The Wedge Scouting Report: Paul Perkins, RB

Wedge ID PaulPerkins3

This new virus I am developing is going to be so hard to stop.

It’s not the biggest virus I’ve made to destroy a planetary population.  It’s not the fastest spreading either.  But its really hard to stop.  I’m gonna call it the “Shifty Virus”.

Kinda reminds me of a shifty running back from UCLA

PaulPerkins4

Paul Perkins was a very productive back for the
Bruins in his time at UCLA.

In fact, the undersized back won the 2015 Doak Walker Award given to the nation’s best running back.

I’m guessing the voters noted his 14 rushing touchdowns in 2015.  Or maybe they even considered his career 29 rushing touchdowns.

Oregon senior defensive tackle Wade Keliikipi (92) attempts to tackle UCLA freshman running back Paul Perkins (24) during the third quarter. The No. 3 Oregon Ducks play the No. 12 UCLA Bruins at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore. on Oct. 26, 2013. (Michael Arellano/Emerald)

But Perkins was not used solely as a, rusher at UCLA.  He also had 3 career receiving touchdowns, gathering more than 2o catches over the last 3 seasons and gaining more than 200 receiving yards each of those three seasons.

Perkins looks like a good fit for this Dolphin’s offense since he can run and catch.

But his pass blocking leads a little bit to be desired.

PaulPerkins5

Maybe he should take pointers from his father, “Bruce” who played fullback in the NFL or his uncle Don, who played 8 seasons with the Cowboys.

But don’t pay too much attention to the blocking, he’s undersized and he can learn.

Instead, take a look at his rushing stats.  1343 yards in 2015 and 1575 in 2014.

How did Perkins get those yards?

PaulPerkins2

Well, the 210 pounder did not run through people and his 4.56 40 speed isn’t blazing by NFL standards.

But a jump cut here – a change in direction there.

This guy is shifty.  You might see a few defenders lose their shoes trying to stop him.

Which reminds me of a certain virus I’m making to destroy a species.

PerkinsVirus

If Paul Perkins was an alien weapon of destruction he would be “Wedge’s Prototype #453 Killing virus a/k/a the Shifty Virus”

Derrick Henry had 7 broken tackles last year
    for comparison Fournette had 22

Where do you get that stat from? Piggy Football Focus?

Strengths One of the biggest running backs you will ever see. Can be a violent runner without even trying. Pummels tacklers with forward lean and dynamite behind his pads. Gives run-support cornerbacks bad dreams. Rare top-end speed for a runner his size. Long strides from second to third level cut into reaction time for safeties and often leave them a step short and grasping for air. Effective in zone, gap and power schemes. Rarely fatigues and wears down defenses as game goes on. Had 29.6 percent of his explosive carries come in the fourth quarter. Makes consistent, initial reads as a zone runner. Against Mississippi State, took outside zone run and cut it all the way back across formation outracing defense for 65-yard touchdown. Led nation in missed tackles forced with 60. Uses subtle change of direction on the second level while keeping runs north/south. Used as a possession bully in short yardage spots and when Alabama wanted to impose their will.

I always hate the “he runs high criticism” but Henry defiantely runs high

This is a fairly positive scouting report
I think Most of the scouting reports on Henry are positive

but they do say he runs high
and they also say, he takes a while to get started as I’ve been saying all morning

Brandon Jacobs, however, in his prime would be great if that is what Henry is

        My case isn’t that he’s not Jacobs-like
its that he is not Lynch

        I don’t hate the player
I think the 3rd round is a better place for him than the 2nd though

    • D's avatar D says:

He also wasnt touched much either, he broke away clean, and then turned on the jets. Look at his footage, he didnt have to break tackles, he was gashing defenses for chunks of yardage. Fournette is a great RB, elusive, can pop out from the middle of the fray and make a cut and be gone, but him being great but being used more gashing the middle of the defense than Henry breaking clean and bouncing it outside doesnt mean he cant break tackles, he just didnt have to.

You dont get 2200+ yards in a season in the SEC without doing something right and if the 7 broken tackles is true, that tells you he was supremely good evading tacklers.

  4. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Mike, I’m sure there will be both real good picks mixed in with some huh’s???

  5. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Anyone think that the Titans and Browns won’t have have really high draft grades? Teams with multiple picks usually get automatic good grades in April. LOL

  6. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Clemson LB B.J. Goodson visited the Giants and Colts last week, according to Aaron Wilson.
Goodson completed a combination of 15 visits and workouts during the draft process, and other visits include the Broncos, Jaguars, Dolphins and Jets. This draft might lack day three linebacker talent and depth, and Goodson could be one of the more sought after prospects in that range.

this was in reply to you Piggy.

    • D's avatar D says:

Also Henry does not run high, he does lose his lean once he clears the LOS, but he takes the snap and hits the line low.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

He ran through some big holes
but to his credit he found those holes, hit those holes and was able to exploit them with good speed

I’m just saying – he is not as physical as his size indicates

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Piggy

Who cares whether the tackles are broken or missed? The point is, he’s gone either way? Do you give more credit for getting hit and escaping than making a guy miss entirely? I think the result is the most important thing, not how you get there. I get you think he should just knock everyone down because he’s big, but he won’t last very long like that. I give him props on his talent at 6’3″ 245 being able to make guys miss.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

You take Henry & the rest of us will take another RB.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I’m saying
      HE ISN’T LYNCH
      for the 100th time

      not that he sucks

He is not a physical runner
he doesn’t fight for extra yardage
He takes what is there for him
and he hits that spot quickly
To me he shows excellent vision and that is a huge + for RBs

People see this enormous guy and think he is going to go over guys all day
      He is not IMO

But I bet if he had 30 carries in a game he would have 140 yards and the defense will be worn down from playing against him

      If he has 12 carries
      and Ajayi has 12 carries
he might finish with 24 yards or something like that

If we wanted Henry we would really have to want a feature back

not some one to split carries with Ajayi
I guess you can make the dsame argument for Elliot
although I think Elliot does more with less carries

  11. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Seems Son has a bit of a quandary . . .

He LOVES to hate Charlie Casserly, but . . . .

Charlie Casserly mocked Shaq Lawson to us at #13

  12. D's avatar D says:

2200+ yards, 28 TD’s 5.6 yard per carry average behind one of the worst OL’s in recent past for Bama, oh and the 5.6 average is his career worst per rush average. The dude is legit.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

the worst OL for Alabama in recent history is still better than a lot of NFL teams….lol

we don’t know the names of the Bama OL now, but they will probably all be drafted in the next couple of years, they just happen to follow the 2014 exodus of OL to the NFL

  13. D's avatar D says:

As i have said before, my mind is set on Drake as the best fit for being a tandem with Ajayi and the round we can get him in is going to be better value. Sill that in no way means i think Henry wouldnt work for us, and second round is the right value.

  14. D's avatar D says:

Piggy that OL at Alabama was a bad one, by Alabama standards at least. Look at their OL draft projections, they have 1 OL projected to be drafted early, likely second round, and then the next one is projected was down to 6-FA…. Henry made a lot of it happen by finding daylight and making those run’s himself. Avoiding a tackle vs taking one on and bulling them over to me i could care less how you get past the guy, just do so and pick up yards. Hell truthfully it doesnt say anything that he cant power through guys, its says he was smart enough to know when avoiding the tackle we give him the most chance to pick up extra yards. You cant get 2200 yards in the SEC without being a very skilled and capable runner.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Alabama standards are pretty high
They started a RS Freshman which is pretty unusual for them

I know you love your SEC
but Tre Mason had 1800 yards in his final year at Auburn and a little over 200 last year for the Rams (who drafted Gurley)

as a matter of fact, the NFL is littered with Alabama backs that havet been able to produce in the NFL

Trent Richardson had 21 TDs in his final season at Alabama

Casserly also mocked Parker for us last year.
    —–
But then again Casserly was the one that picked Mario Williams over Reggie Bush then re-signed due to the fan/media reaction.
However, fans probably could never forgive him for selecting Carr at QB (like Tannenbaum picking Sanchez), LOL.

  19. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Piggy,
Tannenbaum draft history at NY saw him pick 2 OL (D’Brickeshaw Ferguson & Nick Mangold) in RD 1 his first year as GM (2006).
After that it was the following for RD1:
    2007: Darrelle Revis #14 overall.
2008: Vernon Gohlston #6 overall; Dustin Keller #30 overall
    2009: Mark Sanchez #5 overall
    2010: Kyle Wilson #29 overall
    2011: Muhammed Wilkerson #30 overall
    2012: Quinton Couples #16 overall

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

So given how well Revis worked out for him….

      just saying….

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

He missed badly on 4 of the last 5…scary.
Hope he’s learned some lessons…like listen more to your personnel guys & coaches.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

good news is Wilkerson and Revis were very good picks

Actually if you count 200767 Ferguson and Mangold were both good picks

so its hits on 4 of the last 8
50% Is probably not very good for the 1st round
but his hits are multiple pro bowlers

  20. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

  21. D's avatar D says:

Being worried about a guy in this years draft because of another guy we drafted previously is kinda silly.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

      I’m just a silly boy…lol
I’m saying you have to be cautious. Ziggy was said to be even better in talent as Dion was coming out. So why move up to 3rd to take Dion. Could’ve likely got one of the 2 by just waiting.
Then the whole trade up to acquire DT3 didn’t make sense either with the other players on the board after him.

Ireland & Co. didn’t seem to build very good boards by placing value & steals where it should be.

I don’t want to keep repeating the same mistakes is all.

bout oinking time some one noticed a blog was up today abput a prospect….lol

      • D's avatar D says:

I mentioned him with my first post. I have been mocking him as a later round fallback potion. Like him, pretty much agree exactly with what ya said about him

  24. D's avatar D says:

So far, outside or Richardson (which ill give you was a colossal fail, and really unexpected) most their backs have done pretty decent.

Mark Ingram is averaging 4.3 – 4.6 a carry most years, and 750-950 yards per in a tandem back system.

Eddie Lacy outside last year when he was injured, just a little less than 1200 yards a year and a 4.1-4.6 yard per carry average. Last year still averaged 4.1 and had over 750 yards, despite missing games due to injuries.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If you were to argue that you don’t get 1700 yards and 21 tds in the SEC referring to Richardson, you be dodging tomatoes today….lol

I’m just saying that the SEC has many productive college players
many of whom turn out to be good pros
      and others who don’t

I’m not sure the stats mean so much especially in that system

  25. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Al, Tannenbaum in his recent presser with Grier said Chris controls the board and puts the grade on the prospects. The 1st rd pick or trade up or down will likely be a collective decision including Ross and Gase. They’re all going to want to be on the same page with that pick.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think you have to be with a new coach. Trading picks away hurts a coach getting his people in, so if you want to trade one away be sure that the coach thinks its worth what they give up.

      • D's avatar D says:

I think though those guys make the decision ultimately, and i may actually be wishful thinking that they give a shit about coaches perspective lol. Who knows for sure really?

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Ross will be on the phone with Tampa Bay area land management & paying them to impose imminent domain on OD’s crib. 😉

  26. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

  27. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Who cares???? lol

    That’s typical scouting report nonsense

STRENGTHS – Led NCAA in missed tackles.

WEAKNESSES – Gets tackled too easily

    Huh????

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Strengths: Willingness to do what it takes to win
Weaknesses: Not willing to do what I takes to win

I’m just saying how I viewed Henry when I watched him

I really wanted to like the prospect as a power back
      b/c I really want a power back

I just don’t see him that way

I would have had the explosion coming out the other end if they were going to call it an Adam bomb, big miss on some extra funny there.

  29. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike Francesa said that deflate gate wasn’t so much about the PSI in the balls, it was payback for spygate when Goodell destroyed evidence and the owners were furious. This time they told Goodell make the Pats pay or else. Then the courts overturned it. Now the courts overturned it the other way stating the NFL punishment rules were fair based on their CBA agreement and that Brady destroying his phone was more damming than the PSI in the footballs.

He said he knows this because he spoke to a few owners (obviously not naming them) but one of them said if the Pats get away with this again he’ll start a mutiny against Goodell.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I tend to think its less about deflating balls and more about the way the Patriots dealt witht he investigation – destroying cell phones, asking to stop interviewing witnesses, releasing their own statement

just not being cooperative all all

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

All that as well. But the initial feeling after it came out was the owners saying enough is enough with this team. Goodell is hired by the owners so they can replace him.

  36. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

No doubt, but I tend to think that won’t be happening. They know what they have in the guy, I’d be surprised if gets past 10

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

They don’t know what they have in the guy. You could end up with a guy missing a lot of time with nagging knee injuries, kind of like Charles Clay who was drafted with some knee issues. But he was a 6th rd pick.

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Piggy

I can’t see the Giants, or us for that matter letting him get by.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      You figure
if he slips early its base don the risk of him coming back from injury and teams like the Giants and us both have the same reason to pass

  38. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

ATL didn’t draft Jack yet though, just speculation. I’d be concerned using a 1st rd pick on a guy with a knee injury but you have to believe in your own research.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m not so much discussing the reality of it, just the hypothetical. If there was concern that he might not play this season, he would fall a lot further #17. Since the mock draft is hypothetical to begin with, we can surely discuss it in that context.

  39. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Mike

    I don’t know
I don’t know when the value outweighs the risk

    who knows

maybe one team believe she fine and 31 other’s don’t
    (Piggy shrugs)

  40. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Can’t teams do private workouts? I think you can see what you need to see in that workout, wouldn’t you?

  41. D's avatar D says:

Depending on what YOUR doctor says with regards to his status you make a decision as to how that affects his position on YOUR draft board. I think you might easily have knee concerns be different depending on the phy that examines them, some Dr’s may also be cautiously optimistic vs another thats more err on the side of caution. I think you could have a team like Atlanta with a good at pick 17, and a team like us that says not good at 13, there isnt going to be a universal feeling toward him necessarily and also some teams have more to lost than others if they pick and it it doesn’t work out. Lots of variables.

    • D's avatar D says:

There is a bunch of talented guys to choose from, so if there is any big concern i dont know that its not completely possible he would fall in the first. If there is any concern i would feel better with us passing on him as well. If he falls, especially with most people know how talented he is, i think you have to be concerned being the person taking that shot on him, or you have to be in a position where you are confidant that you can live with him potentially never playing a snap for ya.

  42. D's avatar D says:

Again, somewhat playing devils advocate here, but lets say we are picking at 13, he’s there, but the Dr’s have said, there is a moderate chance for him to have a fairly consistent injury history, and likely you get a starter for about half of his rookie contract, the other half potentially injured. Would you say oh hell yeah let me draft this guy at 13? or are you saying play it safe and take a guy like Lawson, Doss, Floyd, Ragland, or any number of guys we have suggested for that position? If im not 100% sure he good to go, and doesnt have an injury that could continue to plague him through his career, im not draft him despite his potential.

  43. D's avatar D says:

We wont know the risk Piggy, the team has Dr’s to tell them their medical opinion, so FO will know the risk, so if he drops to us at 13 and we pass, people shouldnt get pissed, you should understand that it was too risky and they had a prospect they felt more comfortable they would get more out of. Any of these guys CAN get injued, but starting out with a thing that some are saying indicates you are at much higher risk for re-occuring injury, isnt good and we cant really afford to draft yet another 1st round disappointment.

  44. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh I forgot to mention, I think I might have seen Ray Rice this weekend in South Jersey. It looked like him, the size of the man fit the bill, short but powerful looking and the tats matched what he has. He was with a woman but it was last second that I noticed them and didn’t pursue it.

  45. D's avatar D says:

I personally though the report about Jack was more pre-draft crap, as the Hargreaves thing turned out to be. Tim, that was an official report that Jack’s knee has that defect? or is it still a rumor?

Can see it now, someone has it all recorded on their phone as Tim runs up to see if thats Ray Rice only to catch the infamous pimp hand and crumble to the ground. Rice later grabs Tim by the shirt collar and drags him to get medical attention.

Redskins GM Scot McCloughan says Junior Galette’s (Achilles’) “explosion” is already back.
“He’s still rehabbing, but he looks excellent,” McCloughan said. Galette is now eight months removed from going down late in Redskins camp. An Achilles’ tear is still one of the more difficult injuries to come back from, but there have been more success stories in recent years.

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Look at this way, let’s say we do trade back up to #8 for a 3rd and a swap of a 4th and 5th to equal the 250 point difference, we would have 3 starters for a 1st, a 3rd and swapping two picks a handful of spots if we just go by the book. It’s 3 for 2.

They dont always come out even ya know. Its whatever the other team agrees on. We moved up 9 spots to 3rd from 12th and gave up a just a 2nd round selection and a swap of 1sts. Its can be way more than the combined value and way less, the value chart is a jumping off point at best.

    • D's avatar D says:

If we move up to 8th i would expect it would be in exchange for swap of picks and the 3rd, not some big convoluted exchange just to wring out the extra 30 points.

Piggy if that draft actually comes into being, i likely spend a good bit of time at the psychiatrist with them trying to figure out how i had such a quick onset tourettes. Probably will still be doing CT’s and shit on me with me still twitching and blurting obscenities.

  57. D's avatar D says:

I mentioned a while back about us possibly trading back into the first round for a guy, is still think that could be an option for us depending on who is still on the board and the asking price, but on top of us possibly securing another 1st round selection (which might not be heads and shoulders above a second round guy) there is the fact that a first rounder has the option for the 5th year extension, which in the case of a stud find would give you a somewhat cheap way to hold on to that player one more year until a deal gets worked out, and then if need be a year to franchise them for a 6th year. It might be worth it just for having that option.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I don’t think it’s true that a 1st rounder has the option of a 5th yr extension. What I remember is it only applies to the top 10 selections in rd 1. Parker’s contract is only for 4 yrs.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t get it, our kicking wasn’t bad last year. Franks demonstrated a strong leg, good on touch backs and he wasn’t bad on FGs and XPTs. He was also an undrafted rookie out of nowhere so you would think he could get better as well.

A pick like that would aggravate me.

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

you know that kicker is probably the best ever…. There is on average 13 possessions during a NFL game and when a kicker can kick FG’s of over 50 yrds with great percentages then our offense doesn’t have to work as hard to score. Did I mention the kid kicked a 58 fg in district championship final play to win the game 23-24. The team then went on to win the state championship. The guy is a folk hero in S.Florida. Maybe he can bring good luck to the team also.He has won state championships 2x and college national championship.

  62. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    jetssuck

We’ve discussed this already. I don’t care if he can kick 100 yard FG’s. We need to score TD’s, and stop the other teams from scoring TD’s, and a K in the 3rd RD can’t help us with that

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

on average how many td’s are scored during a nfl game? On average each team averages 12-13 possessions a game.Everyone wants more TD’s but the reality is not many td’s a game are scored on average.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

On average, we only scored less than 3, and we allowed more than 3. If we want to be a playoff team, we have to score at least 24, and give up less than 20.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We attempted one FG per game last year 16 total and 36 XPTs.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We need to flip-flop last years offense and defense, scoring and points allowed. If we do that, odds are we’re in the playoff hunt.

