ARE YOU READY FOR SOME POKEY?

Are you ready for some Pokey?

Areyou ready for some Pokey

I know what you are thinking.  No Colonpokey, stay away.  I’m a rational fan.  I will not be bending over for you.  Go somewhere else to someone with unrealistic expectations.

You might be right.  You are coming off a 6-10 season.  You fired your very disappointing coach, you may be just one year removed from defending that coach.  So his failure was particularly devastating to you.

You are a great fan of the Dolphins.  But you will not fall for it this year.  Not this year!  I will wait and see what happens.

PokeyHeartLet’s see it on the field right Dolphans?

That is very logical thinking.  The sort of thinking that helps you avoid a little pokey this season.  It makes perfect sense that you are thinking that way now.  Its practically biological.  Let me show you.  This is a photo of a normal human heart.  Looks normal to me.

But a Dolphan…OdonellHeartwell their heart looks a little different.  Look at this!  Look at what you have done with your heart!  Heart break after heart break every season.  You have followed this team so intensely and with such passion your heart looks like Rosie O’Donnell.

Once your heart goes O’Donnell its so ugly its broken and can’t be broken again.

So you are safe from pokey right.  WRONG!  Do not underestimate the spokeyshowereduction of pokey.

I have something to tell you about.  Dion Jordan is eligible for reinstatement.

I will say it again.  We might get Dion Jordan back!

Want to hear more don’t you?

Oh…heehee…come in…the water is warm.  Can you pick up the soap I dropped.  Heehee…don’t worry, I will be gentle, at first…

What?  Why so standoffish?  Don’t be so shy?

Oh I know…I know.  You aren’t falling for that.  You expect nothing from Dion Jordan.  This idea that Dion Jordan is a part of this team now…finally after three disappointing years…

After a ear long suspensionJordanFurnace following a year when he was suspended for 6 games, following a year when he could not get not he field.

Well that is unbelievable.  You may have even taken steps to rid yourself of all Dion Jordan hope.  Maybe something of a ceremony involving fire.

But it’s not so simple to forget that potential is it.

He was the #3 pick in the draft!  How can the #3 pick be such a dud.  Remember when he was drafted?  Remember What you thought?

DionJordanOregonThis guy is going to line up on the other side of Wake.  He is going to be a beast.

He’s 6’6 with no body fat.  Look at the plays he makes in those highlight clips at Oregon.

Dion Jordan will be a cornerstone of our defense.

Okay, so maybe he was not a cornerstone.  But Philbin really was a bit queazy when asked to play him as a rookie.  He just would not let him on the field.  Freakin Philbin…he did it with Miller…So that must apply to Jordan too.  That is one reason why Jordan was held back since being drafted.

And then he made a mistake or two in his second year, so he missed 6 games.  But he still did’t get any playing time.  And then he became a fuckface and missed the entire 2015 year.  What a bust!

But therKiko Alonsoe are murmurs of a comeback season now.

He’s been practicing with his good friend and former teammate Kiki Alonso.  The two have been dedicated to helping this tam this offseason.

Kiko says Jordan wants to play linebacker.  So maybe that was the problem with Jordan…he should have been a linebacker all this time.

No wonder he wasn’t contributing!  That’s all some one needs to turn things around.  A little support from a friend and a new start.  Dion Jordan may just be something in 2016…

PokeybedOh…hello there…heehee…looks like you may be warming up to some pokey.

Maybe he sticks at DE and the Dolphins work him in with Wake and Williams to form a formidable edge rush.

Maybe his agent is right, Jordan will be comeback player of the year.

Yeah…I think you are ready for some pokey.  Keep holding out a little hope for Dion Jordan Dolphans.  Pokey is here to comfort you.

You aren’t so jaded that you have no hope.  And where there is broken hope, there is pokey.

Come take a ride we me…we will have a talk…heehee…about it…

LOL @ Piggy and the crazy world of Colonpokey

Dion Jordan coming back would be a bonus if he can help wherever they play him. But the team addressed the offseason as if he wasn’t going to be a part of the team so we’ll see.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Because they can’t talk about him, but you know they know exactly what’s going on.

I was just saying we added quite a few DEs in the offseason and whether or not Jordan plays DE or OLB or serves as a hybrid in different schemes, the team isn’t dependent on him. He would be a bonus.

Guess i missed all the hot debates, being curious i went back to read it and kind wish i hadn’t.

Jets, i like ya man but you do latch on to things sometimes and ride the fuck out of them. In case of FFR he was saying he hated the city of Boston and everything in it, he doesn’t really want for them to have tragedy, because despite the off color nature of his comments sometimes, he is a good guy and has good intentions. He certainly wouldnt be the cause of any sort of thing like that so the need to “report” him is ridiculous. Threats are a horrible way to do business man. Just express your discontent for his comments, hell call him out for being a shit-bag if you feel so passionate about it, but just leave it at that please.

