From memory, this is the spot where we’re usually facing playoff elimination. Sometimes it’s the Bills, sometimes it’s the Ravens, but either way, we come out on the wrong side. Adam Gase made sure that wasn’t an issue, so thank you Adam for leaving your balls in Davie, and thus sparing us all the usual heartbreak of a major clunker against the Bills. Despite the records, the Bills are the team on the rise, while we slowly decay from mediocre to possibly sub-mediocre.
There has been much debate about Adam Gase, Ryan Tannehill, and the dynamic duo together as a pair, and while there are two sides to the debate, there’s not a soul on this blog that believes Ryan Tannehill is now, or can ever be on the same level as the best QB’s in the NFL, such as Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Russell Wilson, Phillip Rivers, or even newcomers to this group such as Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff. He’s not even close to those guys. As far as Adam Gase is concerned, his ledger is incomplete, but he’s nearing the point of no return. I’ll explain.
So much was made about the wonderful job Gase did in Chicago with QB Jay Cutler, and I think I’ve found something about his style. I don’t think Gase should be known as “The QB Whisperer”. That’s way too sexy for what Adam Gase does to his QB’s. I’d call him “The QB Programmer”. The program is “BE CAREFUL!”
In 2014 w/o “The QB Programmer”, Jay Cutler threw for 3812 yards, 28 TD’s and 18 INT’s, a QBR of 88.6. Gase became the Bears OC in 2015, and “The QB Programmer” was born! No more pesky Peyton Manning telling him to STFU and let me do what I do, now I’m in charge here! Let’s look at this amazing successful transformation of QB Jay Cutler in 2015. Cutler threw for 3659 yards, 21 TD’s and 11 INT’s, a QBR of 92.3.
Seems to me that Adam Gase puts completion percentage and less turnovers as the hallmark of his programming algorithm. Never mind scoring TD’s, in fact, safety first Mr. Quarterback, if you need to throw past 10 yards, you better damn well have a good reason for doing so! I mean look at the stats of Jay Cutler here in Miami last year, in what looked liked a hideous, grotesque year for him. He completed 62% of his passes, threw for 2666 yards, 19 TD’s and 14 INT’s in 14 games. It’s all pretty similar. Thinking of how many times Cutler threw off his back foot or just chucked it to the turf to avoid a sack, 62% isn’t all that bad.
This past week in Indy was death knell for me for Gase. He’s more interested in the appearance of the game, “Gee fellas, that was a close game against Andrew Luck on the road, we almost pulled it out” What really happened was “Gee fellas, I’m sorry, we had a shot to upset Andrew Luck and the high flying Colts, but I went into a shell, my QB Programmer algorithm told me not to throw the ball past the sticks because, well, it’s dangerous you know, there are men on the other team just dying to take that ball away, and so you see, I took the safe route, and left it in the capable hands of our defense instead”.
Soooooooooo, we play the Bills in what has now become basically a meaningless game. The Bills threw up 41 points against the Jets, we just threw up against the Jets, hanging on for dear life with a 13-6 victory in a very painful game to watch. The Bills defeated a demoralized Jaguars team, but still, a formidable defense for sure, but a team with about as much teeth in their offense as ours. It’s a damn shame, SB7 wants to get together this weekend, but dammit, I don’t have it in me to travel to NYC to watch this team play, not anymore. I’d sooner meet up and go to McSorley’s Old Ale House, and see if we can deplete them of all of their delicious dark ale, rather than languish at Slattery’s, “The House of Horrors” for Dolphins fans hoping for a crucial win to make the playoffs.
Tis a sad state friends, and I believe as long as Adam Gase is here (The QB Programmer), and good ole #17, Ryan Tannehill is here, there will be more of the same. Hell, if I was Ryan Tannehill, I’d welcome the opportunity to compete for a starting job elsewhere, maybe he can have that Rich Gannon type of resurrection.
Anyway, wish I had more positive things to say, but alas, this past week and and frustrating loss has once again left me angry and unsatisfied with the Miami Dolphins. By the way, I shit you not, I was watching SNY this morning, looking for some positive sports news about the New York Mets, and on the scroll line, I saw the Mets hired Adam Guttridge as Assistant GM for analytics, I saw the Adam G, and I was like “WTF is that, Mets hired Adam Gase!!!!!!!??????” It got me ultra-pissed for just a millisecond, but that’s how i feel about Adam Gase right now. I want him nowhere NEAR our rookie QB that we draft next season. NOWHERE!!!!!
For those of you who still enjoy the games, I salute you! Bookman, I love ya man, I wish I could share what you feel, so please continue to bring it here so at least I could share a little of it still. Even if I get a sliver of it, it will be better than not having any of it. I admit, sports has made me bitter. Losing, disappointing seasons are the norm across the board for me now, Dolphins, Mets and Knicks. The hits keep coming, and I’m feeling like Glass Joe, ready to hit the canvas.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

All I have to say is we won! We’re In it! GoFins! Beat the Pats!
Was a fun game to watch….. good to see you bud.
This team has a hard time closing out games, first of all they should have challenged O’Leary’s spot, he made the 1st, 2nd why would you line up in the wild cat on a critical 3rd and 1 to seal the game. you either qb sneak it or you give it to a FB. lining up in the shot gun in that situation is a disaster of a call WTF!
It was hard to tell, but I thought O’Leary may have got the 1st too. I put it on slow-mo and his hand hit the ground, then the knee almost instantly after it. It looked like he was MAYBE at most a foot short. It was close, he definitely was not a full yard off. Terrible spot.
we’re chasing the 7-5 Ravens who still have to play @ KC and @ chargers,
SB – I agree with you, even if Tim doesn’t. It’s not like we were some juggernaut, we got by Tennessee who wasn’t playing well at that time, had a helluva time with the Jets, barely escaped with a win against Oakland who were awful, and then got shellacked by the Patriots
A game can be poorly played and entertaining. This one was. Buffalo is not a good team either, and we did just enough to beat them thanks to a missed XP and FG. This kind of performance won’t beat good teams but that ain’t Buffalo.
But who was thinking we could beat good teams other than the any given Sunday thing before the game started? Team is what the team is.

Packers have fired Mike McCarthy and named Joe Philbin interim HC.
Way to go Big Joe!
Well there you go! SOME have wanted to see if Joe could have made it with a better QB?
Now we will find out!!!!!!!!!!!
Mike, holy flying fuck!!! I said earlier and many times during this season and tonight “We’re not a juggernaut team. We weren’t before all the injuries.”
We were not horrible the first 3 games. I said over and over scratch and claw and win as many as you can as we try build on this because there is plenty to clean up in all phases. Then the team started to come apart with injuries. Come on guys, be realistic! This annoys the shit out of me because I get ignored and the conversation then becomes as if I thought we would be awesome. Never said that once this year. I had no preseasaon prediction because I had never seen this team play before. Then when we lost a lot of key guys and lost some close games I said we’re not very good.
That said, we were not terrible the first 3 wins. Does anyone know what terrible means anymore? LOL
Fuck-it Let-em CRY!!!!!!!
LOL @ Holy flying fuck! 🙂
Yeah, that was worded a little too much the other way, but SB is right, we didn’t loom particularly good in the first 3 wins, we somehow came out ahead, not one impressive win out of the 3.
Tim — had to be too terrible at 3-0. In fact, would gladly take a terrible 17-0.
We are what our record says we. So sayeth the immortal Tony Sporano
Like it or not…but thru all the injuries, playcalling, and horrible QB…this team is 1 game out of the playoffs.
Fire Gase and go after McCarthy
LMAO
Cant win with Rodgers but OK.
I give up! I thought my longtime friends and FB friends were off at times but many of us saw each other recently and we all realized how petty everything gets. We all clanked glasses and said no more, it’s ridiculous. This blog is becoming like the ‘The View’. Nobody listens, reads or whatever.
We won a game today that was fun to watch and still not good enough. We must be dominant or else. LOL
We are playing meaningful football in December. Maybe not good football but meaningful football nonetheless
Holy shit! Entertaining? It was boring as Fuck. Like the battle of the inept
I’m just glad you decided to watch Phins games again.
I feel bad for you. You enjoy nothing. I wish you well.
You mean he is a Nihilist?
I enjoy a lot of things. Football is low on my list of priorities
Now Philbin can ruin Rodgers career
McCarthy has already taken care of that.
Anybody watch the game today? And we pile on Gase…..
Gotta say that Philbin has finally found the exact perfect fit for him in this life. Best interim HC any team could want.
Is there a problem with too many gum wrappers in Green Bay?
LOL — low key stable guy who will keep things calm and not a threat for the coaching search…. Puritan Cleanliness a bonus.
LMAO!!!!
at the moment we are the 7th seed in the AFC out of 16 teams, 3-1 in our division, 5-4 conf, 5-1 @home 1-5 on the road.
considering all the injuries that ain’t bad!
http://www.nfl.com/playoffs/playoff-picture
Tim
I’ll repeat!
Fuck-it Let-em CRY!!!!!!!
They will find a reason to cry no mater what the team does (besides win a SB)
So just sit back and Let-em CRY!!!!!!!
Maybe it’s their way of coping without a Safe Space????????????
McCarthy has the 2nd most wins in Packers history and made the playoffs 9 of 13 seasons. Whatta you got?
He doesn’t work in the NFL anymore!
we are 4-1 against the pats @ home over the last 5 games
Don’t even go there ORob. One of those games you assume will lose, a close loss is a win and a win is time to get buck naked and run through the streets.
Wyo – How about that Russell Wilson? 29 TD’s, 5 INT’s.
He doesn’t play for Miami!
So all your doing is mental masturbation!
I don’t care if Seattle wins or looses!!!!!
Just pointing out he’s a top 5 QB. I know where he plays, no mental masturbation, but I think you’re off as to how good or bad you think he is. He’s one of the best, he really is.
Ken – I believe that was Bill Parcells who said “We are what are record says we are”
I think they both said during the 2008 season at different times
“You called me a bitch, I’ll catch you. Trust me. I’ll catch you, guaranteed.”
— Bill’s DE Jerry Hughes to a ref in the tunnel after the game
“I’ll knock his ass out…He called me a bitch.”
— Hughes to his teammates that dragged him away from the ref
Wyo
For you brother . . .
Tim,
I understand your side but why weren’t we a good team even from the beginning? That’s the part me, maybe Mike and a few others focus on. If we aren’t a good team early, then something wasn’t built right. Every year we have questions on if certain talents will ever play well. Our OL is a turnstile every year. Parker is injured every year. We have at least one new starting CB every year. Our DEs have low sacks numbers…again every year. At this point, yes, it seems like we are stuck in neutral every year. We see us barely beat a terrible Bills team as our entire offense can’t hit 200 yards for the entire game. If it was just an issue this year, it wouldn’t be so glaring.
The team just isn’t that good, but that’s why Vegas had us at 7 wins. Same time much as I would love to have a true contender, lot worse teams out there too.
It wasn’t a pretty win but there was some good moments in the game. Tannehill did not have a great game but he threw 3 TDs including one in the 4th quarter to give us the lead. Xavien Howard had his 3rd multi int game of the season and now has 7 ints on the season. The D did come up with 2 fourth quarter stops. We won the turnover battle 3-1. This was not the 13-6?win over the Jets. We made plays when we had to in all 3 phases of the game. So quit all the bitching out there. Hulk out.
I enjoyed the game today, it was definitely entertaining without question. On the other hand, I’m not looking at it as anything other than a win over another poor to middling team.
We are supposed to beat the poor to middling teams. Today we did. There is no style points in the NFL. Now if we can only start beating the good teams
Yes! Enjoy some football!!!

************
Not anymore!
My FF team is getting bitchslapped, I knew I had a tough matchup this week going on, then Kareem Hunt is gone, and it made it even worse. I must win next week and hope a team or two lose or I won’t make the playoffs for the first time in this league. So disappointing . . .
You should draft players with better moral standards. 😜
LOL! You’re right
Ken – Beating the good teams is the one thing we haven’t been able to do, especially when it matters, like we’re playing for a playoff spot, or we’re in a playoff game.
I know. That’s why we always hover around.500
and we did just enough to beat them thanks to a missed XP and FG.
Don’t forget the game winning scramble and wide open touchdown dropped by Clay.
For once the ball bounced our way. We won by luck.

Without clicking, yes……. 6-6.
Guess Lou will be stroking that McCatthy appendage now. Have you seen GB last couple years? You watch that amazing team with the HOF QB? Wonder why they ran him out of town since according to the Professor it’s all about the QB anyway…..
But hey, because the guy has the 2nd longest tenure (I think) in their history let’s throw that out there as 2nd winningest. 3 other coaches had higher winning percentage and McCarthy had 2 HOF QBs to work with. That’s what I got.

It’s poisonous stay away from that crap, it will shut down your liver. That and hope. Stay away from that crap too.
This is my outlook:
This team has issues and they have been the same issues no matter who was at QB, who was the OC, who was the DC, with and without the “stars” we lost this off-season.
We are a slow start team and have not been able to score in the first half, especially in the the first quarter.
We are an undisciplined team always toward the top of the league in penalties since Gase took over
We cannot convert on third down or run out the clock
we cannot run for short yardage
we cannot stop the run
we cannot stop teams when it’s 3rd and long
This is all on Gase man.
GGG
Quick more Homeraide Rock. It’s not poisonous it warms the soul or at least the esophagus
that’s the poison you feel
ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS FOR THE DOLPHINS TO DEMORALIZE THE PATS NEXT WEEK
There is the Homeraide
No, it’s what I want. I want the entire Dolphins cheerleader sqaud to come over my house to “snuggle” with me in a giant mound too, but that ain’t gonna happen either.
Now you are getting greedy. You don’t need the entire cheerleading squad
No you don’t, you want them to piss in your cereal, snort a boog into a side dish, set fire to your closet, and attack you in your driveway every morning. LOL
who, the cheerleaders?
Okay. I’m wrong. I admit it. Sign Gase to an extension and do the same for Tannehill. I seriously do not know what I’m talking about.
You’re right. Keep this thing going and it will gel. Wait until next year.
I don’t think anyone is particularly wrong!
We just have different idea’s and views of the team, and how to move forward!
I’m very happy for Cam Wake that we won.
I thought our guys played hard and tried hard and never gave up.
We led the whole game except for a few minutes, and we also came from behind to win.
Tannehill threw 3 TDs, was tough as nails, and shook off some more rust.
We won with Jake Brendel, our 3rd string center. We won with Brice off his sofa and Ford just up from the PS as our WR3 & 4.
I’m very glad Phillips lost.
“I’m very glad Phillips lost.”
That was definitely a cherry on top of the win. It was also nice he had a moronic play that impacted a scoring drive for us.
yeah
BUT GGG
We ARE building.
We now have 3 good young TEs. A star on the rise in Minkah and a pro bowl CB in X.
PK and Punter look solid and LBs Raekwon and Baker are improving and will be good.
Tunsil still has not given up a sack all year (right?) and James has long flawless stretches although he sometimes screws up.
Drake is a home run threat from anywhere, and Ballage is learning how to be a pro more all the time.
I say next year we draft OL and DL interiors by finding the meanest toughest ass kickers of all.
Ken, it appears that Naples has gotten into a stash I must have lost track of. He must be drinking some of that poison.
Tannehill is 10-1 in his last 11 home games.
Xavien Howard has been a turnover machine for the Dolphin defense. His two interceptions killed Buffalo drives and now has a total of 11 interceptions in his last 17 games, which is tops in the NFL. His league leading seven interceptions is setting the tone for the secondary, and now has five career games of two or more interceptions, which is tied for third most in franchise history.
Rock
There’s your prob man. At this stage of the season, you’re not supposed to be DRINKIN’ it!
You agglomerate it and shave off little slivers into a suitable vessel before applying the flame.
Voila. Homerhash!
“When you get in the red zone, you’ve got to put points on the board. You want them to be touchdowns. We were able to do that today and it helped us get the W at the end of the day.”
— Running back Kenyan Drake said the offense was efficient against the Bills because they were 3-for-3 in the red zone in terms of producing touchdowns. The offense did not produce a lot of yards, but the Dolphins ended up with a touchdown every time they got inside the Buffalo 45-yard line. It ultimately was enough to help produce a victory.
Is today Hootie and the Blowfish day?
They were mentioned in an article read today, Mike posted their song earlier, and MNF just had them playing into the commercial. WTF?
And the lead singer went to my high school.
Kong – Just referencing Wyo’s let em cry statement. Darius says, as you know, “I’m such a baby cause the Dolphins make me cry”
Yeah, I followed that. It was just funny to see them referenced three times today.
I’m pretty sure I haven’t heard anything about Hootie since PC Principal had them playing in his ear every time he looked at Strong Woman, lol.
Pretty clear to me we need to make those throwbacks our regular uniforms. Those colors are so much meaner the pussy pastel colors they have changed to. The darker orange, or coral and white also “pop” so much more with the darker colors. If they love them so much, why use them twice a year, just make them the standard uni.
The Jest went oldschool unis sometime during the Ryan/Sanchez era, and never went back. It would be nice if we did the same thing. Our old unis are worlds better.
NY Giants did too. They really are a huge upgrade from what we wear now.
Who the hell is this Desmond King for the Chargers?!! 😉
This game right here (Chargers @ Stealers*) is a VERY good game! Two of the best QBs in the NFL.
2004 Draft. I wanted Phil Rivers so very badly to be drafted by us. I think our resident Pig is the only other one here who really wanted Rivers to fall to us.
Seriously, 2004 draft desires? LOL
How about the X-Man? 🙂
Bro, I’m just talking about the game being played right now! 🙂
And HELL YEAH on drafting Xavien Howard!!! 🙂
Are ya? 🙂
Yes
I wanted Rivers
I still think he’s one of the best QBs in the nfl
Tim,
There’s Jaylen Samuels for the Stealers*. That was your guy, right?
If so, you were VERY right about him!
Yes but as a 2nd to 4th rd pick. I liked his versatility. Not sure if he’ll be what I thought he would be in the NFL. He might always be a solid role player. We’ll see.
WOW!!! What an ending!!!

YUP! I agree with ya 100%, Pigster. And happy to know my memory is still long and strong.
Mike,
Actually we usually beat the good teams and get our hopes up only to lose to bad teams and miss out on the playoffs.
that was a nice adjustment to the ball stills made. not sure why tanny would throw into double coverage like that
Looked real risky for sure, but ended up with him being right open. If was Marino we’d assume he knows more about playing QB than us, but yeah it is Tanny. 🙂
any divisional game is a tough game regardless of their record. we are 3-1 in the division which is great. 5-4 in the conference
Waiver wire results for the week come out at 4 PM EST. I was darn sure Hunt would be claimed and early, but Schefter says the GMs he has talked to all claim no one will take him. Still sticking with least one team will. How could the evil genius pass up at a minimum?

Thats not what our record with Tanny + Gase has shown. We have beaten like 2 teams with winning records the whole time he has been a coach. The Bears this year and Pitt in 2016.
Still made a great play on that touchdown. Thats probably his best reception since he has been with us, though the one he caugh in the back corner of the endzone while Oz was the QB was really friggin good too.

We beat the Pats in Miami last year, but I was talking about the general pattern of over the past decade or so, but you’re right about Gase after I relooked at his past games.
I think given the fact that the Bills and Allen have been coming along as an offense, or defense did pretty good holding them to 17 but we almost got fucked at the end had that pass had a little more on it. Pass rush had him all over the place and kept him from setting his feet but the secondary didnt really stay with their guys well. Thats not an easy thing to do when things break down and become a freelance thing, but we came way too close to losing for my taste.
Offense really should have been able to do more. That Bills defense isnt very good.
Bills are #2 in the league in total defense and #1 in passing defense. Middle of the road in scoring defense.
Bills have a really good defense
Still looking like 8-8 at this point. 6-6 with 2 hard ones left back to back. The Bills at their place, in late December, isnt going to be fun either, and the Jags defense makes that one kind of scary too. Optimistically 8-8, though i could see anywhere from that and 6-10.
Pretty clear unless we have a movie finish that won’t be playoffs. 9-7 might let us sneak in, but don’t think anyone on this board is looking at a drive through the playoffs even then. Just hoping the team shows some grit and hope for the future. And yeah that most especially includes Tanny. Let him go all crazy and see what happens.
Patriots will be looking for home field through the playoffs, still doable, especially if they win out. Vikes are still in the playoff hunt, so they should give us a tough game. The Jaguars have checked out already, but that defense could give our O-line fits, so you can’t count that as an easy one. The Bills at home will be looking for revenge, definite bad blood between our two teams, and I’ll tell you one thing, Jason Allen was looking for calls after a few hits, and I was pretty surprised he didn’t get them. That won’t fly when we’re in Buffalo, that’s for sure. I could see us losing 3 of 4, or even 4 of the last 4. That said, I liked our approach this game. Let Tanny throw the ball downfield, good things can happen, even on throws that weren’t that great.
I see the last 4 the same way you do, Mike. Although at the same time, these games are all winnable too. We always give the Pets fits in Miami. Minnesota is all over the place as are the Jags, and Buffalo is Buffalo.
We could go 0-4 or we could win out, lol.
Yeah, depends on which Gase shows up any particular week, the one that’s a like a 5 YR old kid who’s bubble happy, or the one that takes the training wheels off Tannehill
Here is an odd thing. Baltimore leads the league in scoring defense at 17.8 points a game, which isn’t unusual for them. What is odd, is they are 3rd worst in the league with only 9 total takeaways. Only 9 takeaways, yet best total defense and best scoring defense. Pretty impressive.
“Every time I made a play, I clapped my hands. And it was directed toward them. For some reason, they felt the need to run at me, and they paid for it. I would’ve liked to come out of here with a win but Gase definitely respects me after this game.”
— Jordan Phillps, who was real happy after the loss even though helped set up the winning TD.
Gase respects me after this game . . . lol . . . Delusional
Sorta gives you a bit more insight into why he did get cut. Obviously we needed his body, but maybe not the mind that came with.
Moronic man-child. I was watching his antics thinking “this guy needs to grow up”. I can only guess as to what Gase thought, but I’m sure it wasn’t “geez, I really respect this guy now” lol.
Kind of understand why we got rid of him now
Seriously Jordan? LOL
I didn’t know McCarthy was fired and Philbin interim, I thought that was a rumor. LOL
No now Philbin can ruin Aaron Rodgers career
Rodgers has looked real pedestrian recently. I also have him in FF and he’s not scoring like he once did.
I think when it comes to throwing the ball down the field that is all about protection. There was a stretch in the game yesterday when we couldn’t throw it down the field because we couldn’t hold blocks for more than a second. When we did have time, we did hit on some chunk yard pass plays.
Bah, humbug! Tannehill was getting hit on every other play, yet Gase decided to let him throw downfield anyway. It’s the recipe for success. So many things can happen, pass interference, defensive holding or a reception or on the bad side, incomplete or intercepted. I think in today’s game, the good outweighs the bad. He has to continue letting Tannehill throw the ball downfield
Oh I agree but we have to do a better job blocking. There was a point in the game yesterday after the first drive that I wasn’t sure we would score again because Tannehill had no time and the run was meh. We made some adjustments though and scored enough.
McCarthy wont be unemployed very long
Where do you think he lands, with the Jets?
Rumors are Browns already.
Tom
Odds are the blocking won’t get much better, but regardless, it was so much more fun to watch yesterday, it really was.
LOL @ Tom
Tim,
A second? You always exaggerate how long Tanny has to pass. Plus, do you ever watch any other NFL games? It’s a league wide issue, and QBs are lucky to get a couple seconds to make a play. Its not like tanny is experiencing something most other QBs don’t. Then, add in his lack of awareness and poor movement inside the pocket, and you have your answer to why he constantly looks harrassed. He’s part of the problem but you never mention that. You must miss it.
I’m not making excuses for Tannehill. There was a stretch in the game where we were getting killed with blitzes and stunts. Sacks, hits, tipped passes. James Lofton was pointing it out because it was happening. There was no sliding in the pocket because it came from everywhere. The run game was getting tripped up because of it too. I think you missed it. 😉
Can we ever talk about the game as it was without it having to be just about Tannehill? It would have happened to any QB back there because it was a blocking issue not a QB issue during that stretch I’m referring to. The OL were also getting called for multiple penalties during that stretch because they were struggling. We punted 4 straight times with 1 yard of offense during those 4 possessions before scoring on a short field off the muffed punt by BUF.
Like I said we made some adjustments and it was then more manageable.
And yes other QBs deal with stuff like that too and that’s when they struggle to move the ball. It’s happening more often to Aaron Rodgers these days. It happened to Drew Brees on Thursday night. It happened to Luck yesterday as well with the Colts getting shutout 6-0.
I see Brady standing around for 7 seconds pretty frequently….
Poppycock! It’s all Tannehills fault. The EYE BALL test says so…..
Now I feel better Tim. 🙂
🙂
never once have I ever claimed that it’s all on Tannehill. I ripped the o-line many times. If you guys want to make it all about Tannehill that’s fine have at it. Cry all you like
I was talking about a stretch in the game where BUF defenders were beating our OL off the snap and into the backfield in under two seconds meaning we only had them blocked for about a second before they had free access to the QB or RB.
Your response was “You always exaggerate how long Tanny has to pass.” So yeah you made it about him when I was talking about a blocking issue we were having. Not sure how you didn’t see it if you watched the game. The announcers were even talking about it.
WOW! With the win yesterday the Dolphins DOUBLED the odds of making the playoffs!!
They went from 3% to 6% LOL
I always liked Charles Clay
😛
Randy,
I think that’s what ultimately limits Tannehill’s ceiling is his inability to extend plays when he gets pressured in the pocket. He doesn”t sense pressure too well, and rarely escapes the pocket when it does collapse. He’s solid and there aren’t any obvious upgrades out there via trade or FA.
From what it sounds like, I’d prefer we roll with Tannehill/Gase next season and target a QB early in 2020 where there are more intriguing guys. I’m not enamored with anyone in the 2019 class unless we can get them in the mid or late rounds.
Least think we should bring in some QB for next year, even if just a solid back-up vet or 2nd or 3rd or 4th round guy to groom.
I was wrong on that. Guess he will get paid a lot more after his suspension is over and walks in as a FA.
drg,
If Tannehill is the future at QB for Miami, we’re going nowhere because he doesn’t make others better. 8 win seasons will continue to be the norm until we get a last place schedule where our opponents are like 55-105 again.
Stanger,
I’d love us to draft a guy late and groom him. There are a few diamonds in the rough we could invest a late round pick in. Currently, I don’t see anyone out there worth 10+ million that I’d want here long term. I’d prefer not to throw away an entire season riding with a 5 million Osweiller type, so Tannehill seems like the best option and gives us a chance to make the playoffs if things go well.
I have always assumed Tanny would be our starting QB opening game 2019. And that includes even if we break the draft bank to trade way up. There will be another QB though.
Tim,
You constantly rip the OL. Should I get whiny about that and claim you always make it about the OL? We were playing backups and backups’ backups yesterday on the OL. Tanny should have anticipated that his protection might be hit and miss and been ready to move or know he would have to get rid of the ball and live to fight another day if need be. Brady does it all the time. Tanny played OK yesterday, but he still struggles sensing and avoiding pressure and getting rid of the ball instead of taking a sack…in year 7. Help your OL out once in awhile. Throw the damn ball away.

And now I will stop talking about Tannehill. Lol
Not true, I’ve also given them credit when they’ve played well.
My initial post about this was the following and Mike’s reply:

I’m sorry but that’s what I saw. Why do you think they kept mentioning what a rough day Jesse Davis was having specifically against Kyle Williams. Then they started adding additional blitzers at times and we were struggling to pick them up. Then we started getting called for holding because of it.
Even on the short TD pass to Drake in the flat where he had to wait on the ball because Tannehill put a big arc on it was because a corner blitzed it and jumped up to try and bat it down or pick it off so Tannehill had to throw it even higher. The Bills were really coming after us a lot after our successful first drive for a TD and it took us awhile to adjust to it.
This is just discussing the game. Not blaming anyone or defending anyone, just revisiting what happened and discussing with Mike about throwing the ball down the field more. We struggled with that with Osweiler as well. When he took deeper drops he got pressured and sacked a lot. That’s a protection issue. I think Gase would love to see us throw it down the field more but sometimes we can’t. That’s why we need the run game to be better to set those up off play-action.

Another waste of a 2nd rounder for us.
Part of that bad 2013 draft that has not one player left on the team. A few of them hung around for a few years but none of them panned out. Sigh…
Yeah, man… that was a most pitiful draft for us. Sad!

😆
That was the play where Allen was running around deep in the pocket doing his best Fran Tarkenton impression. So that whole play was busted and a scramble for everyone. I don’t blame Clay for not catching that ball as it was fluttering and dying in the air as this video shows.
Crazy finish as we seem to always be involved in those last minute and last second nail biters. LOL
Randy,
Are there any QBs coming out this year that you think are worth the investment? If it’s someone likely to go top 10 we are talking at least two first round picks to acquire him. Any FAs or trades worth considering?
Tim,
So you’re saying you finally believe me when I say Davis ain’t all that good? Lol
Yeah I said that yesterday. He’s solid some games but can really struggle against good DTs. He might be better as a swing G/T than a starter. We have to get better on the interior OL. Hopefully we can get a season out of Kilgore and Sitton next season and add an upgrade at RG.
drg,
I have not looked at any QBs in depth yet. They are usually the last position I look at because I hate it! That said, my belief on drafting QBs is that it’s probably gonna cost you a lot, and you have to take a chance when it’s there because you, hopefully, aren’t in the top 10 often. If I’m in the top 10 and I need a QB, I try to get one. There are no guarantees with any players and QBs are probably the worst. I do think…with what little I know about this class….that several have a chance to be just as good as Tanny if not better, in time. Expecting a rookie QB to come in and play as well as a 7 year vet is ridiculous. To me, it’s not whether or not a kid we draft will be better than Tanny next year. It’s can he be better in 2 or 3 years. Sitting around waiting for that “sure thing” makes no sense because who knows when one of those guys will be there to get?

Precedence has been set, and shortly after Jaylon Smith got tore up in his Bowl game.
I don’t really like this trend, but I can understand why. And for those clamoring about QBs in the ’19 Draft class, let’s see how they do in their Bowl games… it’s VERY important as to how they handle the spotlight and pressure of a big game.
No amount of newer or better players are going to make Gase a better coach.
They canceled “Daredevil”? WTF?
M13,
I kinda disagree. Teams are drafting QBs on athletic talent and potential more than ever. Heck, even Tanny was drafted with, what, 19 games played? It seems the trend is moving towards drafting guys who they think they can develop over guys who have proven their worth in college. It’s no longer about getting guys who were 4 year starters.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to, man. I was talking about Bowl games… not the Senior Bowl.
The Senior Bowl isn’t a true “Bowl” game that factors into FBS rankings, stats, etc.
Randy,
Agree with everything you said. I don’t think any of the QBs show much more potential than Tannehill. I want to draft a guy with a much higher ceiling than where Tannehill has peaked at. 2020 looks much more optimistic. That said, what do I know? If there’s a guy they love then go get him, regardless of the cost.

Where do you think he lands, with the Jets?

No the Dolphins
For next year? You think they’re going to can Gase after this season?
M13,
I just meant that how players perform in bowl games is becoming less important. Teams are drafting QBs based on what they think they can become….not so much what they showed in college.
Alright, I hear ya on that. However, I think it depends on the team/GM/scouting department. I, for sure, would like to know how a QB — the most important position on the field — handles a BIG GAME. Will he shrink or will he shine?
I’m old school, though!

HUGE hit to the Bengals’ Offense.
Yeah and they lost Dalton for the year too.
Tim – So the Mets trade with the Mariners is now official. Cano and Diaz will be introduced tomorrow at 11AM at Citi Field
Okay then, hope it pans out. I suppose Diaz throws hard?
Do you guys think Gase gets hired by the Packers for next year?
Nope, it would be difficult and not allowed to coach two teams. 😉
Yeah, after we trade Tannehil to them lol
Green Bay really doesn’t have as many weapons as us on offense. Trade Tannehill and our #1 for Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers are said to be looking for a young QB centric HC who will let Rodgers call his own game a la Peyton Manning who did it at Denver when … wait for it … Gase was his OC.
A FEW RANDOM thoughts on the Bills @ Miami game from someone WHO WAS THERE!!
1) With one exception, Bills’ fans were MUCH more agreeable and affable than usual. 4 guys in row in front of me (all Bills fans who flew in for the game) were easy to get along with and very easy to talk to! Actually, in section 120, Buffalo fans outnumbered Miami fans. Overall, I’d say roughly 40 per cent of those attending were Buffalo fans. And about 1/4 of the seats stayed unoccupied the entire game.
2) Guy who weighed about 350 was wearing a bright red with blue trim #64 Richie Incognito Bills’ jersey!! I thought about trying to buy it from him as a gift to YOUNG STANGER. But then I asked myself “do I REALLY WANT to see this huge tub of lard walking around shirtless?”
3) Bad day for the Fins running game. O-Line REALLY stunk!!
4) Last play almost gave me a heart attack!!!! We were lucky to win this game, REALLY LUCKY!!
———
But it was a very merry ride back to Tampa Bay!! – – NOTHING LIKE winning a game against a division opponent!!! –I HOPE we get at least one more win against an AFC East opponent THIS
SEASON!! But I would NOT bet on it.

OUT for tonight. This old man is STILL TIRED!!
SON: Me and my Brother-in-Law watched UCF’s epic comeback win over MEMPHIS on television. IT WAS AMAZING!!!
Congrats to you and your team!!–Hope they beat LSU!!

Nahh,
but if you want to get a proven coach that’s how you would do it, you wait till some team dumps their great coach, like Philly did with Andy reid and then you jump on him..
when you get fed up with your present coach and you fire him most of the time pickens are slim for a replacement. you get back on the merry go round with an unproven coach.
McCarthy is a proven winner, not sure if there’s more to it than McCarthy. who knows maybe he’s not that good but normally coaching is the difference between winning and losing
