Game Day – Patriots @ Dolphins

Capture

Last game of the season.  It turned out a lot different than what we all had hoped for a few short months ago.  Even though it won’t matter, I hope they manage to somehow pull off a miracle and win this game.  It would make this long off season ahead a little easier.

For those who are observant, you’ll notice the record is wrong, I set this up at the same time as last weeks game.  It’s hard to whip up much enthusiasm so I thought I’d go ahead and get it out of the way.  We probably lost last week anyway.

Let’s Go Dolphins.

Come on. After all we’ve been through, 5-7 is enough to convince some of you to keep Campbell?

One win in November, one in December, and one meaningless win in January. That’s what we have to show after the whole rah-rah emotion wore off. The playcalling improved? The effort improved? He’s not qualified. This was a great launching pad for him. Maybe he can get an assistant HC job out there somewhere, or a coordinator job…but seriously, I don’t think there’s any team who would hire him as an OC, so we should hire him as an HC because he got us 5 wins in 12 games?

Thanks Dan Campbell. Go get more experience and apply on our next reset. It’s destined to be soon.

then that sucks. and it isnt a matter of just dropping it is matter of the teams that move in front of the fins with the same needs.

but like i said earlier, just like the dolphins to win and fuck up their draft. this organization is nothing but a fuck up

I know a Pats fan who went to the game today. Supposedly there were “massive fights and tons of ejections” during the end of today’s game. He alluded that this was primarily the Pats fans instigating.

Pats fans are generally alright. Cocky for sure, but not bad people. Maybe it was just the section…..but then don’t think I’ve seen how they react after they lose (much as I hate to admit).

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I have been to Jet games at the Meadowlands at Pats games in Foxboro and by far Pat fans are far more likely to start shit than Jet fans. Never had a problem at a Jets game. I was down right worried at some Pats games.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Might be part of the home field attitude though…….but wasn’t really trying to stick up for Pats fans that much either. I’ve seen how the Jets ones are though……..by far the worst at Sunlife.

At least my draft chart says dropping from #5 to #8 is a good trade with a win against the Pats thrown in………especially if you make Brady look like a deer in headlights.

  22. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

Actually, I’m kinda hoping all the QBs fall to # 8 and a team is desperate to move up. I want as many picks in the first 3 rounds as possible. I’m liking Bullard-DE in the 1st and Desmond King-CB in the early 2nd. …followed by Brothers-LB with the next pick. Though I’m sure others will move up my list after the Senior Bowl and the combine.

  26. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Bookman

It’s easy if you separate yourself from the team. For instance, if I was playing, I could never lose on purpose, it goes against my natural instinct. I’m not playing, so i wouldn’t have been upset if we lost knowing our draft position would have improved. Knowing now though that it was only 3 spots makes me pretty happy though, and FWIW, I was really happy with the win. I said before the game, if we played very poorly, but somehow eked out a win, i wouldn’t be happy, and that’s not at all what happened today.

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Cleveland and SF will likely draft a QB. It would have been nice to have the #5 pick so we could have traded with SF, or taken a QB if we plan to.

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We better not rush in hiring a HC. What could possibly benefit us by doing that?

  33. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Good for everyone who can piss on a win and cheer for a loss……..the hilarious part is, you have no clue who they would want to draft anyway, and whether that player will be available, or whether they will actually be a bust or not…but it makes more sense as a fan to cheer for a loss…at least I knew when they won today, I would be happy, versus debating what they might do with their new found fortune of having a higher pick…LOL

I dont see Goff or Lynch making it past 8 but if they do, we might get some more picks. The top 2 DEs, LBs, OTs, and CBs cant possibly get past us at 8 so Im not the least bit worried. One of the benefits of having multiple holes on our team.

    • rgs322's avatar rgs322 says:

I think you’ll get it just like you want. Main reason is cause I think Tannenbaum is now full head of the front office (and probably was before). That means no huge name with total control. Also means interviews with the young guns.

OMG, Aaron Rodgers has only led his team to 3 points in the 1st half and had 20 yards passing in the 1st half last week. Looks like he can’t carry a team either.
His passes are off, he’s getting hit. GB should bench him & start looking for a new QB.

    • D's avatar D says:

      Come on man….

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

LOL, my point is that without decent OL play & receivers getting open, all QB’s are susceptible no matter who they are.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think this is a good comparison, GDP. Rodgers has looked bad at times this season because of the team around him, yet even with all that is wrong with the Packers, Rodgers still got them in the playoffs. A good QB can do that for you.