FFR i do think the Boston comments were a bit off color even for you. There are people here that may have had family close to or involved with that event and its one of those things that i think is such a tragedy, you really shouldn’t go at it so bluntly or at least with some sort of recognition of the gravity of what happened. Million ways to run down that city, if you must, without going there.

Both you guys are good contributors here, both of you give a viewpoint that is different from a lot of the rest here so its good reading your opinions and comments, i hope for you guys to put this aside and both stay and remain posting here. Would feel bad to lose either of ya.

Oh and you were wrong about one thing Jets, Omar is a dick, no one should feel ill towards his family, they didnt pick to be related to him, but that guys is pure trash as both a human being and a reporter/blogger.

  13. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He was a very productive back in college, really carried the ball a lot, so he can be the main guy, no question. He also has really good feet, he was a talented soccer player, and he moves his feet well.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think the idea with a guy like him is you keep him productive by giving him ample opportunity to produce, but you also limit his snaps to keep him fesh and avoid fatigue that could translate into injury. Id rather see him as the 10-15 carry back and Drake as the 20-25 carry guy. Hopefully that will translate into about 35-40 carries a game for or RB’s and will balance out our offense a good bit.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think it’s going to be like that. I see Ajayi being a 14-16 rush and maybe 2-3 receps PG guy and Drake maybe 6-8 rush and 2-3 receps PG guy who may also be our kick returner. Of course there will be games where each guy has more or less depending on the game, but I’m just averaging it out at the tailback position. Then the #3 back may get 2-3, RT 1-3 and maybe our WRs lead by Landry (18-113 6.3 1 TD last year) 1-2. That gets you in that 27+ rush per game range that Gase’s offenses have produced the last 3 years.

This is just my view on how it may pan out, I could be totally wrong.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He has excellent balance and runs with conviction.

  14. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

Wow man, that’s a lot of carries. I don’t think Drake will be that for us, but hey, anything is possible. I kinda of saw him as a change of pace, and a 3rd down back, and use him as a receiver out of the backfield. That would be some change for us, 40-45 carries a game

    • D's avatar D says:

I think we will see it. I have looked at Gase’s offenses in the past and he has some patterns there. He generally has 2 backs in rotation and they serve roles. His primary back generally is verstaile, is a good receiver out of the backfield. He also has a more powerful grinding back, better straight ahead runner.

I dont think the roles you see for Drake are accurate because you are judging him off how he was used at Alabama where they have a more traditional system with the sped back/receiving back being used in a more traditional 3rd down situation. I dont think thats how Gase’s system rolls from what im seeing and the number of carries is pretty consistent for him, 35-40 carries a game split between the two backs. Go back and look at his year in Chicago and i think you will see what im saying. Drake is more Forte to me and Ajayi is more Langford in that system, and i expect they wind up use similarly, because Drake offers more versatility.

We will see, and it may start out flipped around depending on how ready Drake is to move to that role.

      • D's avatar D says:

This also isnt a condemnation for Ajayi as a runner. I think with his field of vision and power, and one cut kind of running style he will be very productive with his carries. We might wind up with one of the better 1-2 punches in the NFL when/if Drake reaches his potential in our system. Ajayi also benefits from an extended career.

  15. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, if we reach the rushing numbers you’re suggesting that means Ajayi/Drake are a dynamic duo and the best way to win games. I wouldn’t be against that at all. But I need to see it to believe it. 🙂

Kinda felt Hartline was probably not going to make it to camp. Better for him if he can maybe get a chance to make another team, may need to consider retiring though, just too much young talent coming out of colleges today at that position. I have been saying this the past few years now. WR is becoming the new RB, cheaper to take a shot on a young guy than keep paying these aging verts lots of money. Pretty much now, you are either the alpha on your team or as soon as you arent, you are going to get dropped.

my comment to this guy ‘but you will never admit to who you are’ was made when he called me a asshole after i referred to his comments as troll comments. note i never called him anything just called his comments troll comments. if anyone looked back i even reached out to him a few days ago asking about the gator girls threepeating. i never held any animosity towards him.

anyways, my post i said i admit to being an asshole but he would never admit to who he is meaning he is an attention getting poster and will make comments just to get attention . how he turned that into some how me stalking him i have no idea other then more of him seeking attention and going over the top like he is now.

Severely doubt he gets either. Doubt he wins if he does get one too (although that would show he has a chance).

Pretty sure he will get his suspension stayed until his legal avenue of appeals are over though.
    —————————
It will only be stayed if they grant reconsideration en banc or if SCOTUS grants cert. The mere filing is not basis for a stay so very unlikely the suspension is stayed.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

This ain’t a monetary judgment though that you can file an appeal bound on. There is no giving back the suspended games. For sure it will be stayed if either appeal granted, but have to believe that a request for stay will be granted until all denied.

