Tom Coughlin

Tom Coughlin for President?

Hue Jackson

Hue Jackson – Right on brother!

Sean Payton for a 2nd RD pick? Mike Shanahan? Adam Gase? Tom Coughlin? Dan Campbell? Bill Belichick for Suh, Landry, Parker and Tannehill? Hue Jackson? Mike Shula? Teryl Austin? Mike Smith?

Who will be the next head Coach of the Miami Dolphins?

Out of all the options above, and there are sure to be other options in the near future, I actually have 2 favorites from that bunch.

If we’re going with the short term stopgap, and a HC who will give us respectability immediately, and as part of the package, grooms our next HC in Dan Campbell, I’m all for Tom Coughlin. Coughlin is a well respected HC and person in the NFL. Once a fierce disciplinarian type coach, being a military man, Coughlin was a no nonsense man. As HC of the NYG, he felt like he was losing his team, and changed his approach to a more friendlier relationship with his players, and the team responded and went to the Super Bowl and won. Is 70 years old too old? I say hell no! I’ve seen great managers in baseball like Jim Leyland, Jack McKeon succeed in their 70’s, and heck, Ronald Reagan was 70 when he was elected President, and he did a fantastic job running our country.

I like Dan Campbell, but I just don’t think he’s ready to run a team yet. Too many things he’s deficient in, but what a truly great guy to learn from Tom Coughlin would be. A true professional, a winner. Of course, nothing has been documented that Coughlin and or Cambell would agree to this set up, but it seems legitimate to me, and I like it.

If we’re looking for a long term (hopefully), I like Hue Jackson. (I would like Mike Shula too, but as so far, he hasn’t been mentioned as a coach we’re interested in) Jackson wasn’t given a fair shot with the Raiders, he went 8-8, and was fired. Incidentally, Hue’s OC in OAK was Al Saunders, the guy we brought in to “help” our offense after Philbin was fired. Jackson has done good things as OC for the Bengals. Dalton is playing his best football of his career this year, and most believe that is credit due to Hue Jackson. Bengals fans are actually crying for Dalton to play in the playoffs when they clearly all know Dalton is 0-4 in the playoffs.

  • Friday January 8th Update! *

Yesterday, the Dolphins interviewed Bears Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase.  Supposedly it was a long, thorough interview.  That means this week, the Dolphins have interviewed Mike Shanahan, Mike Smith, Teryl Austin and Anthony Lynn.  Dan Campbell will make his case today, and Doug Marrone and Hue Jackson will follow this weekend.

LOL @ FFR trying to minimize Tbomb’s penchant for control & power.

  2. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    tim,

it is funny how people act like he makes dumb decisions on purpose so he can have more control. kind of like when the economy is shit and everyone wants to blame the president. like he is doing it on purpose to get re-elected

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

      He did get re-elected….LOL

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I wonder what fans and media thought about the hirings of Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton with 3 years of OC experience at 42 years of age. I know McCarthy took a lot of shit for going with Rodgers and moving on from Favre. Then Payton stole Brees from us and both went on to win Super Bowls.

I know, I know, Gase/Tannehill are no Payton/Brees, McCarthy/Rodgers, but you know what, they weren’t then either. Just saying. That’s the positive way of looking at it. It’s easy to predict doom and gloom. None of us know how this will work out. It could be great, okay or a disaster. Gee… which one would I rather hope for being that’s all we have? LOL

  3. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

GD, plenty of fans and media make Tannenbaum look as bad as possible with all kinds of speculation and theories. It’s not that complicated what the power structure is if you drop the bias and negative agenda. That’s all it is and it’s obvious.

  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

you can deny it all you want. give us all your lame excuses. but every time any of us accidentally runs over a squirrel we all secretly think. ‘i bet tim is proud of me’

i wasnt talking about him more so about a discussion i had with my kids back in the day about bush.

and i am not minimizing t baum. unlike most of you guys i am never in any of the meetings between him and ross where he tells ross how he is going to take total control. i am just laughing at the comments where he is like purposely hiring failures to give him more control. i am sure when the fins are 1-15 tbaum can just tell ross ‘yeah we suck, but look, i have all the control’

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Somewhere there were fans and media saying the same thing about Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton. Their career paths are very similar to Adam Gase except Gase is 5 years ahead of them age-wise with the same resume for the most part. Rodgers and Brees were not elite QBs yet either. I think those scenarios were part of this process. Has it ever been done before? Yes, here it is.

Hope for the best, bro. That’s all we have. 🙂

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not predicting anything. Just sharing some info. and similarities of our new HC dynamics. Until I see a good team on the field all I will do is discuss potential. We’re grizzled fans in this area. Hope for the best, brace for the worst and react to failure. LOL

I don’t approach anything with dire results as the focus. That’s how I’m wired. I have no idea how this new regime will pan out. But why shit on it before a game is played. We have the #8 pick and some core players. Let’s hope we get it right.

