Looking forward to the Marlins-Mets game starting at 4 PM. Mets definitely playing better than Miami right now. But, we’ll see. Ichiro now just 11 hits short of 3,000.

  8. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Maybe it’s me, but I can’t understand for the life of me why Granderson is back batting leadoff. I hate the lineup with him batting 1st, and with Harvey on the mound, who we can’t seem to score runs for, why bat him 1st? Puzzling to me. I love the lineup with just about anyone else they’ve batted leadoff better.

  9. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

OK Mets Fans; Harvey makes a wild throw to home on what was a tailor-made double play AND THEN HE DOESN’T COVER HOME as the catcher retrieves Harvey’s wild throw!! –I’ll bet Terry Collins was a bit hot under the collar when he yanked Harvey from the game!! 6-0 Fish, in a game the Mets were favored to win!!

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’d have to say most teams are bizarre. They’re up and down, like most clubs have been. You might think they’ve turned a corner after the 5 game win streak, and I hope that’s the case, but I’m not sure.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah this team is totally unpredictable though. We’ve now beaten the Cubs 8 straight going back to the playoffs right?

  13. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

I really like the lineup so much better with Granderson out of the 1 hole. They need a guy who can put pressure on the defense, pitcher. I’ve felt that way for a long time

  14. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s one of those enigmas, like why the Braves have our number this year. We definitely have the Cubs number, but I’m interested to see how we do against them in Wrigley.

  16. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

5 years ago the GSW’s were a 23 win team. New ownership, overhaul FO…
Before KD the only other ‘star’ free agents signed by Dubs were Baron Davis and Andre Igoudala.

When KD agreed to sign, it was honestly surreal. I keep reading and watching and still can’t believe this has happened. Of all my favorite teams (Fins, A’s, Dubs) I thought the Warriors would be the LAST to figure it out, and Fins would be the first.

No guarantee of championships, as this year proved, but it puts in position of opportunity. It feels truly amazing and I am having so much fun with my family in California (81 first cousins between Ventura and San Luis Obispo) all of whom, except me and one cousin, had been die hard Laker fans. Dubs owner Lacob says he would buy the A’s if they were for sale. 🙂 I wonder if he secretly likes the Dolphins as well?

  17. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I thought this was a Mets blog, what’s with the GSW???

  18. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I would like : RHP on the mound

    3B – Reyes
    SS – Cabrera
    CF – Cespedes
    RF – Granderson
    2B – Walker
    1B – Loney
    C – d’Arnaud
    LF – Nimmo

With a LHP, switch Granderson and Walker

  19. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Rhino,
Good times for you in this current GS era.
They had a few fun teams that never amounted to anything great (RUN TMC …the Don Nelson 1 and 2 era)…
I’m hoping the Fins find their way to this kind of new success.
I don’t even remember what winning feels like. It’s crazy to think that at one time, it was automatic that Miami would make the playoffs and thus the argument was always “are we good enough to make it to the SB?”. Now we argue about being better than 8-8. I think this year they finally will get to double digit wins again :/.

  20. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think Conforto will be fine. When his struggles lasted longer than he expected, he really started pressing which just exacerbated his issues. When he starts tearing up the minor leagues, they’ll bring him back up, but no rush really, especially if Nimmo is still doing well, and Reyes too.

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Cespedes

  22. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

HEY MIKE E: –Did Stanton’s last home run land in YOUR back yard in Joisey?? –Holy SHIT, that was a MONSTER HOME RUN!! –THIS is the Stanton the Fish thought they’d signed to a long term deal, not the slumping Stanton they’ve had for most of this season. If Giancarlo can get his game cranked up, both on offense and on defense, the Marlins WILL HAVE A SHOT FOR A WILD CARD! –As Tim said a few days ago, “there IS talent on this team.”
    ————
ME AND THE MRS. will be gone to Orlando for a convention sponsored by Florida’s statewide numismatic organization. I don’t think the Mets and the Marlins will have it easy, especially since they got issues vs the Braves who are suppose to be the worst competitor in all of the NL and one of the 3 worst in all of the MLB.
I see the Cardinals and Dodgers beating out the NL East teams.
I just don’t see how the Marlins rotation will hold up.
As for NY, i just don’t see them having enough offense.

The best part of the towering HR is hearing the fans go “OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo” the minute it left the bat.

  26. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The first Stanton HR was a bad pitch by Matz. You don’t throw a change up over the plate on 1-2 to a guy like him. The Mets pitchers have a habit of doing that rather than throw a waste pitch like a slider down and away or up and in. They seem to all believe in their stuff so much that they don’t always pitch smart.

But good win for the Marlins to keep things close.

I have to rant. Totally non Dolphins, non-football, non sports related. Unless the fact that hopefully all the people who play use toilet paper. WTF is going on with the TP situation in this country? Have we become so lazy that we need to have quadruple size rolls so we don’t have to change them so often? Forget the fact that my children NEVER put a new roll on the holder, no matter the size! But my issue with these gargantuan sized rolls is they don’t fit on the holder without rubbing the wall. PLUS, I have a holder that matches the rest of my bath fixtures to hold spare rolls. I’m considerate that way. Seems the QUAD rolls are too large to fit inside the spare roll canister. I’m fine with all the lazy asses out there having their quad rolls, put one of those monster rolls up in your home like they have in public restrooms if that’s your thing. My problem is of all the choices and brands at the store, they were ALL the 4X size. I must have stood there for 5 minutes looking for other sizes, but nooooooo, none to be found. I’m Pissed!!!!!….pun intended! 😉

  33. Ken's avatar Ken says:

LOL @ Herd – I believe they still sell TP that isn’t a 4X roll. I know even the double rolls are pretty fat, and I LOL’ed at the kids NEVER putting the roll on the holder. My kids too. WTF, how lazy can you be?

  36. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Not quite engineer pedigree, but I prefer to have the new sheet over the top.

  37. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I’m not sure about engineers, but my wife prefers the TP over the top, so that’s the way it goes in my house.

  38. Phindog's avatar Phindog says:

Whats this TP you are all talking about ?

  39. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    lol Herd.

    Naplesfan,
Definitely go over the top for practical reasons.
You need space between the wall and the paper.
Going underneath gives you a high probability of contact with the wall (very little distance between the paper and wall) when you go to tear the paper or even attempt to grab it for that matter.
And to the tear part, it’s easier for me anyway to tear when its over the top (downward across motion pressing in somewhat) than from underneath where pulling is involved and excess rolling may occur.

  40. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

But if the new edge is under the roll, it always hangs free and one never needs to search for it by spinning the roll and thereby unrolling far more than is necessary. Kids just use it all anyway, thereby more frequently clogging the bowl (and we know they always call US to fix THAT), but we fastidious adults attempt to rewind the excess, which means the next person views “pre-owned” tissue, as they say in the used BMW business.

Some avert this social faux pas by gouging at the roll with fingernails to free the mysterious edge, leaving unsightly evidence of recent human visitation of a more frantic nature.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

      lmfao

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

In theory, it hangs free and spinning to find the edge may not be necessary but i bet than in more than half the situations, people need to hold the roll to tear it which means that I’m going to spin off the exposed layer anyway (2 times) to avoid touching what someone else touched before.

  41. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Herd,
These probably are too big for you but this is what I use

  42. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Naples

The roll is a cylinder, therefore no proclivity to hang down easier either way, it just varies by how the person who last used it leaves it. It can hang down either way. 🙂

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

It’s not the hang part but the distance and direction of the human to it. When it is over the top, it hangs closest to the human. It faces the person and there is less ‘hanging’ distance needed to tear the sheet. I can tear the sheet with the edge right over the top but that is impossible when the roll is coming up from underneath. A human is more likely to pull the roll too much when its coming from underneath.

1/4 of mlb all star starters (4 of 16) played for the A’s in 2014 or 2015. 😦 You know your baseball team sucks when you’re still reading NBA free agency reports at the mlb all star break.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

      Crazy stat.
I play fantasy baseball and for some reason I drafted (auction style) four A’s on my team this year and have carried 5-6 before.
Stephen Vogt, Khris Davis, Marcus Semien, & Rich Hill.
I also have rostered Jed Lowrie & Coco Crisp at different times (I have Crisp on my roster at the moment).

      • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Hill is back in the rotation finally (Sonny tanking his trade value lol)… Semien and Davis have SHOCKED us with their power this year. Lowrie is a classic Beane guy cuz “he gets on base”. Rickey Henderson said if he could teach Billy Burns a ‘first step’ he’d never get caught stealing 2nd base. You at least got the only guys worth having… but none of them can handle a top-20 pitcher. lol

Lol at up top, I thought you said they weren’t nose bleed seats?

There’s really no such thing in football, the upper deck is better than low. Low you can’t see the field good.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

steve — we are definitely the cool kids who sit in the back of the bus. Big move for us last year was going from nosebleeds in the endzone to on the same on the sideline. Key part is the crazy crew in one big section together.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Unless the team is on fire, he should have no problem joining us…..even with all the seats they took out.

If every Black male 18-35 applied for a conceal& carry permit, and then joined NRA in one day; there would be gun control laws in a second

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

And it would be needed. If every black between 18-35 respected authority we wouldn’t be talking about this.

  77. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I want to chime in on the TP coversation above. I’m an over roll guy for the reasons Al points out. The only real issue I have is on occasion the cat will get in the bathroom and bat at the hanging piece and unroll some. Once that starts……there is toilet paper shreds all over the house, a big pile of it in a corner somewhere and NONE left on the roll. The Cat isn’t gonna make it one of these days. 😉

You stay out of this…next thing you know, I will be told your hand is part of some kind of first timer initiation..LOL

Bookman, no had told you that yet? I guess everyone thought you knew already. In all honesty it wasn’t entirely an unpleasant initiation….

bookman……don’t matter how big you are. Sitting behind Rock is — let’s just say — a most different experience. Seems you just locked yourself into it though….lol

Stanger, I already said, I am going to be a complete gentleman and sit quietly through the entire game so those around me can enjoy the game.

Really Steve? Are you saying these two police shootings in 2 days were the VICTIMS fault? Did you see the videos? SMH I am disappointed at the racist undertones of your post.

  81. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I haven’t seen either video yet, I was at work yesterday from 8AM-9PM, and then on the drive home I listened to the Met game, and then watched it when I got home. I was in the blissful state of Metphoria. I’ll see the videos later. I did hear the audio, it sounds pretty awful, and in both cases, like wrongful shootings. Not good.

  83. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I have no desire to watch the videos either Brian.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

      worst (damn spell check)

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I would think doing nothing would be worse. The problem is both the cops and black men. Black men on the average don’t use the #1 rule when dealing with the police, and that is temper. If you’re civil and calm the police won’t do anything, if you resist, give them lip, or are angry they may feel threatened. And then the trouble starts. It’s not just black men with the attitude. But they seem to scare the most.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I agree though that it’s not a good way of handling the situation. Instead of these protests they should send a message out to their people and teach them how to act when confronted by the police.

No, killing innocent people is much worse Steve.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We have some cops who use excessive force against black people too often then we get a black people vs. white people war as if we’re all the same and we all get along just because we share skin color. Can you be any more ignorant than that?

  86. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

and I here I thought I could get away from the Facebook debates about race lol

  87. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

The issue that most of the American public misses is that the problems stem more from culture, and not race. Yes, race does factor into it some of the time, and this is exacerbated by the media, but it is a cultural problem that leads people to behave the way they do, and has very little to do with race.