Not an expert on the subject, but never heard of a guy on death row getting executed while his appeal is pending.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Procedurally doesn’t work that way. Only if reconsideration is granted or if cert is granted would a stay come into play. The odds of either one happening is rare. There is no automatic stay in this matter. This is not a death penalty case. If you are convicted of a crime you go to jail pending appeal.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Agree the odds on him getting either hearing are slim. Thought the Supreme Court can stay the ruling/suspension while it considers whether to take up or not, but I could be wrong. And no not a death penalty case, but they do the same when it is about eminent domain too….which is also a civil can’t undo thing.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Death row cases have automatic appeals and stays. A regular prisoner does not get his year back if his conviction is overturned.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

You got me to check least a bit….NFL.com at least is saying that just the justice in charge of the circuit (GInsberg) can issue a stay of ruling while the petition for cert process plays out. Not like I go to them for legal advice, but they must have gotten that somewhere.

  66. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Thomas Duarte is Arron Hernandez on the field. I’d like to see him run the ball from 2 TE sets, and get snaps in 2 TE sets. I’d also like to see Sims in 2 TE sets with Duarte. I’d also like to see him play a little FB. Gase is going to use the skillsets of his players, so if someone does something well, I expect to see it.

  67. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I think if requests cert the denial will come so fast it would Brady’s head spin

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

But then he might just be trying to leverage two games instead of four two with the NFL. His best weapon is not letting it die, even if the legal chances are very slim.

  68. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Just got done watching all of our new offensive rookies highlights, what a mistake that was. Gase is probably working 18 hour days, and it must feel like he’s working 2. His mind must be going crazy thinking of ways to use these guys. Tannenbaum must’ve been thinking we ran 8 goal to go plays against the jets in one series and couldn’t score, we need more mismatches.

  69. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Stanger a stay can be issued but it is not automatic. Traditionally it is only if cert is granted or reconsideration is granted. He can petition for a stay but unlikely to be given absent a compelling reason such as a death penalty case or eminent domain which involves the taking of property

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Assuming what NFL.com said was right….we are talking Ginsberg though. Would be different if it was Thomas. I’m betting it never makes it that far though. Steve,
Yes…Mismatch, game planning, system, play calling is so central to coaching….is why I was shouting about it from the rooftops since October of the 2015 season…well even a lil back in the 2014 season too.

Point is, people dismiss coaching way too easily, and say it’s predominately personnel.
Coaches at this level can all coach technique for the most part, as they’ve all had to work their way up as a position coach first….being a true mastermind of the game and seeing the who;e filed is hard to find in just any HC.

Hope we have this in Gase….and yes, personnel is important too….infact we talk a lot about it’s a team game, can’t just blame the QB….well, the working correctly as a “team” also incompasses the coaching staff, the HC, game planners, & play callers.

I like the draft, free agents, & coaches so far. Hopefully it will meld together as a solid functioning team!

We seen so much stupid shit from Wanny to Cameron to Ireland to Philbin and everyone else in between that after going through that it’s pretty clear we’ve got someone with a plan that actually knows what he’s doing. I mean even Tannenbaum seems smarter with Gase on board. Tannenbaum can bring in the talent via FA, so he’s got that going for him, but not much else.

  82. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I know a lot of you guys are trying to be wait and see guys after what happened last yr with all the hype, and that’s understandable, but I don’t feel the same way, the changes just scream we’re going in the right direction. There’s just to many positive signs for me to think we’re not at least a 10-6 WC team.

Take a look at some of what we’ve done differently this yr, compared to yrs past. We needed a passrusher in 2013, so we move up to draft Jordan at #3, an out of position LB, this yr in the same situation we do the opposite we get Mario an out of position OLB and move him back to his natural 4-3 DE.

We’ve had a bad line ever since RT was drafted, so what do we do we get guys like Smelly Smith, this yr we get the best OL in the draft. Sure RT has run right into defenders, but the line has been really bad and guys aren’t getting open, not sure what he’s supposed to do. He misses open guys at times, and doesn’t always throw it on target, but what would anyone else do after being sacked that many times. David Carr anyone?

Philbin was a what’s left out there after 6 turndowns, Gase was the first choice. The FO is working closely with Gase to draft and acquire the right types of players that fit the system, in positions we need. Wanny drafted an LB with our first pick to play STs. Ireland just picked up guys that didn’t fit for a bargain.

We couldn’t score last yr, so what did they do drafted 4 playmakers. Philbin did the same last yr, but he didn’t know what to do with them, except for Landry, but I’m pretty sure Landry did it on his own.

We were the worst team in the NFL against #1 WRs last yr, what did they do, got rid of the high priced Grimes and McCain and Taylor for a system fit Maxwell, and Howard. Part of the issue was bad safety play not named Jones, I’m not sure Quddus is a better cover guy, but he’s not worse and he’s 100 times better in run support.

Some will say we didn’t do much to fix the LBs, maybe our biggest D weakness, but I don’t agree, with Alonso back in a position he played well, and Quddus and Jones coming up in run support, we’ve really improved the run D. Mario is also a lot better run defender than OV, the other 2 DEs are too shabby at it either.

If we suck this yr I’ll admit I don’t know shit about football.

  83. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Rock, any coach Landry would’ve had that gave him an opportunity would’ve seen the same results, Philbin had nothing to do with his success.
