Bubble Game – Preseason Game IV

The preseason finale game won’t mean anything to the starters, but it will mean everything to so many players desperately wanting to show enough to secure a roster spot.  The Dolphins at this moment have 90 players on the roster and they must cut that down to 53 by Saturday.  Think about that, 37 players will be removed from the roster.  There are a couple that may end up on the 8 game IR, and still others will eligible to be placed on the practice squad.  For all the others, this is at least temporarily, the end of their quest to be on an NFL roster.  Some will get picked up by other teams quickly, and others may get picked up when a need arises.

Another factor involved in the cut downs is the strategy by the FO and coaches as to how many players they want to carry at certain positions.  I’ll start on offense with the QB’s.  Historically, we have carried only 2 QB’s, and I expect that to continue.  I think David Fales will get the #2 spot, and Brock Osweiler will be cut.   At WR, it depends on whether we carry 5 or 6WR’s, but last year it was 5.  If we stretch it to 6, then it’s between Leonte Carroo, Francis Owusu, Rashawn Scott and Malcolm Lewis.  When we drafted LC3, and tried to look at the bright side, I hoped maybe he would be like Anquan Boldin lite and maybe push Parker for a starting job.  Now, LCIII is on the cusp of getting removed from the roster, and it’s real.  My hope is if we do carry 6, Owusu gets the nod.

The RB’s will most likely be 4, and I expect those to be Frank Gore, Kenyan Drake, Kalen Ballage and Senorise Perry.  I know Langford has history with Gase, but Perry plays ST’s as a KR and he has shown some ability to make some tough runs, so he gets the edge.

At TE, the obvious 2 are the recent draft picks Mike Gesicki and Durham Smythe, and I personally like Gray for his ability to block both in line and also as an H-back/FB, and I believe they like Derby’s potential, so that makes 4 TE’s.

On the O-line, the injury to Ted Larsen will probably open a roster spot, unless he’ll be OK for the opener.  We know it’s probably not serious, but still may keep him out for a weeks.  Guys that were on the bubble like C Mike Matthews and OG Connor Hilland may get a shot if Larsen will be out for a while.  Asiata definitely just moved up and should make the roster.

On the D-line, there will definitely be some tough cuts.  With the trade that brought us Robert Quinn, and the draft pick of Charles Harris last season, we have a lot of DE’s, but at least one of them (William Hayes) can slide inside in rush packages, which gives us more flexibility, and may bump a potential DT off the roster.  We know Quinn, Wake, Phillips, Godchaux, Spence, Hayes, Branch,  and Taylor are in, that’s 8, which leaves maybe 2 more spots for any combo of Malveaux, Langford, Pittman and Woodard.  Tough cuts indeed!

In the secondary, it won’t be easy either, and ST’s may play a big part as to who gets to stay.  X and Good Ole Bobby are IN, Reshad Jones, T.J. McDonald, Minkah Fitzpatrick IN, and then I’d have to think Maurice Smith and probably Cordrea Tankersley and Torry McTyer, but Tony Lippett’s health may put him on the IR (8 game), and Walt Aikens and Jordan Lucas are both excellent ST’s players, so that’s maybe one or 2 more roster spots for guys like Cornell Armstrong, Jalen Davis and Tavese Calhoun.

At LB, it’s a little muddled, with Stephone Anthony not really showing up, he could be in danger of getting cut.  We know Kiko Alonso, Raekwon McMillan and Jerome Baker are starters, but Mike Hull’s availability, or lack thereof may open up an opportunity for someone else.  Garvin is a solid vet who is a ST’s ace, so he’s in, Chase Allen was a former starter for us due to injuries, and he showed well enough, but the injury to Hull could possibly open the door for either Frank Ginda or Quentin Poling.

The final battle is ST’s, where kickers Jason Sanders and Greg Joseph have squared off all during TC and the preseason.  I think Sanders is in, and then we have P Matt Haack, LS God John Denney.

So that’s what I think about the roster, and Preseason Game IV is tomorrow against the Falcons in Atlanta at 7PM, the game will be replayed on NFL Network on Saturday morning at 6AM.

My ‘wish-list’ is comprised of only one thing: find a BIG-BODY/ANCHOR to spell Jordan Phillips. Everybody else on our D-Line is 305-ish (is that a coincidence? LOL).
    ————————————————–
There are 4 bonafide studs. Ed Oliver, Raekwon Davis, Derrick Brown, Jeffery Simmons (probable the most underrated of the bunch even as a top 15 prospect). Watch Mississippi States DL this year they should be pretty impressive with one of the best DE’s coming out next year and best DT’s next to him.

So what do you guys/girls think? 2 QB’s? Fales or Osweiler? All the other positions too, let’s hear it!

    • D's avatar D says:

2 QB’s but im not sure about the second one, or even if the second one is currently on the roster. When all is said and done, it might be someone the pick up after cuts.

4 RB’s Drake, Gore, Ballgag, Perry

4 TE’s Gesicki, Smythe, Gray and Derby

9 OL’s Kilgore, Sitton, Tunsil, James, Davis, Asiata, Young, Larsen and Sterup.

If Larsen goes to the IR to give him time to heal, i think they also bring Mike Matthews. I dont think that Brendel has participated much the PS to have confidence in him being ready.

6 WR Stills, Parker, Wilson, Amendola, Grant and Ford.

      ———————————————-
DL 9/10 Spence, Taylor, Godchaux, Phillips, Hayes, Harris, Wake, Quinn, Branch

The last spot im kinda torn between Langford and Malveaux or no one. Im still not sure if we bring 9 or 10.

LB Alonzo, McMillan, Baker, Allen, Poling, and Garvin

DB 9/10 Jones, McDonald, Fitzpatrick, McCain, McTyer, Howard, Aikens, Tankersly, Lippett.

If Lippett goes to IR to get right, or they bring 10, then Smith makes it, and if both is true i think Armstrong also makes. it.

I’m curios why we didn’t / haven’t pulled the trigger?
Maybe we are waiting for cuts?

    I know what Gase said!
    But I don’t believe him!
    ———————————————
Either he is sticking with these terds and hoping for the best, or year i think he is going to look for a vet once cuts happen. I keep hearing Matt Schaubs name as on potential vet backup to get cut. A young guy who is pretty consistent and may get cut could be Nate Sudfeld in Philly. Paxton Lynch is supposedly on the outs in Denver, but i dont think he would be a reliable backup option, maybe a developmental project, but definitely no stability from the backup kind of security. The Saints are probably going to cut Tom Savage, he isn’t a starter but he might be good enough to get you through a couple games in a pinch. So far that’s all i found other than the Teddy Bridgewater trade scenario. I dont know how long the Jets would be willing to hold on to he and McCown before finally cutting one, but you can bet they are going to try to get something for one or both of them.

Anyone here interested in taking over a team in a keeper FF league? Not much of a buy in, just 8 dollars, and then $25 if you want to win the big prize at the end. If so, please let me know. We need at least 2 teams to be taken over, and if you’re interested, I can show you your team roster as currently constituted, which you would get to cut down to 9 before the draft which will happen before the season.

    Thanks!

    Did my roster projection Pre-TC,

and not much has changed other than Hull/Larsen setbacks,

    Baker overtaking Anthony,

and Minkah & BMc switching CB positions…

Like Matthews (if need be) for Larsen),
but see Sternup as a possibility also

    GOFINS!!!

Was hoping to keep 3 QB’s but probably too many good guys elsewhere
that’ll be bigger contributors than whoever QB3 might be…

Hoping for 4 TE (Derby or Escobar),
    4RB (Langford or Perry)
    and WR6 (Owusu)…

  15. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m willing to bet (not literally) that Mychal Kendricks has been under investigation for a while. I’m also willing to bet that our FO knew about this… which is why we wouldn’t trade for him, nor sign him when the Eagles released him.

As a result, we got Jerome Baker early. We even passed on Mason Rudolph for Jerome Baker.

Haack hits some long punts against the Ravens, a Big leg punter is crucial to field position.

  17. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So after looking at ‘this and that’, I think we can conclude that Stephone Anthony hadn’t done enough last year — nor this year in camp or the preseason — to consider him being starter material.

We were, after all, looking to add a LB within the first 3 rounds of this past Draft, REGARDLESS. Had Minkah not fallen to us @ R1P11, our FO already came clean and stated that Tremaine Edmunds would have been our selection. Instead, we got Jerome Baker in the 3rd round, passing on what many perceived as an almost need at the QB position… whether it be to start in the event Tannehill didn’t rebound, to push Tannehill, or to simply be a QB of the future.

Did Anthony even do enough to remain with us as a backup? I doubt it.

My only issue with Haak is his accuracy. He doesnt seem able to drop the ball right where he wants to and kill kicks like putting just the right spin on it to have the ball stop dead doesnt seem to be a strong suit. No doubt he has a big leg, he just need to polish up those other things and he could be a really good punter.

You probably have good coastal Mexican dishes where you are if its not also some sort of overlap with Bahamian and Cuban styles. I doubt you have good or true Mexican dishes. I have had some authentic dishes in Texas and it doesnt compare to many things i have eaten elsewhere. There are 2 places here in Mobile that have legit Mexican dishes, one of them has two menus, one thats in english for the Americans who are there to eat mexican and one in spanish for the locals that dont hablo. I read spanish pretty well so i usually ask to order off that one and its really good stuff, well some of it, some of it is on the fringe of things that you probably would try but not want to eat on the regular. We also have a coastal Mexican restaurant downtown thats really good but its a fancied up fusion kind of place, targeting wealthier businessmen and local artsy fuckers.

I know, I’m not insulted or mad, I just didn’t see how saying that could possibly be racist. It’s like if I said I like tandoori chicken because it has curry in it, it would be racist against Indian people because Jamaican food and many other foods also use curry.

      • D's avatar D says:

You’d have to ask M13, i think he was the one thinking it was a little racist, i just assumed he was joking around.

  56. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Wyo, that’s not racist but a politician saying this is. How stupid can you be? SMH

Ron DeSantis Tells Florida Not To ‘Monkey This Up’ By Electing Andrew Gillum, who is black.

    • D's avatar D says:

The more of a public figure you make your self the more you have to be very aware of what you are saying and how you are saying it. Some things get blown WAY out of proportion but that above was on a level of stupid i feel like he should be seen as having meant it that way no matter if he did or didnt.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed. There were so many other ways to say it. Who even uses “monkey it up” as a phrase?

      • D's avatar D says:

I have seen it used in harmless ways down here, like M13 its a colloquialism here and i dont know of any origin story that sets it as having been a racist one, though there are other colloquialisms here that do make use of the term money to be racial.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

“Monkey this think up” is a colloquialism in the deep South. DeSantis didn’t mean ANYTHING by his comment, and we can be ensured that he wasn’t trying to lose the ‘black vote’.

      • D's avatar D says:

It is, but its also pretty damn retarded to say that knowing that in this day and age that’s all it takes to get you pulled into a racial debate.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It was a fucking stupid thing to say. Look at what happens when politicians don’t use their brains when they speak, now it’s all over the news and social media. I agree with D’s statement.

  57. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

LOL, I’m a dude who will cut open an avocado (bisecting, getting rid of the ‘pit’), and eat both sides, raw. Add just a bit of salt and pepper, and they are delicious… it’s almost ‘buttery’ in it’s taste. Now if you eat them too soon (before ripe), they suck and are essentially tasteless. And if you eat them too late, it’s too ‘mushy’ to the mouth and gross.

Eat them on time, and they are delicious, IMO! An avocado a day keeps the doctor away.

  58. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Well I was originally going to say if there was a large black woman cooking!
Order you some fucking food because it’s going to be great!

    So there is that???????????

  59. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

OK M13, were you kidding that it was racist, or serious? If serious, please explain . . .

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m about half serious with that. Somebody mentioned avocados, and then a lot of people seemed to go MEXICAN on that… particularly, guacamole.

Look, avocados are enjoyed throughout the entire WORLD, and grown in MANY places! I’m not sure I like that people equate avocados solely to Mexican guac. That seems just a wee bit ignorant, in my opinion.

Avocados aren’t inclusive to Mexico (our good southern neighbors), nor any other ONE country in the world. I just find it ignorant to pin ‘avocados’ to Mexico… that’s all. I see racist sentiment there.

  60. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

There are things people say that is in bad taste and can stir up thoughts for people of why would you choose that way to say something? Why even go there? Call it PC or whatever but we also have taboos in a civil society.

  61. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

The avocado (Persea americana) is a tree, long thought to have originated in South Central Mexico, classified as a member of the flowering plant family Lauraceae. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avocado)

  62. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – I gotta call you out on this. You’re employing a very PC liberal stance with this. Are you saying that when discussing tomatoes, if I say I like marinara sauce is racist to Italians? That’s beyond PC man, it’s insane. Please rethink this. It’s not a big deal, but the fact that you feel that it might be racist is odd to me. If you think “monkeying the thing up” is OK, because they use it in the south, even though the person that was in play in this particular political race was black, then you can’t think it’s racist to associate guac with Mexican food. It’s not ignorant either, it’s just “normal”.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Mike E, I AM having fun with this, Bro!!! 😉

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

No he was just being a dick!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The fact that the south uses it also raises red flags. How does the word monkey mean “messing” it up? Monkeys are animals who are quite intelligent.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Thank you…most people know the avocado is tropical and related to Mexican foods at least here in Texas. My aunt is Cuban and my sister-in-law is Columbian. I don’t ever recall associating avocados with other cultures. This is petty.

Being stupid and saying something insensitive and arcane , then defending it speaks volumes to me.

  63. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Sweet Baby Jesus….Do we have to find racism in everything these days. “Monkey things up” is not a deep South, shallow South, or even medium depth South colloquialism. Heard form of it in the Marines occasionally, but never growing up. Everyone is so sensitive these days that you can’t say the word monkey without someone yelling racism? How about monkey fuckery…is that racist? more fun than a barrel of monkeys?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

This world is totally fucked Phelon, so to answer your question, you really can’t say anything anymore w/o fear of people finding an angle that skews what you’re saying to be inappropriate. I honestly think it’s the downfall of our society. I absolutely fucking hate the PC police

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Because racism started it unfortunately. We all know that we live in a sensitive society and certain words have that effect. We all know this, so why go there?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yes to the first and no to second. But that’s not the same as what was said here.

The asshole racists who throw bananas on the field towards black players at sporting events is what causes this sensitive PC stuff. It’s always the extreme elements in our society that fuel debates. Most of us wouldn’t do that, right? You have to avoid saying and doing things in bad taste, especially in the political and entertainment arenas. That’s just the way it is.

Phish, I wish everything wasn’t always looked at as racist or bigoted or whatever either, but you have to admit that was a stupid thing to say in this instance. He had many other options to use than that. I see it as bad taste more than PC.

What if there was a political debate and one candidate was Indian and their opponent said does anyone else think it smells like curry in here trying to be funny? How do you think that would go down?

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I agree with ya, Tim. But guess what? We’ve already gone down that rabbit hole, Bro. And the sooner you realize WHO is control of this garbage, the better of we’ll ALL be.

BUY MORE AMMO is correct… props to Phelon.

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I haven’t actually seen what he said or the circumstances of him saying it. I would argue that he wasn’t being racist, because if he was racist he would be more careful of saying something like that when his opponent is black. Rather, I would say that the fact that he said it indicates that he is not racist.

Your second paragraph is a bad analogy. It’s more of a direct attack.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

But a spice has nothing to do with the intellect of a person due to their race. But that would be looked at as racist even though I don’t think ethnic food means you think a person of a particular race is inferior due to what they eat. But you know that wouldn’t go well if someone said that.

Ron DeSantis Tells Florida Not To ‘Monkey This Up’ By Electing Andrew Gillum, who is black.

That is a direct attack as well. He may not have meant anything racist saying that, but it’s fucking stupid thing to say.

    _____________________________________________________________________
Because by avoiding saying something, just because someone is offended by a word, hides a problem. And just because something offends you, doesn’t make it everyone else’s problem. Because the reason we live in a “sensitive society” is that we created it by avoiding words that might hurt a feeling.

Not sure what you’re disagreeing about, but if you think the US is the only place where children die, you’ve never left it. How about Norway? I can’t count the number of dead children I’ve seen in the Middle East or the Horn of Africa. China, Japan, UK (they’re on to acid attacks there these days), Central America, South America all have children die violently. Hell, our good friends in Mexico had nearly 30K murdered last year, many of them “kids.” And they’re on pace to surpass that this year.

I took the opportunity (probably should have ignored) to express my strong feelings against racism and more “ammo” (guns).