  50. D's avatar D says:

Mike I don’t think we should rush it but with so many replacing theirs, Tenn, sf, browns, etc, we gotta be Johnny on the spot interviewing and getting our best guy signed

  51. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Kong, when Rodgers was getting them to the playoffs early on to start the season they were what 6-0? Anyhow, the team around him was playing well. The OL was mostly intact.
Then the injuries and poor play on both sides of the ball started happening and Rodgers hasn’t carried them.
They’re backing into the playoffs now having gone 4-6 in their last 10 since their bye week.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Every team deals with these things and has streaks, and healthy stretches. Would Tanny have gone 6-0 during that stretch? Don’t know, he’s never won 6 in a row, I doubt he would have, but Rogers did. Point is if you want to compare Tanny to Rodgers are you really going to do it one game at a time? Why not one play at a time? It’s just an absurd comparison that doesn’t invalidate any of the concerns over Tanny’s game.

Lol, sorry, bro, I shouldn’t have even engaged. This is a stupid argument that has been played out with lines drawn and sides taken, and I know you’re just making extreme comparisons as more of a joke in attempting to make a point than actually comparing Tanny to Rodgers.

  52. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

I agree we should interview all the candidates and then make a quick decision. Point is, we have to interview ALL the candidates., meaning guys that are in the playoffs too, Hue Jackson, Darrell Bevell, Mike Shula, Josh McDaniels etc. Why hire before you interview those guys?

I don’t really think picking 5 vs 8 would have made a huge difference

I’m not a fan of any of the people on this list. Marrone could be interesting is Schwartz is the DC. Why aren’t they interviewing anyone from the teams in the playoffs. I wonder if they’re waiting on that.

There is no rush to hire a HC IMO. Take your time and make the correct choice.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not sure coaches in the playoffs have the time to interview right now. But no reason for us not to get started. Starting interviews now does not mean they’re rushing it and they’ll just pick a name out of a hat. LOL

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think you basically have to wait until a team’s postseason is over for an assistant to really spend time with the interview

I’m okay waiting a little bit

But I do prefer we hire some one who has been a HC before instead of the next hot coordinator

Once upon a time Cam Cameron was the next hot coordinator

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah but a lot of first time HCs who were coordinators do pan out. I want experience too, but for every bad first time HC there is a successful one.

  69. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t know who the FO will tag as the next HC, but my greatest wish (when it comes to football) is that WHOMEVER gets the job is successful and is here for 10-15 years. I am so sick of the carousel every 3-4 years. Rinse Repeat, Rinse Repeat.

I am not confident or hopeful that this will occur. T-bum is in charge…..

  70. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Why aren’t they interviewing anyone from the teams in the playoffs. I wonder if they’re waiting on that.

Boulder, the coaches in the playoffs have jobs right now so you have to ask permission from their current teams to interview. Most teams who are thinking about NEXT week’s game will decline the allow their coaches to interview. (no distractions until after the playoffs)

  71. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

But I do prefer we hire some one who has been a HC before instead of the next hot coordinator

Piggy I do not necessarily disagree with you. I am only pointing this out for discussions sake. Anybody who has been a HC before has a record of “failure” while the next “hot coordinator” has not failed…..Yet.

  72. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I’m almost certain Tbaum & Ross already know who they want, and they almost have to.
Cause if they’re truly waiting like there’s no hurry then they could lose out. Lots of HC vacancies opening up today across the league.
Other teams may be quick to get their guy inked.
Rumors of Sean Payton already surfacing for San Fran. His daughter is attending Pepperdine.
Other candidates have set up interviews as well.

So it makes ya wonder who Tbomb really has in mind. Likely 1-2 guys are his main target for now….IMO.

  73. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    rock,
I understand that. I just hope we wait and interview some of the coaches that are playing right now. I would like them to at least interview hue jackson and bevell from seattle.

LOL

Tom Brady underwent MRI on ankle that revealed a sprain but no breaks, no fractures, per league source. Expected to be ready for playoffs.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports an MRI revealed Tom Brady suffered only a sprain to his right ankle Week 17 against the Dolphins.
Brady escaped without suffering any fractures. Schefter reports he should be good to go after the first-round bye. Brady took a beating against Miami despite attempting just 21 passes. The Patriots need the offensive line and Julian Edelman to get healthy over the break.

