      Good luck with that. LOL

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

what has happened with Studemeyer. He has fallen out of the rotation completely since game 3. No minutes at all. Is he in doghouse or what

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        No
He played well in the first 2 game of the Hornets series

Its just Whiteside is such an asset nd they are fining time for McRoberts
They need to try to use everyone a little

      • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

you don’t think its unusual he went from first off bench to not getting any minutes? He was starting ahead of Whiteside at some point at the end of the season also. Tomorrow should be telling with Toronto’s big lineup set.

  5. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, Lucas could compete with Thomas for the dimeback role.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I guess so
But he is the one guy who’s role seems dependent on beating some on in camp

The rest seem drafted for a specific purpose we don’t currently have on the roster

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Being that Lucas has played CB and S just like Thomas a few years ago and he went undrafted.

  6. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I see more of a Chris Cooley or Dallas Clark type of receiver when I watch Duarte. I don’t see the physicality of Clay when I watch him, but man, I’d take Dallas Clark or Chris Cooley in our offense in a second!

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It actually makes sense. Let them get up to speed mentally when they join the vets in minicamps and OTAs. All rookie camps have been is running around doing the things they’ve always done.

  7. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The new rookie minicamp approach gives Gase and his coaches a chance to really meet these guys and communicate instead of being on the field barking the same type of stuff from afar. I like it.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

What it does is gives them an overview of what to expect this year, and what is expected of them, so they can put everything into perspective, instead of keeping them in the fog. It’s what I ask for when in training, but no one ever does it or gets it.

Best pick: They moved back form No. 8 to 13 in a trade with the Eagles earlier this offseason and still landed one of the top players in the draft in tackle Laremy Tunsil. Yes, he has some questions off the field but he is a dominant player.

Questionable move: Taking Tunsil is still a move that will be questioned. He will be watched closely in his first few years off the field.

Third-day gem: Sixth-round receiver Jakeem Grant is tiny, but he can fly. He might be able to add a speed threat to the offense, but especially as a return man.

Analysis: They landed four good players with their first four picks. In addition to Tunsil, they got corner Xavien Howard, running back Kenyan Drake and receiver Leante Carroo. That’s a good haul for general manager Mike Tannenbaum and gang.

    Grade: B+

not that i actually read your comment, but i agree. why not, what they have done for years hasnt worked and i agree the physical aspect isnt that big a deal. i actually like the idea

  15. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    Redskins released CB Chris Culliver.
Culliver signed a “four-year, $32 million contract” last March, but tore his ACL and MCL in November. The remaining guarantees in his contract were voided by a Week 2 suspension for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy. Culliver was excellent in 2014, and is still only 27. He’ll get a second chance, but will have to be healthy first.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

BTW, he’s 6’0 199 & a former 3rd rd pick that had 2 great years in SF before getting hurt last season with Wash.

That’s crazy that both Chance Warmack and Jonathan Cooper, 2 of the highest rated OG’s in the 2013 draft haven’t panned out as of yet. I really wanted either one of those guys for us, but so far . . . BUST

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Cooper broke his leg his rookie year and never rebounded. Not sure what Warmack’s deal is.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I remember the long discussions I had with Jahn as to which one of these OG’s was better, and a better fit for us. We would have been screwed with either of them, although you never know whether Cooper would have got injured here or not.

As it turned out, both G’s were gone before our regular pick at #12, Cooper at #7 to ARZ, and Warmack at #10 to TEN

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep! I think we’re learning if a team likes a guy they take him and they don’t care what the typical rules are.

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Just looking at the rest of that draft for us, Mr. T is starting to look pretty good. lol

  22. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Interesting conversation here locally about the trade Minnesota did with us. The radio guys…some former players and some just media guys…loved the pick for the Vikes…felt they got a great deal. Why? Because they said the consensus is that next year is a much better draft than this year…and teams were more willing to give up picks in this draft to stockpile them for next year. I hadn’t heard that before.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah and I’m sure they know who they’ll get in the 3rd and 4th rounds. All you had to do was to watch this draft to know that’s impossible. LOL

  23. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Who are these teams drafting players they don’t like?

  24. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

No thoughts on Chris Culliver who’s been productive, but let’s go on and on about busts Cooper & Warmack…lol

    • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

lol, not at all. Must have been whispers from the backroom.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

He’s still got some rehab to go. But could come cheap unless he wants to wait till he’s fully healthy to get a bigger contract somewhere. He’s 27, so he’s still got some good football in him hopefully.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Not really until we resume pursuing FAs after May 12.

  25. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
I have no idea what your response meant.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think it’s premature to know that next year’s draft is deeper in the 3rd and 4th rounds at this time. It sounds more like homerism to me.

  26. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It was cool to see Sterling Shepard go to the Giants, they did a bio on him prior to the draft – he lost his dad when he was just 6 years old. His Dad Derrick won a championship at Oklahoma back in the 80s.

  27. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

  28. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
    Gotcha. Homerism, ya say? Lol

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Really, they know the makeup of the next draft after this one just happened. Yeah okay. LOL

The mocksters didn’t even get this one very accurately.

  29. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    in 2017 we’ll supposedly get a 3rd, 4th, 7th Comp Pick.
We’ll also likely deal Albert by then as well as another pricey vet getting beat by a developing player. That will net us another pick or two…IMO.
So I’m not gonna freak about something that’s a year away. Time to play some football in 2016!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Why so eager to get rid of Albert? What if we have one of the top OLs in 2016?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I wouldn’t be so fast on trading Albert next year with his contract. More like an outright release if we don’t keep him. He’s signed through 2018 and is owed $21M over 17 & 18.

I would also look at that as yeah let’s fuck with the OL again especially if we finally got it right in 2016.

  30. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I have no thoughts on Culliver because we don’t know if and when he’s healthy

  31. Randy's avatar Randy says:

No way Tunsil would have been there at #8 if what happened didn’t happen. The trade really had nothing to do with him being available to us. It doesn’t make the trade better or worse. We got lucky…that’s it. The value of that trade will come down t how Kiko and Maxwell perform in the years to come. Tunsil was s gift.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy you aren’t making sense today, did someone hack you’re account 😉

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It was still going to happen. That was the point. It worked out for Miami either way.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s the bottom line of the trade, we got both players for free, and they didn’t count against FA. Doesn’t matter how either plays, because we’re just talking about the compensation.

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Randy

I’m with ya on the picks from next year. It really bugs me.

  33. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,
I sure hope all these comp picks come rolling in like people keep saying. But, they’re also end of the round picks, and if we have to give up all of our original picks because we can’t trade comp picks….we’ll be stuck with a bunch of picks at the end of those rounds. I guess folks think we’re gonna have end of the round picks anyway, so it doesn’t matter as much.

  34. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
Mocksters are morons. They have nothing to do with what teams think. Teams study drafts several years in advance. So, yeah, I’d guess they do have a feel for whether or not next year’s draft is “better” than this year.

  35. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    gdp
You don’t care about draft picks next year, but you’re already figuring out a way to deal Albert for picks next offseason? Lol

  36. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Lunch is over.

  37. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
How can people grade the draft that just took place before any of these guys have played a down in the NFL? Since when does reality or common sense enter into evaluating draft classes? Lol
    ***
Besides, it wasn’t me who said this shit to begin with. I was just passing on what I heard. It’s always interesting to hear what the fans and media say up here about stuff compared to how it’s portrayed in Miami. I have no idea if they are right. I didn’t claim they were.
    ….
    I’m out.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

They have to make a decision at some point. They’re also scouting them on their most recent season, not two years ago. I was just commenting on what you reported they said, I never said it was your idea. But it wreaked of ball lapping. LOL

Mike, we still have 7 or 8 picks left next year. (including the assumed comp picks. 3)

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s saying if we don’t get them. Then we only have a 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7. We’re definitely getting oomp picks next year, hopefully we’re right on the what we’re expecting 3, 4 and 7.

  44. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Dolphins waived DE Damontre Moore, RB Jahwan Edwards, and WR Christion Jones.
Moore has never lacked talent — he was effective in situational duty early in his career with the Giants — but he’s shaping up as a disappointing career underachiever. Moore was cut for “behavioral issues” by New York, and didn’t last the offseason in Miami after being claimed off waivers last December.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Moore must really not impress people as a person.

Hopefully our FO got most all of their selections right in some capacity.

  48. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

But, they’re also end of the round picks, and if we have to give up all of our original picks because we can’t trade comp picks…

Randy, starting next year the NFL will allow teams to trade comp picks. So we MAY have traded our comp picks and not our #32 pick in each round. Hell the comp picks will be higher anyway……after we win the superbowl!

  49. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

The Jaguars declined LT Luke Joeckel’s fifth-year option.
This was expected after Joeckel struggled mightily his first three seasons, and lost his starting job to free agent pickup Kelvin Beachum. Joeckel has not shown the ability to handle himself in an NFL running game, and has been pulverized in pass protection. He was the No. 2 pick in the 2013 draft. The No. 1 pick in that draft — Chiefs LT Eric Fisher — has been only slightly better.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

And Dion FF has been a disaster (as trump would put it). I think lane johnson which I was hoping was our pick when we made the trade has been solid.

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

  52. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tim, that’s why I posted that. There’s such a premium on LT. So yes, hoping Tunsil is the real deal that he showed @ Ole Miss.

  53. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

See, even the great Ted Thompson misses. Even Ed Lacy has been up & down.

The Packers declined DE Datone Jones’ fifth-year option for 2017.
Packers GM Ted Thompson has yet to exercise any of his first-round picks’ fifth-year options, also declining Nick Perry and Derek Sherrod’s. All three have been easy decisions (and not great draft picks). Jones posted 20 tackles and three sacks last year, and has yet to become more than a rotational player.

I’d be thrilled with the trade if I were a Vikings fan. They got close to 200% value based on analytical models I’ve seen. I wasn’t a fan of the 2nd and 3rd round trades at all. There was a very good chance we still get Howard without moving up in the second and we gave up a load of chips to get a 4th WR who better be really good to validate the price.

Overall it seems like a good draft. Lots of picks that will fill needs if they are good enough to play. Just not a fan of the style Tbomb employs. Little depth means the players picked and signed in FA better work out or we are hurting and not holding a lot of future draft equity to make up for it.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

When you trade for a pick this year using next year’s picks as collateral, you always give up a one pick higher. Actually the Vikings should have gotten a 2nd. So they settled for a 3rd and a 4th. I view a 2nd as better than a 3rd and 4th. A 3rd and 4th rarely adds up to a 2nd rd value. So I could argue the Vikings didn’t get max value.

There were also rumors the Bears were high on Howard.

    ———————————-
Solid but not exceptional. You would expect a little more for a guy that got taken 4th overall, but you are right, comparing him and how he turned out vs how Jordan has turned out it looks like a genius selection. God if we had taken Ansah, or just stayed put and selected any number of people that draft wouldnt look so much like a cock up. I still say the actual trade itself was a steal, moving up that many spots in the 1st and only giving up a second….still end result is what it is….pure poop.

Thanks D! I’m going to see if anyone has anything scheduled, if not, we’ll run it tomorrow. I’m not going to read it, but I’ll put some images along with the picks as you ask. At least I’ll try not to read it, I like reading articles when they’re pooblished.

    D,
I thought johnson got his 5th year option picked up. you have to be pretty good for that to happen. I just hated that trade the minute it happened. We could have gotten 2 starters with those 2 picks. Fuckin Ireland.

We should have sat there and took Eifert and still had our 2nd, he fucked that draft so bad..

Almost makes you think people liked the draft and/or Tannebaum and Gase.

No rings this year my friends, but certainly is interesting.

  74. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

so looks like D wrote an article. i hope everyone gets a good nights sleep, wakes up and makes 17 pots of coffee. i will check in around 3 or 4pm. by then the first post should be in the comments section.

Gase is an intense little dude. Got some wild crazy eyes lol.

Thats how focused my son gets with flipping Legos and minecraft. He builds the craziest shit, with full on working parts and everything. Has been doing it since he was like 3-4, before that it was puzzles, puts them together by pure pattern matching no strategy like starting with edge pieces, its almost spooky.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Sounds like he should be an engineer.

      • D's avatar D says:

Yeah i think he would be a great one, its why i put up with nightly searing pain from stepping on those fuckers without taking and throwing them all away. Trying to encourage those skills but damn its hard when that jolt of nerve pain runs up to your neck from your foot.

sounds pretty cool. it is great when they find something that can grasp their attention like that and they give 100%. it didnt hit my son till like when he was 10 years old and was pitching in an all star tournament. it just clicked that game and after that the only thing that he gave 100% focus too was every time he was on the mound. even the games he played at 1st base he was always good but it was never the same focus as when he was pitching.

and yeah i get it, all guys at some point learn to give a 100% focus to the mound.

    • D's avatar D says:

LOL, focus on one mound, wind up a Major League pitcher, focus on the other maybe a teenage dad working as the manager of a grocery store, maybe porn star…. who knows…

Yeah he is good, and compared to the rest of these guys from past few years, he is a stud. I think though he doesn’t have anything on guys who usually go top 5, like Long, Or Trent Williams, or Tyron Smith who wasnt top 5 but was top 10, Joe Thomas, etc.

Was looking at a few teams draft picks and to go along with the Jags and Bills, which i think have already been mentioned, i thought the Ravens had a pretty good one too.

  81. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

What about Albert to the Jags for Telvin and their 3rd next year? They didn’t do anything for their O-line.

    • D's avatar D says:

Thas an interesting proposal, good trade mate, value probably not too off, though Telvin holds more value, being young and cheap, i think for us than Albert does them. Seems possible. Question then really becomes are we sold on Bushrod playing OG to give up our current LT and a certain starter to get Telvin and solidify the LB corp.

      • D's avatar D says:

Have a feeling if we were to do that it would come after TC starts and we have a chance to eval Bushrod better.

  82. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Just an idea even though I would like to see us with the beefed up o-line
I do like Telvin though but I doubt they’d part with him

  83. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Son

I’m pretty sure the Steelers game is going to be the one for me, regardless of what the other people decide. My friend is a huge Steelers fan, so we’ll make a weekend trip out of it. Sounds like you’ll be there, and I’m sure Stanger and OD will be as well, so we can have a mini fest at worst.

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Cool, yeah that one is shaping up for friends of ours too. What a shame I may have to go to more than one game, oh the agony – not!

  84. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Actually – The Jags just refused their option on Joeckel. Albert would be a get for them, and we can use some ammo next season.

  85. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, Gase isn’t really a little dude. He looks pretty tall, like 6-1 or so.

  86. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

So now we want to go back one step on the OL again by trading Albert? I don’t get you subtract by addition folks. The idea it to add more talent and get better, not keep bringing one in and let one go. I’d rather have Albert at LT and Tunsil at LG or vice versa than Tunsil at LT and back to our same guard instability.

By the way, Albert is signed through 2018 and is owed $32M the next 3 seasons so good luck getting good value on that trade.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I agree 100%. What is left of his guaranteed money?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well he’s guaranteed $26M and has only had cap hits of $15M his first two seasons. This year his dead cap if we released him is $11M followed by $3.4 in 17 and $1.7M in 18.

So it would be more likely you make a move to release him next year unless he’s simply playing too well and you don’t want to upset the chemistry on the OL.

Still, Albert is a good player and he’s another year removed from his knee injury. He’s not rehabbing this year, he’s ready to go from the get go. Yeah let’s move on from that because we’re so good on the OL. I really don’t get that thinking.

  87. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Son I beat you to LC3 by about 3 days

  88. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Damonte Moore is gone. I remember some people saying he was going to be a factor next year – I just didn’t see it. Watched enough of the Giants last year to see he was worthless

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Yep, lackluster effort and desire to play the game.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Not sure anyone said he would be a factor it was more hoping he’d get his shit together because he’s still really young and he does have talent. Obviously he didn’t show the team enough.

  89. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Mike,

I may wind up going to the Steelers game as well, I’ll have to see. As you know, my best friend is a huge Steelers fan as well. I need to decide soon- flights for October are very inexpensive right now.

  90. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Steelers probably a no go for me. The Bills are the most likely for me

  91. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Ken they might settle quicker if they know their attorney will be away!

  92. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Declining the option just means a guy won’t make that guaranteed money, it doesnt mean they’re giving up on him.

  93. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We traded a 6th this year and a 3rd and 4th next year for Carroo… but received a 2016 3rd to pick him.

I’m not going to refer to him as LC3, he’s Carroooooo… because it’s so much cooler. 🙂

  94. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

LC2, if that’s how you add it up Ken, but I say LC3, because we gave next year’s 3 and 4 and this year’s 6, our 3 was used for Drake earlier in the round.

I was grading Thalia’s paper and pronounced her name Tal-ya (like it should be)

    a – a – ron

3,4,6 and the pick used to get him sounds like 4 to me, are you in my wife’s class?

  97. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I wonder if Rams and Eagles fans will refer to their QBs as JG3 and CW3? LOL

Albeit much higher compensation when it’s all said and down.
