Sean Payton for a 2nd RD pick? Mike Shanahan? Adam Gase? Tom Coughlin? Dan Campbell? Bill Belichick for Suh, Landry, Parker and Tannehill? Hue Jackson? Mike Shula? Teryl Austin? Mike Smith?
Who will be the next head Coach of the Miami Dolphins?
Out of all the options above, and there are sure to be other options in the near future, I actually have 2 favorites from that bunch.
If we’re going with the short term stopgap, and a HC who will give us respectability immediately, and as part of the package, grooms our next HC in Dan Campbell, I’m all for Tom Coughlin. Coughlin is a well respected HC and person in the NFL. Once a fierce disciplinarian type coach, being a military man, Coughlin was a no nonsense man. As HC of the NYG, he felt like he was losing his team, and changed his approach to a more friendlier relationship with his players, and the team responded and went to the Super Bowl and won. Is 70 years old too old? I say hell no! I’ve seen great managers in baseball like Jim Leyland, Jack McKeon succeed in their 70’s, and heck, Ronald Reagan was 70 when he was elected President, and he did a fantastic job running our country.
I like Dan Campbell, but I just don’t think he’s ready to run a team yet. Too many things he’s deficient in, but what a truly great guy to learn from Tom Coughlin would be. A true professional, a winner. Of course, nothing has been documented that Coughlin and or Cambell would agree to this set up, but it seems legitimate to me, and I like it.
If we’re looking for a long term (hopefully), I like Hue Jackson. (I would like Mike Shula too, but as so far, he hasn’t been mentioned as a coach we’re interested in) Jackson wasn’t given a fair shot with the Raiders, he went 8-8, and was fired. Incidentally, Hue’s OC in OAK was Al Saunders, the guy we brought in to “help” our offense after Philbin was fired. Jackson has done good things as OC for the Bengals. Dalton is playing his best football of his career this year, and most believe that is credit due to Hue Jackson. Bengals fans are actually crying for Dalton to play in the playoffs when they clearly all know Dalton is 0-4 in the playoffs.
- Friday January 8th Update! *
Yesterday, the Dolphins interviewed Bears Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase. Supposedly it was a long, thorough interview. That means this week, the Dolphins have interviewed Mike Shanahan, Mike Smith, Teryl Austin and Anthony Lynn. Dan Campbell will make his case today, and Doug Marrone and Hue Jackson will follow this weekend.

LOL @ FFR trying to minimize Tbomb’s penchant for control & power.
I laugh more at people maximizing it because it’s silly.
Not really, after all he’s in a power position as the top exec sans Ross.
tim,
it is funny how people act like he makes dumb decisions on purpose so he can have more control. kind of like when the economy is shit and everyone wants to blame the president. like he is doing it on purpose to get re-elected
He did get re-elected….LOL
I wonder what fans and media thought about the hirings of Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton with 3 years of OC experience at 42 years of age. I know McCarthy took a lot of shit for going with Rodgers and moving on from Favre. Then Payton stole Brees from us and both went on to win Super Bowls.
I know, I know, Gase/Tannehill are no Payton/Brees, McCarthy/Rodgers, but you know what, they weren’t then either. Just saying. That’s the positive way of looking at it. It’s easy to predict doom and gloom. None of us know how this will work out. It could be great, okay or a disaster. Gee… which one would I rather hope for being that’s all we have? LOL
GD, plenty of fans and media make Tannenbaum look as bad as possible with all kinds of speculation and theories. It’s not that complicated what the power structure is if you drop the bias and negative agenda. That’s all it is and it’s obvious.
you can deny it all you want. give us all your lame excuses. but every time any of us accidentally runs over a squirrel we all secretly think. ‘i bet tim is proud of me’
Not me. I think f*** yeah I got you you little furry tailed rat!

