5. Jacksonville Jaguars: 5-11 (.473)
6. Baltimore Ravens: 5-11 (.508)
7. San Francisco 49ers: 5-11 (.539)
8. Miami Dolphins: 6-10 (.469)
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 6-10 (.484)
10. New York Giants: 6-10 (.498)
11. Chicago Bears: 6-10 (.548)
12. New Orleans Saints: 7-9 (.504)
13. Philadelphia Eagles: 7-9 (.508)
14. Oakland Raiders: 7-9 (.512)
15. St. Louis Rams: 7-9 (.528)
16. Detroit Lions: 7-9 (.536)
17. Atlanta Falcons: 8-8 (.478)
18. Indianapolis Colts: 8-8 (.500)
19. Buffalo Bills: 8-8 (.508)
20. New York Jets: 10-6 (.441)
We had the 2nd weakest SOS of the teams that didn’t make the playoffs. …Jets had the weakest. Lol.
Lets go Vikings!!! You have no idea what it is like living in this delusional, football is everything area.
I will say however, I would not trade living here for anything…because after all there is more to life than football…right?
does that order mean a loss would have given the fins the 5th overall pick
Yes
We would not have gone below Baltimore though right, as we beat them.

then that sucks. and it isnt a matter of just dropping it is matter of the teams that move in front of the fins with the same needs.
but like i said earlier, just like the dolphins to win and fuck up their draft. this organization is nothing but a fuck up
I never argue with a win its not like we are losing out on the next Andrew Luck
It is possible that the top 2 DBs (Ramsey, Hargreaves) and the top 2 OTs (Tunsil, Stanley) are gone by the time we pick at #8. Not to mention the top 2 LBs coming off knee injuries.
There will be other good talent there if that is the case. It’s not like we need only 1 position
So who will be our next HC? It’s not going to be Campbell
I’m probably the only person on this site that’s excited the new and last season of Downton Abbey starts in half an hour. 🙂

well good, cause he isnt all that anyways. but they are losing out on the potential to get the best cb in the draft
Ok so what is there to do for the next 8 months?
The same thing you did for the last 8 months
Internet porn?
Overanalysis of the draft, hire a new head coach…
I know a Pats fan who went to the game today. Supposedly there were “massive fights and tons of ejections” during the end of today’s game. He alluded that this was primarily the Pats fans instigating.
Not surprised
Not at all. Police surrounded their entire section, and just started throwing people out.
Keep in mind that all the Phins Phans know who to text and how to report. And part of home field advantage is not having a visitor jersey on.
Pats fans are generally alright. Cocky for sure, but not bad people. Maybe it was just the section…..but then don’t think I’ve seen how they react after they lose (much as I hate to admit).
I have been to Jet games at the Meadowlands at Pats games in Foxboro and by far Pat fans are far more likely to start shit than Jet fans. Never had a problem at a Jets game. I was down right worried at some Pats games.
Might be part of the home field attitude though…….but wasn’t really trying to stick up for Pats fans that much either. I’ve seen how the Jets ones are though……..by far the worst at Sunlife.
Sorry FFR, I will never…ever pull for the team to lose….I do not understand that thinking….but again..that is just me…
rgs — thanks for the updated info.
At least my draft chart says dropping from #5 to #8 is a good trade with a win against the Pats thrown in………especially if you make Brady look like a deer in headlights.
If it was #10 versus #3 I might not as sure.
bookman
that is fine. just like i will never ever understand the thinking of wanting a meaningless win at the determent of helping the team out in the future.
Because …um…I want them to win when they play and it gives me enjoyment as a fan when they win……its just a game…so I enjoy it when they win.

