Xavien Howard at Left Cornerback, Byron Jones at Right Cornerback. Bobby McCain at Free Safety and Eric Rowe at Strong Safety. I believe this is our best secondary in a long time. Both Howard and Jones can be lockdown corners. Howard has the INT’s but Jones is regarded as one of the top cover corners in the NFL and shuts down the receivers he’s on. A healthy Bobby McCain this season will be better than he was last year struggling with a shoulder injury. Eric Rowe who has played a lot of different positions much like McCain, really seemed to find himself at Strong Safety. I thought he played his best ball there and his elite athleticism is a big plus at safety.
We drafted another CB who will likely be our slot and nickel corner in RD1 pick #30, Noah Igbinoghene (Iggy Mahogany). Those 5 guys in addition to up and comers like Nik Needham, Stevie Parker, Ken Webster and Ryan Lewis makes our depth legitimate. At safety we have 3 young vets who provide nice depth in Clay Fejedelem, Adrian Colbert and Kavon Frazier and a very promising rookie who may end up rising to the top of the depth chart before long in Brandon Jones. Add in a CB who at one time seemed like a potential starter in Cordrea Tankersley. Tank started 11 games in 2017 replacing Byron Maxwell who we picked up from Philly. Tank definitely showed promise in 2017 but suffered a season ending ACL injury in 2018. He was placed on the PUP in 2019 while recovering but couldn’t make it back last year. This is Tank’s final year on his contract so I expect he will be looking to crack the lineup to get himself another contract next year either here or elsewhere.
Having two shutdown corners should make a huge difference for our defense. We all know we’ve struggled to get to the QB the last few years but the additions we made this offseason in both free agency (Kyle Van Noy, ShaqLawson, Emmanuel Ogbah) as well as in the draft (Raekwon Davis, Curtis Weaver, Jason Strowbridge) will give us a lot more juice in the pass rush department. Pairing that potentially dominant secondary with an upgraded pass rush could yield excellent results from our defense. I don’t about all of you people here, I’m really looking forward to seeing this defense grow this year!
GO DOLPHINS!!

Oh my, first? Drinking a cranberry mimosa, and not my first
Nice Mike E. Not sure how it will all shake out, but there is a plan and depth.
Can never have too many DBs…..
Maybe Greir gets Gase’s tweets. 🙂
This might be for now, but 2021 is when we will get to see, imo.
Mike E — reason for excitement about that back 5 , which think is what we’ll see almost all the time ‘cept for short yardage. Best unit on the team by far. Who said you have to build through the trenches. 🙂
I think it takes both. I was just about to make the comment that pressure is just as important. We haven’t had either for years.
So we shall see.
You want every player on the team to be All Pro, but that’s never gonna happen. We put our money in the secondary, especially the corners. We’ll see.
No I don’t. Just a team that is well rounded.
It’s been a patchwork for years….is this even debatable?
Krishna — I think they are rebuilding as best they can. Do think that well-rounded team is what they have an eye on down the road, but not like here yet….. especially with that young group of kids on the OL and the QB situation. Interesting that the big money player was Byron Jones though.
Agreed.
The last paragraph of the article to me was….I hope so.
Mike, you da man!! Thanks for posting the new article and sparing us the grief of dealing with all the issues following Friday Night.
Leading up to the draft and after I said Tua’s arm was weak. It was just a backlash against those that said he had a strong arm. Well, it’s not strong and it’s not weak, but it may be the best I’ve seen other than Mahomes, all things considered.
Take the LSU game this year, playing on a bad ankle he put up 41 pts, with 2 dropped Juedy TDs. It was obvious he wasn’t himself in that game, yet he almost beat the eventual Champs on what might’ve been the best college team ever.
I think Mahomes does some things others haven’t, but I think Tua does every thing else better or at least as good, including quicker release, better accuracy, better looking off the receiver.
Back to the arm, it isn’t as strong as some others, but most would never know it by watching him throw. Combining arm strength and accuracy I’d rank him at the top of the list.
Wit Tua there’s been no BS on the field, like what was he thinking there, or he needs to get his head in the game. It’s been 100 miles an hour all the time. A coaches dream.
Also his progressions are second to none.
And his focus. He’s like the Bobby that never blinks.
Especially when you have time…..hope he can process 10x what he did at Alabama. He needs to.
And his vision. Every video I watch of him something else pops out.
