OMG! The Draft is Here!!

2016 NFL Draft

We’ve talked about it for a long time, in fact, some of us started talking about it before we drafted last year, in the 2015 NFL draft.  It never stops.  The NFL Draft, the place where dreams are either realized, or crushed.  There is always hope, always, because where else can you bring in new, young talent, and the potential to bring in 8 or more new faces to your team in one weekend.  This only happens with the NFL, and then after the draft, even more excitement is generated by the signing of players who went undrafted.  Sometimes, a player who was expected to be a mid round pick falls completely off the draft board, or in last year’s case, a possible top 10 pick, like La’el Collins, who due to bizarre circumstances with a murder case he had no part in yet was being questioned by police, had all 32 teams wipe him right off their draft boards.

Tomorrow will begin the madness that is the 2016 NFL Draft.  The Miami Dolphins currently hold 8 picks, starting from the #13 pick, #42, #73, #107, #147, #186, #227, and finally #231.  There is no guarantee that the Dolphins will use all those picks to get 8 players, they may trade up early in the 1st RD and use 2 or 3 picks to accomplish that.  They may trade back later in the into the 1st RD, and gain a couple of picks.  There are so many angles from which to look at either strategy, and a case can be made for both, without either of them being necessarily wrong or right.  For instance, supposedly, this draft plateaus from approximately pick #15 to pick #50, meaning the talent at #50 is nearly equal to the talent at #15.  We pick at #13, right around that imaginary line, so would trading back to pick up a couple of extra players in that range be smart?  Sure.  If all the supposed blue chippers are in the top 10, does it not make sense to trade up and get a superior talent and a player with a greater chance of making a big impact on our team right now?  Sure.

Whatever we do tomorrow, partly because of past failures, such as the Dion Jordan trade up to #3 in 2013, or just because of personal preferences, some of us will be angry at some of the selections we make, and yet others will be ecstatic.  That’s how it is.  I have to give all you guys/girls lots of credit for your dedication to the sport, and especially the entire draft process.  I know many of you tirelessly watch college football to find potential for the Miami Dolphins, and others, like myself, who don’t watch college ball, scour as many scouting reports, watch highlight reels, record and watch the entire week of Senior Bowl practices and the game itself, the same with the NFL combine.  The funny thing is, even the best of the best here, who really put in max effort, most likely don’t put in a fraction of the time our scouting staff put in, and our coaches and our GM put in.  Granted, that’s their job, we do it for (fun?).  Still, we should all probably just chill out with the negative feelings (I know I will have them), because these guys really did put in the effort to make the team better, and hopefully, it actually works.

I’m going to give you my picks for each round, without trade ups or trade downs, because those are just too hard to predict, it requires a lot of cooperation and desire from another team or two, and therefore, I’ll just do it straight up.  This draft is not who I want for our team, it’s how I expect it to happen.

RD 1 – Pick #13  RB Ohio State  – Ezekiel Elliott

First of all, let’s put that myth that if he’s elite, he’ll be gone by pick #10 nonsense, and if he’s not, he’ll be there.  Great NFL players are chosen all over the place, and these selections are made by a few parameters, GRADE, NEED (at a certain position) and VALUE.  Every team will have different metrics on those, and many teams obviously have different needs for both position, and the type of players they want to fill those positions.  For example, while Vernon Hargreaves may  be rated very high on most boards, a team that prefers bigger CB’s may not have him on their board early at all.  So back to Elliott.  He would most definitely be our best RB if he were to join our team.

Much has been made of Adam Gase’s use of a “running back by committee”.  I think it’s only fair to look at each situation, and why that may have been.  In Denver 2013,  first off, Gase had Peyton Manning., who threw the ball 659 times for nearly 5500 yards.  The Broncos drafted Montee Ball, and added him to a stable with Knowshown Moreno, Ronnie Hillman, and and CJ Anderson.  Moreno carried the ball 241 times, more than double the carries Montee Ball got at 120 carries. Is that really a RB by committee?  In 2014, again, Manning put up astronomical numbers, 597 pass attempts, over 4700 yards.  With Knowshown Moreno out of the picture, and Montee ball fat and out of shape, and fumbling often, Gase had little choice to try and find the hot hand.  CJ Anderson rushed 179 times, for 849 yards, and Ronnie Hillman 106 times, for 434.  Keep in mind, Ronnie Hillman was the better 3rd down back, and most of his action was on 3rd down, but again, the RB by committee aspect doesn’t necessarily show up, because the talent just simply wasn’t there to earn the bulk of the carries.

