BYE WEEK BI-BABE

She’s Back!

This year model/actress Cara Delevingne will grace our blog as the Bye Week Bi-Babe. In a close race Cara proved she had what it takes to be an honored recipient of this blogs coveted award ie; plenty of quotes and hot pics.

“Why should I have to explain who I am to you?”

“You should know that. If you have a question, ask me and I’ll tell you what you want to know. People should be allowed to just be who they are and others need to stop putting others in a box.”

Thank you Cara, you are lovely…

All right folks we’re 10 games in and alive for the playoffs while also being measured by the undertaker. Tank it or Kill it. If we tank it we get in the top 10 of the draft most likely, if we kill it we potentially win our division and host a playoff game. those are two options as you have already realized there is a third – the absurd third – we go 3-3 and maintain the status quo as usual.

I’m happy to watch it play out. This bye week has come at a great time to give us a chance to get healthy and identify areas that can be improved as we prepare for the season’s final six regular season games. There are a lot of things about this team that I like our young defense, our runningbacks, our young Tight End group,ar-181016652 our speedy receiving corp and that they figured that they need to keep Minkah on the field. The Defense suffered injuries on the line and it has affected the D as a whole, but its a very young Defense that flies to the ball. All I can do is wonder how they’d play with a lead or at least knowing our team is capable of scoring points. We have Frank Gore and Kenyon Drake that’s why I like our backs even though I do like Ballage as well. At TE we have the rookies along with Nicklaus O’Leary and AJ Derby I think its a good young group. I like the speed guys in our receiving group despite the injuries piling up, they get open and they block. Minkah is huge for us going forward I think its easy to see.

We struggle, oh boy do we struggle, to score points. If this team can find the magic elixir during this bye week we could be dangerous. If being the operative word there, like it always is. Of late, and I mean the last several years, the passing game has sucked, I blame almost everything that troubles the Dolphins on poor passing. I know, injuries and yes there are many, play calling, sacks and penalties despite a significant reduction this year and the Offensive line. All of those are mitigated by better passing such as not missing wide open receivers who have beaten everyone, uncatchable balls, wrong side of the receiver balls, missed reads for a wide open play. And I’m talking about the balls that have been thrown I realize especially this week our line can make for a rough pocket. I look around the league and it seems most teams run a similar offense and face the same pressure and good coverage that we do, the major difference that glares to me is good passing.

We need Touchdowns!

Best of luck to the Dolphins in the last 6 games of the 2018 season, I’ll be watching every one.

I’m a couple of days late but I want to thank this nation’s veterans for your service, with a special thanks to the guys in our group that have served. Never Forget.

Also a Happy Birthday  to

The United States Marine Corps

    First!

Thanks for the write and the babe Son. Good job.
Great pics from Phelon. Thank you again for serving.

    Kill it or tank it!

Nice write, Son. It would be nice to see some progress down the stretch and the continued development of young players.

Thanks to Phish for his service and to all the vets who served and those who continue to serve.

  3. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Phish, a couple of military questions for you.

Those scarfs I see all the soldiers wearing around their necks like you have in the pic, is that to cover your face in the Middle East due to the desert?

I’m not sure how much action you saw, but when you serve for as long as you did, how do you feel to have survived and not having been maimed when so many others were maimed or killed? Is there a guilt, why not me or is it a feeling I’m one of the lucky ones?

I ask this because I’ll see photos of vets who are in their 90’s who served in both WWII and Korea and I think to myself, that’s amazing to me when so many didn’t last a week or a month.

Free-agent CB David Amerson (Chiefs) is expected to sign an undisclosed contract with the Arizona Cardinals soon, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

  6. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Kuniggut – The scarf is called a shamagh. It’s a multi-purpose piece of gear. Sunshade, dust filter, etc. often worn by scholars and elders.

I was awarded combat action ribbons for the Gulf War (‘90-‘91) and Somalia (‘93) and a combat support medal for Bosnia-Herzegovina (‘96). I was in Pristina, Kosovo in 2000, but as a civilian. The picture wearing the shamagh was Mogadishu 2014. The other two pics are various parts of Somalia in ‘93.

As to how I feel about surviving, I’m pretty damn happy about it! Seriously, it’s not something that I have ever given a lot of thought about. Everybody is set up differently psychologically. Guilt is not something that has ever been an issue for me. War is harsh and it’s luck of the draw. You see things that you never wanted to see and sometimes you lose people that you don’t want to lose. But that’s what we signed up for. You don’t join the Marines for the benefits or the job training or the travel. You join the Marines to be a warrior, to train to fight and to use that training.