They said he learned an NFL playbook before the draft. He’s 100% committed and football smart.
Again not real high on McCain, but I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt Mike. Not really that big of a deal how he plays, since the other 4 including nickel are very good, and we have several others to replace him with.
I think when someone isn’t getting it done on the back 5 this year he’ll stick out like a sore thumb, because the rest should be real good.
If he’s not playing well he won’t be playing, it’s as simple as that. We have far too many guys to let one suck it up and be a weak link. I just think Bobby Mac is a better player than anyone is giving him credit for. More time at safety and being healthy will tell the real story.
^^
I think we will see a much better Bobby Mac this season. It was a brand new defense that was getting scorched in all facets. Once the D started to gel mid way through the season he try’s to play with an injured shoulder until getting shut down for the season. Safety is not new to him. He played some there at Memphis. I think it was more everyone learning the new defense then he got hurt. Bobby Mac is not fast but is quick. That is why he was good in the slot. The knock on him coming out was his lack of speed but his football smarts and leaves everything he has on the field is what sets him apart.
Fast enough for safety.
Bobby Mac ran a 4.51 forty but his 3.82 20 YD shuttle is elite acceleration. That’s getting up to speed very quickly.
His 20 YD shuttle time was in the top 1% across the NFL for all defensive backs in the 2015 draft which included Trae Waynes, Kevin Johnson, Byron Jones, Damarious Randle, Jalen Colins, Eric Rowe, Landon Collins and Ronald Darby
Aiight Mike, good call on McCain. I went back and watched the first half against Dal last year, before he hurt his shoulder and he looked a lot better than he did after the injury.
He’s by no means a great safety, but he’ll do until someone distances themselves from the others, including McCain getting better. He seems pretty good as a center fielder already, needs to improve on tackling.
He will always be a player where there will be a guy come along with better athletic ability to beat him out. The dudes heart and team first attitude is what will keep him around in some fashion.
There’s gotta to more to it than that considering his contract.
AT @ 2:17 PM, YOUNG STANGER SAID “who said you have to build through the trenches?”–That be ME, my friend. For the first decade of the Steve Ross Era, this team has suffered thru the reality of an O-Line that ranged from average to terrible. And the D-Line was nothing to crow about, either, even when we had SUH.
NOW, FINALLY, I believe management has gotten SERIOUS about drafting and developing one of the best O-Lines in the league. Did they pick the right guys? Only time will tell. But, at least THIS YEAR, enough high draft picks were used to get the job done, so there’s reason for optimism. As for the D-Line, I’d STILL have to say it is a work in progress. But, perhaps, we’ve struck gold there, too!
THREE AREAS seem especially strong at this point. Our stable of receivers is STRONG! And our top 2 QB’s range from very good to possibly sensational!!!! And, as Mike E. has just pointed out with yet ANOTHER terrific column, our secondary may be ELITE THIS SEASON!!!
THAT SAID, another shaky performance in the trenches this season will doom our guys to failure.–But, especially on offense, I believe enough of these new guys will step up and perform at a high level to the point that Miami will be a TRUE PLAYOFF CONTENDER THIS SEASON!!!
We’ve made real progress (I HOPE) “in the trenches!”
I was quipping….. but there is no doubt the secondary is our strongest unit. What do have is a lot of raw big guys who can develop into something. Not gonna be as good as the secondary this year though.
OD, I will always agree with you about the lines!
It starts there….
Usually the rest don’t, but he’s been spot on. I hope he still is.
Can’t say enough about Tua, but I want to give Dilfer some credit for the job he’s done with him, from Elite11 to before the draft.
Tua hasn’t done anything? I’m so confused.
Good write, Mike! Like I said not long ago about our secondary, if this group isn’t top notch I’m not sure what else we could do to have a top secondary.
We could invest in a very good safety.
Our CBs are elite safeties aren’t. Together the secondary will go as far as the CBs take them, but you don’t have to be great at safety, the robin position, (if you have great CBs) to have a top secondary.
I think we did in drafting Brandon Jones.
If Jones is the one that elevates to the top of the depth chart, that would be great, contract aside, because it gives the D 2 guys that can switch back and forth FS/SS.
Covid test comes back next Tuesday (hopefully). Little troubling that the wife has been sick for 4 days. Not major stuff…..but still sick. Some of the symptoms match up but the list of them is like a Cheesesteak Factory menu.
