Game Wrap Up with the Little Prawn: Week 3

jets_dolphins

Ahh…the football season is under way ad early in the season we got the horrible jests…so easy win right?

Eh…right Prawny?

FU Prawn

Prawny…What’s wrong…it’s just the jests?

Oh…I see…yeah.  Not a lot of highlights on Sunday.

The Dolphins were horrible against the Jests mustering only 225 yards (most of them in the air and late in the game)

The Jets held the ball for 36:08 to the Dolphins 23:52 in what was a disaster.  The Dolphins narrowly avoided being shutout.  It was just ugly.  why re-live it.

When it comes to the Timmons situation, i think we have grounds to terminate the contract.
Violation one, which is part of the contract signed by Timmons and all other NFL players:

“Player will report promptly for and particpate fully in Club’s official mandatory minicamp(s), official preseason training camp, all Club meetings and practice sessions, and all preseason, regular season and postseason football games scheduled for or by Club.”

Potential Violation 2 (dependent on if he knew ahead of time he had a mental condition that would cause him to do what he did):

“If Player fails to establish or maintain his excellent physical and mental condition to the satisfaction of the Club physician, or make the required full and complete disclosure and good faith responses to the Club physician, then Club may terminate this contract. ”

There are possible anti-collusion things at play, depending on what proof they have of what Timmons and the Steelers discussed, which would void his contract, as well as cause Steelers to lose a draft pick.

They can also appeal to the Commish for termination, but it would have to be agreed upon by the NFLPA, which pretty much means its going to have to come down to real good evidence of wrong doing.

The best we can get him for is whatever Club policies he violated, and the suspension which is more a re-cooping of some of his salary by not having to pay him the weeks he is suspended.

Either way i think he is a dead man walking for hos Gase has commented on this. He doesnt seem to be a fan anymore.

Lots of people cancelling their Sunday Ticket, burning their tickets and other memorabilia, and vowing not to watch the NFL anymore. The NFL’s got a problem they don’t want.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Honestly the NFL had some problems before this
parents aren’t letting their kids play
the game has changed so much in terms of the rules that its a problem
and I think people are getting bored with fantasy (I know I am) which was giving the league some life for a few years

      but now its political
and the escapism element is out the window as well

Both of you do realize Cutler didn’t have mini camp, training camp, and the entire pre season right? It’s like a pitcher coming back from retirement starting his 2nd game after missing all of spring training but 2 games. You have to give it some time.

  8. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Everyone is a little testy, let’s face it. That loss just sucked ass. None of us expected to get completely overwhelmed by the Jets.

As far as the National Anthem, and the NFL players, I just don’t understand why the President of the United States concerns himself with such things. Obviously, there are matters of greater importance, and if I’m being completely honest, I think his statements were much more divisive than he intended them to be. I understand he’s siding with military people who are offended by it, but the way he said it, to me, almost came off racial. I’m not saying he intended it to be that way, and I hope to God he didn’t, but if I was a black NFL player, I would feel like it was.

I get both sides, and admittedly, when the first kneelers did their thing last season, it angered me, and I felt it was disrespectful. I now understand that the majority are just to bring awareness to an issue of racial division in this country, that is going to take a whole lot of work to fix, but I do think bringing awareness to it is a good thing. I’m not liberal, I’m a conservative on many issues, and I voted for Trump, but I think what he said, and the words he chose to say it, make it seem like it was a racially charged statement, one I think he had no business saying. OK, I’ll step off the soapbox, and take my licks.

  9. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

BBM – Don’t run off angry. Hell, you know we all can’t agree with everything, SB is a cool guy, been around as long as you and I and many others. Don’t let that disagreement take you away. Hope you find your way back here soon, especially once we start winning again.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

TOP, he could have better decorum. Not saying he doesn’t speak for many people, it’s the way he says stuff that also pisses people off and it doesn’t help these divisions we have.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Eh, I think Trump loves himself and his big mouth more than he loves the country. He’s definitely pandering to a certain demographic saying what he said, while pissing off another huge demographic. I think he serves himself, not the country, but I see we disagree on this.

Whoa, is that a bit of love I feel. LOL Stanger, no I am not one of those guys who runs when I have a disagreement with someone. I literally had to run and do a 15k bond over in the next county. I meant I was going to catch y’all down the road once I got there but then got to busy with another bond to post. I look back at me last statement and sure sounded like I stomped out like a child, but not the case. I am thick skinned and don’t go off the deep end (very rarely but not on here). I have always and do get along with everyone since the SS days. Hell, I don’t think I ever got into it with Home (but could be mistaken, lol).

SB7 and I are good. Always have been and always will. We have had great convo over many years. Not so much in the last two cause I was mostly reading and not posting. Everyone here is great in my book which is why I’m here.

Anyway, y’all know where I “stand” 🙂 with the kneeing issue and thought is was becoming an afterthought until the Pres opened his big mouth. I do think he was way out of line.

There is a video of Brandon Tatum, ex-college safety who I think might have been in the military and is a police officer, speak on the kneeling crap that hit it on the head for me. Look it up, I don’t feel like posting it here and creating a big debate about it.

  25. TOP SECRET's avatar TOP SECRET says:

TIM……it’s funny how fast the liberal indoctrination in public schools makes one forget when it used to be respectful to honor our nation’s anthem and colors…..for ALL those sacrifices…SHAME.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I agree with this. When I was in school we had national pride. I never thought about protesting it because of the actions of a few and I still don’t. I believe in America and the sacrifices that were made for our freedoms. But there are ways to go about it better than what a lot of people are doing and saying and that includes our president.

    • D's avatar D says:

They grew up to stories of about activist leaders and protests, and fighting for peoples rights against our own, and cops and the military were the bad guys. We grew up to guys storming the beach at Normandy or in my case Iwo Jima, we saw cops as our neighborhood protectors and the military as our country’s.

Our grandparents were from the 20’s and 30’s theirs were from the 60’s and 70’s.

Cops killed college kids from their grandparents generation, our grandparents cops helped old ladies bring in their groceries and got a kids cat down from a tree.

Military from their generation, didn’t want to be in the war they were in, they dodged draft if they could, they came back and joined the protests, ours charged machine gun nests so the French could have their country back, or so putting Japan out of business so we didn’t have to fight two wars at once.

Its a generational perspective difference man, plain and simple, and while we see our grandparents and their generation as fighting and dying for freedom, so do they.

  32. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

I believe Trump was elected because people were tired of the same political bullshit from the Washington insiders. It takes name recognition, money and a huge ego to run win a campaign, which he had. You’re not going to find a lot of folks out there that have that. Political insiders will do anything, say anything, make a deal with anyone in order to keep their power. I think a good deal of people who voted for him didn’t like him but they disliked the status quo even more. Voters closed their eyes, held their noses, and voted for him. Rather than recognizing the opportunity he has to make change, he is continuing his pompous self promoting style. I don’t like the players kneeling during the national anthem because it’s disrespectful to those who have fought and sacrificed for this country. The protest isn’t about the national anthem or the flag. I think there could have been better ways to protest that fit the issue better. I also don’t like what the President has said about them. He is making matters worse. Apparently I don’t like anyone.

    • D's avatar D says:

Lol im pretty much with ya, i could not bring myself to vote for Trump but there was also a better shot that id sacrifice a testicle than vote for Hillary. It is what got him elected, and i think a lot of people are right now second guessing it (obviously not Top though lol) but i did have hopes that he would at least stick to “making America great again”.

I dont at all like the fact he stepped into the sporting arena. I don’t think that he was protecting the vets, i think he was being his normal bombastic self getting his twitter followers to help his ego from a few more likes. If he really wanted to make them stop, he needed to do that different.

I love our vets, im a very proud grandson of a guy who always in my eyes will be a hero, but to me i felt like what he said was almost anti what my grandfather fought for. So it actually makes me mad at him for doing that. If he got his way and those guys had gotten fired for it, we just took a step back towards dictatorship. I just don’t see how it was a good thing nor a good statement and i say that with every patriotic bone in my body.

  34. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

This whole kneeling thing would have died with Krapernick if people didn’t get all up in arms about it. The people causing a big stink gave this whole stupid movement power.