In Chicago, 2015, Adam Gase had 30 YO Matt Forte,  rookie Jeremy Langford, and 2nd YR RB Ka’Deem Carey.  Just for some background, Forte has never really been a bellcow RB, the most carries he had in his career was his rookie season when had a high of 316 carries.  He never broke 300 again, and has been slowly diminishing in carries the last few years, from 289 in ’13, to 266 in ’14, and last year 218.  Langford carried 148 times, and  Carey 43.  Clearly, Forte was his best guy, but at 30 YO, he didn’t overwork him, and for the most part, Chicago’s offense was a disappointment, despite Jay Cutler playing at his most efficient, with 21 TD’s and only 11 INT’s.  They sorely missed Brandon Marshall last season, and when Alshon Jeffery got hurt, that was it for this offense.

My point is, I don’t believe that Gase has a strategy to use his running backs nearly equally.  I think he had to in Denver, out of necessity, and in Chicago, he didn’t want to burn out his 30 year old star in Matt Forte.  Gase did say he wants a stable of RB’s, and I think that’s the responsible thing to do, considering what can happen if there’s a severe drop off in talent from your starter to your reserves.  make no mistake, if we draft Ezekiel Elliott, he will clearly be our best RB, and we will use him as such.   He will make a huge impact in our offense.

RD 2 – Pick #42  CB Houston – William Jackson III

We have a definite need at CB, no question about it, and we get the best we can in the 2nd RD.  Jackson gives another 6 foot CB who can play both press and zone coverage.  A good fit for what we’re looking for, Jackson will certainly be given every opportunity to start opposite Byron Maxwell.

RD 3 – Pick #73  OG Stanford – Joshua Garnett

As much as we need a CB, we need to shore up the interior OL.  We get the powerful OG Garnett from Stanford.  Garnett also will be given every opportunity to start somewhere on the OL, most likely LG, to compete with vet Jermon Bushrod.  That will leave a battle royale at RG, with Billy Turner, Jamil Douglas,  and Kraig Urbik .

RD 4  – Pick #107  OLB Akron –  Jatavis Brown

Excellent athletic player, with wheels (4.47 40).  Driven, team oriented player, lunch pail type of guy.  A little undersized at 5’11” 227, but a great guy to bring into the mix at OLB.

RD 5 – Pick #147   S Miami –  Deon Bush

Bush is a physical player who likes to hit, and when he does, forces fumbles.  Bush forced 5 fumbles in 2014.  He can also go up and get the ball with his 39 1/2″vertical.  Bush has only 4 INT’s in 4 years, along with 13 passes defensed.  Could be a good player down the line.

RD 6 – Pick #186  CB Virginia – Maurice Canady

Canady brings another CB with size to the team.  Not a physical player, but a player with talent that perhaps VJ can bring out.

RD 7 – Pick #227  DE Baylor  –  Shawn Oakman

Oakman is probably worth a flier in the 7th RD.  he could easily end up off the team before the season, but maybe, the light goes on, and he becomes a player.  I’d take tht chance this late in the game.

RD 7 – Pick #231   WR  Illinois – Geronimo Allison

OK, so I really just want to scream Genonimo!!!!!!  Do I take a chance and try to sign him after the draft?  No way!!!

I could definitely see Apple being the pick. I won’t be excited about it, but I will certainly understand it.

Okay this is from James Walker.
Morning take: The Dolphins have the No. 13 pick, which could be a tough spot depending on how the board plays out. They may have to make a trade up to increase their chances of landing an impact player.

