The Dolphins brought back long time NFLer Chan Gailey to be the Dolphin Offensive Coordinator. After Patrick Graham, 2019’s Defensive Coordinator left at the end of the season to take the same position as DC for the New York Giants. The Dolphins then promoted Josh Boyer who was cornerbacks coach and defensive passing game coordinator for the Dolphins last season. Special Teams coach Danny Crossman returns, I think he did a great job last season. Wide Receivers coach Karl Dorrell is also back for 2020. Running Backs coach Eric Studesville also returns for 2020, despite the struggles of our run game which ended up with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick as the leading rusher. Ugh! Rob Leonard returns as Linebackers coach and Steve Marshall will be the Offensive Line coach. George Godsey will return as Tight Ends coach and the development of Mike Gesicki was a job well done.
It’s a little disconcerting to me that Patrick Graham left to take the same position with the NY Giants. No promotion, just a lateral move. It hurts a little, because defections bug me, when players or coaches just choose not to be with our team. Jim Caldwell also appears to be completely out of the picture now for whatever that’s worth. It’s not that Graham was so great last year and Caldwell basically stepped away early in the process due to “health reasons” last year so not a big deal.
To the roster. There will be so many additions to the team in the coming months of Free Agency, followed by the Draft and then once again followed by Free Agency. That will be huge. What’s as important are the subtractions, most notably Xavien Howard. What his situation is exactly is unknown, but I like to plan for the worst. Nik Needham and Ken Webster were our starting CB’s to end the season, and it’s not that they were bad, but if Howard is out for most or all of 2020 and maybe even off the roster period, we have a lot of work to do at CB. We all know OL, DL, DE, QB. RB, S were already big needs and now we may need to add CB.
The good news is we have tons of cap space for free agency. According to Spotrac.com we have the highest available cap space in 2020 with $94.3M. I think the last time I brought this up we were just behind the Colts who are now 3rd. Regardless, we are flush with money to spend freely to improve the roster. Then we have 14 picks upcoming in the 2020 draft. 3 first round picks and 2 second round picks is a good way to get that started. We know the roster will be very different and I hope that GM Chris Grier and HC Brian Flores can start building a winner.
GO DOLPHINS!!
#staythecourse

Piggy, OL in FA don’t have to be all-pro, just solid starters.
I want everyone to be all-pro…lol
I hear you. But there is some good OL talent in the draft this year
Do both.
I am looking at going to the draft in Vegas. I figure it is a good year to go as a Dolphins fan, and we have direct flights from my hometown
Awesome!
Should be awesome! I’m sure DolfansNYC will have people there too
I expect a big Dolphin turnout
Outside of some big trade we Phins fans get to be all over the 1st round.🙂
The thing is, I really don’t like Vegas, why couldn’t this be the year the draft is in Chicago? Lol
Vegas is about to be the new NFL city.
Yeah,
Never been a fan, guess I am one of the few
TIM, OLB Josh Uche, Michigan last 2 seasons, 15.5.sacks, 2 FF,3 PD’s
Senior Bowl Practice Eval
Riser: OLB/EDGE Josh Uche, Michigan 6’1″ 250 lbs – In whatever he’s been asked to do this week – whether it’s dropping back in coverage or ferociously rushing the passer with bend off the edge – Michigan’s Josh Uche has clearly been the best linebacker in Mobile. At just 6-foot-1, it’s going to be hard to see Uche’s future with his hand in the dirt as a defensive end, which is why he needed to show scouts he could play in space as an off-ball linebacker with situational rush value. He did just that and then some this week in practice, and I think he will win over a lot of NFL teams.
Nice! What round is he projected?
He reminds me of Terell Suggs
Isn’t Shaq Barrett who had 19.5 sacks a FA now too?
Likely priority resign what I hear.

Bradley was a beast yesterday.
i was watching a you tube video about Ricky Williams, like a documentary of his life
most of us probably didnt really understand or like everything He did, but when he was in a good place, he was an incredible back with power and speed, great spin moves, power, catching ability, he had all the skills You would want in a back, unfortunately, He wasnt long for the NFL for physical and mental reasons.
but it sure would boost this teams success to have a powerback like RIcky , without all the other suspensions and early retirement drama.
look how far Henry took the Titans, they beat the Cheats and Ravens in their houses back to back, not too bad considering Tannehill was the QB