So in effect, the media made a big deal about it, the people who rail against the (left) media got predictably wound up and kept it relevant, Trump, on queue, pandered to his base and fanned the flames. Now I get to see this stupid conversation played out over and over again on my football Sunday and on my sports blog. Yay!

So did the (left) media play a bunch of suckers beautifully or what? And you thought they only controlled their ‘brainwashed’ followers.

I don’t believe in the kneeling, I respect my flag, but every time I go to an event that plays the anthem, I see people on their phones, ordering food, talking to each other, etc, etc, not paying attention to the anthem! A lot of people. What the hell do I care if some dumb football player does it?

This shit should have ended with Krapernick, but people are so fucking concerned by what other people do, they just have to control it, have a say about it, be heard to have an opinion on what this other person is doing when it truly does not impact their lives AT ALL. Who fucking cares?! But no, this is the society we have become. The fight between the sides HAS BECOME the narrative, and both sides play us off against each other beautifully. Enjoy this, for we have created this for ourselves, lol.

On a lighter note, i dont know if anyone has ever heard me talk about what i do for a living but im a support and development manager for a PACS software, so all day im looking at different radiological shots of the human body.

I was joking with my guys the other day that just like that scene on the matrix where the guys says “i dont even see the matrix anymore, i see blonde, brunette, redhead” that most of the time just by the radiological shot im looking at i can tell you all kinds of stuff about the person. I can tell if the person is short, tall, heavyset, or skinny. I can tell if a woman has really large boobs, not from the shot itself, but by the number of shots that it takes to cover the entire breast, i can tell you if its an elderly woman or younger, i can tell you if a person is fond of piercings. Many times i want to unsee some of what i see lol, but i have to soldier through it..

I cant tell you all kind of stuff, but there is one thing i cant tell you from looking at those shots. The persons race. If we stop caring about that paper thing frigging layer that surrounds our flesh, we would be in a lot better place on a number of subjects. Both sides make such a big deal about it, but from my perspective, from the business i am in, we are the same people at the core of us we just need to remember that more often.

Ok maybe not so lighter at the end.

  36. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m about –> this <– close to boycotting the NFL until after Roger Goodell is fired, once and for all. He's clearly been the radical leftist rabble-rouser for far too long. There's nothing wrong with what President Trump has stated: the so-called trampling of 1st Amendment rights do NOT apply to business… as I've been reminded in the past (SS days) that the Constitution does NOT pertain to Goodell and my despise of him. CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

Goodell has been fanning these flames of divisiveness for over a decade now with his BS rules of his own discretion. The Cowboys were NOT permitted to wear decals on their helmets to honor the 5 Texas cops who were shot to death by racist black sniper: it would be divisive. Goodell has threatened to suspend/fine any player who wanted to commemorate the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks: it would be divisive. Goodell has fined DeAngelo Williams and William Gay for uniform violations as they tried to bring awareness to a cure for cancer and domestic violence, respectively: it was too divisive. GTFO

I'm TIRED of Goodell's PC rhetoric and radical leftist agenda. Sports is NOT THE PLACE to grandstand for political agendas. These are millionaire players (just like Hollywood actors) trying to influence the public with their clown political antics. If I were to do at my workplace what these kneeing NFL clowns are doing, I'd be FIRED. And that includes praying, soliciting, using racial/religious/sexual slurs ("Trump is a white supremacist" ~ Jemele Hill of the failing ESPN), and the list goes on and on and on.

This isn't a racial issue, but it's being made into one by the radical leftists who OWN the art of race-baiting. President Trump is ASKING (in his trademarked, loud and proud way) for all fellow countrymen to HONOR our flag, anthem, those who serve and have served, and those who gave their very lives for the FREEDOMS we have today. He's not a racist, he's not trying to suppress 1A rights, and he's certainly NOT being "divisive" (b> FIRE GOODELL

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And what exactly is going to be accomplished by kneeling for the flag and anthem, other than pissing at least 50% of the country off, I would ask? It’s the same as talking political on a football blog, where you piss at least 50% of fellow bloggers off… I’ve learned the lesson personally. NOTHING gets accomplished, it only stirs more hatred.

So I speak to this not to talk politically on a football blog, rather that the NFL is going to DIE under Roger Goodell if this BS continues. I do NOT want to see that happen! For those keeping score at home, ‘SNF in America’ (NBC) took a YUGE ratings hit last night: America is speaking out against the BS.

It’s NOT about Trump (though I do wish he’d temper his tongue at times). It’s no longer solely about Kaepernick. It’s not even about race. It’s about Roger Goodell fanning the flames of POLITICAL divisiveness via the willing NFL owners and their players… KNOCK IT OFF.

Id stand as well, as i said earlier, but i would lock arms with my teammates for sure. I dont see how that would be anti anything.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

To me (and perhaps it’s only me), locking arms is acknowledging something amiss in this given matter. Love the symbolism of as much, but I’m not sure that’s a great way to go about it. I’d rather just see ALL of us fellow Americans acknowledge our flag and anthem as ONE on our feet.

All good, D. I appreciate your side of peace here to accommodate both sides of the players.

      • D's avatar D says:

Incidentally, to me the worst of all of it was the way the Steelers and about 2 other teams handled it, which is not even come out for the anthem. I think that pisses me off more than a kneel. Also, if you look at things, oyu can tell which of the guys have their hearts in the right place.

Kaeprnick would hold his head up, talk to other people around him if they passed by and through a compliment for kneeling his way, he wasnt paying attention or being reverent at all. Stills and Thomas, they kneel, it might not be something that everyone likes but they are reverent about it, they bow their heads, i saw Thomas and Jenkins signing the anthem from their knees last year. Some of them, absolutely its a slap in the face, but others…..

I just dont know maybe i am turning into a pussy in my old age, but i respect how some of them are going about this, and i really respected that Stills took the talks to a community forum to actually work on the problem. That made me change my heart some too.

  39. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Tim,

I hear you on your concerns that Cutler’s arm may have lost some zip and you may be right. But for me, I think it’s more a matter of rust and lack of trust (that is, lack of cohesion) with his new teammates.

Doesn’t matter to me who is right or wrong in the end, but I think we both hope I’m right and that Cutler will continue to emerge as our season goes on. 🙂

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah of course. The velocity on his passes is what has me concerned. Not the bad performance from the entire offense, that can happen and does to many teams. It’s the way his passes looked. He had a friggin cannon and I’m not seeing it. I hope it’s just a dead arm from not having the full offseason to get warmed up. QBs and pitchers go through that in the offseason and then they’re good to go to start the season. So hopefully that’s what he’s going through.

They way they are going about may be wrong, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s right as rain if leads to interaction and dialogue between inner city people and the police, and a coming together of sorts. That would be ideal, and hopefully, that’s where it’s headed.

    • TOP SECRET's avatar TOP SECRET says:

positive dialog is always important and a good thing…..still waiting for some positive dialog about how more folks are killed in Chicago than in Afghanistan…..culture?

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  46. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Well seeings as I found a couple of pennies on the ground I’ll share them with you!

    First
Personally most of the decisions in my life are answered by one question!
    Would that embarrass my Dad?
    It makes things pretty easy!!!!!!

I don’t remember who said it earlier about the Media stoking the fire of dissension, but that is exactly how I feel!!!!!!

    Second
Don’t disrespect MY flag and MY country for any reason!
I understand that I actually share them with a lot of people, but that doesn’t make it less mine!

    Third
I will fully respect and support your right to free speech. just don’t disrespect MY country / Flag.
Kneel at halftime! Kneel during warm-ups! Kneel during halftime! Kneel during the start of the game delaying it! Kneel during the post game and pre game interviews!

    Fourth
If all the media ever talks about are the police officers that shoot minority teens makes all cops racial profiling killers.
    Then too follow that logic
ALL NFL players are murdering wife beaters!

All I really know is that every time a father calls the NFL players any name that their kids hear.
That will be the lasting effect of this activity.

For the fathers that have children at home. PLEASE remember that after the name Colin Krapernick is forgotten, they will remember what you said. and that might change what they think will embarrass you or not!

Peaceful protest is constitutionally protected. It really doesn’t matter if any of us find that form of protest disrespectful, and those of us who are offended by such protests, should be strong enough to put our own hurt feelings aside and realize that the president should NEVER call men, fathers, community leaders, exercising their constitutional rights to peaceful protest “Sons of bitches”.

I remind you that his words for these peaceful, law abiding American men were stronger then his words against a murderous white supremacist just a few weeks ago. A man is known by his actions:

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

To clarify, this is the full page ad that Trump took out advocating for the death penalty to 5 minor boys who were falsely accused, and several of them falsely imprisoned for years, for a crime they did not commit.

Jerry Jones was the only team owner to NOT make a statement…. and his entire team knelt. I’m surprised we didn’t see Jones taken out on a stretcher from the aneurysm.

For what it’s worth… I’ve become so sick of politics that I make a point of listening to music rather than the news… and now Sunday football is no longer an escape.

However, I am thoroughly enjoying the fact that discussions, like those on this blog today (I’ve read them all), are taking place. The more discussion, the more chance of finding common ground rather than demanding others ‘swim to MY island’.

  53. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Jahn to be quite honest I don’t care what the President has to say anymore than the NFL players.

    Both have that right! 😉

  54. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Jahn, the one thing that has me annoyed about some of the accusations about Trump is I never see him saying it, it’s always reports. Not the “Sons of bitches” comment, I could see LBJ and other presidents saying that. The white supremacy stuff. I’ve seen him denounce it a dozen or more times going back to the 90’s yet the media keeps asking him and he keeps saying the same thing over and over. It’s not an article, it’s video of him saying it over and over throughout the years and during his campaign. It’s one thing to not like the guy, it’s another to ignore reality. That shit bothers me and I don’t care who it’s about.

Tea Party rallies accused Obama of being a Nazi, socialist, communist and on and on. People really invested in their politics have a way of playing the same ugly game and claiming truth when they’re lying. It’s gotta stop. We have more information at our finger tips than ever before yet we also have more propaganda. “We do it to ourselves… we do, and that’s what really hurts.” – Radiohead

LET’S END THIS HATRED towards our Flag and our National Anthem. Too many died for your right to protest something that then spits on our dead, for crying out loud. That’s akin to the French desecrating our American graves in Normandy in their protest of the Iraq War.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

I’m not seeing hatred towards our flag or national anthem. I think that’s the only false narrative going on in this whole discourse. They are protesting, legally, and peacefully what they consider to be injustice.

I see your point Tim, but again, a man is known by his actions, and I showed you just one of many many actions in that newspaper ad. When anyone can show me a few examples of him championing the rights of minorities, even at the cost of reprimanding white people, it’ll be the first evidence I’ve ever seen that he’s NOT emboldening white supremacists and playing dangerous political games that could result in race war or worse.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

  58. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

    Jackie Robinson’s autobiography (1972):
“As I write this twenty years later, I cannot stand and sing the anthem. I cannot salute the flag; I know that I am a black man in a white world.”

A flag is a symbol. For some it symbolizes the sacrifices made by our military… for some it symbolizes equal opportunity…

#42 wrote about what it feels like to be treated like a “2nd class citizen” in his own country. So for those of you who “can’t remember what started this all”… it is the lingering aftertaste of Eugenics where a ‘person of color’ can’t just be American… they have to be a hyphenated American. Women’s Rights movement transformed that organization, but nevertheless it has a very ominous origin that liberals want to ignore. I do not consider Margaret Sanger an advocate of women’s rights by any means… anymore than Lincoln being touted as the ‘founder’ of the modern Republican ideology (because he was as BIG a gov’t as ever to that point). Hillary is as ignorant about history as Trump.

I say again…It has nothing to do with equality or social injustice. They are protesting mainstream society’s lack of acceptance of criminal behavior, misogyny, incivility, and general disrespectful behavior. They want to blame law enforcement instead of accepting responsibility for the culture they have created.

    *****

I think you are wrong about this Phish. Before I rant about it, Keep In mind I specifically reply to you bc I think you are smart, respect your opinion and won’t take/make it personal it terms of responding even if you disagree and I think you already know I’m a NYC liberal (relative to the other people in he board) and I post this not to get thunderous applaud but to promote discussion. I expect more people will disagree with me than agree. So its not a declaration of “you are wrong” by me. It’s more questioning why you think that?

My question to you is – why are you looking for underlying reasons when they are directly telling you why they do it. They can’t be more clear about it. They are protesting young minorities who are dying at alarming rates in confrontations with the police. It was always a call to review police enforcement policies.

I can tell you that I personally don’t want to see any law enforcement changes that place police officers at risk, but I see a problem. I hope
nothing changes if change in this case means we risk police officers lives and that’s okay with me at the end of the day bc if that’s the result we all look at a problem, look at possible solutions and think about the risks and then make a decision. But I am having that discussion and it seems to me that everyone else is refusing to have that discussion.

Talking about what the protests actually means is not having that discussion. And it’s not actually dealing with a real problem in pragmatic way. More than anything else in contemporary politics – there is just a lack of basic pragmatism

The reason they do it is spelled at as clear as day for all of us. We don’t have to guess why or what it means.

It’s not to insult the troops, the flag or our country (albeit I get that response to it and I think Kaep chose the wrong forum)

But at the end of the day they are literally begging for you to care about it and talk about it.

I think once people start discussing the topic that is the intent of the protests rather what they think the intent is, who is insulted, or how they are insulted they (the protests) will eventually end but talking about everything else is getting is nowhere.

the reality is once it’s start being discusse, if ever, I don’t know what we can do solve it. I don’t know the answers, there is a lot of research on the topic and a lot
Of experts, including no police and ex police with suggested implementations. But that’s not the dialogue these days.

    Anyway that my .02

No intent to insult any of you. I just think you guys arent listening – and sometimes when people insult me I don’t listen either…but this won’t go away if we all do that

MF13, I hope you respond to my ‘response’ (awkward), because the widely accepted pseudo-science of Eugenics was strongly believed by 4 U.S. presidents beginning with Woodrow Wilson and heightened the “culture war” around the time my parents were born. As our country dealt with the aftermath of the Civil War (my grandfather had neighbors who told stories of fighting that war)… Eugenics became the cultural norm of my grandparents and parents.
It got Jimmy the Greek fired. LOL
We are still dealing with these perceptions today. My daughters who go to college in the “liberal” NE say that these underlying currents of lingering Eugenics are as strong in ‘liberal’ states as they are in ‘conservative’.

  65. TOP SECRET's avatar TOP SECRET says:

PIGGY…..I hear what you’re saying…..but for some, it’s very hard to take this protest serious…….when young black men are killing each other off at break neck record speed in our American urban settings…..why is that not protested at all?….or even talked about…..the numbers are mind boggling…..sorry to interject common sense…..just sayin.

The complexity of the issue is the conflagration of ‘race’ and ‘survival mode’.

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

BTW, I’m quite familiar with Dinesh D’Souza’s work. Remember, he comes from a background of caste. My wife has dozens of Indian colleagues in the medical field.. and most of them agree with D’Souza because to a person they are of the Brahmin caste… so naturally others have NO chance at this idea of ‘equality’. :/

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Social engineering and liberal policies destroyed many of the black and other minority communities with a culture of section 8 housing and dependency. I’ve seen it live too many times and it’s disgusting. That’s why you hear so many wonderful stories of minority athletes and entertainers escaping that culture. Why do we celebrate these stories then turn our heads that it’s a problem? “Straight Outta Compton” illustrates it perfectly within a typical movie time period. Many of those guys are living the American dream but it wasn’t easy for them. The thug culture is real but not all minorities buy into it and just want to do their thing. They have that right to be free and pursue their dreams like anyone else.

I’m not a rap or hip-hop guy even though I like some of it. I do like NWA, they are as punk and as raw as it gets. They lived it and tell it like it is even if they did some stupid shit along the way. Many of us did. The USA is not perfect in any way. But it tries to provide a life of liberty. It bothers me when people don’t see it that way.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Do you think without policies like section 8, that we would be in a different place today?

        I don’t

There’s been considerable more upward mobility in the last 4-5 decades than prior to that, still not a lot though to your point. – I don’t think section 8 helps that but I don’t think it’s the cause of lack of upward mobility among minorities

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Black folks and other minorities were more independent in the 30’s than many are now and that is ridiculous. I think it’s more about class than color or race. For those reading my posts… I have never sat, or spat, or anything considered ‘disrespectful’ during the national anthem. I stand, my hat is off. My family has losses which I feel every time these subjects come up. But I also have never been assumed to be a criminal because of my skin color. The number of my students who have had people lock their car doors just from seeing them walk past….. this is what I mean by the lingering Eugenics (the idea that the darker the skin the more criminally-inclined one is). This is the lingering mentality that leads to shooting someone for stealing beer, while others dismissively say “well, dumb ass shouldn’t steal beer” but ignoring the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th amendments. This is what many of our fellow Americans (who happen to be NOT white) are kneeling for. I am uncomfortable with that kneeling during the national anthem. But I accept that discomfort, because it is less uncomfortable than being assumed a criminal simply because of my skin color.

We have way more issues going on in the US and abroad to focus on NFL players. This was bad timing and arrogant with everything going on. We have bigger fish to fry. I think going forward we should focus and address the bigger picture going on globally and here in the Great United States Of America !!!

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Not saying racism wasn’t an issue but they owned businesses and were getting more educated. My S-I-L who is black, her family took advantage of that opportunity. Her grandmother owned five houses and passed them down throughout the family into the 1990’s and their family class has prospered. Education was huge for them. More so than my direct “family.” Just saying.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Policies put them there man and it was wrong, even if the approach was supposed to help. It didn’t in the big scheme of things.

I was an independent courier back in the late 80’s until the mid 90’s. I took routes to deliver packages from here to there. I was a long haired white dude trying to get a band going and not wanting to deal with corporate restrictions. This was on me and how much money I made.

I covered ground from as north as Albany NY, as east as Hartford CT, as west as Harrisburg PA and as south as Delaware, and many areas in between. Too many poor neighborhoods in this country as pols pretend to care. Most of them in my experience were minority groups yet still with many poor white folks in the mix. It’s a class thing. Our national discussion is a farce.

For those who went to bed, or watching Cowboys/Cardinals, … see what you missed? 🙂

  78. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Cowboys got their asses handed to them last week, then went back to their strengths. I hope the Fins do the same thing next week. O-line and JTrain need to control the game vs Saints.

  79. If the presidents only concern is patriotism and respect for the flag and military, why not handle it in a positive , unifying manner, instead of disparaging people protesting social injustices, and lying about their message?
That’s divisive leadership, calling players sons of bitches does nothing to solve any problems, and instead spreads deceit and hate when more pressing matters are put aside.
Trump tweeted in 2013 presidents should stay out of the NFL,
    AGREED

TIM!!! (in my ‘godly’ Al Gore voice),

“You are DEAD now (*generic 70’s echo effects*). You didn’t listen to me when I said your people would die 20 years after 1968 due to ‘Global Cooling’, you FOOL. Then, you didn’t listen to me again when I changed my mind in the 80’s, that I fucked up and meant to say ‘Global Warming’… YOUR BAD. I went on to tell you that the ozone layer above Antarctica was totally depleted and not able to be rejuvenated. YOUR BAD… it’s all good now and it wasn’t about ‘CFCs’… it’s about oil… even though the ‘Industrial Revolution’ was unknown to ME when I TOLD YOU it was about ‘Global Cooling’ in ’68. YOU made this happen, you stupid fucker, because you would NOT listen to ME”.

Kind of sounds like man-made religion, does it not?

ORBITS, Brother… orbits. It’s all cyclical. Average temperature in the dinosaur era? 136 degrees, here on our Earth. SCIENCE… not “consensus science”.

Global warming to climate change was a big WTF? Sorry nothing to see here, it’s not warming, it’s everything now. Oh okay. LOL

I could be totally wrong but I have a hard time thinking a hundred years of human industrial pollution which I do agree exists, has had this kind of impact on our planet. I still think there is a anti-capitalist movement happening. Like the Sun has nothing to do with anything. At the end of the day, regardless of where your faith lies, the Sun is God. Without it we are done.

