and Rhino!
Happy 4th of July! Mike, since this IS a Dolphins site, can you switch your image for Wyomings? I think it’s more appropriate for a Dolphins site.
Happy 4th of July folks! Hope everyone has a nice day.
Happy fireworks to all……time to start getting ready for the next major holiday though (an Labor Day don’t count).

Lol! Nice!
NICE, INDEED, Young Stanger! Mrs. OD turns 39 again in two days. So your’s truly will be waving the flag again!
ME and Mrs. OD are spending a quiet but enjoyable 4th of July on a DAY OFF FOR ME!!–Usually I work on the 4th (local convention usually runs through the 4th but NOT this year.)
—————-
Looking forward to the Marlins-Mets game starting at 4 PM. Mets definitely playing better than Miami right now. But, we’ll see. Ichiro now just 11 hits short of 3,000.
Maybe it’s me, but I can’t understand for the life of me why Granderson is back batting leadoff. I hate the lineup with him batting 1st, and with Harvey on the mound, who we can’t seem to score runs for, why bat him 1st? Puzzling to me. I love the lineup with just about anyone else they’ve batted leadoff better.
OK Mets Fans; Harvey makes a wild throw to home on what was a tailor-made double play AND THEN HE DOESN’T COVER HOME as the catcher retrieves Harvey’s wild throw!! –I’ll bet Terry Collins was a bit hot under the collar when he yanked Harvey from the game!! 6-0 Fish, in a game the Mets were favored to win!!
Happy Independence Day everyone!
IT HAS BEEN a happy Independence Day, Herdfan, even though the Marlins blew a 6-0 lead to the Mets! Gotta have a bit of perspective. And I hope things are improving in your state after those unbelievable floods.
Great weekend, and now back to reality. Nice comeback by the Mets finished off a really nice July 4th weekend
They are truly the bizarro team.
I’d have to say most teams are bizarre. They’re up and down, like most clubs have been. You might think they’ve turned a corner after the 5 game win streak, and I hope that’s the case, but I’m not sure.
Yeah this team is totally unpredictable though. We’ve now beaten the Cubs 8 straight going back to the playoffs right?
Tim
I really like the lineup so much better with Granderson out of the 1 hole. They need a guy who can put pressure on the defense, pitcher. I’ve felt that way for a long time
I agree he has too much power and RBI potential than he does as a table setter.
Tim
It’s one of those enigmas, like why the Braves have our number this year. We definitely have the Cubs number, but I’m interested to see how we do against them in Wrigley.
Good morning everyone; hope you had a nice day yesterday.
I’m feeling the effects of churrasco & ballpark franks this morning (not pleasant for those passing by my desk) lol.
This is one of those times when I’m glad this is a blog and not real life!
lol
Does Piggy know about the churassco?
He does now . . .
5 years ago the GSW’s were a 23 win team. New ownership, overhaul FO…
Before KD the only other ‘star’ free agents signed by Dubs were Baron Davis and Andre Igoudala.
When KD agreed to sign, it was honestly surreal. I keep reading and watching and still can’t believe this has happened. Of all my favorite teams (Fins, A’s, Dubs) I thought the Warriors would be the LAST to figure it out, and Fins would be the first.
No guarantee of championships, as this year proved, but it puts in position of opportunity. It feels truly amazing and I am having so much fun with my family in California (81 first cousins between Ventura and San Luis Obispo) all of whom, except me and one cousin, had been die hard Laker fans. Dubs owner Lacob says he would buy the A’s if they were for sale. 🙂 I wonder if he secretly likes the Dolphins as well?
I thought this was a Mets blog, what’s with the GSW???
What do you think is our best lineup right now?
I would like : RHP on the mound
3B – Reyes
SS – Cabrera
CF – Cespedes
RF – Granderson
2B – Walker
1B – Loney
C – d’Arnaud
LF – Nimmo
With a LHP, switch Granderson and Walker
What do you think Conforto’s status is, wrist or hit a wall or both?
Rhino,
Good times for you in this current GS era.
They had a few fun teams that never amounted to anything great (RUN TMC …the Don Nelson 1 and 2 era)…
I’m hoping the Fins find their way to this kind of new success.
I don’t even remember what winning feels like. It’s crazy to think that at one time, it was automatic that Miami would make the playoffs and thus the argument was always “are we good enough to make it to the SB?”. Now we argue about being better than 8-8. I think this year they finally will get to double digit wins again :/.
I think Conforto will be fine. When his struggles lasted longer than he expected, he really started pressing which just exacerbated his issues. When he starts tearing up the minor leagues, they’ll bring him back up, but no rush really, especially if Nimmo is still doing well, and Reyes too.
Cespedes
HEY MIKE E: –Did Stanton’s last home run land in YOUR back yard in Joisey?? –Holy SHIT, that was a MONSTER HOME RUN!! –THIS is the Stanton the Fish thought they’d signed to a long term deal, not the slumping Stanton they’ve had for most of this season. If Giancarlo can get his game cranked up, both on offense and on defense, the Marlins WILL HAVE A SHOT FOR A WILD CARD! –As Tim said a few days ago, “there IS talent on this team.”
————
ME AND THE MRS. will be gone to Orlando for a convention sponsored by Florida’s statewide numismatic organization. I happen to be president of this organization, so I’ve got to be at the top of my game for a few days. (And, I’m running unopposed for another 2-year term.)–Talk to all you fine people Sunday or Monday.
OD
It broke the window in my kitchen and knocked the bananas off the counter. At least I got a souvenir.
OD,
Should be interesting race come next two months where the schedule gets division heavy.
I don’t think the Mets and the Marlins will have it easy, especially since they got issues vs the Braves who are suppose to be the worst competitor in all of the NL and one of the 3 worst in all of the MLB.
I see the Cardinals and Dodgers beating out the NL East teams.
I just don’t see how the Marlins rotation will hold up.
As for NY, i just don’t see them having enough offense.
I guess I shouldn’t count out Pittsburgh either but their bats need to wake up soon; especially McCutchen who is going through a career bottom.
Just in case you want to see it again 🙂
http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/giancarlo-stanton-launches-impressives-hrs-to-halt-mets-win-streak-070516
LOL
The best part of the towering HR is hearing the fans go “OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo” the minute it left the bat.
The first Stanton HR was a bad pitch by Matz. You don’t throw a change up over the plate on 1-2 to a guy like him. The Mets pitchers have a habit of doing that rather than throw a waste pitch like a slider down and away or up and in. They seem to all believe in their stuff so much that they don’t always pitch smart.
But good win for the Marlins to keep things close.
What’s up oinkers
Anxious on Wade’s decision 😦
Who is Wade?
I don’t know who that is
sounds like a jerk
He’s the guy that brings all of the leftovers from the buffets to the pig farms. One of the trucks crashed recently, so he wasn’t sure he was going to continue… 😛