Takeaways from Senior Bowl: (Thedraftnetwork)
Good info as Kelley was not on my radar.
UCLA’s Joshua Kelley was the game’s leading rusher with 105 yards on 15 carries, icing the game for the North team with a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter. Of all the running backs in Mobile, Alabama, I thought Kelley looked like the most poised and sharp ball carrier. His cuts in practice were explosive, and his play strength was on full display in the game. Nobody wanted to tackle him in the fourth quarter after he kept pounding the rock, and with what he showed in pass protection drills in practice, I think many teams will view him as a three-down back.
Two other running backs that stood out were TCU’s Darius Anderson and Florida’s Lamical Perine. The first two touchdowns in Saturday’s game went to these two backs in the passing game. Perine caught a pass in the flat by Oregon’s Justin Herbert and broke a few tackles on his way to a 16-yard touchdown. A quarter later, Anderson got the North team on the board with a 75-yard score on a wheel route thrown by Michigan’s Shea Patterson. Both Perine and Anderson averaged over six yards per carry in this outing, showing different sides to their game than what is displayed on tape.
Thedraftnetwork:
Utah EDGE Bradlee Anae Has Breaking Out Party
The most dominant player in Saturday’s game was undoubtedly Utah defensive end Bradlee Anae. He was a one-man wrecking crew in this game, finishing with three sacks and several other pressures. His hand technique and vast toolbox of counter moves made him the Pac-12’s Defensive Player of the Year, and it’s scary to think he took his game to another level at the Senior Bowl. He dominated one-on-one drills, exposing poor timing and footwork by the offensive tackles with his unpredictability. Anae’s three-sack performance Saturday was just a glimpse of what he did throughout the week, and despite measuring in with 32-inch arms, I believe he should firmly be in the top-50 conversation from here on out.
I heard there were concerns about Throckmorton and that he would be better at the next level to move inside with the flexibility to move outside.
Thedraftnetwork:
Not A Great Day For Offensive Tackles
Whether it was the speed of Michigan’s Josh Uche, the power of Syracuse’s Alton Robinson, or the intensity of Anae, the offensive tackles in Saturday’s game had no answer in pass protection. There were countless sacks in this game, and much of the blame goes to offensive tackles like Texas Tech’s Terence Steele, Oregon’s Calvin Throckmorton and South Carolina State’s Alex Taylor. All three of these prospects were turnstiles and responsible for the quarterbacks being under constant pressure in the pocket. A big credit goes to the aforementioned pass rushers, but for Steele, Throckmorton and Taylor, Saturday was a “burn it and forget it” kind of tape they will never want to revisit.
He actually played all 5 positions at some point in Oregon
So, whether or not he has to move around or not isn’t the kiss of death
He’s probably not going to play LT in the nfl
I agree Piggy. His versatility will help him.
He led the North team to 3 TD’s in the 3rd quarter yesterday! I here nothing but talk about his terrible footwork but there is something about this guy I like. Quick release, strong arm, accurate, can fit the ball in tight spaces, good pocket awareness and sees the whole field well. He is better than Gardner Minschew with a much stronger arm. I would not mind if we took him at 135 (I think that is our projected comp pick).
Washington State’s Anthony Gordon Emerges As Legit QB Prospect
The only player in this game with multiple touchdowns, Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon put on a show. He finished Saturday with 69 yards through the air, two passing touchdowns and a 67 percent completion rate. Gordon came into this week with several question marks, especially with his background in an air raid offense. Scouts and coaches wanted to see if he could read the entire field, go through progressions and throw accurately at all three levels of the field. He completed each of those tasks throughout the week of practice, and he followed it up with the best showing of any quarterback. Herbert took home the MVP from Saturday’s game, but make no mistake about it, Gordon gained the most from any quarterback in Mobile.
Thedraftnetwork:
Notre Dame CB Troy Pride Jr. Finishes Dominant Week
With LSU’s Kristian Fulton, TCU’s Jeff Gladney and Ohio State’s Damon Arnette all absent from the Senior Bowl, the week was a prime opportunity for an under-the-radar cornerback to stand out. That cornerback was revealed to be Notre Dame’s Troy Pride Jr. He was lights out in press and off man coverage all week long in the one-on-one drills against a talented wide receiver group. His speed and quickness on the boundary were expected, but he contested every catch point with aggressiveness and an opportunistic mindset, something he did not show much on his college tape. The biggest concern I had with Pride’s tape was his assertiveness, and we got the most confident version of him yet. He was undoubtedly the best cornerback on the practice field, and then he followed up a dominant week with a 33-yard interception in the Senior Bowl. Pride helped his NFL draft stock more than any other defensive back in Mobile.
I’m posting this link about the Senior Bowl centers. I know many of us are high on Biadasz but I read an article on him where an NFL scout was saying he didn’t feel Biadasz played at the level in 2019 as he did in 2018 following having hip surgery in April 2019. Scout said they would do a thorough check on his medicals at the combine. Article said he was a 1st round projection coming into 2019 season but has slid a little to day 2. Tried searching for the article for the last 10 minutes but can’t find it. Looks like Cushenberry might be the top center in this draft with Biadasz and Hennessey next up.

Aaaannd that is your Sunday morning read. LOL
Thanks BBM for all the info
No problem!
Again, I like Gordon’s quick release and ball placement. Senior bowl highlights:
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-draft/0ap3000001099025/Anthony-Gordon-highlights-2020-Reese-s-Senior-Bowl
I think it roll into Herbert’s highlights after.
Herbert seems to have made the most of senior bowl week. All the scouts are saying he was the best QB there for the whole week
I think I still have to pass on Tua at 5. To many ?? about health for me. Hate to see us use that pick on a QB who may not be full go come TC. If we don’t trade down and both Tua and Herbert are gone by pick #18 (most likely), I am taking Gordon by pick #135. I think he could be stashed on PS without getting poached (hopefully) while they iron out his footwork. Also, while we give Rosen 1 more look. Then look at drafting another QB in 2021.
I think it would be a mistake if we pass on Tua or Herbert and bank on Gordon as our answer at QB
Not saying he is the answer. It’s an option, though.

