Well amongst very lows and some recent highs our Dolphins have reached the bye week of the 2016 season with a chance to make some noise as they prepare to make a playoff run. The season started slow with heartbreaking
crushing losses to Seattle and new England, followed by a squeaked out win over the hapless Browns. The lowest of the low points occurred following that Browns win by looking horrible in a drubbing by the Titans and a no show in orange loss to the Bengals on Thursday night. The Titans whooped the Dolphins in every phase of the game causing fans to surrender the season. They contemplated the next draft, questioned new coach Adam Gase, traded quarterback Ryan Tannehill and any other fin who could bring a decent draft pick. It had us all, as fans, feeling like nothing changed from previous years and that we were in for a very long season. 1-4 looking bad.
Then it happened.
Week 6 brought the Steelers to the newly renovated Hard Rock Stadium, the second of four straight Dolphin home games, and the fan base in total despair.
This would be the knock-out punch that confirmed everything the Titans game had shown us the week prior. Adam Gase and the Dolphins had other plans, thankfully. Gase escorted three offensive (very offensive) linemen out the door, having had enough of their failures. His starting 5 Linemen from early in the off season were poised to play together for the first time in the season. Jay Ajayi became the major benefactor as he intoduced himself to the country by rushing over and stomping the Steelers with over 200 yards rushing. A glimmer of hope emerged for Dolphin fans everywhere.
Entering week 7 the Dolphins faced division rival Buffalo in the Fest game (world renowned) needing to win to stay alive in the division
, needing to win to show they could keep up with surging Buffalo, needing to win to have any chance of continuing the season with any hopes for playoff glory, needing to win to show the Steelers beat down wasn’t a fluke. And needing to win because Larry Csonka along with Coach Shula and a host of other Dolphin greats were in attendance for Alumni weekend. With Fest attendees in place Jay Ajayi continued is ferocious running and the late surging Dolphins knocked out Buffalo with another 200+ yard running performance by Ajayi and his O-line. The Fest game saw Buffalo get handed their ass as they came off 4 straight wins with dominant running and run defense, neither of which was a factor in the Fest loss.
So here we are at the bye week with a team that looks focused and poised to make a legit run at the playoffs. Is it real? Are the last 2 weeks who the Dolphins really are or are they the Dolphins we saw for the first 5 weeks? Recent evidence favors the team we’ve seen for the last two games. A healthy O-line featuring 4 first round picks, a new coach learning his team, a back establishing himself as one of the best in the league and a Defense finding its stride – stopping the run, pressuring the QB and getting off the field.
Bye week. Bi-polar. Is the team bi-polar, will they be good for a stretch and then look like the first five weeks did? As long suffering fans we can only hope that Coach Gase has tapped in to something, that he’s found the heart of this team, that what we saw most recently is the emergence of a physical team that wins in the trenches and is capable of beating anyone on any given Sunday. That the soft Dolphins who for years have failed to string together wins, dominate teams and win big games went out the door when Thomas, Turner and Douglas were fired.
Now it is time to reveal this year’s Bye week Bi-Babe.

Seems the US betters at least don’t completely buy into the Phins as a changed team quite yet.
We are 3.5-4 point favorites against the Yets at home.
Least we don’t have to worry about a “trap game.”
I think it’s logical, it’s a divisional game, which are usually close, and both teams seasons are pretty much riding on this game.
I think the Jets are a bad match up for us. They run the ball well. They have big physical WRs and they have a big physical DL. This will be a difficult game.
Cam Newton MVP at the bottom . . . .
Ken
The Jets don’t really run the ball that well. Forte has only reached 100 yards twice, and he just got to 100.
correct. the Jets aren’t the running team they were last year and their run game shouldn’t be the problem for us it’s been in the past.
we play this game the way we played the last two and we should be okay.
Jets are in the final game of a four game road trip. They are probably beat by now.

Tampa Bay wound up not releasing CB Johnthan Banks; instead it is trading him to Detroit, per league source. So there’s another trade.
I would have thought if he was available, we would have been interested, especially if they waived him

I don’t think that’s happening either
would be a HUGE surprise. with the way the team is playing right now you’d not want to turn your season to complete shit with that trade. Unless it’s for Sean Lee
The talk on Twitter is of the Dolphins trading for Joe Haden 🙄
Never going to happen
I agree. I’d rather go after Tabor or Humphrey in the draft and if we end up later in the 1st there’s always Mr. Iowa Desmond King.
I don’t think so either.
I’d much rather a trade for a LB if we bring in someone of starting caliber. I liked the Telvin Smith idea someone mentioned the other day. Jags are in the shitter anyway.
The yards per attempt stat is revealing of something that Tannehill has improved greatly on this year
That stat shows on the field too IMO
It might just be getting away from Philbin WCO
Or the running game revival
But I like it when the stretch the field
And they have managed to do it without turning the ball over in those situations which isn’t easy
Tannehill has really improved his deep passing game
And Gace is willing to take shots down the field
I love Haden
But the Browns have clung to him and Joe Thomas through a lot of bad seasons
I don’t think they are dumping there good players in a fire sale
I don’t like the idea of the dolphins giving up first or 2nd round picks either even though the quality of the player is amazing
me neither. we’ve got X man and Lippett’s been coming along. If Maxwell continues to improve we won’t need Haden and can just build from within.
Maxwell ? Improve ?

X Howard has been out with an injury and is still 5th on team in tackles behind Kiko, Isa, Reshad and Max.
Wouldn’t want to trade Wake for a pick. We’ve got to get a player in return and he’s got to be a starter. ONLY guy I’d be interested in trading Wake for is Sean Lee straight up. Byron Jones maybe too, but Lee definitely
The Browns are puzzling. Trade for Collins but willing to trade away Hayden
If we got a good offer for Wake I would be fine with trading him. As much as we are playing better now I still don’t see us as contenders yet and Wake has a limited shelf life
It would have to be a 1st RD pick to let him go right now. If we were 2-5, I’d let him go for less, but not after those 2 wins, just can’t do it. I think it sends a bad message to the team, so in that regard, I don’t think we do it in any case.
definitely. It would have to be a 1st rd pick or a player who could start for us and make an impact. Wake is better than anything the Cowboys have on their team right now in terms of a pass rusher and makes them more of a SB contender so we’d have to get a guy that makes us a better team as well. That’s why if it’s the Cowboys it would have to be a 1st rd pick or someone like Sean Lee who automatically makes our LB unit a much better unit.
Agreed. I don’t think a team is trading a 1st rd pick for a 34 year old DE.
Trade him. This team will end up out of the playoffs anyway.
Very possible, but you can’t do it now unless you’re getting a lot in return. We’re playing well now, and still alive, which it makes it much less likely.
Your comment “I think it sends a bad message to the team” nailed it.
Thanks
I agree with Mike about the message you send. To me, you trade Wake at this point it’s got to be for something substantial that tells the team you’re looking at getting better or you send a message to the team that you’re tanking your season by letting go of your most impactful defensive player and then you’ve got a huge motivation problem.
8 tackles and 3 sacks in about half a season? Yeah, that’s first round trade material there. Lol
Consider that Wake has played 195 defensive snaps and has those stats and Crawford has played 328 and has 18 tackles and 3.5 sacks he’s more valuable at this point to the Cowboys than he probably is to us because they ain’t got shit in terms of pass rush ability. So, if the Cowboys really want him and they pony up on their end I’d trade him but it’s got to be a pretty good deal for us.
MikeE,
I don’t buy into the “bad message” idea. This team is under .500 and has played poorly most of the season. This 2 game blip is not anything worth getting excited about. It’s not like Wake has been tearing it up this season. This FO needs to plan for the future. What will Wake bring to this team in 2 or 3 years when it actually matters?
“This 2 game blip is not anything worth getting excited about.” Why not, I’m excited about it. Wake is also playing really well right now.
It’s about now though. Still alive, with a big divisional game coming up Sunday. Win that game, you’re 4-4, winning 3 in a row, and 2-1 in the division, still very alive. I’ve wanted to trade Wake for a couple of years, but I just don’t think now is the time.
If you have a team full of players that will start not playing their best simply because the team trades away an aging, barely productive veteran, then the team has much bigger problems. The message would be: Shut the hell up and do your job. Motivation should not be an issue. That’s fan talk.
It’s not about trading Wake. It’s what you get for him in return. If you’re trading him for something that’s not going to impact your team then you keep him because he’s worth more to you as a player.
Wake’s snap count was reduced due to his injury, not because he wasn’t playing well. Now that his snap count is going up his impact can be seen.
This place is drowning in koolaid. Everyone is ready to blow the team up after the first 5 games and thinking playoff run after 2 wins. The team isn’t bipolar…it’s fans are. Lol
That’s the way sports is. The team has looked much better the last two games. If you can’t enjoy it why even bother following them?
I’m not thinking playoffs. I’m thinking winning season and about the future of the team. I’d be all for trading Wake if it puts us in a better position going forward by getting a player who starts for us or by getting a high enough pick we can turn it into a player who can be a starter for us soon enough.
Tim Knight says:

Agreed. I don’t think a team is trading a 1st rd pick for a 34 year old DE.
the Raiduhs traded a fist round pick to NE for an aging Richard Seymour…..but I think Seymour was only 30 and Bellicheat had pictures of Davis at a gay porn party.
Yeah and the Pats traded him because he was often injured and making a lot of money.
If we beat the Jets we can absolutely think playoffs. That doesn’t mean we’ll make it but as long as we’re alive for it why not hope for the best? No doubt we’re going to have to win a bunch of games to make it, minimum of 6 more.
7-2 over the next nine games without any “help” from other teams spiraling out of control. The AFC west is way ahead right now. BOTH wild cards would come out of the west if the playoffs started today.
Yes but those west teams have to still play each other a few more times and things can change quickly in a couple of weeks.
So my short answer is WE ARE NOT going to make the playoffs this year.
We got a lot of work to do but I want to see the next few games to see if we’re really on the rise or it was simply just a couple of good games.
Lol Randy
No one is talking playoffs here
Wanting return for Wake is not drowning in kook aid
If we trade some one
I want return for that piece
We could be 0-7 and I would say that
And in terms of positivity
People should be enthusiastic about the last 2 games
That’s what being a fan is about
Lou,
Bottom line for me is I’d try for a second round pick for Wake but probably settle for a third. This FO needs to build for the future. Wake will probably not be part of it.
I said that earlier but I think a 3rd is too low. When you look at the Cowboys they are a playoff contender. Wake very possibly makes them a SB contender so they need to pony up more than that
We probably would not get a player equal to wakes quality with a 3rd
So I would not care for that trade
We are one of many teams within 1 game of .500 this year
I think there are about half a dozen teams with either 2 or less losses or 2 or less wins
The whole league is mired in mediocrity right now
And we are one of 20 or so teams in that pot
We can easily go 8-8 from here
But 6-10 or 10-6 are probably just as plausible
A few weeks ago it seemed like 6 or less wins was likely
I think that feeling is in the rear view mirror and with good reason
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero 26m26 minutes ago
Dion Sims is still in the concussion protocol but he has advanced to the level where he can practice.
Piggy,
I’m not telling anybody not to be enthusiastic. It has definitely changed the way people around here view this team. The comments speak for themselves. I prefer to keep an even keel and not ride the rollercoaster….that’s just me. I still think we’re probably a .500 ball club at year’s end. Now, if they can somehow reel off another 5 wins in a row, i’ll start to get a little giddy…maybe. Lol
I think 5 in a row is a possibility. Will it happen? We’ll see. But it’s not as far-fetched as it would have seen earlier. I was tanking on the team but I have a newfound trust in Gase and his guys and part of it is the way they adjusted in the last two games to give us the best chance to win.
Look at the blocking of the o-line, not just how well they executed, but also what they did with it with moving James to LT and having Albert lined up as a TE with Gray next to him.
Look at the way they moved defensive linemen around to confuse the opposing offenses the last two games. They are doing things differently that are making an impact rather than just beating their heads against the wall.
They’ve taken what I called “the biggest group of underachievers I’ve ever seen” and made them play better. Don’t know how they did it and don’t care but I think it’s going to be a lasting effect
Look at the NFL standings and tell me that the whole team is not mired in mediocrity
It’s what the league is right now
The thing to look at is who gets hot
If our team plays like it has the last 2 weeks for an extended amount of time, we will be hard to beat
But if we are can’t do that And go through ups and downs like we have 8-8 is probably going to happen
The irony of your post is that it’s the rollercoster that has us destined to be .500.
We can easily lose 2 games, then win 2 more, then lose 2 more and so on and so on
But I do think a productive ground game is more likely to give us some stability – so the last 2 games are a good sign
I agree. We get hot right now and could easily rip off 5 or 6 in a row. As long as we stay healthy anything can happen and a lot of my faith comes from the coaching staff we’ve got right now.
Between the benchings and the cuts and the change in offense to run the ball more the last two games in order to control the clock and keep the D off the field and the way VJ approached the last two games defensively our coaching staff just isn’t along for the ride.
Some coaching staffs look good because of the players on the team but I think this staff is busting it’s ass to get the most out of these guys.
I wouldn’t be talking about playoffs right now. I just want to see the team looking like Gase and Co. has the JUICE and is getting this team on the right track. If we’re competitive each week and continue to play like we’ve been we could end up putting together a good run to end the season. That’s all I’m asking for
Being a fan of this team isn’t so much a matter of drinking Kool-aid as it is taking Prozac. 😳

I say go for the ride until it slows down. Enjoy it while it lasts. The Jets game is huge. A home game, a divisional and AFC opponent. Even if we lose a good contested close game it changes playoff hopes quite a bit. A win has us right in the mix though.
If we win this we’re sitting good at 2-1 in the division and the Pats are the only other team with a winning record vs divisional opponents.
Making the playoffs is one thing. Making headway in the division and becoming competitive within the division is another thing. We need to do that first
Prof Lou
I have renewed faith in the coaching as well
I 2nd guessed every move in sept
Not taking Ajayi to Seattle
Waiving 3 OL in 1 week
Benching Maxwell
Benching Parker
They all seem to have worked
I don’t know how
But it seems to have yielded positive results
I think we need to give Gase credit for some bold moves
Gase is setting a new standard. Don’t play well and we’ll look for someone else. Branch replacing J. Jones and other moves on the DL and at LB.

We’ll need some Prozac around here if we run for 80 yards against the jets and lose. We’ll be back to “blow it up” posts all day. Lol

Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley 9m9 minutes ago
Earl Mitchell was allowed to practice today, but he still has time until he can play.
I didn’t realize Earl Mitchell was still 2 weeks away
Gase said they’re not ready to just throw him out there and play a bunch of snaps. Today was his first practice. I don’t remember him saying anything about two weeks. Like everything else it’s day to day and they go from there.
He said it’s going to take a second..
So as expected no trades for the Dolphins.
I didn’t really expect any. We don’t need to gather draft picks because we need 15 more players, we need like 4-5 who make an impact in some way. Another pass rusher, a LB who covers a lot of ground and can tackle, more competition in the secondary, a consistent TE. I believe that would make a big difference in improving the team. That would allow guys who are more suited for STs and as backups to play those roles. That’s how you get deep.
I am conditioned to believe this team will lose.

You’re not going to believe this… but the #Jets are planning to release RB Knile Davis (again) as they finalize a deal for RB CJ Spiller.
Right back to KC
The team worked out Jonas Gray again today. Knile Davis was just signed by the Jets and is going to be released to make room for CJ Spiller. Davis would be a good addition to the Phins rb’s and be able to spell Ajayi on a few carries.
I say sign him
Tim
From before, regarding Earl Mitchell . . . . He’s not eligible to return until the SD game, which is in 2 weeks
Oh okay then that reports makes sense.
Will X. Howard be back this week?
Will Culiver be activated this week?
Definitely no on X, and Culliver won’t play this week either
X probably won’t be back for another couple of weeks from what I read today.
Thanks. That sucks.
Agreed, he showed promise from day one.
I can understand why they’re working out Gray. It’s not because we’re not happy with what we have, but who can carry the rock if something happened to Ajayi? I’m not convinced any of our guys can carry that load.
Well I would probably work Drake in as a priority this week
He might be able to carry the ball 20+ times down the road
I wouldn’t rely on it now but I would work him in – build him up a little
Ajayi – Drake – Williams is a good 3 deep set

I don’t understand the protocol
But I assume that he can be cleared up to the day before the game
If he stops drooling there’s a good chance he can play. Still needs a bib as of now.
I believe Sims practiced on a limited basis today. May not be ready against the Jets though.

_________________
well, when you look at it, it’s not. Ajayi is the only guy who can carry the rock consistently. Williams is a great asset as a 3rd down back and can run it hard a couple of times a game for us but Drake is truly an unknown factor at this time and we really don’t know what the coaches think of the progress he’s made.
When Foster was out with his injuries he really didn’t see much action and when he got the chance he drops a pass in the flat.
Up until Foster announcing his retirement it really appeared like they were waiting for him to come back and add something to the offense. So, we were going with two feature backs in some form and Williams as the third down guy. I really don’t know what they have in mind with Drake other than maybe trying to work him in slowly and see what they had. To this point, it hasn’t worked out too well.
I guess what I’m getting at is Drake has carried the ball a total of 15x in 4 games and zero in the last two. So, what’s the deal? Ajayi had the hot hand but why didn’t they work in Drake as well, especially the way the offensive line was blocking?
Foster opens up an opp for Drake.
The opportunity was there when Foster was injured and Drake didn’t carry the ball once in the past 2 weeks. He needs to step up and start making a contribution.
I want to believe we’re going to look good against the Jest, get another win, and start to make some noise. Unfortunately, roller coasters don’t continue in the same direction for very long, so I expect a hard right ahead.
Down 13-9 late 4th quarter. LOL

Can’t believe we’re going to blow this game or be down in the 4th. Too many things in our favor like the Jets playing their final game in a four game road trip and us coming off a bye has to work in our favor but also the fact that our coaching staff seems to have the answer the previous staff didn’t have.
In addition, the Jets run game isn’t what it was when we played them in the past so I’m not concerned about them running the ball against us as much as I was when we played them before.
We’ve got a chance to make a dent here and I don’t think there’s going to be a letdown because I don’t think the coaches nor the players are going to let it happen. New attitude.
So, put me down for 30-13
True, if we want to be a playoff team this is a win we have to have. We have to start piling up wins. Enough with win one lose one start winning 5 or 6 in a row. When’s the last time we did that.
And Lou I’m the one who wanted us to get Telvin. He’s been s favorite of mine since his draft.
TO ME, the most interesting aspect of the upcoming game against the Jets is Ajayi’s attempt to be the FIRST RUNNING BACK IN NFL HISTORY TO TOP 200 YARDS RUSHING IN 3 CONSECUTIVE GAMES!! – – Don’t think Gase will force this issue. But if Ajayi has a couple of 25-30 yard gainers in the first quarter, it’s GAME ON!! —Personally, WINNING THE GAME is far more important than the record. If we pass for 300 and run for 125 (and WIN THE GAME) I’ll be VERY HAPPY! Traditionally, it’s been hard for Miami to pile up running yards on the Jets. So I’m certainly NOT expecting Ajayi to get 200+. BUT IT SURE WOULD BE GREAT IF HE DID!!

GETTING UP AROUND 4:00 AM tomorrow to catch the first flight to Baltimore. TALK to you guys on Sunday. GOOO FINS!!

Agree 100% with you on our 3 RB’s. I like what they all bring to the table, but if Ajayi goes down, neither Drake or Wiliams strikes me as the type of guy who can do anything even close to what Ajayi does. That’s why their looking at Gray, and maybe some other guys too.
Send in your questions please!

I am not so confident about this coming game. I think it is a bad match up and I am not convinced that our 2 game turn around is a permanent thing. I am not saying we can’t win this game. We certainly have the ability too but it is far from a guarantee
The jests have been pretty good against the run
They held the Browns to under 70 yards rushing last week
So that is not ideal in terms of matchup for us
On the other hand their secondary has not been very good
Revis is a huge disappointment this season – he is barely even making an effort
I’m not sure the formula we have relied on in the last 2 games will work to get the win
we may have to attack in the air a lot more
The big question I have in the game is how does Fitpatrick play
He’s been horrible as a whole this year
but you know he is the kinda of player that can pulla good game out of his ass
especially against a division foe
but if its 6 INT Fitpatrick
I like our chances….lol
Fitz always seems to play his best against us. He has killed us so many times going back to his days with the Bills
I agree. I have this feeling that we lose this game. We better have a way to stop their run and cover marshall.
Yep Pig — Revis has just been another CB this year. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini:
“Believe me, there is no great pleasure in criticizing an all-time great, but Revis, 31 going on 35, has slipped significantly. His performance Sunday was an eye-opener. He was targeted 16 times. Back in the day, Revis wouldn’t have been targeted 16 times in a month, but there he was against the lowly Cleveland Browns, getting picked on by a journeyman quarterback (Josh McCown) and a wide receiver (Terrelle Pryor) who began the season with two career catches.”
Revis even told one reporter, “My body’s breaking down.”
I don’t like to underestimate Revis. He has lost a step but still has great ball skills and instincts. I would like to see if we can isolate him on Stills and see if we can exploit his advantage in speed
You still have to respect him for sure, but Revis is getting paid $17 mil this year. Doesn’t sound like he is earning all of it.

It’s a division game, on a hot streak, opponent is struggling, renewed optimism for the Phins season — typically the Phins shit the bed in this situation. I hope I’m proven wrong.
I’m not over confident, but I think this is a game we can and should win at home. Unless you think the last 2 games were a mirage, we should be in this game with a good chance to win it. I actually think even if we can’t run as well as we have, and odds are pretty good we won’t rush for 200, but if we can keep them honest with the run, I think we can make some plays through the air and make them pay.
We’ve been using quick passes effectively to set up the run the past couple games. I look for us to continue to do that. I don’t think we can just come out and slam the ball at them in the running game and expect to be successful. We need to back them off a little and then exploit the gaps in the running game. Our G-C-G combination will be tested. I hope Bushrod keeps trending in a positive direction.
I was kind of thinking about Revis myself, not about him breaking down but if he has Stills, who has Parker?
Could be a big day for Landry and I hope we have some healthy TE’s

Sorry man, it’s supposed to be MIA 28 – NYJ 16. I know for sure though since you’ve changed it a few times, that’s the score that will happen, but I have to go with my original pick
Who left the door open?
DOLPHINS (3-4) vs JETS (3-5) Season on the line!

Jets are getting ass raped on Sunday
Suh’s Fins – 42
Stej – 10
Playoffs we want playoffs Mr Suh
Take us
They might get their sorry ass shut out.
I’m so confident that the Dolphins will be excellent this Sunday that I put my money where my mouth is. I have Ryan Tannehill going, Jay Ajayi, Jarvis Landry, and the Dolphins DEF/ST
Nice!
You did the right thing
Ask Mike
Does the Bi Week Bi Babe have enough legs to make it another year?
Of course – She’s in fantastic shape, unless you meant is she pretty enough to last the year. We’d have to consult the LGBTQ contingency for that
No I meant do the folks want more?
Seems Herd was on board this year but as a whole should it continue?
I started DeVante Parker this week. I just talked to my friend and a guy in our FFL and we’re playing each other this week – I said I think Parker is a good play this week against the Jets pass defense and he said I agree.
It would not surprise me to see us try and get Landry, Stills and Parker on Revis. He does not run that well anymore. The rest of the secondary is vulnerable too.
We might see a 275+ pass/100+ rush ratio this week.
Skrine was already having his issues and he got hurt in the last game and didn’t practice today. Not sure if he’ll even play on Sunday but I hope he does so we can give him a toasted jock strap
More bi babes please
I am a bad man
Thank you

Agree 100% with you on our 3 RB’s. I like what they all bring to the table, but if Ajayi goes down, neither Drake or Wiliams strikes me as the type of guy who can do anything even close to what Ajayi does. That’s why their looking at Gray, and maybe some other guys too.

Where Drake is concerned I don’t think he’s a feature back and don’t know if he can ever become a feature back. I don’t know if his body can take that kind of punishment. He’s a good change of pace back and that’s not a bad thing
If some of us compare him to Jamaal Charles and we do, he probably can’t handle the #1 workload.
That said, we can’t keep knocking off starters with what ifs. No team replaces their best players with equals.
He’s Reggie Bush when Reggie entered the league
Throw that mofo some passes and get him returning kicks.
Drake is an excellent kick returner

Ken your an easy mark but fuck it I’ll take your approval, lol
