And today I have a running back for you.
A running back who powers through defenders like a machine that won’t go down!
Jordan Howard is in this alien’s assessment, the most physical back in the 2016 draft.
Yeah, sure Derrick Henry is bigger, but he doesn’t run at guys like Howard does.
at 216 pounds and under 6’0, he is not exactly the next Marshawn Lynch.
You keep thinking about that as he runs you over!
Or you can be a smart human and get out of his way!
In 2015 Howard rushed for over 1200 yards while at Indiana against some pretty stiff Big 10 competition. That was Howard’s only year at Indiana.
Howard was at UAB before Indiana. You know UAB right? The school that dropped football. You feel bad for those kids right?
Well don’t feel too bad for Howard. Transferring to Indiana probably got him to be a Day 2 pick in 2016.
In his college career at both UAB and Indiana, Howard rushed for 3,681 yards.
He didn’t catch a lot of passes. He had 24 total receptions for 261 yards.
but both running and receiving he tallied 27 touchdowns!
The guy can produce and can be a workhorse. Of course when he gets to the NFL he will probably share carries with another NFL back, like most teams use backs these days.
I bet he makes the most of those opportunities!
What really stands out about Howard is his running style.
He just never goes down!

Not a day 1 draft pick – He stays up

That’s exactly why you make coaching changes that bring a better & workable system for the players. The NFL is the best of the best. But sometimes us casual fans are easy to jump to conclusions. Oh he sucks! LOL
it’s usually a fine line between winning & losing. With all the parity in the NFL, the top talent that’s on every roster, many times 1-3 plays a bounce of the ball the right or wrong way means the difference.
I just remember both Gase & Joseph emphasizing in their pressers how their scheme would take care of many issues we’ve seen. I guess we’ll find out.
We can only hope that Gase and Co. can finally do what the past HC’s have not. Philbin was awful in that regard.

In that article it said Aikens will learn both CB and S.
Didn’t it say they wanted him to re-learn CB? Either way I’d place money that he’s being moved permanently to CB and could be moved to S in emergency situations.
He’ll likely be used as depth at both positions. He’s a good STs player so having him backup both positions increases his value on game day.

Grimes had a down year last year but then again the entire D unit did as well.
I don’t think it meant much that he was burned by Watkins & Odell Beckham as both those guys roasted plenty of DB. Beckham’s TD against Grimes came on a play where only the WR had a chance, diving and making a great play. Last year vs the Jets, the lone Marshall TD came with Brandon lined up in the slot and a safety/LB assignment failure. Revis got smoked by Watkins last year several times but anyway Grimes is gone and a younger player with a potential to bounce back to form is now on the team. The Fins also have some rookies that might be able to step up in Lippett & McCain.
I think it meant a lot because he’s only getting older, and if you have to pay him $9.5M, plus, his wife is a freaking nightmare, that weighs in on why he was let go.

I think the wife thing is just an excuse; I don’t think she was a deal breaker. In any case, new contracts or existing ones are always about future performance and there was a chance for Miami to get a younger vet who is coming off an off year (and Dolphins take advantage of Philadelphia’s grudge against Chip Kelly)

The overriding point in Grimes is he got owned within the division. 2 games alone Marshall had 259yds. Watkins had 207yds in 2 games against Miami….this includes him missing a majority of game 1 w/ injury. Once Grimes started declining a little bit the size and speed difference within the division became extremely pronounced this year.
Also one major advantage for Maxwell is of course his ability to take on contact onroutes where a WR usually likes to push before he cuts back in or out or down. We saw Grimes fail a few times in that regard (even if it’s technically a penalty for a WR to do that)
Aikes 6’1 208.The Maxwell signing. It shows you that VJ wants bigger CB’s in his scheme. We had way too many small corners. That’s another reason Grimes got the pink slip too.
I don’t think VJ decides who stays/goes. He has input like anyone else but the GM and company will decide what they feel is the right guy. Maxwell is 4 years younger and rated similarly to Grimes last year so there’s a better chance he can bounce back than Grimes with his age.
Add Lippett to the mix at 6-3 190 and you’ve got some real good size out there. Lippett said this offseason he wants to put on weight, get stronger and work on his footwork.
McCain seems headed to slot corner where he can use his quickness against those gnatty WRs.
I hope the Fins take a chance on UMiami S Deon Bush. I’m tired of the team ignoring the position in the draft. Walt Aiken was a poor attempt as he never really settled in a S in college.
I don’t think a 4th round pick is a poor attempt and it’s not like he can’t improve his game. Reshad Jones wasn’t all that his first couple of season either.

Two big pro days are on the menu, as Michigan and California perform for scouts. A large crowd is expected to watch Jared Goff throw.
San Jose State
The Spartans’ workout took place on Wednesday, but almost 50 scouts were on hand to watch the three prime prospects.
Tyler Ervin sat on most of his Combine numbers, but was put through a position workout that lasted 45 minutes. Ervin was put through running back drills, ran receiver routes and also participated in punt/kick return drills. Multiple sources told me Ervin looked good and could sneak into the third round. The Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders all sent their offensive coordinators. The Cincinnati Bengals already worked out Ervin privately.
Cornerback Cleveland Wallace III also looked good in drills. He improved on his Combine numbers in the 40 (4.58 seconds) and vertical jump (37 inches). The New York Jets and New Orleans Saints have shown a lot of interest in Wallace.

Info from the just-completed Stanford pro day is coming in.
Quarterback Kevin Hogan threw the ball well and was on point and accurate with his passes throughout the workout. I’m told while he still has a slight wind-up, Hogan’s delivery is significantly more compact than it was last season or during the Senior Bowl and much better than the Combine. I mentioned a while ago the Buffalo Bills like Hogan, and it should come as no surprise that general manager Doug Whaley and director of college scouting were on hand.
Tight end Austin Hooper ran 40 times of 4.65/4.68, then caught the ball well during drills. Teams are concerned about Hooper’s blocking and it may take him some time to develop in that area. Several mentioned he’s the type of player you may take off the field on third and short. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter closely inspected the tight ends most of the day.
Devon Cajuste ran times in the 40 that ranged between 4.44 to 4.54. The college receiver did a bit of work at tight end today.
Linebacker Blake Martinez was exceptional. He measured 6013, 242 pounds, touched 34 inches in the vertical jump, then looked great in position drills.
Offensive guard Josh Garnett also looked really good in drills, easily moving about the field and showing good punch. 49ers coach Chip Kelly was enamored with Garnett, spending time with the offensive lineman and seen talking to his agent.

Reshad definitely didn’t blossom overnight but he had talent and always played the same position since HS -> Safety. What I meant by poor attempt is drafting someone in the first 3-4 RDs who’s flip flopping at different positions. If you want a real FS, you get someone who’s been playing S for a bit or invest in a upper echelon CB and then move him to FS if he can’t hack it in the NFL.
Al, my post never said VJ decides who stays or goes, but as you mentioned, you can bet he’s laid out want he wants & who he thinks can be successful in his defense.
No doubt, Tannenbaum has said as much about fits in VJ’s defense.
Clemson edge rusher Shaq Lawson said he “definitely” does not need surgery on his right shoulder.
“My shoulder’s fine,” Lawson explained. “It’s something I’ve been playing with for three years, so I’m ready to go get (the recheck) over with and show them I won’t have a problem with it.” The talented pass rusher added the Jaguars were the team to ask for the recheck, so that is why he is headed back to Indianapolis in early April. Lawson even explained why he wore a brace on the shoulder, saying it popped out during his first season at Clemson but was “nothing too serious.” Lawson started just one season and did not miss a game due to this specific injury.

That’s what I’ve been thinking and saying Tim. I don’t expect Wake to be ready at the start of the season, and even if he is, he’s not going to be used the same as he used to be.

I also have been saying that Wake wont be ready, i think if he is, he’s rushing things. Again, wont be ready by beginning of the year, will be used sparingly = lower the pay. Its their money and we arent cap hurt this year, i just dont see paying someone to be something they are not and to me it would have been better if they cut Wake once Williams was signed and then put more of that to getting another pass rusher or sweetening the deal for one of the top OG prospects. They obviously have a different vision of what Wake is going to be able to contribute to this team.

I’ve heard Jim Washburn can rub people the wrong way. He got booted in Philly because he wore out his welcome with both the coaches and players.
Maybe he’ll keep his hands to himself in Miami.
He has coached the ‘wide 9’ defensive front in both PHI and DET so it sounds like we’ll definitely be employing that.
Eagles pass rusher Brandon Graham does not look back fondly on his old position coach Jim Washburn.
Graham looks back on his two seasons playing for Washburn, in 2011 and 2012, as a miserable time. Washburn’s negativity took its toll.
“The low point was when Wash was here,” Graham told CSNPhilly.com. “That was my low point. Because Wash would make you feel bad, boy. Like you can’t play at all.”
The 65-year-old Washburn, who now coaches the defensive line in Detroit, is an old-school coach who isn’t above screaming obscenities at a player who isn’t giving his all. Some players love him, but his approach can grate on people — including former Eagles head coach Andy Reid, who fired Washburn during the 2012 season. Graham says he couldn’t take it much longer and was relived when Reid sent Washburn packing.

Draft above turned out about the best of any i have done in a while in my opinion. Only real question i had when drafting was Deion Jones or Brothers when i picked in the 3rd, never really get a chance at Kentrell in the 3rd most times, so had to think about it a little lol.
It looked pretty good but I don’t know anything about the last two guys.
That receiver is a beast. If he had played for either of the other two Mississippi schools he would probably be ranked much higher. He was pretty much the only offensive weapon Southern had.

Maggitt is a high motor player, really solid, coming off injury last year but should be ready by PS. He is aso a really natural leader, and get a whole team pumped up, really good locker room presence. I think he could develop into a starter but he would probably need a year or so to earn it. He also is a really high energy high motor player.
Armando is on one of his silly numbers crunches figuring out how much Matt Moore has been paid by Miami based on how many passes he’s thrown. LOL

Dolphins backup QB Matt Moore paid $14.125M from 2012-15. He threw 30 passes during that time. Moore signed 2-yr deal this wk for $3.55M.