So much for that
You are a bad man…… but we already knew that. 🙂
So true 😉
I’ve done a few tourist trips on helicopters. Know what am doing, but don’t feel nearly as safe as stepping on a plane . But guess there is some story out there that it is safer than driving a car.
Sad that his 13 yr old daughter was with him.
I just found out my friend John was onboard the helicopter with Kobe. John was the baseball coach at Orange Coast College were my son went. They won the state title in 2019. He was a great guy and well liked by everyone 😔
Wow Phindog that is horrible and brings to light that there were 8 other lives ended today whom also had their own influence on others.
My condolences
Thanks Bookman. I’m in shock right now.
What an asshole
Now that is cryptic.
Phindog, so sorry about your friend. So tragic for all affected.
Thanks Tim. John was really good people, I’m thinking back of all our conversations and laugh’s we shared.
Man that sucks dog. Have had some close to me die from illness, but was known that was coming. Never in the blink of an eye.
We all have my friend. It’s a part of life. But it is the worst part of life.
Fuck Man !! I just found out John’s wife and daughter were onboard as well. His daughter played on the same team as Kobe’s daughter GiGi. I hope this is not true. This is really sad.
Oh man I’m so sorry, bro.
This is unbelievable.
I am sorry for you Dog
I’m sorry for all their families and loved ones. I’m numb and sad.
I’ve met Kobe and his family quite a few times over the years. I can’t believe this tragedy with all involved.
Doggie most sincere condolences my friend
Thanks buddy.
I just found out John’s other daughter and son were not onboard. I can’t imagine what they are going through. At least they have a huge family support around them. This was a great family. So tragic.
We all know how we feel when we lose a loved one. It’s so heartbreaking and painful. I can’t imagine what these two kids are going through losing their parents and sister so tragically. I’m not sure I could get through it. I hope they do find the peace & love to get them through it.
They have an unbelievable great family support around them. It will be difficult but the family will support them. JJ his son is a professional baseball scout. The kids will be around the best support you can have. I’m thankful for that.
That’s great to hear. I wish them all the best.
RIP John, Carrie, Allysa, GiGi and Kobe as well as the pilot and the other three passengers. I feel bad for all the families and loved ones involved. What a tragic day.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend Phindog
Every time we go through these tragedies, it’s a reminder to make the best of the time we have
Every friggin time it’s a reminder.
I agree and live my life like tomorrow won’t be there, but do think of the future at the same time. If I didn’t I would have never met all you cool people in person. I’m so glad to have met you guys that we have met. The fest has become a family tradition that we cherish every year and will continue for years to come..

Here is John and his accomplishment’s. Hell of a guy !!!!
Sounds like an awesome guy. He impacted a lot of lives.
I’m not looking to make this a political debate, just wanted to point out something that I saw tonight on Facebook.
Someone posted about the Kobe Bryant tragedy. People are saying so sad, his daughter was also killed, the sad emojis etc. Then there is a reply from some Betsy woman who says I wish it was Pelosi.
That’s how fucked up some of our country is. All they think about is politics. I’m sure someone said the same thing about Trump.
People die in a tragic crash and here come the red and blues. WTF?!!!!
Yeah it’s messed up that people can’t put politics aside
I see it all the time on FB, people I know. But I also have enough family and friends who are quick to put it out. You can mention any subject and someone will worm their way in with a political comment. Because that’s all they think about.
Subject Poster: The way they used echo and miking the amps was great.
Political Goon: Did you know the engineer was a well known Nazi or Commie. Pick one!
Subject Poster: Uhm… we’re talking about the recording process of a classic song.
It’s absurd. My guess it’s always been like this but now they have easy ways to express it regularly to the masses. Welcome to the greatest melting pot experiment on earth.
As Piggy said earlier “make the best of the time we have,”
Some people on this planet will never get the chance to express their views through the information age. Those of us who do, we’re fortunate. Try to be responsible with it.
That is ignorant fucktards just spewing their hate on a tragic day. I hope they all get fucked in the ass and bleed for weeks. There is no place for these fuckers on either side.
Sorry but LMAO!!!
On a lighter note, and it’s important to laugh, even on sad days
If you want to feel old…turn the Grammys on
I feel like I’ve been sleeping for 20 years and woke up to a sound apocalypse
The mainstream music industry has completely changed. Much of it is not my cup of tea but I also realize my generation is no longer the current one. That evolution has been going on forever. My elders said what is that nonsense you’re listening to? LOL
The thing is, there is so much music now
And so many different vehicles to receive it
That you can just listen to old stuff forever
Next thing you know
You listen to something new and are like “WTF? What happened?!”
Piggy, technology broke open the music barrier to a much broader audience. I lived it when musical technology took off in the 80’s. Synthesizers, effects pedals, MIDI, drum machines etc. It exploded. My friends and I used to discuss this all the time, where are we going?
But great songs live forever. Contemporary was born from the classic past. Music might be the best sensation we have as humans on a spiritual level. Even religions use music. So do sporting events. Every vehicle comes with a radio. Interesting! How many people do you know that say I really don’t like music of any kind? LOL
Phindog, Sir, my deepest condolences on the loss of your friend and his family.
Such a rotten accident to have happen to a loving family.
Thanks Naples. They will be missed but their legacy will live on.
On a lighter note,

