Dolphins news, coaching changes, 2019 season outlook

I feel the need to reiterate a feeling I have made clear previously. So much is going around now with the FLA media about the Dolphins plans to tank the 2019 season. I think this is getting completely overblown. I don’t think for a second that new HC Brian Flores is coming here with a mandate from the owner to try and lose as many games as he can in order to procure a top pick in a QB rich 2020 draft. That AIN’T happening! I really wish that whole idea would just go away. Here’s what I do believe is the mandate, and take it for what it is, just one guy’s opinion.

What I do believe the plan is for 2019, is to not spend big money on free agent players, especially at the QB position. I think we will add our talent in the draft, and not necessarily a 1st RD pick, unless the QB we really want is available at our pick #13. I don’t think we’re going to trade up, I think we’re trying to get this roster as good as it can be, and therefore won’t be trading away any of our draft picks. In fact, my thought is we will be trading a few veteran players that can bring back some value and help us round out a nice haul in this year’s and next year’s draft. Ryan Tannehill, Reshad Jones, Devante Parker, Danny Amendola and Robert Quinn will be offered for trades to give us some additional draft capital. Most importantly, I think we’ll stay away from any free agent QB’s.

If we do as I say, and don’t sign a stopgap QB, that would mean a QB stable of our newly drafted 2019 QB, Luke Falk and Jake Rudock. All this doesn’t mean we’re trying to lose, but realistically, if we follow that path, it’s going to be much harder to win. I felt last season once the entire draft process was over that Baker Mayfield was the best QB in that draft. Mayfield went to a pretty talented CLE roster and only managed 6 wins. Sam Darnold got the Jets 4 wins, Josh Allen 5 wins, and finally Josh Rosen 3 wins. That’s the cream of the crop of what was considered a strong QB class, and the best outcome was 6 wins. What I’m trying to say is, it’s not trying to lose, it’s not easy to win under those circumstances. That’s not tanking, it’s truly rebuilding, and there’s nothing wrong with it.

Sadly, we will say goodbye to our longtime Special Teams coach Darren Rizzi. Unfortunately, once Rizzi interviewed for the HC position here, it made the likelihood of him returning as ST’s coach very slim. A newly hired HC wouldn’t want to compete with a coach who knows the players very well, and one that is already very well liked and respected the players. That’s too much to ask, and after any failure for the team, Rizzi’s name would surface as a replacement, and that just can’t work. The same scenario played out in CLE with Freddie Kitchens and Gregg Williams. Once Kitchens got the HC gig, Williams was out. He was out not because they could find a better DC than Williams, but because of the same conflict.

So 2019 will be a year of responsible team management, and hopefully we won’t fall back into the pitfalls of trying to get that one player that will put us over the top, because no one player can do that. Just get young talent at every position, solidify the roster, and with the purging of the expensive contracts, at some point we will hopefully be competitive and ready to make a playoff run, and at that point we should be flush with cap money to make a couple of important free agent acquisitions that put us over the top. This may happen 2 or 3 years down the line, so this will require patience from the owner Steve Ross, the coaching staff, and of course, the fans. I don’t count on 1 and 3 doing their part by any means, but hopefully, both can pull through as we ascend after finally doing things right here in Miami.

On vacation in Gatlinburg going skiing in an hour. So beautiful here. Still had to have the feeling of being in Florida though so we are staying at margaritaville in Gatlinburg. Lol

  1. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

If we part ways with Amendola who I like. He is tough smart and good route runner. But I really like Hunter Renfro who would fill that role perfectly. Also don’t think we need to draft a RB like Singleton. As talented as he is, I think Wilson and Grant could be utilized out of the backfield. I wanted to see more of that last year.

  2. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I can See Flores keeping Amendola at least one more year to help the transition to the “Patriots South way”

  3. We wallow in mediocrity because of the way things are done. We had a coach in Gase who was bringing in washed up players like Julius and Foster as starters. Same thing on the o-line, d-line, LB, etc. To try and win games now.

  4. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Good write, Mike! I agree! I really wish the media would just let the new coaching staff when it’s “official” do their jobs without this idea that they must fail for the glory of some almighty college QB in 2020. It’s silly.

  5. Signing guys to short-term contracts and cutting them loose after a year isn’t going to give you any consistency. And then they repeat the process.

  6. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

For those who want that big NT, I don’t think you go out and spend a first round pick on one like Lawrence or Wilkins from Clemson. I feel we need an impact player in a DE or LB in the first round. I feel that big NT will only play 15-20 snaps at most to include short yardage sits. I think you could get one in the 4th round like Ed Alexander from LSU 6’3” 331 or Olive Sagapolu 6’2” 342 from Wisconsin in 6th round.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The difference between some of the DTs at the top of the list and guys like Ed Alexander is pretty enormous

I agree you can get DTs later but we have guys like that in Goxcheux and Taylor

Some of the guys at the top of the draft are far superior

I don’t think they are as good as Aaron Dinald or Suh in his prime but they are very far off that – they can actually bring consistent pressure up the middle and that’s a huge benefit to a defense

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Rock, I agree with you on Amendola

  8. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Oh, great write MikeE off to the slops bbl

  9. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I understand Piggy but would rather us draft Ed Oliver in the 1st who would be a real impact player as a 3-4 DE then get NT later.

Ok, wife’s yelling at me, bbl

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I see your point now

I actually don’t think you need a NT in the 1st either

But whether a 4-3 or 3-4I think a player like Oliver is worth a 1st, as are a few other DTs

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

BBM – Say hello to NJ Phin Fan, he lives in Gatlinburg. I have no idea where though. lol

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Ever try to get him back? His main reasons for not being so are long gone.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I made it clear that he’s welcome, asked him to come check it out and visit, I think he’s just moved on from blogging. He seems like a pretty busy guy. I know he had a restaurant for a while, but now i think he’s into a different business venture.

  11. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Mike E — your take is similar to mine as far as the likely approach as far as the roster, except think we will have either Tanny or some FA QB we (or make that “me” to make it clear a name) have heard of who will either start or compete with someone we draft.

Do wonder exactly how complete the rebuild will be. Reshad is my canary in the coal mine on that. A guy like Wake is gone than who knows, but if Reshad traded for a pick rather than a player…. that’s all in on building for the future.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Wake is a FA at the moment, and if it were me, I wouldn’t sign Wake. I love him, I think he’s a consummate professional, but to what end do we sign him? A 2 YR deal for $18-20M? I don’t see the logic in it. That’s making a decision with your heart and not your business head. If you’re really pressing the reset button, Jones should be looked at as a trade asset IMO. If you can’t what you want for him, you don’t have to move him, but i think you try for sure.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Figure only reason Wake is here is if he wants to keep playing, but doesn’t want to move and join a new team…. and that includes a discount. Makes no financial sense for us and career sense for him.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

So btwn you and MIke E– he knows and his choice. Not surprised what’s going on in politics offers the same thrill for him. Not even sure which side he would be on, but can guarantee is most distinctly one or the other. 🙂

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – He leans far to the right, and yes, he’s very distinctly on that side, and he makes sure everyone knows it, every 5 minutes or so. Sonny is correct, FB is his new social media experience of choice, not blogging.

  13. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Someone offers a Khalil Mack kind of trade for Howard. Who takes it?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think you have to make that trade. It was 2 consecutive years of 1st RD picks along with a 3rd RD in 2020 and a 6th RD in 2020, but it would be Howard and our 2019 2nd RD pick, and conditional 5th RD in 2020

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I would accept 2 first rounders for anyone on the roster including Howard

  14. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

2 firsts and the Steelers throw in Dobbs then maybe.

  15. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Top tier CB is worth at least as much as a pass rushing LB

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Mack had a better, longer resume. More consistent. Howard has had one breakout year, and one uneven year, and only one season where he started all 16 games. mack was a 16 game starter 4 times. Not really comparable

  16. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

11 INT in his last 17 games. Someone will pay it.

  17. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Phelon – Howard will generate a lot of interest, but no team is going to give us a bounty like that. He may not even garner one 1st RD pick.

  18. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

I would hate it. Open a hole sending away a young player that Grier was involved with drafting. Doesn’t make sense to me.

  19. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Howard has one year left on his contract. How much is that one year worth to us or some other team? Yeah we could re-sign him, but we’d be paying close to what he would get as a FA. Total rebuild and he is in play…. but then what player on any team is actually untradeable other than one who might retire instead?

  20. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Not saying it will happen, but it could. Mike – I disagree. I think he could bring 2 firsts.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Hey man, we’ll see. We probably won’t see, because I don’t think we’re going to trade him, but if we want to get two 1st RDers, we have to trade him before the draft.

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Phelon – Marcus Peters had a better resume, and 2 years left on his contract, Chiefs only got a 4th and a 2nd the following year. Peters had 19 INT’s, Howard has 11

  22. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Yes, but Peters was a kneeler. No one is paying a lot for a potential locker room cancer.

  23. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

The right offer, nobody should be safe.

  24. Randy's avatar Randy says:

If somebody wants to give us 2 first round picks for Howard, which I think is very doubtful, I say thank you very much.

  25. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Mike E

Peters has been exceptionally on the field most of his career IMO
He was particularly impressive as a rookie

but yeah he’s always been a head case
Its not one or 2 things
    it goes back to college

th chiefs suspended him at least one that I can remember

I would probably say its reasonable to expect he continues to be a head case

    the chiefs traded Peters for a 4th in 18 and a 2nd in 19

  26. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The store is open in Rockphin’s GM land. Everyone is available for trade at the right price.

The right price being, of course, greater than the perceived value. Blow my socks off. The player is yours.

  27. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Me too, Rock. I’m jealous of the Raiders having 3 first round picks.

  28. New Age's avatar New Age says:

So, what’s the lowest trade total people would take for Howard in our hypothetical discussion? I wouldn’t take less than a 1st and a 3rd-maybe high 4th.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That would depend on whether we have intentions of signing him to a multi year contract, and where his demands were. If we tried to negotiate, but got nowhere, I’d take a 1st RD pick and be done with it, if it were offered.

  29. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

If we could get two #1s for Howard we should deliver him with a bow tie, didn’t we get a 4th for Landry?

  30. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I think Oakland will make out better than chicago on that mack deal

  31. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Howard is still on his rookie deal, 2 mil this year, he may hold out, i heard he wants to be the highest paid corner in the league. Miami may hold a 5th year option on him so he is a valuable trade asset

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Only first round picks get the fifth year option. We have the Franchise tag if needed.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

could he sit out 2019 and be a free agent in 2020? if so Miami may have their hands full with him like pitt with bell.
he’ll probably want some where north of 40 mil guaranteed, avg 15 mil per season.

he most likely will be traded

  32. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

how about trading up with the raiders, giving them this year and next years 1st and throw in a 2nd to draft Haskins???

  33. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Just say no to Suh. Unless he comes back at the vet minimum.

  34. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Getting rid of Suh instead of Tannehill is why Gase is in New York now.

  35. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Suh, his contract, and his freelancing had to go.

  36. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Miami needs a rebuild. Can’t change the losing culture by keeping the same people. Change is good.

  37. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m jealous of having 3 first rounders too

but the draft is very workable for us

We can easily end up with 3 picks in the top 50
or even 4 picks in the top 60 if you work in a trade down (from the first) and then a trade up (from the 3rd)

I always think late first to mid 2nd is the sweet spot of the draft
You might not get a blue chip player but you can get probowl players
and if you bring enough probolw players in at the same time – that’s usually going to be a good team when they are at there peaks

It doesn’t really work well when you drafta QB early
but if the draft is focused on DL and interior OL – and you end up with 4 good players from Day 1 and day 2 – that’s a good result

The draft is deep this year on the DL and its pretty good on OL too
So if you are picking from a deep pool – you are increasing your odds

    Oilver is one guy
but when you work in the entire Clemson DL, Tillery (ND), Gary (UM), Dra’Monte Jones (OSU), Burns (FSU), Allen (BC), Allen (UK), Polite (UF) Sweat (MSU), Buggs (Bama), Willis (UM)and Winovich (UM)

You can rebuild the entire DL whether or not you are a 3-4 or 4-3

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I say that bit about the sweet spot of the draft every year BTW

We drafted Howard in that sweet spot

      • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Minkah is before the sweet spot, he’s pretty good. I’m a stay or go up guy.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Last year – on draft day, I didn’t want to trade back as I recall

It really depends on the board at the time

but the difference between 13 and 8 is significant and sometimes out of range for the elite prospects

We drafted Tunsil at 13 – but that was usual
we drafted Parker at 14 and Pouncey at 15
and I’m not sure guys drafted 10 spots behind them weren’t better players

  38. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t ever want to see Suh back in a Dolphins uniform. He’s the classic “me” player, not team player. Why isn’t LA trying to keep Suh?

  39. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It makes sense for us to re-sign Suh when you consider that I never bought his jersey

When he was gone I said to myself “well at least I stopped myself from buying that jersey”

Since this franchise is hell bent on fucking me over – they are likely to bring him back

  40. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Season isn’t over yet, but the Knicks have managed to reach the bottom, the worst record in the NBA. Now THAT is tanking

  41. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Why isn’t LA trying to keep Suh?

because they realize that 36 tackles and 4.5 sacks is not worth 14 million. Never was, never will be.

50 D linemen had more tackles last year.
50 D linemen had more sacks last year.

But let’s go ahead and back up the brinks truck for him again. SMH

Now some knuckle head is going to claim that Aaron Donald’s 20.5 sacks this year can be attributed to Suh’s effort.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

He nearly doubled his sack production from last year (which was his highest)

Don’t you think the guy next to him had an impact?

  42. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Suh isnt coming back. Would go against everything they are seemingly setting up to do.
Just start getting the draft right and keep our own with the money.
    Oh…..and QBs….

  43. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush…

Unless we can get two 1st rounders for Xavien (we won’t), keep him here. And keep in mind… those two 1st rounders are worth two in bush: the Draft is a crap shoot.

  44. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

ER – I haven’t cared much about basketball, it’s my 3rd favorite sport to watch, but once upon a time, I was a huge Knicks fan., They’ve been mismanaged for so long, I lost interest, but this could be the turning point.

Pats make no sense cause always about the most expensive ticket. So a it less than 50%. Hope dates line up for the Chargers or Bengals. Those teams don’t travel well…. which yeah means better seats. Ravens and Buff are middling, not so sure about Eagles or Redskins.

A guy on our roster,Falk, has those qualities but his arm strength is not really nfl top tier

Most of the nfl elite QBs have great arm strength

But you need a big arm in the nfl IMO

I don’t think he’s suggesting a lack of arm strength is no big deal, just that a big arm without accuracy isn’t going to amount to much.

Someone else around here said that accuracy was the most important thing when evaluating a QB, I just can’t remember who that was though???

    Dwayne Haskins 70% completion %

  75. I guess O’Shea was pretty much saying Tannehill isn’t the guy. Great arm strength but can’t hit the broadside of a barn.

  76. When you talk about arm strength AND accuracy it’s one of the reasons why I think we should be looking at David Blough. When a qb can complete a pass across the field from the far hash that’s pretty darn good and when he can drop dimes over the shoulder of a wr into the corner of the endzone that’s pretty darn good as well.

  77. I don’t think there’s any doubt when you look at Jeffery Simmons play at Miss St. that he’s probably the most disruptive interior defensive lineman in college football. He’s the one player I’d like to see Miami get in the first rd.

I’ve harped on the qb position but we really need to get our interior d-line up to snuff and begin to stop the run and become a top tier defense. Solidify the lines and Simmons is a great place to start.

MR. SPIKES: Thanks for running those vids of DEVIN SINGLETARY yesterday. MOST of the country has NO IDEA about his prowess as a running back. I’m hoping that the “most of the country” comment doesn’t include the Dolphins’ scouting department which, IMHO, has done a piss-poor job of getting talent out of both FAU and FIU, the two local members of Conference USA. As HERD can confirm, C-USA has a history of putting many players on NFL rosters (Pennington and Randy Moss, etc.). Unfortunately, our favorite team seems to have “missed the boat,” historically, as I don’t recall a single player from either of these two programs ever playing for the Dolphins.

Well, we’ve got a new regime now. Maybe things will change.

  89. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Golfers rotate they dont sway, the tighter you keep your rotation the more likely you are to hit the ball, also when you come to impact make sure the back of your left hand is facing the ground.
that will give you forward shaft lean and make it a lot easier to make good contact.

Mike, take a belt or strap or rope and tie it around your chests and right bicep then swing without swaying. Shift your weight to the back foot going back and then into the left side of your left foot coming down and follow through to the target.

The gist I’m getting about this season is they’re not going to sign FAs to help them win immediately and the focus will be on player development and building a young nucleus moving forward. It’s doesn’t mean they’ll be awful, just not very good.

Not sure I completely understand this. Are you saying to turn your hands over as you’re striking the ball?
    ___________________________________
you want your left hand to go past the ball before contact, when you come down point the back of your left hand at the ground thru impact, you have to do it to get use to it.
players that don’t do this are “flipping” at impact.
they are flipping their wrist at impact, that causes a number of bad issues…poor contact and usually a slice.

to hit the ball correctly you have to hit down on it. holding the back of your left hand down at impact will let you achieve that.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

OK, that’s probably one of the reasons I hit the ball so poorly. Just one, I have a few other problems too I’m sure.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m going to watch that when I get home. When I go away in July, all the guys go out and golf one day, and I always stay back. I would like to join them someday, and be able to hit the ball. Right now, I know I can’t, so I don’t want to slow them down. I want my wife to take lessons too, so we can go together.

  94. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – So how does us signing Suh fit in with that philosophy?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think that’s happening. That rumor started because Suh said he wouldn’t mind returning to Mamii and that he loves Ross. That doesn’t mean he’s in our plans and I don’t think he is.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we traded our 1st rd pick this year for say a 2nd rd pick this year and a 1st next year to have extra ammo to target a QB. You can start the rebuilding process with 2a., 2b., 3, 4, 5, 6, 7a., 7b., 7c. We could add to that if we can trade some vets.

To me I think Grier wants to get the cap in good shape, bring in players that fit what the coaches want to do, but not with the mindset that we have to have contend this year. Compete, yes, but going all out to contend in 2019, no.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think Ryan Fitzpatrick would be a waste of time. He’s 36 years old. I hope they roll with younger QBs.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I completely agree with Tim. I’d rather run with Falk or Rudock, or the QB we draft, if we draft one. I see no point in getting Fitzpatrick.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think Fitzpatrick is more of an example
the idea is a journeyman cheap vet – rather than bringing in the franchise in 2019
there are a couple of QBs that fit this mold

I don’t worry so much that Fitzpatrick is 36

I can predict what will happen if we brought him in

He will play well through Oct then he will come back to Earth
And that’s probably not so bad for a team without playoff expectation who is looking for their franchise QB

just bring in a guy who ca be a team leader win a few games

Its also not crazy for the Dolphins to draft QBs in 2019 and 2020

but really don’t force brining in the QB in 2019
the 2020 call is much better than the 2019

I’ve done a 180 on that issue – about a month ago, I argued this class was deep
With some of the guys staying in school and after closer review – after Haskins, I’m not sure spending a first on the other names is worth it

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’d rather they bring in a younger vet that actually might have a chance to surprise and be part of the future rather than a QB like Ryan Fitzpatrick who will not be part of the future.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I wouldn’t bank on a younger vet becoming our franchise QB

it doesn’t matter if the vet we bring (if any) is 30 or 36
they won’t be in Miami for more than 2 years

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

But a younger QB has a chance to surprise where Ryan Fitzpatrick will likely be out of the league in a couple of years. I’m not saying the younger vet QB will turn out to be special, but Fitzpatrick has no shot.

  95. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

the reason i bring that up is flipping is a common mistake, most players flip, i see it all the time. and how they combat this is to set up very closed and come inside to keep from blowing it right, it also robs them of power.

i start with a cupped left wrist, when i get to the top i turn the back of my left hand to the sky and as i come down i maintain that angle pointing it to the ground and thru impact to a straight line release about a foot after the ball.

if you’re a beginner and you do this you will soon be better than a lot of players who have been playing for years.

common mistake is thinking you have to flip your wrist thru impact to get the most speed but the reality is you want your wrist quiet thru impact. and you want a forward shaft lean

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ha, I just read that. In that article they focus on Jerome Baker being the key LB.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Baker and McMillan are two of the pieces that work in the hybrid

but we probably need a guy like Malcoln Brown
and we need a guy like Hightower (if not 2 hightowers) that can bring some pressure

Would it be crazy to walk away from the draft with 2 “edge” guys and 2 “DL” guys picked fairly early

        I don’t think so

That’s the direction I would go in given the depth of this draft and I would try to nape some interior OL help too

QB would be something that comes into play after those needs unless you are really sold on a guy being your franchise or some one good drops to the 2nd or 3rd round

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I still think Tim is wrong though

      😀

  97. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, I’m pretty sure we’re going to target the trenches this offseason. That’s where you start with a rebuild.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Godchaux, Taylor, Harris, McMillan and Baker along with some of our secondary is a pretty good young nucleus to build on with the defense.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You’re including Harris in that group? He hasn’t done a damn thing yet, maybe year 3?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yes. His numbers don’t show much but he has shown flashes in a rotation playing behind vets. I expect him to start and/or play a lot in 2019 so we’ll see where it goes. Also a new coaching staff with the focus on young players and development may be exactly what Harris needs as he enters his 3rd season. Instead of playing in a standard 4-3 system, maybe the new staff uses him in a way that plays to his strengths – some OLB, some DE, stunting etc. I still believe he can become a good player. But he has to take the next step and make more of an impact soon or he’ll become an afterthought.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You’re too easily pleased. I don’t want flashes, I want him to make plays, not almost make plays. Until he does, he’s not a building piece yet.