You should be happy for your boy Tannehill because Gase should be good for him.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

what the heck does this mean?
“Notice how Manning hammered home Gase’s work ethic? Some statements are more sincere than others. “

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Peyton is a tireless worker, so is Eli. It was instilled in them from papa Manning.

“He’ll be an excellent coach without a doubt. He is ready for this for sure.”

Peyton was an advocate for Gase when the Broncos fired Fox. Gase seems to have been loyal to Fox though.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

        Yeah.
What the heck does the statement I quoted mean?

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Lol, I guess it was just a poor way to say Manning wasn’t just blowing smoke when talking about Gase? If so, it was an awkward phrasing.

  15. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Brian Hoyer flippin’ sucks.

  17. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tim, I know. All good stuff. We’ve shared some nice info on Gase. He’s our HC for the next 3yrs min & Tanny likely the next 2min.
So, yes lets support them. Anything can & will happen. 😀

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      It’s all we have. Let’s hope Grier/Gase rock!!!! 🙂

LOL @ Tanny the next 2min. Like you, I think Ryan can go to another level. Let’s hope Gase helps him get there with an offense that makes some fuckin sense and repair that damn OL.

I hope Gase pounds the table to re-sign Miller once he starts watching film. Miller/Ajayi, Landry and Parker along with Tannefill is a nice core. Albert, James and Pouncey as well.

  18. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Kong, yes, Hoyer makes horrible decisions under duress. Put Weeden in….sheesh.

yeah and so does his passing. but is tumble and role is on point.

  21. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Gase has to get Miller to resign. He’s got to promise him he’ll be a larger part of the offense he runs.
We can win with Miller giving Tanny a running game, a real running game.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Of course they want to resign Miller, but they have to find money first, and I think OV is more of a priority. NOW, if we can only get some of those great Bears players to come with him 😉

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Money can be found/created. But we’ll see if he’s a priority.
I’d sign Miller asap before other offers come in…..and wait n see with OV.

  22. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
How upset was Dan Campbell after he found out he wasn’t the guy? Team is going to “give hime a couple of days” before contacting him again

    Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
And, by the way, Dan Campbell had a “great” interview, team source tells me.

    Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
So for those keeping score at home, this is how Dolphins HC sweepstakes finished: 1. Gase. 2. Campbell. 3. Marrone.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If that’s the order, we did great signing Gase, because the other 2 would’ve been disaster.

Campbell would be a good keep, but at what coaching position? He’s not a coordinator.

  23. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That last int wasn’t Hoyer’s fault, Washington quit on the play, but yeah I agree he sucks.

  24. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Just want to take a moment to say, a lot of us have gone through some tough times with illness and loss the last year or so. I’ve changed as a person because of it. At 50 years old I often wonder what is it we’re doing – working to make a living so we can enjoy this great thing called life the best we can, so we can then all say goodbye? It’s a tough experience but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I would much rather have been than not to have been. Got a chance to ‘be’ and ‘live’ and experience amazing things.

One day we’ll all be gone and be a part of history like so many others. Enjoy it!

Peace & Love to all of you.

  25. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Serious question: If you’re Adam Gase, do you keep Dan Campbell former TEs coach and interim HC, who is loved by a lot of players that could create a mutiny? I would not retain him.

so a qb that in an entire year cant throw a td to a wr turned the team around. has nothing to do with the coaching, maybe the best rb in football (i know he is hurt now) or a top ranked defense.

i am just going to ignore all that so i can say something incredibly stupid and make ffr want me to die even more

  43. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

  46. D's avatar D says:

Yeah I said it before. I want so stuck on them getting a specific guy as I was THEIR guy, their to choice instead of the past selections where they seemed to take what they were left with. If you want to be in the playoffs 2 out of every 5 yrs and win nothing you hire a retread coach like Shanahan, if you want to win an SB or bust you hire the hot new coordinator, we’ll see what happens, but how he gets RT to play will define him.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

  69. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

and yeah ken it is, with all the needs on this team, dont waste a pick on some back up qb. get depth at more positions

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

My feeling is that it is always a good idea to draft a QB every few years to develop as a back up and or trade commodity. Packers have routinely done that over the years and have benefitted greatly by doing that

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

How so, have the Packers benefitted greatly? They waste a pick on a late round QB, then trade him 3 yrs later for 2 rounds higher than where they took him, why not just trade the pick for next yrs one round earlier pick? Then do the same thing 2 more yrs and you’d be ahead of the game, but even then why do you want to wait 3 yrs to get anything out of a current pick?