Thanks Brother. You all would have dug John and his family.
Aerosmith is on now
And now i feel really old
My 8th grade girlfriend bought me their 1978 live album for Christmas. You’re feeling old? LOL
I feel this is a beautiful song at this time.
You want to hear a kid that will be famous in no time ? Listen to Josh.
Good stuff, bro. What’s with the curly blonde dudes being the Garfunkel’s of the world? LOL
Right? But they do that as well and nail it.
And this guy does it better than me and some of you have heard me play this.
Here you go Tim.
These kids are awesome.
This kid is awesome
This is for son of of a son of a Clapton 😆🏈🐕🥃🥃
Here is Josh getting his silly on 😆
And this he nailed
So sorry Doggy about your friend. Very sad story
Thanks Mike E.
RIP Kobe Bryant,
I’m a twin rated pilot and as i was watching the golf tournament yesterday, it had started late due to fog in the area.
Then they announced the helicopter crash.
Due to heavy fog any aircraft taking off would have been in IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) condition, i just wonder if the weather had anything to do with that?
Its pretty damn ridiculous some of the comments you read on twitter about shit. Facebook seems to be the every person gets a trophy social media platform. “I just took a shit today” 36,000 likes, and like 90 comments about how proud and happy this and that person are for them. Twitter is the opposite, no matter the level of tragedy someone always turns the comments into a fucking warzone. Truly sad.
Social media let the common man have a voice…. it also let us learn how common the typical common man is.
I think it goes even further, it encourages and strengthen, the flaws in the common man’s humanity. Twitter right now very certainly is a place for divisiveness, hatred, narcissism, and pride. You cant make one post about anything and not have 100’s of people pile on and turn it into a us vs them. Facebook, is the opposite and turns everyone into a suck up ego stroking place where all deeds bad or good are propped up by others. Neither place are good for the health of a society.
Great insight there. I’m more concerned with the twitter phenomena — just not healthy. And for every crazy group of thoughts there is some spot on the internet that says they are normal. Used to be you couldn’t get that in your home town.
“For Zach, I think he absolutely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, He was a Hall of Fame player. Some guys, God reaches down and touches them, and they’re great. They’re great because certainly you work hard and all those things, but God gave them more ability than some other people. Zach is somebody who made himself a Hall of Fame player. He willed himself into being a Hall of Fame player. He absolutely deserves to be there.”
— Trace Armstrong
Very cool. Loved Trace when he was here, he was fantastic for us.
In the story I pulled that from Trace also said at first he thought Zach would be an awesome ST play and a 4th or 5th LB….. but then he saw him play some more.
I agree he does, he played the game like its supposed to be played, all heart, left it allon the field, no saving for later. Keuchly is a guy who i think is very like Zach, but also had that God given gift on top of it. People are already saying Keuchly is in Canton with a half life career, if thats the case you have to consider a guy like Zach with how hard he played the game, with the success he had playing the game, for his ability to keep going year after year and all while not given that leg up.

HA!!! ROFLMAO! Soooo true
WTF! A reporter actually said that?
I heard it and it was a really bad slip of the tongue. You could tell with how nervously she corrected herself so quickly.
Slip of the tongue sounds like giving her the benefit of the doubt. Lakers and Niggers don’t sound alike
She was doing a report like a news spot and was talking quickly and jumbled her words. I don’t think she meant to say that. It was really unfortunate and I’m sure she’s horrified.
D, I don’t do Twitter, only read the sports stuff. But FB can be pretty bad too. Even between people who are related and friends.
I think the reporter was trying to say Chicken Nuggets
IT’S LA LAKERS…..

——————————————————–
She is a former New York reporter who covers the Knicks, they said that she said Nackers mashed up Knicks/Lakers but it came off sound very much like the other word. There have been several reporters say slip up words, i saw a retort posting of a black reporter saying Niggeraguans instead of Nicaraguans again, completely mistaken, and admittedly they looked horrified, but kinda soldiered on same deal. I don’t think at all she meant to say that and people calling for her removal are blowing it out of proportion. She doesnt have a history of anything racial, just fucked up. Lamar Jackson actually called out Wallace for making something out of nothing, he said he heard Nackers.
covered, not covers.
Agreed. Also what would be her motivation for saying that on purpose, to ruin her career and reputation? She had a tongue twisted moment and that’s all.
Ok, that’s entirely different. So she didn’t actually say Niggers, she said Nackers which they took to mean Niggers. I didn’t hear it so I’m just going by what was written in that post.
When I first heard it I have to say it did sound like the N word but I knew that going in. My response was “oh man that’s not good” but I could tell she twisted her words and corrected it immediately. It was an unfortunate mishap and in today’s social media everything gets blown out of proportion because nobody can make a mistake anymore.
I’ve noticed that nobody is even making a big deal out of it anymore. It died down real quick because objective people realized it was a mishap and people in the biz know she’s not racist and is well respected.
She obviously did not mean to say it even if it came out. Maybe she had stage fright. First time in court had to put my hands in my coat pockets cause they were shaking so bad. But then got some more times like that in and… Yada, Yada, Yada,….. became the obnoxious guy you all know. 🙂
She said she mixed Knicks and Lakers which isn’t odd because she was reporting on the NBA. I sometimes feel some people want racism to exist so they can’t accept a mistake.
And am assuming her saying “I screwed up bad” wasn’t enough for some folks. Without seeing a pic also guessing she is some real cute white chick.
Even if it was a mistake it was disturbing. That word should not come out as a slip of the tongue. If you believe in “Freudian slips” it means that word was on her mind
You’re talking about it, so it must be on your mind too. Is that disturbing?
I managed not use the word. I don’t get your point
The point is with race coming up in 50% of everything the mainstream media says these days, it’s on everyone’s mind, so either we’re all racist, because of it or no one is.
Stanger, this is the reporter.