We went thru that in April, but her test came back that she only had one part if it, the virus and not the disease. The rest of us were asymptomatic.
She’s been fine since she got the results.
Hoping she’s just got something like a lot of people get. She was exposed though. Only reason she learned she was cause she is social media friends with the girl who does her nails. Don’t think we ever would have learned otherwise.
Our best to your better half Stanger! Hope M feels better!
I figure if she treats a virus like she does me….. the virus will be scared shitless. : )
LOL!
Kyle Crabbs has a positional ranking, with top 3 on D, then RB, QB, ST, TE before WR. WTF
Nice write Mike E. I think our D will be much better than people think !! 😎👍
It can’t be better than I think. I see top 10 and better, if they can put it together.
If Jones and Howard can lockdown the outside, this D could be great. It would allow us to run the ball and control the clock, and release all the packages on D, that keep the O off balance.
If we’re a top 10 defense I will be crazy happy. That would be a massive improvement
I think we’ll be fine at safety. We have to have a better pass rush and I think we will. I don’t care who you have out there in coverage, if you can’t pressure the QB nobody can cover someone all day. Flores knows this so he targeted pass rush and quality cover guys. Close the gap.
Last year we saw nobody was open after a few seconds and the QB had time to keep the play alive and then find someone coming open or run for positive gain. If we had a better pass rush our defense would have been off the field more often.
But last year was a bunch of street players, just scrapping to survive.
Hard to believe the current D will take longer, than last years D, to put it together. It was really amazing to see how the scheme made up for the lack of talent.
That’s what I’m saying. We have way more talent this year on defense than last year.
He is a very quarterback-friendly receiver can get high points is a big target has speed runs good routes his hands aren’t as good as I expected coming out of college. I was real high on him as a draft pick for us and injuries have really slowed him down. Still I think he will be a great receiver for us especially helping to acclimate to the NFL
As far as a thousand yard receiver I don’t think it matters but I do think he can top of thousand. I don’t think he’ll be a 1500 yard plus receiver or at least I hope he’s not because I’m hoping we’re spreading the ball around a little more than that
I think gesicki can take a lot of yards off of him this year
It’s going to be hard, unless Preston gets hurt or isn’t back to last season form the first 6 weeks, but in his favor is all 3 QBs play to his strengths. Who knows maybe both Devante and Preston top 1000.
I’d prefer guys make the play play when thrown to, with several receivers excelling, don’t really care about individual stats.
Just win, it’s not about individual #s.
I don’t care about individual stats, team stats are more important.
So many are very doubtful the NFL season even happens. I don’t agree. I think the NFL will do anything and everything to make it happen. Too much money to be lost.
^
The NFL didn’t get where they are by being weak, they know BS, when they see it.
6 billion reasons why we have football this year.
Mike E — thinking the games will be played, but figuring on TV is the key part. Think threw it out before….. but I could see the NFL go hub/bubble like the NBA and play games all through the week. 32 teams…… you pretty much only need 6 fields. And if no fans…. you could set them up in the middle of a corn field like Field of Dreams.
But don’t let this hype fool you, Jones has some flaws in his game, specifically when the ball is in the air. From what I have seen his mirror technique requires work, he’s not smooth on his hips and doesn’t have the recognition or pattern development to keep up with wide receivers. He will have to depend on over the top help.
Fansided
Am I wrong to say a FS doesn’t get help over the top?
NFL rookies to report on Tues, but ours may have to wait until Thurs. and take a covid test upon arrival.
Who’s running this retarded ship?
If you want them to report, then take a test and someone tests positive they lose at least 2 weeks. Why not get them tested 2 weeks before reporting, then quarantine them?
Whatever we are doing — players have to be bubbled. That won’t be tough in camp….. but will after.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29494812/players-blitz-nfl-tweets-safe-return
It’s going to get interesting if there is a concerted effort by the players, and a majority do not show up to training camp.
I actually think it benefits the Fins starting a couple of days later. We can be forewarned and act accordingly.
Whatever happens think gonna be tough to get this season going. If anything wish they had some Plan B safety option upfront.
I have to agree with the players on this topic. While COVID is almost zero risk for a majority of players and their families, people with high BMI and obesity issues are a higher risk population. That means many of the really big linemen are at an increased risk from this. I have the exact opposite stance for most NBA players but there is a risk here.