I’m just hoping the LB group can perform a step up above last year.
Just saw this on twitter LOL
Marlins beat up the Mets good last night, but Mets win the series. Going to be a good race though the entire season I believe.
I have to rant. Totally non Dolphins, non-football, non sports related. Unless the fact that hopefully all the people who play use toilet paper. WTF is going on with the TP situation in this country? Have we become so lazy that we need to have quadruple size rolls so we don’t have to change them so often? Forget the fact that my children NEVER put a new roll on the holder, no matter the size! But my issue with these gargantuan sized rolls is they don’t fit on the holder without rubbing the wall. PLUS, I have a holder that matches the rest of my bath fixtures to hold spare rolls. I’m considerate that way. Seems the QUAD rolls are too large to fit inside the spare roll canister. I’m fine with all the lazy asses out there having their quad rolls, put one of those monster rolls up in your home like they have in public restrooms if that’s your thing. My problem is of all the choices and brands at the store, they were ALL the 4X size. I must have stood there for 5 minutes looking for other sizes, but nooooooo, none to be found. I’m Pissed!!!!!….pun intended! 😉
Its never too late to switch to a “green” alternative
TP for bunghole
LOL @ Herd – I believe they still sell TP that isn’t a 4X roll. I know even the double rolls are pretty fat, and I LOL’ed at the kids NEVER putting the roll on the holder. My kids too. WTF, how lazy can you be?
ancillary issue:
Does one mount the tissue so that the new edge is over top or under bottom?
Any engineers out there wish to speak to torque, any decor mavens want to chime in on aesthetics?
Not quite engineer pedigree, but I prefer to have the new sheet over the top.
I’m not sure about engineers, but my wife prefers the TP over the top, so that’s the way it goes in my house.
Whats this TP you are all talking about ?
LMAO
lol Herd.
Naplesfan,
Definitely go over the top for practical reasons.
You need space between the wall and the paper.
Going underneath gives you a high probability of contact with the wall (very little distance between the paper and wall) when you go to tear the paper or even attempt to grab it for that matter.
And to the tear part, it’s easier for me anyway to tear when its over the top (downward across motion pressing in somewhat) than from underneath where pulling is involved and excess rolling may occur.
But if the new edge is under the roll, it always hangs free and one never needs to search for it by spinning the roll and thereby unrolling far more than is necessary. Kids just use it all anyway, thereby more frequently clogging the bowl (and we know they always call US to fix THAT), but we fastidious adults attempt to rewind the excess, which means the next person views “pre-owned” tissue, as they say in the used BMW business.
Some avert this social faux pas by gouging at the roll with fingernails to free the mysterious edge, leaving unsightly evidence of recent human visitation of a more frantic nature.
lmfao
In theory, it hangs free and spinning to find the edge may not be necessary but i bet than in more than half the situations, people need to hold the roll to tear it which means that I’m going to spin off the exposed layer anyway (2 times) to avoid touching what someone else touched before.
Herd,

