Or maybe I’m making too much out of last night not realizing Moore had a concussion. There’s a lot of ways we could go at QB.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Well you sure stirred up the I love Doughty crowd.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I view Doughty as the #3 who wouldn’t be active. But if they like him and want to put him on the PS, he’ll have to clear waivers first. Teams are always searching for developmental QBs so it’s risky.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I don’t think too many teams are jumping out at weak armed rookie QBs that haven’t shown much.

  2. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Dysert looked good last night, but pretty bad against Dallas, and average at best against the Giants, so with those results I don’t think getting rid of Moore is in the plans, and it’s been the opposite of how we’ve handled depth this year.

  3. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Arian Foster after the game on starting or not. Self-obsessed he is not. I smell leader.

“No, it’s just football, People are going through real problems, and football is entertainment. It takes the worries off of the real problems that people have, and hopefully we can get people to not worry for three hours on a Sunday. It’s just football.”

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That’s not a good thing, I’d rather he obsessed over football, but at this stage of his career, and his position it doesn’t really matter.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Guess you could say he has too much money and career to worry about it…..I like to think he has perspective and maturity. We’ll see.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He plays like he cares, and that’s all that matters.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

No doubt he cares, he just doesn’t obsess over things, if he was playing D obsessing over studying game would have more meaning.

  4. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I thought Foster looked okay, but he seems to defintely lost a step. Maybe he will regain some of that burst after some time. Ajyai just didn’t look good at all last night. He was indecisive, and did too much dancing in the backfield. I’m still wishing we kept Miller, now more than ever.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

No doubt RB is a worry, but then Foster showed some and even if Ajayi did not Williams did and there was that Daniel Thomas guy. Is he a UDFA? 🙂

Anyhow….figure this O will be pass heavy anyhow. And seems we are four solid at WR.

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

True, but we need that running game to control the clock and seal the games at the end. As much as this is more of a passing league now, those rules sill apply.

  5. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Hulk like Ruffalo best. Bixby was good too

  6. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Bookman:
I have to be in Madison WI in a couple of weeks for a deposition. What is there to do there?

  7. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Our OL is still struggling moving defenders off the ball in the run game which isn’t unusual because they rarely practice it under the new CBA rules so the PS is where they get to work on it.

Last night we rushed 31-78 and ATL 15-31 so there you go, both teams struggled. I wouldn’t put too much on the RBs. It’s the new way in the NFL.

But I do like that Gase has now called 32, 29 and 31 running plays in our 3 PS games. I bet it would have been half that under Lazor even in the PS.

  8. So Chris Kouffman thinks that because Franks missed a FG in this past game his job is in jeopardy.

Matt Moore will not be cut. That is silly talk. If we get rid of him we will trade him to another team. Of course Tannenbum will probably get a new cafeteria lady for him, but still.

  20. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I didn’t get to watch the game last night. I was flying back from Chicago, thought my DVR was set to record it and was going to watch it when I got home, but because it was on a different channel than it usually is here, locally, it didn’t record. ;-(

All I got was a two seconds of coverage on NFL network this morning before work and what you guys bitched about on here last night to go by. ERRRRRR!!

  21. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

IMO they will keep 3 QB’s on the roster to open the season and try to stash Doughty on the PS. Then they wait until an injury occurs before week 9 and trade Moore once his head is clear and out young guys get a little more practice. (even if it is scout team offense)

Thank you Herd. That is very nice of you, but my window to watch it has closed. I’m going out tonight and have to go up to my place in Rockledge tomorrow to continue repairing the damage my ex-tenants did (no TV up there. Well not furniture at all except the air mattress I brought to sleep on while I work every weekend, LOL) and then I’m flying out to a job-site again on Monday. I wont get an opportunity to watch TV again until game 4 probably.

The game doesn’t count anyway. You didn’t miss anything Rock.

But, but, but there are only 20 Dolphins games in a season. (well, hopefully there are more in the future) I can’t stand missing one. Even if it’s pre-season.

besides, this was the “most important” pre-season game. LOL

  25. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Mike, if you get through darkness at Sethanon, you should jump over to the “empire” series with Jany wurtz. If you want to read them in chronological order (when what happens in the books happens in order and not when the book was written) you can look at this. It lists them out in “time line” sequence.

  26. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

So, Tannehill threw a pick, almost threw another pick, didn’t throw a TD, fumbled, had a 5.3 yard dink average, had a 67.5 rating and played good??

MAN that’s why I needed to see the game. How was that good?

  27. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

well, I’m reading now that people are putting it on the center, but the only “highlight” I saw on TV was a bad angle of the snap being fumbled.

  28. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Rock

I’m 2/3 of the way done with book IV of the Riftwar saga, and now I’m seeing some things in there that are leading me to believe that George RR Martin may have “borrowed” a fair amount from this story. The mad king, the usurper, and really a lot more. Do you see those parallels?

  32. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Mike well I can see the similarities you point out I don’t think that the plot device of a Mad King or the usurper is original to author author. The same similarities can be found in literature throughout the history of fictional writing and even more so in Real History. I don’t think Martin borrowed from Feist.

You are coming to the Fest this year right? Let me know. I am about eight or nine novels ahead of you and I will happily bring you the paperbacks I’v. e already read because it’s unlikely I will read them again in the next 10 years

I loved the redzone zone D the other night. Before the play starts we have the 5 yard line and in covered, this was the Jones int and the play before that, ball was on about the 8. Great job VJ, don’t remember ever seeing a setup on D where I’ve felt that way in the past.

  37. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Rock:
If you watch the game you will see Tannehill looked pretty sharp. Very accurate, good conversion rate on 3rd down, nice 2 minute drill that resulted in Franks missing a chip shot. He did throw a pick on the first drive, it was on a tip. Outside of that he was pretty sharp all night.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I don’t even think Omar can disagree with that.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

He threw one bad pass, late on an out to the right that was almost picked. Outside of that he looked good.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The pass was right on target, the decision to throw it was bad, because he didn’t read the CB, but yeah I agree with this assessment. The INT was on James’ man tipping it, cut that guy James already:P

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

James had a great game outside of that. Pass was on target, yes, but he threw it late.

  38. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ajayi has poor vision, I think even worse than DT3, so Foster should easily be the starter.

Couple things I noticed, on the ON ROSTER NOW, I know it’s only a guide, but instead of John it shows Ulrik, and misspelled it should be Ulrick. I mention the misspelling, because Boulder wrote Urlik, so do you want Urbik or Ulrick John? Then on the DL we have 2 Jones’ listed on the ESPN Roster, but it just shows Jones, which I assume is Chris Jones.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Explains that huge cooler of drinks that Toba and his wife brought to his first fest. At the time was thinking “what a great guy”…..now am thinking should have checked the police reports. 🙂

  40. I would be surprised if MarQueis Gray doesn’t make the Phins on his special teams play.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

You thinking over Stoneburner? Don’t see them keeping 4 TEs.

      • Cameron, despite his drops, and Sims. Then it’s tough because there’s really nobody else who has shown up. Jones has had some catches in games but I don’t know if that’s enough for him to stick.
Haven’t seen Duarte since the Giants game and I’m thinking he gets stashed for the time being but not on the 53.
The only guy who’s had any value other than Jones is Gray with his special teams play. They also used him as a fullback on a running play. He’s not shown anything catching the ball but he’s been pretty solid on special teams. He looks more like a LB than a TE.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Unless they can gut the contract and save money, Cameron will be there and so will Sims. The others are so muddled. Our third TE might be some guy in some other team’s camp right now.

      • that’s a good possibility Stanger. There’s really no other TE who has stood out at all. The only reason I chose Gray is because of his exploits on ST’s and guys make the team on ST’s all the time. I haven’t watched him as a blocker during the games so maybe I need to go back and do that. Maybe that’s what they’re looking for as well.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

What is pretty clear is that they aren’t going to be going power two TE set up. And that only really matters inside the five or short yardage.

If I was Gase would be thinking, “can Suh catch?” Pretty darn sure he could block.

  41. What exactly has Chris McCain done to this point to earn a roster spot? He hasn’t even shown up.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He carries the “potential” tag every season, and doesn’t fulfill it

      • It think he’s going to need to fulfill that “potential” elsewhere. I think Warmsley is making the squad over him, Fede and Coleman. Warmsley offers position flexibility at DT and DE just like Shelby did. He’s getting great push on passing downs and is showing he’s stout against the run on the inside. he can help give starters a blow. In addition, he can pass rush from the DE position. I’d be extremely surprised if he’s not on the 53.

  42. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Lou

I’d be shocked if Duarte doesn’t make the roster

    • Why? What has he done? He had one good play vs Giants and that’s it. His blocking is horrendous. I wouldn’t put him on the 53 over Gray at this point because Gray at least has st’s value. If anything, I see Duarte going practice squad but I’m not a big fan of putting a guy on the 53 who’s really shown little in camp and even less in preseason.

    • the other thing is some guys just don’t like to block and if Duarte is one of those guys he may never become that guy we were hoping for him to be. he can be an asset in the passing game at some point but that may not be enough.

  43. Does Hazel make the roster over Whalen and, if he doesn’t, is he cut early to give him a shot to catch on with someone else? I don’t think he’s PS eligible this year with 2 seasons unless his inactive status makes that possible.

  44. I believe Hazel is probably PS eligible if he’s cut again but while on the PS he’s also free to negotiate with other teams and may jump ship instead of being stuck there another year. I really think Whalen is the guy who’s making the team as the 6th wr.

  45. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I’m sorry (especially to Mike E), but this is why Kaep will not be a FF option for me this year. Not about politics……this just is as stupid as hell from a guy who should be looking for endorsement money. A screw is loose. He could get away with this if he was playing as well as Cam Newton.
    ——————————————–

Colin Kaepernick decided to take a stand by sitting down.

The 49ers quarterback did not stand with the rest of his teammates during the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner Friday night before a preseason game against the Packers at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color, To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

  65. D's avatar D says:

Steve I think doughty is not likely to be the backup simply because as you stated, trans generally don’t roll with a rookie backup. Dysert is more likely the backup if Moore just isn’t going to be ready to roll fit the start of the season. I think though they are going to want to hold on to him.

    • D's avatar D says:

They probably keep him on the 53 unless they are pretty solid he won’t get poached or he is loyal enough to turn down other team offers

  66. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I always go 10-6. Every freekin year! LOL But this time it’s gonna happen, and we’re gonna sweep the Pats this year too. We’ll Beat the Texans in the WC game and lose the next week.

  67. D's avatar D says:

You cut guys at this round you think likely have a chance to make it through waivers or you really have no desire to keep. I heard and interview with someone recently where it may have been Gase discussing it and it’s counter intuitive to some extent not as straight forward as a lot of us see it

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That’s mostly true, but we see guys all the time that get cut early, so they have a chance to make another teams roster. Not sure what clearing waivers has to do with it, if you cut someone they get claimed off of waivers or after waivers. what’s the difference to any team?

      • D's avatar D says:

He was saying you cut a guy you think might clear waivers then be signed to PS. If they are claimed of waivers the are being signed to an active roster, si they have to become FA to be signed directly to the PS

      • especially considering the guys signed to teams’ practice squads are usually those who were with the team in camp for the most part. Hazel, however, was most likely released to give him a shot with someone else.

When Dak beats out the glass Romo we can trade for Romo and maybe make a run if he survives.

Well I am excited about this team more so than any in a while…(Hated Philbin after year 2) I have projected 9 wins or better for Miami and i think they can do it this year.

    Fins Up!

  72. so is Moore one of the cuts this weekend or next?

    • D's avatar D says:

I think it depends on his concussion recovery. If he isn’t ready to go they may cut with injury settlement, but I think it’s still kinda a “in limbo” decision.

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

I doubt we cast off a vet QB at this point. We already are stuck with Tannehill we can’t be totally bare behind him.

    • D's avatar D says:

If dysert was a little more seasoned I’d say they might be leaning that way right now, but he isnt do I think it really just depends if his concussion is going to keep him from being available for game 1. A backup QB isn’t worth anything if the aren’t available

    • yeah, but where’s the gap between Moore and Dysert? There isn’t one and Dysert is a lot more familiar with Gase’s O than anyone. I would rather see him take the majority of snaps in the last game and let him get his work in. He’s not done any worse than Moore to this point. We don’t really need Moore anymore and Dysert’s experience in Gase’s O is more valuable at this time.

      • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

There’s a huge, HUGE gap in experience and actually playing real games

      • Moore isn’t the same guy he was 4 yrs ago. I think Dysert was brought in to compete for the #2 because he was with Gase in CHI and DEN, knows the system, and he’s shown enough that they can feel comfortable with letting Moore go.
Tannehill not missing a game makes that decision a lot easier as well.

  73. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

D, I missed that Romo actually broke a bone I just knew he went down after only a few plays.

    • D's avatar D says:

Last game he left with a back injury. Today they announced that an MRI showed he broke a bone. They said he night could still play but they would have to do a tap to keep the pain at bay until it healed. If I were them I’d IR him with the designation to return and not push the issue like they did last year

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Out six to eight weeks, even though the initial reports were “no big deal.” Happened hours after I drafted him.

But D did me a favor — now I am a huge Brock Osweiler fan in FF.

  74. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

I wanted to be optimistic this year but our QB just can’t get the ball in the endzone. We can’t win enough games to make noise only scoring 17-18 points a game. It’s too bad cause our D should be pretty good and fun to watch.

I should have suspected based on all the news reports we get every winter.

If I had a dime for every “news at eleven” alert about being on the look out for “Maple Leaf burnt red Canadians” after this or that major crime. Was just thinking they were from Quebec, or Ontario at least.

  78. Considering Tannehill hasn’t missed a game I don’t think it’s as difficult a decision to part ways with Moore as some would think. With Dysert’s experience in Gase’s offense and the fact that he’s done well in camp and preseason I think it’s something that’s definitely happening

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

It’s not out of the question but so far I have been underwhelmed with Doughty and think we should keep Moore and Dysert while Doughty is PS material.

      • D's avatar D says:

I think doughty has the rookie rush. I think he is just trying to hard, and the game is still a bit of a big stage for him. His skills seem good enough to be a development kinda guy, but things are a little bit for him still. Dysert doesn’t seem to be as overwhelmed

  79. D's avatar D says:

I probably should have jumped in y’all’s FF league this year. I’m not running mine for first time in like 6 years and another I use to be in also dissolved after several years. I have been thinking of doing draft kings or something like that but I’m sure that won’t be as much fun

The 1st game, or maybe it was the 2nd, there were 2 dropped TD passes. Is that Tannehill’s fault?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tannehill struggled the 1st game, but the 2nd game he looked good, and I thought he looked good last game too.

Looked good at what? Scoring 7 against a shit defense?
Shit throw got tipped then picked, shit throws all over the place its like the completions are because of luck.

    • D's avatar D says:

Really Mike it was more like one. That one for Landry was kinda odd ball it was like he was actually throwing it away and it stayed in bounds I think both Tanny and Landry were caught off guard that a play could still be made one it. But the Cameron should have come down with his. His last drop in the end zone from last game, defender

      • D's avatar D says:

Defender should have been called for PI because he was draped over him so hard before the ball got there that he severely impeded his ability to catch the pass

I think the D will be fine. Atl couldn’t even block Suh and it should be like that most games.

Suh has looked good and I think the DL will be fine. It’s the back 7 I worry about. In particular LBs and CBs. They are weak imo.

    • D's avatar D says:

I’m worried more specifically about one LB at this point and he definitely looked better last game. I’m am strongly concerned about CB 2 and a little bit about CB 1, and S 2

Not sure what you are watching but Tannehill has looked good last 2 games. If he plays like he has last 2 games and we get the pass protection we had the last 2 games we will be alright at least on O. Just got to get some people in back 7 on D to make plays.

Toba, Maxwell redeemed himself a little over the Dallas game where he got utterly dominated by Dez Bryant

I feel OK about Maxwell I just hope he continues to improve his play. The other spot is completely concerning. I also haven’t see a lot if consistent play from Isa, so I’m just glad we have Jones back there to lean on.

    • D's avatar D says:

You don’t need to be concerned with points in PS, they aren’t showing a lot of their better designed plays, it’s all vanilla plays to get good tape on the players. Tanny gas done fine, he looks better in several areas I thought he regressed in last year. I’m optimistic at this point.

  93. D's avatar D says:

Just heard that new NFL rule for horse collar is that uniform grab around the name area counts for horse collar call now, and that dreads/long hair are considered part of the uniform. What a really bs advantage that gives guys who grow their hair out like that. makes tackling them from behind high chance for flag

TE Arthur Lynch got cut by Atlanta.

  96. Even I’m not bashing Tannehill this time around. He showed some leadership of the offense these past 2 games and the reason why I was pleased with his performance against Atlanta was because there was a really good mix of shorter and intermediate passes and he completed a lot of those intermediate shots to Stills. He’s also spreading the ball around. Now maybe the design of the offense is different but he seems to be seeing the field better and making better and quicker decisions with the football.
Also, he’s been handling pressure better. Doesn’t seem to be getting as flustered with the pressure and he’s hanging in there and making the throw rather than going into a fetal position as soon as he see’s a defender getting close. I’ve been impressed thus far.