I think with the extent of confusion, fearmongering, and the undeniable actual results of this disease’s potency, it will be very hard to maintain the full season. We have one political party that is saying it’s too dangerous to prepare and spend a day out voting, but these players can be put at extended risk for five months with no problems? I don’t see that at this point.
https://larrybrownsports.com/football/byron-jones-idea-nfl-tweetstorm/559310
I am pretty ambivalent about this virus, the risks, and the US response. I’m not sure what I believe anymore. I have recently found myself arguing both sides of the issue with people close to me depending on what side they present. That is likely just my contrary nature though, lol.
Biggest health crisis in my lifetime at least. Only Q is what to do about it.
After our vacation to the Catskills with our big group, my son and one of his friends have fevers and don’t feel well. Not sure what his friend had but my son had 102. He’s going to take a COVID test ASAP
I hope both your son and his friend are okay.
^
Sucks. And time for some worries. Get that test but keep in mind people got sick with a bunch of things before there was Covid.
Anyone else feel when trying to bridge gaps between people as we continue to divide each other, and along with this virus, that it’s mentally exhausting? There is such a level of sadness on so many levels.
It forms more in anger for me! 😦
Some days it’s anger and some days sadness, and I consider myself a very positive person. It is very exhausting.
Yes Tim, I do. I think people now are thinking in such absolutes that any compromise being made will never be enough. I don’t know where this started but the divide is definitely growing larger and wider.
I can’t believe what people are so divided about. It’s as if common sense was killed by the Covid and now it’s not there for anything. 😦
😉
My son and I are getting tested this afternoon. Hoping for the best!
Good luck Mike, hoping the best for you and your son!
Thanks pal – One of the women from our group had a good point. With all this mask wearing we’re not used to germs and it could just be a virus, not COVID. We’ll find out soon enough
Staying at home and wearing masks out . . .
Might want to consider taking 2 cars if he is well enough to drive.
What is really pissing me off, and will get someone’s ass beaten here very shortly if it doesn’t stop, is the anger expressed at ME for wearing a mask.
I AM NOT WEARING THIS MASK FOR ME. I AM WEARING IT FOR YOU AND YOUR AT RISK FAMILY MEMBERS!
The next mother fucker that gets in my face about wearing it is going to get themselves knocked the fuck out.
I went out to eat last night. The restaurant has a mask requirement. (To enter and be seated, then you can take it off. If you get up to use the bathroom the request you put it back on)
I was leaving afterward and had to squeeze past the “family” group that was waiting to be seated. I said, excuse me, can you let me through please. The one guy (not wearing a mask and arguing with the hostess about it) turns to me and says “there is plenty of room you moron. What are you afraid you are going to catch the plague? baaaaaa baaaaaa fuckiing sheep.”
I let it lay and squeezed through. But I stewed about it all night.
The next asshole will feel it. I am done with niceties towards fucking retards.
Some people are assholes, they can’t help it
Screwy part is that it the assholes act like they are the ones suffering by having to wear a mask or social distance while they are the ones getting the rest of us sick.
I wasn’t in your way, you had plenty of room!
Trying to find news on the chiefs and Texans camps which were supposed to start today. For the Chiefs, it looks like today is just a COVID test.
“The first day is literally just a COVID-19 test. They take the test, they go home,” Pelissero said on Good Morning Football. “They come back to the building on Tuesday, take another COVID-19 test. If they get two negatives (tests) in a row, only then can they move on to other things, be in the building, take their physical and move into team activities.”
Monday, July 20: COVID-19 testing Day 1.
Tuesday, July 21: COVID-19 testing Day 2.
Wednesday, July 22: Physicals / Equipment Fitting.
Thursday, July 23: ???
Saturday, July 25: Veteran report day for Chiefs/Texans only.
Breida, has been clocked with the NFL’s fastest speed (22.3 miles per hour in 2019 and 22.03 in 2018)
orlando sentinel
I was so excited when we picked him up for a 5th. Being in Ninerland, I’ve watched him play since he joined the team in 2017. He is dynamic, and will pair nicely with Howard. If these two can stay healthy (big if), our backfield could be one of the best in the league.
The only reason the Niners let him go was because they are loaded at RB and he is on the last year of his contract. They picked up some draft capital for him when they could. Although with Mostart now being unhappy and requesting a trade, they may now wish they had kept Breida, lol.
We gonna be doing Thunder and Lightening?
