Earthlings aren’t the only ones that get to see Alien Tombs on their planet. I’ve been setting up tombs for a few centuries now.
I have a great recipe for it.
First you set up a tour in the tomb. Then when the tourists get lost in the maze…you seal the tomb. Then let it rest for about a century.
And when you come back, you have a bunch of fresh fossils to show off!!!
The waiting is the hardest part. I like to pass time by watching tape of the 2018 Clemson Defensive Line. Man were they loaded! Clelin Ferrell maybe their top defender!
The Pros: Ferrell was a force in 2017 and I was getting ready to write a report on him last year, when he decided to stay in school. As part of the 2018 Tigers, he was a part of one of the most talented defensive lines I can remember.
9.5 sacks in 2017 and 11.5 sacks in 2018 make up an impressive statical line to boast about. Ferrell used his 6-5, 260 pound farm to wreak havoc on ACC Quarterbacks and he took that ferocity into the NCAA postseason where he helped Clemson secure the title.
Ferrell plays with his hand in the ground most of the time at Clemson but he does have the athleticism to rush from a 2 pt. stance. He’s one of the few players I have seen that were highly outed in the 2018 offseason and improved his stock by staying in school.
The Cons: That Clemson defensive line was really talented and when there is so much talent across the entire DL, people tend to speculate that the talent helped each other. But when it comes down to it – Ferrell was a big reason the DL was so talented.
Ferrell has a serious ACL injury in 2014. It looks like he has fully recovered.
The Alien Dust: Ferrell has been consistently good. There is a chance he is the first pass rusher off the board if teams have concerns about Bosa – so seems like a long shot to make it to 13. But if he does, he will be an excellent addition to the Dolphins. I don’t see a more complete Defensive End.

Being that we’re in rebuild mode and not targeting a specific position other than obviously looking for a QB, we can just sit at #13 and take the best player on our board. There’s plenty of talent in the 1st rd this year.

So this AAF league that Bill Polian helped start is kind of a developmental farm system for NFL teams to pluck from. He said college and the NFL doesn’t do a good enough job developing QBs and OL. So this might be interesting to see if some lower tier or long shot QBs show more than what NFL teams thought of them. Also getting more developed OL would be good for the league since more than half the league has OL issues.
It’s also an experimental league for rules.
What you might see too is players who normally end up on practice squads being low draft picks, UDFAs and guys still trying to stick somewhere will likely play in this league and guys who played in the league might start ending up on teams’ practice squads.
It would great if it assisted in the NFL becoming a better game which has been slipping.
Bingo, I enjoyed the transparent booth reviews, mic ed up coaches playcalls, reduced timeouts, 35 second time clocks, reduced commercial breaks.
Also, when Your offense converts a play, and there’s a defensive penalty, You get both, don’t have to decide either or.
So a 8 yard gain with a 15 yard defensive penalty would be a 23 yard play.

Reduced commercial breaks won’t happen in the NFL because of money. Some of the other stuff iffy but maybe a better approach. I don’t like messing with the traditional rules of the game though. Kickoffs, xpts and onside kicks are part of the game. They can all change the outcomes of games. The longer xpts are fine. Kickoffs and onside kicks are exciting and add drama to the game.
Looking at prospects, I like DL Dre’Mont Jones from OSU. He looks like a player who can line up all over the DL.

Murray signed a baseball contract, but has grown up on the football field, and QB is the highest paying position in football.
He is considered to be an elite prospect for QB, could be one of the best in the right situation.
He is shorter than Russel Wilson by an inch, but Oklahoma OL averages 6’5″ and he had no trouble making pinpoint passes and some deep ones from the pocket. His footwork looks great, which is big imo, a QB with bad pocket presence or bad footwork won’t work around here.
His OK coach says don’t overthink it, he claims
Murray is worthy of the number 1 pick in the draft. He has a limited body of work because Mayfield was ahead of him, but when he got his chance, outplayed Mayfield, and shattered Mayfields accuracy rating and QBR rating according to 24/7 sports

I’ll give ya one more thought regarding Sitton and Kilgore. This would be a very good year to groom a young QB, behind these two decent players on the O-Line (coupled with Tunsil and hopefully James returning).
We certainly wouldn’t want to give a young QB “David Carr Syndrome” (<– OG, by me!).
And so with that stated, if we are to retain Sitton and Kilgore, this may be a clue that we could be targeting a QB early this year in the Draft.

Tim i know it seem counter intuitive, but when you have a draft thats deep in a position, like DL its smarter to use your 1st round pick on something else. In a deep draft you can always come back in a round later and get a guy that was 1st round talent but you got him for a 2nd, or maybe even 3rd if its really deep. If the QB we feel has a chance to lead the team is there at 13, we should make the selection. I wouldnt trade up this year for a guy, but i also wouldnt bypass a QB i felt good about and say well next year ill make a move for my QB. There are no guarantees you get that shot.
Is DL real deep? Know it is first round deep, but good quality in the 2nd and 3rd?
Can at least guarantee that whoever our QB is will want us to keep Sitton and Kilgore. And if you take a young one, best favor you can do to him is not making him gun shy. Those hits are worse than covered wideouts.

I rethought Sitton and KIlgore as possibilities to keep because not sure what’s out there in FA and it’s a difficult task to go too young on the OL all at once. They might be worth using as a transition.
D, I get what you’re saying about drafting a position early that isn’t as deep because you can still get a position that’s deep in the 2nd or another round. I’ve made that point many times before. Teams also approach the draft that way. Like when you see a run on corners.

Biology is at play, DNA, evolution, and race is factored in there, just not in the capacity of intelligence and/or physical prowess. There are reasons why there are discrepancies on both sides as to the number of one race vs another that excel in different areas, and those discrepancies cannot be denied, but one race being more capable, simply based on race, isnt one of them.
I just read something where there is a newish trend in baseball (definitely new to me) where they are using relief pitchers to start games, like a closer, but they are an opener. They do this to cut down on the number of innings the “starter” pitches. Some teams are even starting to take the trend forward and stringing together a bunch of middle relievers instead of having any pitcher that pitches multiple innings. Thats pretty crazy. Is this something thats been happening a lot recently and since i havent been watching as closely dont know about?
I just saw that recently too. It’s strange. Madison Bumgarner said if the Giants do that on a day he’s pitching, he’ll walk right out of the ballpark. LOL

The relief pitching trend started last year in earnest. I can’t remember which AL team it was, but they basically had 4-5 different pitchers slated to pitch in a playoff game, rather than use a starter. It’s not really that crazy, considering how few innings starters throw these days. There are some elite starters that go 7 or more regularly, but so many starters go 5, and then they’re done. The days of the complete game are almost gone.
Yeah i know, but still it seems crazy to me, maybe because it bucking almost 150 years of tradition. Baseball isnt known for its innovation, more for its traditions so thats wild for that sport.
If you are a manager you use your folks like you do. If you know your ace can only go 6 or 7…. why not get the first two or three out of the way to start? Bad game and can save for another day.
Yeah i dont know though. Some of those guys need to start the game, and get a groove going. They dont want to walk in cold to a game. Thats why there have been specialized role, some can do it and others cant. Id be more inclined to just keep them as starters and bring in middle relief earlier so they keep their role than i would completely change the roles of pitchers who have been training their whole lives a certain way.

BTW i think Ferrell will be there at 13. He is good but Bosa (as long as there are no injury concerns) is on a whole other level from Ferrell. Infact this Bosa is probably better than his brother. He’s definately faster off the snap. Rashan Gary, and Montez Sweat to me are better 4-3 DE’s too. If we want a good DE, there will be a really good one at 13, no doubts. If there is a run on QB’s then there will for sure be our choice of a couple at least. I also think if there are a run at a couple of weaker positions we might see one of the top DE’s drop to the second round too.
Kyler Murray is giving back a lot of the money from the A’s as he declared for the NFL Draft and chose football. So the buzz about him will increase.
Drew Brees dropped to the second round (albeit the very top of the second) because of his size. Same thing happened to Russell Wilson. It didnt affect Baker Mayfield, but he also was a little bit bigger (an inch or two) than those other 2. I just dont see the NFL GM’s being easy on him. I think when the draft finally comes around he is going to wind up a late first to a team that can afford to gamble their pick on a guy with a lot of positives but a lot of large obstacles, or he is going to fall to the 2nd or 3rd where someone, just due to his crazy athletic ability, will take him. Im not so sur that who takes him might not want to attempt a conversion project to move him to WR, like an Edleman or Welker.
If there is a team stupid enough to continue doing the conversion thing than good luck to them ever being relevant until they get better management. Brees was in 2001 and a huge mistake. Wilson was in 2012 and a mistake. Looking at the Browns, teams aren’t willing to continue making the size mistake. His flaws aren’t mainly size but small data field, offense built for him, and having more talent around him than everyone else. Can the guy adjust his game? Is his arm strong and accurate enough? How smart is he? These are the real questions. He looked rather pedestrian against Bama and that’s where smart teams will look for his limitations.
I think size still factors in. The NFL might not be as concerned with size but his size being significantly small I still think worries them. You are right though that will have to be a system design specifically for him with a lot of shotgun and pistol formations no under center or very limited under center. They will have to shift the pocket a lot. I think it’s accuracy is probably adequate if not good. I think his arm is adequate if not good. But you’re right that Alabama game will weigh heavily against him. I personally don’t think he’s a good fit for us.
JMO, but I think Kyler Murray is making a huge mistake. And his biggest mistake of all? He’s going all-in on the QB position instead of another position.
Man, he’s incredible to watch and I wish him nothing but success… but I think he may regret this decision.
I think he has to go where his passion is. It would be a much safer choice to play baseball. He could probably have a nice long, lucrative, major injury free career.

The thing is if he’s a 1st or 2nd rd pick, even a 3rd, he’ll make more or what the A’s paid him. He can always go back to baseball if he’s that good. If he doesn’t pan out in either sport, he still made a few million bucks.

Yeah, most people who graduate from college aren’t making a few million bucks in say a 5 year span.
I have to say the guy intrigues me. He does have a good arm and obviously he’s an explosive athlete. He’s going to need some coaching and development to learn the finer points of the game. He’s clearly a QB you have specific sets and plays for. But he has to be able to do some standard stuff – meaning pocket passing. I for one am not a fan of a QB who looks to run all the time. Lamar Jackson is like that. Maybe that’s how you survive early on, but at some point you have to make NFL throws from the pocket or you’re limited.

I think Clelin Ferrell is exactly what we need at DE.
But there are several other good ones in this draft.
such as Montez Sweat.
But a sneaky pick would be Dexter Lawrence.
At 6’4 340 he is the best 1Tech in the draft and could be our run-stuffer in a 3-4.
D, agreed on Murray. You have to design your offense with a lot of waggles, roll-outs and RPOs to open up passing windows for him. He can’t throw from the pocket all day or he’s gonna get a lot of passes batted down. The big thing for him is can he take the hits?

One of the reasons is Ozzie Newsome stepped down, GM Reggie McKenzie as well as a few black head coaches were fired this year.

I’ll say this about Flores, O’Shea and Graham, they have been around versatile approaches to winning the game. Think about it, if Brady went down and Kyler Murray was their backup, they change the offense for him so they have the best chance to win. They do so many different things on defense I’m not sure losing a key player or two changes anything.
I don’t see us running anything too standard. These coaches along with Grier want to build this team based on specific philosophy and criteria but also based on who they have. No round pegs in a square hole.
That will be SWEET if it happens that way!

Yes, that’s definitive progress, and it’s admirable at face value. I just dream for a day where race is no longer a discussion, the best people get the job based on merit and accomplishment, and that we can put the evils of racism behind us forever.
I don’t ever want to be GIVEN something I didn’t earn. I don’t ever want to be DENIED something I did earn. See, THESE are the evils of racism and the corresponding ‘blow-back’ of racism.
Like Dr. King, I want to see a world WITHOUT any of this nonsense… in either direction! The best should get the job, regardless of race… in a world without racism.

well said Rock. Murray may be able to move around pretty well but these big guys that play these days are not longer your lumbering types. they all move pretty well and all it takes is just one good hit on a guy his size and he’s finished.
when we see the number of concussions some of these guys suffer every year and they’re much bigger than him you gotta be concerned more than anything about whether or not the guy can survive and not come out a vegetable.

Yeah it is. He’s a good active interior DL who never stops playing and he holds his own pretty well. Not sure how high he can take his game, but it won’t be from a lack of trying. He’s a good character kid, works and plays hard. I think he’s the type of player that fits the new coaching staff.

I’m not sure what to make of Haskins’ throwing motion… he almost reminds me of a pitcher throwing from the stretch (his arm, not his body). It’s almost a pseudo-windup, but damn it’s fast. And I would think the ball would come out hotter than it looks and does, but instead it’s got great touch.
I don’t know if this is even a pro or con, but he certainly gets the job done and well. I’ll try to delve into his tape later this week, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be gone by the time we pick @ R1P13. The question: is he really worth trading up for as a 1-year starter???

WYOMING: THANKS for running that vid on Devin Singletary, the man who scored 55 touchdowns during the last two seasons. I am slowly coming around to MF-13’s point of view regarding WHAT ROUND Singletary will be drafted in. I now believe Round 4 or even Round 3 is NOT out of the question. IMHO, Devin Singletary is, by far, the greatest player in the history of Florida Atlantic University. Some where around 20-25 FAUers have played NFL football since they advanced to Division 1 in, I believe, 2005. Needless to say, Mr. Singletary has set FAU rushing records that may stand for decades!

MF-13: I’m NOT sold on Haskins. Ohio State consistently has had a big talent edge over most teams that Haskins has started against. And I’m also not excited about his throwing motion. I hope the Dolphins don’t draft him.
Acknowledged, and I generally feel the same way. Unless I see something on his tape that ‘WOWS’ me, I’m thinking we shouldn’t trade up for him… and I don’t see him lasting to R1P13, either.
ON THE OTHER HAND, young Mr. Murray “Showed Me” something when, against the seemingly unbeatable and undefeated Crimson Tide, he led his Sooners on an amazing comeback that had Saban sweating bullets the last couple of minutes of the national semi-final game. He proved that HE, and not TUA, was the best QB on the field that night!!
Conversely, I have NOT yet seen Mr. Haskins perform at that level against a team as good as ALABAMA.

SON: Speaking of “YOUR GUY,” how is Mckenzie Milton’s rehab going?? –There’s a report over here in Tampa that Milton’s going to try to come back for another season at UCF. I HOPE he comes back and has a great season!! –If he does, the NFL will sure give him a shot!
He had a second surgery that went well and this surgery is the one that basically for lack of a better term put everything back in place. He’ll be able to rehab very soon. Word is if he can’t get back this year he could take a medical red shirt year and be back for 2020.

I wouldn’t root against Murray succeeding, but I honestly don’t like his odds at the next level. JMO
HELL, they might ALL SUCK at the next level. But I truly believe at least 2 of this year’s crop of QB’s will have solid/great NFL careers. Time will tell.
That’s right… only time will tell. There are absolutely ZERO guarantees about prospects. The best evaluaters have been sadly wrong before, and the worst evaluaters have been accidentally right before.

Interesting thing this offseason is FA will not necessarily effect the draft. Some players might be transition players as we look for better.
As it stands (and mind ya, I’m barely knee-deep in evaluating this year… late for me!), there’s only 1 guy I’d be willing to trade up for: Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky.
I think it’s going to scare a LOT of Phins fans if on Draft night, we trade up to R1P3 and select him. People will be sayin’, “Oh geez, Dion Jordan scenario all over again!”… but nothing could be further from the truth. Allen is going to be the face of a franchise for YEARS to come… and I don’t remember ANYBODY saying as much about one Dion Jordan.
But no, I don’t see us trading up for Allen, either. We’ve got to hit on our picks this year and it makes no sense to me to be trading our picks away to move up. Maximize the bounty of this Draft class in order to rebuild.
