2018 Season – Game 7 – Lions @ Dolphins – Fest Week!

This coming Sunday is not only another inter-conference matchup with the Dolphins facing another NFC North team in the Chicago Bears, it’s also the Fest game.  Dolphins fans coming from various parts of Florida, east coast, west coast, Canada, I mean this is epic.  I thought it was going to be ugly this past weekend, I will freely admit that, and that was before it was announced that Tannehill was out, and Brock Osweiler was in.  As it turned out, that may have been a good thing, because although I don’t believe that Osweiler is our answer at QB for this year and beyond, he undeniably brought a different mentality to the team, and the team responded.  How long this will last remains to be seen.  I strongly feel that Osweiler should Sunday against the Lions.  Over 400 yards passing, 31 points on the scoreboard, 3 TD passes (2 INT’s), and a big win when we really needed it.

It was a crazy game, and there was never a  scenario in my mind where we put up 31 points on the Bears, who sported a top 2 defense in every category.  They averaged 4.5 sacks per game through the first 5 games.  Much credit must be given to Adam Gase for figuring out a way to neutralize that, along with the O-line, and the QB Osweiler.  It’s also crazy that I feel our defense played pretty well, all the while allowing 28 points.  The turnover battle was even, we threw 2 INT’s and lost a fumble, we snared 1 INT and forced and recovered 2 fumbles.

Gore was tearing it up yesterday, he made his biggest impact so far this season with 15 carries for 101 yards for a heady 6.7 YPC.  Amendola settled into the “Landry” role, catching the short passes and trying to make the most of them.  Forget “Landry” though, it’s Albert Wilson who electrified this game.  He catches some of the same passes that “Landry” used to end with 8 or 9 yards and get brought down, but Wilson takes those for 50 + yards a pop.  Wilson and Amendola make “Landry” obsolete, so his name shall no longer be spoken here.

What a great pickup TE Nick O-leary has been.  Guy just comes in and plays football.  Need me to block, you got it!  Need me to catch it, you got it!  He’s pushing Gesicki down the chart, but this kid deserves it.  Kiko Alonso is playing great this year.  Doesn’t mean he still doesn’t have his weaknesses, but the things he can do he has been doing very well.  Kiko is probably going to top 130 tackles, he has 3 FF’s, 1 FR, and 2 INT’s.  Playmaker!  Reshad Jones seem to make a few big plays each game.   Even if he’s not actually getting the INT, he’s creating them.  Vincent Taylor hustling with a motor like a 440 six-pack!  That boy tracked down Trubisky and took him down!  Lots of things on defense that give you plenty of hope, and some that don’t.  McTyer was exposed yesterday.  It’s going to happen.  Let’s hope good ole Bobby McCain gets better quick.

Matt Patricia’s Lions are 2-3 in the NFC North, and this has not been a great season so far for QB Matt Stafford.  Usually, Stafford is one of the better QB’s statistically, but not this year.  The Lions have their own version of thunder and lightning, Kerryon Johnson is the lightning, LeGarrette Blount is the thunder. They basically have a 50/50 split in carries so far, Johnson averaging an impressive 5.7 YPC and Blount 2.5 YAACOD (2.5 yards and a cloud of dust).  The Lions have 3 WR’s that are dangerous, Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay and Golden Tate.  Jones is like what Parker should have been here, Golladay is closer to Stills, and Tate is like their Albert Wilson. Their former TE Eric Ebron is now killing it in Indy with Andrew Luck.

As I mentioned earlier, I’d prefer to see Brock Osweiler start.  Here’s why.  I say this with no disrespect to Ryan Tannehill, but I feel like we need to run our offense very carefully in order for him to succeed, and I didn’t see any of that with Osweiler.  Not that he was a gunslinger throwing footballs all over Hard Rock, but it just seemed more free, less tense, and much less careful.  It’s just what I saw.  Osweiler looked calm, and in control.  He wasn’t perfect, he won’t be, but there was a different element I haven’t seen with this offense, something intangible.  Tannehill is probably not going to be much better, so it should be easy to just say Ryan isn’t ready, so we’re going with Brock.  See what happens.  If Brock flops, it’s just as easy to say the following week that Ryan is ready.  If Brock plays well, no fan will mind if he remains the QB, we’ve seen what Ryan Tannehill can do, nothing wrong with going an alternative, especially if we’re winning.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone this week, and I hope the game can match the fun we’re going to have all week.

Oh, BTW, we’re 4-2, tied for 1st place in the AFC East.  Who woulda thunk?

MF, sacks are great, but sometimes pressures are worth more (as in a rushed pass that is picked off) so yeah, I agree with ya that he is starting to be felt on the field but want more.

  2. mf13ss says:

    WELL deserved, Albert Wilson!!!

  3. Rockphin says:

Wilson making plays really was why we won. I’m so glad we got him. He has been a yuge YUGE contributor this year.

  4. mf13ss says:

Before I forget… I wish all of you safe travels to and from the Fest. Enjoy, and help us WIN this week!!!

My bad I was assuming it was tonight never checked. Been looking forward to it too, lol
    Great game

  7. Tim Knight says:

D, M13 said people gave credit to Tannehill for the shovel pass to Wilson in the Raiders game and I don’t remember anyone saying that and it surely wasn’t me. It was a great team play. Yet M13 gives people labels like Tanne-holic when nobody was saying anything about Tannehill. Naples was pointing out that Osweiler threw a lot of short passes and our playmakers made plays. So what, it still counts and those plays helped us win the game. Naples wasn’t criticizing Osweiler or propping up Tannehill. Labeling people this or that and “the I told you so” stuff that goes on around here is obnoxious. We’re fans, we should root for all of our players and hope for the best. We know who doesn’t like who already. Repeating it ad nauseam isn’t something everyone is into and then getting labeled for not agreeing or going along is BS!

I root for the team and whoever is playing. That’s it. If we replace Tannehill at some point, I’ll be rooting for that QB.

    • mf13ss says:

Tim, if you want me to go back and show you the flack I caught after saying that Tannehill got over 100 yards via shovel-passes, we can do that, but I think it’s water under the bridge at this point to everyone else.

And I’m tired of this whole “labels” deal that you bring up. I wasn’t MOCKING anybody who thinks Tannehill can do no wrong by coining “Tanne-holics”. I thought it was clever and witty (no harm intended), Jahndoh agreed (thinking it was from D, of course), and you’re the only one crying spilled milk over it.

You didn’t call out several others here recently who made “labels” over the whole QB controversy deal (which dated back to the Mob days and Chad Henne), so I’m your target. We get it. Enough. Time to move on. We don’t get offended by these so-called “labels”, being everybody knows it’s all in jest.

These are mere football opinions and people bust balls! It’s not like some large political happening occurred and the world is at war! Sheesh! Lighten up, would ya?

      • Tim Knight says:

You’ve used Tanne-lovers quite a bit and now Tanne-holics is a new one. No need for it, that’s all. I also don’t see what is so witty about it. I don’t know one person who gave credit to Tannehill on that shovel pass to Wilson. Why would they? That’s like giving the QB credit for a handoff and a RB takes it to the house. Everyone praised Wilson and his speed on that play. Naples was talking about Osweiler didn’t really push the ball down the field which he didn’t. The announcers were saying that all game. But he did enough to help us win the game which is what really matters. Brady lives off of throws like that.

We’re all on the same team here as in we all root for the same team. That was the gist of my post. No need for labeling people as this and that because they have differing opinions about players.

      • Tim Knight says:

I also don’t know one person here who doesn’t think Tannehill can do no wrong. Every player on the team gets criticized for having a bad play or game when they do.

  8. son of a son of a shula says:

I kinda like the ad nauseum, lol. It’s like billboards when you’re cruising down the highway. You’re gonna see my bullshit every 15 miles whether you like it or not. Lol

  9. ElephantRider says:

    Regarding the RT17 shovel passes…..

It seemed they were quickly dismissed. Whereas Brock’s were how good he played. That’s all. No biggie. They both get credit for them at the end of the day as do all QBs.

Simple. They both run the same offense. RT17 has a larger sample size to determine if Brock is not equipped to push the ball downfield or not. Let’s see what a full week does for him.

  10. naplesfan2010 says:

Albert Wilson joined some select company Wednesday when he was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Honored for his performance in the 31-28 overtime victory against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Wilson became the fifth Dolphins wide receiver to be named AFC Offensive Player of the Week since the award began in 1984, and the first since Chris Chambers won it in 2005. The other Dolphins wide receivers to win the award were Mark Clayton (1984), Mark Duper (1987) and Mark Ingram (1994). Against the Bears, Wilson had six catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns. His performance included a huge fourth quarter, during which he had five catches for 150 yards and touchdowns of 43 and 75 yards to help the Dolphins erase deficits of 21-13 and 28-21. The 150 receiving yards represented the third-highest fourth-quarter total in the NFL since 1991. What’s more impressive is that Wilson did the bulk of the work on the two touchdowns, because he scored his 43-yard touchdown after catching a pass at the line of scrimmage and he scored his 75-yard touchdown after catching the ball 4 yards downfield. Thanks to those two plays, Wilson leads the NFL in average yards after catch at 14.06.

  11. Tim Knight says:

Wilson has become a major weapon for us and he’s going to start drawing a lot of attention so other guys need to step up and make them pay. We have a lot of speed to do that.

The Lions aren’t very good against the run and I expect Drake to have a big day. He’s gonna be pumped up to erase his fumble from his mind that almost cost us the game. He hasn’t had that big run yet and I think he’s due. 🙂

    • mf13ss says:

      Agreed!

      • Tim Knight says:

I’m pondering starting Drake over Kamara in FF because of the matchups. The Saints are at BAL and their defense is 2nd against the pass and 3rd against the run. It’s hard to not start Kamara but sometimes a matchup is the way to go.

      • mf13ss says:

        That’s a tough one, man.

      • Tim Knight says:

Very tough. I basically always go Gurley and Kamara. Just worried about the Saints on the road at BAL. They’re a much better home team. I’ll go with my gut on Sunday.

  12. mf13ss says:

    —————–
Laremy Tunsil is soon to enter our top-5, IMO.

  13. son of a son of a shula says:

If Drake, Wilson, Grant and Stills, alright throw Gesicki in there just for fun, raced from goal line to goal line who do you think would win the one hundred yard race?

    • son of a son of a shula says:

I’d add Parker but he’d get hurt walking to the line

    • ElephantRider says:

Stills. Longer legs take it for that length.

    • mf13ss says:

      Dri Archer! 😀 😉 LOL

Seriously though, I’d have to say Wilson. Man… he covers a LOT of field and VERY, VERY QUICKLY.

      • son of a son of a shula says:

Really I think I’d go GrAntman but Drake man I wouldn’t doubt him.

      • mf13ss says:

You pose a VERY good question. I’d like to see a race like this happen… especially for charity’s sake. That would be cool!

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      1. Grant plus he’s quick
      2. Stills but he’s much taller than Wilson and Grant and just as tall as Drake.
      3. Wilson plus he also has primo make-ya-miss wiggle
      4. Drake plus he’s 221 pounds and Alabama-tough
      5. Gesicki would not be embarrassed though, and can you imagine a 6’6 255 pound single-digit body-fat muscle-mass coming at you at 25mp?
      Horrifying.

      • son of a son of a shula says:

That’s exactly how I’d place it too. Drake and Gesicki would show strongly but the other 3 are freaky fast.

  14. naplesfan2010 says:

Pardon me, but where are those seats we have for the Fest again?
And where do I get my tickets?

(pls excuse me for seeming to leave out all of you great fans who are not going, but I have never been and just don’t want to be driving around Miami Gardens and getting lost in a dead-end in Norland asking everybody if they have overheard anyone named Stanger looking for a senile elder from the Rest Home in Naples.)

    • son of a son of a shula says:

Naples, you’ll get your tickets from Stanger either Friday night at Neptunes or on Saturday night at Dave and Busters.
      Send me an Email to
Johndibi@yahoo.com so we can exchange numbers and we can text.

    • stangerx says:

Naples seats are Sec 317, rows 10, 13 and 15 (that’s upperdeck on about the 40). Not gonna bring the tickets to Neptune….. will have at D&Bs and the tailgate. D&Bs is from 6-10 Sat nite in Hollywood.

“COUNTRY” Joe West blows a home run call in the Boston-Houston playoff game and it costs Houston 2 runs that would have tied the game!! Nutless replay officials in NY refused to overturn West’s obviously blown call–to the delight of advertisers who’d much rather see a Boston-LA World Series over a Houston-LA series. Well, I have NOT watched a single MLB game from start to finish so far this season, and this won’t be my first one, either!!

Asked Mrs. OD what she thought. She got up and changed the channel (after uttering an F-Bomb)!!! I’ll walk the doggies in a few minutes and hit the sack. This poorly officiated game does not appeal to me in the slightest!!

OUT for tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll watch hockey and/or Thursday Night Football.

well we’ll definitely find out how good osweiler is, what are the odds everyone will be calling for his head and want tannehill back over the next 2 weeks?

or for that matter what if he plays great? does Gase yank him for Thill?

Tanny doesn’t make the 2 point conversion! Unless he can somehow run it in!!!

But he wouldn’t have thrown that INT on the out either!

It’s not my opinion it’s the NFL’s opinion that Tanny is a starter and Brock is a back-up!

I don’t like comparing players because you shouldn’t have to tear someone down to build someone up!
    ——————————————–
I dont see that Tanny has to be torn down, he just has to be looked at objectively and you will see the flaws. I also am not trying to prop up or make Osweiler out to be more than he is, i just want something that changes the status quo around here. We have had 6 years of this build up let down build up let down shit with Tanny,

im not a Tanneyhater im a very frustrated Tannysanguinist. I have pulled for the guy, given second, third, fourth….. chances until im just burn out on this roller coaster ride he takes us on every flippin year. Right now i just had one of the most enjoyable games i have had in a while and it was Osweiler at the helm, its simple as that.

For our future’s sake, I am hoping whomever finish the year as our starter is replaced at sometime next year regardless of which it is. We need to stop putting the same shit out there and thinking there will be a difference. It hasnt happen yet, it isnt happening in the future. As someone (cant imagine who that was 🙂 ) said yesterday… Osweiler is who he is and Tanny is who he is. Neither one are starting QB’s worthy to be the QB for this team.

    • Rockphin says:

how was it an enjoyable game to watch for you? We were inept for 3/4’s of the game. 13 points going into the 4th down 21-13 and then watching them erase every lead we took until overtime? You enjoy that?

      • D says:

Take a 7-0 lead on the bears whom i thought would blow us off the field, and by any right should have. Watching our offense move the ball better than i had seen it plenty of other game, hell any other game this year. Watching the team dig in and fight out a tough win against a team that like i said, by all right should have destroyed us. Yeah i call that an enjoyable game. Winning in the face of an expected loss is always a good game.

      • D says:

We didnt just come from behind to win Rock, we did it on the bears who have a top 5 defense. We gave up no sacks to one of the best pass rushing teams in the NFL. We had a 100 yard rusher for the 1st time since last year against a team thats not allowed a 100 yard rusher all year. Again man, what game were you watching.

Grant, the shorter and lighter you are, the more distance makes a difference. If it was a shorter distance i might say Drake actually, but goal line to goal line, Grant all day.

Whoever they hired to evaluate is doing a much better job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Evil Genius backed his defense up a tad and made sure that we got NO YAC!

    NO YAC NO WIN!!!!!!

  39. D says:

Anyone notices last game Tankersly was out there quite a bit. I cant say i thought he played very well but i wasnt awful. Wonder if he is making his way out of the dog house or were we just so think that he was next man up. McTyer let his man get behind him a few times last game, but he was covering one of the fastest guys in the NFL. Other than that McTyer played really well. I think Tankersly is working himself towards being expendable, he needs to really step his game. I think the kid has a ton of potential but things are going great for him right now.

It’s about winning games not who plays. I am not a fan of Osweiler. He and Tanny are both so-so QBs. I am gonna see what Brock does moving forward. I hope he proves that he’s grown as a QB but just like Tanny…he needs to prove he can make plays when it matters week after week.

That’s what I was saying when other peeps were saying the offense looked so smooth and the best its looked all year. It was kind of reminiscent to the OAK game where we finally got rolling and then the razzle dazzle with the Wilson Effect. There were times when I thought CHI finally took over and we were going to lose. That’s what made the game so crazy and exciting because of how we got back in the game and how it ended. So much drama at the end.

What the evil genius was saying with that game plan is….your QB cant beat us.

    Ignorance ? Just raging bias?

Dear Siri here is playing six and seven defense of backs all games is daring to pass !? I guess it’s daring you to run saying you can’t Otherwise why have so many defense of backs on the field the entire game ?

  46. Tim Knight says:

Tankersley is only in his 2nd season. Too early to determine if he’s on his way out. But then again, who knows. Players get released out of nowhere all the time.

  47. Tim Knight says:

Chase Allen on IR due to that foot injury which obviously was worse than initially thought. Now we know why we signed LB Martrell Spaight last week. That sucks. Allen was a good backup LB who could play all three spots and he was a core STs player.

Rock just admit you have gone full homo for Tanny and get it over with. Its a lot easier to openly express these feeling instead of repressing them.

    • Tim Knight says:

How does this have anything to do with Tannehill? He’s posting the first 6 drives. We were down 21-13 heading into the 4th quarter. It’s not like we were scoring all day. The 4th quarter was wild and so was OT.

Be honest, at that point did you think we were going to win the game? The Bears had a TD nullified due to a penalty and the next play McDonald picked it off in the endzone. There were a lot of close calls in this game where CHI almost buried us but the defense came up big. They score there and it’s 28-13. We were not matching them on the scoreboard for most of the game. That’s why the fact that we won this game was so amazing.

      • D says:

The argument was “how was it an enjoyable game to watch for you?” I gave my explanation, you guys dont want to accept it because it doesnt fit your narrative. Tim you of all people constantly say thinkgs about games won by Tanny that were ugly wins were still wins and therefore were or at least should be enjoyable. You have spent countless hours of your life saying that Tanny was part of those wins. Now here you are on the opposite side of that argument negating that Osweiler was part of that win, and that it wasn’t enjoyable because we looked like we were going to lose most of the game.

Despite all the shit i posted above about seeing career games out of several players, despite it being our best offensive performance of the year and im sure if i looked it up, one of the best that we have had in a long ass time. Beating one of the best defenses while putting up the most offense they have had put on them, the most points they have had put on them, with the first RB to get 100 yards on them, with the first QB to get almost 400 yards on them, and you just go yeah, but we kinda backed into that win, and its all because of Wilson. If Tanny had done it you would be anointing him GOAT.

  51. D says:

Rock, the evil genius played his guys back for, and Wyoming said it in his post, to prevent the YAC which is what our offense is about. When you play more DB’s you are playing the underneath stuff heavier, and actually getting more run support because of it too. He knew Tanny couldn’t beat us with his arm. I am serious about that, but i did post that to twist a nipple, since you are trying to do the same i figured fair game.

  52. Tim Knight says:

D, about your 1:50 post, none of my posts have had anything to do with Tannehill or what you’re saying here. This is your narrative, not mine. I’m talking about how the Bears game went down. You’re the one that keeps interjecting Tannehill who didn’t play into it. You’re the one who can’t shake harping on Tannehill. So who has the bias here?

We had scored one TD on our 2nd drive of the game heading into the 4th quarter. I was not overly confident we were going to score again but then BOOM!!! Wilson goes off. It was awesome!

Albert Wilson is the main reason we won that game, and the defense with timely turnovers. Wilson is also the main reason we won the OAK game. I never said it was Tannehill other than that one TD pass he threw to Stills that got us back in it. To me Wilson has been MVP for two of our wins. But you keep telling me what I’ve said or what I would have said. You’re putting words in my mouth.

    • D says:

Ill be honest Tim, you interjected yourself into a conversation thats been going on between Rock and myself, Rock made it about Tanny bias and i threw his bais back at him. I wasnt even originally talking to rock about anything i was replying to Wyoming and Rock added his two cents about how could it be possible i could enjoy that game. It kinda has moved on to being about Tanny bias.

      • Tim Knight says:

No I replied to his original post about the drive summary as well and then I saw you accuse of him of going all homo for Tannehill off the same drive summary and wondered what does that have to do with Tannehill. Then you accused me of saying this and that about Tannehill. Why can’t you just discuss the Bears game as it was?

What Rock posted were the drive summary facts, not debatable.

      • D says:

Maybe its because i also listed facts about why the game was enjoyable and what i got in return was a partial game drive summary leaving out what he wanted to to make his point. Im not a fan of cherry picking the things you want to make your point, and a game can be exciting even if only one quarter was great. Hell we have had to be satisfied with that, or less, for years with this team.

  56. Tim Knight says:

D, remember days before the game we both discussed that this Bears game had nightmare written all over it. We both agreed this would be a tough one to win with Tannehill. Then when we found out he wouldn’t be playing I’m not sure there was some new confidence going in.

The thing that jumped out at me early in the game was the max protect and that we ran right at them and the OL and blocking was playing well. This was actually the game plan I discussed during the week about what we probably had to do to keep the Bears DEF from teeing off on us. I was surprised by how well we were executing it. The Bears were the top run defense and we were running on them from the get go.

I thought we’d have to win a low scoring game and at 7-0 at the half it had low scoring game written all over it. Now we know how wild it got but nobody saw that coming. You could not have scripted this game the way it went down. It all started up front in my eyes, not because Osweiler was doing anything spectacular. He was managing the game very well and getting the ball in our playmakers hands. He wasn’t overwhelming CHI with his arm and shredding them or anything. He did what he needed to do and that was awesome. We won the game and that’s all that mattered.

We have no idea how the game would have gone if Tannehill was in there but it doesn’t really matter because he didn’t play.

For me the keys to the win were:
    1. OL and up front blocking
    2. Wilson
    3. Timely turnovers by the DEF
    4. Osweiler
    5. Sanders

I would say the same thing if Tannehill was the QB and did the same exact thing. Wilson was MVP of the game but it couldn’t have happened without OL and up front blocking playing the way they did. They neutralized the Bears front 7 all day. Something none of us thought would happen.

Let’s hope we can continue with that because if we do we have the playmakers to break open games.

    • D says:

I agree with what you have said here. Thats why i probably got too much in the Tanny bias mud slinging because i dont dislike the guy and yet im being accused of it. I have lost any belief that he can win without doing the same things we did for Osweiler to help him be successful, however.

Neither of these guys are what we should be satisfied to have as our QB, but as i said in a post yesterday, thats to be settled next year. Right now i just felt like we had a nice game, and one that i enjoyed more than i have any others this year. The convo started like that and degraded. I felt it was a quality win, and i would just like to see us have a few more. If thats with Osweiler great if its with Tanny great. When the off season rolls around, we can make the preparations for how we bring in a QB to give us a better starting option.

      • Tim Knight says:

        Cool!

I have no issue with trying to upgrade at QB in the offseason. Even if that means he sits behind Tannehill depending on how this season finishes with him. Who knows when he’ll play again. But if his injury is more serious than it appears at this time, or if and when he gets back in there and he doesn’t play well enough, or the fact that he’ll be 31 next season and all the factors above, nothing wrong with trying to get another QB to challenge him.

The problem with releasing him or trading him next year is his salary and cap hit – $26.6M salary and $13.4M cap hit. 2020 is the year we can move on with a $5.5+M cap hit. That’s how I think we’ll handle it. I don’t see a team trading for him with those contract numbers, his prior knee issue which hasn’t been an issue so far, and now the shoulder injury. Then the fact that we’re looking to move on from him. That’s too many red flags for a team to give up anything of value for him. Unless a team is willing to take on the contract status and we’re willing to take a mid or low round pick just to move on. I really don’t see that happening though.

Either way this team needs a QB of the future. That QB isnt on the roster. IMO

  58. stangerx says:

Lions are 3 point favorites at the Rock and at the Fest. That’s not a lot of respect.

  59. pheloniusphish says:

Just re-watched the Bears game. There was definitely a different look and feel to it. It never felt like it was out of control, even when they jumped out to 21-10 so fast. Miami was moving up and down the field. Did they get two big plays from Wilson? Hell yeah! That’s why he was signed.

As for Detroit being favored, I don’t know why. They beat New England early before NE got it together, then they beat a not very good Packers team with a gimpy Rodgers. I think Miami is 8-2 going into the bye.

    • Tim Knight says:

I think it’s because of our OL and blocking in both pass pro and on the ground. We controlled the Bears front 7 all day. I did feel like we were going to lose when the Bears scored going up 28-13 but it was called back on a penalty, and then McDonald picks it off in the endzone. I thought we were done on that drive.

      • ElephantRider says:

2 HUGE goal line turnovers in that game could easily have been a blowout

      • steveccnv says:

Playmakers make plays, that’s why they’re on the roster.

      • Tim Knight says:

That’s what I’m saying. If Howard doesn’t fumble before the half on the goal line it’s tied 7-7 and the Bears came out hot in the 2nd half. It could have been 28-10 and 35-13 very easily. Our defense has been very good with timely turnovers. They do give up too many yards but they come through in big spots. Without those turnovers we’re not 4-2.

This team overall still has plenty to clean up. But like I said before the season started, if this team can scratch and claw its ways to some early victories which we have done, then maybe as the team builds more chemistry and now gets some key players back from injury, maybe we can go on a roll.

  60. ElephantRider says:

That’s one thing this defense has vastly improved on. They are taking away the ball with regularity. Now if they can stop those wide open WRs running around, they will be on their way to being really good. Future is bright with this young group.

Defense has been solid at all levels. Maybe a player here or there that still needs some work but thy seem to be improving each game which is what you need to expect from Rookie and young players who have never played before. They have scored for us, gotten crucial turnovers and kepts us in a lot of games.

    • Tim Knight says:

The defense hasn’t scored yet. STs has 2 TDs though.

    • ElephantRider says:

      Yeah man.
I still think they arent pressuring the QB enough for all the touted DEs we have. I think it’s just a matter of time tho.

      • Tim Knight says:

What I’m seeing is the DTs aren’t getting enough pressure consistently up the middle. Quinn is flying around the edge and QBs are stepping up on him. If they can’t step up more often Quinn probably has 5-6 sacks. Other DEs might have more too.

      • D says:

I have been watching them a good bit and Man Quinn is off and around them so fast but he is coming around the corner so low the OT’s are just shoving him down to the ground. He is going to find a guy pretty soon, though, thats not going to get him and he is going to kill that QB because he is coming for them hard every play.

The only one i havent seen a lot of is Wake, he hasnt really stood out much. Hayes was killing it early on, but he’s gone. Harris is getting pressures but no hits or sacks, so i think its a matter of time and he will start giving us some sacks. Woodard looked good before he got hurt (is he out long term?). Malveaux has shown up a decent bit too.

      • D says:

Yeah Tim i agree, Quinn is making it around the OT’s but the QB’s arent pushed back enough in the pocket for him to get them and the OTs are just riding him to the ground.

  69. Tim Knight says:

D, yeah Quinn is trying to reach around but there’s nothing there. If we can collapse that pocket some more inside he’ll get more hits, sacks and strip fumbles.

Wake has missed two games so we haven’t even seen him recently. No Harris last week and it sounds like not this week either. Woodward is in concussion protocol so no idea how long he’s out. Branch is coming off of the knee injury that kept him out of two games so maybe he gets it going soon. We got to get some of these DEs back healthy.

It sounds like McCain is ready to come back at corner though. We could use him and let McTyer sub. McCain and Wake both practiced two days in a row which is a good sign.

    • ElephantRider says:

Quinn has definitely been the most active guy out there.

      • D says:

He’s doing as much as he can, he’s a speed rush guy, he doesn’t have a lot of success with power moves, and without help from the DT’s collapsing the pocket and flushing those guys to the back, he isnt going to get many sacks unless the QB’s just hold on to it too long.

I dont think i have ever seen a guy round the corner as low as Quinn though, he has incredible technique.

      • D says:

I thought Wake got low around the corner, but Quinn is on a whole other level with that move.

      • Tim Knight says:

Quinn is doing what he’s supposed to do. Fast edge rushing on the blind side. We need the DTs to get more pressure up the middle to keep the QB in Quinn’s range. We’re allowing QBs to move around too much. We need to keep them in the pocket more often.

  70. Rockphin says:

I guess calling someone a Homo isn’t a personal and then you accuse me of attacking your sexuality when you threw it down first

    • D says:

Would be if i actually was calling you a homo…. You have made worse jokes. Again, sorry, i didn’t realize you were a thin skinned little girl, i know i have to tread softly around you now. BTW if you dont want people to make you cry stop doing to others what you dont like done to you.

    • D says:

Oh and i dont consider what you said as an attack on my sexuality, im just saying if that was your lame ass attempt at one, it wont bother me. Im secure, maybe when you figure out what yours is you can be secure too.

  71. Rockphin says:

The defense certainly has been opportunistic in fortunate moments! Thank god too They did say last year and before the season that they wanted to be an attacking defense anymore and they have been. Too bad the defense of line hasn’t been getting as many sacks But like I said to MF13 last night sometimes pressures pay off more than sacks.

  72. The Flying Pig says:

There is no blog fighting during fest week guys

  73. Rockphin says:

We’re allowing QBs to move around too much. We need to keep them in the pocket more

Tim, agreed on this but don’t you think the DT’s are doing a better job this year of clogging up the middle and not allowing OL to get on our linebackers in the run defense ?

    • Tim Knight says:

Yes in run defense the DTs are doing a nice job. We need a little more pass rush from them though. Not sacks but pressure to not allow the QBs to step up. That could really change the level of our defense.

      • Rockphin says:

I’m not sure if that was just a product of the focus. meaning the defensive coordinator doesn’t want them pushing up field on certain play calls? I can’t answer that from just watching we don’t know what the play design really is Just what it looks like

  74. Rockphin says:

    D. you were being a piece of shit so you can fuck off

I didnt mean anything bad so im not sorry because there isn’t anything to be sorry for. I completely agree with you on this he was studley. I pointed out yesterday how he really helped and one game as well as his timely catches

  77. Rockphin says:

They say it takes a while for a tight end to transition from college to the NFL so I am not giving up on Gisicki and Smythe yet but I was hoping for more from them. Or rather I should say I will be patient and hope they do better next year like they’re supposed to, but I was hoping for sooner

    • Tim Knight says:

It does usually take some time because they are asked to do a lot. O’Leary was a blessing to be available after losing two TEs, one in Gray for the season and Derby who was somewhat active before going down for I don’t know how long. Hopefully at some point in the 2nd half of the season Gesicki and Smythe bring more to the table. Specifically Gesicki as another receiving option. It looks like O’Leary will also be our FB option which is the position he was playing when he caught the TD.

About that shuttle. Seems like we will need to check out of the hotel before going to the game (of course) which means … what to do with my vehicle if not driving it to the game?

If I decide to drive myself, do I need a parking pass or can I just pay at the gate and park wherever?

    👀📈🔼

    • Tim Knight says:

I posted this the other day. Like night and day. Good thing too or we could easily be 2-4 or even 1-5. Many of those turnovers allowed us to get back in games. Take that away along with Wilson’s prowess in the OAK and CHI game and we lose both of those games. Howard’s pick in the Jets game helped prevent them from mounting a comeback. They score there, who knows how the rest of that games plays out being we didn’t score in the 2nd half.

We have scratched and clawed to get to 4-2 and we basically stole two games from OAK and CHI. It’s time to start playing more consistently throughout a game. I can’t see us winning like this the rest of the season. But maybe we will keeping us fans freaking out every week. LOL

  82. Rockphin says:

Another thing that was good last week and aided in winning was there was surprisingly much better discepline on the O line. Only one false start and no holding penalities. A BS offensive pass interference call was the only time the zebras stopped the flow of last weeks game when our offense was on the field. Either the Zebras were turning a blind eye and letting them play or the Oline was on point there as well.

    • Rockphin says:

Oh, one delay of game too.

    • Tim Knight says:

Yeah is wasn’t a fundamentally sloppy game. They did kind of let them play. Every time we made a play to get back in the game I was waiting for the flag and it really didn’t happen. I’m glad that wasn’t the reason for the outcome for either team. Let the game be played fairly.

  83. Rockphin says:

Surprising because they were facing what has been a dominate D line.

    • Tim Knight says:

We caught them off guard from the get go and they looked frustrated. I think they felt they were going to feed on defense all day. That’s life in the NFL. A lot of guys up front stepped up. 🙂

THE CHEF’s specialty on Sunday will be “cooked Lion,” served WELL DONE, OF COURSE!!
That bear meat tasted awfully good last week. Betcha well done Lion meat will taste just as good!
I’m predicting Fins will win for the 7th consecutive home game I’ve attended by a score of 30-17. Mrs. OD says “Fins 24-7.” Let the predictions roll on!

    • stangerx says:

LOL OD — if only season ticket holders only get orange passes why do I have four on my desk? 🙂 And you gave away your extra last year to fauxUKphin…. who liked it enough he bought one of those four for Sunday.

And tailgate is just food — BYOB. Good advice on the rest…. except cooked lion is only in the stadium. Chef Wa’s main feature is smoked prime rib.

HEY TIM KNIGHT: Let’s say the Fins finish 9-7 or 10-6 and pick around #18-22 or so. WHAT POSITION(s) should they be looking at to fill with their first round pick in the 2019 draft?? Remember, the proposed pick should reasonably BE AVAILABLE for Miami to select in the lower half of round 1.

MF-13, YOU CAN PLAY, too, as well as anyone else.

A big physical WR like Devante Parker… oh wait a minute

    • Ken says:

Truthfully RG or Center are the biggest needs then DL

    • Tim Knight says:

Tough to say at this time until we know who will be available, how they grade out and what we do in FA. Looking at the makeup of this team with youth and some of our contracts and at what positions they play. QB is always an option if one is there. OL with starter potential even if as depth early on. James will be a UFA so tackle is on the table. I always look at DT, edge rusher and CB. WR could be an option if Parker doesn’t pick it up and we rescind his 5th year option. A prospect at any position who falls that has too much upside to pass on.

      • Rockphin says:

        Soooooo BPA? LOL

      • Tim Knight says:

        You know me. LOL

I always feel that way in the 1st rd. It’s a chance at the best of the draft pool. You can add good prospects at need in the 2nd and 3rd and even after that. At the end of the day, they all might need some time to develop. Nothing is a given.

Also FA is usually used to patch needs who are ready to play. Unless you target a player like Suh etc. I don’t think this regime is about that anymore.

  86. Rockphin says:

OD, I guess we should trade our 1st, 2nd, 3rd and next years 1st & 2nd to move up and get Ryan Finley….

  87. Tim Knight says:

As far as next year’s draft, I think a lot has to do with how some of our young players who are still developing and trying to find their way finish the season. For instance, Gore may walk away after this year and next year it could be Drake and Ballage. But do we have to go RB 1st rd, maybe if a back with a high grade falls to us for some reason. But we could also add a solid back in the mid rounds to compliment those two.

It’s difficult to look at the draft in October to me. The college season isn’t finished and things can change. See Jaylon Smith and Myles Jack. We don’t know what will happen.

However I like our current LBing core moving forward. Lots of speed and two young guys still progressing and looking to get better. Alonso is the vet of the group and he’s balling this year and still young enough moving forward. Depth would be cool, but LB is not a need.

  88. mf13ss says:

    Mr. Campbell,

First… I hope you ALL have a GRAND time at the Fest this year! May your lucky streak — coupled with the crew — bring us another victory on Sunday!

Second… I know many won’t agree with what I’m about to say, but it’s the truth: I’m actually ‘Switzerland’ when it comes to Tannehill. I try to show the GOOD of Tannehill to his haters, and the BAD of Tannehill to his lovers.

