Put Me in Coach . . .

Adam Gase

Miami Dolphins Head Coach Adam Gase

The Miami Dolphins have named their 12th Head Coach in the history of the franchise, Adam Gase.  The former Offensive Coordinator of the Chicago Bears and also the Denver Broncos, is now the youngest Head Coach in the NFL at 37 years old.   Adam Gase and the Miami Dolphins will not be hiring an Offensive Coordinator this season, as Gase will fill those duties himself.

Gase has already begun filling out his staff, beginning with the hiring of former Cincinnati Bengals Defensive backs and former NFL CB Vance Joseph.

Vance Joseph

Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph

Gase has also named Matt Burke, former Cincinnati Bengals Linebacker Coach to man that same post for the Miami Dolphins

Linebackers Coach Matt Burke

Our new Tight Ends Coach is Shane Day, who was the TE Coach for the Chicago Bears

Replacing the vaunted John Benton is Chris Foerster.  Foerster spent the 2004 season as Offensive Coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, but joins the Dolphins after coaching last year as OL Coach for the SF 49ers.

The Dolphins have also named Shawn Jefferson as Wide Receivers Coach, former NFL WR, and former Wide Receivers Coach of the Tennessee Titans.

In addition to all the position coaches and assistants, the Dolphins have promoted Eric Stokes, formerly the Assistant General manager of the Dolphins to Senior Personnel Executive.

So, what does all this mean?  Will Adam Gase be able to transform our predictable, ineffective offense into a high scoring unit?  Will new DC Vance Joseph employ a 4-3, or a 3-4, or a hybrid of both?  Will former Dolphins OC and now OL Coach Chris Foerster be able to fix this much maligned unit?  There a lots of questions that beg to be answered, but patience will be necessary folks, because we have a long way until we play our 1st regular season game in 2016, and we probably won’t have all the answers until possibly the end of the 2016 season, or maybe even years later.

Yeah, I’ve already started feeling optimistic, they suckered me in again!  I like that Gase will be the OC, and will be calling the plays.  No excuses about chain of command or the OC being stubborn and not listening to the HC, because the HC is the OC.  Accountability my friends, and I like it!  Gase has a lot of work to do to catch up with our divisional foes.  Save for the victory against the Patriots in Week 17, the Dolphins were 1-5 in the AFC East, and if we want to contend for a playoff spot, we must do better against our divisional foes.

Here’s to hoping Gase is the magic man, and Bill Belichick, Todd Bowles and Rex Ryan are all screaming at the end of next year for Adam Gase to get off their case!

GO DOLPHINS !!

Do these people doing mock drafts know ANYTHING about the teams? Or for that matter the positions? Here is Rob Rang of CBS sports mock draft pick for the dolphins with his ‘explanation’.

    Duh duh duh duh duuuuuuumb!

CBS Sports’ Rob Rang: Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor: “Between Ndamukong Suh and Earl Mitchell, the Dolphins dedicated an awful lot of its salary cap to defensive tackle with little to show for it. Mitchell has recorded just two sacks in 28 games for the Dolphins since landing a four-year, $16 million deal two years ago and could be a salary cap casualty. The powerful and passionate Billings could be the disruptive presence the Dolphins thought they were getting in Mitchell.”

DT;s to not typically rack up sacks and there will be MANY guys available at #8 who are way better fits for our “needs” than a DT!

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I mean FUCK we just spent ten hundred gagillion dollars on Suh and a 2nd round pick on Phillips last year!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I guess he forgot we drafted Jordan Phillips who looked good in the 2nd rd last year. Also, Mitchell does a lot of dirty work that is not stat based.

Our issue in run defense was a LB issue. What’s funny is someone posted a stat not long ago that we had the most tackles for losses last year. The problem was we also allowed too many runs that ripped right through us. We were feast and famine. The coverage was another issue.

  7. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Mitchell was a little bit more inconsistent this year than last, but I thought he still had a solid year. It’s all in what you ask your DTs to do. Mitchell can clog things up, but it’s really not his strength. He’s best as a gap player. Unfortunately, teams were able to shift their protections inside to deal with Suh and because our edge guys just weren’t very effective and could be single blocked most of the time. We need to find a legitimate edge threat that teams have to account for with extra men.

