Rebuild makes serious progress as Dolphins trade Ryan Tannehill, sign Ryan Fitzpatrick #staythecourse

Well, out with the old, in with the older. The Dolphins traded QB Ryan Tannehill to the Tennessee Titans and our 2019 6th RD (#188) pick as well as paying $5M of Ryan Tannehill’s $7M 2019 salary in exchange for the Titans 2019 7th RD pick (#234), and the biggest part of the trade, a 2020 4th RD pick. In addition to the Tannehill trade, the Dolphins signed veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a 2 year $11M deal, but with performance incentives met (they won’t!) could boost the deal to between $17-20M.

I remember driving home from work the night of the 2012 NFL Draft. It was Thursday April 26th, I worked until 9PM and I was racing home from work that night, desperately trying to make it home to watch us make our selection at #8. It didn’t happen. I was close, less than a half mile away when my cell phone rings (hands free for you law enforcement type) and it’s Walker on the other end. Walker says in his lovable southern drawl “Mike E, we got a QB!” I can actually feel the excitement still, the hope of a young QB, it brings so much promise. Unfortunately for both us and for Ryan, things never quite happened as they were supposed to, and the Tannehill era ended 3/15/19 with the trade to the Titans.

In 2016, Ryan Tannehill had his best stretch as a Miami Dolphin. After losing 4 of the first 5 games, at 104, Miami rode the J-Train (Jay Ajayi), and that threat of a legitimate run game opened up the offense, and the ball control rejuvenated the defense. The Dolphins went on to win 7 of the next 8 games with Ryan Tannehill until the fateful knee injury ended his season against the Arizona Cardinals. You know the rest, Matt Moore finished the season 2-1, beating the Jets and Bills, but losing the final game of the season to the Patriots. In the playoffs, we were no match for the Steelers as we were drubbed 30-12 in a non competitive game. Could Ryan Tannehill have done better? We’ll never know.

The Dolphins signing an older vet QB like Fitzpatrick means a couple of things. Fitz is not a long term answer so the Dolphins are still looking for young QB talent. S Minkah Fitzpatrick will have to put an “M.” before his shared last name of Fitzpatrick on his jersey for ’19. Fitzpatrick is a capable QB, but has been a rollercoaster the last couple of years. He started last season hot throwing 8 TD’s to 1 INT in his first 2 games for the Bucs. It all leveled out as Fitz finished the season throwing 17 TD’s and 12 INT’s after the 8:1 ratio in games 1 and 2. He’s really good and really bad. That’s how he’s been. He loves to sling it, and I’d be lying if I said that won’t be a welcome change to our controlled offense of throwing in a 5 yard radius 98% of the time with Tannehill and Gase.

I think the Dolphins will take a QB in this draft, but not necessarily in RD1, unless the right guy just happens to fall to us at #13. We won’t be trading up, which makes it difficult, but we just need to improve the young talent depth at QB. If we felt either Rudock or Falk were the real deal we probably don’t bother picking up Fitzpatrick. Whether Haskins, Lock or Jones are a guy we target, we’ll see in a few weeks. I’m excited that we’re on the right track, and each move we make cements it in that the rebuild is legitimate, and things will get better, but again, for the short term they just might get worse.

  1. Mike E. says:

I really want a QB, and I really want to get a QB that our front office really wants. Once you get that guy, you build around that. You can build a good team with a decent QB, but it’s hard to be a great team w/o a great QB

    • mf13ss says:

That’s a chicken vs the egg argument. Some (like me) would decide to build the O-Line first, so that we don’t allow our new QB to get DCS*.

      • Mike E. says:

That’s valid, mostly what I’m saying is you have to have the QB. It doesn’t matter to me when we get the QB, I just want a great QB

      • mf13ss says:

Mike E, I’m ALWAYS valid, Brother! LOL πŸ˜‰

But I absolutely agree with ya that at some point, we MUST have the QB. There’s no one way to do it correctly in terms of building, but there are many ways to do it the wrong way.

      • Mike E. says:

M – You most definitely are always valid!

Fits is good for two or three years. No need to rush into overdrafting a QB.
    ————–
    I absolutely concur with this.

  4. You know how you get a qb? You go get him. That’s how you do it

  5. naplesfan2010 says:

I think the light came on for Fitz in the third third of his career.
If he can be convinced to listen to Flores, to look at what Brady has done, what Brady does and how he does it, I think the 4th 4th of Fitz’s career might be his best. (I know the Gannon/Chuckie example is not original with me, but it is actually quite a propos.)

in other words, if he can cut out the hysterical crazy days and stick to just methodically completing passes to whomever the defense leaves open, Fitz has a nice set of skills to make the bellicheck method work for 4 TDs per game (especially since we have long-strike rushers and WRs because of all that top tier speed.)

  6. ocalarob says:

you just can’t target one guy, you have to keep drafting QBs, just like GB did with Farve and then they drafted Aaron rogers..or Washington when they took RG-3, they gave a boatload for him and took Cousins later in the draft. keep drafting QBs until you get one…you never know when that 6th rnd pick will be a GOAT.

    • Tim Knight says:

I get your point but Favre was drafted in 1991 and Rodgers in 2005. That said GB did draft QBs along the way and traded some. Ron Wolf believed in taking a QB every year or every other year.

This 🚒 engine broke and they had to call mayday

    • Crap, the waves are huge too, smh.
The ship could turn over and things could get more hectic than they already are, I hope they get everyone off safely

I doubt another large ship could come in, prolly too shallow, maybe a coast guard vessel

No bueno. I’ve been in the North Sea on a ship in February. We had 30 foot seas. Can’t imagine what it’s like with no engines.

    • Tim Knight says:

You see that on Deadliest Catch. Rough seas and cold water.

      • I’ve been in nasty predicaments on the water before, they are nerve wrenching, and souls could be perishing around You.

My Dad got in some too.
My fathers fishing buddy got hit by a very unfortunate lightning strike ,and my dad had to deal with a dead fishing buddy, horrible experience for everyone and family

The ocean , or nature takes what it needs, we have to understand and respect it and stay out of harms way

    • No shit, with no power, You are at the total mercy of merciless conditions. This is a near death experience, thankfully choppers are doing miraculous work at risk to their own lives.

And what’s up with the captain, doesn’t he receiver weather forecasts? Obviously he should or probably did, but here is an old rule to the sea.

You don’t Always HAVE to go out, but You always HAVE to come back.

He could or should have picked a calmer day or calmer route. The cruise ship profits will suffer because of a piss poor decision by the captain and cruise lines to venture into huge waves.
I don’t even want to know why the power is out, more shortcuts? I hope this turns out well, but it sure could and should have been avoided

  11. I take friends and fam out in the Atlantic Gulf Stream off of Jupiter and Palm Beach, and I have canceled trips at the last moment due to weather., and complaining by others doesn’t make me change my mind to go out.
I want to come back, each and every time,
and I want everyone else too also, so if the conditions are borderline to what the craft can handle, the keys don’t go in the ignition ., no matter the bitchin.

I had an old fishing captain tell Me, I take everyone out for free, the fee is for returning everyone home safely. He meant it.
There is always a better day to go if You are patient.

    • Tim Knight says:

Nature can be unpredictable too. Not sure what happened here though.

      • Agreed on the unpredictability, for some, but it’s the captains responsibilityntonreturn everyone home safely.

He needs to use the equipment on that boat, which is far better than small crafters, and his experience to make decisions to keep a thousand people safe.

There isn’t any evidence to show this was a calm enough day to go out, the waves are huge! Why did the captain take a thousand paying customers into a shitstorm?

It’s a question he will he
        Have to answer too.

The captain of the ship that took down the sunshine skyway bridge in Tampa Bay in the eighties, and lives were lost, had to answer,

        tragically his answer was suicide

  12. Tim Knight says:

Hope all goes well for the people on that ship. Scary stuff!

    • Yes, hope it turns out well. I’m thinking there aren’t any Arheists on that ship, they must all be praying to God they get out alive.

Most tragedies aren’t so long and drawn out, these poor folks are agonizing for hours over theirs and others fate.
I truly feel for each and everyone of them, wish I could help, but can’t unless I was a chopper pilot in the North Sea , I’m def not that

I said a prayer for them too, I feel horrible

  13. wyoming85 says:

I’ll be brief and do a little catch up!

David I hope you aspire to more than looking at young women on the beach?
    I know I do!
My 30 yer marriage is worth more than ALL of that!

Podunk America voted in Trump! So I’m a proud member!

    Piggy.
Revenue should be split between The Defense of the country, and the infrastructure for everyone!

That’s why I’ve been in favor of a national sales tax! rather than an income tax!

    Even dope heads by milk!!!!!

    Back to the sinking ship!

    • What a tragic finish to the day, smh, I wish I could help them.

This is one of the largest and most dangerous rescue mission I have seen since a cruise ship got stuck in a hurricane in the seventies

    • Tim Knight says:

In a nutshell that’s basically my ideology. Without defense there is no country, and without maintaining infrastructure we’re not evolving and where is the money going?

Our politicians have turned their jobs into a sport of elections and greed, not the work of what’s good for the people that they were elected to represent. It doesn’t matter right or left. They both drop the ball. It’s not a fucking sport or a game.

      • For the record,I do hate both parties, that why I am independent.

I do see merits on both sides, the centrist positions. but I don’t agree with the far left, nor the far right
We are All Americans, but people have differing ideas of how the government should be run.
Taxpayers want representation, its why we are here instead of England.

that’s always been that way, and always will be.
And also I don’t want to offend anyone with politics, so that all I will say for now.

Im just hoping the people make it home safely off that dead cruise ship, and hopefully the cruise lines tighten up their weather forecasting and decision making , not to mention the ship maintenance.

It’s a busted ship in a shit storm, how in the hell, smh

  14. By now, most of the passengers are terrified, seasick and vomiting from the motion of sitting in one spot rocking and rolling, with anxiety and fear of demise growing by the minute. and the greatest fear of all, the fear of unknown.

The only luck on their side is it’s early afternoon, so they should have some daylight left to work worth.

I shudder to think what it will be like, if darkness falls, and their are still souls on board

Chopper can rescue folks at night? In a storm on a dead boat?, probably not, We really don’t want to find out, I hope they get them out in the daytime

  15. My ex father in law was a Luftwaffe pilot, and he got shot down in the North Sea by a p41 pilot.
He had to get fished out of the water in 5 minutes, or he wouldn’t have told Me the story years later.
He said survival in the cold water is very short, between 5-10 minutes for the average person

  16. ElephantRider says:

I don’t think the plan is for Fitzpatrick to be here more than his current contract. If they have not found their guy by then, we’re screwed.
By screwed, I mean same ol same ol. LOL

    • stangerx says:

Why am thinking the better to start looking for the next QB the better. And that includes trading for Rosen or taking Grier for less than first round money.

  17. Scrap it’s not a thousand, it’s worse than that.

there were 1300 passengers that went out , not counting the crew

  18. The ship was built in 2017, and it’s dead? Some Reports coming in they managed to get one of the engines going.
Engine repair in 19-30 foot seas? Wow that’s superhero stuff if they can do it

  19. One engine isn’t enough to power against the storm, but they are attempting a hold position and have a few lights on

  20. Johnny Manuel is now in his third league lol.

The NFL, CFL, and the AAF
    Is that a record?

  21. Tim Knight says:

Murray, Haskins, Lock resemble E. Manning, Rivers and Roethlisberger back in 2004. Not the exact same type of players, but the QB order, and Daniel Jones is J.P. Losman. LOL

  22. wyoming85 says:

    • Tim Knight says:

For now he replaced Brendel, Swanson and Johnson. That’s sounds like a brand. LOL

Kilgore seems to be in the mix at least for 2019. This is where we start.
      LT Tunsil
      LG?
      C Kilgore
      RG Davis
      RT?

  23. Tim Knight says:

  24. bookman11 says:

I am kind of torn on what I would like them to do in this draft. I would say that if they have conviction on one of the QBs, move up and get him. I think we will still have prettified draft capital and cap space the next few years to add needed pieces. It seems there are plenty of options either way, which is nice.

I am warming to Haskins, there is something about him I like. I guess we will see.

  25. bookman11 says:

  30. bookman11 says:

The Packers kept drafting QBs: Matt Hasselback, Ty Detmer, Aaron Brooks, Matt Flynn. They were not necessarily that great, but they were good backups, and they extracted draft capital from them, I believe. This was probably more an exception to the norm though, but I get ORobs point.

  32. naplesfan2010 says:

just saw a new interview with HC Flores.
The usual Dolphin bashing aside, it’s highly illuninating and solves the tanking or not issue for me exactly the way i want it.

Basically, Flores says every team is rebuilding every year.

I think every team faces losses in FA of the “cap casualty” variety, even the patsies. Every team goes through the “new HC cycle” except NE, and even they are going to do that very soon.

Every team goes through the “find our franchise QB” quest, and then as soon as they find him, they enter the “closing SB window” cycle.

Every team faces battle fatigue, even the vaunted Steelers model is failing at a spectacular level right now. However, since they rebuild every year, Juju will replace Brown and some RB will replace Bell and eventually some QB will repalce Roeth’er.

  33. naplesfan2010 says:

Flores says they are trying hard to win every game and expect to win every game.

Sorry, but I really like this new HC. Not sorry.

Not because he speaks in the same code as Billychk, but because he sounds sincere yet calculates his responses and actions to achieve a positive effect.

    • Mike E. says:

I have to temper my enthusiasm until I see the whole thing come together. I’m very encouraged so far though, they really seem to be on the right path. This draft is huge though, and next years draft looks we’re set up to really change the team.

  34. naplesfan2010 says:

    Some of the nfl.com article:
    >>>>
If a rebuild is underway for the Miami Dolphins — as most believe is the case — rookie head coach Brian Flores isn’t all that enamored with the term.

Accustomed to success after working his way up the coaching ranks for the New England Patriots and departing following a Super Bowl victory over the Rams, Flores takes on a Dolphins team coming off a 7-9 season that has accumulated extra draft picks and seen veterans aplenty depart.

However, when asked by NFL Network’s Judy Battista if the team was rebuilding, Flores’ take was that everybody’s rebuilding — every year.

“I think every team’s rebuilding. That’s this league. Every team rebuilds every year because no team is the same every year,” Flores said. “So the Patriots are going to be different than they were last year. So are the Bills or Jets. So is every other team. So that’s my personal philosophies. Last year was last year. This year is this year.”

As Flores navigated through the Patriots’ system, perhaps he was bestowed media tips from Bill Belichick.

Nevertheless, Flores is taking on his first head-coaching gig at any level and clichΓ©d answers are nothing new for any head coach.

Hence, Flores is going to take it — wait for it — one day at a time and one game at a time.

“I think right now for the Dolphins, it’s, you know, our goal is to improve every day, just get a bit better every day,” Flores said. “I can tell you, we’re going to go try, gonna go out there and try to win every game. That’s gonna be our goal every week. So I think that’s where we’re at.”

One takeaway, though, seems to be that Flores is in for the long haul. And he realizes the long haul might be an arduous one and he’s not shying away from the battle.

“I think the foundation is there, and we’ll just, you know, like every other team we’re building,” he said. “But we, talk about this is gonna take a lot of hard work. It’s gonna take a lot of sticking together.”

  36. olddolphan says:

CHEATRIOTS’ OWNER Rabid Krapp is at it again!! In today’s local sports section, Krapp is quoted as saying “I am truly sorry.” The next question SHOULD have been, “Are you sorry for your actions or just sorry you got caught??” Krapp DID go on to say that his morals “were shaped by his late wife Myra Kraft.” WHAT BULLSHIT!!! As Myra lay dying from cancer, Rabid Krapp was squiring women half her age to expensive dinners and social events in the area! Krapp later is quoted as saying “I expect to be judged not by my words but by my actions!” Gee, Rabid, I wonder why??
    —————
Anything less than a one-year suspension of Krapp by the NFL is unacceptable!! PERIOD!! Here’s hoping Krapp caught something serious in his escapades of dishonor!

  37. ocalarob says:

if denver does take lock, the giants take haskins and arz takes murray there will be a great player to drop to 13!

  38. bailbondmike says:

Crap, you guys talking football again. I’ll be back when it gets political againπŸ˜ƒ

  39. olddolphan says:

OCALA ROB: HAD KRAPP BEEN CAUGHT doing this in the Boston area it doubtless would have been swept under the rug (AKA Krapp’s hair piece)!! Fortunately it happened in a hard core Dolphins’ county (Palm Beach County, where I and my wife were raised and educated). KRAPP’s billions won’t get him out of trouble on this one!!!!! One of my old time “boys” told me
“They’ve got Kraft by the balls on this one. It’s all on tape. And it will, eventually, be on everyone’s home computer!!!” No doubt some Boston scribes will TRY to paint a positive spin on this one. But THE TRUTH IS SADDER THAN ONE OF BRADY’S DEFLATED BALLS!! This franchise is rotten through and through. And what’s been revealed the last few years is, literally, the Tip of the Shit Pile!! And if you think it CAN’T get worse than Aaron Hernandez’s drug associations and convictions for MURDER, think again!! How about human trafficking? How about DOZENS of players on PEDS?? There’s a lot more to this situation than meets the eye. And the commisioner’s office’s lack of a meaningful response (yet) bodes poorly for the Cheatriots franchise. It is obvious to me that Krapp’s fellow team owners would LOVE to put a permanent end to this disgusting and blatantly illegal situation.
PERMANENTLY BANNING KRAPP would be a logical first step AFTER all the shit from these escapades is totally out.

    • stangerx says:

OD — maybe he gets off of the charges on some technicality, but I’m pretty sure that the league will do….. and Goddell ain’t bound by what happens in court. He’ll pay a hefty fine to charity (say 500K) and be suspended for say 4 games….. which will mean he just watches from home. Not like he is running the place during the season anyhow.

  40. BailBondMike says:

I don’t know where they will go with the draft or how they will draft. Does the new coach suggest to Grier how the Pats approached the draft? Like trading back most drafts for more picks. Draft a QB when there is a need or not. (I know we have a need.) Pats (like the Packers) have drafted a few QB’s over the Brady years even when they had a starter and a backup. Does Grier apply some of these philosophies to our draft or does Grier do things his way since he is finally the man?

  41. BailBondMike says:

I hope we don’t draft Lock. He has the arm to make all the throws but, even as a starter for 4 years in college, he has never shown me he has “It”. If you look at his numbers against all SEC teams, including the SEC bottom feeder teams, his numbers are pedestrian. I posted them a few days ago. In his 8 SEC games last year he only had 10 TD’s and 7 INT’s. His worst SEC game wasn’t even against Alabama or Georgia. It was against South Carolina were he completed 17 of 36 for 204 yards, 47.2 comp. %, 0 TD and 2 INT’s. All his numbers are against nonconference unranked teams. His best SEC game was in an upset win over UF. I do see him as possibly becoming a franchise guy but don’t him ever becoming a QB who can put an offense on his shoulders. IMO, I see him as an equal to Tannehill. Just watch his game tape against Alabama. He was lost and looked like a buffoon most of the game.

    • Tim Knight says:

You can’t put all that on the QB. The Mizzou teams are not on the level with other SEC teams especially Alabama.

    • BailBondMike says:

That’s why I posted his #’s against South Carolina and not Alabama. These were his numbers vs Vanderbilt 22 of 33 for 253, 66.7%, 2 TD, 2 INT. His #’s against Arkansas were not much better than the Vandy game, just subtract the INT’s and lower his yardage and comp % a little. Meh…

  42. Randy says:

I think teams are drafting skills much more these days than they did in the past. If a guy has the physical tools, a team will draft them and coach them up. We see it over and over these days. I’m not saying it’s the only thing they care about, but I do think teams are willing to overlook some things if the basic talent is there.

  43. Randy says:

    naples,
I didn’t say it always works! Lol

  44. Tim Knight says:

We’ll see what prospects we draft. I’m not gonna get crazy that we drafted this guy and not that guy. They do a lot more work on these prospects than we do from afar. All I hope is that the guys they do draft pan out. πŸ™‚

  45. BailBondMike says:

I would probably take a stab at Brett Rypien late. Have not heard much about him but his #’s were surprisingly good last year, 301 of 447 at 67.3% for 3705, 30 TD’s 7 INT’s

Another 7th round or UDFA QB I would take a look at is Brent Stockstill of Middle TN. He is Drew Brees size but some decent #’s, 326 of 464 for 3,544, 70.3 comp %, 29 TD’s 10 INT’s. His game against a very good Kentucky defense was most impressive, 30 of 33 for 293, 90.9%, 3 TD’s and 1 INT all while being beat up (sacked 7 times).

  46. BailBondMike says:

Along with 2020 QB draft possibilities in Fromm, Herbert, etc. I am going to keep one eye on Jordan Love of Utah State, 267 of 417 for 3,567 at 64.0%, 32 TD’s 6 INT’s. I want to see how he improves on his accuracy. Have greatly improved from his freshman year and will see if that continues.

  47. Tim Knight says:

BB Mike, college stats aren’t always easy to translate to the NFL. A lot of scouting is about how a player will translate to the NFL. That’s why when it comes to QBs I prefer guys who at least have all the tools because at least they’re not limited in physical ability. But sometimes guys who have limitations overcome them and have success in the NFL as well.

    • BailBondMike says:

Oh, I totally agree. That is why I watch how they play the game. #’s for me are just part of the puzzle.

  48. bookman11 says:

I don’t care about college stats as much anymore as I do about intangibles, or β€œit”, or being a gamer. Don’t get me wrong, there has to be some arm talent and such, but give me a guy with the football fortitude and moxie like Pennington or even Jay Fiedler. I am beginning to think Haskins or Grier might have that combination. Grier, we can get without moving in the draft.

    • BailBondMike says:

Again, I agree. I mainly use stats as a way to find out about the lesser guys. When their stats pop out at me it makes me take a closer look at the guys no one is talking about. I did throw out stats on Lock but have watched a bunch of his tape as well. Dude is not good at all under pressure and what I have seen of a 4 year starter is, IMO, he does not have “It”. I think he is equal to Tannehill but not as tough.

    • BailBondMike says:

But, I’m just an armchair scout. LOL

Mike, Gronk isn’t a quick twitch flexible guy. He’s more of a straight ahead bull with height and good hands. He was on the field for a Hail Mary, not to try to catch Drake.

Why is it that politics are spoken here when things look bad for President Trump (ie: ALL weekend until the Mueller report came out earlier today), yet things go SILENT when he scores a major win for the American people (you and me)?

This is merely an observation, nothing more. I’d rather talk about this observation IN AND OF ITSELF, rather than talking about politics (if that’s even possible?). I think we should ALL come together in knowing that our duly elected President didn’t work with Russia to get elected. Today is a VICTORY for our country, regardless of political side!!!

    • The Flying Pig says:

Okay then you want to talk about it

      He hasn’t been fully exonerated
      That’s a complete misstatement

The limited statements about the report specifically say he has not been exonerated

And the report has not been released
You are getting a version of it from some one with their thumb on the scale

William Barr,s son has a new job…working for trump

He wrote op-ed before he was appointed AG condemning the investigation before he nosing up overseeing it

      He is a Trump appointee

There are some serious conflicts for Barr

We don’t need his interpretation of the report
      We need the real report

All I see is a corrupt man (trump) getting away with more corruption
He’s been doing it his whole life…nothing new

      Let me see the report
Let me see the evidence that led to Barr recitation of a conclusion

And now if the report is released, the house can decide to take action
And the senate can have a hearing in full view of the American people
      Without Barr’s thumb onthe scale

But if we keep getting a Trump appointee version of it, well that’s not credible

Besides the point the trump and his stooges have publicly belittled Robert mueller for months, his campaign manager is in jail right, roger stone isn’t far from it and their have been numerous indictments – only a trump supporter would call this a win

It continues to be the most embarrassing part of our nations history

I don’t know why you invited debate on this subject

But like I said – no one is changing their minds

      WY is right
It will never be good enough for me and for many others

There isn’t a moment where everyone joins hands and agrees with you

You got to come to terms with that reality instead of suggesting that today is any different than any other day of the last 2 years

So people coming here and saying the president has been exonerated
      That’s gloating

And people saying what I just said is sour grapes
Which I would have left off this site

I don’t care if he likes Putin….I dont care if he grabs pussy

what i care is that he runs this country.

maybe the dems should focus more on the economic upswing created by Trump instead of how he screws a porn star.

  74. Krishna says:

There sure are a lot witches that were found in this hunt. Putting blinders on about Russian interference in our election that involves several top campaign associates and wh associates, is like saying. “If they don’t fit, you must acquit.” Serious blinders.

Today’s economy is not a reflection of Trump’s brilliant business decisions, but the gravy train he inherited. How do you ruin an already steady/strong economy? You’re watching it play out. I hope I’m wrong, but check back in two years.

I’m not nearly as eloquent in my discourse as piggy, but I agree with just about every point/issue he has raised since the “big bad caravans of mothers/kids/families invading our country and taking all the jobs no one wants” discussion. The Flying Pig nailed it, imo.

He’s also nailed it about POTUS being one of the worst presidents ever. Or, maybe that’s jmo. Leaders don’t divide, they unite. He is not a leader. Liar, absolutely. Leader, not.

And, one last thing, grabbing women’s pussies without there consent because you have money, doesn’t make you a man, it makes you a felon. I love (dripping with sarcasm) the vitriol toward Robert Kraft who was at least willing to pay for a Happy Ending vs Trump who pays to keep his affairs quiet to win the most important job in the world.

Such a strange world we live in.

    • Krishna says:

Just to be clear….I’m not a Democrat or a Republican and I have never been either. I just watch and try to learn something.

  75. pheloniusphish says:

Wait…Russia tried to interfere with our elections!?! I am shocked, shocked I say!

Mueller did find some witches and indict them, but none of them (or the actions they were indicted for) had anything to do with President Trump (roll it around on your tongue….savor it…PREEZZIIDEENT TRUMP). What he did not find was any US citizen colluding with the Russians. Nor was there enough evidence to indict for obstruction. While that allows haters to hate, it means there was no obstruction. Should have been a binary answer, but it wasn’t, so haters still gonna hate.

All Presidents hand pick their AG. Doesn’t necessarily make the AG biased, but they are going to be politically aligned. Look at Obama’s two – now there are some people who know about collusion.

I hope they release the whole report or at least as much as source work allows. Although it is ironic how many calling for it fought the release of virtually every investigation (Benghazi?) conducted during the Obama presidency. I do not believe it will say anything more than the summary that has been given. But a drowning man will grasp at straws.

Obama doesn’t get credit for the current economy. That’s just silly. His regime was anti-business, pro regulatory, and high tax. None of which creates confidence in the business world. He even stated manufacturing jobs were not coming back. As an employer, I can tell you that the ACA is a tremendous strain on businesses. On the international front, the US has been taking a beating in trade deals for years. Especially with China. Now, not so much.

Iran was cheating and limiting access of inspectors from the very start of the Iran deal. The US fever should have been apart of that deal and President Trump was right to pull out. It was never more than a way for Europe to keep getting Iranian oil while looking like they were doing something. This is why we don’t have nuclear pigs. North Korea is North Korea. But at least he got the crazy little bastard to the table.

Our immigration is hosed. No other country allows the things going on at our southern border. While I have empathy and sympathy for some, we are not responsible for their actions and the consequences thereof. We are a nation of laws. We have killed no children at the border. Their parents, the coyotes, and the agitators manipulating the migrants have. The soft approach of the last 30+ years on the border has brought us here.

I don’t care much for Trump the person. His voice is like nails on a chalk board for me and he is completely lacking in humility and gentility. He is a stereotypical New Yorker (as in city). But if you think he has not united a large and disparate swath of America, you will be whining about him until 2025. And he will continue to do so as long as he puts America first and the parties keep putting party first. Running anti-American socialist against him is not going to work nor are spurious and blatantly false attacks. Actual governing might.

End of the day, as Pigs said, the whole report is not going to change any minds. And that,s all I have to say about that.

  76. ocalarob says:

I think miami has been on this rebuild path a lot longer than just since Dec as they have been very quiet on the FA signings the last 2 years not signing any long term deals

  77. Krishna says:

Why is lying acceptable behavior and why did so many people lie and were indicted for lying about Russia? No one’s whining, just asking questions and making reasonable musings. Let’s see the report.

OJ was not convicted as a criminal either…..put your blinders on. Civil suit brought him down.

Whataboutism is such a weak and lazy argument, and pretty much irrelevant to any current dialogue about Trump. Hillary who?

Immigration, enforce the laws. It’s that simple. Do it as humanely as possible as this country was built on it. I really have no idea why this is such an issue, except it seems to be a “fear-based” invasion fantasy made up to get votes.

Believing with blind loyalty is cultish and scary.

Preserving the planet is good for all business, so are regs implemented to protect your pension plans.

I just see the world differently.

    • pheloniusphish says:

Who says lying is acceptable? Who besides Flynn lied about Russia? Flynn who was fired by the White House for lying about Russia.

There an actual…you know…crime committed in the OJ case. You have to have one of those for an indictment. There wasn’t a crime, so there wasn’t an indictment. Being a boorish asshole is not a crime.

A weak and lazy argument is calling inconvenient comparisons or references β€œwhat about ISS.” Must be the new dismissive catch phrase to use when you have nothing. I,be seen David use it a lot, so there is that. The reference wasn’t about Hillary, it was about the hypocrisy of yammering for full release now when some argued the opposite when their peeps were the ones investigated.

We agree on enforcing the current immigration laws. But when the current White House did that all hell broke loose on the left. When the White House offered a deal for the Dreamers, the opposition party said no. When the White House tried to stop catch and release, all hell broke loose again. Maybe you call 136K illegals over the last 12 months (that’s family units only) a fear-based invasion fantasy, but I call it a humanitarian crisis and a national security issue.

Believing everyone that disagrees with you is blindly loyal and cultish is…well…blindly loyal and cultish. And I think you are more nuanced than that as is Piggy and most people on this board.

We also agree that saving the planet is good. Some regs are good. I was a government regulator, so I get that some are necessary, because greed is greed. Want to ban plastic bags? Go for it…hate those things. I’ve seen countries in Africa where trees don’t grow leaves because they are buried in plastic. But you cannot just shutdown coal mines overnight. Locally sourced and sustainable beef? Yep, that’s what I buy. But you cannot get rid of commercial ranching overnight. Common sense has to prevail.

I doubt we see the world all that differently. Just have to be able to find common ground where we do.

He is something i would say. If Russia interfered with our election, either you believe it or you dont, but do you think this was the first one that it got done on? Do you really think that if they were going to interfere, this is the first time they decided to do so? I cant buy that. I personally dont like Trump, i have my reasons, but ill say i think the term witch hunt does apply, since its been going on since before any of the shit about Russians involvement was suggested. Hell they actually had people running personal advertisement campaigns to get anything they could on him that could be used for impeachment.

I mean im all for a crook getting caught and held accountable but do you really need to pay people to come forward with stuff because you want him out. This shit happened before any of the rest of this did. People who didn’t want him in have been trying to use the impeachment process to undo what electorally happened. This is as improper and sets as bad a precedence as anything else thats going on.

You catch him legit, then he needs to go, but trying to massage shit and trying every angle you can get under the stars definitely sounds like a witch hunt and one that wont be satisfied until people get what they want. What do you think is going to happen every time a presidential election doesnt go one or the others sides way from now on. This kinda of shenanigans is dangerous, so imo, it needs to proceed only if it should and if he is acquitted, then thats the process our judicial system has in place, stop bemoaning it and accept it. Vote him out in 2020, simple as that.

Oh and Hillary has been involved heavily with the Russians, these allegation had been mentioned about her as well, and her track record with illegal shit is well documented, so would you rather have her right now? She skated on her guilt, and people said, well she was acquitted, so nothing to see here. How can the same people now say that the process is rigged for Trump? Thats hypocrisy, and IMO whatever rules you play the game by, you gotta play them on both sides. Found not guilty is found not guilty.

    • The Flying Pig says:

I think we live in a different age today and haven’t figured out how to legislate social media and the speedy spread of misinformation

And I think the Russians weaponized that to affect our elections
But at the end of the day, it’s just propaganda

Drawing the line to when propaganda affected a vote and when it did not seems impossible to me.

I know enough trump supporters that probably would have voted for trump without any of the hacking of emails or propaganda on social media. So the scandal may have blown the whole thing out of proportion

But the difference between Trump and everyone else is that Trump stood on a stage an invited it. And that should never happen.

A foreign country (especially a traditional hostile foreign govt) is doing what they are doing for their own interest not ours.

D, I would run for office but can’t. I cupped a girls titties in a bar in Charleston back in the 80’s cause I was drunk. I also pissed off a ocean fishing pier in NC in front of a bunch of people back in the 80’s. I was drunk then also. So, I don’t plan on running for office.

  88. Mike E. says:

Anyone have ideas on how to blow up the 2 party system? If an independent candidate wins a presidential election, does that start it? I don’t see people coming together unless someone outside who is completely not beholden to either party is in charge. Even so there will still be congress and senate and who has the majority there, but I think it would be an interesting scenario to see play out.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      I know some disagree

But I think it takes 4 parties to do this – not 3

A rogue independent candidate will just take away from one of the 2 candidates in this climate

in the judicial and legislative branches it’s very possible and not really harmful to one of the parties per se. there are a few independents here and there in congress. Sanders for instance is independent in the senate but will run as a democrat for his run for president and did in 2016

But on the national level in the general election – it usually hurts one candidate

So it’s hard to do without some wholesale philosophical changes to how govt is run. Since at the executive level, it’s not just the president, it’s his entire cabinet that has to pick a side between 2 traditional sides

If you look back at old elections, you’ll see 3rd parties being successful in national elections
But we’ve been getting to this place since Andrew Jackson so we have a few hundred years to undo to bring civility back in politics by not haveing an us and then approach to it

I know it’s an also an unpopular partisan idea, and I don’t have a problem with electoral vote than many other left leaning people do, but emphasis on the popular vote regather than the electoral vote probably will help nontraditional parties since placing emphasis on what a majority of a state says doesn’t matter so much whereas cumulative vote does – it’s hard for a 3rd party to win one state, much less numerous states

Phish – I owe you a more substantive response but I don’t have time while I’m working

But collectively to all of you I will challenge you guys to post at least 3 positive economic conditions today that we’re not a an increasing trend from Obama’s years in office. And I will solely rebut those based on whether they were a trend or not before Trump was president

I don’t want to bog this blog down with politics – so I will leave it to you guys if you want to drop it or continue

I wish there were more discussions about policy instead of Russia, porn stars and general character issues as well. I’m willing to do it and I havr in the past, and I invite you to show me and take up the challenge I posted above so I can show you what I think: trumps saving grace is the scandals he’s been involved in – it’s the only thing that stops his opposition from digging deep into his policies

I just don’t think you will ever get substantive political conversations with this particular piece of trash in the Oval Office, and that’s bc of who he is, not who he is portrayed to be by third parties

I had sex with my girl friends room mate back in the 80’s. Never got caught and only happened once. We broke up 2 months later anyway.
I also used to steal gum from the 7/11 when I was 9.
When I was 12, we used to camp in the woods behind our house then late at night would sneak into peoples gardens and have huge food fights. I all most gave my brother a concussion with a cantaloupe.

RIP Marty Noble – He was baseball writer for MLB, and a good one at that

  92. BailBondMike says:

I also got a DUI back in the 80’s.

Wait….I’m starting to think I would make a great politician!!!!

  93. Mike E. says:

Piggy – I would say unemployment is way down since Trump took office and that was not trending from Obama at all.

  94. Rockphin says:

Trump is already a billionaire and cant be bought so his policy is not inline with other politicians it is inline with the American pocket i believe that is why he was elected.

WHAT!?? I am shaking my head at he can’t be bought! He has more personal conflicts of interest than any other president in history. He is the MOST susceptible to being bought of any president ever.

  95. Rockphin says:

    FUCK MAGA

America NEVER STOPPED being great. It is and has always been the greatest country in the world and just because the last president was black it didn’t stop. Oh by the way, there has been a record of TEN YEARS of growth not just the last 2. Unemployment had been dropping for TEN years not just the last two.