Was thinking would be more like this…..so guess off on that guess.

That’s a man baby
The first one
I’ve seen Alison Morris do the news many times before. That was not a racial slur. It was an unfortunate word mixup though, that’s for sure.
If she mashed up Knicks and Lakers, Knickers is more likely, and that’s what it sounded like.
She said she combined the word Lakers and and Knicks.
I haven’t listed to it over and over again to hear a “g” sound. But we do hear knickerbocker all the time without it sounding like a racial slur, so her justification sounds a little…meh…
I do think it was just a mistake.
At worst a Freudian slip. Maybe she’s secretly a racist. But I don’t want to try to delve everyone’s subconscious.
I’m more concerned with how they present themselves. Her apology was a little half hearted, saying “I apologize for the confusion” but it’s clear enough to set a standard that racial slurs aren’t appropriate on TV
I think that’s enough
I don’t think you can ask for more from people on TV
People seem to assume the worst. Maybe she said the racist slur unintentionally and is ashamed of it. Maybe she grew up hearing racial slurs and had made efforts to get past that.
There’s a lot of maybes we can explore before we conclude that she intended to degrade a whole class of people, after a tragedy, bc she’s a secret nazi. That sounds pretty extreme to me.
Once she apologized in any manner, I don’t think there’s anything left to ask of her. She’s probably going to be walking on egg shells around the people in her life for a few months to prove to everyone she’s not a racist…lol
The 2 starting RBs in the SB were on our roster in 2015. Damien and Mostert.
There are also 2 backups in the super bowl that played for us
Matt Moore and….gulp…Chad Henne
The day we start deciding what people meant by what they said and don’t take them at face value is a dangerous day. Anyone can flub words and not mean a damn thing by doing so. You have to look at the person as a whole.
That dangerous day is already here. We have guilt by association, guilt by accusation, we’re losing due process, and there seems to be plenty of people putting words in other’s mouths right now.
When you consider how wide spread discrimination is
And how detrimental it is to people and our country
You have to balance those harms appropriately if you want to live up to our principles
There’s a reasonable medium where people can concern themselves with what they say, the words they choose and make efforts to change them when necessary VS fire everyone you we think might have inferred something discrmintaory
We all have our work cut out for us to find that balance
Just my .02
Discrimination is a two-way street, unlike what some want you to believe, just as racism is.
As a non-Cuban, try to get treated like the Cubans are in Hialeah. In downtown L.A., try to get business from Asian people in the garment district, if you’re not Asian.
These are just 2 examples, but there’s many more out there.
With that said I agree with what you wrote.
And then we have Hollywood, the hypocrites that they are. Stephen King recently said, Oscar’s are rigged for white people.
They try to preach there morals to us and yet…
Piggy – Well said
Steve – If Alison Morris gets fired, then that dangerous day is here. I’m gonna hope we’re not quite there yet.
I hope you’re right.
Wasn’t there a weather guy let go last year in your neck of the woods for a similar mishap on MLK day?
That day has been here for awhile now. Cancel culture society. Instead of common sense and benefit of the doubt, we assume the worst intentions and do not accept any explanation as reasonable.
Kong – The Tri-state area? I have no idea.
OK, I found it, happened last year. He said Martin Luther Coon King Park when referring to MLK Park
Whoa… that one is hard to explain.
Was he fired, or did he apologize and get a slap on the wrist sort of thing?
You can listen to Kareem Hunt’s recent traffic stop. And the cop is a huge Brown’s fan.
Interesting parts include Hunt saying he would fail a drug test and the cop saying they deal with a lot of professional athletes. How many are there in Cleveland?
Piggy – He was fired
Here’s the story . . .
https://www.thedailybeast.com/weatherman-jeremy-kappell-fired-over-racist-slur-while-naming-martin-luther-king-jr
And if you watch the video, it was clear he just flubbed the sentence. But again, nobody can accept a reasonable explanation. It obviously has to be a Freudian slip. Clearly the guy is a racist.
I was watching football with my best friend a couple of weeks ago (he’s black, I’m white). One of the players had his dreads tied up, I think it might have been Derrick Henry, and it looked like a raccoon’s tail.
Without even thinking about how it could be perceived I turned to my bud and said “his hair looks like a coon tail”. Of course my buddy knows me, and we both laughed it off. I was just glad it wasn’t in public. i would have looked like an idiot.
I’m not racist. It wasn’t a Freudian slip revealing a deep and dark undercurrent of spite for black people. It was a simple statement. That wasn’t technically a slip of the tongue, but I’ve had those too, that are just as bad. Anybody that says they have never had an embarrassing slip of the tongue is full of shyte.
I see news people make slips ALL THE TIME. They are just usually harmless jumbles, and not hot button topics. But like I said earlier, in today’s society, we have to read evil intentions in everything and throw common sense out the window. Oh my gosh, he said coon then king on accident! how is that possible?! She mixed lakers and knicks and it sounds suspiciously like the n word!!! smh
It’s just not vindictive and any harm that may occur to anyone can be usurped by an apology, which is just as or more valuable to perception in our culture – saying something isn’t right makes a difference, and apology does that