  63. the number of fg’s we scored in ’15 was down significantly to ’14 but the reason was because our offense couldn’t move the ball into scoring position. so, we didn’t even have the chance to attempt those fg’s.

  64. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You know who can take a kicker in the 3rd is the Titans and Browns with all their extra picks.

  65. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

In response to Omar’s top 25, he of course had to homer a UM player, Artie Burns, in at 25. Burns’ name fits, he’s got good ball skills, but he’s too stiff, not much of a tackler (could easily change). He seems to have something about him, maybe just a swagger, but not a top 25 player, maybe 25th in the 2nd round.

  66. I think that when you’re looking at the team getting some comp picks next yr, one of which is going to be a 3rd rd comp, we may be looking more at the possibility of them trying to use one or two picks from ’17 to secure another 2nd or 3rd round pick this year.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      That’s not a bad idea.

Do you have a better chance to land 3 starters per draft, if you have more picks or you trade up?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ve made that case but you better be right on next years comp picks that can be traded as well for the first time.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

You can’t trade next yrs comp pick this yr, so what do have to be right about?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I didn’t say we could trade comp picks this year. We were talking about making trades this year banking on what we think we’ll have extra next year with comp picks.

I think what Lou was suggesting was trading our slotted future picks next year to upgrade this year believing we will be rewarded a 3rd, 4th and 7th next year in the form of comp picks which can then be traded in 2017 for the first time.

We better be right on that or we’ll have egg on our face.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We think that way Tim, but the team doesn’t and they’ve said as much in the past. They make trades based on needs, value, or opportunity not, because they have an extra pick next yr. If the trade makes sense now they do it.

I didn’t say you said we could trade the comp picks this yr, but you brought it up out of the blue, so I mentioned it. I know what you were talking about.

Our team got egg on their face when they made the deal for Maxwell and Alonso, unwarranted I think, but they don’t care about egg on their face, they just care about winning. Have you ever heard a GM say he’s afraid to make a trade, because of what someone might think?

  67. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Does anyone really think Brady is going to be suspended when we play them in week 2?

  68. To me, that’s more probable than them moving up in the first rd. I also don’t think they’re moving down from #13. I think you run the risk of losing out on someone you may really like by moving even 5 spots.

  69. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Lou, on trading next year’s Comp picks in a deal that’s part of this year’s draft.
How can you trade something that hasn’t been awarded yet. It will never happen this draft or any other future draft.

    • I’m not saying deal the comps. what I’m saying is we’re getting a 3rd for OV. So, we’re going to have two 3rd rd picks next yr. We could use our 3rd from next year to acquire another pick in this draft.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Well, the FO better have their ducks in a row when they do that, be sure they will actually be awarded one, and of course realize that all comp picks come after the 32nd position in a given round.

  70. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Folks, as of right now we have a full 1-7 draft picks next year. Then if we are awarded a 3, 4 and 7 in the form of comp picks, if our math is correct in the compensatory formula which I’m sure we have a dept. that crunches those numbers, you can may make future deals. But we better be right on those comp picks.

  74. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

We have no idea what comp picks we are going to get next year. The assumption that Vernon will garner us a 3rd round pick is based upon the assumption that he will meet the playing time portion of the calculation they use to determine the level of compensation. It is a weighted combination of several things including salary, playing time, accolades and “other” considerations. Vernon can tear something in training camp and throw the hole equation off.

Let’s trade up and get Ramsey

you think he is worth that. everything others post on here is like he cant be a corner but a safety and is some guy in a in between position worth that. i am a big florida school fan and watch a lot of fsu games with my daughter and he was all that in college and more. but if he cant play corner in the nfl as some on here have said do you really trade up for a player like that. not that i would mind hell i am all for the fins draft being nothing but Seminoles, gators and canes. i think they are some of the best athletes but then again that is pretty much all the college ball i watch.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      He’s an elite safety

      And a pretty good CB

So he should play safety if we draft him

It was just a thought who knows what we’ll do. But check this out – what if!
    SD takes Tunsil
    Dallas takes Bosa
Suddenly Ramsey is at 5 and what if Jax goes Buckner he gets more and more reasonably priced.