Howard, who measures in at 6 foot, 225 pounds, is respected league wide as a powerful zone-runner who has grinded out 4.3 yards per carry throughout his four-year career by reading his blocks effectively.
orlando sentinel
The last time the Dolphins had a 400-plus carry season was in 2016, when Jay Ajayi served as Miami’s lead back
even then, only 260 of them were from Ajayi. (the next was Tannehill with 39 carries)
OD,
Lightning and Blues at the top of the list of teams that will be impacted the most by the hard cap situation. I know I’m worried what we’ll have to give up to keep Pietrangelo.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nhl/nhl-power-rankings-teams-hit-hardest-by-flat-dollar815m-salary-cap/ar-BB16Yvmb
Good article. It’s interesting to read his take on what happened in the game against the Jest where he ‘quit’. I was always a big Jones fan, and the way he acted that game (or the way it was portrayed), really irked me.
I am curious about this – from the article Jones says:
“The next year I came back and picked Tom Brady off with one hand and scored a touchdown from 50 yards.”
Does anyone remember Jones having a pick 6 on Brady? I tried looking it up but can’t find corroboration. I thought last year in Brady’s week 17 pick 6 against us that was his first pick 6 against the Fins.
the pick was in his second year as I understood it?
Wife was negative for Covid. She’s got something but not that.
Hope in a few days we say the same about Mike E and his clan.
👍
Good deal.
Glad to hear Stanger! Hope MA feels better quickly!
Good news, Stang.
Thanks guys…. Mike E is the one on the Covid radar now.
Still don’t know anyone that knows anyone that got it 🤷♂️
Chef Warren’s father-in-law died from it. Not like I knew him but was real tough for his wife.
Damn that sucks
Sorry to hear, Stanger.
My son tested positive. He took the rapid test. They said it’s more accurate to take the one they send to the lab and because I didn’t have a fever, that’s what they did for me. They did say if Brian tests positive then I’m presumed to be positive as well. We’ll find out in about 3-4 days.
Positive vibes being sent your way from across the country
Errr, that was genuine, not trying to make light with the ‘positive’ thing. I don’t pray, so I always say positive vibes.
That frick’n sucks. Why you have to throw a wet towel on our good news? 🙂
Hope your son has a mild ride on it and that “presume” is what makes an ass out of people at times in your case…… and thinking they do that to get you to isolate.
Son A friend of ours had it way back in march. Couldn’t find out for sure until they came out with the antibody test.
She just had light Flu-like symptoms for 3 days!
Said she lost her sense of smell and taste for a couple of weeks though?????
That’s interesting I haven’t heard of the loss of senses good thing they came back
That suck’s Mike E!
Mike, all the best to your boy and the rest of your family and yourself. Hope it passes through quickly.
Stanger, good to hear about your wife.
Mike, sorry to hear about your son and hope he recovers quickly, and hopefully you’re negative.
This fucking virus really sucks!!!!
I think we’ll be fine. I have a very good outlook on this thing. The hospitals know how to handle it now, and I don’t even expect any of us to need one. We’ll rest it (ride it) out and we’ll be fine.
Thanks all for the good wishes!
💪
Iggy Mahogany signed his contract, Hunt is the only remaining unsigned
What’s the hangup with Hunt?
MikeE : pass our thoughts on to Brian , and hope you get a pass as well
Stanger good to hear your negative news….
On a related level , MetLife announced they will not have fans all season , and Ontario tells Blue Jays no home games until further notice, Likley not until playoffs if they make it that far.
Fingers crossed on Hockey startup end of next week.
Thanks Toba and good to see you. Keep in mind that Canadian Covid restrictions don’t apply to internet travel. 🙂
Lol. Just been busy with work and don’t remember login so can’t post from work .. I still read daily. Just late usually
MIKE E: I hope for a speedy recovery for your son. And, if it comes to that, a speedy recovery also for you and anyone else in your family who has this evil virus.
YOUNG STANGER: GREAT NEWS on your wife!!
——————————————-
ROCKPHIN: SO SORRY you had to put up with the idiot(s) at the restaurant. ROCK, you are REALLY A GOOD MAN. DON’T throw away part of your life on some other dumb ass. Just take names, addresses and license plates. REVENGE 5-6-7 years later DOES HAPPEN!! HOPE we can talk about it at the Fest.
Speaking of the Fest, is there a way we can get together and watch a game this season at a neutral site??? I’m afraid ALL of Miami’s home games WILL BE FANLESS, just as the Jets, Giants and Rutgers games will all be held without fans, per ESPN.
——————————————
I’ll be getting up about 5:40 AM in order for me to make an extremities scan over my entire body very early in the morning. It will be at Moffitt Cancer Hospital here in Tampa. About an hour or so after the test, my surgeon will meet with me to discuss the results. Gotta walk the dog an get some sleep. Y’all know I’m a FIGHTER, no matter the result. NOT gonna be intimidated by ANY TEST!
—————————————–
PEACE to all of you good people!!
Thanks OD! You are wise. Letting my temper out has always cost me time or money, or both. I have spent enough time in the cooler for D&D and fighting for a lifetime.
I’m not sure about how good a man I am, but I do actively try to go against my baser instincts, so I guess there is that. LOL
Does my wanting to kill someone by slow vicious torture make me evil, or does it only count if I follow through with it?
The new fest is in Ocala at the Winghouse
tee off 7am @ Ocala golf club, be at the winghouse at 12;30 for a 1pm game
No preseason games
https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-offers-nflpa-zero-preseason-games
Damn… FMagic is gonna get killed… Then Rosen… Then Tua… We might be down to our fourth QB by week 3. Damn this virus… No preseason!
Mike awesome article as always! And you are so right about the treatment being so much better now than before. And God Bless to you and those close to you. Faith.
Thanks Toba, OD and Days for the well wishes!
When do you get test results back?
About 3 days, but sometimes the labs get backed up and it takes longer.
DeVante Parker will be on GMFB on NFLN in a minute or so. Looking forward to seeing that
Mike, you really don’t have to worry about Covid. What the doctors are referring to is, since your son has it, you’ve been exposed to it, but are likely asymptomatic.
Same thing happened to us in April, but she only had part of it. I was the only one going out, so I gave it to her, but was asymptomatic as was our son.
I’m really not worried about it. At least not at this point.
DeVante is a much better WR than interviewee. He looked painfully uncomfortable, but that’s not really important in the least.
Shows hes not a diva receiva
https://twitter.com/ChauxDown/status/1285339722613698563?s=20
I do love the way this secondary looks on paper. Nice write up Mike E
Best wishes to your son Mike E
Thanks on both counts. I have a feeling we all might get it, we were all on top of each other on vacation this week. We took the risks, now we might have to pay for it.
It is hard. You want to be safe but you cannot live in a bubble either
We do this vacation in the Catskills with a big group every year. We played a ton of volleyball, cornhole, quoits and spikeball. We knew the risks, and we didn’t wear masks while doing it. I would do it like that again to be honest, because if you’re going to go, you want to enjoy it.
“”I think I had an amazing run. I had a great career. Really, I think I had Hall of Fame numbers. You go look at me, Troy Polamalu, Brian Dawkins … I really had Hall of Fame numbers, just wasn’t on a Hall of Fame team. We just couldn’t put the games together. But I had an amazing career.”
————————
Those sure do sound like retirement words from Reshad. He claims he couldn’t get a surgery done he needed to to play this year cause of Covid…. but find that hard to believe except for maybe at the one place he was gonna get it done. Still only 32 though and he didn’t make it official.
There was a retired player talking on my local sports radio the other day. He said players have always tried to get out of PS games….mostly because the players don’t make much money for it. He thinks players are doing everything they can to nix the PS and are using COVID as a way to get out of playing them. He pointed out that lots of them are already getting together in large groups to practice but yet complaining about getting together for PS.
I can guarantee you it’s not the 3rd and 4th teamers who don’t want the preseason. It’s their opportunity to show something and make the roster. Guys who are already safe on the roster don’t want to play, and understandably so.
Hey ALL, hope ALL are well !!!
WUA did the FINS draft #1 ???

MLB, NBA, NHL setbacks trying to get their wasted seasons in is likely to setback NFL
Just call it a day MLB, NBA, NHL
GIVE THE NFL THEIR CHANCE FOR A REAL SEASON!!
GOFINS!!!
GoodStuffff Mike!!!
LOVE our DBField !!!
I refer to Iggy simply as NOAH
Read today that RJones is retiring, L8’s 20
LOVE the new 20 BREIDA
was somewhat bummed bout not getting a RB draftee till we scooped up BREIDA 🚀🏎🏁
GO🐬
Breida is one of my favorite off season moves
The way it went down was reminiscent of a Patriots move. We’re moving through rounds of the draft and us fans wondering why the heck we hadn’t picked up another RB. Our backfield looking thin with Howard being the only bonafide starter, then boom, out of nowhere, trade for Breida. Loved it.