  23. D's avatar D says:

Our DT’s are fine, no actually they are pretty great, even our depth guys. If i took a DT in this draft it would on only a few conditions. 1) its a late round selection, and thats pretty much BPA. 2) someone retardedly talented fell to a ridiculous round and i was able to get a steal. Like A’Shawn Robinson falling to the 3-4th round, etc.

Im feeling secondary as the deepest need from the draft. I agree we HAVE to get some help on the OL but im thinking FA is a lot better place to address the OG position. OG FA’s arent overly expensive in FA, CB’s and Safeties usually are. There is one FA CB i wouldnt mind getting but id still draft FS/CB high and pair them. I also feel a lot more comfortable with the draftable talent at CB this year than i do about the OG’s

I think DE’s are second most important because we likely lose 2-3 of our top 3. Thats gonna hurt and we are going to need a stud to replace them. We cant afford to get a stud DE in FA this year so we are going to have to draft at least one. I could se getting one in rounds 1-2, then double dipping by round 4ish. Seems like a decently deep group.

LB is pretty much on same level as DE in my opinion, we could really use 2-3 LB’s, most importantly an ILB. Im with Piggy i could see us drafting 2 LB’s and if i had my way we would wind up with both the LSU LB’ers Beckwith and Deon Jones. ILB is somewhat deep group this year, OLB seems very deep so i think we have a chance to land two pretty good guys.

Id only want to draft an OL in the first if we were replacing Albert, and if thats the case i definitely go LT in the first, and hopefully it would be Tunsil or Stanley. Id be interested in Vadal Alexander in the 2nd, as a potential start early LT or LG. There are some other LT’s i think could be starting by end of the year, but i dont really trust any of them to be starters day 1. It is a pretty deep pool though, so we might want to get Albert’s eventual replacement in another round, even if we dont replace him this year. We could do the same at OG, get a FA or two, but also draft a guy in a later round to eventually replace the vets.

Maybe they just havent gotten around to changing the coaching staff page, but its showign as if we have duplicates of all our coaches, old ones mixed in witht he new ones like Lou Anarumo still as DC and Vance Jospeh as DC, it also still has Campbell, but with no title. I mean i know what it takes to change a web page, same place they were adding people is the place they delete them lol, so WTF would they do that, thats pure lazy. Also if you changed Campbell to list no title, Why the fuck didn’t you just delete him….. i mean change it enough to remove title but not just remove the whole line.

Philbin was expected to join Giants HC Ben McAdoo’s staff, but talks broke off with QBs coach Mike Sullivan likely getting promoted to offensive coordinator. Parker’s catch against Balt. might be the greatest routine catch in the Fins history. what I mean is it looks like such a great play, but Parker himself will probably tell you it was nothing special. With his size and athletic ability the DB had no chance, that’s the type of play I want to see happen next yr on a regular basis, like Brandon Marshall does weekly.

He needs to become RTs favorite target, which will open up Landry on 3rd downs. What will really open up the O this yr will be an offensive scheme that’s current with the century we’re living in.

  54. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

One thing the Fins have had through most of their history has been very good/great LBs, that have made plays all over the field, Bob Matheson, Larry Gordon, Bob Brudzinski, Mike Kolen, Joey Porter, Kim Bokamper, A.J. Duhe, Bryan Cox, John Offerdahl, Nick Buoniconti, Zach Thomas, and Hugh Green.

To me our biggest need is a great LB. I don’t think a D can be productive without at least one great/very good LB. The guy we had as our sudo LB this yr making those plays was R. Jones, but having a safety do that isn’t a good thing, because you get what you got in SD, Jones comes up to ballhawk an int and the WR goes deep wide open to the endzone.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Nothing wrong with having a safety like Jones but yes you need a LB who can make plays sideline to sideline. Jenkins is pretty good but played on a high ankle sprain most of the year and missed games because of it. I also liked what I saw from Hewitt, he could really push to start next year. Vigil needs to get bigger and stronger so he can compete at MLB which is where I think he’ll compete. Misi is Misi, he can play either MLB or SOLB. I wouldn’t be looking to release him for cap purposes until we have better LBs on the team. Sheppard is a UFA and likely won’t be back so we can’t start getting rid of LBs until we have their replacements.