GD, good point about losing out on the HC we really like. There are a lot of coaching vacancies this year. Also just because some assistant coach is on a playoff team does not mean they’re head coaching candidates.

  77. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Sean McDermott scares me. His defenses failed in Philly, and have been giving up a lot of points and yards as of late, prior to the Bucs game. Plus Ron Rivera likely oversees & has his stamp on the Panthers defense.
    I’d look elsewhere.

Oh yeah, Brandon Marshall still has never made the playoffs. LOL

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Isn’t that something. They were right on the cusp too. I hope it holds up his whole career. Will make good blog fodder for years afterwards. 😉

  81. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Besides Mora Jr. being known as a hot head, he brings a 3-4 D, uses a lot of nickel stuff in the spread & pass happy Pac !2, which the NFL has become these days. He also has prior NFL HC experience that ended bitterly.
He might want to redeem himself and have a better outlook this time around knowing he can’t get by just on his daddy’s name anymore.
I’d expect him to have more class if he chooses the NFL again.

  82. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Just remember when looking at a coaches results, you have to know what the personnel was on those teams. People in the NFL know who good coaches are, fans go by stats. Just saying! Why did the Pats hire Belichick based off his results in CLE?

  83. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

I really don’t care who they hire….I just want to see our current Offense get scrapped. Besides, who is going to want the job now that we won yesterday and dropped all the way down to pick #8?

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

He couldn’t win with “the great RGIII” LOL

plus it was a circus in DC under his watch.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He never wanted RGIII, he wanted Tannehill. 🙂

The owner in WAS creates the circus there. Shanahan’s offense is actually exactly the offense that fits RT. It’s the Kubiak system that he took from Shanahan.

  87. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Whoever we hire as a HC I want him and his staff to focus on fundamentals, being physical and calling a game that makes sense, not trying to be cute. Sure you can pull something out of your hat here and there, but you do that when you’re playing well and then throw in a wrinkle to break the opponent. You don’t run a double reverse flea-flicker when you have 3 points and haven’t converted a 3rd down into the 3rd quarter. LOL

Hewitt is gonna give jenkins a run for his money for the starting job next year.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

We can hope so! I like that we have two young guys who look like they can compete. Hewitt was all over the field yesterday. He only had 4 tackles and 2 assists but it did seem like much more. Also he kept Gronk from catching ANYTHING while he was on him. When is the last time you saw a LB shut out Gronk?

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Naw, he should just be on the other side opposite Jenkins. Draft a man in the middle.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s gonna be in the mix for sure and that’s a good thing. I was really impressed with some of the youngsters yesterday.

  90. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Mike Shanahan ran the hell out of the ball with Terrell Davis & finally got 2 Rings for an aging Elway.
Lord knows we need to run the ball here. He’d love guys like Miller & Ajayi…and Tanny, a big mobile QB in the mold of ol Bucky….lol

  91. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

LOL Ross is pretty clueless. from hyde

. Quote of the day: “You look at the organization today, in every aspect except playing on the field, its one of the top and best organizations.” – Dolphins owner Steve Ross. Yeah. Except for that one area.

    —————————————–
I think we are on the same page for once, i want thorough but expedient, same as you.

  93. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Shanahan would be able to keep the zone block run scheme intact and make Tannehill a better QB. Fantasy stats would be good but overall I think we’ll be firing him again in a few years even after making the playoffs once. He wouldn’t be awful but I don’t think he’s the guy to return this team to former glory.

He’s gonna be in the mix for sure and that’s a good thing. I was really impressed with some of the youngsters yesterday.

I am excited to see Tony Lippett next year too (after a whole off season working on being a DB. 6-3 with ball skills. I hope he develops and takes one of the starting spots next to our first round rookie next year.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Lippett would be one of those great acorns that became a mighty oak in the NFL. I hope we hit on a couple of those guys to offset the blunders of DT3 & Dion FF.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Richard Sherman and Josh Norman were both 5th rd picks. You don’t have to take DBs high unless there is a special talent available,

  95. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Actually Shanhan made RG3 work pretty well
he went to the playoffs in his rookie year

then the next couple of years there were issues

It was Gruden who refused to work with RG3 – and it worked out really well for Gruden
right now Cousins is playing lights out

Tim, I didn’t know that Shanahan wanted Tannehill?
That is an interesting tid bit

    That might work out well