These probably are too big for you but this is what I use
Naples
The roll is a cylinder, therefore no proclivity to hang down easier either way, it just varies by how the person who last used it leaves it. It can hang down either way. 🙂
It’s not the hang part but the distance and direction of the human to it. When it is over the top, it hangs closest to the human. It faces the person and there is less ‘hanging’ distance needed to tear the sheet. I can tear the sheet with the edge right over the top but that is impossible when the roll is coming up from underneath. A human is more likely to pull the roll too much when its coming from underneath.
The Toxic Avenger’s free toilet paper analysis 😀
1/4 of mlb all star starters (4 of 16) played for the A’s in 2014 or 2015. 😦 You know your baseball team sucks when you’re still reading NBA free agency reports at the mlb all star break.
Crazy stat.
I play fantasy baseball and for some reason I drafted (auction style) four A’s on my team this year and have carried 5-6 before.
Stephen Vogt, Khris Davis, Marcus Semien, & Rich Hill.
I also have rostered Jed Lowrie & Coco Crisp at different times (I have Crisp on my roster at the moment).
Hill is back in the rotation finally (Sonny tanking his trade value lol)… Semien and Davis have SHOCKED us with their power this year. Lowrie is a classic Beane guy cuz “he gets on base”. Rickey Henderson said if he could teach Billy Burns a ‘first step’ he’d never get caught stealing 2nd base. You at least got the only guys worth having… but none of them can handle a top-20 pitcher. lol
lol Mike.
I see first world problems are being hotly debated again here! Never a dull moment!
I can’t believe this is even being discussed.
As a keen exponent of origami and having pride in all things bathroom-related (LMFAO …… not) there is only one answer to this question, as the attached tutorial will reveal
http://www.wikihow.com/Fold-Toilet-Paper
PS I think all the fellas should practice one of these and leave it for their better halves to find and see what reaction it gets!?! Fun for all the family.
That’s great stuff UK, but I don’ think I have the patience to go any further than the triangle. Plus, I like soft TP, which I would think would make most of those folds very difficult to accomplish.
Rhino
War-ri-ors . . . . . . Come out and play – yay!
Saw Cespedes is starting CF in all-star game. Immediately thought of all you Mets fans here. 🙂 Surprised I didn’t see much on Wade leaving Miami. LeBatard ranked Wade as the most famous/important sports figure in Miami’s history over Marino and Shula (?)
doldrums I guess. 🙂
Here’s my contribution to the t.p. debate:

LOL
Rhino
Cespedes is holding up his end of the bargain, that’s for sure. He’s playing well, and has been a big part of why the Mets are in still in the NL East hunt.
I wonder if the Mets could snag Melkey Cabrera from the White Sox.
I think he could help them in that lineup.
UkFinfan,
Now I know what you do with your time on the shitter 🙂
LOL @ the “pleated tuck”
LOL @ MIke and Al.
I also prefer the softer varieties so the triangle is the limit of my efforts and patience.
Did you used to have the IZAL brand in the US? I think it was medicated, but had similar properties to greaseproof. It was an origami-lovers dream, but utterly unfit for purpose as it had zero absorbency and if you were unlucky, it was sharp enough to leave you with a rash or lacerations. Ah, fond memories of childhood come flooding back!
https://twitter.com/MDCheer/status/751079326238605312
LOL at the TP discussion. I work for a company that makes TP, so I find this particularly interesting.
I feel bad that Herd had a melt down, but rest assured, they only make those sizes because it is more cost efficient to them. LOL
LOL @ the TP discussion. I think we may have covered it all now.

He could be talking about something other than football (like hanger on’s), but with the one-day holdout does make me worry a bit about him.
He’s talking about his own situation. He’s saying, they don’t really care about him as a person, but he’s really just pissed about his deal. It’s a business first, they all do their jobs to save their jobs first. When they resign him in a couple of years he’ll tweet how much he loves everyone.