THAT being stated, I think we now know what Tannehill is after roughly 6.5 seasons: a middling and decent QB who runs hot and cold. I think he’s a quality starter when healthy (yes… he now has an injury history), but he’s never been enough to carry us on his shoulders. He’s certainly not a part of the problem any more than he is the solution.

I say, IF we are in decent position to get a QB we feel will be a difference maker for a generation… trade up in ’19 to get that QB in the 1st round. That’s my answer as of NOW. Perhaps Tannehill lights it up when he comes back, and we don’t go QB in the 1st round… we’ll see! It’s a bit too early for me to call position and round in the ’19 Draft… but dammit I’m watching CFB! 😀

    • Tim Knight says:

That’s fair enough and how it should be looked at. You can also find a good QB in other rounds. It does happen. I’m curious what we have in Luke Falk. He has a lot of intangibles but he’s not a blue chip prospect. Neither was Tom Brady or Kurt Warner. But guys like that do fall through the cracks and sometimes the light goes on. He will have this season to watch and learn from the sidelines and in the meetings to get himself healthy and more prepared to compete in 2019. The fact that Gase is excited to work with him next spring moving forward is enough for me to be intrigued.

Lou’s guy C.J. Beathard is another guy who fits into that mold. I dropped Tannehill and picked him up in FF for this week with Aaron Rodgers on the bye and Tannehill likely out. I liked what I saw of him in the game against GB. He looked like the game wasn’t too big for him and also has intangibles without blue chip skills. Sometimes you find a QB who just plays smart and you can win with them regardless of draft projection. Joe Montana was a 3rd rd pick. It happens.

  90. mf13ss says:

    KID KEENUM to SANDERS!!!

    • Tim Knight says:

Bro, Keenum is not playing all that well this year. 3 of the Broncos TDs have nothing to do with him in this game. The Cardinals are awful and are likely drafting top 3 in 2019 and Josh Rosen is learning the hard way. Maybe he’ll learn that cocky is not the way of the NFL when you’re not all that. Man the NFL will humble you.

  91. Rockphin says:

Seriously though, preference of first round pick if things were all equal and it fell properly with value, etc would be to fill the other CB position for the next 5 years

    • Tim Knight says:

I’m liking what McCain was bringing before he went down. He’s a baller. We re-signed him and he became a starter over just a nickel because he earned it. We were a top pass defense before Jones and he went down. McTyer and Tankersley are not on his level. When we have all our top guys in the secondary healthy we’re better than we are now. Both have missed two games so far at different times.

When we have Howard, McCain and Fitz at corner, with Jones and McDonald at S it’s a whole different ball game.

That said, more talent at corner I’m always for, but I’m not looking for a starter if these guys are good to go.

  92. Rockphin says:

I want our Defense to be the reason why the NFL trends away from the current trend. LOL No fly zone.

  93. Rockphin says:

I love watching McCane or Howard running the route better than the WR.

    • Tim Knight says:

That’s the thing, they prepare and get what’s going on. Minkah brought a whole new dimension to the secondary and we’ve been forced to put too much on his plate with injuries and he’s been solid. In time he’s going to start making his presence felt even more. I really believe that. We need those 5 on the field in nickel and dime. They make a difference.

Case is learning with a new team, a new OC, a new playbook, new receivers, new O-Line, etc, etc. You do realize that this is Case’s 3rd team in 3 seasons, right? Hey, I’m his ‘agent’, okay?!! 😉

Seriously, Case is going to be just fine. Yeah, he hasn’t started out too well thus far, but he’s starting to finally gel with his new team, man! 🙂

    • Tim Knight says:

I get all that. You just seem to pick your spots with praising him because you’re a fan. If he doesn’t play within himself he gets himself in trouble. He sometimes acts like a pitcher that has a 95 MPH fastball when it’s only 88 serving one up at 3-2. This game is now out of hand because ARZ is awful, not because of Keenum. Just some reality here. The Broncos lost 4 in a row because of that before this game. I know his stats are solid other than 8 TD/8 INT as of now. But he’s so close to having thrown 3 or 4 more INTs because of what I said. He needs to settle down, not this game because all they have to do now is hand it off on offense and tee off on defense for a half. LOL

For the record, I like Case, just play your game and don’t try to do too much. That’s when he gets in trouble. That’s all I’m saying. When you don’t have an elite QB, that’s what you need from your QB. I always feel he’s right there and then he throws it up for grabs trying to do too much. Stop it! LOL

  95. mf13ss says:

    WEAK CALL!!!

  96. mf13ss says:

Tim, these Broncos are just now starting to hit their stride… and I’m not talking about this game that’s on right now. Without looking at their future schedule, I’d say they’re going to go on a tear.

  97. naplesfan2010 says:

    Thanks Manitoba.
Am leaning toward driving myself to the game.

  98. Tim Knight says:

Wow Josh Rosen, not so easy is it. Be humble young lad. LOL

  99. ElephantRider says:

So Ken wants to draft a bag of chips again? LOL

  100. Randy says:

I really doubt we’ve seen the last of Tanny. Osweiler will most likely not be able to sustain his level of play from last week. Tanny will be back in the saddle sooner or later. I hope we keep running like we did last week. That will make life a lot easier.