So #13 is tough spot and no impact players will be there at #13, so I guess that means every team after us has no chance at an impact player either. It’s amazing how stupid you can sound when you’re trying to be dire towards the Dolphins without thinking things through. LOL

Apple has a lot of upside because he’s got all the tools including size at 6-1 200. He needs development but he fits our press scheme.

Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson reports the Saints like UCLA LB Myles Jack “quite a bit in spite of the knee concerns.”
This is great news for Jack, who has a realistic shot of being on the board when the Saints pick at No. 12.

I think he’ll still be on the board when Miami picks after his declaration late yesterday. Supposedly a few teams ahead of the Phins took him off their board altogether.

Tim, when I watched Apple play this past year, not much really jumped out at me as spectacular, infact at times I noticed mistakes & poor effort tackling.
But as you say, he fits a mold and can develop. But I just want a more sure thing over fitting a mold by an inch or by 10 lbs….lol

Instead of Apple @ #13, I’d be inclined to take WJ3 there or hope for Artie Burns in the 2nd, or if they feel that good about Burns, then take him @ #13….there’s no rules here, only ‘rights’ 🙂

All along it has been assumed the Cowboys’ top prospect is Jalen Ramsey, but the Cowboys have been known to pull an audible on draft day despite what the board tells them.

Those comments Jack made about himself made me pretty much not want to take a shot on him in the first. If you quote someone, they better have said it or you will get a nice big fucking lawsuit, so i cant see someone publishing an article with direct quotes and it not be what he said. I wouldnt risk my first round pick on a guy who says that his knee really is in that condition and that he might only have 3 years….but thats a decent career in the NFL…WTF. The one person supposed to be most positive about his situation is him, thats just pretty scary.

  56. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I’m leaning Shaq Lawson. If we have a fierce pass rush and can set the edge, then life will be easier for our LB’s & secondary.

    • D's avatar D says:

Id take Lawson as a backup to Hargreaves. Again, the depth of the draft at DE means if we go CB/DE instead of DE/CB we will be winding up with higher combined player rating and that should equate to having to better selections. Hell even DE in the 3rd will be a guy who at very least is a this year rotational guy, if not a split time guy.

  58. Jordan was eligible to apply for reinstatement 60 days prior to today. Nobody knows if he did. If he did, we should know quickly enough if he’s reinstated. So, he didn’t need to wait until today to apply. Interesting.

I mean don’t assume he will be out of the league in 3 years bc he said it

    assume his PR skills suck….lol

he’s factually accurate in saying most NFL careers don’t last long

I’m sure Chris Borland said all the right things before he retired early and it didn’t make a difference.

I don’t really think guys come into the draft planning when they retire or not
But who knows, they probably get all kinds of advice and I’m sure their are people around them talking about a short career vs the risk of concussions and injury

    Its a different world today
Players and young players are evaluating risks
He probably should not have spoken so freely about it

Jaylon Smith for instance insured himself when he decided to stay in Notre Dame for another year
and that’s a really smart move

Ifo also insured himself and he collects even if he doesn’t play

    These guys are humans
They are all thinking what Jack said
They might not say it to GMs and teams – but they know injury is a serious risk

    • D's avatar D says:

Those examples though Piggy are of two other guys who were 1st round predictions, one that wound up being taken in the 7th and another one that likely gets taken middle to late as well. Comparing them to him really says, dont draft me in the 1st, take me where the risk meets the reward. I hope we dont take him at this point i think we need some homerun picks this year and if he doesn’t pan out, its back to the head scratching and bitchfest about drafting broken players.

I would prefer a CB int he 1st as well
but the draft doesn’t work like that
its not 1 position or bust
that’s not a good approach to the draft

I am really hoping VH3 falls to us
and I’m a huge fan of Alexander but people will call him a reach at #13 – you won’t hear any negative oinks about taking him at 13 from me

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

I like WJ3 better than Alexander!
But WTF do I know? 😉

    • D's avatar D says:

Piggy Alexander and VH3 are probably on similar levels as far as how well they would be in the system that best fits them. I think VH3 is a good cover corner, but he is more press-zone, really physical and aggressive, great timing jumping routes from zone, just for what we are planning to do, he’s about perfect. Its not always about how big a dude is, but how skilled he plays that style, i dont think we can do better than him.