I think we need to add at least one good LB from the draft and one from FA who is better than Sheppard and Paysinger. He doesn’t need to be a big signing. Is it really that hard to add a LB better than those two guys?

      • KaNiggitt & MikeE have also visited where I hang since this reunion of sorts !! Tried to offer the link to what i wrote yesterday, but things haven’t been goin as smoothly for me here as they did on day one !! Think I keep mistakenly loggin in with 3 different options which is screwin-up how the options here work for me??

Thanx Getter : )) Yea I remember you from the SS.. You ain’t shittin with “”the place”” !! Same ole SS FunnStuff (minus the SS host and a few other DHeads) !! Good place to hang with 500 comments in 24 hrs while waitin a week for where I’m planted to gather 100 of just Dolphin thoughts !! Try to give my folks stuff to laugh at but most are (slightly exaggerated) WW1&2 survivors who’s funny bones are worn out… We have a good time, but not like at the ole SS and/or here !! I Appreciate be welcomed here by those that (for the most part) I haven’t spoken with for 5 or so years, though FFR has gone out of his way to keep me on my toes by visiting where I hang/write : )) !!
      GOFINS, getterdone !!!

The other blog is discussing Dion Fuckface’s fate with the team. What say you from a pure football standpoint if you were in control of personnel?

My view is teams hold onto talent as long as they can or bring it in regardless of what they’ve done in society, so you know they’ll give him the opportunity, he’s our property so might as well try to make the most of it.

If it doesn’t work out we didn’t really lose anything at this particular time because he wasn’t playing and producing anything. We know we busted on the picks and some money. It’s not going to effect this team moving forward. It would be different if we had picked him last year but it was 3 years ago.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

It’s a tough call. Normally you hold onto a guy who’s still in his rookie contract, BUT….being a #3 overall, his rookie contract is costing some fairly hefty cap space that might be better served elsewhere.

The 1st salary cap deadline is in March I believe, so you don’t get the real luxury of seeing what he brings to OTA’s & training camps.
So if you need the money in FA for signing Miller, Vernon, etc, then I’d just part ways with him.

Another key is, do the Phins have someone in regular contact with him, know where his head’s at type thing?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We actually haven’t paid him much. He’s lost almost $10M from his suspensions and his contract was only $20.5M. His lost money is labeled in red. If football is still important to him and he produces for us, we paid him $6.2M for the 2016 season. That’s not a big deal for that kind of player. We could use his skills at DE and OLB and I’d play him at both.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

        Yeah, he’s a $6.2M cap hit.
Again, a lot depends on where his head is at, plus where Wake is at in rehab, what Vernon & Shelby do, and what the thinking is from Grier & Gase early in the draft’s 1st & 2nd picks.

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I agree with getter here. He’s never produced even decent rookie numbers. We’ve wasted time and money, but no need to continue wasting either. Aldon Smith at least was a terror for two years. Fuckface was just a waste.

      • Badly NEED a matured, highly productive DJ, but get the feeling that he’ll be flipping burgers wayyy before o16’s end.. I didn’t like trading up for him, (I wanted Tavon Austin), though once it was done I did initially like the idea of DJ opposite of CWake, but at this point, he needs a huge restructuring, NFL minimum for me to trust him, if not burger flippin minimum wage.. CKelly’s in SF, see what/who he’d offer for DJ, Kelly’s aggressive & has wanted DJ/all DUCKS since day one, we might actually score..

  66. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tim, is it even a given that the NFL will be reinstating him soon? Is the suspension officially over?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It was for a year and we haven’t released him yet. Does the official NFL calendar start in March? That’s when we’ll know his status. I’m just looking at him from a pure personnel standpoint, not whether I like the guy or not. Right now I do not like him.

  67. New Age's avatar New Age says:

If Jordan cared the least bit about money, he wouldnt have already forfeited millions of dollars. Time to cut losses. Does anyone really expect that he learned anything at all from this? He’s been suspended 3 times and has been off the field far longer than on it.

  68. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If we release Jordan we save $3+M as his dead money is almost $3M. It’s not a lot of money in the big scheme of things.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I get that, but new HC Gase doesn’t need his cancer roaming the locker room either.
I’ll leave it up to Tbomb & Co. My guess is they cut him.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well that’s what we’re discussing lol. I have no idea the contact they’ve had if it’s even allowed yet or what the plan is. It might all be contractual to cut him at the right time, not sure about those rules. That’s when we’ll know what the FO thinks of him. I’m just counting him in my DE/OLB conversation because I think it’s an area we need to improve upon as things change.

