Alien Combine Review

Ah….Earth…your time has come….

wedgefiles

I’ve collected enough data to finally end your time in this universe.  The Alpha Alien is going to give me a promotion for this.  I have to admit…I’m going to miss your football.

wedgetank

But I had my fun in 2016 with the Dolphins making the playoffs…So it’s not going to get much better…and if it doesn’t get much better, well then…Earth must die…

targeterath

I have you in my sights now….

But wait…what’s this?

combineontv

Oh….it’s the NFL combine…maybe I should put a hold on the destruction of Earth for just a little…

Look at all these great athletes…I wonder if they might help the Dolphins take down the Cheatriots…hmmm

rossisaitacombine

Man I enjoyed watching the first couple of days of the combine.

Isaac Asiata, the Utah OG prospect was the op performer in the bench press with 35 reps.

And John Ross – he could have had an Island if he was wearing the right shoes.  He ran an impressive 4.22 in the 40 breaking Chris Johnson’s record.  As it turns out Ross ended up with a Nike shoe contract instead of an island.

kizercook

There were also some unimpressive performances.  The QBs weren’t particularly impressive.  Deshone Kizer’s lack of accuracy was particularly notable.  I’m sure a team will take him early – but he may not be ready as a rookie.

And Dalvin Cook, who’s a great athlete and will probably be a great RB in this league, had somewhat pedestrian numbers.  But trust me – he will be a great RB irrespective of a modest combine.

but who cares…

If you are like this alien you were most excited about Sunday

That’s when the Linebackers and Defensive Line ran their drills

garrettcombine

The Godafther Garrett

First off I think we can settle who will be the #1 Overall pick.  It looks like Texas A&M Myles Garret solidified the belief that he will be the #1 overall pick on Sunday.

He did 33 reps on the bench press on Saturday, 2nd among defensive lineman.  But He didn’t stop there.  He ran a 4.64 40 yard dash, jumped 41 inches in the vertical jump, and 10 feet 8 inches on the broad jump.

So its safe to say, the Dolphins don’t have a shot at Garrett.  But you already knew that.

NFL: Combine

Reddick makes Lou smile

What you may not have known is that another player within reach of #22 proved himself to be a great athlete, despite going to a smaller school (Temple) not known as a powerhouse.

Hassan Reddick has had a great offseason.  First he turned heads at the Senior Bowl, then at the combine:  He ran an impressive 4.52 40 and leaped over 11 feet in the broad jump.  The only problem with Reddick’s absurd numbers are the fact that it might push him to go a little earlier than #22….the good news:  There are other prospects.

tjwatt-combine

T.J. Watt Runs!

For example TJ Watt.  You already know about the Watt family.  They are great athletes.  The youngest Watt looks like he will be a very good player in the NFL for a long time.

Watt ran a sub 4.70 40, leaped an impressive 37 inches and benched 21 reps.  Watt also looked impressive in general in the linebacker drills.

If you ask this alien, his less coveted Badger teammate, Vince Biegel also looked pretty good.

The thing about Watt and Biegel is whether they are right for the Dolphins.  Playing in a 3-4 system in college caused each of them rushing the passer a lot.  Both have shown – they can get in the backfield fast.  But can they drop in coverage?   Well it probably helps

jabrill-pepperscombine

Peppers JUMP!

if you are a pretty good athlete.  I’m pretty sure a lot of 4-3 teams might look at either prospects in either an outside linebacker role or a defensive end role.  But time will tell…

Speaking of positional ambiguity – how bout that Jabril Peppers.

He tested on Sunday with the linebackers and guess what…he is testing again on Monday with the defensive backs.  Peppers appears to be a player who prides himself on proving how good he is.  And you know what Peppers – you proved it to this alien!

mcmillancombine

McMillan talks about proving aliens wrong

Peppers had the fastest 40 time among linebackers.

For a guy who isn’t too familiar with the linebacker drills, he looked pretty good in those drills as well.  But I expected that from Peppers.

What I didn’t expect is Ohio State Linebacker, Raekwon McMillan to be so fast.  His 4.61 40 yard dash was among the fastest of the day.

keith-kelsey-combine

Keith Kelsey runs the 40

There were other impressive players.  Like Keith Kelsey who looked like a linebacker who has refined his skills.

Tennessee linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin looked very good in the drills.  If he can stay healthy, some NFL team might get an excellent MLB.

Anthony Walker, Jr., a pork favorite, who looked fast and fluid and not the slow and overweight player some suspect he has become.

If it weren’t for Peppers you might hear endless squealing about how fast Duke Riley and his 4.58 40 is.

derek-barnett-combine

Derrick Barnett assaults equipment

The combine was so stacked with defensive talent up front that I barely noticed players like Derrick Barnett or Carl Lawson.  But each also looked good.

Legacy players like Bryan Cox, Jr, and Hardy Nickerson, Jr. also made their dad’s proud.

Tyus Bowser, may not be from a powerhouse conference,  but the Houston Cougar looked like one of the better athletes on the field/track.  Smaller school guys like Connor Harris were able to show their skills and solidify a day 3 pick.

Please Dolphins…..Please Draft some of these defensive players.

The fate of your planet may depend on it…

  1. Nice write-up Piggy but people need to learn to temper their excitement over guys running around in their shorts. Some guys tested better than expected based on their tape. Some guys didn’t test as well and their tape is really good and some guys basically confirmed what their tape said about them. But, the tape doesn’t lie.

  2. If the Eagles were willing to do it would you take a Herschel Walker-type deal for Jarvis Landry?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Why would the Eagles do that, when they can get the guy they want now in FA, w/o surrendering picks?

      • depends on the value a team places on a player they really want vs signing someone in FA they don’t like nearly as much. there’s not a wr in FA you can compare to Landry.

If Eagles were willing to give up their ’17 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Landry I’d do that deal in a heartbeat. Not saying it would happen but you couldn’t turn that down. Some fans heads are exploding over that scenario right now. How could you say no to that?

FYI: asking because a Philly beat writer said he heard Landry could be on trade block and Stills re-signed.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m all in. Landry is great, and surely plays better than just his skillset, but he doesn’t score much and is limited.

Great job Piggy! The combine rocks, no matter what anyone says!

  4. Some players, a lot for that matter, are looking at the Combine as the be all and end all in their quest to be picked in the draft and improve their draft status but Haason Reddick did more to improve his status by playing in the Senior Bowl than any one player did yesterday running around in their shorts.

The combine is never the end all be all, but if Haason Reddick ran a 4.8, put up 15 reps, did a 31″ vertical and did poorly in the drills, that wouldn’t have helped him, despite what he did at the senior bowl. It ALL counts.

Awesome by the Pig……and great to hear how stacked this draft is on defense. We thought we were going that way last year, but maybe this can become the all D draft, least in the first three rounds.

Two starting Gs in FA and we can make that happen. And yes that includes Stills going elsewhere. Do that and a S (got the Peppers crush too), DE and LB or DT in the first three sounds mighty good.

Obi was pretty highly touted coming into today

If you consider Peppers a safety
the safety class is very good

    Hooker
    Adams
    Peppers
    Budda Baker
    Obi
    Justin Evans
    Marcus Williams

    That is my rough ranking
I haven’t seen a lot of these guys – I’ve been watching LBs most of my time…lol

but the idea that Baker, Obi or Evans might be available after day 1 is nice

  23. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Its also cool that his name is Obi
If he targets with his helmet, he can go to the refs afterword, waive his hand in their face and say “You did not see an illegal hit on that play”

  24. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mayock had some interesting commentary on how the Pats use matchup players based on the opponent week to week. One week a guy is active to matchup on the opponent’s bigger players, the next he might be inactive against an opponent’s smaller quicker players and another guy is active to matchup against them. He mentioned LB Kyle Van Noy and DB Eric Rowe as two examples.

It would be great if we could get to that point some day.

Legal tampering for NFL FA starts tomorrow. That’s when the rumors of who’s going after who will really heat up. Let the fun begin. 🙂

    • D's avatar D says:

They can “talk” but they cant negotiate, but thats about the time that the shit with Suh really started flying around, so early so, that we got investigated for it.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Exactly but we did it right. The rumors will heat up for sure. Teams already know what players are looking for. Just no definitive contract details.

  28. D's avatar D says:

Obi Melifonwu made himself a lot of money today. He topped out most every category. I had hoped he could be a target for us in a 3rdish round, felt like he would at least push himself up to a second round grade, but would have been OK with taking him in the 2nd if we lost out on some of the better OL, LB, or DE’s, and there wasnt as much value to be had there, but he is really out of our range now. He might be a freakin top 10 now.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Someone’s gotta fall to us. There are a lot of prospects who could go top 10, top 15 etc. I’m hearing some of the QBs might go 1st rd now too.

      • D's avatar D says:

I mean more of a he moved out of our range pick wise. I dont think that we would pick a safety in the first, but i guess that could really still be a possibility considering the news about Isa, and the fact that Jones is both coming off significant injury and coming up for contract. It might be a lot higher than we could have anticipated. I also think he could, and likely will be, a target for someone with a much higher draft position than us.

As far as price range, any rookie, even a very top round selection is a cheap alternative to get great talent, so i think maybe the “priced himself out” was really just a bad choice of words where i really mean, put himself in a range outside what we can do without trading up, therefore the draft cost of moving up or taking him at 22 might not match the value.

    • D's avatar D says:

Melifonwu looked great, its a damn shame he worked himself out of our range. Great for him and the money he will make, bad for us.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well there’s a rookie 1st rd cap. I guess you’re saying he went from 3rd or 2nd rd money to 1st rd money?

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Might not be him, but I would be just fine if we set up beforehand that our only true need is a safety in the first or second…..or heck even third. Any guy like that should be starter level, and Thomas and Aikens aren’t chump change. Plus — all we have on ISa are reports right now.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Maybe a guy like Jordan Lucas steps up and surprises.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And that is part of what none of us know, they might have a guy like Lucas with a serious rising bullet on him. That would change what there strategy would be. Plus….there are always cuts and trades after the draft.

  31. D's avatar D says:

Melifonwu moving up helps us some but i dont think in the long run we were really in a position where we were so desperate for a specific guy that we need others to move up so they would move down. Staying put or even trading back is preferable this year when there is so much depth of talent. I kinda prefer to stay put this year, but i could really see acquiring more picks in the first 4 rounds as a way to get more spots filled with cheaper talent.

I do think that there will be a few QB’s that likely either go first round, ahead of our pick or second round ahead of our second round pick. I dont think any of the QB are so stand out this year that many teams will reach, even with need (outside maybe SF), but they are going to be a few that might get their groom a next year starter guy this year, so they will feel pressure to not let that guy slip away from them.

I see Kizer, Watson, and probably Trubisky as guys who likely go in the first but at least one of them will be after our pick. Kayaa, Webb, and Mahomes, probably will go in the second before we pick, amybe one of them after we pick.

Josh Dobbs looked really good at the Combine, his throws were perfect, and his athletic scores were good, i think though he still remains a deeper draft selection but i think he might have worked himself out of the UDFA talk.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Trading back could be something we do if there are still plenty of guys on the board who we have a high grade on and there is a team really high on someone. Even if it’s for a 3rd or a 4th.

  32. D's avatar D says:

Justin Evans is actually from over near where i live in Mississippi. He is from Wiggins which is about 20-30minutes away. He was an amazing HS athlete too, like the kind where you watch them and you are like they just need to let you start playing with College kids right now because your in a class all your own here.

Thats said, taking your list Piggy id order them this way.
    Adams
    Hooker
    Melifonwu
    Peppers
    Budda Baker
    Justin Evans
    Marcus Williams

Adams is the most polished. I dont care that his Combine stats arent as good as some of the others, he has amazing instincts and hybrid run support/coverage skills. He is easily the top. Hooker is really solid too but i dont see him really that close to Adams. He an Melifonwu are really close to one another in my opinion, though that opinion for me is fairly new because i didnt think Melifonwu’s ceiling was as high as it apparently is with the things he showed at Combine.

Peppers is a Safety, i agree with him in that respect, however, i dont think he is an elite one, and i think he has limitations that will lower his ceiling at the safety position. I dont think he will ever be as good in coverage as the 3 above him. He should be a great box safety though, with decent enough coverage skills. Not a liability in coverage, just not a guy that will excel in it. I know you really like him, but i was almost tempted to list him below Baker and Evans too, and if it wasn’t for some of the versatility perks i think come with him, i would have.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Great thoughts on them…..but from this homer’s standpoint seems even your discussion shows this is one deep safety class. And we need one, even if we pick up a serviceable guy in FA or turns out Isa can play.

    • D's avatar D says:

I agree there is no reason to ll of a sudden think well of a guy who did amazing at Combine, to me it just enhances what you have already seen on film. My example with Melifonwu is that i already saw a good if not great player, i was just unsure of his ceiling, because his tape wasnt against the best of the best, etc so its hard to get a good judgement on him. When you see though he tops out every one of the athletic skills assessments, and he looks fluid in the drills at combine, you realize the guy not only looks good on tape but there is plenty to work with and enhance, so he has a good bit better he can get. That definately upped my feelings on him as a prospect, but if he hadnt had the film already, i wouldnt be ooooh and ahhhhhing, i would probably be more like well i feel a little bit better about the risk reward of taking him later.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Prospects do get better in time. Melifonwu is not lacking in athleticism that’s for sure.

      • Right, and if you’re a GM taking a look at him in a certain round all that performance does is solidify your liking him in that round but doesn’t necessarily push him up a round for you.

You’re looking to see what you’ve got to work with other than what you saw on his tape and if he tests well then you can say you have something you can build on. If all that was there is what you saw on tape you can look at it and say he’s not going to develop much once he’s on the team. But, a good Combine performance means you CAN develop him further than what you saw.

Too many are NOT putting these performances in to their proper perspective.

    _____________________
It all counts but it’s weighted. Tape don’t lie; can’t emphasize that enough. If a guy is constantly showing up on the tape but doesn’t test well you go back and look at the tape and if the tape tells you he’s a good football player you trust what you see on tape.

I’m not saying the Combine doesn’t matter at all but it doesn’t matter nearly as much as some people like to think it does. If a guy tests really well at the Combine but his tape shows differently he’s not taking a huge jump just because he can run around in his shorts. Sorry.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well Reddick did really well at the combine. Has pass rush skills and the size, athletic ability and speed to play OLB in a 4-3. I think he’d be a good fit for us.

      • I think he’s an excellent fit for us and if he was our 1st rd pick I wouldn’t be disappointed. Tak, Barnett, Taco, Reddick, Lamp. I can’t argue with any number of picks. Would rather defense and LB and d-line would my first preference but there’s a few players I’d be okay with us taking.

  34. 49ers are releasing WR Torrey Smith.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He could be a short-term replacement for Stills. He can fly! He was on a bad team in SF.

      • I liked Smith in the draft. Had him as one of my picks for our team but I’ve moved on. If we don’t re-sign Stills I believe our modus operandi will be ball control offense with long, sustained drives with guys who can get open short like Landry and Carroo and add another like a Switzer or Trent Taylor and get yac after the catch.

Keep the chains moving. Eliminate as may of those 3 and outs as we can in order to score more points and keep our defense off the field. high percentage passes and pick and choose when to go deeper.

  35. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Lou, all the combine is an athletic and character test. Teams want to see how these guys are built, how they move and who they are as people and football players. They always go back to the tape and football production and competition. But they do match up all the workouts and tape to put a grade on them. So when Mike said “it all counts”, he’s right, it does.

    • yes, it all counts but people need to temper their excitement when it comes to the Combine performances. there’s not as much value placed on them as some think there is.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It moves guys around marginally. What will drop guys down is a bad attitude where teams won’t really want to deal with it at least at the projected round they were slotted. That could knock a guy from a 3rd or 4th to the 6th or off some teams’ boards. A lot of stuff like that goes on too.

  36. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The combine is never the end all be all. Seems every year someone says this. I think it’s been Mike every year😁 Who ever said it was? Even the teams that draft the workout warriors won’t say it.

  37. I’ll give you a couple examples. TJ Watt is first. Scouts aren’t looking at him as anything great. They think he could be a good, solid player for a team in a 3-4 but they don’t think he can make the switch to a 4-3. They don’t think he’s an immediate starter and they think he’s still raw and needs to be developed.

His performance at the Combine was okay and it confirmed what they thought of him.

next I Jordan Willis. When you watch his tape his chance of direction and his pursuit aren’t there. He’s had any number of rb’s run around the edge and he couldn’t get there to stop them. He’s not shown much in the way of pass rush moves over his career and he’s a straight line speed guy.

But, he comes to the Combine and he looks better in those movement drills than he does on tape. Does it help him? Yeah, it’s going to help him with some. However, when you go back and turn on the tape and you don’t see it and think about all the time he had to get ready for the Combine you have to question if those skills were always there or if you’re looking at a workout warrior.

There’s too much to lose when you’re looking at these prospects and you can’t leave anything to chance. Most of all you want to see a guy do it every week on the football field. That’s what matters most because on Sunday’s in the NFL guys aren’t competing in the broad jump, 3 cone and vertical leap.

  38. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Lou, I have no idea but Torrey Smith might be entering that point in his career where he looks for the right fit with a team and a chance to prove himself again on a one year, maybe two year deal for $2-3M per.

    • You’re definitely right that he was with a bad team and at just 28 yrs old I don’t know if that’s going to happen. I can see him wanting to try and get as much of the Benjamin’s as possible before he gets to that point where he’ll be willing to take the 1 or 2 yr show me deals.

His agent is going to tell everyone, “Torrey is still the same player. You all know what the situation was in SF”.

  39. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We could sign a guard in FA then in the draft target a Dorian Johnson and complete the projected starting 5. Then have Bushrod, Urbik, Steen and Young as depth.

    • I just ate and you’re trying to make me throw up with that last part. yuk.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Why? There is versatility there. It’s not easy to add two new starting guards and then ask for superior depth with needs at other positions. The team re-signed Young, Urbik is on the books for another year, Steen is a cheap ERFA who was injured down the stretch and Bushrod has said he’d like to be back. Or someone else could be in the mix too. Be realistic! LOL

  40. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I think I heard Polian say that the actual athletic performances at the combine are about 3% of the overall evaluation of a player, for what it’s worth.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think what it does is confirm what they saw on tape, or show them they’re better or worse athletes. I highly doubt they go through all this for 3%. LOL

I personally would do a low year, moderate contract on a vet like DeSean Jackson, or Torrey Smith, etc over a long term big number contract for Stills. I said this the other day when Jackson was brought up. I just dont see making that big of an investment in Stills.

If he comes down on those numbers and would sign for 7-8mil per i think thats a lot more in the range of what we need if we are resigning him long term, they could have tagged him if they really had wanted to kept him and negotiate out a contract. The fact they didnt pretty much says they are going to let him walk if he doesn’t at least meet them half way. He obviously isnt a “we cant lose him” guy, or they would have tagged him.

I don’t agree. If he said they put more into the combine how would that make them look? You guys really need to read between the lines sometimes 😛

Simple logic tells us they put more into it than that. For one, if they only weighed it 3% no head coach or GM would be there.

I don’t get why we drafted carroo (and give up 2 picks for him from this years draft) knowing that we needed to replace stills this year and carroo can’t be the replacement. Pretty dumb move IMO.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

They obviously loved the player, but they didn’t get through to him last season. They have to make it a priority to get that kid playing up to his potential

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

who is he gonna replace? Unless we run 4 wide sets he’s not gonna see the field. Just like he didn’t last year.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

if we re-sign stills it makes me question the pick a little

but if we don’t I think we are going to want Carroo

They are different types of WRs
but I do not agree with the idea that you have to replace a guy with the copy of the same guy
there are a lot of ways to get production

I like the speed Stills offers but we may not need to prioritize speed in our offense

If we lose Still I would spend a 5th rounder on a speed WR to slowly bring along

in terms of Carroo’s production, its not like he got on the file and failed. We were so good at the top of the depth chart at WR he didn’t see the field.I suspect that will happen again if we re-sign stills. If we do that I think maybe we should look to trade carroo

I really think his lack of production last year while playing behind 3 pretty good receivers is irrelevant to his value

  67. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Chargers released DJ Fluker

  68. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Boulder

Honestly, is it that crazy having Carroo on the outside, and Parker replacing Stills as the flanker? I think that can work nicely. If you think of Carroo as an Anquan Boldin type, he makes sense there.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I just don’t think Carroo has the speed to run the 9 route and take the top off defense. We need speed at one of the positions or it’ll affect the whole offense. that’s why still is in high demand right now.

If Carroo could replace stills we would have seen him more last year. When we drafted Carroo I thought that was the plan. Him replacing stills this year. I just don’t see it. If stills leaves we’ll have to either draft a speedy guy or get one in FA.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

we don’t have to replace Stills
we have to make sure our WR can do it all…including stretch the defense

I’m not sure the guys on our roster now can’t do it
but elevating Carroo to #4, using Grant in the passing game, adding a seem route TE, and adding a speedy WR late in the draft – will probably achieve that

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Carroo, Parker and Landry are pretty versatile

of the group of wrs we have the only one with less versatility is Stills
I would probably try to bring another speedy wr in if stills in gone
but its not like the offense will come apart without it
The next 3 guys up are versatile
I actually want to see Parker go deep a lot more than he did last year

I didn’t get so much of the slants to him

  69. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Boulder

He probably doesn’t, but Parker does. That’s what I was saying.

  70. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    For reference

    Carroo ran a 4.5 40
    Parker ran a 4.45
    Stills ran a 4.38
    Landry ran a 4.77 (injured)

rookie KD Cannon ran a 4.41
If its that deep speed you seek to replace, after ross this year there weren’t really a lot of great 40 times – but some one like Cannon might be available in the 4th round or 5th round. Stills was a 5th rounder as I recall

Those kind of one dimensional speed threats are often available after day 2

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Yep — based on how Stills was used last year seems you only need enough speed to run a CB out of the play long and be enough of a threat to get the deep safety to check out what is happening on that side. And now that same safety is going to be checking out what Thomas is doing as well on 3rd downs….not like he had his eye on Sims.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I agree it can be a later pick. But we do need stills speed replaced. There is a reason Gase wants stills back and wanted him in chicago as well. He likes the player.

  71. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If we re-sign Stills it shows that Carroo had nothing to do with replacing him but that we wanted another talented WR. You need at least 4.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think any of us think Carroo will do what Stills did, but there are ways of replacing his production, without having Carroo do what Stills did.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Parker has vertical ability. I think Gase wants to build an offense that is very difficult to deal with. Wave upon wave of playmakers. Carroo wasn’t up to speed as a rookie, that’s all.

  72. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Steve,
He said the combine is about 10% of a team’s evaluation. The actual physical drills are about 3% and the medical/interviews is about 7%. You can believe him or not. He’s never struck me as a liar. Why would GM’s not be there? They’re gathering every single bit of info they can…that’s their job. It’s not that big of a deal. I was just throwing out his comments.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      That makes more sense.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy – First off, that could have been just Polian’s way of doing things (BTW, I love Polian, he’s the best on NFL radio IMO), but the game has changed a lot since he’s been a GM, and I think the way they do things has too. There are more specialized players that are hybrid players, like Jabrill Peppers for example, and you want to see how they interview and perform so you get a better idea of how you can use them.

  73. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I wouldn’t want to trade for him personally, or he they do, Maxwell would be headed somewhere else pretty soon afterwards. I guess it could be possible they might be swapping Maxwell for Johnson, but i wouldn’t want both of them. Too much money tied up in the CB’s.