💯Cav & Ken
Kong – I was getting so mad we didn’t take a RB and then that trade saved the day
Yep, it was frustrating they seemed to be ignoring the position. The need was so obvious, but our FO clearly knew what they were doing. That is why I say it reminded me of a Pets move. We had a plan, and the masses had no inkling of it until it happened. Fingers crossed Howard and Breida can stay healthy.
I dont blame the players about PS. I dont really know how much the 4th and 5th rotation guy gain much from the game either. The PS is not usually pairing them against the best so what ya see doesn’t really set the reason to keep or cut them. 90% of that decision has been made before the games. There might be some bubble guys who get flipped in or out because of it, but all in all, its not going to impact them a whole lot.
I also think they have a legit complaint about the risk they are being put under for the sake of a season. I want football bad, but i think an opt out would be a good option. They dont acrue a year in their contract, they get paid only thier bonuses, so it will hurt them, and likely get most of them to opt in, but those really concerned for their families should have that option. There will be plenty of players who are ok playing and taking the risk to dress a team. If they are going to do this, however, they need to do it before PS, so that coaches can make their decisions on who they keep based on who opted out and which holes they will need to fill.
The game already isnt safe and with covid that is just another unsafe condition for them. Still i mean you get paid for playing, so they cant have it both ways. They will have to sacrifice some, if not most of their pay to sit it out, but that option should be available to them and they shouldnt be fined or cut because of it.
I think Dayz makes a great point. With no preaseon games, Fitz is our guaranteed day one starter now, forget about starting Tua with a new oline that doesn’t have practice games under their belt to gel.
I wouldnt have anyways, i mean i get the best man starts, but i think its better to give him a little more time to acclimate before throwing him in there.
My feeling was have him ready by bye week and let him finish out the season.
Yeah, I hear ya, we all have our own ideas about it, but if Tua is truly healthy and he lights up the preseason, I think the coaches play him. With no preseason games, zero chance that happens now because you don’t get a real chance to evaluate him and the line in game situations. Practice just isn’t enough.
I think it was always the plan to have Fitz start PS or no PS
Yeah, like I said, we all have our own ideas, but this guarantees that Fitz starts day 1.
Ken, I don’t think the coaches go into it with the mindset “this is definitely going to happen”. They go into training camp and preseason to evaluate. If Tua has a clean bill of healthy, our line is playing good, and he lights it up and looks better than Fitz, I think the coaches play him. Why wouldn’t they? It’s what you drafted him for.
If there are questions about his health, he doesn’t outplay Fitz, or maybe even questions about the oline, then it’s a no-brainer you start Fitz.
But my real point is that with no games this debate is moot, because you can’t evaluate game readiness without the preseason games.
It was the plan, but then if Tua started blowing it up could have changed. With the injury maybe good that is no longer possible.
I think it is a big problem, not having a preseason. With the CBA and the restrictions on live hitting in practice the O and D lines don’t get enough real practice as it is now. Take away the preseason and they will have even less. We will see shit blocking and missed tackles the first half of the season.
Even more reason to start Fitz over Tua to start the season.
I don’t want to be a debbie downer, but getting rid of the preseason games is just another step in rolling it back. First rookie camp, then OTAs , then the first two PS games and now the other two. And guess can’t blame them for not making moves until they have too.
Good news is that seems yes they will be going to camp.
My biggest concern with no preseason games, other than the issues Rock mentions above, is now if you have positive covid tests after a game, your implementing strategies into action mid-season with no trail and error process. If things don’t go smoothly, then who knows what happens.
Of course, even with preseason games, I guess there is no guarantee anyone tests positive before the season starts, and then you’re in the same boat anyway.
I’m wondering how this will impact all those guys looking to make the squad. You cut from 90 to 53 and all you see is intrasquad games? Gonna be tough on them. And even if they are doing live contests….. aren’t both sides playing the Dolphins D and O? Not quite the same.
Of topic, lol, but I hate it when I catch a ‘your’ instead of a ‘you’re’ in my posts. Or any of the other common errors of that type.
or ‘of’ instead of ‘off’ – sheesh
I know it doesn’t matter as long as the point gets across, but it still irks me. lol
There’s not going to be any positive tests after games. These guys will be tested every day. They won’t be going into games with someone that’s positive.
The problem in the real world is you can’t test everyone every day.
Apes don’t know grammar or spelling.
Lol, all we know is we like blondes and hate Curtiss F8C Helldivers. We are simple creatures.
Steve,
You may be proven right. I certainly hope so. I had previously read they were looking at testing twice a week, but that has changed. It’s a very fluid situation, so it will likely continue to change and be adapted as we move forward. In the article below they are talking 24 hours before the NFL will get results back though, so players will likely have to be isolated at least 24 hours before a game, which is doable.
They can socially distance and mask up for film study, and if they test 24 hours and isolate before any game, maybe they will be able to keep it under control. I’m not sure they will be able to isolate 24 hours before every practice though, so there is still the possibility of teams spreading it internally.
In regards to testing, if you figure 100 players, coaches, staff, and trainers per team, testing everyday for 6 months is over half a million tests. But if anyone has the resources to do it, it’s the NFL, so hopefully they can make this work.

Cut down’s coming early!!!!!!
No Pre-season to prove yourself!!!
Yeah but everyone is in the same boat.
You could say that, but less established teams are definately at a disadvantage.
To a degree but all teams need their work. You could say that about less established teams in any given year.
I think they’re going to expand the practice squad and also allow teams to protect more players.
I read somewhere they will be testing everyday. At some point, cant remember, they will go to every other day as long as they stay below 5%. If they don’t, they go back to testing everyday.
training camp rosters will be capped at 80 instead of 90, currently 96 reside on Miami’s roster, 16 cuts will have to be made early.
anyone good at math?

equals?
Ho from ho leaves hoho, hoho from hoho leaves 50 (Little Rascals😉).
greatest miami qb…..marino or griese?
Both had the same coach,
Marino certainly had a great skill level.
Griese was more than adequate for the job.
Greise has 2 rings?
do the rings tip the scales?
Yes, but not that far. Greise was a game manager with some skills. His intangibles were off the chart, but a pure dropback passer he was not.
Marino was the greatest QB all time, therefore the greatest Miami QB of all time.
Yesterday we were 20.7M under the cap, today 19.4M. Iggy’s cap hit is roughly 2.05M, so why didn’t it go down to 18.7M? Because to put him in the top 51, you have to drop someone off. 2.05M minus 750K (previous #51 contract) = 1.3M. 20.7 – 1.3 = 19.4 under the cap.
Guys like Cox, Strowbridge, Weaver, Preston, Laird, S. Parker, Eguavoen, Nedham, Ferguson, and Perry making the team will raise the under the cap number between 50K – 150K each, but we still have to sign Hunt (about 700K lowering of the under cap number) and practice squad guys another close to 1M reduction to our under the cap number.
I got some great news this morning! My COVID-19 test came back negative
Good to hear!
Yeah great news, but you already knew that😉 what this likely means is you can’t get it, since your son has exposed you to it and you don’t have it. Can you pass it to someone else? Maybe, wear that mask diligently for the next couple of weeks.
I don’t think it means I can’t get it but I might have some resistance to it.
That is good news Mike E

Good news on not having covid, and good news on all 11 picks signed before we start camp. Woohoo!
Any rookie not signed before camp starts this year is a moron.
Glad to know none of ours are morons, lol.
Dugar from the cheats that was picked 2 spots before Hunt has a cap hit of 1.51M, so Hunts will be similar. 700K reduction of our cap.
good news Mike
Yeah man, now I have to see when they’ll let me get back to work.
Funny!
YOHOO Mike E — and that test came back quick. You folks in NJ have it going on.
Your son isolated in a bed room and you guys leave him trays of food or something?
Exactly Stanger. He stays in his room and uses the bathroom in the hall, my other son uses our bathroom. As quarantined as we can make it.
Gonna be a tough week or so for him. But if you had it you two would probably be sharing a room……. which I’m guessing is a positive for both of you.
Great news Mike!!
Yes! I’m relieved. You never know what kind of bad turn this thing could take.
Stanger – If I had it I’d probably quarantine in the basement and share his bathroom.
Good for you & Mini-You Mike 👍
Strange, but my older son who has it told me on Thursday during our vacation that he felt like he had it. He was right, unfortunately..
Sorry to hear that!!!
U batting 600 🙃
How is he doing?
What feelings were making him correctly think that he had it ??