ROFLMAO!
God damnit that was supposed to read pickle man

i wasnt talking about him more so about a discussion i had with my kids back in the day about bush.
and i am not minimizing t baum. unlike most of you guys i am never in any of the meetings between him and ross where he tells ross how he is going to take total control. i am just laughing at the comments where he is like purposely hiring failures to give him more control. i am sure when the fins are 1-15 tbaum can just tell ross ‘yeah we suck, but look, i have all the control’
LOL
Stanger & Brian I am sorry for your losses.

Gase…….SMH
Somewhere there were fans and media saying the same thing about Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton. Their career paths are very similar to Adam Gase except Gase is 5 years ahead of them age-wise with the same resume for the most part. Rodgers and Brees were not elite QBs yet either. I think those scenarios were part of this process. Has it ever been done before? Yes, here it is.
Hope for the best, bro. That’s all we have. 🙂
Okay who is Opie going to bring in as his coordinators?
Rockphin says:
Okay who is Opie going to bring in as his coordinators?
Tim, I like your positive outlook. Yes Gase could take us to a Super Bowl and…..
I’m not predicting anything. Just sharing some info. and similarities of our new HC dynamics. Until I see a good team on the field all I will do is discuss potential. We’re grizzled fans in this area. Hope for the best, brace for the worst and react to failure. LOL
I don’t approach anything with dire results as the focus. That’s how I’m wired. I have no idea how this new regime will pan out. But why shit on it before a game is played. We have the #8 pick and some core players. Let’s hope we get it right.
You should be happy for your boy Tannehill because Gase should be good for him.
http://www.9news.com/story/sports/nfl/denver-broncos/mike-klis/2016/01/09/peyton-manning-adam-gase-mike-klis-emmanuel-sanders/78556578/
what the heck does this mean?
“Notice how Manning hammered home Gase’s work ethic? Some statements are more sincere than others. “
Peyton is a tireless worker, so is Eli. It was instilled in them from papa Manning.
“He’ll be an excellent coach without a doubt. He is ready for this for sure.”
Peyton was an advocate for Gase when the Broncos fired Fox. Gase seems to have been loyal to Fox though.
Yeah.
What the heck does the statement I quoted mean?
Lol, I guess it was just a poor way to say Manning wasn’t just blowing smoke when talking about Gase? If so, it was an awkward phrasing.
Brian Hoyer flippin’ sucks.
Dang, just read back a little ways.
Condolences, Stanger.
Condolences, Brian.
Tim, I know. All good stuff. We’ve shared some nice info on Gase. He’s our HC for the next 3yrs min & Tanny likely the next 2min.
So, yes lets support them. Anything can & will happen. 😀
It’s all we have. Let’s hope Grier/Gase rock!!!! 🙂
LOL @ Tanny the next 2min. Like you, I think Ryan can go to another level. Let’s hope Gase helps him get there with an offense that makes some fuckin sense and repair that damn OL.
I hope Gase pounds the table to re-sign Miller once he starts watching film. Miller/Ajayi, Landry and Parker along with Tannefill is a nice core. Albert, James and Pouncey as well.
Kong, yes, Hoyer makes horrible decisions under duress. Put Weeden in….sheesh.
Did you see the bit they did about 20 minutes ago on the Texans QBs this year? Lol, that was nuts.
LOL, did I mention Hoyer sucks? wow
4 turn overs in 1st half….Bill O’Brian is SHMFH….lol