…The top 2 DEs (Bosa, Buckner) could be gone too.
We need to hope that QB’s get pushed up the board like they always do
Actually, I’m kinda hoping all the QBs fall to # 8 and a team is desperate to move up. I want as many picks in the first 3 rounds as possible. I’m liking Bullard-DE in the 1st and Desmond King-CB in the early 2nd. …followed by Brothers-LB with the next pick. Though I’m sure others will move up my list after the Senior Bowl and the combine.
Bookman
It’s easy if you separate yourself from the team. For instance, if I was playing, I could never lose on purpose, it goes against my natural instinct. I’m not playing, so i wouldn’t have been upset if we lost knowing our draft position would have improved. Knowing now though that it was only 3 spots makes me pretty happy though, and FWIW, I was really happy with the win. I said before the game, if we played very poorly, but somehow eked out a win, i wouldn’t be happy, and that’s not at all what happened today.
Mike,
My outlook during the game is that I want them to win…..I never think about any impacts of that…that is what I wait for each Sunday…to enjoy a win.
I hear you, not trying to change what you do, just explaining my feelings on the matter.
bookman,
i didnt say you shouldnt enjoy them winning. that is all up to you. i just responded to you saying how you could never get something. if you enjoyed the win today more power to you, i would rather have the 5th overall pick.

yeah, but who cares, they got a win today, they have now a wopping 6 wins. yippie
Mike,
Cleveland and SF will likely draft a QB. It would have been nice to have the #5 pick so we could have traded with SF, or taken a QB if we plan to.
You know I don’t think we need to draft a QB, but our new HC might . . .
Exactly.
I was hoping a team would want to move up with us to get a QB, but at #8 that’s less likely.
We better not rush in hiring a HC. What could possibly benefit us by doing that?
Only if we have clear #1 candidate like we did with Jim Harbaugh but I don’t see that out there
You only do that if you know who you want for sure and have competition.
Good for everyone who can piss on a win and cheer for a loss……..the hilarious part is, you have no clue who they would want to draft anyway, and whether that player will be available, or whether they will actually be a bust or not…but it makes more sense as a fan to cheer for a loss…at least I knew when they won today, I would be happy, versus debating what they might do with their new found fortune of having a higher pick…LOL
mike
rumor has it they were going to offer you the job tomorrow till they just read what you said about not being in a hurry
“The Cleveland Browns fired head coach Mike Pettine and General Manager Ray Farmer on Sunday.”
My first thought is that we have to look better than them, but then if you go into a rebuild situation you can have pretty much three years of job security up front.
LOL Rob – Rats!
I dont see Goff or Lynch making it past 8 but if they do, we might get some more picks. The top 2 DEs, LBs, OTs, and CBs cant possibly get past us at 8 so Im not the least bit worried. One of the benefits of having multiple holes on our team.
As for LBs, Jaylon Smith and Myles Jack are both coming off knee injuries. I wouldn’t draft either in the top 10, but that’s just me.
Stanger
That’s the thing. I don’t know why they know who they want NOW, when there are so many good candidates that they can’t interview yet. That scares the heck out of me.
I think you’ll get it just like you want. Main reason is cause I think Tannenbaum is now full head of the front office (and probably was before). That means no huge name with total control. Also means interviews with the young guns.

Not sure what you mean by “Get it just like I want it”. I want them to interview Hue Jackson and Mike Shula, and if they hire someone before they can interview those guys, i won’t be pleased.
Was just saying I think they’ll do the full interview process and won’t jump quick. Only reason I could see that happening is if a big name comes in, and don’t see that happening.
Ah, ok

Good night everyone…I have to be up early( 5:00am) after a week off of work.
Alright back to work for me tomorrow and starting trial on Tuesday so I am turning in. Peace
OMG, Aaron Rodgers has only led his team to 3 points in the 1st half and had 20 yards passing in the 1st half last week. Looks like he can’t carry a team either.
His passes are off, he’s getting hit. GB should bench him & start looking for a new QB.
Come on man….
LOL, my point is that without decent OL play & receivers getting open, all QB’s are susceptible no matter who they are.
I think this is a good comparison, GDP. Rodgers has looked bad at times this season because of the team around him, yet even with all that is wrong with the Packers, Rodgers still got them in the playoffs. A good QB can do that for you.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000615705/article/haslam-confirms-manziel-was-a-noshow-on-sunday
———————–
At least we aren’t the browns
I see both Goff and Lynch gone really early.
Mike I don’t think we should rush it but with so many replacing theirs, Tenn, sf, browns, etc, we gotta be Johnny on the spot interviewing and getting our best guy signed
Kong, when Rodgers was getting them to the playoffs early on to start the season they were what 6-0? Anyhow, the team around him was playing well. The OL was mostly intact.
Then the injuries and poor play on both sides of the ball started happening and Rodgers hasn’t carried them.
They’re backing into the playoffs now having gone 4-6 in their last 10 since their bye week.
Every team deals with these things and has streaks, and healthy stretches. Would Tanny have gone 6-0 during that stretch? Don’t know, he’s never won 6 in a row, I doubt he would have, but Rogers did. Point is if you want to compare Tanny to Rodgers are you really going to do it one game at a time? Why not one play at a time? It’s just an absurd comparison that doesn’t invalidate any of the concerns over Tanny’s game.
Lol, sorry, bro, I shouldn’t have even engaged. This is a stupid argument that has been played out with lines drawn and sides taken, and I know you’re just making extreme comparisons as more of a joke in attempting to make a point than actually comparing Tanny to Rodgers.
D
I agree we should interview all the candidates and then make a quick decision. Point is, we have to interview ALL the candidates., meaning guys that are in the playoffs too, Hue Jackson, Darrell Bevell, Mike Shula, Josh McDaniels etc. Why hire before you interview those guys?
So I see we are interviewing the Lions DC, Teryl Austin Wednesday and Adam Gase on Thursday. I have to wonder if Gase is their man, and they are interviewing Austin simply to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

LOL if that happens
They should interview him. M13 will lose his mind. LOL
I can see the Browns and 49ers both taking a QB before we pick
and I think there is a shot 1-2 OL go before we pick
And possible 1-2 skill position player
we should have a good choice of defensive player
I don’t really think picking 5 vs 8 would have made a huge difference
we will see the way t shapes up when we get closer to the draft
but right now I don’t see a lot of players separating themselves as bona fide top 5 guys
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP 1m1 minute ago
So that’s 5 names so far reportedly being interviewed by #Dolphins — Shanahan, Austin, Gase, Marrone, Campbell http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2016/01/04/dolphins-have-interviews-lined-up-with-teryl-austin-adam-gase/ …
Austin is the Lions coordinator and was the DC for the Lions last year with suh when they were #1 in the NFL
I’m kind of intrigued by Doug Marrone
He has HC experience which Is good
Did a moderately good job with the Bills (15-17 record)
And is doing a good job with Jax
but he could not beat the Patriots when he coached the Bills…so big problem there
Yeah he’s a solid candidate. I saw something about him as HC with Schwartz as DC.

