OK, so here we are, the most important game of the 2017 season to date. Some, not all of the starters will be playing not only the entire 1st half of this game, but some will play into the 3rd quarter as well. Game 3 of the preseason is the so called Dress Rehearsal, and this will give the coaches a much better idea how the starters look, and where the team is at.
This game will not include heavy duty strategizing, at least not as far as the game plan is concerned. Neither team is going to show their true personalities, and will follow a basic vanilla gameplan. It’s all about execution. Who’s doing things right, who isn’t, and most likely, guys that aren’t doing it right will be executed. Well, not really, but they might be cut with a poor showing.
QB Jay Cutler had an excellent practice yesterday with the Eagles, and hopefully, set the tone for tomorrow’s game. It would be nice to see Cutler excel tomorrow, I think that could really boost not only his confidence, but also his teammates. For Cutler to look good, he’s going to need help from that shaky O-line. I believe OG/C Kraig Urbik is injured and out for tomorrow’s game, so that means OT/OG Jesse Davis will probably play LG, and Jake Brendel will probably play C, with Jermon Bushrod playing RG, and of course, the bookends will be LT Laremy Tunsil and RT Ja’Wuan James. We need this unit to look solid, to protect Cutler, and to give the RB’s running lanes.
On the defensive side, it’s a whole different story. We so desperately need for everyone to stay healthy. Newly acquired MLB Rey Maualuga will not be playing, but the Dolphins would really like to see some guys step up. The CB battle should be fierce, even with the season ending injury to CB Tony Lippett, we still have good talent there. Maxwell, Howard, Verner, Tankersley, McCain, Pitts, Aikens and Thomas give the Dolphins pretty good depth.
At LB, will Mike Hull be able to make the right calls, and even more importantly, not get washed out and make tackles? I’m not worried about Timmons and Alonso, but it would be nice for Hull to be stout against the run, even though we now have Maulauga. I’d also love to Godchaux continue to impress, and push Jordan Phillips back into the rotation. Phillips looks hungry all the time, but is he hungry to keep his starting spot? We’ll see tomorrow. I like what we have on the D-line, with our additions of DE William Hayes, and of course Charles Harris. I think Harris will just keep getting better and better as the year goes on, as they limit his snaps early on, and then slowly increase his workload. He’s mostly going to be a pass rush specialist this season, and with the current depth, that’s perfect.
I want to see the run game clicking, I want see Cutler upright and throwing accurate passes for scores, and I want to see this defense look tough. Our defense last year was kind, I want to see some mean. Don’t give opposing RB’s second chances, and sometimes 3rd chances, make the tackle! I want God-show to be all up in the backfield of the Eagles, disrupting everything. I want Hull stopping RB’s dead! I want Howard, Maxwell and All-Terrain shutting things down. Hey, it’s only preseason, but like a crystal ball, it’ll show you some things to come. I think we’ll have a better idea of what our team really is, and I hope for all of our sakes, it’s not like the oddsmakers say, that we’re a 7 win team.
GO DOLPHINS! Stay healthy!

Nice write Mike E. Hope you had a Great Birthday !!
Thanks Doggy! It was nice, I worked 13 hours, but coming home was great. My coworkers did a nice job of celebrating too, so it was cool.
any intel on what color uniforms we r wearing 2morrow?

Nice article and Happy B-Day Mike, Davis at LG? I guess Asiata isn’t that good?? and i do believe Godchaux has passed Phillips and is starting
Thanks Rob
Real well done MIke E. And like you I am actually feeling good about CB (at S Reshad is back) and how could you not with what we have going on upfront on D? Not saying we are going to be a top ten unit…..but middle of the pack would be a good step up on defense this year.
Thanks Stanger, and yes, good to have Reshad back. That’s HUGE!
with branch harris and wake will we get after opposing QBs?
Yes and Oink
Hayes has a fan in Mando at least: “Williams Hayes showed how outstanding he is, particularly as an edge run defender. He simply has the outside edge of his side of the field on lock down most of the time. Interestingly, he’s also shown a bit more pass rush ability than I believe the Dolphins were expecting from him.”
Good write up Mike.
Pouncey is starting tomorrow night. I heard Urbik is going to have his knee scoped and could miss 2-3 games in the RS. Steen has been playing center again as well. Also been hearing that Jesse Davis has been impressive at LG. We need some of these young long shot guys to step up. It would be nice to find some diamonds in the rough for a change on the OL.

Can’t help but like what you read about him…..seems like the Zach hardworker type they like.
Maybe but he’s not undersized for the position at 6-6 321. LOL
LOL — I’m not undersized to play WR or CB in the NFL either, but man would not that have worked out even was 22. Seems Gase likes what Davis has shown though.

Would be great if Jesse Davis can be a serviceable guard
I’m a long time believer that OGs can be found anywhere
And the fact that he might play between Tunsil and Pouncey might help him
Go Jessie Davis!!!
Agreed and what’s interesting is there are years when you’re looking at FA guards to target and many of them were undrafted or late rd picks who are now top players at their positions. Let’s hope Jesse Davis is a big time UFA in a few years. 🙂
Lol, if he doesnt benefit from playing between Pouncey and Tunsil hes hopeless. Im not sold he cam holdup, but im going to watch the game again and see how he plays

Lol!
LMAO!
LOL. We signed a LB who’s so out of shape that he can’t even practice yet.
Well he wasn’t in any camps, he needs to get into football shape and that starts with him getting acclimated to the So. Fla heat, shedding some weight and getting up to speed with the playbook. I’m sure he’ll start practicing next week.
He’ll lose weight real quick down there. Not worried. He knows Burke and enough of the system to plug the running lanes, which is what they signed him to do
“Anytime we can add an experienced guy like that this late, it’s a positive for us,” Gase said, pointing out that Maualuga will play inside linebacker for the Dolphins, returning to a position he hasn’t played consistently since his days at USC.
However, Gase hinted that where Maualuga plays is irrelevant because of the skill sets Lawrence Timmons and Kiko Alonso possess.
“We’re a three-stacked backer team. All three guys are crossing,” Gase explained. “He’ll know how to do all of them. He knows the defense. He’s been in [the defense] before.”
ER, Maualuga will probably play a role similar to what Misi would have played – more against heavy run teams, short down and distance and goal line.
Absolutely. He’s a liability in coverage.
Think about him as the run stopping NT who comes off the field on passing downs. Same thing here as a LB. He only played 30% of the snaps last year for Cincy with his coach comparing him to a FB. When they’re on the field you will be, when they come off so do you.
Correct. He’ll only be on the field on 3rd down in 3rd and short.

This 3rd PS game business is really about the starters and key role players playing longer possibly into the 3rd quarter, with some game planning. But still it isn’t a sign of anything in the RS because it’s still a PS game that doesn’t matter and the teams are still working on things.
This is in response to some articles I’ve seen about tomorrow night’s game telling us a lot about the 2017 Dolphins team and what to expect. Nope!

Tim,
I wouldn’t think of Maualuga as anything at this point as he hasn’t even put on pads to practice yet. Who’s to say the guy is going to be motivated enough to even get into shape. You would think that if he’s a FA looking to catch on with a team he’d be spending time getting into shape so if he’s called by a team he just needs to get into football shape.
He showed up overweight; probably one of the reasons we passed on him in the first place. So nobody knows for sure this guy will even stick. Could be a complete waste of money at this time because he may end up getting cut and never even see a down in practice let alone a game.
All possible. I was just projecting what he is for us if he does make the team. I don’t think he’s a key to our season or anything.
WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO GO HENNE!
BrianCat
@BrianCat13
Wouldn’t get too excited about LG Jesse Davis. I’ve watched the first 8 offensive plays of the game closely and he’s whiffed on 3 blocks.
There you have it, another expert. LOL
It’s funny, if the defense allows anything they stink and if they beat someone off the ball someone on offense stinks. It’s a game of competition. Why are there so many 24-17 type games? I guess nobody is good enough. Someone didn’t do their job at some point. LOL
Sound the alarms
some one with a twitter account has an opinion!
Gotta take everything with a grain of salt at this time because of who they’re playing alongside. Asiata was at LG and it looked like he got beat on a rush but it was the LT who got beat and he went over to help out but didn’t get there in time.
When they’re playing alongside the starters they will do better because they don’t need to worry about a solid starter getting beat or not doing there job like they do when they’re in there with the scrubs.
When you’ve got Eric Smith playing LT and Brendel at C it’s a completely different situation than with Pouncey and Tunsil and I think everyone knows that.

Prof Lou,
You might be correct about Maualuga, but he’s accustomed to the heat of SoCal, he’s experienced, and he knows the Burke playbook. My only concern about him is that he’s NOT a 3-down LB. When he’s on the field, he’s going to be an issue if the opposing Offense audibles or runs a hurry-up to a passing play.
I thought we had this year SEWN UP at the LB position, being we had THREE 3-down LBs… then Raekwon went out for the season, SMH.
I’m not saying he’s not accustomed to the heat or he doesn’t know the system. What I’m saying is when a guy comes into camp overweight and out of shape it says to me that he wasn’t really that motivated to be playing this season because, if he was, he’d be a lot closer to being ready to go
Here’s a guy who’s going into his 9th season and he doesn’t know how to be a professional. Why we waste our time on these guys I’ll never know.
I keep saying it over and over. If this team is serious they’d be more aggressive. We’ve got a lot of talent and I just don’t want to see it go to waste because they wasted time on players who aren’t going to make a difference rather than going after someone who will.
There’s only one other little problem, man… we only had $5M to spend. Maualuga came at a BARGAIN price, still allowing us to get after a FA O-Lineman or otherwise.
I don’t disagree with ya, but it is what it is.
It’s time to make a trade and get it done. We’re close and we can really close the gap on the Pats if we can just get that defense where it needs to be.
Nice pick up by Damian Williams on that play
There were two Dolphins OL who did have anyone at a point in that play. The center and RT ‘guarded’ D players but basically had assignments on players who didn’t come.
TE and RB did more blocking than 3/5ths of the OL on that play.
LT looks good playing pattycake with some strong punches and quick feet
The signing of Rey Maualuga has done NOTHING to improve the defense.
How would you know that at this time?
Because he’s only had 1 good season at LB and he’s now past his prime. Pretty obvious. Last year he barely saw the field. If he were any good he would have played a lot more in CIN

If you want to get a ‘stud’ via trade, we’re going to have to trade a ‘$$$’ player of ours to free-up cap space. Landry won’t get it done (still on his rookie contract), and nobody is going to trade for Tannehill until he proves he’s fully healed vs his contract this year.
and there’s guys on other teams who are still on their rookie contracts.
“There’s only one other little problem, man… we only had $5M to spend……………..”
Man, I wonder why we have such cap problems? (Suh 19 mil)
Not to mention paying Tannehill 17+ mil to do leg exorcises for a year.
22% of your salary cap to two players
It’s all different now. Suh is here…..
M13, how often do teams run successful hurry up offenses? The majority of teams huddle up. It’s not a regular occurrence. Very few teams can maintain it at a high level for long periods of time. This can’t sub guys on the field thing is like seeing a unicorn. LOL
The most important key to the hurry up is successful plays. You MUST get first downs. We ran the hurry up and punt offense with Philben for a little while.
Exactly right. Teams also put personnel on the field knowing who can do it well or not. I think McDonald will be key in nickel and still add run defense when he’s ready to go. He’ll be back for both Pats games. That could have been part of the thinking – Gronk.
We trade McDonald. And Suh. And Jones.

And they are the guy’s you DON’T want to lose: cheap labor for studly play… see Jarvis Landry.
*guys
see Jordan Matthews
see Brandin Cooks
Everyone has a price
Talking shit about Suh is also a shame. You guys are better than this.
Would you trade a 1st rd pick for Eric Kendricks? I would. Maybe the Vikes wouldn’t take it; maybe they would but you’re doing what it takes to win a lot of games every year when you make moves like this. Pats found better value in going after Cooks than what they felt they’d get with the #32 pick and went for it.
That’s the type of attitude I want from this team going forward. We’re THAT close.
I wanted us to DRAFT Eric Kendricks, dammit! And had we drafted him as I declared… whey would WE part with him? His upside is still tremendous, he’s doing very well, and he’s cheap labor right now for the Vikes.
Why would the Vikes trade him? Do we really want to trade our 2018 1st Rounder to them? We already have enough holes that we cannot afford to trade our future (who knows what’s up with our QB situation next year).
I’d make that trade in a heartbeat. Why wouldn’t you?
thing about our qb situation is the offense, with it’s skill players is being built so that any number of guys would be able to play qb in it. if we got a stud in the first rd we could be a perennial superpower but it we got someone who’s more than capable of just running the O and had a stellar D like the Ravens then we’d still compete with anyone.
you can go any number of ways. but, if you sit on your hands and do nothing you’re not making the situation any better.
For one… IF Cutler craps the bed this year and Tannehill never recovers from his ACL injury, it would be WISE to draft a QB in the 1st Round in 2018.
I don’t care. I would go for it. We need LB help and we need someone solid and if we get someone good enough that could make all the difference in the world in how good our defense plays this year.
We need to hold teams to more 3 and outs this year and get our offense more opportunities to score pts. Just funkin do it is what I say. Go for it. Stop being the chicken little of the East.
If we were going to make a run, a hard run at Allen then I’d say “okay, let’s stand pat.” But if we’re going to put all our hopes on Tannehill returning and running the offense for us next year then I’d say we should just go for it.

But then, what do you do next year when the very young Raekwon McMillan is ready to go? He didn’t SHRED his knee like Jaylon Smith had done. Raekwon is going to be a future starter — if not stud — based on what he demonstrated in camp.
And think about it… we’re going to cut Byron Maxwell next year, saving $10M in cap space with $0 dead money. We NEED our R1 pick next year.
Maxwell will be prime for a restructure with a good season I’m not so quick to cut him.
I don’t disagree, and I’ve entertained that thought here as well. But when ya look at our cap problems in ’18? I dunno, Bro… we’ll see. Maxwell will TRULY have to earn as much.
And remember… we don’t want to be mired with dead money.
Unfortunately, we don’t have McMillans’ services this year and what does cutting Maxwell have to do with anything?
When Bridgewater went down the Vikings traded their ’17 first and ’18 fourth for Bradford.
You do what you need to do.
And went where?
Point is, they made a move they thought they needed to make to have a competitive team in ’16 because they felt they were close and didn’t want their season to be a waste.
We’ve got a lot of talent on this team and we were lucky enough to be able to get a qb that could help us out but we’re seeing two things so far and that is our offensive line is still suspect, especially if someone goes down, and our LB’s are still not where we need them to be. So what if McMillan was just drafted and could turn out to be a stud.
Timmons is a short-term solution and we still need a 3rd starter at LB in that group.
Hewitt and Hull are respectable backups but they’re not starter material.
You must have your eyes on the FUTURE!!!
If we need to replace Byron Maxwell next year, it would be nice to have a full Draft class!!!
we’ve got X, Lippett and Tank. We won’t need to replace Maxwell.
Mike E. – I’ll take that chili, recipe. Going buffalo hunting soon and, of course deer season is approaching so I need some new chili recipes.
I’ve gotta bail. I only returned to the surface for a studio break. Back to work with the crew!
You see teams making trades all the time and sometimes they work out and sometimes they don’t but we’re not supposed to make trades that could get us better or get us to another level. That’s ridiculous.
There’s no guarantee you’re going to draft a guy and he’s going to work out so why not trade a pick or picks for someone who’s already shown they have the ability to play?
Again, other teams do it all the time.
Signing FAs vs drafting players Hmm? If you look at successful franchises over the years one thing they have in common is they build thru the draft, we tried signing a bunch of FAs i think it was 1990 and preseason superbowl favorites turned into a bust.
And look at what the Saints just did in trading Cooks to the Pats. The Saints gave them a bona fide threat at wr and the Saints didn’t even bat an eye. They didn’t look at it and say, “we’re not going to help the Pats win another SB this year so no way we trade them Cooks for anything”.
So, we sign Timmons to man one LB position, we re-up Kiko and we draft McMillan and McMillan goes down and we’re just more than happy to go into the season with Hull and Hewitt fighting it out for the 3rd LB spot.
This is not what championship teams do.

We will be in the nickel at least 33% of all plays maybe more and neither Mcmillan or Malaluga/Hull will be on the field in that scenario IMHO.
That said I dont think Mcmillans injury is that significant to the team being that he would only be on the field 2 downs
Ha. that’s assuming we’re getting 3 and outs on D. Unfortunately, that may not happen too often
No, That’s an NFL stat, on average in todays NFL D’s play the nickel 33% of the time
Is that supposed to give us a higher level of comfort knowing that? Timmons is a liability in coverage as well.
True last year against the pats timmons was a coverage liability however he was mismatched with Julian Edelman, you can’t expect him to cover a player like that
What happens if Kiko or Timmons goes down for the season? We’re fucked. BIG time
Just think about this. If James, Tunsil, Pouncey go out for any length of time we’re screwed. If one of our remaining two starting LB’s go down, we’re screwed. You can’t argue that we’re not.
Sam Young is a major liability at T and we’ve got really no other depth at the position besides him. Doesn’t that just make you feel great?
If we go into the season with Kiko, Timmons and Hull or Hewitt starting at LB and Kiko or Timmons go down then we’re at two backups starting there. Doesn’t that make you feel great? But, yeah, don’t make a trade. Doesn’t make sense. Bullshit
You try to win every year. Goodnight! 🙂
You don’t win by playing it safe
Latest trade talk; Phillip Dorsett to BUF for Ragland. Trades a happenin’ everywhere ‘cept for Miami because weez good.
I din’t think Rags is a good fit for our D … not smart enough either. I’d rather keep Caroo.

I’d like to get Jordan Hicks from Philadelphia. Maybe we could trade a 2nd rounder for him. And throw in Caroo.
Here’s hoping one of the members of this site wins the Super Lotto Jackpot tonight!
Players get injured all the time. Can’t run the team on what if this guy goes down or not.
you’re right. they do. but when you’ve not even got the front line straightened out it’s worse. We don’t have 5 starters on the o line or 3 starters at LB.
why do you pick up guys like Carroo at wr or Tankersley at CB? Why do you keep adding talent to every area if you already seemingly have talent there? Gase said it again, the old adage, “you can never have enough cornerbacks”. Lippett gets hurt but we’ve got X, Maxwell, Verner and now Tankersley as well. Yeah, Tankersley is unproven at this point but injuries is why you add a talent like he is and not say “oh, we’ve got enough there”.
Same thing with Carroo. People are still going batshit crazy over the pick but Carroo is a guy who could have huge upside at the position and could give you the ability to plug him in if there’s an injury or make a trade for someone that can help you elsewhere.
So, even if the team had talent all the way around they’re not going to stop adding it in the draft and try to increase the talent overall because you are constantly looking at “what if” when there’s injuries because it IS next man up and you’ve better have someone who you can trust to go in there and help out and not skip a beat.
THAT right there is what you’re striving for and, if it’s not, then why be in the business? You’re wasting your time.

I can remember apts with the walls torn off wondering how bad broward must be since the news stations said the storm is going to hit the dade/broward line.It took almost 2 days to get out of our neighborhood with everything blocking the roads and the county pushing everything to the side of the roads so emergency crews could have driving lanes. The only sense of direction was what people told us and sun rises on east and sets on west. No street signs.Basically everyone created 1 clear road to the main road. Mt daughter still has dreams about that night.I only have several times a year
Is that Andrew?
yes sir
Lou I get what you are saying but if it were that easy all 32 teams would be 3-deep with HOFers at each position.
And there’s the salary cap because the Yankees did just that in baseball.
Well we’re fucked. Ethan Sears at the Yardbarker says we are mediocre at best. I guess I’ll come back and watch next season.
Well when Ethan Who declares you doa guess all you can do is pack it in.
Guess he didn’t get the memo – Suh is here, everything is different now.
I remember when Ethan told me he was a mediocre journalist so I stopped reading him…head his words

Lou,
It’s much easier to trade a first round pick (#32) when you are fresh off of a Super Bowl victory, are strong and deep in almost every position on the field, and probably have had the most successful run we have ever seen in the history of the NFL. All they need to do year after year is reload; we are constantly trying to find answers at WR (we have that now), LB, OL, and in the secondary. We can’t afford to give up picks if we hope to build sustainable success. Additionally, In regards to the Kendricks trade, why would the Vikings want to give up a starting LB? It wouldn’t be good value for us as he was a second round pick and we’d be giving up a first. His contract is up in two years, and he’s like going to want a new one next year. I hear what you are saying, but building a team and unloading 1st round draft picks, or any high round draft picks is not the way to do it, unless you are really close which I don’t believe we are in that position.
Successful franchises don’t make panicked trades over injuries

here’s a memory that wife reminded me of. We moved up to Davie with in-laws letting us put up a single wide on their vacant property. Within one week after the hurricane passed the federal government finally came to the rescue. For about a week or two, we could see military helicopters dropping supplies every 2-3 minutes 24 hours a day from ships off the coast. Never saw gov’t work like that in my life and I was in navy for 5 yrs.
JS – 25 years ago, I was teaching at the Special forces SERE school at Ft McCoy, NC. At 4:20 AM l may have been sleeping or running an interrogation.

This is the recipe, but I added 3 links of chorizo, pulled off the casings, and broke them up and added them after I’d already added the beef, then the ground pork. Once that was done, I added the chorizo.

I’ve made that chili maybe 6 times, the chorizo was the clincher. Let me know what you think after you make it, I’d love to hear feedback.
That sounds fricken good !!
I’ve made chili so many times, but this recipe has been the best, but I wanted to try it with the chorizo, I just had a hunch, and it worked beautifully.
I just sent your recipe to Annette. She will need to make that.
Looks good Mike- I’ll have to try it one Sunday this fall. Nothing wrong with the Neeley’s recipes!

Sounds like a Defensive strategy for our front seven on D??
LOL! Pretty close
25 years ago I was headed to Turkey for a joint exercise.
Just to pimp my Hawkeyes! Two Iowa players I wanted to draft are playing really well so far(yeah, it’s only PS, I know). Desmond King and Jaleel Johnson. The Vikings are gonna have to make some tough choices along the DL when cuts are made. I don’t think Johnson will be cut, but if he is I’d grab him in a heartbeat.
***
Ok, pimping over. Lol
M13 Loved Desmond King before the draft. Being a Big 10 guy myself, I would have loved to have drafted him in the later rounds as well.
Ditto
Good Luck on September 23- you’re going to need it!! 😉
Jesus Christ. Enough already.

It’s total BS. What now NFL teams have to kowtow to people’s opinions on matters of player personnel. Get the fuck out of here!
This team is nowhere near the point where we should be making lopsided trades.
We did that in 2013- look how that worked out…
Agreed.
Doggy, Brian – Let me know when you make it, curious to see what you guys think. We really liked it adding the chorizo, but you may want to try the recipe as is.
Lot of chatter on NFL radio about Henne starting tonight instead of Bortles. I think it’s a bad situation for Jax if Bortles can’t get his act together.
They might be on the verge of rebuilding their team and culture with Tom Coughlin as the executive vice president of football operations now.
Brian,
Sadly, I think we are gonna need luck every weekend this year. My buddies and I were just talking about how we really don’t even have a starting QB yet. It might be a rough year for the old black and gold. Penn State is getting a lot of hype, but I’m not sure they’re all that and some crackers. They are certainly good enough to take their side of the conference though.
Lol, so PSU isnt all that, but they’re good enough to take their side of the conference? So beating out OSU and Michigan doesn’t make them all that? If it doesn’t it’s close enough.
Brian,
I would have taken King in the second round. I’m not sure he was a first rounder given he was probably going to be switching positions in the NFL and you never know how that’s gonna work, but he was just a baller…and a very smart and savvy player.
In general I would’ve taken King in the 2nd, but we needed McMillan more.
Stanger, how about the Dodgers Rich Hill giving up 0 hits through 9 innings only to lose it in the 10th 1-0?
WOW — hadn’t even checked the Bucs yet. Harvey Haddix’ revenge came like 60 years later. Given that we ain’t making the show……wish he had got it.
For a FF draft tonight (12-teamer ESPN standard)…….any advice? Don’t know where am drafting yet…..but unless Bell or Johnson are there sorta thinking might run with three wideouts to start and then figure out the rest from there. Maybe a stud falls, but looking like you can do “pick’a QB” or TE like used to do with Ds these days.
Just remember there are more quality WRs than RBs. I’d go RB early.
I thought about that too, but man if those RB bell cows go down does it screw you over…..and there are so few in the days of passing Os and and tandem backfields. And I like to go WR or RB strong up top and then fill the bench with prospects at the other.
I’m in a 4 man protect 10 team league so we start basically in the 5th rd. I protected A. Rodgers, Gurley, J. Jones and Beckham. I drafted Christian McCaffery and Eddie Lacy with my top two picks because if you wait in our league RB dries up real fast. In a redraft league they’re going to go fast too.
Would take Rodgers, Gurley, J. Jones and Beckham in a second tonight and feel like got a steal. Your planned ahead well.
They were my same protects as last year. Gurley had a very mediocre season last year but heard he’s looked good this year.
Tim
I thought JAX was on the verge of being a playoff team before last year. They do have a lot of talent on that roster.
Yeah but when you keep drafting top 5 maybe that’s not the case.
I have my first FF draft coming up Monday, 12 team, not a dynasty league. The dynasty league draft starts around Labor Day.
Brian,
Hey, what can I say? I’m not gonna pimp another Big 10 school too much! Lol
JAX LB’s : Paul Posluzny SLB, Myles Jack MLB, Telvin Smith WLB
RB : Fournette, Ivory, Yeldon
WR : Robinson, Lee, Hurns
CB : AJ Bouye, Jalen Ramsey
S : Barry Church, Tayshaun Gipson
Definitely some nice talent there.
I hear ya but it’s not adding up to wins.
Bortles was horrendous last year. That’s why they’re giving Henne a shot now, because while he won’t likely win you too many games, he probably won’t be careless with the football, and they would lean heavily on the run game with Fournette, Ivory and Yeldon.
One thing O and I agree on…..even if not the offensive line sky is falling part of the story.

Kelly: Dolphins should talk Branden Albert out of retirement
“Offering him an incentive-based deal worth $3 million, and asking him to play guard — a position Albert told me he was willing to play for the Dolphins — just makes too much sense.”
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-sp-dolphins-branden-albert-20170824-story.html
I thought it would’ve happened already. That would be a good OL. Basically the same one we had last year, but was never healthy.
wow, just got the maill and wouldn’t you it always happens when I buy the newest baddest thing. When I upgraded my tv I thought I was getting the newest thing. I get the ad from brandsmart and they now have TV’s 72″ for under 500 bucks. I thought I was doing great with my upgrade to 25 inch from 19. MikeE must be busy now a days with people needing these big gigantic tv because they are losing their eye sight. Hell, I can’t barely open my lazy boy all the way without hitting the big screen 25 incher I have now. These people must be totally blind….

While the Dolphins fear Urbik’s knee could keep him out of Week 1, I’ve been told ‘it won’t be long’ until he’s back. Doesn’t sound major.
Still talking about RT17?? Lol
LOL
I didn’t know he had the surgery yet. I’m glad he did and he should be ready for next year.
Just in time to be traded.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Doing my draft prep and best article I read on the current state (just for large redraft leagues though). Yeah lots of it matches up with my views, but learned some too.
https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/2017-fantasy-football-draft-prep-do-you-need-a-strategy-before-the-draft/
Who says making a trade that would improve your team in an area of weakness is a panic trade or a lopsided trade?
If you use a pick to get a guy who can help your team it’s no worse than if you used that pick on a draft choice and maybe even better if you’re getting someone who already has some nfl experience rather than having a rookie draft choice you need to develop.
The question keeps coming up “why would the other team make that trade?” I don’t know, but it happens and we saw it happen this season as well. Doesn’t matter. Point is, you’ve got to try.
Maybe they already did try. I don’t know. But, there’s little reason not to try and the arguments that have been presented so far aren’t very convincing.
How do you know they didn’t try?
well I went through every roster looking for a stud ILB or MLB and there are not that many worth going after and even fewer that their team would be willing to part with.
To make a trade, you need a trading partner. If a team has a great player, why would they want to let that guy get away, especially at this time of year when rosters are gelling and there is little to no chance to replace that guy. They would need to be TWO-deep at the position and there are only 2-3 teams that have TWO really good players at ILB/MLB.
They would need a #1 draft pick or a starting player themselves. Why would we want to give up a starter or our 2017 draft choice knowing what we know about our needs next year?
How do you know teams wouldn’t be willing to part with the player? Seriously. How do you know that?
Just because you look at the player(s) and you think it doesn’t make it true or fact.
Do you think anyone would have looked at the Eagles signing Jeffery and having Matthews there as well with a young qb in his 2nd season that the Eagles would have been willing to give up Matthews for a db or that the Eagles would be looking to trade Matthews because they needed a db?
NOBODY knows until it happens. NOBODY. So anyone on here who thinks they know better is just blowing smoke up someone’s ass.
The other team makes the trade, when they have abundant talent at the position, because they’d rather have draft comp instead of getting rid of someone for nothing.
No team has such an abundance of talent at a position that they could get top value for the player or releasing them for nothing. If we’re talking mid rd pick, okay, but that’s not a big time player. If we’re talking compensation for a player a team can’t pay, then maybe you get a good deal. But we don’t have the cap to target a player that wants to be paid top dollar at this time either.
yeah, it’s done all the time but, sure, it never happens. smh
JS – I am a Marine. Retired. And LOL at the 25″ screen – I have an 80″ that I bought just for football!
Mike E. I’ll let you know when I use your recipe.
Thanks Phelon
80 inches…WOW did you a get a disability for your eyes? Maybe MikeE can get you some eyeglasses suggestions or maybe advice on a good eye doctor where you live. I hope you are not driving….
Very interesting . . .

It’s because Pouncey is starting at C and Steen is ahead of Davis. I doubt Pouncey plays very much and wouldn’t be surprised to see Steen move back to C and Davis at LG when Pouncey comes out. Then you’ll see Brendel play C to finish the game. Davis will likely play at least a half if not more at LG tonight.
Ha. lol. Gase creates this buzz about Davis at LG and then we get to tonight and it’s “Anthony Steen will start at LG tonight”.
Did Gase create the buzz, or did reporters and fans just read too much into the situation?
^
I think Davis is impressing but he’s behind Steen at this time. I replied in more detail what I think it is.
Gase did. He’s the one who said Davis could very well be the starter at LG in the first game of the season.
Lou
That’s not really saying a lot though. Sometimes we all just run with stuff, myself included, just make it more than it really is. That’s a pretty non-committal statement if you take it as is.
^
Tonight is not the first game of the season. Steen has done nothing to be demoted. All that was happening is that Davis was getting work with the 1’s and it was a promising thing to hear. Gase has said Godchaux has surpassed Phillips.
Gase specifically SAID Davis was looking like he was going to get the start at LG in wk 1. It wasn’t just that Davis was getting some work with the 1’s
Yes it was. Steen had to move back to center when Urbik went down. Steen is ahead of Davis and Brendel on the interior depth chart (next man up). Pouncey is starting tonight so Steen starts at LG. It doesn’t mean Davis regressed. You’re reading way too much into this. Davis will play a lot tonight.
Okay there Tim. Whatever you say.
What time is the game tonight?
Thanks Tim
Lou, there is a difference in what’s happening and what your opinion is. I’m discussing what the reality is. It’s not a big deal either. Gase maybe said that about Davis to keep Steen on his toes. All motivational stuff. Keep working. Why are you on the negative about everything with the team all of a sudden? Trading RT, we didn’t make a trade and now this?
Do you think the loss of McMillan ended our SB hopes before he ever played a down at LB?