Brian Hoyer flippin’ sucks.
yeah and so does his passing. but is tumble and role is on point.
Gase has to get Miller to resign. He’s got to promise him he’ll be a larger part of the offense he runs.
We can win with Miller giving Tanny a running game, a real running game.
Of course they want to resign Miller, but they have to find money first, and I think OV is more of a priority. NOW, if we can only get some of those great Bears players to come with him 😉
Money can be found/created. But we’ll see if he’s a priority.
I’d sign Miller asap before other offers come in…..and wait n see with OV.
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
How upset was Dan Campbell after he found out he wasn’t the guy? Team is going to “give hime a couple of days” before contacting him again
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
And, by the way, Dan Campbell had a “great” interview, team source tells me.
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
So for those keeping score at home, this is how Dolphins HC sweepstakes finished: 1. Gase. 2. Campbell. 3. Marrone.
If that’s the order, we did great signing Gase, because the other 2 would’ve been disaster.
Campbell would be a good keep, but at what coaching position? He’s not a coordinator.
That last int wasn’t Hoyer’s fault, Washington quit on the play, but yeah I agree he sucks.
Just want to take a moment to say, a lot of us have gone through some tough times with illness and loss the last year or so. I’ve changed as a person because of it. At 50 years old I often wonder what is it we’re doing – working to make a living so we can enjoy this great thing called life the best we can, so we can then all say goodbye? It’s a tough experience but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I would much rather have been than not to have been. Got a chance to ‘be’ and ‘live’ and experience amazing things.
One day we’ll all be gone and be a part of history like so many others. Enjoy it!
Peace & Love to all of you.
Amen, well said. That’s a big part of my ‘faith’ too!
Yeah, many of us are on the wrong side of 50, so give us some real football Fins, before it’s too late.
LOL, that too.
Serious question: If you’re Adam Gase, do you keep Dan Campbell former TEs coach and interim HC, who is loved by a lot of players that could create a mutiny? I would not retain him.
I wouldn’t either. Just not a good idea
Damn, this blog does not allow FB links.
I can see it.. 🙂
So sorry to see Brian’s post about his niece Brynn…I was hoping she could beat the odds. Fly high baby angel.

yes she did.
ok….
how is houston in the playoffs with such horrible qb i thought only great qb’s could take a team to the playoffs. not horrible ones.
tim
i said last night this blog is kind of made up of some very good peeps. it is a pretty special place.
well good peeps and you.
wtf, how can alex smith throw a pass like that. that is off target and it gets caught. i thought the wr was suppose to drop those
just in Gase you haven’t started it yet: “fucking coach… blow it up”. 🙂 just getting a head start on the 2018 season. lol
rhino
it should be a lot easier to blow it up in 2018 with gaser their.
Texans showing that a good QB helps except in the AFCS. Of course Luck will be back next year to keep the garbage back in line.
i want to know where the hell you get a job like jon idiotden. you get to just say the dumbest shit you can think of and people will pay you for it. so now alex smith is an all world qb. ‘he turned the cheifs around’ sf fucked up getting rid of him. what a fucking tool of an idiot……wait, that is insulting idiots…..what a fucking moronic asshole
so a qb that in an entire year cant throw a td to a wr turned the team around. has nothing to do with the coaching, maybe the best rb in football (i know he is hurt now) or a top ranked defense.
i am just going to ignore all that so i can say something incredibly stupid and make ffr want me to die even more
idoitden just said ‘i am going to miss you’ to Mike Tirico. please oh please tell me that is cause he is leaving mnf……no no, tell me that is cause he is going to fall off a fucking building. yeah that would be better.
I wish Tirico would leave, he’s a real piece of shit, always blaming someone about something, like it makes him feel better about himself.
LOL, what is up with the media?
FFR is steaming. LOL
Go Adam Gase!!!
Lol came on to see how man at flipping out. I’m really shocked by the move without interviewing Jackson, but oh well, go Gase! Get us some good coordinators
2015 is FINALLY over for me. Happy New Year everyone!!!
Lol nice, happy new year!
steve
i never notice that about tirico. but i fucking hate idiotden. probably not the best day or time for me to wish the things i want on him, but i am willing to bet his ass is so fucking jealous of all the shit that comes out of his mouth
Well,
I am glad the Fins got the guy they wanted. I have no clue if he will turn things around or not, but he is the new coach and I support it 100 percent. I do know one thing, if he fails , for some it will be Ross’, Tbaum and Thill’s fault, and if he wins it will be in spite of them….lol.
The thing this time around is Gase was the first choice, not 11th. Now if he can bring Kyle Long over…
Looks like we make be cannibalizing the Bengals defensive staff for position coaches
Yea thought I saw maybe their DB and LB coaches?
Chris Perkins is an idiot, in the press conference when Gase was introduced, he asks him about RT and the playoffs. [In a dufus voice] do you think Tannehill can lead the team to the playoffs next yr?
It is amazing some of those guys get paid to ask questions that drunk fans would ask
Yeah I said it before. I want so stuck on them getting a specific guy as I was THEIR guy, their to choice instead of the past selections where they seemed to take what they were left with. I’m glad to at least know that. I like the defensive coaches we are bringing in. The lb’s in cincy are soild and they have a good overall defense
Yep…..glad they got their guy and moved quickly to get him. Young coach….young team….who knows?
steveccnv says:

i bet otroll is pissed some one at a press conference was a bigger idiot then him
Don’t worry FFR….O never has to worry about that
I’m not overly impressed with any of the dolphin reporters. Armando is about the best and even he isn’t really very good either.
Steve, Kyle long was someone I really wanted us to draft, so if be very happy if they were able to pull that off.
So Clint Hurtt is the bears assistant defensive line coach.
Jerome Henderson is DBs coach for Dallas. Hope he convinces Claiborne to come over on a cheap FA contract.
Matt Burke is the lbs coach in cincy and will be same for us. That lb unit is pretty solid and I think that was a really good hire to solidify our defense.

bookman,
you are right, i dont know what i was thinking.
Omar was mad he couldn’t ask his question: “since the Dolphins didn’t hire a black coach, will you be bringing in a black QB to compete with and eventually replace Tannehill?”
lol @ bookman
Omar making another proclamation that won’t come true
No Such Luck!
Better chance of me hitting the powerball tonight than Omar going away
I watched the press conference and I’m beginning to warm up to gaze. His staff is gonna be very important.
I also like that he’s gonna call the plays himself.
bookman
well i hope you hit the lotto. i mean what would everyone do without the ability to post the trolls most idiotic thoughts
how dare a safety make a hard tackle over the middle. shame on him all he had to do was hold the guy up then gently lay him down
I thought the call sucked
a NEW coach…. AGAIN !!!!!
Omar and the rest!
If the score doesn’t count, how does the excessive celebration penalty after scoring count. I think that is BS.
I was thinking the same thing
They need to put all of those BS flags back in there pocket and let the game be decided on the field, several were thrown in the first game. Do it like soccer, if it really had nothing to do with the play, play on.
Weird NFL stat. The home QBs this weekend have not ever started an NFL playoff game.
3 of the 4 road QBs have won a SB
Holy shit! That was the best catch I’ve ever seen.
It was pretty impressive!
But on today’s NFL I cam’t tell what a catch is! 😉
Yeah, it’s gotten so ridiculous, you never know how they’re going to rule it. Glad they upheld it.
so does cincy fire marvin lewis after they lose again or give him a break cause dalton is hurt
That franchise sucked for so many yrs before Lewis got there, so if they fire him they’d be making the same mistake Houston did when they fired OA.
After the bucs and giants firing their HCs to keep their OCs as potential HCs, I’m not sure lol.
Man Omar is a fucking loser
What was your first clue?
No I knew it already lol, it just keeps being reestablished time and time again
My feelings on Gase are that he really hasn’t proved himself yet. His best success was with Manning who is one of the smartest QBs to ever play. Manning ran the O more than Gase did. This year everyone commended him for doing a great job with Cutler. Cutler’s were essentially the same as Tannehill’s including wins.
^Cutler’s numbers
Hard to tell with cutler. On one hand yeah he didn’t have an impressive year, but on the other hand, sure was better than his last year. So def some improvement under Gase
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero 26m26 minutes ago
The reasons Adam Gase is the Miami Dolphins new coach (Hint: A lot to do with Tannehill): My column: http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/armando-salguero/article53964610.html …
Well duh mando! That’s why Shanahan had an interview, and why Campbell didn’t get the job.
I was just reading this. Sigh, I can’t flipping help it, I’m getting excited about the hire. Apparently I’m a glutton for punishment, lol.
It’s ok not to hate everything the team does! 😉
I don’t hate everything the team does, I hate the results and 15 years of futility have put me into show me, don’t tell me mode…or so I thought. But as I said, glutton, lol.
If you want to be in the playoffs 2 out of every 5 yrs and win nothing you hire a retread coach like Shanahan, if you want to win an SB or bust you hire the hot new coordinator, we’ll see what happens, but how he gets RT to play will define him.
Steve, at this point, I just want to field a team that can post a winning season. My mind can’t process or comprehend the concept of us actually competing for a superbowl, lol.