It’s a little weird to me to fire some one over a mistake or flub, unless there is a pattern their. I don’t think the EEOC (I interned there whole in law school) expects employers to do that – they just expect an employer to take steps to prevent a hostile work environment
It’s not the EEOC or any other regulatory agency that expects employers to fire people in these circumstances, it’s us. The public outcry is what employers are concerned with, especially when the product is intangible and a matter of people ‘tuning in’. It’s employers doing what the customers demands. It is frustrating that this is where we are. Cancel culture.
Probably if you are on TV, the public outcry weighs heavily
But generally, for people that aren’t public figures, it doesn’t really make sense for an employer to have that kind of reaction – that’s over the top if you ask me
Yeah, agreed, in the case of an employer or company that isn’t in the public eye, firing makes even less sense. Of course, it’s situational. Like D mentioned below, if there is a history or pattern, that is when these kinds of things need to be looked at as more than a mistake. I just would like to see more reason, and less visceral reaction to these things, but i might as well wish for a Dolphins Super Bowl while I’m at it, lol.
When it comes down to it for me its an “is this more than an isolated incident”. If she has a history of off color humor, if he has incidents in her past where she has said some inconsiderate things, then that slip to me looks a lot worse. There hasnt been any of that, or at least hasnt come out yet, so im inclined to consider it an accident. We dont need to make things about racism when they arent, it completely devalues the word and hides true racism in plain sight.
Exactly. It’s a nothing burger, and even more than that, she has a logical explanation for her flub, but her explanation wasn’t good enough for some.
Piggy, who I consider a strong voice of reason on this board and I always consider his perspective with respect, called it a half-hearted apology. Why, she apologized for the hubbub her flub caused and she gave an explanation for it. She didn’t castrate herself or throw herself on the sword, so it’s considered a half hearted apology. IMO she shouldn’t have to do the rounds begging forgiveness, but this is where we are as a society.
Whenever some one says “I apologize for any confusion”
It’s a little half hearted
That makes it sound like it’s everyone’s else fault they heard it as a racial slur
Half hearted is probably a little harsh
I’m sure she regrets what was said/heard
I don’t think she has to do rounds begging forgiveness
But “You are confused” in what you heard vs I didn’t mean to demean anyone and I apologize it are two different things
That said – I don’t really blame her for not throwing herself on the sword given the amount of people ready with pitchforks our there
I can agree with this. She could have been more apologetic in that sense. i think she was being forthright in her apology, and she could have been more contrite.
Racist friggin’ ape! Coon tail, eh? lol
LOL, I’ve been taking sh*t for that one for a few weeks now.
Since when is Piggy the voice of reason here? 🤔
If that becomes a common perception, it may be time to start taking off my pants in public again
I can’t have people oinking that I’m reasonable!
I’ll just say that America has gotten a lot better about racism. A lot of you have met my wife. In the 15 years we’ve been together haven’t had one racist comment to our faces. Not even heard one after we passed walking down the street.
When I grew up at big family gatherings…. that same N word was thrown around more than a bit.
It was a word they all grew up with and there wasn’t any thought for the damage the word could do, because it was a common word that was used. We know now the effect the word has and due to this we have no excuse to continue to use it, but for them that was not the case, so in some ways i tend to forgive the old peeps for their use of it because by the time they knew otherwise, the brain had already settled into the use of it.
@D — good points. And I loved a lot of the folks throwing such words around, even if it hit me. Also noticed who in the group used them and who did not. Tended to be older and less educated. You go to the same big family event now….. nobody.

The way i take that sentence is “i apologize for what it seemed like, but it wasnt that it was an accident. If she doesnt say it like that it could be considered by some an admission of guilt. I think due to the case that she has stated it was accidental, saying that makes perfect sense.
Stanger, who is black? Your wife?
My wife is asian.
Stanger, I experienced that growing up as well but I’ve seen a lot of that nonsense die down over the years. That’s why it bothers me when some people act like racism is rampant when it’s not. That’s not to say it doesn’t exist but if you go back to the 70’s and before it’s night and day.
It’s all relative though. Any racism is bad. Have talked to some African American folks and said….. “look how it is now versus the 60’s.” And think I have a big old point on that, but then if it hits them now they have a serious point as well. Should be none.
It always surprises me when I see it out here, but it is still prevalent. We think we’re so advanced in that regard out here on the west coast, but i still see it everywhere.
I have a hard time even going out to eat with my wife’s mother. She’s very well off, entitled, and had what we would call a ‘hick’ upbringing. She thinks anyone not white is a problem and uses the n word and not in a ‘hey, what up homey’ kind of way.
We’ve literally had to tell her we won’t go anywhere public with her if she can’t keep that talk and those opinions to herself. And she honestly doesn’t understand our issue with it. What I find hard to reconcile is she is a pretty decent human being in every other regard. smh
You’re the first guy ever to have a problem with his mother in law before. 🙂
You obviously know more, but I (or my wife) would be real blunt. “We’re fine eating in” would be part of the convo.

