Halfway there. It ain’t pretty folks. We started out 3-1, and we all had some hope for a successful season. After all, seasons are broken up into 4 game quarters, and we were somehow a winning team after those first 4, although the crushing loss to the New England Patriots was a wake up call that not all was sunshine in Miami. We started out the first 4 scoring 82 points, and surrendering 90 points, with nearly half of those 90 points coming against New England (38-7). In the next 4 games, the Dolphins have gone 1-3, to even it up at 4-4. In these next 4 games, we scored a little more, 92 points, but surrendered far more, 129 points, with the points given up each consecutive game getting worse, 27, 28, 32, and then 42 this past week to the Texans. Not a good trend!
Although a 4-4 record may indicate a team that can do as much right as they can do wrong, unfortunately for our team, I feel it’s not like that at all. I see us spiraling downward, which incidentally may end up in our favor if we want to draft one of the top QB’s next season, and IMO this has now become a necessity. The QB that can lead us to great things, hope for playoffs and more, is NOT currently on the roster. Unless Ryan Tannehill gets healthy and shows us another gear that he hasn’t yet brought to the table, he’s not the guy. Unless Brock Osweiler shows he can consistently make good accurate throws, he’s not our guy. Both are flawed, and neither is a championship caliber QB.
The next item is our current HC. When he was hired, Adam Gase was considered one of the great, young, offensive minded coaches available. Make no mistake, he truly was highly regarded and sought after, and I thought he may be the guy to bring our offense to new heights. It seems as if he elevated Ryan Tannehill’s play, but unfortunately, the way he accomplished that is with a balanced attack offense, and a “make no mistakes” short passing attack. Bill Belichick said “OK, I’ll just counter your smaller, faster WR’s with nickel, dime and quarter packages, let’s see you beat that!” Well, we couldn’t. Did he find a way to make TE Mike Gesicki make all those smaller DB’s pay? No. Did Frank Gore and Kenyan Drake run all over the smaller DB’s? No. Gase had no answer for that strategy, and now it’s not even the offense that is the current issue, it’s the defense.
In the first 4 games, our defense took the ball away 10 times, while our offense turned it over 6 times, a +4 TO differential. Each game, however, our yardage allowed total began to swell, 336 yards in the win against the Titans, only 257 against the Jets, but 434 yards against the Raiders, and then 449 against the Patriots. The next 4 is where it really starts to get ugly, and the turnovers that kept us in the win column dried up, but the opposing team’s yardage continues to increase.
In Game of 1 of the 2nd quarter of games, we lost to the Bengals, losing the turnover battle 3-1, while allowing a modest 332 total yards. We turned it over 3 times, and forced 3 turnovers by the Bears, and won the game in OT, though allowing a hefty 467 yards, granted, this was with an extra 9:57 in OT. Against the Lions, neither team turned the ball over, but we did manage to give up once again over 400 yards on defense, 457 to be exact. We then got shellacked by the Texans, turning it over once while not managing to get a single turnover (or defensive stop!) against the Texans. 427 yards, and 42 points.
After 8 games, we’re scoring 21.8 PPG (174), and we’ve allowed 27.4 PPG (219). We have forced 14 turnovers while giving it up 13 times. After the first 3 games, we were 8-4. Everything is getting worse, forcing HC Adam Gase to really sit down and look at everything, in an attempt to “fix” these problems. I’m writing “angry”, so take all of this for what it’s worth, but shouldn’t he be trying to “fix” the problems every week? This defense has been pathetic, surrendering tons of yards to our opponents, and now we’re also allowing tons of points too. Our offense simply can’t keep up with that, we play too careful and calculated, and now with playmaker Albert Wilson on IR, the guy who turns a lateral or 2-5 yard forward passes into 50-60-70 + yard TD plays gone, how will we score TD’s?
This is part and parcel why I can’t bear to think the Miami Dolphins are going to force Ryan Tannehill down our throats for yet another failure of a season. The NFL has changed, it’s getting closer to Arena football, except that you can’t really hit the offensive players. It’s a WIDE OPEN game, shootouts, and we play small ball. Teams are hitting HR’s everywhere, and we’re bunting guys over looking to scratch out a run. If it’s Tannehill, or Osweiler, or Fales that are holding this offense back, CUT them! If it’s Adam Gase that just doesn’t have the right field general at QB, then FIND him! Don’t insult us by going with the status quo, and telling us you’re going to “fix” the problem. I watch a lot of football, I have the NFL Sunday ticket, and it’s blindingly clear that we cannot compete in this NFL as currently constituted. We need a gunslinger, and we need DE’s that can pressure opposing QB’s.
11 sacks folks. E-L-E-V-E-N. 8 games, 11 sacks. That’s beyond anemic. It’s the DT’s and the DE’s, but I’d prefer to blame the DE’s mostly. (( Paging Charles Harris!)) (( Paging Charles Harris?)) Doesn’t matter who does the drafting for us, can ANYONE please identify a pass rusher? Robert Quinn? HELLLOOOOOOO! Did Quinn shoot his load in the preseason? He was unstoppable! Peaked too soon? Don’t blame Cam Wake, he’s just about 37 years old, and probably should be a role player now, not a starting DE. What happened to Cordrea Tankersley? He seemed to progress last season, and can we please end the Bobby McCain on the boundary please? If you put McCain back in the slot, at least that’s 2 spots (Howard/MCain) that are competent.
The Jets come to town being outscored in the last 2 games 61-27. I’ve got the remedy for that! The Dolphins have been outscored 74-44. That should even the playing field some. I’m seeing far too many similarities between Joe Philbin and Adam Gase. Hey, when you win the AFC East every year for a freaking century like Bill Belichick has, you can cut whoever the heck you want with minimal blowback. Adam Gase, he doesn’t have that cachet, nor does he deserve to at this point. He seems to have identified the players he likes, and has jettisoned the ones he doesn’t, but having success while doing so helps your cause. We’re spiraling downward, and while it’s possible the Jets offer us a brief respite, the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau will not, and either will the Colts, who are scoring 29 PPG.
Game 9, and it’s hard to find one thing that we do really well. ST’s have been one of our best units, Matt Haack averaging 45.7 yards, and rookie Jason Sanders 9 of 10 in FG’s, of course along with Jakeem Grant with a punt return and kick return for TD’s. Gase has a lot of work to do, and I hope he has his scouts looking far and wide for our next QB, that is if he’s still here to see it through. Most likely he will be given some latitude.
So, on to the Jets. Sam Darnold has been “eh”. Jeremy Bates and Todd Bowles do not an offensive juggernaut make. Bowles is a defensive minded coach, and Bates hasn’t been an OC since back in 2010 for SEA, he’s been an assistant coach all these years (QB coach). Darnold has thrown for 1705 yards, 11 TD’s and 10 INT’s. The Jets had to put RB Bilal Powell on IR with a neck injury, which leaves Isaiah Crowell as the feature back, with Trenton Cannon and De’Angelo Henderson as depth. Losing Powell really hurts the Jets, he usually saved a lil something for us in our clashes. Robbie Anderson occasionally supplies some fireworks, but it’s a pretty boring offense most times with Quincy Enunwa (Jarvis Landry) and Terrelle Pryor and Jermaine Kearse. The Jets recently signed Rishard Matthews, so maybe Rishard will get an opportunity to take out his frustrations on our defense.Jets defense has been just about mid-pack, nothing to get excited about.
My prediction? After all the thinking and analyzing in an attempt to remedy what has been ailing us, Gase finds a way to win against another struggling team this week. I think we win this one by about 4 or 5 points, no score prediction, I have no idea what team we’ll see on either side of the ball.

LOL ER, yep it’s all Ross’ fault. We were high flying before he took over as majority owner.
He messed up the ever popular Parcells regime that he inherited.
It’s all about perception, and reality and facts don’t really matter anymore. If we run a bad play, you know Ross had his hand in it. LOL
I didn’t win the Powerball….. fucking Ross!!
LOL
Same here, and I spent like 8 bucks giving it a go. He owes me. LOL
Damn – Need to check my numbers.
TIME OUT!!
No one here has any agenda to run anyone off the board. We all spew our opinions, and sometimes engage one another or challenge one another, but no one is trying to get rid of anyone. No need to accuse anyone of that sort of thing, I don’t see that happening, and if you have strong things to say, and are challenged, well it’s up to you to either meet that challenge, or slink away if you don’t. That’s all I’ve seen here, not taking any sides. I get that differing opinions rub the wrong way, but we’re all just discussing our feelings and opinions, and trying to back them up.
Mike, I appologize, you can stay.
^ meanie!
Who ran Home off ???
Dude we had out out, dont back down now. 🙂 Nah, id miss that old geezer too much.
I dont know if Tim ran him off, but i know that Home still brings Tim up when i have seen his posts either on !3KV’s page or palm beach post comments and such.
Nah, Tim and Home are best friends!
Stanger probably ran Home off, we know how much he likes putting people in their place! 🙂
I just noticed that this Ghost Stormtrooper avatar kinda looks like a clan hood….and thats not good when your from Mississippi.
It actually reminds me of a haunted tree, but yeah, I kinda see the KKK angle there.
LOL — and everyone’s place is a seat at Hardrock for the Fest. 🙂
I was once told I had no credibility because I questioned Tannehill. I figured if I just stuck around long enough I’d earn my street cred back! 😎
Ahhh, stick to the trenches! 😉
I don’t think T Hill is the best QB in the league and I don’t think he’s the worst either, I strongly believe that this teams lack of production squarely rest on the coaches and their philosophy.
Not only their philosophy but their lack of intelligence in certain situations.
with the same players and a different HC i believe this team could be good
At this point, I would have to agree.
Mike – That stuff doesn’t bother me. Just shows a vulnerability to be exploited.
LOL — That’s pretty upfront about it, and we each have our own way. Was good to meet you and your bro.
I think Home was the instrument of his own demise.
If Gase could get around his own ego, he might be a decent coach. He hasn’t shown that he can do that to this point. I have been a Gase supporter, but that pass on 4th and half a yard pushed me over the edge.
For me, my support has started to waver since the 3rd and 1 at Cincinnati.
Funny thing is, Packer fans here are complaining about McCarthy not sticking with the run……but then they have Rodgers.
What I wouldn’t do to have an Aaron Rodgers.
Covers up a lot of warts…..
We need to draft our own Aaron Rodgers, or at least something close. Maybe Gase would trust that QB to throw passes beyond 5 yards.
Funny thing is, Rodgers dropped to the Packers, like Marino did to the Dolphins. Sometimes, and maybe it is somewhat rare, you can find that guy who has “it” outside the top 10 in the draft.
Absolutely Bookman, was thinking that myself. Odds are we probably won’t be in the top 10, but it may not matter. Identify the guy you want, and this coming draft, while it doesn’t seem as if there are more than 1 top QB prospects, we still should be able to get one w/o trading up in the first round.
M – Dolphins signed DT Sylvester Williams. There’s your big boy, 6’2″ 328
We’ll see what happens, but am guessing Fat Albert also got a look over. Hoping he surprises.
Listen, we’re just plugging holes right now. Real shame Taylor is gone for the season, he was having an impressive sophomore season. He looks good for the future though, and I like Godchaux a lot too. If getting rid of Suh accomplished anything, it gave us a good long look at both of those guys, and both are keepers for sure. We need to improve our depth there next year, and also need to find young talent at DE.
All we can do is plug the holes…..we got decimated in the middle of the trenches on both sides and Harris too. Even if felt better about the depth, few teams are built to withstand all the losses we’ve had.
I wanted to draft him years ago
As I recall he went to North Carolina
Stanger – What’s sad is 4 of our 11 sacks are on IR. Quinn, Harris, especially Harris who is now entering my shit-list, and Wake, all better start producing. Charles Harris, 3 solo tackles, 8 assists, no sacks, 1 TFL, 1 QB hit. He was a first round pick why?
Our offensive production with Osweiler, Tanny, Cutler and Moore was basically the same….around 21-23 points a game. The QB made very little difference. That tells me two things. One: all those QBs are basically the same level of player. Two: the coaching and offensive gameplan is what is holding us back. So, unless we find a better QB or start doing something different on offense, we’ll be seeing the same production.
I agree
And honestly I think we should do both
I agree with this too Randy – My feeling is Adam Gase doesn’t (hasn’t) trusted any of his QB’s at this point, and is calling a “safe” game plan. It’s very hard to watch sometimes.
Good call. While RT may not be the be-all-end-all, he doesn’t design or call the plays. Those 3-5 yard passes and wide receiver screens are designed by the coaches who then call the plays.
I think its both and i think we probably should do both.
Stanger – I am what I am. 20 or so years of being a tactical interrogator leaves one with certain tendencies.
It was good to meet all the crew at the Fest. Had a blast despite the game.
LOL !!
And he learned how to wax cars, which eventually lead to a brilliant career in detailing (they dont show oyu this flash forward in the movie, but it happened).
That was a given since he can’t throw yet. I guess he could have made Rob happy by just handing it off to Gore, but . . .
let Brock do the handing off, i’m good with that.
Wasn’t Home banned here for saying something way out of line?
IMO he could have gotten banned for any number of reasons, the constant asshole attitude, the repetitive arguments, the constant trolling, the looney tunes schitzo personas. Take your pick. There was a lot of build up to his departure.
So who drove someone off the blog?
MF13 accused Phelon of trying to run folks off in his cryptic passive aggressive manner.
How would he run people off?

Holy shit there is a actual job like that…. That sounds liek an amazing way to get paid lol
a tactical interrogator also goes by the name waterboarder
I dunno why anyone one would have to waterboard someone, just play this song on loop and the information will come out.
LOL, I think they do use certain types of music during standoffs to force the perps out.
With Brock having all this playing time and being serviceable i bet he gets a better offer next year from someone. i don’t think he’s responsible for the losses i think it was more a lack of defense.
Come on man! The narrative is the QB is a fault not the Defense!
More specifically it is Tannehill’s fault.
Here is another one
LOL – I always consider this the Six Flags theme song.
This would drive them out for sure. Holy fuck!!! LOL
There’s music playing?

Apologies… not ALL have been run off the board… but you’re trying your very best to do so.
The good news is we may get Stills back and it is great to have a healthy Parker.
My wife’s grandmother had a house in Brooklyn, and they had a Dentist that sublet the basement apartment. Tiny Tim was a patient, and the first time he went to the Dentist, he rang the ground floor bell incorrectly, and when my wife’s grandma answered the door, he said in his typical high pitched voice really loud “DEEEEEEEEENNNNNTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIST”. She said you have to go downstairs, and she thought he was “meshuganah”. LOL That means crazy in Yiddish
know a few around here that should change their handle to “meshuganah”
LOL – It would be easier to find the ones who shouldn’t.
You guys have it all wrong. It’s not QB or coaching. Its Ross. Duh. We need an owner like Al Davis was or Jerry Jones. Those guys know/knew how to draft, scheme, and fill the roster with 3 starting OL per position…
Well Ross is responsible for the coach, and the coach is responsible for the QB, so its like 2 degree’s of Ross’ Bacon. Im pretty sure i can make him responsible for the El Nino effect if i think on it hard enough.
There are also a bunch of shmok’s/putz’s around here.
And knuckleheads all.
It’s schmuck, you putz!
Schmuck is the person, shmok is what its derived from….come on super jew!
what’s the difference between a schmuck and a putz?
Answer: 4 Inches! LOL
lol
D – I’m no super jew. Just a regular jew. I make no claims to know the religion, the language or anything better than anyone else.
Lol i know im just messin with ya,
Glad you ain’t that Mike E, with all respect to those who are. Tough life. First wife’s step-father was Orthodox. On top of everything else, big never tell secret was yes he drove to services on Saturday, parked 3 blocks away and walked the rest.
shmeckle
What i love about a lot of yiddish words, you have no problem telling if the word seems good or not. Like this one, you just feel that this is almost a insulting way to call something tiny. lol.
Ross is a shriveled up old Shmeckle, shriveled up old shmeckles are on old white men, old white men make up the ultra rich 1%, the ultra rich 1% are at the root of all bad things in the world, natural disasters are bad things, therefore Ross is responsible for all natural disasters.
Make that Tiny Tim story is one of the most horrific stories i have ever heard. If i opened the door and that freak just yelled ““DEEEEEEEEENNNNNTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIST” at me, i would have been scarred for life. That also sounds like the best trick or treat prank ever.
LOL @ ORob’s Waterboarder. Funny thing is the only time we ever saw one was when we were on it at SERE school. CIA was a different story. They would come to us for a couple weeks of training, then go out and do everything we told them not to do. Like Abu Grahb.
LOL @ Rossbacon….
I believe you are right D. We can find 7 degrees of Ross to blame everything on.
If he could deliver a fuckin’ sack or two, that would be nice.
Lol
Phelon — flew out of KW airport on Monday. Wife had us booked to MIA but noticed Silver and Spirit to Lauderdale. How dependable are they….. and main reason ask is one of them was supposed to leave at like 2 and still hadn’t left when we did at 7.
Small!
We left and arrived on time!
https://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/20181031/devante-parker-happy-miami-dolphins-didnt-trade-him
Stanger – Spirit is a new flight out of KW, so I don’t know how reliable they are, yet. Silver is routinely late leaving, but they usually leave. As long as you’re not trying to make a connnection it’s okay.
Thanks — would have much preferred FLL, but then “they usually leave” says something about the other side of the trade off too. 🙂
De nada
Here you go D – Mogadishu, Somalia 2015. Me and my Uber.
Well shit. I still can’t get pictures to work.
If you were going to play music to torture me, I think anything made in the last 5 years would do it
There is some good stuff out there but you have to find it. You like Zep right? These young cats are starting to heat up. They’re a bear bones rock band with a Zep flavor for sure.
Definitely a Zeppelin feel to it, nice!
Pretty good Tim. I was digging that.
Yeah guys, check them out. Many more tunes.
Me and you both. My favorite was always the little girl crying for daddy to save her or the baby crying.
Although I like Halestorm, 3 Days Grace, generally the metal genre. Country has gone to shit…
I like some of the music that’s out there. I’m old, so it’s harder for me to be accepting of some new music, but I dig some stuff I hear.

—————-
YAY! Thanks for posting this! 🙂
Seems the Lions cut Sylvester after they upgraded, trading for Damon Harrison of the G-Men last week. He’s played NT, DT, and DE in the past. He also played for the Broncos when Adam Gase was with them.
I hope Sylvester can be productive with us in a change of scenery. At the very least, he should be able to clog some gaps and demand some double-teams. Good addition to our D-Line rotation, IMO.
Phelon is acting old with his tech difficulties with pictures. Makes me feel better.
I think it would require me to make my Facebook page public which ain’t happenin’.
Phish, I like old country music, I grew up hearing it because my Mom and uncle were both big fans. A lot of the new stuff is generic country rock nonsense that all sounds the same.
Pop country
We need Hood and Williams to help keep the defense fresh. We’ve taken so many hits with injuries up front.
Indeed. Hopefully they provide the shot in the arm we need as we enter the second half of our season.

Stanger, I did a couple of hotel projects in KW and flew Silver every week. About 40% of my flights were on time and trouble free…..
Lol…Which is to say 60% were late and a hassle. But they’re cheap.
Phelon, Facebook pics and posts don’t translate here. Twitter does, Wyo, M13 and Piggs use it frequently here.
I think until a photo is “published ” on the internet you’ll have a hard time posting it here. One way to “publish” it would be to add it to Mike’s post up above then you’d be able to use it with the link from this site.
There’s a street in a neighborhood right near me that is called “Gore Dr ” I’ve been waiting 8 weeks to use it when he seals a game for us. I have a tight picture of the street sign. He came close in the Chicago game then gave way for Drake to fumble. But I digress, lol, when the time is finally right I’ll use it in a story for a new blog. Except now it won’t be a surprise.
How do I add it to Mike’s post?
We’d have to do it. Send it to one of us Mike, Piggy or me in an email. (Then hope we do it, jbb)
Just tweet it then post the tweet!
I don’t tweet
Twit! 😉
The man is keeping me down.
These kids today with that twitter thingy…

Alright
Is there water boarding?
I’m on phone now I’ll need to be on my PC to do it not because I can’t do it from my phone but “I” can’t do it from my phone, nomsayin

is Tannehill done for the season?
My guess is he’s out until after the BYE week. If he’s not better by then, he will be done for the season, and probably done as a Dolphins QB
Gase is meshuganah!

___________________________________________
Not a chance in hell, he’ll be here next year, who do they have to replace him? if they draft a QB he will hold a clipboard for a year at least and why would they eat all that dead money and pay another veteran? Tannehill IMO will be here next year.
Depends on how you look at it Rob. He’s an injured QB right now with a bad shoulder and coming off a knee injury, that will be making $26M next season. You could probably get Brock Osweiler for $8M, and then you have $5M for another player, because we will save $13M if we release him.
Only if he re-does his contract. I doubt they will pay him $26M to play one more year. Also depends on whether they can even get a QB in the draft that is worth taking a chance on.
Or, what Mike said.

——————————————-
Damn, this is one of my all time favorite players. He also was born and grew up over here in Mobile, like Hank Aaron. Sad day indeed.
I would prefer RT to Osweiler as a placeholder next year if they could get him for no more than $13M and walk away the next year with no dead cap.
Phelon – They have to bring in a young QB to groom, whether it’s a 1st RD pick or a 4th RD pick, there has to be a QB for the future. I agree that ripping up the contract for T-Hill is a possibility, but if he won’t do that, I can’t see him being here next season. I don’t see Tannehill as our long term answer anymore
Then there’s this . . .
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000983101/article/brock-osweiler-wants-to-remain-dolphins-starting-qb
Mike, I agree that sans a new contract, RT is gone next year. And Osweiler hasn’t played any worse overall (yet). Osweiler is more streaky tho.
FWIW – I still consider Osweiler as a QB that is developing. He has 28 game starts, 21 of which he was the starter from GO, so definitely think he’s still developing and learning. Problem is, he’s 28 YO, so he better develop fast! lol
I’m kind of done with developing QB. I’ve reached a point where the only developing I accept there is for a rookie.
I can also see Miami trading a mid-round pick to the Raiders for Carr in the off season, since they won’t likely be in the running for a top QB draftee.
You’re a good fan. 🙂 I think we’ll be in the running for one of the top QB’s, but not THE top QB. Right now it looks like there’s only 1 1st RD QB, but of course once the process gets rolling, there will be 2-3, if not more.
Phelon – I wanted to let you know I was wrong about the 8-ball rack, sort of. The only requirement is that the there is a solid ball at the front, one solid on the bottom corner, and one stripe on the other bottom corner. The way I racked them accomplished that, but there was no need for alternating solid and stripes every ball like I did. So now we both know.
LOL…I just wrote it off to a combination of alcohol and some weird chemical New Jersey thing!
🙂
Even if Tanny will get paid $26 mil if on the roster next year, we take a $13 mil cap hit if we cut him cause of accrued bonuses. So his cap cost is $13 mil. Not exactly cheap, but far from expensive for a vet starting QB.
Not sure what you’re saying here. It’s $26M if he stays, we save $13M if he’s released.
I can’t see any way we pay him $26M next season, unless he becomes Joe Montana the rest of this season.
Tannehill asked where Montana is, are they in our division?
Exactly right. He has a $13 mil cap hit even if released, which means costs $13 mil to keep him. Just turned out that 13 is half of 26.
Stanger – That’s deceiving saying it that way. It’s $26M for him, or $13M to spend on someone else. That’s how I look at it.
We’re saying the same thing just in different ways. My main point was that the $26 mil isn’t the actual cap savings of trading or releasing him. That $13 mil is what is actually in play.
Si, correcto
Stanger – That reminds me of the “hand math” thing. You say you have 11 fingers, you count down from 10 on one hand to six, and then say 6 + 5 = 11. No matter how you slice it, it costs us $26M for Tannehill to be on the team, or $13M less if we release him. Eso es lo que es! 😀
I’d never heard of that one — pretty cool. Do remember getting into arguments in middle school trying to explain that a pound of lead is not heavier than a pound of feather though. 🙂
LOL – tough concept
I have said it a few times and im 100% with Mike, i dont see them paying him 26mil to basically just sit as a placeholder, though i do get what you are saying ORob.
You have to count the 13mil dead cap hit towards the salary of the guy who replaces Tanny. So if we were to get a journeyman, like Fitz for example and we pay him 7mil, we are really paying him 20mil because you tack on the 13mil we have left over from Tanny. This isnt literally paying him 20 of course, but conceptually, it is.
Still i believe we can find a place holder player for less than 13mil, so Tanny would stiii be savings. Its possible with how much Peyton has been hanging around that between Dan and Peyton we have all the mentoring we would be looking for and wouldnt need a player for that role. Tanny wouldnt be good for that role anyways because if he isnt good enough to be a starter, or new starter shouldnt be learning from him.
I think for Tanny’s sake, a trade or cut would be best for his career too. Maybe he can get a change of environment and turn what time he has left as a player into a decent career. Again, im not hateful towards the guy, i just want better at the position, and this relationship just has floundered so long i think its time to call it quits for the sake of both sides.
Stanger, Mike is right though, if we leave him we have 26mil in dead money lol vs 13mil in dead money. 13 mil is 13 mil.It all boils down to if you think you can get a “good enough” placeholder guy for under 13mil, and i think the answer to that is absolutely.
I know Mike is right, but was saying just what he was. And yep — the $13 mil value on Tanny or not is the one to consider. Personally think he is worth more than that, but get that opinions differ. Main part to me is he got injured in game 3. First 2 were darn good for him.
They really werent though. Do you know that Osweiler’s per game statistics right now are dwarfing Tanny’s? I mean Osweiler isnt that good, but he has been playing better than Tanny and its obvious both at watching the games and looking at the stats. Tanny’s first two, while definately his best this year were not good games by other QB standards.
I really think we can find a guy for 6-7mil next year to be a place holder, so that means the net savings from cutting or trading Tanny is about 6-7mil. Thats a solid OG, or maybe even 2 solid depth players on the OL.
If you look at next year as a year where we are basically setting up a 2020 start over at QB then the guy we have at QB doesnt come with a big push to get someone that gets us to the playoffs. It is what it is, so you could target a guy like Fitz, Tyrod Taylor, Matt Schaub, Josh McCown, Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater (if healthy), or maybe even Father Tim (aka Brandon Weeden) give him a 1 year 5-7mil contract to be the starter, have a plan to get the rookie ready as soon as possible, meaning 2mid 2019 if necessary but ideally starting in 2020. We add some OL depth with what we have left over, or maybe even a starter, or use it to re-sign James. I just think any sort of idea that we have 26mil tied up at QB is a bad one when we obviously have no scenario where a QB we will have next year should be paid 26mil.
If you really are just having a placeholder QB next year, why not just go with Osweiler? Saying you’re going with a placeholder QB pretty much means you aren’t expecting to win much. More losses mean a higher draft pick. I can’t root for losing but this team isn’t gonna be a powerhouse next year anyway. The only reason I’d keep Tanny is if you think you can trade him.
That’s how I feel Randy – Osweiler at $7-8M makes more sense, and is less complicated than keeping Tannehill here.
D – Yeah, we’re on the same page regarding Tannehill
TNF – Raiders vs Niners. Woo hoo! That’s a marquis matchup right there!
The Battle for the first pickin the 2019 draft!
Temple at UCF will be a better game
Yeah, and to make it worse, CJ Beathard may not be playing……..ok, just kidding……it’s bad no matter what
LOL – Nothing like watching the backup of the backup QB on a team that’s 1-7. Savor it! The NFL’s finest offering, TNF baby!
I know one person who would be watching if Beathard was playing……………LOL
Oh, and Mike, I am with you…TNF Football, no matter the match up sucks!
This aught to explain half of Gases expressions!
LOL at the responses.
I dont think its a reporters business to tell a coach who is or isnt better. They arent trained to make those evaluations. He has every right to write about it, and represent it as his opinion, but no right to tell a caoch who is or isnt the better player and who should or shouldnt be starting.
I agree with you, especially when it was phrased as a statement, and not a question.
Can you imagine setting there answering Omar and Mondo’s questions???
It’s rather funny how most of the posters have been sucking up to Tannehill for all these years and now they want to dump him at the expense of 13 m.
Whether you know it or not when it comes to QBs there are really only a few that standout and of those few you will not be able to get for 13m a year. i’d be willing to bet any veteran QB that you can get for 13 m won’t be as good as Tannehill.
Yes i believe Tannehill will be here in 2019.
I wouldnt care if the person wasn’t as good as Tannehill. The as good as or not as good as is completely subjective but Ill take whatever cap savings we get and pick up any of those guys i listed above to ride out a season over paying Tannehill 26mil. I am 100% certain we can get a stand in QB for 7-8mil, and we really aught to be shooting to draft a guy and get a stand in FA, be that Brock, Fitz, etc.
It doesn’t matter what any of us here think. I’d refer to Gase on this matter.
Nothing any of us thinks makes any difference, thats not the point of voicing our opinions on things.
I was replying to ORob saying he thinks Tannehill will be here in 2019 vs. many of you already pretty much declaring Tannehill is gone in 2019. I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Gase doesn’t feel the same way about Tannehill as many of you do. It’s pretty obvious with his comments about him.
Far as I am concerned we are 8 games in and Tanny got injured. Not sure what is so different than before he did. And not like ever thought he was the next Marino.
I don’t know how they have UCF ranked 12th? Behind a 2 loss team! they went undefeated last year and are on pace to do the same this year, it would appear regardless of what they do they wont be a top 4 team.
If i were UCF i would push to join a bigger conference. It will help them with recruits and it will help legitimize their program.
Tannehill knows the system any QB you bring in other than Brock would have to learn the system, maybe they can restructure his contract but usually when that happens they add extra years and guaranteed money. if they do that then we’ll know Tannehill will be here for the long haul but as for 2019 i would be shocked if he wasn’t our starting QB.
We’re 8 games into the season. Seems to early to project much. But if Tanny is not here next year unless the injury a bad one, figure it means neither is Gase.
Ok Devante, why are you just showing us now.
Bucs could use a QB. Trade Tanny to them for their 2nd. They can sign him to a multi year deal. Then we can sign Carr. I think Carr would be good running our offense. Then we can draft another QB in the 2nd round (BPA in the first) to develop with Falk.
We wouldn’t be signing Carr, we’d be trading for him and then paying him $22.5M. His contract comes with him and he’d have to accept a new deal which I’m not sure he would. I also don’t think he’s a significant upgrade if at all.
I dont think he is either. After the 2 injuries, he doesnt seem to be the same guy. Plus he’s making some real rookie type decisions out there.
Man when i went back and looked at that Giants lineup back when McCovey was there, that was a sick ass lineup.
Cepeda, McCovey, Mays, the Alou Bro’s, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry.
Isnt Wink Martindale a game show host?
Ya! I say it but didn’t want to spend the effort to look it up
I guess that’s his nick name?
Don “Wink” Martindale was promoted to defensive coordinator on Jan. 9, 2018

Who does Mando think he is anyway? He’s not one of us, hes a professional journalist.
Now if one of us could attend the presser…
Is he really??????????
Well…he gets paid so that makes it so. LOL
UCF has 3 non-conference games year don’t they?
Schedule perennial top 25 teams!
Lots of non-power 5 teams do it!
Although I will caution you that this will get your ass whooped at times! 😉
I had them USF and FSU on my wish list to bring into the SEC last time we expanded. Nothing about Missouri screamed south east and i really wanted an in-state rivalry for UF that was also an SEC East rivalry. IMO they got it wrong Adding Texas A&M and Missouri, A&M hasnt been a bad addition, but i would have much more preferred a team like LaTech which is a strong school which would benefit from SEC recruitment and funding and they would give LSU a rival in Lousiana.
I wanted to consider Carr in the offseason, but inheriting his contract would make cutting Tanny or trading him hard to afford. Carr even at his current level is better than Tanny, he is a more developed QB. That said he isnt the end of the search to me, he just would be moving to another starting player who would be an upgrade without chancing things on a rookie.
Mike though is right, there really is no reason to keep playing around with other peoples former startrs, we need to go find our guy the old fashion way, trial and error. I think now id be much happiereven with the attempts and fails than grabbing another high priced guy and when he doesnt pan out being all pissed we are paying so much for inferior merchandise.
I think a good strategy would be to either get an FA (i think the learn the system thing for a vet is a moot point, players like Fitz/McCown have done it a few times) or re-sign Osweiler. Cut Tanny, Trade if we can but i think thats going to be a hard trade to pull off. Draft a guy in the first and dont be afraid to make a trade up move and give up future picks if you have to to get him. Roll with the stand in as your QB for 2019 or at least part of 2019 before giving way to the new guy in late 2019 or starting out 2020. Take your lumps in 2019, and if you are 100% sold on your guy in 2019, and 2020 earns you a high pick, then you might draft another dude in 2020 because you will also have a new coach.
Have Falk to develop too. I remember a few on here liked him.
Yeah i liked him. I wanted us to try for Allen and possibly pick up Falk in a later round as well to pair together.
I don’t think Carr is more developed. He’s been very up and down all season. He’s not playing like an ascending QB.
Just beat the Jets!!
Dilly Dilly!
Hear hear! Win a game.
Sure, we’re too old to change the world. What about that kid, sitting down, wearing a Tanny jersey right now thinking about sunday’s game and finding social media pictures of pee-pees and wee-wees on his hope for a win against the Jets. Doesn’t he deserve better?
Well he took our lunch money last game! So this is good for us?
Quincy Enunwa WR Ankle DNP DNP
Robby Anderson is really the only receiver they have that scares me. He’s not someone i would have ever expected to be a dangerous weapon for them either, but he has really excelled in the past couple of seasons.

Yep they should buy that kid another jersey!
The Butt-Fumbler would be a good start!
This is about that kid’s right to root for the Phins without getting his mind warped. Or maybe that turns you on, D… Maybe that’s how you get your kicks… You and your goodtime buddies.
Maybe thats because my mind was warped by the Dolphins and i just want to pass along something to the next generation.
What is it you old fellas say… If it was good enough for me it should be good enough for them…. You know right before yall get in that “i walked up hill to school barefoot in the snow both directions” rant.
D– just want to make sure you know that both the first comment and the last were Bookman quotes from Seinfeld.
I didnt catch the quotes, but i caught the fact you were joking.
Cool — well in this case I am old enough to have caught Seinfeld in it’s original run and back on my way home uphill in repeats. 🙂

Matt Burke told his players “you’re not independent contractors,” meaning they can’t freelance. They have to be right. #MiamiDolphins

Post just to update avatar photo!
Wait a minute!
Hmm is it updated yet…
Yep
The team had extra time off to self evaluate this week and hopefully the defense can clean up their mishaps and play a big game this Sunday. They obviously have to play better than in recent weeks. Even against the Bears despite forcing some turnovers they gave up a ton of big plays.
The offense has been okay and good enough to win close contested games, but not good enough if the defense is going to get lit up.
It’s just same ol same ol. Score 20, give up 30…
Here’s the deal for me.
If this team comes out flat, uninspired and basically how they start almost every game…that’s it. Time for reset button.
If this staff cant get the team to show up from play 1 this week, then I feel like it’s just over. If they cant come out with fire against a hated rival after being embarrassed on national TV, then stick a fork in it.
It’s not play 1 or even the first series or two, it’s about doing nothing most of the 1st half and falling behind and playing catch up the rest of the game. But the game is 4 quarters as we’ve seen both good and bad for us. It’s more about not letting the game away from you where you pretty much have no shot in the 4th quarter. Last week we were down 14-10 at the half. That’s okay. But the defense fell apart in the 2nd half.
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/rumor-mill/
So this article says to me that Gase thinks RT is doing everything that is asked of him and can do anything they want him to do. Ok. So if all they are asking him to do is throw 1-5 yard passes, the problem is with the OC.
Those short pass plays are supposed to compliment the running game and set up manageable 1st downs. Then set up play-action along the way where we can go down the field more. Early on Tannehill was hitting some down field throws because we were in the game. Then the NE and CIN game we struggled on offense but sometimes games go like that. We were up on CIN 17-0 because of STs and the defense. Then it all came apart for many reasons in the 4th quarter.
Osweiler is not a down the field passer so we’re even more limited now. This offense needs the running game to succeed but if the OL can’t open the holes, we’re pretty much going to have to rely on the defense to keep the game close and somewhat low scoring like 17-13 either way heading into the 4th quarter. This team can’t win with the defense playing poorly. The Bears game was a rarity and without forcing timely turnovers we lose that game easily.
Right now this season depends on the defense and STs to me. We’re not a potent offense with or without Tannehill so we have to win games with less than 30 points scored.
If they asked him to grow away the bengals game, the problem runs deeper than the OC
Lmao @ Stanger’s 4:37 post…very well done!!
We’ll see how the market plays out, but if we are going with a QB at 10 million or less, I’d vote for Bridgewater. I think he could be had at that price for a short term deal.
I don’t think he’s the answer either. The Saints also gave up a 3rd rd pick for him so I’m not sure they just let him walk.
Even though the media and most fans are ready to move on from Tannehill, if his shoulder isn’t a long-term issue and we’ll find out more about that if and when he plays this year, I think he’s back next season at his current salary or an adjusted one. We then draft a QB top 3 rounds and take a good look at Luke Falk. Not sure if Osweiler will be in the plans or not.
One thing about Tannehill’s contract everyone is annoyed with and not taking into account is, there is no other player on the team making anywhere near that kind of money like Suh and we all know many QBs are overpaid. We can still pay him that, let vet players at other positions with higher salaries go and bring in new younger players. Don’t disregard that Gase is a fan of Tannehill.
Before it starts, this isn’t my bias or Tanne-lover or whatever, it’s what I think will likely happen. Other areas of the team also need to be sured up to become a better team.
A lot will be determined in the 2nd half of the season. I haven’t given up yet and I’m just as disappointed as the rest of you about how this season has gone after the 3-0 start. 1-4 is definitely trending in the wrong direction. We’ll see.
Stanger, just read through the other posts ….nice!!
Dude — you had me at Bookman…… Wife (who not sure if you have met) and I have a running debrief of an evening about “which Seinfeld episode was that.”
I have not met your wife, she sounds like a wonderful woman if she talks Seinfeld with you. 😀
She’s pretty cool so long as you don’t stare at the man hands.
Or if she is BALD!