I can’t argue with that Kong? Gone are the days when I’d predict a 12+ win season, until they actually do it I won’t predict anything over 8-8.
I can’t get excited about anything this team does until they win a playoff game. Everything else is just a façade.
If what Mando says is accurate then it is clear the FO still believes in Tannehill and we are not going QB early as some have suggested we might and should
They don’t have much choice at this stage, it’s ok to draft a QB, but not early.
That is what I have thought all along
Oh I doubted very serious we would go QB early. It’s always been a mid round consideration, and just a consideration, we have a lot if needs so I expect we only God QB mid, IF we pickup some extra picks.
Go not god
Even if God were our QB I am sure some here would still criticize him
Not a smart move to go for it on 4th down at that stage of the game. You’ve got to get some pts on the board, until you do it makes scoring that much harder.
I can’t get too excited about this hire but I am not trashing it either. Gase to me is still a blank slate who needs to prove himself but he appears to be well regarded
My thoughts exactly, hope tor the best, but expect the worst.
Damn, this game has gotten ugly.
The rain and AJ McCarron will do that.
I will say this though, unlike with Philbin they got their first choice. Doesn’t mean anything to me, but they must be excited they got their guy.
That is a good thing
And I do like the fact that he’s going to call the offensive plays, until he can trust someone to do it.
Still have to laugh that Marshall and Cutler still have never been to the playoffs.
I hate playoffs like these where my only wishes are to have the Cheats lose and the teams with the best chance to beat them win.
Lol, I literally just had the exact same thought.
A big hit, and subsequent turnover forced, by Steelers LB Ryan Shazier on Bengals RB Giovani Bernard infuriated a few members of the Bengals,
What a bunch of idiots, I would’ve thought not scoring would’ve infuriated them.
i sure hope they dont waste a pic, any round, on a qb. they nee way more help first then a qb. if they want sign some FA but i hope they dont take some dumb shot at like finding a brady in the late rounds
A mid to late round pick for a QB to groom as a backup to replace Moore is not a wasted pick
Lol my wife just called roethlisberger, the rothlis raper lol.
In Cin. on the radio they put a warning out to the women.
gotta love a safety celebrating a tackle he makes on the running back 20 yards down field
I thought only our team did that?
D,
we all knew your wife had a great sense of humor. i mean she has too.
my feelings on this coach hire……well stay tuned, i will tell you in december of 2019

did i give you permission to talk to me?
and yeah ken it is, with all the needs on this team, dont waste a pick on some back up qb. get depth at more positions
My feeling is that it is always a good idea to draft a QB every few years to develop as a back up and or trade commodity. Packers have routinely done that over the years and have benefitted greatly by doing that
How so, have the Packers benefitted greatly? They waste a pick on a late round QB, then trade him 3 yrs later for 2 rounds higher than where they took him, why not just trade the pick for next yrs one round earlier pick? Then do the same thing 2 more yrs and you’d be ahead of the game, but even then why do you want to wait 3 yrs to get anything out of a current pick?
bookman
funny how we all see things different. i think this game is boring
I hope Pit wins, I want KC going to NE.
^
steve,
my point was more i dont profess to know more then the thinking heads that made the decision. i dont know if it will work our or not so i will give it time and see what happens. most coached need 3 years unless they are just horrible.
This is a good game
ken,
nothing wrong with idea when you have the luxury of doing that. unfortunately the dolphins dont
I don’t see it as a luxury pick
Cicny should be kicking themselves for going for it on 4th earlier instead of taking the FG. Now instead of a FG winning it, they need a TD.
That play changed the game though. The Cin RB got hurt and it fired up the Bengals.
really rooting for the Bengals