I wonder if Ross will ask Mike Shanahan if there is anyway you can lose the rat look? LOL
I’d be ok with it if that rat could eat the face off BB & Marsha.
Morning gents. Feels good on a Monday for a change…..fresh off a Pastie beat down!
Yeah but we lost one draft spot. The future of this org was lost with that one win. LOL
I’m not a fan of any of the people on this list. Marrone could be interesting is Schwartz is the DC. Why aren’t they interviewing anyone from the teams in the playoffs. I wonder if they’re waiting on that.
There is no rush to hire a HC IMO. Take your time and make the correct choice.
I’m not sure coaches in the playoffs have the time to interview right now. But no reason for us not to get started. Starting interviews now does not mean they’re rushing it and they’ll just pick a name out of a hat. LOL
I think you basically have to wait until a team’s postseason is over for an assistant to really spend time with the interview
I’m okay waiting a little bit
But I do prefer we hire some one who has been a HC before instead of the next hot coordinator
Once upon a time Cam Cameron was the next hot coordinator
Yeah but a lot of first time HCs who were coordinators do pan out. I want experience too, but for every bad first time HC there is a successful one.
I don’t know who the FO will tag as the next HC, but my greatest wish (when it comes to football) is that WHOMEVER gets the job is successful and is here for 10-15 years. I am so sick of the carousel every 3-4 years. Rinse Repeat, Rinse Repeat.
I am not confident or hopeful that this will occur. T-bum is in charge…..
10-15 years is very rare.
I know. Bellicheat is one of the few. (one losing season, his first with the team.
Why aren’t they interviewing anyone from the teams in the playoffs. I wonder if they’re waiting on that.
Boulder, the coaches in the playoffs have jobs right now so you have to ask permission from their current teams to interview. Most teams who are thinking about NEXT week’s game will decline the allow their coaches to interview. (no distractions until after the playoffs)
But I do prefer we hire some one who has been a HC before instead of the next hot coordinator
Piggy I do not necessarily disagree with you. I am only pointing this out for discussions sake. Anybody who has been a HC before has a record of “failure” while the next “hot coordinator” has not failed…..Yet.
True, then you got guys like Andy Reid, failed in Philly down the stretch, but now doing well in KC.
I’m almost certain Tbaum & Ross already know who they want, and they almost have to.
Cause if they’re truly waiting like there’s no hurry then they could lose out. Lots of HC vacancies opening up today across the league.
Other teams may be quick to get their guy inked.
Rumors of Sean Payton already surfacing for San Fran. His daughter is attending Pepperdine.
Other candidates have set up interviews as well.
So it makes ya wonder who Tbomb really has in mind. Likely 1-2 guys are his main target for now….IMO.
He has his second interview set up with Shenanigans, but I think he is leaning toward Gase. Just my Gut feeling.
rock,
I understand that. I just hope we wait and interview some of the coaches that are playing right now. I would like them to at least interview hue jackson and bevell from seattle.
I also like mcdermott from carolina.
Soooo, I’ve been reading reactions here for a few days on different potential coaches. I don’t think there has been a single name mentioned thus far that at least one person doesn’t have a problem with. lol
For me, it’s Mangini. Yuck!
it is being reported that HE IS NOT being considered. (by the Herald) if so THANK GOD! I cannot stand the Mangina.
Yep! This guy sucks and that guys sucks even though we really have no idea what their makeup is. LOL
LOL, he’s got past ties to Tbaum.
Also, it is the nature of this blog for SOMEONE to have a problem with ANYONE discussed. LOL If a young Don Shula (the real one) Somehow went through a time machine and came in to the FO at 45 years old and said, “Hey, I’m Back” there would be some on here screaming it is a terrible idea! LOL
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 17m17 minutes ago
Tom Brady underwent MRI on ankle that revealed a sprain but no breaks, no fractures, per league source. Expected to be ready for playoffs.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports an MRI revealed Tom Brady suffered only a sprain to his right ankle Week 17 against the Dolphins.
Brady escaped without suffering any fractures. Schefter reports he should be good to go after the first-round bye. Brady took a beating against Miami despite attempting just 21 passes. The Patriots need the offensive line and Julian Edelman to get healthy over the break.
GD, good point about losing out on the HC we really like. There are a lot of coaching vacancies this year. Also just because some assistant coach is on a playoff team does not mean they’re head coaching candidates.
Sean McDermott scares me. His defenses failed in Philly, and have been giving up a lot of points and yards as of late, prior to the Bucs game. Plus Ron Rivera likely oversees & has his stamp on the Panthers defense.
I’d look elsewhere.
mike shanahan would be the worst one. I live in denver. I know what he brings to the table. nada.
Did the Denver fans love or hate him?
He did win them a Super Bowl or 2 didn’t he
8 winning seasons in 14 years, 7 playoffs and only one losing season. Fans are very hard to please. LOL
Herd
I have not heard one person think Mangini is a good idea….lol
seems like everyone hates that choice
It doesn’t look like it will happen
Oh yeah, Brandon Marshall still has never made the playoffs. LOL
Isn’t that something. They were right on the cusp too. I hope it holds up his whole career. Will make good blog fodder for years afterwards. 😉
Besides Mora Jr. being known as a hot head, he brings a 3-4 D, uses a lot of nickel stuff in the spread & pass happy Pac !2, which the NFL has become these days. He also has prior NFL HC experience that ended bitterly.
He might want to redeem himself and have a better outlook this time around knowing he can’t get by just on his daddy’s name anymore.
I’d expect him to have more class if he chooses the NFL again.
I don’t remember him being classless when he was with the Falcons.
Just remember when looking at a coaches results, you have to know what the personnel was on those teams. People in the NFL know who good coaches are, fans go by stats. Just saying! Why did the Pats hire Belichick based off his results in CLE?
Cause Tuna just burnt them & they were desperate….lol. Sound familiar? 😉
They actually burnt the Tuna by taking away personnel control, then Belichick burnt the Tuna and the Jets during the night. So there was a lot of blackened tuna going on. LOL
The Tuna!
I really don’t care who they hire….I just want to see our current Offense get scrapped. Besides, who is going to want the job now that we won yesterday and dropped all the way down to pick #8?
LMAO!!!!
we need to hire some one who is willing to lose every game in 2016 to get the #1 pick in 2017