  81. The NFL has been around over a hundred years. It will survive this unneeded and insensitive disrespect from a guy that took millions of dollars from NFL owners and players for his campaign.
The NFL stands in unity, and will thrive as they should, even if stabbed in the back

Last year we replaced 2 OL when Gase sent his message! Wonder who’s going this time?

Gase calls Dolphins’ offense ‘garbage;’ ponders changes

“A lot of bad football. More mental errors than we’ve had the last two years,” Gase said. “I’ll find the guys that want to do it right, and those are the guys that will play.”

I don’t think we make the proper pre-snap reads on the bubble screens?

I see other teams run them successfully!

If the defense backs off it works! if they move up we should call out to a 9 route!

  88. The president was elected to lead this country, right? Then why ignore Puerto Rico, Budget, taxes, health care repeal and replace instead of trash the NFL every damn day?
The twitter idiot lies are exposed, this was never about flag or military disrespect, it’s about controlling and trolling he NFL, when Trump tweeted before presidents should stay out of the NFL.
Cowboys can’t show team unity during before or after anthems? Why the fuck not? Fuck dictatorship and racist control of citizens, its North Korea style government.
Trump needs to leave the NFL alone, he wasn’t elected to destroy sports or black citizens, but a cheap political win is needed for the thin skinned selfish ego queen.
Why not Try telling the players they are sob,s to their face orange coward! Lol. I bet he won’t!

Missed the convo last night. Business got busy. It’s weird how a Monday night can be busier then a Fri or Sat night. I agree and disagree with stuff said, lol. Here, profiling does happen. A cop here told me he does it all the time but the reason is cause he ends up making an arrest 80% of the time. Says he doesn’t target every black man and said it was hard to explain but said sometimes you just get that feeling and make up a reason to pull them over. Says I’m right most of the time.

What bothers me is (yes SB7, a lot of shit bothers me, lol) the mind set of the current culture/generation when it comes to the police. I had this girl come in last night wanting to bond her brother out. I had gotten him out last year for cocaine poss, M/J poss, and DWLS 3rd offense. He took his lumps and served 180 days. Two months ago he got arrested for cocaine poss w/intent to sell, m/j poss w/intent to sell, (both w/in 1000 feet of a school) drug equip poss and DWLS Habitual offender. Bonded out with another company for 22K and case is still open. He got arrested again last night for cocaine poss, m/j poss, fleeing and eluding LEO w/lights & sirens, and DWLS Habitual (another 16K in bonds). I told her to save her money cause as soon as he bonds out, the judge is going to revoke his first set of bonds and put him right back in jail. She started to tear up and said “I don’t understand why they are profiling him like this, they watch for him all the time and it’s not fair.” I sat there dumbfounded for a few moments. Then I told her to not go to another bondsman. They will take your money only to watch him go back to jail. Spend your money on an attorney. She thinks this is profiling because of what she hears from the news and other people. She feels that her brother is a victim and said she was going to file a complaint with the sheriff’s office. I said, “OK, you do that and I will pray for your brother.”

Anyway, forgot to mention the profiling cop I mentioned in the first paragraph is black.

  90. Steve, I’m not a corruption backer, I never wanted him as president.
I want the NFL, Dolphins, and no presidents trying to destroy it, especially when the corruption president took the NFL owners and players money for his campaign, then trashes their product
He’s the most corrupt president ever, no I don’t support him!

  91. Steve, I welcome discussion with You, but I’m being honest, and don’t back corruption brother. So we would need to get past this misconception to continue. Works calling for now, but if You enjoy the presidents daily meddling in the NFL, feel free to say it, have a great day!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

You back corruption indirectly. The thing I’ve heard the most over the last 30 years, that people hate about our govt is the corruption, career politicians says it all. Can we agree the corruption in DC is a major problem?

I’m afraid this season might be a loss. The Saints struggled the entire season after Katrina. I know the situations have some differences but there’s just too much going against the team right now. I hope we can right the ship like we did last year. At least it’s still early.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Much as that loss stung,we are 1-1. But for sure the first three four weeks have not been kind to this team off the field…..and now they are heading to London.
