Mandatory mini camp begins June 4th. Reshad Jones who was very unhappy at the end of last season, apparently having some miscommunication (lack of communication?) with then HC Adam Gase, seems to still be harboring resentment for the team as he he’s been absent for all voluntary OTA’s. I don’t view that as nothing. He’s supposed to be a leader on this team, he’s the celebrated grizzly veteran, so why skip an opportunity to meet new teammates and get an idea what the new HC is all about? We’ll see if Reshad is present next week, and we may also see where his head is at if he does show up. Does he want to be a part of this team, or does he wish to be elsewhere? Reshad has been a good player for our team over 9 seasons, making 2 pro bowls. He’s a playmaker, snagging 21 INT’s and also scoring 6 TD’s, 4 on INT returns and 2 on fumble recoveries.
I was scanning NFL rosters trying to find a good fit for Reshad. Green Bay just recently added S Adrian Amos at FS, but have young, inexperienced and unhappy SS Josh Jones, who has requested to be traded. Josh Jones was drafted in RD 2 in 2017, and wants out, so why not replace him with a guy who may bring that defense exactly what it needs? You can also say why would GB want another ingrate on their team, and can they even afford to pay Reshad Jones? This is where we’d have to be creative and pay a large part of Reshad’s salary in order to acquire a higher pick in next year’s draft. The Packers are in cap hell right now, and it would make little sense to pick up Josh Jones in exchange for Reshad, unless were high on Josh Jones and could possibly steal an additional pick in the exchange.
The Kansas City Chiefs picked up Tyrann Mathieu, and they currently have him paired with former Miami Dolphins safety Jordan Lucas. Lucas is fine as a depth player, but if they want to really add a piece to that defense, pair Reshad Jones and Tyrann Mathieu together in that secondary. Now you’re talking! KC does have some cap space but I expect once again we’d have to pay some of Reshad’s salary in order to acquire a higher pick, as we did in previous trades already. KC is desperate, or at least should be desperate to improve that awful defense, and shoring up the run and pass defense with an excellent pair of safeties like Mathieu and Jones would help.
The New Orleans Saints could be another destination for Reshad. They are also on the cusp of a championship, and although the defense improved last season, it could use a nice boost of a playmaking veteran safety. Von Bell who was a 2016 2nd RD pick isn’t that guy, so the Saints pick up Reshad for future draft capital and really improve their defense. That would pair Jones with up and coming FS Marcus Williams, also drafted in RD 2, but in 2017. Williams has snagged 6 INT’s in 2 seasons with the Saints, and he could probably do more knowing he has the tackling machine and playmaking SS next to him. The Saints have zero cap space, so we would need to pay much of Reshad’s salary, and I think we can do that. We need to re-sign LT Laremy Tunsil which will take a chink of space, but we should have plenty of space available, especially once we rid ourselves of Reshad’s contract and others that will be coming off the books.
Let me know if you think Reshad will be on our 2019 roster in September, or if you think we trade him. If you think we trade him, let me know where you think that might be.
GO DOLPHINS
#staythecourse

Mike, then there was this too. I think it’s all about the multiple.
And this.
Tim – The non sacred cow has to show up first, then he has to earn his spot. Glad Flores is laying down the rules. Now we have to follow through with them. Having this fester though reduces our leverage, so I hope he shows up.
If he doesn’t show up for the mandatory minicamp June 4-6 then something’s up.
We’ve discussed your writeup at length all offseason. I’m not sure why Reshad would be unhappy or anything, he’s got a nice big contract. I know OTAs are voluntary but with a new coaching staff and systems you would think he’d be here like a lot of other vets. So I don’t know what his mindset is.
I think Jones will be here until someone picks up the phone and calls Grier.
It will be first come, first serve!
I know I’m about done!
Does anyone else think Andrew Siciliano’s expressions always look he’s being told that life as know it will end later today. LOL
You want to see something truly inspiring and amazing, watch this.
That was Amazing !! #UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE
My goodness, that’s just beautiful. Wow!
Jesus thats incredible
I also don’t think the Minkah pick was as much a “no brainer” as some others think, I would have been thrilled with Tremaine Edmunds. I’m not hating on Minkah, I just think we here at FMU really overrate the guy. It’s understandable, we want so badly for him to succeed, and I do too, but I don’t think as a pro he’s earned anywhere being considered great yet.
————————————————————
Disagree here, i make the pick of Minkah over Edmunds 100 times out of 100. I dont overrate him, he was the best overall DD pick in the draft, i saw several sites ranking him as a better overall safety prospect than James, and some that called him the best Safety and the second best CB prospect in the draft. With top player ability at multiple positions i dont think you pass on a guy like that. Derwin James has solid coverage ability, but he is better as a SS. I think that was a tougher choice between those two than Edmunds and Fitz.
I dont overrate anyone, the guy is good, hell he did excellent even being snatched around on the defense and never really getting to settle into any one spot. He does still have a good ways to go to be called great, but so do James and Edmunds. We can come back and discuss it after each of their rookie contracts is up, that will make for a better discussion anyways.
Quick, who had more passes defensed last season, Minkah or Tremaine?
A little background music for when you read the article and comments. Man were they good.

Great take on it Mike E….. as I read while the Clash was going at it. And Reshad might go to some other team, but don’t too worried about the salary caps on the possible landing spots. Stuff can be done. Now if we want to pay to make the trade better…. then that can as well.
Thanks Stanger – The song was definitely going through my head when I came up with that title.
And is one of the big unsettled factors. Camp will be camp and position battles just that. It’s the indecision that is bugging me. 🙂
The answer to whether Jones should stay or go is based in what the other team is offering
I have nothing but good things to say about Jones the football player
Jones is a very good football player, no denying that.
Jones wasn’t very good last year!
And I don’t want to hear “the coaches” BS.
Do your JOB! If the scheme sucks so what! All you can do is your JOB!
Stanger – “Don’t you know which clothes even fit me?” is pretty relevant as well . . .
And next year hope with all that cap money don’t end up lost in the supermarket. And the Jags might hear London Calling. Surprised Tim has popped in on this. Maybe not be his stuff.
I like The Clash. I never had any of their records but I like some of their stuff.
Tim — maybe the clash never hit you like did some, but when I hear artists these days the Clash comes up over and over as an influence. But music is such a personal taste and you and M13 are our music experts. London Calling still one of my favorite albums of all time.
Some more about Safety.
https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/armando-salguero/article230934513.html
Really hope he breaks out for us this season.
It sounds like he will get a shot at it at least!
There’s nobody to set behind anymore!
Yeah and I think we’ll see him standing up playing OLB quite a bit.
Stanger, I like a lot of music that I never purchased but heard it on the radio or friends were into it. The Clash were an iconic band in the punk scene though they were better musicians and songwriters than a lot of the other bands.
Wasn’t trying to say you didn’t like them in any way. Was just pointing out I really liked them. Not sure if there is a “first side” any more, but that of London Calling was one of the best ever listened too. So encouraging you to give it a shot.
Nah man I wasn’t suggesting you were saying that. Was just telling you where I was at with them. I’m always willing to listen to suggestions. I’ve probably heard most of it.
Cool enough — and am sure you have heard most of it. No one on this planet whose music expertise and knowledge respect more. Maybe got into a pool shouldn’t have dived into.
Wow thanks for the props on music but I’m just one small voice about music on the planet. LOL
Tim – Why do you hate The Clash? lol
LOL
I like the Grateful Dead too but in my HS and town there were a lot of Dead Heads and everywhere I went all I heard was the Dead at parties, hanging out and about and it got played out to me. The Dead allowed their fans to tape their live shows and there was a craze among Dead Heads sharing tapes from the shows they went to. It was crazy.
I only knew of The Clash from a few individuals who were either big fans or had extensive record collections. They weren’t big for me growing up like a lot of other stuff but I have respect for lots of music even if it isn’t my favorite.
Ok, AGT video above ranked 9 tears. Why nine? That’s how many rolled down my face while watching it
You knew when he came out that there was going to be something special but he surpassed that. Kodi brought wonder and joy to the entire building and to the millions who have watched it. The entire scene made my day.
Brian Flores reminds me of the type of HC Dan Campbell would have been. Not a specialist in one area, a HC who coaches the entire team from a physical and mental toughness type of way. No nonsense.
Could Preston Williams be our Josh Gordon but stops with the off the field nonsense? When he plays he produces and makes explosive plays. Everyone who has watched him raves about his football ability. It’s up to him to take advantage of this opportunity and focus on football.
Thoughts on Minkah vs hand-picked quotes.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-miami-doesnt-need-to-get-creative-with-minkah-fitzpatricks-usage
Hopefully, he is put in his best position to win the battles and the games
A rookie….no less.
Hopefully, he continues his development and his strengths are maximized.
I posted it 2 days ago.
But you know how it is!
It’s easier to argue than read? 😉
Try to read everything and probably forget half I read….
sorry if this was already posted…it’s hard for me to stay current, then end up in circles….lol
Well here’s a RT for next year!
Nothing wrong with a hand picked quote if it’s accurate and isn’t misleading as to what it meant.
I can’t find a lot on Preston Williams off field issues except for a 20177 arrest for domestic violence
If that’s all there is, he deserves a 2nd Chance now and I hope he puts all that behind him
I don’t think he’s in the same class as Josh Gordon in terms of talent but I do think he’s got talent that can transfer to production in the nfl
I made that comparison as our version of Josh Gordon, not that Williams is on the same level.
Im not getting the playing down Reshad Jones. They guy is absolutely a key part of our defnses, he can do just about everything a safety does at a high level which is very uncommon to have a hybrid style safety be good at all of it. We also all know that stats dont tell the whole story, and we also know that PFF’s ranking system isnt accurate to what a player does or contributes as part of the overall defensive scheme.
Im not pulling for us to keep him or get rid of him, and im not happy with how he acted at the end of the year last year, but we had a lot of disgruntled players, some of which were disgruntled because they care about the team and not liking the direction its being taken. Its easy to judge those games as Jones being a self-serving primadonna, and it may well be that way, but it could be different, so to me hold off some of this judgement and stop trying to push him out the door. Im in agreement with Piggy, trade him if the offer is good, keep him and utilize his skills if you cant find a trade partner,
His beef last year was with Gase. You don’t care that he didn’t show up for voluntary OTA’s?
A lot of Veterans do that. I dont think its the act of a primadonna, i think its the act of a 30+ year old professional trying to limit the punishment on his body. I do think its a bad move with a new coach, at least be there and be around the guys and coaches, but again it doesnt bother me as much as it seems like it does for you because i see legitimate reasons he might want to avoid non mandantory items. There are already players lost for the year because of OTA’s.
Lots of people had a beef with Gase, including the FO apparently, look at whats going on in NJ. I dont see a beef with Gase as anything other than interacting with Gase, it seems eventually you are going to have a beef with that guy.
D — but he was the only one who didn’t show up. Have they put pads on yet?
“I think he is smart enough definitely to move around. He can play corner, he can play safety, he can play nickel, he can play a variety of positions. He’s a smart player.”
— Flores, not about Minkah but Bobby McCain. Sounds like McCain at FS might be possible some formations.
I think they are looking for guys they can move around like that, i do think McCain is a huge liability on the outside though, maybe Minkah too, but i though McCain looked pretty bad last year at the position.
To me both McCain and Minkah looked like they should be playing inside, whether short, middle or long. But that’s the the thing. We have 5 good (legit NFL starter) to possibly great (Reshad, Minkah, X) DBs, but only one of them best suited to the boundary. The schemes should be interesting.
D – We’ll see if he shows up June 4th for mandatory mini camp. We can take it from there
What would be the reason for him not to show up? Unless we’re looking to trade him and he’s aware of it.
No idea Tim, same reason that he didn’t show up for the other OTA’s?
Omar visited Cuba and has been given glowing reports of his time there. Now Armando is going off on what Omar is saying without mentioning him. Funny stuff!
Mando is one of those cubanos whose family hates Castro. Not sure where Pig’s family is on that but some of them take it as serious as can be. Many in the younger generations say enough time has gone by to let it go. And definitely an age transition on that. Omar — well he’s just Omar.
I understand Mando’s issue with what Omar is reporting. He thinks it’s short-sighted.
Tim — could not agree with you more, even without reading what the two said. The whole Cuba issue is a big one down there. Wasn’t trying to say you didn’t get it in the least. Just adding my take on top of yours. Sorry if seemed like saying you didn’t understand.
Nope, didn’t take it like that at all. 🙂
Jones probably has another 2-3 years(maybe) where he can play at a high level. He does have a slight injury history, but he’s also a 9 year vet…hard not to have had some injuries in that long of a career. I think he’s expendable only because he probably isn’t going to be playing at a high level in 3 years…when we are, hopefully, a competitive playoff team. It doesn’t make sense to invest in an aging vet as a long term answer. If he was a 5 year guy, you pay him and build with him. Going into his 10th season, you consider the future without him. If I do trade him now, I want good return. I don’t just trade him to get rid of him.
His window does not fit yours for sure. And what you get back is the issue. Could see him going to a team that needs him down the road after an injury for a better price than we can get now though. But that chance might not even come up. You get your cards and you play them…. and he could force a trade.
Reshad Jones did go under the knife during the off-season. He finally had surgery on a partially torn right labrum which he managed to play through most of the season last year. It is expected to be fully healed and a none issue for this upcoming season.
https://phinphanatic.com/2019/05/30/rashad-jones-ready-2019-miami-dolphins-season/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Okay, so maybe he’s rehabbing and it’s a non issue that he didn’t participate in OTAs.
Again, if its not a mandatory camp, he is doing what he thinks is best. It might not feel that way to the coaching staff or to us as fans but he’s a professional and he knows his body better than we do. Too much is being made of this, if it carrys on or a shitty attitude carrys into the PS, then maybe there is a problem. Right now i think a bunch of people are jumping to a conclusion.
carries
I think there is still plenty enough to not like about Cuba if you ever had it affect your family. People who live there still live in some pretty bad conditions and the government really doesn’t care. They also still have gestapo like law enforcement, and a really bad crime element to boot. Not that there aren’t beautiful things to say about the place, but there are certainly elements to it that a American tourist to the country will never pick up on. So i think Omar accounting for his experiences on his trip are a personal recount, and off limits to be criticized by Mando, but if he was making more global statements about the country and maybe even a few “things arent as bad as they are made out to be” then he is out of line and Mando has a point because his family lived it.
Just go to Omar’s and Armando’s twitter. The discussion on this is recent at the top. Omar said some dumb shit.
As far as what Randy just said that one of my bigger thoughts on it too, is he part of this rebuilding team by the time we expect to be rebuilt, and ill say maybe jst on the edge of it. We might get a couple of years out of him after we have made our turn around, but i wouldn’t see much more. Again, i think if the offer was right, and/or the team and Jones are in the same place about ending the relationship, then i hope a trade gets worked out. I wouldn’t be opposed to him ending his career here either though, though i think thats pretty unlikely.
June 4th isnt too long for you “get off my lawn” types is it, to get your final answer to whats behind Jones being missing?
He shows up and has a good attitude, all is cool with me. I’d still prefer to get a nice 3rd RD pick for him, but that’s just because as I’ve said here 100x I don’t think he’s going to be with us when we’re really competitive
He may have already been traded, just waiting for June 1, why else would they be OK with his absence?
Don’t think we are really worried about June 1 or not as far as his cap hit. Only lets us spread some of it into the next year and we have plenty. Wouldn’t impact whoever we traded him to at all.
I don’t know that anyone is OK with Jones not showing for voluntary OTA’s. I think if he comes in ready to go June 4th with a good attitude, missing the voluntary OTA’s won’t matter
Also you need to think bout trade value, right now isnt a good time to get trade value, if you want the best pick for him we can get you should hope all is well and that he plays to best of his ability because we need him to be a hot player when some teams winds up really needing a safety.
I think if he’s here and he’s playing well, we wouldn’t trade him unless some team knocked our socks off
Odell Beckham Jr. has attended only one of the Brown’s nine OTAs and also didn’t take part in the three-day extra minicamp. But least we know it is not cause he wants a new contract.
Not exactly the role model for doing things the right way though
New team for him and he skips it. Wouldn’t want him on my team.
I am still a fan.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001032389/article/ryan-tannehill-adjustment-to-backup-tough-at-times
Another guy we gave up on too soon.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001032365/article/chiefs-oc-bieniemy-damien-williams-is-our-starter?icampaign=trendingNews
I liked Williams too. But he did play 4 years in Miami. Maybe he didn’t want to return, not sure.
Reshad makes drive-stopping or TD-prevention tackles in space at a high rate of success
AND has plus ball skills with INTs
AND he can score off TOs.
That’s the Trifecta for a Safety. I want that on my team.
I don’t understand cutting everyone who won’t be here years down the road.
What about the 30-40 games between now and then?
I think Reshad’s beef was with our pseudo DC.
When he met with Gase later in the week, they said they saw eye to eye.
Of course, that is another example of Gase so involved in play-calling
that he lost control of the role of HC running the team.
He did not even know Reshad had taken himself out of the game.
PS: I think Gase was gonna fire Burke but got fired himself before he had the chance.
Omar is Jamaican, right? Does not speak Spanish?
There’s always been a love/hate relationship between the two islands.
Omar is not only not Cuban, he’s not Hispanic OR Afro-American.
But he is a black guy.
Armando is a “White” Cuban.
And they work for rival newspapers.
Lots of angles there.
Just saw part of 2005 marvel fantastic four and I never realized that the original human torch (before they remade the series and made johnny a adopted black kid, SMH at pc revisionism) is also captain america in the current marvel movies
Naples – A big part of the reason I’m willing to take a pick in exchange for Reshad is we have pretty good depth there w/o him. Minkah and T,J., apparently Bobby Mac too, so the way I see it, I’d rather have the pick than the player. Not saying I’m right, it’s just my opinion.
totally not saying you are wrong,
but both TJ and Reshad have been nicked up over the years and
Safety is that type of position.
We need 4 and we have 4.
I just don’t like creating holes.
If we have a good player (pro-bowl), I like to keep that guy.
I guess I am a bird in the bush type who is not sure what a draft pick will bring.
I completely understand. I’d love to have the pick to finally fix the O-line, or maybe if Rosen looks awful, to give us flexibility to get a QB. We may need an OC, OG and maybe even a RT. That’s where that pick comes in handy.
I’ve always felt the same way especially for a player like Jones…And, you think your chances are good he will be that for the next 2-3 years to pass the “baton”. And, imo that would be a huge hand off where everyone wins.
A 3rd round pick is a flyer and giving up value for sure. Very high risk to reward from these eyes.
Is player/team loyalty dead?
Should be high risk, low reward…
Mike
I appreciate your rationale in trading Jones in terms of rebuilding
But that’s about where it ends
I don’t think he’s a problem as a teammate. A dispute with a Gase is a poor example given the volume of people Gase butted heads with
And albeit I think Minkah is great, I do not hold McDonald anywhere near the same class as Jones or Minkah
So I think like, I said earlier, the only issue is what the other team is offering
It really is to be very good compensation to get rid of a very good player IMO
Krishna – Let’s see if Reshad shows up for minicamp first. Then we’ll worry about loyalty.
Willing to wait and see, for sure.
Mike E. says:

Nothing wrong with a hand picked quote if it’s accurate and isn’t misleading as to what it meant.
_______________________
Funny thing….it is misleading because your focus and your argument is on one aspect of his game….and only one, your view he is a shitty boundary corner. That’s your hand-picked quote to serve you.
I think most of us here look at him as a multi-positional DB, perfect for the new NFL offenses, and see something potentially much greater. And, I believe his record as one the best ever slot corners as a rookie was somehow missed from your quotes to “accurately” prove your point and not be “misleading”.
A rookie doing what most DBs cannot even come close to matching his results. I think that’s left out of your evaluation of him as Player, too.
Maybe we should trade Minkah since he’s not a solid boundary corner and see if we can get a 2nd for next year?
The facts don’t lie, he was subpar there. The point is, why play him there if that’s not his strong suit. Am I making this point to belittle him, or am I just saying they’d be better served to play him elsewhere? That’s how points are made Krishna, there’s NOTHING misleading about that quote, it’s accurate. This is how you make a case for something. You give evidence, and let that make your point. Not sure why you have a problem with that. Otherwise, what’s the point of discussing anything really?
I think I’ve said he should be used where his strengths exist every time it’s been discussed, and that he was drafted as a db first, NOT boundary corner. Yet, you focus on where is weakness lies.
Guess what, the fact that he can play multi-positions is a strength too. The coaches have to put him in better positions to succeed if on the boundary and not use him as their default cb when everyone is out.
You keep focusing on his weakness to make your point. We got it and know it.
Not sure why you’re down on him and don’t give him the kudos I think his rookie performance deserves….they played him out of position for several games and you blame him. I don’t get it.
Yet in his best position you ignore the stats. Again, I don’t get it.
I see both sides of the argument and dont care either way unless we dont get good value for the trade. I’m fine if we trade him.
I love all DBs we have and can’t wait to see how all the pieces will fit together. I don’t think we have too many safeties, too many corners, outside or slot. Can we get better? Hopefully, we have this year and can in next year’s draft.
This may be my second favorite sport behind College Football!
Improved from 7-9?
DB = same + Rowe
LB = same plus not rookies and better depth
DT = better (Wilkins)
DE = worse (no Cam Wake) (or anybody else)
K, P, LS = same
TE = same plus experience plus Allen (BLOCKER)
RB = minus Gore but he is now officially ancient
OL = ???? but can it be any worse?
QB = ahhh well, so Fitz > Oz and Josh = Ryan
HC = rook vs. wack = a wash
DC = a Pop Warner volunteer would be better than Burke
other coaches and staff about the same
sooo … we’re the same with a chance to be better
but the schedule is brutal and the Jets and Bills got better
soooo … 6-10 if we’re lucky or 4-12 if not
oh the link
GIven that our over/under is 5….. Vegas would agree. Same time, having the team not all that changed as far as quality as we rebuild is either a good sign for the future or one of what a wrong direction we were going in before.
you probably have seen these ab out Rosen’s spirals
For Rob
having a team first mentality and production are 2 different things, he simply does not produce as a featured RB. he can’t, he’s unable too, he needs to be used in space then he’s great however when most see his blinding speed they are impressed and dis regard his numbers. the most important down in football is 1st down, advancing the ball more than 4 yards on 1st down is key, that means you have 2 downs to pick up 2nd and 6 or less, it’s the difference between winning and losing. Drake cannot produce that yardage on 1st down.
you make an excellent point
So has McCaffrey beed suspended for PEDs yet?
Krishna – I think I’m a pretty fair fan. I’m realistic, not a blind follower. I try to give the whole picture. I stated my opinion that I think Minkah was overrated when someone started that thread of Best Player, Most Overrated Player, etc . I feel like some people here just overrate him. I don’t think he’s overrated by the league necessarily, just by the overall group here. Jack of all trades are fine, but when you have a player that really excels at certain things, keep him doing those things, and if he can’t improve on the others, eliminate them. Do you remember Jason Allen? Allen was never the prospect Minkah was, but they moved him all over the place and it’s possible it hindered his potential development. Anyway, as far as how people act as fans, we’re all different. If you want me to kiss every players ass, that’s not going to happen. You asked about loyalty, the way sports are these days, I think Seinfeld said it best, we root for the laundry. I have no loyalty for Reshad, I have loyalty to our team.
Mike E — don’t think Minkah looked all that bad on boundary. He just looked like another corner, which is actually pretty good given that playing there is not why he got drafted so high. Almost like making a RB a slot receiver. Clearly not where his special is though, but same goes for McCain too.
From my recollection, I wasn’t impressed with his play on the outside, and it seems FWIW that PFF agrees. That doesn’t make him a bad player in any way, I’d just keep him away from the outside, and seems like they have plans for him to do more different things anyway. . I don’t hate Minkah, and I don’t think he sucks. It’s funny how things work here. . . I guess because I give a negative opinion about his play and I don’t lick his ball sac, now I’m going to be labeled a hater. Whatever . . .
You didn’t come off as a hater at all. And could not agree more that Minkah should not be on the outside except in switch up situations. My worst nightmare is someone says “Minkah’s the guy opposite X” other than injury. But I do bite the cheese on him, even FS is where think he should be most of the time.
Our defense is going to be a different scheme than last year so where guys line up is going to be new and we have no idea how it will look and perform yet. We’ll have a better idea after a few games because it’s going to look different based on opponents game to game. That’s what I’m excited to see.
Scheme is gonna be different for sure but whatever it is if they put two guys out wide, we will have two DBs matching them.
Yes but that might also be about matchups based on opponent. That’s why Flores wants guys learning multiple roles. They might feel Minkah matches up better against specific WRs, the same with Rowe, McCain etc.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001032435/article/sam-darnold-studying-peyton-manning-jay-cutler-film
k that’ll work
now here’s a guy comparing our 2019 line-up to our play-off team of 2016.
https://www.lockedondolphins.com/dolphins/my-money-is-on-the-miami-dolphins-making-the-playoffs/
Do we know if they are using McDonald at LB some? That could be a reason they are using McCain at FS some. Could have nothing to do with Jones.
Don’t know but McDonald dropped 15 lbs. this offseason to play quicker.
BBM — got think if they are looking at McCain at FS means they are thinking maybe Minkah up closer and in the mix. Also think other team is gonna have a hard time figuring out who is doing what most of the time. The confusion D.
Great, as long as we’re not the ones that are confused. 🙂
Is as confusing as this sentence?
Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo.
Drake cannot produce that yardage on 1st down.

Except when he does it for over 10 years…..then it doesn’t count….Still SMH at you. you are WRONG sir.
Then tell me why Gore took his job as the featured RB last year? he’s great in space but he can’t run btwn the tackles and pick up the tough yards on a consistent basis.
IT’S A FACT
gore had a job here, that is a fact, but not anymore
there are no facts saying Drake cant run
who made the tackle on Drakes Miracle in Miami, Gronk? lmao, nope
there are facts and videos that Drake is a patriot killer, he destroys the cheats with tough hard running, and neither one of us would be able to stop him, lol
Im still watching that video of the blind autistic guy singing and playing the piano. That shit is amazing. It would be pretty amazing even if you forget about his difficulties, but considering them its mind blowing.
It is mind blowing. And like you said, it’s not just because of his difficulties but because he is actually very good.
I know, same here. Shared it with a bunch of people. Amazing!
I don’t think McCain is moving to Safety full-time, just that he’s learning that position too. Flores wants to see how versatile all of his players are. To game plan for specific opponents and to make adjustments within games if something isn’t working. Opponents are going to see a lot of different looks where the last few years we pretty much played the same way all the time.
I agree, seems to be working as many of us are confused all ready. LOL I forgot about McDonald losing that weight.
Or maybe they are thinking about Minkah back there and McCain as his back-up.
Man some of you are so angry we aught to fire everyone and…………….
Oh wait!
LOL — already happened. 🙂
I’m actually looking forward to this season. Just see what the new crew has in store as far as scheme, see if we got a franchise QB, kick the tires on the new rooks. Certain freedom when everybody but David knows ain’t gonna be playoffs. And when you know 2020 awaits.
That’s exactly where I’m at. Think of making the playoff as a special surprise, not an expectation. I didn’t think the 2008 team was making the playoffs winning the division coming off of a 1-15 season either. 😉
When you think about pundit pre-season predictions, think about how many got that one right. LOL
Stanger, I think Flores and his staff are looking to find out what the players on this team can and can’t do so they can determine how the team moves forward. Who fits where, and who doesn’t fit at all. Simple as that. If you want to be multiple in what you do, you start it right away and let the competition decide. Then build on that.
way too soon to react negatively IMO
voluntary workouts are just that, and its common that some players with years in the league might not need
if i was Reshad, I would skip the non mandatory practices too, he already knows how to play and is in shape. plus there are many practices and a preseason coming soon, Reshad hasnt missed anything in development and this will have zero effect on his career, a huge nothing burger
the team hasnt fined anyone for not attending non mandatory practices, so they dont see it as a problem, actually that would be stupid and the players union would sue them
trading Jones? why? there isnt a reason to trade him, but there is a reason to keep him, the dudes a bad ass safety and has played very well for us
do GM,s trade everyone that misses non mandatory workouts?
stanger, i dont KNOW Miami is going to the playoffs, i see it as very possible, and an absolute goal
i do think its possible, even the bucs won a super bowl proving anything is possible
what would u have said to someone in 1977 ,that the bucs will win a super bowl someday?
what should the teams goals be? win a game or two? who has these goals?
the goal has to be win a championship, every year.
granted we most likely will not win a championship next season, but we can and should be in the playoffs, and we must fight for it
if the goal isnt to make the playoffs, then i will search for a real team to root for
when You say You cant, You CANT, You have already defeated Yourself
They should absolutely try to win each and every game. And have the playoffs as a goal. But then “we” are not “them.” And “we” have nothing to do with what happens on the field….. much as at times we like to think differently. 🙂
mcain playing safety sounds really bad, wtf is that
he isnt a safety, and isnt big enough for it’
im sure other teams offensive coordinators are hoping Miami is that stupid or desperate, to put an undersized mediocre cornerback at safety
if we do it, they will beat us soundly, make us pay for the mistake
im more concerned that Albert WIlson cant practice even if he wanted too
i hated the move to bring the part time performer in for full time pay
Wilson is way overrated and way overpaid, and didnt even crack the top 75 NFL wide receivers, nor is he able to practice so far this season, SMH”
stocks on pace to correct for the six week i n a row, 5 trillion of value in the US market has been erased because of whimsical tariffs that serve no purpose for Us.
many investors are selling at loss, including Me, because they feel more correction is coming, some are saying a 70 percent correction is now on deck, putting us into 1929 territory.
i was able to recover my losses with Crypto, those are international and not subject to tariffs
Disney is tanking even if they are undervalued terribly, if Disney isnt going up, the market is fucked, they are the canary in the coal mine
but BSV is up 232 for the month, the white house, president, congress, or tariffs dont effect crypto whatsoever
Realize whoever is talking “70 percent correction” correction is just looking for clicks. And for every second of the history of markets there has been someone saying “the end is near.”
Yea, but I have personally watched the six weeks correction, so that part of their prediction is correct
Btw, I don’t see a single soul, not one saying the market is doing well or will thrive in an era of tariffs, we all know that isn’t what happens
Smoot towley tariffs were infamous for worsening the great depresseion, and the mere mention of the tariffs was the day before the big crash of the Great Depression
Business groups are now filing lawsuits against the White House for the tariffs , this is far from a good investing market, it’s a big bear market
The Mexican tariffs were a wtf surprise, catching US businesses at recently located to Mexico from china in the middle. It’s impossible for them to develop business plans with chaos at the top surprising investors with nasty news everyday
Check out the blue chippers yourself, it’s not pretty
Yea the guy reporting a correction might be full of it, but he is right the investment market is currently toxic, chaotic, has no direction but down, no buyer volume, etc
So it’s not much of a reach saying more correction is coming, it’s expected by many including myself
Crypto is the saving grace, The US or the White House cannot fuck up crypto
BSV up 232 on the month, Disney down ! What to do? Yea, I had to sell some Disney for crypto, something I never planned on or thought I would do
But I need gains, and there aren’t many gains in the shitty bear market
David — my point was “70 percent correction” means a depression. And for sure not a tariff fan, quite the opposite. Way am set up the smaller downs like we are getting at least don’t impact me too much…. even if don’t make as much on the rises. If anything cause a lot in bond funds…. they compensate.
wake up guys, lol
man, everyone must have partied hard last nite
i just got back from a few days in GA, its hotter there than it is in FL
and the bugs, wow, horseflies, gnats, mosquitos are so numerous You open Your car door for 5 seconds and there are hundreds inside the car, damn, how do People live like that?
i thought FL was world famous for bugs, lol
nope , second fiddle to GA for sure
but the veggies in GA are to die for, the GA soil is perfect for farming, we get crappy veggies in FL
it was such a dramatic difference in taste, im actually considering having GA produce shipped to me once a week, FL veggies are tasteless by compare
i was amazed at how many old men in GA are still working the farms in the heat, its gotta be a super tough job, the farmers have cuts and bruises, look like they endured a super tough life sunburned, and many were in their 70’s
i dont think i could work the fields at that age, kudos and mad respect to the people working very hard to put food on our tables
🙂
You think packing boxes for hurricane relief would make the guys feel good, but every single year the charity event the players love is the fishing tourney. And I get why.
David, there are starting safeties in the NFL who are smaller than McCain. At 5’11” 192 he is not all that small. He is a hard hitter and probably our second best tackling DB (50 solo tackles, 2 sacks in 2018). I don’t get where he is a mediocre CB. What, cause he played out of position on the boundary some last year due to our clueless DC. We all know he is not a boundary CB. That doesn’t make him mediocre. In 2017, when he played mostly as slot CB, he was our highest rated CB over X-man and the rest. He is in the NFL top 10 at slot CB. He is also very smart and a film junkie. Just the type of guy our staff wants.
They are just trying to figure out who can do what. And FS makes a whole lot more sense for him than outside. Also makes more sense for him than TJ or maybe even Jones.
He was rated higher than xman? I didn’t know that, How many interceptions did Mcain have? Xman had Seven
Want to put Twenty on it, I’ll take the side he will not be a successful safety
How would we measure it
BBM said, “In 2017, when he played mostly as slot CB, he was our highest rated CB over X-man and the rest.”
Your stats are from 2018.
No matter, your point about Bobby is well taken, but so is BBM’s. He’s a great slot DB, but not a great boundary CB.
Both McCain and X had great seasons and then were rewarded with great contracts. Then Burke f’d up McCain by playing him out of position. Burke also F’d up Minkah the same way. He also f’d up Kiko the same way.
In fact Burke basically f’d up everything he touched.
“Burke was not retained by the Dolphins after they hired Brian Flores as their new head coach in February 2019. Burke became a defensive special assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles on February 25, 2019.”
thanks for that, i wasnt aware of that cherry picked non significant stat from years ago.
Xavien Howard was the top cornerback in the league in 2018, and Mcain didnt do much at all
i fail to see how doing very little at CB, makes people think He can be a great safety
David — I at least am hoping McCain plays real well for us. And wouldn’t it be great for us if looked like could play FS too? All they are doing is giving him some reps there.
Damien Williams just became fantasy relevant. Been named the starting RB for the Chiefs.
““Damien Williams is our starter. We expect him to excel in that role.” — KC OC Eric Bieniemy
BBM, Mcain had six less interceptions than Xman had last year,
He had only 1
So u are telling me 1 interception is better than 7?
I’ll have to disagree for obvious reasons
Howards seven int was tops in the NFL, number one, and inked a huge contract
He did it in only 12 games, smh, earning a pro bowl berth
What did Bobby Mcain accomplish? One int? big whoop de doo
Did he make the pro bowl too?
i realize some players like Minkah, are versatile and can play anywhere in the secondary.
if the coaches can make Mcain a great pro bowl, NFL leading safety, lol then they deserve coaches of the century awards
and Flores will have elevated his status above Shula in a single season, lmao
not likely to happen
btw
… practicing McCain @ FS is a good idea, so sometimes during a drive,we leave a “funny” package on the field, and the opposing DC up in the booth is confused about our personnel package and doesn’t know what to call down to the field until too late or at all, and we get a little advantage … patriots’ style.
I think when our D comes out next year and huddles they aren’t gonna know who ends up where. Back 7 (or maybe 8) is gonna be a bunch of smaller fast guys who will run to the ball but in what way will be hard to game plan for.
that reminds me of when the patriots put a funny package out there with Gronkowski playing safety
we were surprised alright, lmao, and took advantage of the mistake at the same time
No that does not at all relate.
That was an extremely rare mistaken personnel package call by Bellichek / Flores born out of over-confidence mixed with a funny spot on the field and being on the road impinged by wild crowd noise and extremely brief time to make a decision.
We had the ball in Tweener-land and in hindsight anyone can see that we were too far to do a Hail Mary, but Bellli thought we would just give in and heave one up as far as the QB could throw it and hope for the best.
That actually showed the respect Belli has for Tannehill’s arm, since most QBs could never reach the end zone from where we were. But Belli thought Tannehill might, so he put in the Mighty Gronk package on D, never dreaming the big TE would be tasked with playing FS trying to make an open field tackle on an experienced 4.4 40 kick return specialist with game-winning Kick-off TDs under his belt.
In contrast
What we are trying to do with our DBs is what Stanger is explaining above, whereby we have guys able to assume a role successfully for a play or two so as to give the opposing DC / QB very difficult pre-snap reads and maybe steal an INT or squelch a drive just by the element of surprise or confusion. Maybe make them waste a time-out.
I doubt the coaches are planning to deploy McCain as a starting FS or even play him there more than 10-15% of the snaps (unless it works out really great).
the gronkowski mistake illustrates why not just anyone can play safety
safety isnt a position to be mocked by inserting ass clowns , u need REAL safeties
Gosh David, surely you don’t think McCain is as bad a FS as Gronk?
If McCain had been back there, he would’ve tackled Drake on that miracle play at about the 12 yard line. Game over; we lose.
Or really almost any Real Safety would’ve made that tackle.
The Gronk mistake illustrates the soaring arrogance of Belli to think he can do no wrong.
And actually having a 6’6 guy with ball skills standing in the bunch on a Hail Mary, facing the QB, just watching the ball sail in, and timing his jump with no real competition at his height is a very good idea.
You just can’t ask him to become an open field tackler trying to hit a moving target who has a full heaad of steam and a knack for making guys miss anyway.
im sure Mcain could be a better safety than Gronk, lol
but it shows how bad things can go, when you put a non safety in at the safety position
It’s the frick’n slow time of year. Should be all about peace, love, puppies and kittens…… oh wait it can. 🙂

I like the idea of McCain as our nickel and Jones and minkah as our safeties with McDonald playing more of a hybrid/utility type
But really all of our DBs should be flexible enough to move around
We are going to have injuries and people have to move around
I wouldn’t put too much weight on where guys are practicing in June. It just might be experimenting
I hope tankersly gets healthy and into the mix too
If we have Minkah, Jones, McDonald, McCain, Howard, Rowe and a healthy Tankersly I think we have a pretty good group of dbs
And maybe we move Jones if somenone makes a good offer…but and only if someone makes a good offer
the June experimenting idea is fine, thats a good way for the corners to understand what the safeties are expected to do
im not WORRIED< im sure the coaches will put our best safeties on the field when the regular season starts, and they and we know who our best safeties are
It’s all part of the multiple.
Cornerback (6)
Xavien Howard
Eric Rowe
Bobby McCain
Cordrea Tankersley
Torry McTyer
Walt Aikens
Safety (3)
Minkah Fitzpatrick
Reshad Jones
T.J. McDonald
this is a great looking secondary IMO
two awesome safeties, best CB in the NFL with Howard, and Rowe will do well as a starter too with Mcain Covering the slot, or playing nickel and dime packages
anyway You slice it, I believe Miami may have the top secondary of 2019 in the NFL
our defense is rounding into shape, next year we get a Devin Bush caliber LB, an Edge rusher, fill out the OL and this teams loaded for greatness
That’s why people picking us to win zero games or maybe two are not really following this team. We have quite a bit of talent in the secondary and at pretty much every position. The OL and Edge are the two most questionable areas and then obviously how the QB position plays out current and future.
Thinking that Flores, O’Shea and Schuplinski all coming from the Pats will not be overly conservative on offense but will also try to be balanced. They know scoring early and often helps the defense be more opportunistic. Yes they have Brady but that doesn’t change the fact.
That means they will be smart enough to attack the weakness!
Not try to drive a round peg into a square hole??????
that will be a nice change!!!!!!
You especially have to love that Flores is a big proponent of using a full-back. 🙂

You know I’ve been screaming for a FB for years! 🙂
Up early smoking brisket, gonna be a great Sunday!
I can’t wait for this season, looking forward to a peek at what we’re working with,
Defense sounds like it should be a lot of fun to watch, love exotic looks, keep them guessing as to what your doing is half the battle
On offense at this point I’m just looking for a sign of competence lol
i Was really disappointed in the offense that Gase had brought here,
Just hard to watch,
Nespresso on the beach….😎. I think I smell the brisket, too. 😉