  77. uwantwat's avatar uwantwat says:

I would love to take that PK in either the 3rd or 4th just to watch this place melt down. On a serious note I have read the reports on the young man and he is rated the best ever. So he must be good. Better value than Sturgis in the 5th. What round did Nugent get drafted? I think that was the 3rd round.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      He’s very accurate
I’ve watched him at fsu and it was like guaranteed he would make the fg

But screw kickers in the 3rd round

  78. We have a pretty good idea of what we’re going to get because the value of the contract signed holds the most weight. that puts them in the round they’re going to be in to start and then some weight is given to playing time and a little is given to post season honors. however, value of the contract is by far the #1 determining factor. Barring injury, playing time would be a given. So, the 3rd, 4th and 7th should hold up unless there’s an injury.

  79. I don’t know if you guys have seen this but this is the best “draft pick trade value chart” I’ve found because it’s interactive. plug in any team and it highlights their picks: http://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp?RequestTeam=mia

I’m guessing he means trade the 2nd
And then use the 3rd on smith

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Peterson and Mathieu go to Arizona and suddenly they have one of the better defenses in the league. With Jones and Maxwell already then add in Ramsey we become pretty formidable.

Maybe we trade a 2nd and pick up an good lb in the 3rd of 4th

Even if smith is off the table what about a Deion Jones

I like CB DJ white a little lighter

We wouldn’t get an edge guy if we gave away a 2nd or 3rd to move up to get Ramsey
But we can probably get good RBs and LBs in the 3rd and 4th
And those are 2 of our big needs

      • except we can’t stop the run with Koa “I Misi the tackle” Misi and his band of merry linebacker misfits.

  81. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Prof Lou

We take a LB with the next pick after Ramsey

    • we’ve had marginal talent at the linebacker position for too long now and we’ve got NO competition at the position except for possibly Alonso if he stays healthy. As far as everyone else is concerned, I don’t think any of them have earned anything. we need to bring in talent at the position and have real competition there and make these guys earn their spots on the roster.

  82. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

No need to trade up or down; Zeke will fall to us and if not we get Dodd or Shaq or Jackson 3 and hopefully Nkemdiche will be there for our 2nd. If not, we get Garnett or Burns or Bullard. This draft is loaded. If we miss on a RB in the first, we take Prosise in the 3rd or Drake or Collins in the fourth and still get Marshall in the 6th for insurance and KR duty. We take OG Tretola or TE Higbee in the 5th for example or whatever cleanup we need to do.

This is gonna be a fun draft.

  92. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Son, that was good. The video above with Adam Levine….thx

  93. Is a running back who’s picked #13 elite? I would think an elite running back would have to be a top 5 prospect. If he’s hanging around at #13 you could probably take him at #27 because he may be a pretty good prospect but at #13 he’s not an elite player.

  94. uwantwat's avatar uwantwat says:

Lou…why did AP fall to #7 then? He was supposed to pick 1 or 2. Teams draft on what they need basically, there is only a few like the Cheats that have the luxury of taking BPA. If Zeke falls to 13 it means he was passed over for QBs-DE-DT-CB-OL and LBs. Those are the positions most of the top 12 teams need badly.

  95. uwantwat's avatar uwantwat says:

Nope…no more than RB. We have the core of a good young team needing to be fleshed out by a good draft and maybe a F/A or 2 that get cut after June the 1st. We could field a team right now with what we have and win some games. IMO of course.

Moving onto this year, I can see Tbaum making a trade with the Browns to take Zeke if he is there , just to make sure this year. Much as I like Jay I think Zeke is a much better RB.