My grandfather who was an island hopper int he south pacific for WW2 said similar thing. It bothered him enough that later in life he had times when his dreams haunted him. I think it humbled him a good bit, made him a quiet and reserved dude, but in the moment he had to isolate it out so he could continue to do his duty and he also needed his wits to not be counted among a lot of friends he had lost. He also said there was a detachment he had as far as friends in the military vs friends in civilian life. I think it affected him because he didnt spend a lot of time socially in life and from what i understand, that wasnt his nature before the war. I think the truth of it, how outwardly it affects a man, and how inwardly it affects the same man is different and probably immeasurable.

I never got a sense of regret from the stories he told me, there was some pride in it. I think he did ultimately wish he hadnt had to exprience some of the things he did and he didnt want to do some of the things he did, but his duty overrode those emotions and helped him come to grips with it. A lot of military, the ones truly dedicated to the fact that they serve this country, it kind of a matter of taking one for the team, they experience it so we didnt have to, and i think pride comes with that feeling too.

Truly, the ones dedicated to the military and what it stands for, shoudl be considered heros and they should be allowed to feel pride for what they have done, not shame.

We’re not heroes one and all. I suspect that most vets get as tired of hearing that word as I do. It has become overused (kind of like the word racist, but for different reasons). Most of us are just guys (and girls) doing what we signed up for. Heroism is a higher standard, and should be, than just doing your job. Even getting shot up, wounded or killed doesn’t make a hero.

  11. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I’m reading the thing and going “MIke is a lot more positive about the team….. maybe searching for the babe of the week pictures put him a good mood.” And maybe I missed who wrote it cause eyes went straight to the first pic. 🙂

Real good write by Son — I too like a lot of things about this team as frustrating as this season has been at times. So just can’t get into the blow up stuff and don’t see all that much point in the tank it either. Might be different if we didn’t have 5 Ws already.

  12. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

    • D's avatar D says:

Ive considered Washington to go QB, but they would definitely have to trade up.

I cant see the Giants not taking a QB.
I cant see Denver not taking a QB.

I agree with TB taking one if they just bite the bullet and move on from Jameis, which im not fully convinced they will even after the benching. Depends a lot on if they also reboot at coach.

Agree with the Raiders needing a QB, but they may not be able to move Carr. I dont think that keeps them from taking a QB, but i would expect them to want to move him if at all possible andthey would be a team i think would start their QB right off.

I agree with us, and i like the person they have us selecting. I would rather have Lock (Hebert isnt happening) but Jones may wind up the best pro, and h might be the best ready to go prospect out of the QB group.

I dunno if i see Grier going in the first, and as i said im not sure i see Washington taking a QB in the first. I think Grier is a 1st round potential in a 3rd round definable player.

Id love to double up with Jones and Grier to go with Falk who was my dark horse guy from last years group. Id keep all three of them as well unless one of them just looked like an absolute waste of a spot and if we came to a point to where one guy was a clear winner and one of the other two is a clear next man up, then i say we continue to develop all three and trade one down the road, or maybe even both.

      • D's avatar D says:

I meant to “as i have said ive considered Washington to go QB”, but trade up makes it less likely. I lean towards them not selecting a guy.

      • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Yah, I don’t think Washington takes a QB next year. Maybe the year after.

Oh right and it’s always good with a backup QB. Everyone has always had a high regard for Osweiler. LOL

The thing is Osweiler is better in the short and medium range passing game than Matt Moore ever was. Moore’s best asset was he threw a nice rainbow deep ball. Other than that he wasn’t a good rhythm passer. Good competitor and gave it his all like Osweiler but neither are very talented.

You do realize in Gase’s 2.625 seasons he’s started 5 QBs, right?

Tannehill, Moore, Cutler, Fales and Osweiler. Great situation for a HC wouldn’t you say? Everyone says QB is the key and Gase can’t roll with his guy for any period of time. I’m sure all of the expert fans would do better – rolling eyes…

Look at the situation and stop being so smug as fans. So many of you are ignoring all of this and asking for awesomeness.

If the roster we had today was the one we started the season with, what would be your expectations? Be honest. I’ll wait for the “yeah but” stuff because it never ends. It’s play-calling! Right, I know it has nothing to do with talent. Just call these plats and magic happens. Stop!

That’s why everyone gets nuts over FA and the draft. Because it doesn’t matter. Call these plays and we win with anyone. LOL

If the Dolphins do the right thing, and they draft a QB next season, maybe 2, hopefully at some point that will be the 6th and 7th QB’s Gase will have played in his tenure. I feel like there’s just a built in excuse now, because if Tannehill struggles if/when he comes back, they can say it’s his shoulder, but he’ll be fine for next season. That won’t sit well with me at all.

Look around the NFL and find me a QB who has been average or less than average his entire career that’s about as long as Tannehill’s, and has never played in a playoff game, that is still starting for the team he was drafted to. The only close example is Matt Stafford, who has lost 3 playoff games, 0-3. He had been an average QB who didn’t miss a game, an iron man so to speak, but that’s over and done with. Now he’s had knee surgery and a shoulder injury, and has missed 24 games in the last 3 seasons. What is it exactly we’re waiting to happen?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

To add to the anti-Tannaehill ledger, whether perception tells you differently, the 2 other “starting” QB’s Gase has had here have put up statistics almost mirroring Ryan Tannehill’s. I know the perception is that Cutler played awful, and sometimes he did, and also that Osweiler has played awful this season, and sometimes he did, yet statistically, they match up pretty close with Tannehill

Tannehills injuries could have and would have happened to any QB in the same scenarios. he has had a poor coaching staff his entire career with Philbin and his college OC, Bill Lazor LOL!

he’s 11-7 with gase, and most of the teams that Gase has fielded are the players he inherited from Philbin.

if you fire Gase and dump tannehill you’re back on the mediocre merry go round.

    good luck with that.

give them guys a chance, they will get healthy again.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

My comment wasn’t so much about Gase as it was about Tannehill. Both Cutler and Osweiler have played with the same roster Tannehill did, except for the heroic Jay Ajayi. 🙂
Do you think Tannehill is going to play at a higher level than he has? If not, whatever he’s done hasn’t been good enough to get us to the playoffs and actually win a playoff game.

SB – Maybe if we converted on 3rd down, the defense wouldn’t be on the field all day. Also, maybe if our offense scored, it would put some pressure on the opposing team. It also might give the defense a jolt if we actually took a big lead. Might,I say, might . . .

With the QB F/A class the way it is next year (sheesh) with the likes of:
    Matt Schaub
    RG III
    Tyrod Taylor
    Matt Cassel
    David Fales
    OZ
    Josh McCown
    Teddy Bridgewater
    Nick Foles
    Landry Jones
    Ryan Fitz
    Colt McCoy
    etc
It is obvious we need to draft 1 or 2. I will take D’s draft from yesterday! Tannehill will be back. Teddy B and Foles will want to go to a team to start. McCown may retire but wouldn’t mind him as a backup with Falk and a rookie. What about Landry Jones as a vet back up. I would take him over Oz. I just don’t know. This sucks, LOL.

  60. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Wake, Quinn and Hayes are all F/A’s in 2019. Who do you keep? We were deep at DE to start the year, now we will be really depleted to start next. If we don’t resign any of our own, we need to draft a DE as well and will have to sign at least one or two. Who do you try to sign out of the top 4-3 DE group? Trey Flowers, Demarcus Lawrence, Brandon Graham, Ezekiel Ansah?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I would sign Wake, but for the love of God, he needs to be a situational pass rusher only. It’s not his fault we can’t stay healthy, but that’s what he needs to be. Quiinn is not a FA next season, but we can cut him and he has no dead cap hit. He will cost just shy of $13M. I’d like to see how he finishes this season, but at the moment, I’m inclined to say he’s gone next year.

  61. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If we cut Tannehill, Quinn and Parker and Branch that’s $42M in cap space freed up

  70. Randy's avatar Randy says:

2016 was probably the worst thing that could have happened. It made people think we were a better team than we are. Tannehill was not the reason we won 10 games. He contributed, of course, but it was a top 10 rushing attack that made the difference. Tannehill put up numbers that were basically the same he has his whole career. Add in that we played the easiest schedule in the league that year and had very few significant injuries, and you get 10 wins. Tannehill helped the team win 7.5 games in 2016. Moore helped them win the other 2.5, I guess. Lol
    ****
Also, I thought I heard about 100 times around here that W/L aren’t a QB stat, so why are people bothering to constantly point out how many wins THE TEAM has had during a specific period of time? If you wanna change your tune and say W/L are now a QB stat, then Tannehill is a mediocre QB because his “record” is 40-42. Can you say “mediocre”?

    ___________________________________

I believe you’re taking my post out of context.
it was more in regards to realizing the potential of the Tannhill Gase combo, to decide whether we should keep that intact. they are 11-7 together, I know the Tanne/Gase haters around here will try to minimize that fact but it is true.
so if you have a QB HC combo that has went 11-7….do you lose 18 million and fire them?
as for earlier in his career he wasn’t a very polished QB and he had a horse shit FO for the first part of his career

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Not sure about the QB HC combo, but pretty darn sure Gase will be here next year. And really don’t see a scenario where Tanny is not least the QB while waiting for/competing with someone else other than as part of a huge trade for one.

  73. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

My mind is open about Tanny. The one thing know for sure is that want him back and the sooner the better. If nothing else that will help us have more to go off of come the offseason. Not that was ever on the OZ boat, but darn sure at this point don’t want Brock O to be anything other than our back-up QB.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Do we really need more to go on? Do you expect him with his sore shoulder to play any better than he has at any point during his career with a healthy shoulder? Maybe (probably) I’m close minded with him, but with our cobbled O-lone, his bad shoulder, I can’t imagine all of a sudden we’ll have a Rich Gannon type meteoric rise

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I just haven’t seen him play a lot of games in the last three seasons. Don’t see the harm in seeing him play more. And if he crashes and burns then walk away from him knowing no need to look back.

  74. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I’m not sure how good Tannehill is with this current team, but with everything that has been invested in him i don’t think you can fold the tent on him now especially if the HC is behind him.

Remember that homeless vet who gave his last $20 bucks to get that nice woman who had run out of gas home?
    ———————–
It was a feel-good story for the ages — a homeless military veteran’s random act of kindness and a New Jersey couple intent on helping him get back on his feet during the holidays — that inspired people to donate than $400,000 in an online fundraiser when it went viral last fall.

Inspired by Bobbitt’s selflessness, McClure and D’Amico launched a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $10,000 to get him an apartment, a “reliable vehicle” and cover four to six months of expenses.

The three were each charged with second-degree conspiracy and theft by deception. If convicted on all charges, D’Amico, McClure and Bobbitt each face 10 to 20 years in prison.

Less than an hour after the couple’s online campaign went live, McClure texted a friend, “OK so wait, the gas part is completely made up, but the guy isn’t. I had to make something up to make people feel bad.”

According to prosecutors, D’Amico and McClure spent the vast majority of the money raised by mid-March, buying a car, going on trips and hitting the casinos “hard.”

  89. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    ORob,
“Gase and Tannehill” were nothing. The team may have obtained that record, but “Gase and Tannehill” did not. Putting it that way suggests that those two were somehow more responsible for that record than anybody else, and they weren’t. Frankly, Ajayi should probably get more credit for any success we had in 2016 than “Gase and Tannehill”, and he’s not here anymore.

exactly Randy, running cures a lot offensively, but Gase seems to get that with the addition of Gore,
he acquired his best QB rating with a strong running game.

So that would be Gase setting up the run to help Tannehill.

Again back to the Tannehill/Gase combo. it doesn’t matter how you do it as long as you do it.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

he also revamped the OL to run block for a strong running game, they just all went down with injury/

we are going on 3 years invested in him on a 5 year deal, we’re only going to get deeper as a team and better.

I’m against getting rid of either Tannehill or Gase regardless of the outcome of this year.

I say reevaluate after the 4th year

Gase seems to be on the right track.

  94. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Look at the moves he made last year, he got rid of Suh$$$$, got rid of Landry$$$$, brought in Wilson, Amendola, Quinn, Sitton, gore …etc

he seems to be on the right track just with the moves he’s made in one year.

what moves are we in store for next off season???

will we be a deeper team next year?

will we have 15 starters injured next year?

  95. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    ORob,
As I’ve said, I’m still a little torn on Gase. I’m not opposed to keeping him, but it wouldn’t bug me that much if they didn’t. Tannehill is another story. He’s had more than enough time to show what he is, and it’s nothing to worry about losing. If folks feel he’s “good enough”, okay. I just don’t think he’s good enough to win big games. I just haven’t seen it. I prefer to try to get better at that very important position because this team will never make a run at a SB with him at QB, in my opinion.

  96. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Sorry if this is redundant to you all. I have been away. copied from Phinsider:

This is a really short post about Tannehill’s contract. Some people believe that because 13 million will hit the cap that money will need to be paid to Tannehill.

That money has already been paid to Tannehill. One observation. MIami does not owe Tannehill one penny. Much less 13 million dollars.

The 13 million that will hit the cap is bonus money that has already been paid to Tannehill. This consist of the initial bonus from his second contract in 2015 plus the amount of salary that was paid to him as a bonus last year. The amounts are broken down as follows:

    1. Initial bonus of 11.5 paid in 2015 spread over 5 years. This is 2.3 million a year ending in 2019.

    2. 16.5 million of salary paid as a bonus in 2018. This is an additional 5.5 million starting in 18 and ending in 2020.

Tannehill salary is non-guaranteed and is 18.725 million in 2019. He would not be paid if he is cut.

But the 2.3 million left from the first bonus and the 11 million left from the 2nd bonus would all hit the cap if he is cut before June 1st. That totals 13.2 million which would hit the Dolphins cap but that no one will ask Ross for.

That is money that Tannehill already has in his pocket but has not hit the cap.

So the summary to Tannehill is 18.7 million to play- 0 dollars if cut

To the team is 18.7 million paid to Tannehill plus 8 millions combined bonuses = about 26 million.

    Here is the link: https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/miami-dolphins

Almost apologize for posting this but it appears that some people are confused with the math which is confusing.

    Hope it helps.
