The Wedge Scouting Report: Mackensie Alexander, CB

Wedge here for Toots SuperGlue!

Ever had one of those days?

Nothing can withstand the gravitational forces you pass through.

Everything comes to pieces!

Well that’s when you need your Toots SuperGlue!

TOOTSGLUEAD

TOOTS is the Glue you can rely on like superstar cornerback Mackensie Alexander.

Just apply a little bit of Toots Superglue to you broken Photon Belt or your best Wide Receiver and like Magic you are back in space again or pitching a shutout on the football field.

Toots and Alexander are airtight and won’t let anything come between them and the receiver, including bombs!

MackensieAlexander5

Alexander was one of the most highly ranked high school prospects coming out of high school.  He was talented then, he is talented now.

Toots won Space Ship Saver of the year last millennium.  And it still saves Space Ships!

Some think Alexander will be the first cornerback taken in the draft!  Some also think Toots will glue a moon to a planet!

Before the combine Alexander declared to the NFL “I am the best cornerback in the draft”…cocky, you bet!  True….maybe!

Cornerbacks need to be confident, and Mackensie certainly is.

And I am confident Toots will permanently glue anything it touches!

NCAA FOOTBALL: SEP 12 Appalachian State at Clemson

Guess how many interceptions Alexander had at Clemson…

The answer is ZERO.  Guess why?

Yep, you guessed it, no one dared to throw the ball near him.

Like Toots Superglue which never breaks down.  Toots is permanent and not safe for your kids to play with.

Alexander is true shutdown defensive back.  And Toots will kill your pets if they eat it!

MackensieAlexander4

Alexander is yet another prospect with Florida roots, hailing from Immokalee Florida.

I don’t know where that is but its probably full of football fields.

Toots, on the other hands, is harnessed out of the semen of dead lifeforms!

At the combine Alexander didn’t run the 40 but or really any drills at all except the bench where he benched 225 pounds 11 times.

At the Saturn New Products Fair, Toots glued an alien’s tentacles to his own pancreas 11 times!

FBC: Russell Atheletic Bowl: Clemson vs. Oklahoma

Let’s face it, if you are an NFL Team you need a Mackenzie Alexander on your roster.

And if you are an intergalactic agent, you need Toots SuperGlue in your spaceship!

Get your Toots SuperGlue now…look for the sexy alien on the label.

StickTootsGlue

Oh…and one more thing now you can get new MAX Toots SuperGlue.

Speaking of which…if Mackensie Alexander was an Alien Weapon of Destruction, he would be a bottle of MAX Toots SuperGlue!

Mackenzie Alexander the CB for sure.

Hargraves making it past Baltimore is an obstacle, but not a big one they have OL needs and if i were them id choose Stanley. We would have been next most likely, followed by TB, who didnt really do much as far as secondary help in FA. So he could go at 9, Giants at 10 sorta kinda have CB needs but they addressed them in FA so he could slide past them, I think he would slide past the Bears at 11, and i think the Saints could have Alexander ranked higher than Hargreaves because of their defensive scheme. Alexander really doesn’t fit our scheme well, so i think sorta outside shot we still could get Hargreaves, but its a lot worse now that we are at 13. I dont like Apple or Alexander for us, enough to take them there id rather have Shaq Lawson, Ragland, or Flloyd if Hargreaves is gone.

SO FAR, MY KOOL-AID KID AWARD FOR TODAY GOES TO J.S. for his 1:37 comment,”I can honestly say we are the cusps of the division crown now and who knows the SB with any luck.”
    ————–
My take for today is the belief that we are a WEAKER TEAM NOW THAN WE WERE AT 8 AM.—The dismantling of the Miami Dolphins by T-Baum has begun, big time. The loss of Miller REALLY hurts. And unless we get a stud to replace him (“The Buckeye Bullet,” Ezekiel Elliot perhaps?) we will be in tough shape. NOT convinced Ajayi is the answer. Now, I’ve been away from the Fins for about 4-5 hours but I have to assume our 2 cavernous holes at the Guard position have not been plugged, right?? And we now need at least 2 and maybe 3 more defensive backs to step-up and start?? Also looks like we’ll need a back-up QB, with Moore possibly headed to Dallas. –I don’t know about the rest of you but I just DON’T SEE T-Baum coming up with 6-7 new starters during the off season, given his track record.
    ————
Last season, T-Baum produced a 6-10 record after spending a gazillion of Ross’s dollars. Right now we are NOT a 6-10 team. We are WORSE!!

    HULK, are you out there??

    D,
I completely understand your points on Jaylon Smith. If you can’t tell, I’m a ND homer. good news is that there was NOT nerve damage (like Lattimore). What if he is available in the 2nd round? hmmm?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

hey Rhino, ongrats on the academic decathlon.

It’s been reported Smith has nerve damage in both his foot and knee. That’s why he was ruled out for 2016.

      • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

man… then there are reports to both. 😦 if there is nerve damage then it’s over… but without nerve damage it’s a different story.

  22. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I would have liked to keep Miller and Vernon, but it would have to be under the right financial scenario. I don’t think either of them are worth worrying over though. Their production was nothing special and can be replicated or even surpassed. I get that they both showed some promise, but it’s not like either of them were “gotta keep” players regardless what they cost. It’s up to the FO to bring in better players.

What are comp picks based on ?? I had thought was based on round player was drafted in ? I am getting a feel from talks today that it is based on $$$ in next contract .. Can someone shed a bit of light ?? I know the entire plus minus formula is too complex, just looking far the basis.

  37. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Good to know… I seem to recall Mf 13 was high on Thomas at one point. You figure we need to improve on this in FA ?

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Not in FA, nothing really good there. Those 2 were FA’s.
I say maybe draft a Qb in the 6th or 7th if need be. Jeff Driskel, Brandon Allen, Brandon Doughty, Kevin Hogan, Jake Coker if still around.

  39. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Still some decent names OL available , including Evan Mathis and Donald Penn

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Penn will be looking for sizable money. But may be worth it. He’s stayed mostly healthy his 10 yr career.
      Mathis will cost too.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

The Phins are said to be working on signing Geoff Schwartz, the Giants OG/LT. He’s supposed to be healthy now. Saw a pick of him on his twitter nearly dunking a basketball, declaring the surgically repaired ankle oOK!

  40. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ov and Miller and maybe even Matthews’ deals will definitely land us solid comp picks next year. Unless we continue our lavish spending spree. LOL

  41. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

How is it Determined Who Receive Compensatory Draft Picks?

There are some secrets that are so closely guarded; we may never fully know the truth regarding them. For example, we may never know what happened in Roswell, New Mexico back in 1947. We may never know the Colonel’s secret recipe. And we may never know the exact formula which the NFL Management Council uses for assigning compensatory draft picks. But even though we are not privy to the exact workings of the compensatory draft pick formula, we have more than two decades of the NFL granting compensatory picks. And from this, we can form a reasonable theory regarding how it is done.

Essentially the formula is set up so that a team is compensated to offset losing more and/or better free agents than they added during the previous season. But not every free agent signing counts toward this formula, and qualifies as a “compensatory free agent”.

Generally, an unrestricted free agent who was not released by his previous team, and signed during the free agency period counts toward the compensation equation. There are additional factors regarding the loss of restricted free agents, and injury settlements, and so forth, which determine whether a player qualifies, but essentially, it can be condensed to the statement that a free agent will typically count as a compensatory free agent if they are able to leave their previous team, with that team being unable to prevent the loss.

After the NFL has decided which free agents count as compensatory free agents, the next step is to assign a value, or rating to each free agent. The primary factor used in evaluating the compensatory free agents’ ratings seems to be the average annual value of their new contract. This rating is then slightly adjusted based on the playing time that the player received. It is then further adjusted for any postseason honors, such as Pro Bowl or All-Pro selections, that the player receives.

After each compensatory free agent is rated based on these criteria, they are ranked against the rest of the players in the league who are on rosters at the end of the season. Depending on where the compensatory free agents rank versus the league, they will be graded as either a third, fourth, fifth, sixth, or seventh round compensatory draft pick. For example, Ndamukong Suh’s average annual value around $20 million is one of the highest in the league, and would grade him as a third round compensatory pick. Whereas Marshall Newhouse’s value of $1.5 million would likely grade as a seventh round pick.

  42. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

ov’s deal will probably net us a 4th round pick maybe a 3rd if he makes the probowl at 17 mil ave

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Right now the score is 3-1 major FA salary market loss for us. We’re likely in 3rd rd range and maybe another for comp picks in 2017.

Mario doesn’t count because he was a street FA and we traded for Maxwell’s deal, he wasn’t a FA. Our FO might be smarter than you think. 😉

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

      Thanx Rock.

Glad to see Matthews signed with Titans as oppased to Pats. Whi were interested

  43. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

lmao @ rock… you’re avi and babe of the week got this site blocked at my work.

  44. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I still think we are very much in the mix for a DE at 13. Wake is injured, Williams can be cut after this season, we lost Shelby and OV today, and Dion Fuckface Jordan will likely be cut as well. It’s going to be a big need for us this season.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Yeah
      Probably

      I want to keep wake
And we can count on Jordan
      😉

I actually think Ezekial Elliot is in play too

      • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Jordan has doubled his PED’s regiment… he should be good to go 🙂

We probably would have taken Gurley, if available, last year, so I wouldn’t be surprised with Elliot.

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

He may be, but does he make us that much better than Miller?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That depends on what we have in store on offense. If you listened to Christensen when he was hired he touched on being happy to play in a no-huddle spread again where you mix in a few runs here and there. I think our approach will be to pass to score points and then hopefully run to win as in wear the game down. That’s actually a football philosophy. It’s the Earhardt/Perkins offense.

      • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Tim: that philosophy was what we were expecting with Lazor. Id like to see a lot more balance bsawd on how well that went

  45. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Was hoping to keep Shelby but alas. We are a little short now it would seem. Unless we can keep wake at a decent price.

  46. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Toba, no what I mean is get on em’ early and then settle in. It doesn’t mean you don’t run early. It’s more balanced early but attack with the passing game, then grind them a bit with a lead.

I have no idea what Lazor was doing. He baffled me every week even when we won and won big. LOL

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

The big wins only seemed to happen with a job on the line or changed.

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

I lean more on your side that we DO have some good talent and was badly misused most of last year. Losing Miller is hit to our talent level, but heres hoping Jay is ready and will last a few years. I watched Kiko in last few games with Philly and he looked good. I like the trade

  47. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Guys, with a new GM and HC there are going to be changes. We knew who our core was and who was vulnerable. Focus on who’s staying, who we let walk and who we sign. We’re filling voids with what we consider better players, not world beaters, but upgrades that weren’t all that strong.

We have money tied up in a core group so we have to fill some voids and land some draft picks. That’s how we’re set up. We can’t give OV $85 and Miller $26. It didn’t add up.

  48. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Toba, I hate losing Miller. It’s like Clay all over but Miller is more talented. But when you look at the numbers and what’s going on in FA it’s understandable even though it sucks. We’re not made up to match that.

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Agreed on both points huge$$$ rb seem to be a thing of the past. Mike Glennon is a qb i would not mind having around as a backup , plYed well at times pre Winston

  49. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Titans agreed to terms with WR Rishard Matthews on a three-year contract.
He chose the Titans over the Patriots, almost certainly because Tennessee offered more money. Matthews, 26, caught 43 passes for 662 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games for the Dolphins last year, showing playmaking ability in the short and intermediate range. He is adept after the catch and has strong hands. In Tennessee, Matthews should provide a big upgrade on Harry Douglas in three-receiver sets alongside Dorial Green-Beckham and Kendall Wright. With Matthews, DeMarco Murray, and C Ben Jones added so far, the Titans’ offense has a chance to take a big step forward in Marcus Mariota’s second year.

  50. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Falcons signed DE Derrick Shelby, formerly of the Dolphins, to a four-year, $18 million contract.
Shelby was one of the more underrated free agents on the market. After the Dolphins lost LE Cameron Wake to a torn Achilles’ last season, Shelby stepped in as the starter opposite Olivier Vernon and graded out as Pro Football Focus’ 10th-ranked 4-3 end, playing really well against the run. He’s shown flashes of pass-rush juice over the past three seasons, and the Falcons are banking on him turning it up a notch as a full-time starter opposite Vic Beasley.
    __________
Wow, PFF had him grading out very well. I thought he was worth keeping on the cheap, young, and incase Wake doesn’t come around.
Drafting a DE early I’m sure.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Do you ever question PFF? We had Wake/Shelby, Suh, Mitchell/Phillips and Vernon yet we were still 6-10. Add that shit up. LOL

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I do question their results mostly…but he did look good on tape, albeit a small sample. The defense caved also due to injuries, and most of all scheme…IMO.
As much as we started saying how crazy Lazor ran an offense, well Coyle was damn near as bad.

  51. uwantwat's avatar uwantwat says:

Crikey I thought I was a grumpy old turd but OD puts me to shame. Is there anything and I mean anything the Phins do right these days in his mind? I’m sure we could win the SB this coming year and that still wouldn’t be enough for him. We have let over-priced players go along with some older ones including some misfits and replaced them with starters and still he is not happy. He is teaching me how to be grumpy much better. I used to think I was pretty good at it. Now I realise I’m just a baby trying to learn.

  52. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We still have $22.5M left, but we need to wait for some bargain guys in a week or two. Can’t imagine they’re going to pay Jordan $6M, but his hit is almost $3M, so…

  53. uwantwat's avatar uwantwat says:

I still think they will keep FF if he checks out ok in the interview. New coaching staff might just bring that talent out. Very disappointed we let Shelby get away but maybe that was the opening Fede needed to see playing time. Matthews was always going to leave so no surprise there.

  54. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

In regards to last nights OL signing the guy started for us against Jacksonville and didn’t give up a sack & Bortles was only pressured 3 times that entire game. Doesn’t mean much, but it’s probably an upgrade to Fox….also shows he shut down the top paid pass rusher in the league😂

  55. D's avatar D says:

Comp picks piggy. The people we lost it was a given we would lose. Shelby was the lone exception as I thought we would push to sign him, however, I don’t know what his contract details are so we might actually get a comp for him as well.

This is a good thing for all the build from the draft people. We didn’t bust our bank in FA we got some quality players and filled more holes than we created. On top of all that we also are getting even more picks in this upcoming draft to do what everyone wants, start building and developing our own player base.

People are going to leave draft will help it be less of a big issue

  56. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

    D,
Exactly. I honestly see Grier as an old school negotiator that you’d see in Pitt or NE. I guess we’ll see where it goes.

  57. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I actually think there’s a very good shot that Dion FF is with the team this year. Why not see what he can do? I wouldn’t be counting on him, and I’m sure we won’t, but if it’s a difference of $3M, and the kid can get his head on straight, it’s probably worth the shot.

  58. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  63. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

  64. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Our organization hasn’t deserved the benefit of the doubt because of all their fuck-ups over the last decade plus, and I’ll be honest, I thought they were heading right back in that same direction with the trade (especially when it was said we gave up a 4th RD pick). As it turns out, they’ve done a good job of staying fiscally responsible for a change, but it’s hard to blame fans for suspecting the same ol’ gah-bage. I’m pleased with what they’ve done so far, I hope they hold the line.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What aim saying is don’t come out bitching saying they’ll be fiscally irresponsible & then complain when they seem to be being fiscally responsible & say it’s the SAME ole Dolphins. whether you trust the FO or not I don’t really care, but to make 100% completely arguments about approach & say their the same is utter bull shit and whining just to whine. Like I said it’s not the issue with trusting the FO with, that’s fine!

this doesn’t sound good from mando article

“Indeed this is a text I got from a longtime NFL man whose opinion I trust: “I don’t like the Mario signing. He’s a declining player that will shut down when things go south. It’s about identity. Who do you want to be as a team?”