Alexander though in a more man cover system, off man system, is going to be pretty close to same fit. So for me, when not having Alexander ranked as high as a few of the other guys, its isnt so much about how good he is but more so about how well he fits us.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I dont think so, with their OL, brutal, they could put a cardboard cutout back there for QB and still get shit done behind their OL and with talented RB.

  69. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I like quite a few prospects in this draft so there is a good chance I’ll like our 1st rd pick. I may not love it or like how we got it if we trade up or down, but it would take a real bizarre pick to piss me off, like a QB or a K or a big time reach.

  70. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Armando still speaking from his perch like he’s a GM – giving the team direction. LOL

We may very well go CB but it doesn’t have to be 1st rd.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I know you may not like how Mando said it but I think he is right. We go into the season with this crop of CBs and it will be a long season. That’s why I think Hargreaves is our pick.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s the way he says stuff. You can get corners in other rounds too. I’m not sold that Hargreaves is the guy or that he’ll be there.

  71. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Markeyh, Calhoun worries me unless he’s in the 3rd rd or beyond. Heck even that NFL profile link you had wasn’t that glowing of him, at least not in our base 4-3…IMO.

  72. D's avatar D says:

So GDP you advocate drafting Burns at 13?

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Up above I was speaking in context of the ongoing convo of that particular thread about not necessarily needing to draft a CB in the 1st. I’m ok with one in the 2nd or 3rd.

BTW, I’ve seen several mocks have Burns going in the back half of the 1st round to playoff teams.

If Grier & Tbomb felt he was their target if they missed on WJ3 earlier, then so beit, I wouldn’t be overly upset with him @ #13 if they think he can come out and play for the starting role opposite Maxwell, which I think he can, even if he’s taken in the 2nd rd by us. but he could be gone by then too….

      • D's avatar D says:

Thats different than him being as good as those guys. I am not saying he isnt good enough to take, but im not taking him over VH3 or WJ3 and you seem to indicate he’s just as good, its just not true.

  73. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

I AM a technology retard, and I’m also old. Bad combo

  74. D's avatar D says:

I think if we go CB in the first it will be because the right guy was there. If the right guy is there (and in this case i think thats VH3, or WJ3) they make the selection to take a CB, otheriwse i think they will grab a stud player, potentially an OL or DE, with an outside chance it winds up being a LB.

  75. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m going to throw my remote at GDP if we take Artie Burns at #13

  77. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

VJ3 is off my board even if he were at 13 he is to small IMO….that is why I have Eli Apple as my 13th pick

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

      VH3 that is….

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I have heard a number of people saying we will take Apple.

      • D's avatar D says:

If its true they truly prize size, then yeah that makes more sense, VH3 though plays more aggressive. He plays bigger than he is, and im not sure a couple inches in height really should outweigh play skill. I dont think they are as hung up on size and some of us are.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

VH3 is like Brent Grimes size he will get abused unless we use him in the slot and his speed did not impress me to be in the slot.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The people who say we go with Apple have VH3 already off the board by our pick. It was on NFL Radio and I don’t remember who the panel was that was talking about it.

  78. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think you select a CB in the first if there is another player you think helps your defense more or helps your team more

I think that point of view is judgment on paper and not the way the game is played
    I don’t love our cbs
But this idea of take a CB in the 1st or else
Is amateurish on Mandos part IMO

And I want to take a CB at 13
I just think plugging in roster spots with names you think are good football players is is not the way the game works

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Problem is for us I see so many holes that we can go in a number of directions in round 1 and Mando’s comment be equally applicable to LB, OL or CB. or RB

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

CB is probably he biggest hole on paper

We can rationalize young guys at OG
We can get a RB mid rounds
You can argue we upgraded at LB already (I wouldn’t)

So I think CB is the biggest need
But I think you go to the draft with your biggest needs (plural) in mind and hope the bpa fits one of those needs

Not look at 1 position and say we must draft that position in the first
That’s a great way to get the worst player in round 1

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

I think they can do both take a CB who happens to rank close to where we are drafting. That is BPA + Position of need fulfilled. Win/Win

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The BPA may be a CB

        So it’s possible
I personally have VH3 and Alexander as top 10 talent

But I don’t have the next couple of guys (Jackson and apple) as top 20

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    SB

That playmakers post a little while ago was great! Thanks!

  80. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    I do t care about VH3 size
I don’t care what system we want to play or that we want lengthy cbs

Vh3 is the best CB in this draft
And Alexander is really a close 2nd

The difference between those 2 guys and the next tier IMO is pretty dramatic

I would probably go Jackson 3rd best but I don’t really like smaller school, lesser conference guys so early in the draft

    Eli Apple?
    Well he’s got the height
But I think his skills are significantly less than VH3 and Alexander

The idea that we might draft a guy for our current system bothers me
I would rather draft on pure talent

The way this team has been the last few years
We change systems like the wind changes directions

We want big CBA this year…I guess we do
But last offseason it didn’t matter

It would be silly to draft a taller CB just bc he’s taller and we want taller cbs in the first round

You can draft for a system later in the draft
You can do it in free agency

But in the 1st round – draft for talent

    Just my .02

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

After seeing our pro bowl CB small but talented get abused last year by Brandon Marshall and others we need to build a defense to stop our opponents top WR’s and like it our not VH3 at 5′-10″ at best is just not that guy IMO.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

There are smaller cbs in this league who have been very good consistently and there are bigger cbs who are always in the verge of being cut

        If the CB is talented
        He just is

And that’s the guy that is better for us

VH3 and Alexander are both under 6’0
But they can play CB in the NFL

Grimes was wrestling with Father Time
        Not just size

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Actually that’s not true at all. I listen to NFL Radio a lot, especially Bill Polian, who I respect a lot, and he said when you have parameters, such as height, weight, 40 times, 10 second splits, whatever it may be, you stick to them through and through. He said, and he quotes Bill Parcells on this, “Once you make an exception to your rules, you have a team full of exceptions”.

Of course, we have no idea what Gase or Greer’s parameters are, but you can bet they will stick to them if they have any

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

would that team be a team full of exceptional talent?

I don’t really know what GMs to behind the scenes
but I know that many GMs have missed and drafted busts based on self imposed parameters

if you walk away from the draft with the best talent….how is that not a success

  81. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

D, I said Burns could turn out to be as good as VH3 & WJ3. Burns played on a bad team with a huge coaching shakeup, yet still managed to show some nice skills. His size is better than VH3 (whom I still like) & he’s better more physical than Apple or WJ3(whom I like also)…IMO.
I’m looking for fit, not so much who’s got the best 40 or best mock grades.

  82. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Piggy

All that being said, I agree you wouldn’t take a less talented prospect that fits your position of need , you’d move on to a better prospect that does meet your criteria at a different position.

  83. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    Artie Burns;
Don’t let Burns’ track background fool you, he’s a legitimate NFL prospect with the upside to warrant early-round consideration and clear determination to succeed. He’s at his best in press man coverage, using his length, aggression and speed to harass wideouts on the perimeter and has the ball skills to punish quarterbacks who challenge him.
Oh & he ran a 4.46 & 4.42 & led the ACC with 6 INT’s for those keeping score at home.

  84. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Piggy:
I agree when we have so many holes go BPA because BPA is likely to be an area of need. I do think 13 is about the right window for VH3 and or Alexander. It may be high for Apple but I do like Apple, just don’t think he is BPA at 13.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I think Apple benefitted from a great Buckeye defense around him. The front 7 pressure makes a secondary’s job much more easier.
That’s why I’m on board with a stud DE early.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Can’t have too many stud DEs imo.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

We have a top 10 defensive front and we NEED a CB more than anything they went after 6′-1″ Maxwell for a reason in the trade. They have a height they are looking for at the CB spot and I can almost assure you any CB taken will be tall 6′ or better IMO.