plus he has that crazy jaw…
LOL! he didn’t know how to draft and couldn’t get a defense or running game going the whole time Marino was here! LOL
I think playoff coordinators can interview on their bye week
Whats the problem with Shannahan, seems alright to me
He couldn’t win with “the great RGIII” LOL
plus it was a circus in DC under his watch.
He never wanted RGIII, he wanted Tannehill. 🙂
The owner in WAS creates the circus there. Shanahan’s offense is actually exactly the offense that fits RT. It’s the Kubiak system that he took from Shanahan.
Whoever we hire as a HC I want him and his staff to focus on fundamentals, being physical and calling a game that makes sense, not trying to be cute. Sure you can pull something out of your hat here and there, but you do that when you’re playing well and then throw in a wrinkle to break the opponent. You don’t run a double reverse flea-flicker when you have 3 points and haven’t converted a 3rd down into the 3rd quarter. LOL
Oh, I pine for the day of 3 yrds and a cloud of dust…..
why isn’t sparano on the list of candidates LOL
Hewitt is gonna give jenkins a run for his money for the starting job next year.
We can hope so! I like that we have two young guys who look like they can compete. Hewitt was all over the field yesterday. He only had 4 tackles and 2 assists but it did seem like much more. Also he kept Gronk from catching ANYTHING while he was on him. When is the last time you saw a LB shut out Gronk?
he played great. He wants to be a starter next year. you can just tell.
Naw, he should just be on the other side opposite Jenkins. Draft a man in the middle.
He’s gonna be in the mix for sure and that’s a good thing. I was really impressed with some of the youngsters yesterday.
Mike Shanahan ran the hell out of the ball with Terrell Davis & finally got 2 Rings for an aging Elway.
Lord knows we need to run the ball here. He’d love guys like Miller & Ajayi…and Tanny, a big mobile QB in the mold of ol Bucky….lol
LOL Ross is pretty clueless. from hyde
. Quote of the day: “You look at the organization today, in every aspect except playing on the field, its one of the top and best organizations.” – Dolphins owner Steve Ross. Yeah. Except for that one area.
Sun Life was rockin the orange shag carpet….bow chicka bow chicka bow.
I dont see clueless, i think its an honest statement, unfortunately, but i do think he seems committed to keep pressing the issue until that one area gets changed.
I think if there were a magic wand fix for this issue, Ross would have already paid just about anything an gotten it.

I think we are on the same page for once, i want thorough but expedient, same as you.
Shanahan would be able to keep the zone block run scheme intact and make Tannehill a better QB. Fantasy stats would be good but overall I think we’ll be firing him again in a few years even after making the playoffs once. He wouldn’t be awful but I don’t think he’s the guy to return this team to former glory.
That would be a job for a Shula, Mike that is. 😉

I am excited to see Tony Lippett next year too (after a whole off season working on being a DB. 6-3 with ball skills. I hope he develops and takes one of the starting spots next to our first round rookie next year.
Lippett would be one of those great acorns that became a mighty oak in the NFL. I hope we hit on a couple of those guys to offset the blunders of DT3 & Dion FF.
Richard Sherman and Josh Norman were both 5th rd picks. You don’t have to take DBs high unless there is a special talent available,
Actually Shanhan made RG3 work pretty well
he went to the playoffs in his rookie year
then the next couple of years there were issues
It was Gruden who refused to work with RG3 – and it worked out really well for Gruden
right now Cousins is playing lights out
Tim, I didn’t know that Shanahan wanted Tannehill?
That is an interesting tid bit
That might work out well
I think Tanny reminds him of a young Elway. I’ve mentioned this before. Maybe Shanny thinks he can reproduce magic.
There’s a lot of articles out there about it.