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I saw that. I’m not worried until I have something to worry about. Let’s see how he works here before we get all bent out of shape. I think he’s a great fit for us, as long as he’s healthy. He hated standing up in Rex’s defense last year as an OLB, he’s better as a 4-3 DE with his hand in the ground.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

One man’s opinion and let’s put it out there to be negative about Williams and the Dolphins. Well done Armando. SMH

None of this was out there until we signed him. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

  69. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

If Miami were to sign Bushrod or even their interest in him…..could that signal they plan on kicking BA back inside to OG?

  70. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tannenbaum when OV’s agent called about the kind of deals he’d be offered.

  71. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Bushrod is interesting. Gase was his coordinator last year. Hopefully his health checks out coming off a repaired shoulder that cost him games in 2015. He could fill either tackle spot, but has played LT before being replaced by Leno in Chicago.
Him & Sam Young would give us plenty of OT depth.

  72. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

So the Raidaz ended up signing Sean Smith, wow 4yrs $40M….hope he doesn’t drop that bonus check on the way to deposit it.

  73. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Robert Ayers & now Jason Jones will be visiting Miami for a spot opposite Mario.

  74. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

They were using PFF stats to verify the OV signing this morning. So what did these PFF experts see that we didn’t see? They cited all his pressures, hits and elite run stopping. LOL

  75. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Right on, Dbolt!

  76. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

@flasportsbuzz: Running back CJ Anderson, who has 4.8 career average in 3 yrs, visiting Dolphins, per A. Schefter. Restricted FA,low tender.Played for Gase.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I was mentioning looking at him yesterday once I lost my Miller. Anderson could excel in this offense, he also had big play abilities.
If not him, then we could look at Alfred Morris, bring him back to Fla & make OD a fan of Tbomb again 😉

  86. D's avatar D says:

GD, i just said the reason they cut him wasn’t his wife. TBH it may have factored in but it was a small factor. If it was the main reason we shouldn’t be in the football business. Truth is Grimes was already a prime target, she just highlighted him so they wouldnt miss.

  87. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    I don’t get it either

Why do people put out misinformation out the push ups, etc.

I admit I don’t love Alonso and Maxwell
but so far, as of day 1 of FA, I like t he Dolphins approach

I do not want a spending spree

gotta get that vet OG though

I’m curious to see if we sign a vet RB on the cheap too
    I don’t think it necessary
but it might work out for a year

  88. D's avatar D says:

I really hope our secondary winds up with Hargreaves opposite Maxwell. Now that i know the type of CB they are looking for im am 100% certain Hargreaves is the best one n the draft for us. If by some miracle we can get him, a secondary of Maxwell Alibaba Jones and Hargreaves would be a solid one.

    @ChaseGoodbread: Alabama CB Cyrus Jones had on-campus interviews w/ #Dolphins #Saints #Lions #Patriots #Browns Tuesday.

    • D's avatar D says:

He’d be a GREAT nickle CB and with the pluses in the return game he makes some sense but i think Bobby McCain looked pretty good at NB last year too. Jones so-so matches our scheme, he is more a pure cover guy though, fairly aggressive.

  92. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Agree on Lippett. I think it would be great if he grabs a starting spot, but I don’t think at this point we can count on it. Maybe he has a real strong training camp and preseason, and makes it happen.

    • D's avatar D says:

Id like it if he was competing with guy like Hargreaves though because i feel certain we can rely on him, and then if Lippett challenges for a spot then we cut Maxwell next year and Lippet takes over.

  94. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Lippett played well last season

but yeah – you can’t go into the season saying he’s my guy
I think there are decent CBs in the draft

We might be able to get a DJ White on day 3
    and hey…we still have that 4th rounder….lol

  95. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

CJ Anderson is a small back
and he does not have a history of a lot of carries
    but that can work

if we sign him I would like to see 3 backs being worked in
Ajayi – CJ Anderson – some one else

    I’m a Jordan Howard fan

We might be able to use that 4th rounder on him…..lol
