Game Wrap Up with the Little Prawn: Steelers @ Dolphins

steelers-at-dolphins

The Dolphins went into their 3rd home game of the season with a pitiful 1-4 record.

But that hasn’t stopped many Dolfans from supporting their team including the Little Prawn –  But you know…

I haven’t seen Prawny since the Tennessee loss.

I hope he didn’t take that loss so badly

What?!?!

NO PRAWNY DON’T DO IT!

prawnwalesuicide

Oh My….

Well after throwing himself into a whale’s mouth, I guess Prawny can still watch the game…

That’s a loyal little shellfish

prawnwatching-tv

And what a game it was

Where to start?

Oh Yeah…On the obvious!

ajayi3-copy

Jay Ajayi had 204 rushing yards on 25 carries.  What a day!

In this photo a Happy Prawny guides Ajayi to the end zone on a long TD run.

Ajayi’s day was one of the the best rushing days in Dolphins history.  It reminded a lot of us of the days of Ricky Williams.

Ajayi actually had over 8 yards a carry – and he just kept going and going!

ol-v-steelers2-copy

Here Prawny points out what a great job the Offensive Line did for Ayaji.

Albert – Tunsil – Pouncey – Bushrod – James

That was the vision in the offseason and Sunday was the first time we saw it and it worked!

It wasn’t just the ground game – the Dolphins did not give up a sack on Sunday

WTF!

I didn’t know that was possible.

tanny-v-steelers-copy

And that helped Ryan Tannehill a lot.

Tannehill did not have a spectacular day.

He didn’t throw a TD or break 300 yards.  But he was solid.

Escaping pressure, hitting tight ends you didn’t even know were on the roster, and he didn’t turn the ball over once.

Tannehill’s day could have looked statistically better but for some drops.

But the formula on Sunday worked

RUN THE BALL!

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins on the other hand did have a few sacks.

In fact, Rothlisberger had to leave the game in the 2nd quarter

But he returned….to throw some interceptions

I would not call it a dominant performance on defense, but considering the Steelers have one of the NFL’s top offenses, holding the Steelers to under 300 yards was quite an achievement.

Antonio Brown was held to under 40 yards receiving.

The Steelers passed for under 200 yards on that day.

And despite missing some opportunities to score, the Dolphins won!

Anyone else like Williams being utilized as a FB here and there? I like it.

Smoke Em If Ya Got Em.. 🙂

    • D says:

I like the two back set, i dont think it matter whome we have in the “FB” spot because its not a true FB position, but i do really like the idea of confusion on hand off, and other things you can do out of that formation.

Also ..reply to your post above.

      • D says:

Williams is starting to grow on me some now. This year he is really showing value and there are just things he can do that can really catch a defense off guard so betwen he Drake Ajayi we have a nice stable of backs, and i think we could actually have mighty mite in on double backfield plays as well as some single back ones.

Cause you are all Wimps.. like to see ya get an inch of snow and see what happens.. LOL

Are you kidding me.. We would call for a state of emergency and have to bring in the National Gaurd.

  5. D says:

I could rally see them on play action, Ajayi in the FB spot, Grant in the HB spot and then play action dive with Ajayi quick naked screen to Grant and just see what he can do with the wide open side of the field.

  6. D says:

Last time we got maybe inch and ahlf here, there were car abandoned on the side of the road, it kind of looked like a zombie apocalypse movie where people just got out of their cars and fled lol. Cars were sliding all over. We are not prepared for that shit. God forbid its an ice storm which oddly enough we get even less frequently.

    • D says:

incidentally we only get snow enough to actually accumulate where we can play with it or whatever, once every decade. Even when i was younger it was probably once every 3-5 years. I have probably see it get in single digit temperatures down here 4 times in my whole life. I have been up north to experience plenty of it, so i know its not as fun as a lot down here envision it, so i in no way wish for more of it. I would like to have less summer months, blistering heat for 9 months out of a year kinda sucks too.

    • manitobafinfan says:

I have to drive on that 6 months of the year LOL..

We are cool, i was being sensitive, text doesn’t always come off as it should.

    D,

just my simple minded opinion. kind of what i told piggy yesterday. no one can read the intent or tone a message come across in here. so just my simple way of reading things here are just to read them as they are, black and white. try to read no emotion in them or if any just assume it is busting balls in a fun way. well unless you are chatting with tim or stanger, those guys are just filled with hate for everyone. never have anything nice to say.

  8. Ken says:

I just sent a test group text to all those attending the Fest. If you are attending the fest and did not receive my text please email me your cell phone # at kenmastroni@sbcglobal.net. I still need cell #s for OD and I presume Stanger has Warren’s info. I also need a status on Howie if he is coming or not and if so I need a cell # for him.

  9. Rockphin says:

    MIke E, check your e-mail!

  10. Tim Knight says:

D, this is what I see from our RBs at this time:
Ajayi is going to be the workhorse back. He really looks the part. Obviously off of this game it’s easy to say but he really does look the part.

Drake will eventually make more of an impact. He’s got some big plays in him that haven’t happened yet. He also plays STs.

Williams is very versatile and a core STs player.

Foster is a calming presence in the RB room with his experience and he can help on a key down in pass pro or as a receiving outlet which he’s very good at it. He did it yesterday.

Like I’ve said in the past, Gase and his staff have been learning this team and they’re starting to sort it out and find roles for these guys, who they can trust. Let’s hope we can keep building on it and become a force. 🙂

    • D says:

Foster would probably be a good keeper, IF his pay reflects his role. I have a feeling he is going to look for an extended role somewhere else though after the year, i doubt he will re-sign at what the Phins are going to want him at. Maybe im wrong but he seems to intent that he hasnt seen his last days as a a starter and unless Ajayi just disappears, i think he can maintain this lock down on the starting spot. We will probably get Drake more time in there before too long and yeah he does have homerun ability. He runs really similar to Ajayi, he just hasn’t gotten the snaps yet. Once we are running it 30 times a day we probably see more of a 20-10 split in carries, maybe even 20-15 it could be the beginning of having a balanced, ball control offense.

      • Tim Knight says:

Yeah but I’m not focused on Foster outside of this season. I doubt he’s back next season. But he can help the young backs this year immensely with his experience.

I have no problem with Ajayi, Drake and Williams right now. That’s the core group moving forward. Williams was more involved than Drake yesterday. Game to game.

  11. Rockphin says:

LOL I just saved Mike E’s phone number to my phone from the Group text he sent. When I saved it my phone asked me if I want to associate a photo with the contact. I didn’t have one so I took a picture of my own hand as his Avi. LOL

  12. Ken says:

I would love to see Williams utilized more at FB and Drake get more reps as a 3rd down back.

  13. D says:

Drake is kind of Miller mixed with Ajayi, he has that cut and accelerate ability of Miller, and can actually power run like Ajayi, where he hits the hold fast and with force. Ajayi might have the advantage there but Drake is capable there as well.

  14. Ken says:

    D:
I would like to see us move on from Foster. I want more reps for Drake. I don’t think Foster adds that much right now. His role can be taken on by Williams.

    • D says:

His value to me is in the RB room with the young guys. He is a effective runner, no wasted motion, like Gase says. Thats very rare, but yeah im not for him taking reps, but he has value to us outside his running ability. Id keep him at the same role if he wanted to start to be that guy.

To be more accurate you should have found an older man and took a picture of his hand….you know Mike E is like 80ish or something like that right?

D, I didn’t need to look up a picture of an older man’s hand. I had one right at the end of my wrist! Age spots and all!

  17. Rockphin says:

I just noticed those age spots this weekend. It was depressing.

  18. Rockphin says:

  25. Rockphin says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! NOOOOO NOOOOO NOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    (on Reshad Jones)

  26. D says:

You have to see the silver lining in things, so this Jones thing shouldn’t be looked at end of his season, but more of a bargaining chip for us re-signing him at more reasonable money!

    • D says:

Safety might also be moving up the draft list. Peppers anyone? (i actually see him more as a LB for us but her, versatility ya know!)

  27. Ken says:

Al in Miami I need an updated cell # the one I have for you from the last time I was there does not appear to be current. Please email me at kenmastroni@sbcglobal.net

  28. Ken says:

Well that may be the last we see of Jones in Miami. I would not be shocked if he becomes a cap casualty next year. At least it was a hell of a last game and hopefully he is not a cap casualty. You know me the power of negative thinking – an optimist can never be pleasantly surprised.

  29. Mike E. says:

  35. Mike E. says:

    LMAO Doggy!

  36. D says:

Im not sure if Zach Cunningham isnt my favorite LB prospect in the nation right now, possibly one of the best defensive prospects all the way around. Anyone else scouting him here, he pratically single handedly beat UGA this past weekend.Vandy doesnt have a ton of other talent around him, so its pretty impressive what he is doing right now.

  37. Tim Knight says:

WTF, Reshad Jones is done for the year?

  38. 81Howie says:

But I’m going with us staying HOT just give BUF a TD instead of a FG

  39. Mike E. says:

    Howie

    MIA 23 – BUF 20

  40. Tim Knight says:

If we lose Jones, time for Thomas and Aikens to step up. Nothing else we can do.

Culliver is getting close to practicing at corner. He could help the secondary.

  41. Rockphin says:

What are “old man balls” and how do you know about it ?

    • Mike E. says:

I used to work at a beach club in Brighton Beach Brooklyn as a security guard. I had to walk through the men’s lockers all the time, it was the only way to get to the property once you got past the gate. Old men were always dragging their balls on the floor, I used to cringe seeing stuff like that. That’s what old man balls are!

    • Phindog says:

I wanted to interject to Rock/Ken/ et. al.

We had a snake in the brewery a couple of months ago. Your standard garden variety, nothing too intimidating, but I had a new brewer on staff that day and told him it was his responsibility to remove it. What I didn’t tell him is that I truly hate snakes. I once screamed like a small girl when I ran across one in the hiking trail, but luckily nobody was around to make fun of me for it.

Instead I just played it cool and made the new guy do it. He wasn’t sure how so I told him, step on his head then grab him right at the base of his skull so he can’t bite you (I learned this from television mind you..)

He did as instructed, but didn’t get right at the base of the skull. Once he picked him up the snake did a 180 with his head and bit him right in the hand!

I told him congratulations, he was the first person I’d ever known who was bitten by a snake in the line of duty…in a brewery.

But for the grace of god….there go I. It’s good to be the boss. 🙂

Hope y’all enjoy the beers next weekend. Go fins!

  47. Jahndoh30 says:

@ Mike, of course bud, many thanks to Herd who coordinated it all and paid the shipping (which was just as expensive as the beer!)

  48. Arian Foster is this year’s Jennings. People think he’s of value to the younger guys, and that may be true, but he doesn’t have it anymore.
    D,
I’ve been looking at Reuben Foster and Zach Cunningham and have been looking at their games from ’15 and ’16. Haven’t had a chance to see either’s game from this past week but I’ll be watching both. I also like Micah Kiser from UVA and Calvin Munson of San Diego St. Check those guys out too. In addition, I’ve been looking at the other LB mentioned here, Jarrad Davis of Florida. Some good prospects at LB in the ’17 draft.

  49. finfanrob says:

i know it isnt funny but just reading about r. jones is just typical for us fin fans. when the team has a great game and maybe they turned some corner they have one of the best players on defense go down for the year. just typical of being a fan.

    • and it came out of nowhere. there was no indication from anyone he was hurt after the game yesterday. I think everyone was taking it for granted we came out of the game pretty healthy. what the hell? was he hanging out in the showers with Tunsil?

  50. If Jones is finished I just hope to God they don’t rely on Michael Thomas. Or maybe I do. Maybe he’ll be cut if they start him. Mmmm. Be careful what you wish for.

  51. finfanrob says:

lol like any of us dont know why jahn is afraid of snakes. we all know it ruined your perfect couple in the garden

  61. finfanrob says:

and then i am once again i am wrong and correct when it hits even another low when jahn says he cant wait for all you guys to enjoy his package

  62. I thought you guys knew Jahn better than I did. His real name is Rufus.

  63. Ken says:

LMAO at Jahn and the snake. Too funny that God doesn’t like snakes

  64. herdfan says:

I made a unilateral decision to have a few prizes for some of the contests here so I don’t expect anyone to contribute. I think it makes it a little more fun to have a prize. I was trying to find something for the roster challenge and Jahn’s brew popped in my head, I sent him an email and he was gracious and generous enough to agree. Once he learned Son was going to take it to the fest and share he made sure there would be enough for everyone and I for one couldn’t be happier about how it turned out. Not sure how I’m going to top this for next year.

Thanks for the thought though ffr.

  65. Ken says:

Can’t wait to try some of Jahn’s brew

  66. finfanrob says:

    herd,

not the first time you did that. and like i said i dont even do the contest but just seems a bit unfair you go above and beyond more then some on here to help out with the contest.

    • herdfan says:

It’s not unfair at all. Would be more unfair if I said hey, we are having prizes now all you guys give me some money. In fact, had a small issue with Jahn when he didn’t want to let me pay the shipping as we had AGREED! I won that argument! lol

Lou, yes stats can can be looked at in a lot of ways. But until we have 2-3 more good rushing performances, I don’t view us as a consistent rushing team. Yesterday was a good start though. Let’s keep that starting OL on the field for a few games at the least and see what happens.

  84. Phindog says:

I just watched an ARZ run get called back because the WR tapped a tackler on the back well after the 1st down. It had nothing to do with anything and it had no impact on the play. Why call it? This game is ridiculous. Hey NFL, you better re-evaluate your game. This shit sucks!