Gase was recently ranked 30th best coach in the NFL.
bellicheat was of course 1st.
Hopefully next year they flip-flop
Just a beauty contest, but hard to rank him higher when he hasn’t coached a game yet.
“I’m not sure how official any of these rankings really are.”…sorry Seinfeld reference..
But, and let me be honest, (that was for Mike LOL) they should just leave new coaches off the list until they coach at least one season or half of one season and return the following year.

People were bitching here about the lack of firework shows on the strip, they had shows Saturday and Sunday, but nothing Monday. Locals though buy fireworks and shoot them off, so for 3 hours you could see fireworks going off all over the valley. Best fireworks I’ve seen in a while. Over 900 911 calls came in, but nothing too major.

Bummer dude! I was looking forward to trying on your mitten. lol
Real sorry to hear that, but it ain’t till October. Plenty of time to change your mind though. And not a big deal on the tickets. Sorta of plan ahead on such.
Once more…..would be great to see you there.
Stanger
What row are we in?
Up top….rows 28-30. But other key thing is the highest numbered seats in the section (towards midfield)…aisle is seat 24.
Cool, I think my nephew said he’s getting seats in the same section, about row 19, which is close enough
Lol at up top, I thought you said they weren’t nose bleed seats?
There’s really no such thing in football, the upper deck is better than low. Low you can’t see the field good.
steve — we are definitely the cool kids who sit in the back of the bus. Big move for us last year was going from nosebleeds in the endzone to on the same on the sideline. Key part is the crazy crew in one big section together.
Unless the team is on fire, he should have no problem joining us…..even with all the seats they took out.

If every Black male 18-35 applied for a conceal& carry permit, and then joined NRA in one day; there would be gun control laws in a second
And it would be needed. If every black between 18-35 respected authority we wouldn’t be talking about this.
I want to chime in on the TP coversation above. I’m an over roll guy for the reasons Al points out. The only real issue I have is on occasion the cat will get in the bathroom and bat at the hanging piece and unroll some. Once that starts……there is toilet paper shreds all over the house, a big pile of it in a corner somewhere and NONE left on the roll. The Cat isn’t gonna make it one of these days. 😉

Really Steve? Are you saying these two police shootings in 2 days were the VICTIMS fault? Did you see the videos? SMH I am disappointed at the racist undertones of your post.
I haven’t seen either video yet, I was at work yesterday from 8AM-9PM, and then on the drive home I listened to the Met game, and then watched it when I got home. I was in the blissful state of Metphoria. I’ll see the videos later. I did hear the audio, it sounds pretty awful, and in both cases, like wrongful shootings. Not good.
I can’t even bring myself to watch the vodeoes of listen to the audio.

Stanger,
The fest isn’t about changing my mind. Some things came up and I just can’t go. Hope you guys have a good time and we destroy the bills 30 – 13.
Sorry you can’t make it. It would have been great to meet you!
Hope all is well, but if things change before then the Fest is still an option…..would be different if you had to jump on plane. So it is there for you if things clear up.
I have no desire to watch the videos either Brian.
This is the work way to get the message across:
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/breakingnews/police-5-officers-dead-7-hurt-in-dallas-protest-shooting/ar-BBu5aky?li=BBnb7Kz
worst (damn spell check)
I would think doing nothing would be worse. The problem is both the cops and black men. Black men on the average don’t use the #1 rule when dealing with the police, and that is temper. If you’re civil and calm the police won’t do anything, if you resist, give them lip, or are angry they may feel threatened. And then the trouble starts. It’s not just black men with the attitude. But they seem to scare the most.
I agree though that it’s not a good way of handling the situation. Instead of these protests they should send a message out to their people and teach them how to act when confronted by the police.

No, killing innocent people is much worse Steve.
We have some cops who use excessive force against black people too often then we get a black people vs. white people war as if we’re all the same and we all get along just because we share skin color. Can you be any more ignorant than that?
I hate that they make it about race; it’s about fucking humanity for Christ’s sake!
Exactly! The amount of ignorance out there is alarming.
and I here I thought I could get away from the Facebook debates about race lol
Yeah it’s become ridiculous.
You must not have been on much lately!
It appears we can argue over having the roll under or over on the TP! 😉
It’s over. There is no under, unless my wife wants and earful. lol
The issue that most of the American public misses is that the problems stem more from culture, and not race. Yes, race does factor into it some of the time, and this is exacerbated by the media, but it is a cultural problem that leads people to behave the way they do, and has very little to do with race.
Hear, hear!
Great point
Tim/Mike,
Harvey having season ending shoulder surgery. Ugh.