I will be posting about the DE/OLB position but I think I may just submit it as an article. Herd asked for us to help in that area. It’s setup as a factual/opinion based discussion piece.

  69. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I wonder what kinda # the Giants & other teams wave at JPP. He’d be an interesting get if the price is right.
He’ll be fully healthy & coming back to Fla at 27yrs old. I’d cut Wake & give him some of that Wake money.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

If JPP can be signed cheaper than Vernon due to what happened to him, then I definitely do it, and also take the Wake savings & resign Shelby to a fair deal.
Then we’re set, maybe draft a DE mid rounds if we can’t go that route early.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Remember we’ll still have Fede on his cheap rookie deal as developmental depth. 😉

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s got a major hand issue. He applied pressure but struggled wrapping up. That’s not the direction I go even though he’s having his hand operated on in the offseason. I don’t want to add more risk.

  70. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

GD, I’m all over what I call DE/OLB/Edge type guys. I just finished the article and will submit it. It’s a food for thought and visual of where we’re at in that area of the team.

  71. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

you just have to love the flippant ‘cut wake or dont sign vernon and just draft someone in the mid rounds’ attitude. cause it is just that easy to just draft another starter. and evvvvveeeyone knows how great the fins are with the drat

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Vernon to me is a very good player, but not special. I’m not paying him special money. He doesn’t change games. In fact yes he does, getting a PF penalty to put a team in position for the game winning FG. I think it was JAC.

      • 13kvFINS's avatar 13kvFINS says:

CWake ain’t never again gonna be what he once was with that achilles, and he’ll be nearing 35 if/when he is 100% late in o16… Gonna GIVE Coples some 7 mill, and not pay OV?? With only Fede, DeMontre Moore, & Coples, GOTTA KEEP OV and DS if at all possible, IMHO !! I’m not paying CWake 10 mill for 6 or so games at half of what he once was !! He’ll be retiring soon, get out while the gettins good (like NE does), and move forward with who will actually be on the team in o17- 2020 whould be my preference even though I luv CWake!!

  72. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

the easiest job in the nfl has to be playing offensive line for the cheats more specifically pass protection

  73. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

lmao. any body can be that open if you are allowed blatant push offs

  74. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    tim

wasnt commentating on vernon dollar value, but he is a started in the nfl. you just dont flippant go out and replace that with a mid round pick

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh I agree about that but he was a borderline mid rd pick in the 3rd. But he now has 4 years experience and he’s still very young. I get it!

  75. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

oh well i really wasnt expecting a good game here. i didnt think the cheifs stood a chance against the cheats and the nfl.

i think there are reruns of oprah on somewhere

  76. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Gronkowski and Gostkowski set scoring records for NE on the TD. Brady 8/10 for 80 on the drive. They did not run it once.

I think this KC/NE game could be very entertaining

  78. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I hope it’s 48-45 and the Pats lose just to seem them distraught. LOL

  79. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

guess i was the only one that saw that opening drive. the refs are not going to let brady get touched and as long as gronk gets to push off like he did on the td this game is history

  80. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Damn Tim, ya stole my idea. Guess I’ll do a write up on another area of the Dolphins.
But good idea. The DE situation is in a real flux. Many ways it could go.

  81. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

LMAO @ Sean Smith….coulda made a game changing play….but he never could hold onto a ball in his hands.

  82. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

James Walker ‏@JamesWalkerNFL 14m14 minutes ago

If Ryan Tannehill reduces his turnovers, improves pocket presence, makes a few nice throws a game and uses his legs, he can win more games.

lmao. and he actually gets paid for this wisdom.

if parker runs crisp routes comes out of his breaks sharp he will be open more lol

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well if he was faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound we’d probably win more games. LOL

  83. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    tim

did you know that if the dolphins would score more then their opponents they would win more games

  84. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Bookman, I used to say because of Sean Smith’s lanky build he looked like he was pushing pumpkins as opposed to wrapping up WRs beating him for YAC. LOL

i am sure after the league lets brady win the superbowl and he retires they will suspend him

  92. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:
