Bye week. Bye players, bye wins, bye respectability, bye competitiveness. here we sit with four games played and the Dolphins are the joke of the league. Scoring a measly 26 points while giving up an astonishing 163 points in the four games. To put that in perspective the next closest team to the Dolphins is the Redskins at 118 points, wow.
So we have draft picks, cap space and hope and that’s about it. Well we have Xavien Howard too, but who else is honestly safe going forward. Who do we have to build on? The O-line is once again a MASH unit although Michael Dieter
appears to be a piece to build on. Son is intrigued by Evan Boehm. Good luck naming another absolute building block for the offense. Who else on the Defense then? Wilkins of course along with Baker and McMillan. Five building blocks for the future with two of them being rookies. We have plenty of guys who show potential but so far that’s all it is. So with 12 games left in a season that’s been pushed aside already, which guys are in for the long haul? Which guys can become building blocks going forward, face it there will be upwards of 35 jobs up for grabs next off season. We have tons of cap space and tons of draft picks.
Hope. Y’all are lifers just like me. As fans all we can do and have is hope, Hope Rosen works out. Hope trading Tunsil doesn’t bite our ass. Hope setting up an environment where a Minkah Fitzpatrick demands a trade is ok. 
Hope letting so many vets walk instead of building on them is alright. Hope Grier and his staff can put together an amazing draft. Hope Coach Flores and his staff can walk the walk and deliver on a system that works, that players buy into and take responsibility for. Hope we see some playoff games as we continue to age. Hope a once proud franchise can get back to being respected and feared. Hope the next 12 games offer some glimmer of light and expectation. Hope Mostly that Grier doesn’t fuck this up as bad as Ireland did.

I’ve yet to have a game broadcast local so I’ve been to the bars to watch the games. Its tough to really focus and the looks I get would ordinarily piss me off but there’s nothing I can say or do when we’re down by 20 or more and it’s ugly. Dolphin gear on that I can’t get home fast enough to tear off. I’m doing my part in an ugly situation, I’m being a loyal fan, I pretend to smile when I say “but wait til next year”, yada yada bullshit. Where’s the girl?

We all knew what we were doing. What’s going on with the Jets and Redskins? The Jets had their potential franchise QB from last year who made out in the dugout with someone and got mono lol, they had a top draft pick and spent a ton of money in FA. They’re 0-4. The Bengals and Redskins are joining us now at 0-5. A lot of teams are headed for rebuilds including the Falcons.

A decent young player who’s had a lot of different issues. Take a look. That’s the mode we’re in. Garcia was drafted by the Pats so there is familiarity with him. Grier is still churning and looking for diamonds in the rough off the scrap heap. Find the young core to go into next season off of this year and then use that bulk of Cap and Draft capital to upgrade on it 2020.

Our closer gives up 3 runs in the 9th inning of game 1 (luckily we eked out the win). Our closer gives up the lead in the 9th inning of game 3 with another 3 runs (and we lose), and today we give up the lead with 3 unearned runs on a bad error. We also had 2 errors in game 1. (This from the team that led the league in least errors this season.)
Oh well, it was a good season. Post season was a bonus. Congrats, Cards!

Now you see why I wasn’t all that concerned about you guys getting Greinke. He’s been pretty average in the post season, and got shellacked again today. Bumgarner on the other hand, who I was worried you guys would pick up, has been one of the best post season pitchers in major league history.
Not that I think it’ll make all that much difference. It’s going to be very difficult for the Yanks or the Dodgers to beat you in a 7 game series. And Atlanta or the Cards (we’re still alive in the 10th right now) have zero chance if either of them somehow make the WS.
I could tell by the way the Rays batters changed after tha starters left that Geinke was going to have a hard time!

Guys, I feel compelled to say something that will PROBABLY(!) be controversial! LOL 😀
We are doing an entire REBUILD, from the ground up. We traded or cut all of our great young talent, save a select few who couldn’t net us another 1st or 2nd round pick. Thus, we’re sailing a bare-boned vessel. YES, I do believe that we’re trying to win under the circumstances. And YES, I don’t believe we’re supposed to win while sailing this bare-boned vessel.
Our owner (whether you like him or not) decided to RESET this franchise. That means, no more 8-8 or 7-9 for the next decade. And it certainly means we’re not going to the playoffs this year, as we’re not competitive enough from the roster perspective.
The worst thing we can do is finish with a winning record… meaning, we’re not supposed to win with THIS roster if we couldn’t win with the roster we’ve had over the last several (putting it lightly) seasons.
If it hadn’t occurred to anyone else, we’re trying to get HIGH picks in the 2020 Draft… with 3 #1s, 2 #2s, and 2 #3s. That said — and being this season is SUPPOSED to be failure — let’s not fuck it up. I’d rather take that nasty tasting cough syrup ONE time (this year), rather than taking it again and again and again for years.
I’ll never root for us to lose (too much PHINS PRIDE in me!!!), but dammit, it’s probably the best medicine for us to swallow to get out of this sickness of 2 decades of mediocrity.
In short, if you support Steve Ross’ leadership, let us lose as planned to get the MOST via the 2020 Draft. If you DON’T support Steve Ross’ leadership, let us win in order to get the least out of once-in-a-lifetime Draft haul.
I’d rather take my medicine NOW, in order to get better ASAP. JMO, and sorry if I made anybody angry with my simpleton take here.

I went to lunch with a coworker the other day and when the waitress tried to refill my soda I told her no thanks, I’m trying to drop a few pounds and believe it or not just cutting a few sodas a day and watching what I eat really has helped.
My coworker asked if that was the only “dieting” I’ve been doing and commented on how I look better and have lost weight. (30 LBS) and I said yeah I gained a bunch of weight when I quit smoking (53 lbs over 18 months) and I’m trying to lose it before I see a bunch of my internet friends for a reunion next week.
She said that’s a lot of effort for a bunch of guys you see maybe once a year. I laughed and said it is not for them knuckleheads it is for me but it was a good deadline to motivate me.
I stepped on the scale yesterday and was under 200lbs for the first time in a while. So you guys don’t get to see “Fat Rock”
good job cutting out the sodas, they are terrible for the health, i havent drunk a soda pop in 5 years and lost weight.

I still enjoy a soda with lunch and one with diner and will not switch to sugar free, but just cutting back from the 5-6 I was drinking throughout the day to 2 max has been tremendous.
4 soda pops equates to 500-600 calories.
or a 1/4 of the “recommended” calorie intake for a day.
I haven’t had to do very much more than that. (I have been working out a LITTLE more and perhaps been a little more conscious of what I order, but I still will get the baked potato loaded. LOL)

Rock — try to switch to diet sodas. Been on them since high school when was losing weight for wrestling. Hated the taste first time around, but was better than water. After that season was over thought the regular sodas tasted so sugary sweet that made me want to puke. So was a transition time.
And there may be health problems for them too, but not so proven at this point. Every time a doc talks about switch to water….. ask want me to switch to sugar ones instead? Not one has ever said yes.
My faves are Diet Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper, back in the day tasted closest to the regular ones.

I will not make the switch to Diet Cola / Soda. It tastes like poison to me. Too artificial. I will drink unsweet tea or water and enjoy it ore than Diet soda.
Besides it’s not like I have a life long weight problem. I quit smoking and my metabolism slowed down and I was substituting food / snacks for the cigarette urge. Once I stopped substituting the weight started coming off. Slight modification to my intake seems to be doing the trick.

There is a guy at the diner I go to who gets a double chilli burger with loaded chilli fries and a diet coke. I asked him one day (being the ass I am) “Dude, Really?” Do you really think the Diet coke is going to help? He told me that, believe it or not, he likes the flavor of diet better.

Diet beverages containing the artificial sweetener ingredient aspartame may cause migraines and impaired concentration because they alter nerve signals, brain chemicals and the brain’s “reward” system. This may lead to insomnia or anxiety. A recent animal study found damaged cells and nerve endings in the cerebellum of rats who drank diet soda. The cerebellum is the part of the brain that controls motor skills.
Also, Aspartame itself may not be “toxic” itself but when you metabolize it it breaks down into Methanol which is toxic. Methanol is then metabolized into formic acid which is basically formaldehyde.
Aspartame tastes two hundred times sweetener than regular table sugar. Splenda is six hundred times sweeter. Brain scans show that diet soda alters the brain’s perception of sweet foods and increases cravings of more sugary sweets

Tim, you know a funny thing about taste preferences is that they can change. I find diet sweeteners disgusting but others may like them. I really like Brussells sprouts other hate them.
As I stated I quit smoking last year after 35 years of smoking. Now my sense of taste has changed. I used to hate vinegar and anything that was too vinegary (some BBQ sauces, some pickle types and other stuff) and I used to love Yoohoo. Since I quite smoking my tastes have changed so much that I cannot stand Yoohoo. It’s freaking gross. I thought I got a bad batch. Waited a week and bought some more. Nope that shit is just bad. I had a salad last week that normally comes with balsamic vinegar dressing and I always substitute it for ranch or blue cheese but I forgot to and I was amazed that I liked it.
Then there is the homeraide. That shit is just bad and should not be drank by anyone. LOL

See that is the thing about studies. Are fat people or those trying to lose weight more likely to drink diet sodas? Only makes sense. Does not mean the diet sodas made them fat.

My mom has been addicted to diet pepsi since I was just a little tot. She’s not heavy and doesn’t drink it for any reason other than the fact she loves the taste.
To me it tastes like someone spiked my drink with battery acid, but hey, to each their own.
Does she drink diet pepsi instead of coffee? I have a few friends who drink soda instead of coffee and they drink it all day.
She doesn’t drink coffee, but she also doesn’t drink D. Pepsi for the caffeine or a coffee substitute. It’s just her drink of choice for flavor. It’s weird, lol.
I always have to make sure I have a 2 liter of Diet Pepsi on hand for moms, especially on Thanksgiving or other holidays.
Cav — don’t be so sure of that. Don’t drink coffee either, but when overseas and diet sodas are hard to find have noticed that caffeine free Diet Coke doesn’t solve my jonesing nearly as much.
LOL, it’s my mom, so I can be sure of it. She prefers regular diet pepsi, but is just as happy with caffeine free diet pepsi.

I like to cut them in half and toss them in olive oil and herbs de provence and then back them on a cookie sheet at 400 for 20-30 minutes. The broiling caramelizes them and brings out the sugar content and cuts the bitterness. Mmmmmmmmm

Are the Miami Dolphins in danger of losing their third-round compensatory projection for Ja’Wuan James? The short answer is yes. James left during the Broncos’ Week 1 game, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be back this week after being off the field since Week 2. Nick Korte of Over the Cap has projected the line of demarcation at six games missed for James. According to Korte’s formula, if James is out for six games in 2019, then the Dolphins third-round comp would become a fourth-rounder.
While no one has perfectly replicated the NFL’s official compensatory formula, Over the Cap has done an excellent job of re-creating it, and have often been right on their predictions. I am mentally preparing myself for the fourth and not a third since James will be missing another game this week against the Chargers.
That’s one of the reasons I didn’t want to re-sign him. He’s not durable.

So I went to the LAC game last week supposedly as part of a Clemson SFla Club event.. It was supposed to include a meet and greet with Christian Wilkins if we bought enough tix. We did not I guess because no one sent me an e-mail about the meet and greet.
The tail gating party also was a bust.
So lo and behold Wilkins schedules a meet and greet for club members on his own at the F’n Wal-Mart in Doral.
That’s a helluva young man there.

Does anyone know what it means when a team decides to start over and rebuild the team starting with young talent? Move on from the old guard and a team that has been stuck in mediocrity for two decades. It had to happen. They’re rebuilding the house instead of living in the same one with too many issues that never got fixed. Now reporters and fans find ways to criticize and make fun of that too. Stay the course or start over and neither one is okay. LOL
We’re going to have about $100M in cap space and 5 draft picks in the top 64 along with a potential 12 overall draft picks in 2020. What is the problem? The 2020 team will look nothing like this 2019 team. And we don’t have to have the #1 pick to turn this around. That’s silly. 😉

In the last 40 years, a 1st rd #1 QB has been a Super Bowl winner 13 times among 7 QBs. Can you name them? We don’t have to get the #1 pick to turn this team around and be a contender. Sure if you miss out on a HOF QB that could be the difference in being a champion or multiple champion, but the idea is to become a good team and a perennial playoff team. First things first. LOL
FIRST THINGS FIRST, eh?? WELL over the last 10 years, the Ross organization has utterly failed to develop an above average offensive line. A sturdy O-Line is the basis for almost every successful NFL franchise. And I don’t believe Miami currently has ONE O-Lineman who has much chance of becoming an All-Pro. IMHO, TWO of our first 6 picks in the 2020 draft should be O-Linemen. Let’s give our next starting quarterback a chance at success. Not even a QB with the arm of Dan Marino and the legs of Usain Bolt could be successful behind our typically underperforming O-Lines of the last few seasons.