This will be Miami’s 11th time hosting the SB. Guess which team has never played one in Miami 😁
Here’s to hoping they never do 🥂
Apparently there was an earthquake in Jamaica/Cuba today that people
felt in Downtown Miami
That’s not good
7.7 magnitude
I just saw that. With all the nonsense we deal with that’s about people in the world, sometimes we get reminded that we live on a volatile planet.
The quake was huge, but in the ocean. Tsunami watch in affect for Cuba and Jamaica.
Come on, people in Miami don’t know what an earthquake feels like.
Tsunamis are scary. Hey where did the ocean go? Run to the hills!!!
People on the East Coast in general don’t know what an earthquake feels like
I do. I’ve experienced it twice. Once in the 80’s while driving on 287 by the NJ/NY border where there is a major fault, my truck jumped up off the road. I later found out there was a small earthquake at the time. Then back in 2011 there was the Virginia earthquake that we felt in NJ. My office building shook and we evacuated. Standing in the parking lot I could feel the earth move under my feet. It kind of through off our equilibrium. It was weird. Nothing compared to what west coast peeps go through though.
Tim – I felt the one in 2011 but from what I hear that’s a fraction of a what of a legit earthquake feels like
There are folks out there that will say that I have no right to discuss this because I am white. They can have that opinion. I am still going to have my opinions.
Growing up we couldn’t say nigger. Dad would bust you in the mouth quicker than you could duck if he THOUGHT you said something that sounded close. Nigro was an “acceptable” term in school. Then it wasn’t. We were told to use the term “Colored” Then that was deemed offensive by some so I was told to use the term “blacks”. Then there was outcry and consternation over the use of “blacks” and we were forbidden to use that term and had to use “African American” even if they weren’t American and their family hadn’t been in Africa for generations. (WE ALL TRACE OUT LINEAGE BACK TO AFRICA BTW IF YOU GO BACK FAR ENOUGH) Then for whatever reason, perhaps because it was inaccurate we went back to “Blacks”
During this 40 year stretch I have continued to be “White” even though I am more “tan” but it is ok for everyone to call me white. It’s ok for someone to call me “Cracker” even though I have never driven cattle but I have to walk on eggshells to describe a person’s complexion.
the world has become too PC and we all dance to the song of the latest offended group.
Similar to the N word you could not use the word “queer” when referring to a homosexual. Now they have changed LGBT to LGBTQ to include queers. WTF!?
Amen!
Rock ill add to your statemets. Its been something i have been thinking about for a few years. This is a discussion about words and what they are and what they do and what power they have.
First thing up is, words and their meanings. The word orange for example, made to describe a color or a fruit, completely context drive with its meaning depending if you are talking about the aforementioned color or fruit. Lets say though a child raised outside of our society gets told thats a banana, he ist wrong, he just learned to associate the word differently.
Secondly, the power and intention of a word. Im going to avoid the sensitive nipples today and choose a different word than the N word, and ill preemptively apologize to Herd for what im about to say. Take the word cunt, for example, in some areas this isn’t a bad word, its more like a word said among friends, in other cultures its bad but it doesn’t have the female derogatory meaning that it has in ours. Cant have one word having several meanings if individual people cant choose how to take it. Its actually the same for the N word, because in african cultures the word means “giver”.
So really the person who gives power to a word is the person hearing it. I could stand in the middle of a room and yell cunt, direct it to no one but everyone think im an asshole for saying it. Everyone would get upset. I have also simultaneous gained control over everyone who is affected by me doing that, because obviously if i did that, i did it with the purpose of pissing people off. People use it to gain control of an argument with a woman too, to cut to her core.
Now think about the word Cracker, Honkey, etc. Made to be the same type of slur as the N word or cunt. How much effect has it ever really had? Know why? Because no one gave it any power. Its doesnt affect me, not because its not a slur, not because it didn’t have the intention of stricking at me, cutting to my core, but because I didn’t give it power.
Now im not saying people should be able to use the word, i think its ugly to do that with the intention of hurting someone else, but really if any group wants to get past being controlled by those words, they gotta take the power from them. Its a fucking word, it shouldn’t control people in that way, and i guarantee if people want the word to truly go away, they should start with the only thing they can control about its use, their reaction to it.
many people ditch or badmouth PC ,
it means they are annoyed others expect equal rights, how dare they?
Social engineering trying desperately to create a faux utopia. One thing I’ve learned living in America is the melting pot is not easy. But it can also be beautiful at times.
After 9-11 you got to see a span of time where the good showed through, but its riding hard in the other direction and i dont think you can put this on one administration and this definitely hasn’t happened in just 3 years. Id say in the past two administrations it had gotten increasingly worse, ball got rolling in the wrong direction and neither of the past two presidencies have done anything but got it rolling faster. Its really been done for political gain, divide and conquer.
i can put it on this administration for sure, its very easy based on his resume