  85. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

I personally would prefer Burns to Apple, but neither at pick 13.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If you miss or don’t want to take VH3 or Alexander
then maybe the 2nd round is where you get your CB

  86. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Screw it. If they’re stupid enough to trade back up into the top 10 after trading out of it(you know, that top 10 that wasn’t a big deal when we gave up #8) then blow your wad and trade all the way up to number 3 and take whomever you want after the top 2 QBs are gone! I mean, they say you never go full idiot(changed the word)…but I say if you’re gonna think like an idiot…go all the way. Go full on idiot!

  87. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

All hope in humanity is lost?
Piggy, you take this Trumping too serious. You rather one of the crooks or longtime establishment lying hacks to win? Then you’ll likely get your all humanity lost scenario in short order….the other candidates on both sides of the aisle are just a continuation of Bush & BO 2.0’s…just sayin.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

No matter the Democrats will win it again, I can’t believe after 7 years of Obama they had no serious contenders to stand up and go for the office and now Donald Trump will represent them and get creamed in the general….JMO

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not a Trump fan, but to think he’ll make America worse compared to the jerks and idiots who run things now, I’m not buying that.

  88. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

My guess is Grier and Tannenbaum are very similar to Parcells with prototypes for prospects.

  89. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Piggy

Polian went into great detail, citing specific situations. It really was extremely interesting to me, hearing it directly from the source you know is accurate, that if a WR ran a 4.6 or higher, they were off the board. Same for CB’s. Then there were the DE’s, they had to be really fast, they wanted smaller faster players in Indy, and they wouldn’t take a big slow guy no matter how talented. They stuck to their criteria very strictly. Once again, we don’t know what Gase and Grier’s parameters are, but my guess is we’ll have a better idea after this draft, and the next one.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

pay attention to the free agent signings let 6′-2 Olivier walk and sign 6′-5″ Williams and Branch…..they are preaching Bigger, stronger They signed CB 6′-1″ Byron Maxwell it is obvious to me. I could be wrong but so far that is the direction they are going.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

but Williams is just better than Olivier IMO

        Maybe we are going big
I’m not a huge fan f strict parameters

        remember this shit as kids
        fuck that!

  90. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Markeyh, what do you think of Sean Davis? I really been touting the cat over here for awhile. He’s gone from like a 5th rd prospect pre-combines to now a 2nd or 3rd.
He’s in the mold of Ramsey, can play both CB & FS. Hits like a truck, can track the ball well.

  91. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    BTW
CBS who I respect in terms of rankings
    has this raking at CB

    Hargreaves (10)
    Jackson (19)
    Apple (20)
    Alexander (28)
    and then its
    Fuller (53)
Sean Davis (60) – GDP will hate this, this guy shot up the boards
    Burns (66)
    Howard (75)
    Mills (91)
    Redmond (100)

Fuller is off a lot of radars but he would not be a horrible ick in the 2nd

Redmond is not a bad pick int he 3rd round

one of my favorite prospects is DJ White (136)
and Zack Sanchez (138) is right behind him

I like Alexander a lot more than most

  92. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

    Pig,
I’m actually higher on a lot of the small school guys at CB this year. Dieondre Hall, Harlan Miller, James Bradberry etc. I also like a player like Eric Murray from Minn.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Cannady, Calhoun….plenty of guys who are available later.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Are you calling Minn a small school?
      I don’t think of a Big 10 school as a small school

I’m fine with smaller schools late
but if you are talking about immediate production
there is usually a connection with big school, big conference and big competition and an immediate impact in the NFL

a few of the better rafting teams in the NFL have stayed away from small schools

There are always good players at smaller schools but they are a little riskier
the jump from college to the NFL is tough enough

from and small school in a lesser known conference its a bigger jump

I’m not saying small school prospects suck
but the odds are tougher to beat

      • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Murray was a seperate sentence than the small school guys. What I’m getting at is, IMHO, after VH, WJ, perhaps MA everyone is more of a developmental prospect and I would pick up higher ranked players at other positions vs reaching as there’s talent that you can get later at CB to develop.

  93. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Randy, we traded down to add two players. Trading back up has nothing to do with the other. It’s not like they said oh shit, we fucked up and now we’re trying to correct it. It’s about adding players you want, not how you did it or with what picks etc.

  94. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:
