Yessir! Back to Football!
Man, I’d much rather hear back to football than back to school. Still to this day, hearing back to school depresses me, and I’ve been out of school for a very long time, thousands of years. On the other hand, MIAMI DOLPHINS FOOTBALL is BACK!!! Training camp is ON!
This training camp should really be an interesting one to watch. There are a few important positions up for grabs, and one that just cropped up due to Koa Misi being placed on IR. Before Misi was even placed on IR, an intriguing battle was to take place on the O-line, presumably at LG, with Laremy Tunsil now the LT, Pouncey possibly ready to return to C, Jermon Bushrod set to play RG, and Ju’Wuan James set at RT. Who will win the LG spot? Ted Larsen, Anthony Steen, Kraig Urbik, OR, the fan favorite rookie 5th RD pick Isaac Asiata?
The other important battle will be between Neville Hewitt and rookie 2nd RD pick Raekwon McMillan at OLB. This is one I can’t wait to see. CB is another highly contested area of competition, especially now that we’ve added veteran CB Alterraun Verner, who is likely going to give nickel corner Bobby McCain his moneys worth. Besides the nickel corner, at this point, I still think there is competition for starting spots at CB, between likely favorite and incumbent Byron Maxwell, 2nd year Xavien Howard, Tony Lippett, and even rookie 2nd RD pick Cordrea Tankersley. We haven’t had this kind of depth at CB, well, in a long time.
Defensive tackle should be fun to watch, although we know Ndumakong Suh and Jordan Phillips will be the starters, the depth will definitely be up for grabs, with newly acquired Lawrence Okoye, and rookie draftees Davon Godchaux (RD5) and Vincent Taylor (RD6), as well as possibly Julius Warmsley, who may be working out at DE. Will there be a late veteran pickup, or do we go with youngins?
Another aspect that really has me interested is the other safety spot, meaning not Reshad Jones’ spot. Yes, Jones tweaked sumpin’ the other day, but I’m thinking he’ll be fine, but what of Nate Allen and suspended for 8 games T.J. McDonald? Do we get any competition there, knowing McDonald must miss the first 8 games? If not, can Nate Allen return to the promise he showed early in his career with Philadelphia?
Many questions, and of course, will OC Mike Pouncey be healthy enough to participate in TC, and if so, does he make it through healthy enough to play this season? Does Devante Parker finally emerge as a premier receiver? Does star Jarvis Landry sign a big contract before the season? Does RB Kenyan Drake really share carries with Jay Ajayi, or is he just going to spell him? Is Ryan Tannehill really 100%, and if so, does he ascend to the upper echelon of QB’s, surrounded by significant talent this season on offense, easily our best offensive roster in quite some time. Does Julius Thomas make us forget about Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims, and maybe become Randy McMichael or Keith Jackson or better for us?
Some of these questions will be answered in training camp, others will continue through the preseason and possibly even the beginning of the season, while others will finally be answered by seasons end. Looking forward to it all!
Go DOLPHINS!! Zero in!

Steve CCNV should be at the Fest in October. Quit the bullshit and show up! LOL

My favorite version is Buddy Guy and Tracy Chapman.
This one of course is great, digging it as I type.
Yessir! That’s a good rendition right there!
Son,
Don’t know what it is about this song… but I LOVE it. Perhaps it’s because the movie “The Stand” (by Stephen King) opened with this song, but there’s a certain ‘magic’ about it…
It’s creepy like Stephen King, lol
No doubt! LOL
I’m a HUGE fan of Phil Collins and Genesis. This version of “Land Of Confusion” by Disturbed is outstanding, IMO!
That’s good, never heard it before.
Their version I mean.
Their message is absolutely relevant today… the NWO is taking over and it’s time to take back our country from them.

How’s Piggy doing? I haven’t seen him lately. I saw 2 iguana’s the last 2 days. They are coming back form the cold snap several years ago that killed most of them. One is a 4 a footer and the other is a smaller one about 2 ft. We had a cold snap about 7-8 yrs ago and killed most of them. Just in my yard I had 33 dead ones. My dogs don’t even care about them and leave them alone. The kids used to feed them lettuce and watch them eat it. They love lettuce.
here’s a story about a dog in seattle that takes local bus every day to dog park without its owner and has become a internet superstar.

The dog has its own webpage.
ESPN has a story about Ajayi’s being left behind for the Seattle game being the catalyst for his breakout season. The story is the epitome of a writer putting words into Ajayi’s mouth, and it happens all the time. Big difference between him just coming out and saying it vs being asked
All-Terrain with a nice diving INT. Good traction is key!
Absolutely
McCain might be fighting for a roster spot. Competition makes us all better.
You don’t mean the McCain that yelled at everyone in the Senate for doing nothing and then voted to be sure nothing was done you mean Bobby
Tannehill also picked by Kiko. One reporter (Tanneshill) says ball was tipped, others say terrible pass thrown into double coverage.
So much for RTs shot at being elite this year.
Over before it even started
Yeah, yeah him to, even though he is the greatest thing since sliced…
On snow and ice and in rain or on turf All-Terrain keeps his grip
Gase said wearing uppers vs full pads is an on the fly decision. This is why he’s a great coach, nothing is set in stone, there’s just guidelines.
Know here is something I don’t know since never played……can you still tackle and block in shells or is more like doing it at half speed or something?
Close to the same, Gase likes uppers, because they don’t go to the ground as much, where most practice injuries occur.
Competition is always good, especially in football, because these guys drop like flies, so you better have good depth.
Joe Schad’s quick takes from what Gase said after practice
————————————–
• Isaiah Ford has a swollen knee. He should know more tonight.
• Mike Pouncey needs to be held back because he’ll find a way to sneak extra work in. Pouncey is a huge calming influence over the entire offense.
• The underneath coverage is a lot tighter this season, with Lawrence Timmons and Kiko Alonso on the field at linebacker.
• Byron Maxwell thinks he’s the best corner in the NFL. Gase loves his ability to work on his weaknesses in practice and desire to be the best. Maxwell was trying to figure out how to fit in last year and adjust to scheme.
• DeVante Parker is in “phenomenal” shape and understands leverages much better this season.
• The University of Davie T-Shirts are in part because they operate like a college program. There is a college atmosphere. There is a closeness in the program.
• Cordrea Tankersley has about 20 people coming at him with water and Gatorade.
• The underneath coverage is a lot tighter this season, with Lawrence Timmons and Kiko Alonso on the field at linebacker. Worth it’s wait in gold (see both cheats games last year and even the last 32).
• DeVante Parker is in “phenomenal” shape and understands leverages much better this season. Along with Thomas, if either breaks out our O will be great.
Would be real hard for the btwn the hash tags LB coverage not to improve, but Gase is a straight shooter……and that includes on Parker. He had no problem pointing out what Devante need to improve on….figuring that was his “glad you listened” treat.
Old school, guys in Tanks position, they would’ve let him suffer out there. It’s nice to see the compassion. Some people in the Northeast should try it, and I’m not talking about Mike E 😛
All-Terrain is trail rated for any surface, grass, artificial turf, mud or synthetic turf.
I just want to know, if he’s rated for the cheats surface?
As it is now, YES, but leave it to Beli to apply something slick to make him spin. lol

Miami Dolphins: DeVante Parker in ‘phenomenal shape’ as hype mounts http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2017/07/29/miami-dolphins-devante-parker-in-phenomenal-shape-as-hype-mounts/ …
Truth is, right now, hype is all it is. We have to see this kid perform at a high level for an entire season, because he hasn’t done that yet. Still, good to see he seems poised to do just that.
Why is that the truth? Your perception of the situation isn’t reality. You think they’re just trying to trick us? I’ll wait and see is different than hype, it’s not hype.
Take a look at game #2 the last offensive play, RT throws a perfect pass to Parker in the end zone, but Parker can’t leap to catch it, so instead of tying the game, its a game ending int. If Parker is healthy he makes that catch, and now he’s healthy. I don’t get your reasoning for calling it hype.

Great! I was hoping someone else would sign him.

That’s about all our O-line was getting last year when the injuries hit.. Hopefully it’s different this year with Pouncey healthy, hopefully for all 16 games
LOL, I think that went over Mike E’s head!
😆
Steve
I don’t think anyone is trying to trick us. I’m a show me person. I want to see it. I believe he’s ready to be a great receiver, I just have to see him actually do it.
Ok 😀 since you said it was hype…i always thought hype meant someone was trying to put one over on us.

That absolutely did NOT go over my head, I just elaborated since he threw it out there. I know Aretha sang the song R-E-S-P-E-C-T. silly! I’m OLD, remember!
My bad! I’ve got ya, Brother! I do hope this ’17 O-Line of ours is above and beyond deserving of R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
Meaning… ELITE. Not just “respectful”… but bloody ELITE.
I TRUST that Gase knows enough about Orlando Franklin, having coached him in Denver. If Gase felt we needed him, he’d be here. All good.
It seems that Parker is coming into his own and learning how to be a pro. He’s only 24 and some guys mature quicker than others.

Mike E,
Did you get to see the IT trailer the other night, bud? If so, what did you think?!!
I didn’t see it yet. By the time I got home, I just went straight to the family room to hang with my wife. If I remember, I’ll look at it when I get home from work today. I’m really excited, I just forgot.

Looks like Bobby McCain has a big ‘ol target on his back in camp. “Michael Thomas is getting a look at slot cornerback and he’s loving it. ‘I love playing in the slot; that’s where I was born and raised,’ said Thomas, who played the position at Stanford….Whether Thomas wins a job there or not, his versatility is a big help for Miami.”

anyone watching the pre season game tonight in the stadium? It’s being broadcast internationally….I can’t figure what channel it’s on with roku having 36 football channels. Wife’s company (sams) gave away 6 tickets to vendors. They cost the company 12 k with discount.
It’s on ESPN. Enjoy. Not much of a soccer fan, but know many are. Did you play?
yes, in my early years when I was a young buck mostly optimist for 5-6 years.
What is up FUers? Been a while since I have checked in. Sorry for that. Been busy at work. I had a little health issue but that should be behind me now. On vacation in Punta Cana drinking a beer and catching up on my phins
Hey Ken, glad your health issues are behind you and you’re enjoying your vacation. Funny that you apologized for not checking in. LOL
I do feel bad that I haven’t checked in. I feel like I neglected a whole group of friends
You’re a good man, Ken. We all know that. 🙂
Tell that to my wife and kids some days. lol
Hope it turned out OK……but seems you found a real nice place to recover. Big news is that camp is open and hope springs as always. And heck — maybe this year for better reasons.
I dodged a major bullet. Let’s just say early detection is the key
Sounds like at one point you came out of a doctor visit as happy as Pouncey was after his last one. Good feeling.
True that. Let’s just say there was a lot of stress until last week

So Ken the best news in TC so far is that Parker is in great shape, playing fast and impressing everyone. This could be his breakout season and really change the dynamics of the offense.

It’s getting old. LOL
He’s still ragging on Tanny.
But pretty upbeat about the rest of the team!
The entire team started off 1-4 last year, then they went 9-2 not counting the playoffs. Yes Ryan was also part of that. The team changed. Ryan is also a part of that change. He should be given the opportunity to be a part of something special brewing as well. He’s not 34+ years old and almost done. He just turned 29 a couple of days ago. That’s a prime age for a QB. You’ve seen and learned a lot about how hard it is to win a title.
Go Phins!!!!

but i would like to see him make the 53, as we need 4 RBs, unless we think we have 4 viable TEs. or maybe we keep more LBs?
He’s competing with a 5th DT or a 4th OT. or a pure ST guy like Aikens or Jordan Lucas.
I’m hearing things about Grant, like when he gets the ball in practice the vibe is everyone can’t wait to see what’s going to happen, and he’s been working hard at ball security. I hope he gets the ball on O this year, he’s the ultimate mismatch.
If he could give us one long-gainer per every 2 games on offense, with maybe 2 of those going for TDS and then quality yds plus 2 scores off kick returns, that would be plenty.

Thomas, not Verner, is the nickel with McCain sidelined.
They have to be fair to Thomas who has tried so hard for the team his whole time here. Verner is lurking there however with 5 INTs in 2014.
You’ve got to give special team’s aces the benefit of the doubt, so they’re doing the right thing, even though i dont think hes the betst fit.
Just watched a preview video from football game plan, the idiots have us finishing 3rd AGAIN, and Burke needs to fix a D that faltered down the stretch. Nevermind the bandaids that were used last year, because of injury.
I predict 12-4 1st in AFC East. Beat cheats twice as Brady starts to errode with happy feet. He then convinces belicheat he can play 5 more years, so they let Jimmy Garo Polo walk.
I had seen that as well they have Buffalo ahead of us???
One of my favs MF 13 and Son
Buffalo finishing ahead of us in not as outlandish as some may think. They have improved as well, and if you remember both games against them last year came down to the wire.
I think Buffalo might finish 2nd in the AFC as well, just a game ahead of the patsies*
Not outlandish, but only way they are ahea.d of us is cause of us. But that is over the season, not in a match up with us. But now if the YETs beat us at the Fest…..don’t let me drive home i the interest of public safety.
Haha! Realistically, we need to go 4-2 in the division again this season if the playoffs are in the cards. 2-0 against Puke Green, 1-1 against Buffalo and 1-1 against the Pats.
Agree on both least 4-2 and on the sweep of the Jets. But while nothing like a Pats upset…..our playoff chances might be better off with a BIlls sweep.
Agreed.
Damn this isnt good…
First thing I see upon my return is a valuable guy goes down. With my luck, everyone will be out by September 😦
It seems more precautionary than anything. I didn’t hear much specifically about the injury.
We’ll seen what it is, but least they didn’t send him to the locker room. But then they have been working out Thomas in the slot and signed Verner. Seems after last year, they are thinking depth is good.

Yessir, he was a PLAYER. I acknowledge his quality play over the years and wish him much success after football. AND… I’m glad he’s no longer going to play against us.
I thought he was already gone, after looking at the AFC East’s best Dlines, he wasn’t on the list. We were all pissed on here when he was cut.
Isaac Asiata thinks the heat advantage is real.
————————–
“It’s not easy, which makes it great, It’s a mental toughness deal. It’s nice to come out and challenge yourself like this when it’s hot.”
“Anybody can practice in the cold. Practicing in the cold is easy. I practiced in the cold my whole life. To come out here when it’s so hot and that breath is hot, that’s a mental thing more than anything. It’s nice to work that mental toughness here.”
He began the process of acclimating to this weather over the summer, when he’d go running on the practice field while wearing a hoodie.
“No matter how hot it is, that has to be an advantage for us. We have to embrace it and use it in our favor. It’s something you’ve gotta get used to.”

New. Miami Dolphins offense intent on spreading the ball around
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/armando-salguero/article164447622.html
Mando is on fire with good articles on this camp. Would love to read about Thomas causing havoc…..but maybe they are just testing him and some of the guys on D out.
I’m sure we’ll be hearing about Thomas causing havoc soon enough. I do think we’re just testing our base Offense out, and that includes Thomas as a blocker… which is something Thomas has been working on all offseason.
Thomas blocking, Ajayi on catching passes, Landry in redzone, Grant working inside and outside, Timmons outside in pass coverage, Thomas thrilled about slot work…..can almost see a theme about the greatest way to improve a player is improving on where he is not strong.
It’s simple, if he’s not open don’t throw him the ball, if the D takes him away by double covering him throw it to someone else. Hit the open man whoever it is.
BNNY – You think the Bills can do better than Miami!?! Is that the same Bills that have a new coach (may be the only reason they win more games than last year), the Bills who delayed resigning there QB because they were not sure he is franchise material, the Bills who did not pick up the 5th year option on their #1 WR, the Bills who signed a rookie viewed as a guard to play RT, or the Bills who lost their #1 CB and LB to FA?
Sorry, don’t see it. 6-8 wins at best.
The schedule is the same except for us playing the Ravens, they get the Bengals, and we play the Titans, they play the Colts, that seems to be a wash, but we get to play them twice while they have to play us twice 😛
If we have to worry about what Buffalo does this year the season will be a mess anyways, so no sense in worrying about them.

WISDOM!!! That’s the only way to improve the weakest link in anybody’s game. To become a complete player, one must shore-up their flaws.
Yep — these guys have all been dominant players or they wouldn’t be in the NFL, but they rode into the league on their strengths. Guessing in college that that Thomas didn’t get much work in the power run sets except as the break out option.

We have signed wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp and waived/injured linebacker Lamin Barrow.
Real interesting interview with Carroo. Am sure he had lots else to talk about, but the reporters were focused on his weight. Last year he played at 221, is now at 212 and his goal is to play at 208. That’s a major drop for a wideout. As he explained, “That’s a big factor for me, to continue to lose more and more weight so I can become a more fluid, faster receiver.”
https://phinphanatic.com/2017/07/30/leonte-carroo-talks-camp-tough-wr-competition/
Yeah he talked about that in OTAs. I remember Jerry Rice was 205 when he was drafted and then dropped weight and said the best weight for him when he was in his prime was 189 at 6-2.
You got me to check out Carroo’s combine stats. 6-0 and ran a 4.5 at 211 (wondering if slimmed down for the 40 time). Am guessing he has figured out that he can’t out-height, muscle and athletic NFL dbs like he did with Rutgers. And that being faster and more mobile will create more separation window for him.
That’s exactly it. Most guys slim down for the combine to be quicker. Dion Sims played at 288 for MSU but was 264 at the combine.
caroo and jerry rice in the same conversation. Wait till MikeE see’s this, he might understand why we gave up all those draft picks for 1 guy who is going to be in HOF.
It wasn’t comparing the players. It was commentary on why some WRs prefer to play slimmer than heavier. Who better than Jerry Rice to use as an example of why one would prefer that?
come on you alsdo believe Carroo passes the eyeball test like the dolphins when they gave up all those draft picks for Carroo. He ‘s a sure bet and he meets everyone’s eyeball test for greatness.
It seems like all NFL teams desire a big receiver on their roster and this has been going on for the last 2 decades. Mismatches against smaller db’s maybe?
I haven’t seen enough of him to declare if he was worth the trade or not. But it’s in the past now and the draft picks given up aren’t a big deal – the extra compensation was really just a 2016 6th and 2017 4th. The 3rds were a wash, basically just swaps in different years. Same #86 picks as well.
The NFL covets tall WRs, not heavy, there’s a difference. Like Parker at 6-3 212. He wouldn’t be as effective at say 230.
Lol at Jetssuck busting Tim’s bawls, and it going right over his head 😁
Not over my head, it’s just old. Hey did you watch the preseason game? LOL
It’s cool that the offense and defense are kind of game planning each other like they would make calls in a game. Gase talked about it in one of his pressers.
Re Buffalo: I think they took step back this year. I do not see them finishing ahead of us
Being honest as an NFL fan. If I looked at the Dolphins and Bills from an outside perspective, the Dolphins are the better team on paper.
I don’t think they will either, but some were suggesting that there is no way it can happen. I wouldn’t be shocked if we finished 2nd or they did.

No, that’s not what I said. I said it’s not that outlandish to think that they could. It’s not like we are the Patriots. We aren’t locked into 12-14 wins on an annual basis. we could just as easily finish with 8 wins this season as we could 11 IMO.
Brian, as an optimist I haven’t really put us at anything more than 10-6 if everything goes right the past few years. Well not everything went right last year and we finished 10-6 and made the playoffs. The 2017 team is better. If we don’t have many major (key) injuries, I think we can win the AFC East. I haven’t felt like that in a long time. This is the best roster we’ve had in a long time. It’s not perfect, no team is. But there is plenty of talent on this team to win more games than they lose. How high we go, yet to be determined.
Pats fans look at the Phins like Phins fans look at the Bills like Bills fans look at the Jets. And smart Jets fans are thinking, “man there are gonna be some great QBs at the top of the next draft.”
That’s true. If the Jets are a thorn in our side I’m gonna puke. LOL
I think the Bills are looking to be near the top of the draft near the Jets.
the Vegas over and under is 7.5 games for Miami some betting sites have it at 7, only seven teams lower than that citing the difficult schedule, the lack of regard for this team is head scratching? we just went 10-6 and one would think we have a better team this year, i don’t buy into the strength of schedule as teams vary too much from year to year.
i may mortgage my home and take that bet.
LMAO 😂…..never ever tempt the Gods of fate.
The media controls this. The 7 wins just means that’s how we’re perceived by all fans. They mostly only know what they hear and our beat writers aren’t propping us up, so that’s what gets out to the common fan.
The main reasons I think you can see a big jump from the Bills this year:
A) Trench talent on both sides of the ball can allow them to dictate to opponents.
B) New coaching regime means the league will have to catch-up to what they’re doing
C) They have solid young talent on Defense that will only get better as the year goes on
Sorry not buying it on Buffalo. I think it is a franchise in disarray
Lol Dbolt
Good to read that Carroo was able to take over practice yesterday. Hopefully he has his confidence and strings together multiple solid practices.
Nice thing w/ training camp 4 practices in, there’s been 1 offensive dominated practice & 1 defensive dominated practiced while the other 2 have been pretty even. Usually we’ve seen the D way ahead and that’s not the case this year. So we now have a truly competitive environment for both sides of squad to grow & thrive in.
as for strength of schedule, out of 16 games this year we only play 6 playoff teams and the pats hold two of those spots, after the pats there are only 4 playoff teams from a year ago we play.
BUFFALO SUCKS!
Lol…that is how you get to the point.
Damn, first practice with tackling to the ground and Ajayi has to go to the locker room with the trainers. SMH
Seems Ajayi just got his bell rung. The trainers took his helmet away, he may be done for the day. (Crossing fingers it isn’t serious)
chirp, chirp, chirp chirp
Dead around here this morning.
please no year full of concussions for Ajayi … fingers crossed
WOW, Brandon Albert announces his retirement today. I wonder how that effects our draft pick from Jax? Do we still get the 7th round pick? (not that many 7th rounders make a difference anyway.)
“Retirement allows the Jaguars to seek up to $3.4 million in bonus money paid by the Dolphins to Albert, since the Jaguars inherited his contract via the trade. It may seem unfair, but that’s precisely what the Buccaneers did after trading for quarterback Jake Plummer, who retired in lieu of reporting.”
WTF?? Fucking Jags get to recoup the money Miami spent? SHM.
I still didn’t see anywhere how this effects the trade compensation to the Dolphins.
Where does it say that they get their pick back? Or is that a rule?
sorry misread.
Since they mentioned what benefit the Jags get from his retirement, that means the trade is valid and we get the 7th. Basically, if the Jags get a benefit the trade is valid.
Well, the 30 duplicate twitter posts confirm. Ajayi is being evaluated for a concussion. DAMN!
Please, please no, no,
LOL

Adam Gase said they held Jarvis Landry out of the rest of scrimmage because it was getting testy….and Landry’s an aggressive player.
Hal Habib ✔ @gunnerhal
Gase says Wake looks like he’s 25. Was supposed to get today off but he told Gase no chance of that.
GO Cam Wake!

Reply
Boulder, it doesn’t say it anywhere that I can find. It is a 2018 draft pick and I wasn’t sure if it was a conditional draft pick or a straight up pick and was just wondering out loud if it DOES effect our pick or not.
We still get the pick.
Yea Sorry I misread your post anyway. You were talking about our money not our pick
Is this a good thing? I would think we’d want tanny to be careful with the football.
Per walker
“Dolphins HC Adam Gase said he wants QB Ryan Tannehill to be aggressive and don’t overthink things. Tannehill’s had a few interceptions in training camp so far to LB Kiko Alonso (two) and safety Michael Thomas (one).”
It’s just camp, let him wing it, he’s not a rookie.
Was in the front seat of the bus saying that we should try to get Albert to take less money and the change to G for two-three years. Could not have been more wrong. Team Gase showed they had a much better feel on it than me again. As hope they prove me wrong on Stills too…..these guys make much smarter moves than he past ones.
Albert on his future plans……”I look forward to returning to Miami, the place that I now call ‘home,’ and running my businesses, while giving back to the community.”

Dolphins will send the seventh round pick back to JAX due to BA’s retirement
well that sucks.
Just look at it like he retired while with us and the trade never happened.
So then the other report is wrong, and we get to keep the dead money. Jax can’t have both.
According to mando the phins are now looking for another RB to add to the mix. I think that’s a good move.
DAVIE–Former Dolphins left tackle Branden Albert announced his retirement this morning, ending a nine-year career that included three strong seasons with Miami.
The Dolphins traded Albert to the Jaguars shortly after last season as part of an agreement to bring in Julius Thomas. It was broken into two separate deals, with Albert going out in exchange for Jacksonville’s 2018 seventh-round pick. That pick acquisition is negated by his retirement, a source said.
According to the Palm Beach Post we do not get the pick now that BA has retired. Sucks, but it is only a 7th round pick.
That could be true……and could have been worked into the deal as a condition, but him retiring does not affect our cap at all. He had no guaranteed money left. Left over proration of cap bonus, but we ate that on the trade anyhow.
If a guy retires with years left on his contract a team can get that money back and have it come off the cap.
But he had one year left and we were ready to cut him. He had no guaranteed money left. We ate the pro-rated bonus versus the cap at that point. You thinking that now that he retired that we don’t have to any more?
They’ve said in the past that when a player retires while he still has a contract the team can go after his pro rated bonus, but I don’t think they will.
Stanger, according to Over the Cap .com we are carrying $3.4M in dead money for BA.
The retirement doesn’t effect that. I just thought it was odd that the reporter from Jax was saying that Jax could go after BA for that money (which was prorated bonus)
https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/miami-dolphins
Right — whatever it is, we were eating it on the trade anyhow. Now if there is some kinda of Ricky Williams thing that lets the Jags inherit some right with the contract to get signing money back…..just don’t know for sure. Guessing it was just a reporter trying to be the first to tweet though.
Like a couple of others, I don’t put much weight on strength of schedule. It’s a circular argument. Every year some teams regress while others progress. Miami
Right? Everyone is 0-0 right now. Many teams played better last year than the year before and many didn’t play as well as the year before. Injuries, etc will take their toll.
The narrative is that the dolphins beat a bunch of shitty teams last year. Well, when the season started many of those “shitty teams” were “supposed” to be good. Many went on losing streaks after the Dolphins beat them which further lowered their “strength”. Heck, I think we put 3 QB’s on the bench for the week following the week they played us.
Some tidbits.

we have this before with disregard for quality OL. Sometimes coaches think they don’t need quality OL. The OL has been neglected since the first 2 years of the Parcels era.
2011 1st rd Pouncey
2014 1st rd James
2016 1st rd Tunsil
yes we have 3 1st rounders in 7 years which isn’t good considering Pouncey hasn’t been able to stay healthy and James is average but steady. James was benched at 1 point during last season. Remember the turncoat Tackle we had from dallas and 2 players who were starters last year who got cut. Quality isn’t there.
You used the words disregard and neglect. We also signed Albert to a big FA deal. Injuries have hurt the group but it wasn’t a lack of neglecting the positions.
you are right they have not tried but they have failed miserably the last decade
It doesn’t always work out the way you hoped. Hopefully it will be better this year. Fingers crossed.
If James is so bad, what was the teams record when James, Pouncey, and Albert started vs games he missed?
how’s that wording 4 u? i’m learning to never say i’m wrong by the best trump.
I figured it was a typo.
Jags fans are hoping Bortles takes a knee during the national anthem 😛
Sucks that Ajayi may have a concussion, sucks that Branden Albert retired, and the stej still suck.
I think Albert retiring shows that the org knew he was on the decline physically and Albert came to that conclusion as well. Good career, good man, with him all the best.
Exactly, Tim. I hold Albert in high regard and wish him all the best as well. At his retirement announcement earlier, he personally thanked Ross, Philbin, Hickey, and the Dolphins organization. Class individual.
Of course he thanked them, he doesn’t want to pay them back the $3.4M 🙂
You guys remember our former OLB Morlon Greenwood? He lives in LV now and has a summer footbal camp here. I watched the Donkies SB win over the Panthers 2 seasons ago, Morlon was in the house, they announced him as former Houston Texans LB.