Ill be honest, with the way things are going i wouldn’t care a whole lot if mother nature pushed the reset button on us. We are way to stupid and crazy to deserve to live here.
LMAO!!!!
i suppose it could depend on the area, but racism has gotten worse over the last 3 years around here.
its obvious why, and hopefully that situation remedies itself soon
Racism is reveling in the mud of ignorance IMO
just wanted to say its very tragic what happened with Kobe , his daughter and some friends crashing in the fog.
its incredible , and not in a good way, Kobe would want to chance his 13 year old daughters safety by insisting on flying in the fog.
he could have made the decision to play it safe and get a limo to the game for everyone.
now Vanessa has to cope with the loss of both of them, SMH,

————————————————-
Bad thing is, Florida has no hills lol. Tsumani would run from one shore to the other. Tsunamis are terrifying. I have seen videos of them and its like watching a train blow through a barricade and keep running into a shopping mall and then into a business behind that mall, and then through a busy highway past that all while looking slow, but not slowing down.
Still to me, earthquake is the scariest natural event i can think of. No real warning to predict it, once its starts you can only ride it out. I have felt a tremor or two but i have no desire to feel a real one.
“What do you make of a society that is so primitive that it clings to the belief that certain words in its language are so powerful that they could corrupt you the moment you hear them?” – Frank Zappa
the corruption is from the speaker , not the victim, just sayin’
That’s not the point of his statement. You know the saying, sticks and stones make break my bones, but names will never hurt me. That’s what he’s talking about.
true, and quite easy for him to say
We were taught that the N word was so low class that it was even worse to say out loud than the F word. And I’m from Charleston SC. The only people who used the N word when I was growing up were “red necks” and “hicks” or sometimes “good ol’ boys” … as its use was considered a marker.
I never once heard any other slang for an ethnic group, except in a few junky jokes, like “Polack” jokes.
I never heard stuff like “spic” or “wop” till the “All in the Family” TV show with Archie Bunker using them.
That’s because “spic” or “wop” was due to the melting pot in NE cities. There were Italian, Irish, Puerto Rican, Black and Jewish communities all living within blocks of each other. That was phase I of the melting pot.
some people on the east coast have experienced earthquakes elsewhere, lol,
very unlucky travelers, lol
i was in one in 2006 in Shenyang
David, if politicians are the key to our social behavior we’re fucking doomed.
true, but that is what happenned, too many people are angry we had a black president, and now are happy with the exact opposite,
someone who encourages white supremacy to Make up for the mistake of 8 years of a dark skinned man as their leader
True that! On either side of the aisle, just so that’s clear . . .
People be People.
Judge them every day, but skin color has little to do with it.
lmao, I can tell You have never been to Polk county, its ok , You havent missed much in this backward racist county
If I was in Polk County would do the same. Just how I roll.
lol, Im sure You would be You, no doubt
this area is loaded with a bunch of 80 year old farmers who dont tike kindly to dark strangers
the new people moving in are not like that, they are a tad more progressive, lol
We have earthquakes in Charleston. I’ve felt them. Buildings there were traditionally built with rods running through the floor joists between floors with usually decorative catheads on the outside walls to hold the houses together. I don’t know what New codes require. Here are some pics of those:

lmao, exactly
D, I agree with your 9/11 statement. The way so many Americans rallied together was a small example of what earthlings would have to do if we faced an alien adversary. But as you said earlier, we’re too fuckin stupid to realize that on a large scale. 😦 LOL
I was in Monterrey the San Francisco quake hit. Used to drive the section of 880 that collapsed weekly.
SBJ…because PC has anything to do with equal rights.
i didnt think You would understand victims rights, SMH
i live in Polk County, most racist county in FL, lol
i HEAR what the racists say, even if i dont like it, I hear it
Seems two different subjects, but on the PC street have always gone “why offend?” Unless i ‘m sitting down for a beer with someone of course when tend to go too far in the other direction. 🙂
i agree with that Stanger,
btw, the reason some folks like to offend is because they feel threatened, and this is their backlash
afraid of the mexican rapists, caravans taking their jobs, etc etc
but i see Mexicans picking FL oranges right now, they are not taking others jobs, they are picking oranges, and no one else wants to do it
if it were not for the Mexicans, the oranges would fall to the ground and rot
Charleston historically is one of the most ethnically heterogeneous cities in America (I think.).
Half the population has always been black.
There is a huge Irish Catholic part of the population. Methodism was there since colonial times as well.
Many French Protestants, called Hugenots in Charleston, came there to escape persecution from French Catholics.after the St Batholomews Day massacre.
We had a large and vibrant Italian community (a landmark, LaBrasca’s restaurant was owned by a real Italian family from the old country.)
The city is the birthplace of Reform Judaism with the oldest synogogue of that type in America, Temple Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim, a beautiful place:
