Who will be the Miami Dolphins workhorse RB?

We all know Kenyan Drake is a HR hitter, a big play waiting to happen on any and every play. However, is he the proverbial cowbell running back that you can feed the ball to 20+ times a game and control the clock and have long productive drives? To be fair, he hasn’t been a given a huge opportunity to do just that. He was given a small audition, but with future HOF RB Frank Gore at his disposal, Gase chose Gore over Drake to get the slight majority of carries over Drake, and start drives on 1st and 2nd down. With Gore gone, there is no other proven NFL back on the roster.

Ballage showed some nice things last season although in a very small sampling. Ballage had only 36 carries for 191 yards last season and also added 9 catches for 56 yards.Ballage did have one huge run for 75 yards, which makes up almost half of his production, but we shouldn’t punish him by detracting that from his stats. I think Ballage may have some potential, he seems to be a solid receiver out of the backfield, and possibly offers more in the power department over Drake.

Myles Gaskin is probably the closest thing to Frank Gore in this backfield. I’m in no way saying he’s as talented as Gore, but he’s more of the low to the ground bowling ball type that that run either inside the tackles or to the outside. Gaskin had a wonderful, productive career at Washington. His 945 carries i9s actually more than both Drake and Ballage’s college carries combined! His 57 rushing TD’s is also more than Drake and Ballage combined at 57-46. His 5323 yards rushing is almost 1.5X Drake and Ballage combined. So what does this all this mean?

I think we’re going to have a backfield by committee. I don’t think we’re going to have a feature back, and I think if we’re keeping along with the New England way, we will feature a back that best fits our particular game plan that week against a particular defense. If we we’re playing a slow plodding defense we may feature Drake more to exploit their speed. If we’re playing a fast defense we may feature more a power set with double TE sets and a FB and either Ballage or Gaskin getting more carries in a power rushing attack. Just like we will be on defense, we will use personnel on offense to match up better with our opponent that week. The Patriots constantly changed like a chameleon using James White, rookie Sony Michel and RB/FB Rex Burkhead so that each week, their opponent couldn’t nail down a game plan against their offense. It was pretty effective in that regard. It’s like a baseball team trying to gameplan against 3 pitchers in one game, very hard to accomplish.

I like the different skillsets each back brings and as a unit, I think it’s a pretty solid one. This is the final year of Kenyan Drake’s contract so I would imagine he will be hungry for a nice contract next season which will give him some incentive to play his best. Ballage will want to add more of a workload from last season, and Gaskin is really the wild card. He has a lot of miles on those legs, but he might get a fair amount of carries if he can do for the Dolphins what he did for the Washington Huskies. As far as our 4th back, that’s too much up in the air right now to go into depth about it. It will probably be either Kenneth Farrow, Mark Walton, Patrick Laird or possibly even a player on another roster that gets cut once teams cut down to the 53 man roster. No matter what, I’m confident in the 3 we currently have.

GO DOLPHINS!

Wyoming, thanks for the link on Fromm! It covers everything I have ever said about him. He will be the best overall QB in the next draft, IMO.

So i went innocently to find a video of how to actually catch the damn scallops,
since BBM did not give me a tutorial, and I found out this is how to do it.
First you get somebody named Luiza to help you:

    Naples – You’re a heckuva researcher!

We really need more rain. NOT!!!! This has got to be one of the rainiest springs we’ve ever had in the NE. It’s crazy.

  5. Mike E. says:

    Try – How about SOTW?

  6. bailbondmike says:

Naples, that is the most perfect scalloping video I have ever come across!! Also, it perfectly depicts what it’s like there. The calmness and clarity of the water. It’s beautiful.

  7. Mike E. says:

Try – She doesn’t appreciate the time I have to take to research the perfect candidate for you all.

  16. naplesfan2010 says:

David gosh man that is so unkind.
Let’s see what you look like at age 70.
You’ll be amazed at what is not in your control.
You can’t compare a 70 year old girl to a 25 year old girl.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      oops
      sorry
      65
She was born in Dec. ’53.
She was gorgeous in “9 1/2 weeks”
and looked great posing nude in Playboy.

      • yes, she did look very good in nine and a half weeks, that was 33 years ago

i havent seen her in at least 20 years, one remembers others as the last time they were seen

i understand people get old, we all do, but not all of us have her horrible plastic surgeon, he did a poor job imo which is a shame

  17. naplesfan2010 says:

    Sorry about that David.
I might be a little defensive about growing old
as I am the age of Kim and Michelle and several others like them.

I remember looking good for 9 and a half weeks myself
    40 years ago.

In my mind I still see myself as I was when I was about 30 or so.

Being old is interesting in that I now can appreciate women ages 25 – 65,
so there is that. Lots of beauty to see.
And I don’t see them only physically.
I see what they know and think and believe and have endured
over a lifetime of interacting with this harsh and beautiful world.

Some of the pictures displayed of Kim are tying to show her
(and her surgery) in the worst possible way.
Remember she was married to Alec Baldwin for a while in the 90s,
so some people have knocking her on their agenda.

She’s a southern girl, which I like when they are the sweet kind

I like to imagine that she is sweet and from 9 and a half
    and from her Playboy photoshoot,
I got the feeling that she is fun to be around.

I bet she’s still hot in person.

    Anyway, she’s a blonde
who has not let herself get fat and frumpy,
so I’m good with that. That’s all a girl can do.

    • i hear Ya, im not far behind her and dont look as good as she did in 9 .5 weeks, lol

you wouldnt want to see my strip show like she did, lol

i am not knocking her personally, she is a victim of a poor doctor

plastic surgeons get paid thousands of dollars, but do not earn it IMO

  18. Mike E. says:

It almost seems a certainty that if you’re in Hollywood, you’re going to have surgery. They want you to look a certain way, and if you no longer fit that bill, I guess you don’t get any work. Shame that’s how it works, but that’s probably how it is.

  19. Mike E. says:

Naples – I think Basinger always had a wholesome sexy look to her, not that trashy slutty look, if you get what I’m saying.

  20. ocalarob says:

when i was young i had a crush on Jaqueline Smith of charlies angels

  21. Mike E. says:

As a kid, I had the biggest crush on one of my sisters friends. My sister is almost 5 years older than me, so when her friend was 16, I was 11. One time her friend slept over and my sister told me the next day that in the middle of the night I woke up and climbed into bed with her friend and that they had to carry me back out. I didn’t remember any of it, but I believed them. They eventually told me it wasn’t true, but I think I was disappointed to hear the truth!

  22. naples i bet u dont like Miley Cyrus

shes so trashy she looks like a poster child for communicable deseases

she has an ass like a chicken, i dont see what is so hot about her

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      100% agreed,
although she has improved her personality as she has aged.
      (although I’ve never heard a girl’s ass compared to a chicken’s … ewww)
(i can imagine what you mean … so not hot)
She was not even attractive while twerking.
      Wait … is anyone?

  23. steveccnv says:

Well, back from the Bavarian side of the world, and 47 beers a day later😉

The only thing new seems to be Fitz and Parker have bonded quite nicely.

    • welcome back Steve, how was it over there?
did You leave some beer for other thirsty travelers? lmao

      • steveccnv says:

Fuck, they drink so much beer… I think there’s plenty left.

The people in general are very polite when they speak with each other, but they’re assholes, just like every place else when driving or walking 6 wide or standing in a group blocking the aisle.

Ice was scarce, the food was mostly over priced and not close to ours. The beer was great, bretzels, sausage, halal and fries on every block, Heineken tour was pretty cool, as was the Castle that was used as the model for Disneyland’s castle.

Venice was crowded, but really cool. The Alps were amazing.

The autobahn was interesting, but more construction than I’ve ever seen before, so it took away from the no speed limits.

    • ocalarob says:

you should try the dominican republic, people are dying to go there,…..

      i’ll pay your ticket!

    • stangerx says:

Steve — if you ever wanted to challenge one of your friends to a drinking contest now is the time. The beer is twice as strong there so your tolerance should be sky high.

  24. Mike E. says:

Hey Steve, welcome back! Sounds like you had a great time and peed many gallons of fine beer

  25. naplesfan2010 says:

    Hey Steve,
    Welcome back.
The Dolphins look awesome so far.

I loved Bavaria, but am so jealous that you got to go to Venice,
one of my main unvisited places on my bucket list.

  26. Steve, construction on the autobahn? o man tough luck

always wanted to drive that road with a bad ass whip

if there is one thing the US leads the world in manufacturing, its gotta be ice

everywhere i went in the world there is either no ice, or its very tough to find,
but in America, everyone has ice , its everywhere

I have no idea why Ice is loved by Us, and rarely used by others

the only plausible theory is because they arent into refrigeration or AC like We are.
Air Conditioning was invented in America, and we are the most air conditioned people on the planet

  30. steveccnv says:

Part of the issue with ice is the expensive utility costs.

    • stangerx says:

It’s also culture. Not like the EU countries are poor. They just like less ice in their drinks. Beer warmer too, but after having had a few understand why. Lets the flavor of them out. Try bud at the same temp.

  31. Tim Knight says:

Steve, glad you had a good trip.

  32. steveccnv says:

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

  33. steveccnv says:

Stanger, all the beer I had was ice cold.

    • stangerx says:

That is interesting. But then never been to Germany before. How were the prices? It’s on my list.

      • steveccnv says:

The prices weren’t bad, just dont go to Switzerland, everything is expensive there. No tolls in Germany either. Hotels in the big cities are a little high, and a 3rd person can be extremely high with extra bed fees as much as $80 a night.

  34. The Flying Pig says:

    Welcome back Steve

I hope you learned how to say pig in German

    • steveccnv says:

No, but while in Amsterdam we went to a windmill tourist trap that had some petting animals, while driving up to it, it looked like pigs, but was really fat goats.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        What a shame

To believe you are in the presence of great animals only to find out they are goats

  35. steveccnv says:

When I got home I checked my mail, and for the first time I have been selected for jury duty.

    • The Flying Pig says:

I guess the State of Nevada welcomes you back too

    • Tim Knight says:

You’re lucky, I’ve been summoned 6 or 7 times I can’t remember. I’m tired of it. I think there should be a limit for those who have been summoned multiple times. Then let those who have not or only one or twice stay in the pool.

  36. Krishna says:

Nice article, Mike E. Would love to all options used and keep mixing it up. I think it’s more of a strength, but need an OL.

I just got out of GRAND jury duty and used the Mrs. K card. It would have been for 3 half days a week for 3 months. Yikes!

    • Krishna says:

      ^see

    • Tim Knight says:

I did grand jury every Friday for 3 months back in the mid 90’s. But my job at the time paid me for it so I didn’t mind.

      • steveccnv says:

I get paid from my job too, but not sure what happens to the $40 a day they give you. I believe I have to turn it back in.

    • Krishna says:

I would have to make up the time nights and weekends, as self-employed.

      • Tim Knight says:

Being self-employed as in if you don’t work you don’t get paid can usually get you out of it – financial hardship.

      • Krishna says:

I will say the criteria when I answered my subpoena did not list financial hardship as a choice nor did the judge during the enpaneling process nor did I use that.

    • Krishna says:

Also, to be clear, we all swore an oath to tell the truth about our request to be excused. I did.

  37. Rockphin says:

Florida is screwed up. I get jury summons all the time. I have to appear with MY FREAKING GREEN CARD to prove I am not a citizen and cannot serve on the jury! But I can’t just call. I have to appear in person with evidence! WTF!?

    • Rockphin says:

they used to pull from the voter registration lists, but I guess they thought that not enough people registered to vote so they changed it to drivers licence holders. There is nothing on the FL driver’s licence that says if you are a citizen or not.

  38. Tim Knight says:

Steve, $40 per day is decent. In NJ it’s $5 per day. None of my jobs ever asked for that money back even when I had to show up, sit in the waiting room to see if I was selected until excused.

  39. Tim Knight says:

Krishna, that’s BS that the court can say financial hardship isn’t a valid excuse. So you put a person in a bad financial situation so they can sit on a jury deciding whether someone is guilty of a crime or not? That’s some major BS right there.

  40. CavalierKong says:

The obligation for Grand Jury must be different in other states than CA. I was selected for Grand Jury once years ago, but it was optional. The form basically said since Grand Jury cases most often convene for much longer than regular cases, you can choose to opt out, no reason necessary. Regular jury duty you have to have a specific reason, such as mental illness, sole provider, etc.

And speaking of jury duty, I have to call in for it next week. I usually get a summons the second my 18 months is up. I never mind getting called in though, it’s like a vacation. I’m government, so I get paid.

Welcome back, Steve. Did you tell everyone you’re Canadian? lol

  41. stangerx says:

Glad Steve did his Euro Vacay in Chevy Chase style….. but after reading these posts am left wondering what passport does Rock have? Know he’s been in FL many years.

  42. Krishna says:

Maybe, it’s my fault. Perhaps I didn’t think working weekends and nights was financial hardship. I’d have to go back and re-read.

As it was, I calendar was my seat and I didn’t really get this was a one and done. In fact, they went through all 80 of us (I was 72) and asked us if we had excuses. At first, I didn’t object. Then, when I realized the commitment and the lame excuses, I interrupted the court and added mine after they went through everyone. Couple of others spoke up after that, too.

  43. Mike E. says:

Last time I served for jury duty I was there 4 days and did not get chosen for a trial. Not even a voir dire, didn’t even get picked to be in that pool

  44. Mike E. says:

My job blows, they don’t pay us squat for jury duty and we have to use vacation time I believe. Maybe the law changed on that, but they used to do that.

  45. Mike E. says:

Stanger – Also, the nickname for the Montreal Canadiens team is the Habs

  46. Mike E. says:

I used to be a Canucks fan but I kind of fell off because I just didn’t have the time to try and keep with them. They play weird hours because they’re on Western time. I check in on them every now and again, and if they play a NY or NJ team I’ll watch for a bit.

  47. i never do jury duty, dont have time for it

  48. Rockphin says:

we lost Sitton the first game of the year, and Kilgore only completed 3 games

part of our OL problems is we cant find guys that can make a 16 game season, they go to IR in September, and we still have 3 months of football to go

      • after watching the cheats beat us 38-7 last season, it was obvious our OL wasnt ready for prime time
we dould not sustain drives, and struggled mightily to even get past midfield
the running game had no lanes, and Osweiler had no time to get passes off

we really need a better effort from the OL this year, and if we get it, our win totals will increase dramatically

its almost impossible to win if the OL is getting overwhelmed by the defenders.

maybe this is the season our OL makes huge progress, we can move ahead if we can

      • steveccnv says:

Based on the depth article someone posted yesterday, we have a serious void of talent on the team, our win total isnt going up this year.

The difference in having a good year vs bad year isn’t related to total talent on the team though, as we’ve seen with teams with great QB play. With that being said, maybe there’s something to this TNT thingy Flores is using.

Why do teams win a title one year, then dont make the playoffs the next, with the same team? Lots of factors of course, but most aren’t related to talent.
