Week 4 – Seahawks @ Dolphins

Six very important players in this upcoming matchup between the Miami Dolphins who are hosting the red hot Seattle Seahawks. There are more of course, more players who will have an impact on this game because ultimately 22 players are o0n the field at any given time. If our defensive line can’t harass QB Russell Wilson it will make the containment of WR’s Tyler Lockett and D.J. Metcalf very difficult. Even pressure alone doesn’t cut it with Russell Wilson, it’s containment as well. His escapability and ability to keep plays alive is one of his best assets, so initial pressure will be good, but not allowing him to scramble and find room to escape and keep the play going will be key. This is where Wilson separates himself from most QB’s, he’s one of the very best. Defending Tyler Lockett who is a very fast and savvy WR is difficult enough as it is, and same for physically imposing D.J. Metcalf, who by the way I was very wrong about. Thus far, Russell Wilson has been nearly the perfect QB. He’s completed nearlym 77% of his passes for 925 yards and 14 TD’s against one INT. His TD% is an absurd 13.6%. If not for Pat Mahomes, he would be considered the NFL’s best in 2020.

The Miami front 7 will also have their hands full, because not only can the Seahawks throw it but they have 2 backs that can run well too. Chris Carson leads their rushing attack with a modest 157 yards on 37 carries and Carlos Hyde can grind out a game too. Russell Wilson is actually 2nd on the team at the moment in rushing with 90 yards on 14 carries. He can do it all! The Seattle O-line has been built with a few retreads like LT Duane Brown (HOU), LG Mike Iupati (ARZ) and RT Brandon Shell (NYJ). C Ethan Pocic and RG Damien Lewis are the only Seattle draftees. They’re not a great line, but Russell Wilson makes them better than they are. Wilkins, Ogbah, Godchaux, Lawson, Van Noy, Sieler, Davis, Van Noy, Van Ginkel, Baker, Roberts and Grugier-Hill are all going to need to be disciplined and not lose containment. Flushing Wilson is good but bringing him down or forcing him to get rid of the ball before he wants to is important.

On offense, if we can duplicate what we did last week to Jacksonville we should be in this game. Seattle’s defense is a little better and Pete Carroll is a much better coach. All Pro S Jamal Adams is used all over the place, coverage, playing the run and rushing the passer and he does it all well. Not a big name defense but they have a trio of LB’s who get it done and tackle well in Wagner, Wright and Barton. No longer the “Legion of Boom”, Adams adds a little pop back into that secondary. We have extra time to prepare for this one which can only help us. It will give WR DeVante Parker a couple of extra days to rest that hamstring and give RB Myles Gaskin a breather after 22 carries Thursday night, far more than he’s had since his college days. It’s only 3 games in and you never know if things will change, but Gaskin looks like the real deal. We still have Jordan Howard and Matt Breida, but for now they seem like role players, Howard the goal line threat and Breida the change of pace. Gesicki will have a more difficult matchup this week and last week he only caught one pass. Parker gutted it out last week as opposed to sitting the game out like he would in the past and the team needs him. At some point this season we may see Lynn Bowden and Malcolm Perry but I think it might be a while. Parker, Williams, Ford and Gesicki and Gaskin are the main contributors.

If at the end of the day, Russell Wilson doesn’t have 3 or more TD’s and Carson and Hyde don’t have well over 100 yards combined I think we have a shot in this one. I don’t know if we’re capable of keeping the ball out of Wilson’s hands but I would like us to do that. Long drives mixing rushing with Gaskin and passing to the previously mentioned guys ending up in with TD’s on the board can make us a real spoiler upset. The line is 6.5 for the bad guys. We have our work cut out for us but a nice effort like last weeks win could keep us in this one.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

M13 I like you but seriously if you are going to bash me personally which you did as I am a moderator you are happy to go pay the Sun Sentinel so you can blog there with a “real moderator “ Chris Teijie smh
    —————–
    I’ll select… THIS post…

Last time I said “a certain moderator”, I was (again) cut down at the knees for not naming that certain moderator. So generically, I stated moderators, in the plural sense this time… and now every moderator here gets (generically) upset.

Ken, I VERY much like you as well. I didn’t take a shot at YOU… and you know it, too. Mike E knows I have major respect for him, too. I have nothing but HUGE respect for Miguel de la E. I hope that Herd knows that I respect her, too. Even though she and I have had our run-ins regarding politics, I KNOW she’s a decent person… most everybody here is a decent person.

I DO find it funny, though… I made a simple comment (hey, maybe I’m just a simpleton), and it gets under EVERYBODY’S skin. Reminds me of our current political atmosphere, and I realize where I stand (I’m a Conservative, PRO-TRUMP).

Ocala Howie has posted here (FMU), and many times. Not sure it’s cool to say that he doesn’t have the intelligence or the connections (only his daughter?!!) to get back here if he so wished… that’s WEAK SAUCE, y’all.

SERIOUSLY… this place has become extraordinary in it’s polarization. Weak-minded fools see that as an attack, strong-minded cats see that as CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.

If I truly wanted to sink this ship, I wouldn’t bother to come here at all (is that better, haters?).

Haven’t seen Prof Lou on the inter-webs (LOL) for a long time… nor have I ever met the man, seriously. But I would never do to y’all what he did, so as to call this site out in a most negative fashion on Twitter.

But to be perfectly HONEST… YES… this site (as currently constituted) has alienated a LOT of people who were once family to us on the SS.

Now think about that before coming at me with some more BS retorts. THINK ABOUT IT…

Tua wouldn’t be on the game day roster if he wasn’t ready to play. He’s not hurt. He’s a rookie QB waiting for his opportunity.

M13, so you’re still hung up on all that? Move on, man! You act like you’re the only one who has gone through that. Come on, man!

Iggy sucks. Hunt cant start and tua is still on the sideline. We gave up a 2nd for rosen and cut him. We may have made a huge mistake not taking herbert with that 5th pick. Ive all but lost confidence in greir and flores

  5. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Out of 5 really early picks we get one guy who is marginal at best. That being jackson. The other 4 have either no contribution or not good enough to start

  7. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Parker is the guy we always hoped he’d be right now. That’s fantastic. Isaiah Ford is looking very good as well, like the way he plays. Williams doesn’t seem to offer much more than a big target, doesn’t look especially slick while running routes but that’s OK. Gesicki is the guy that should be getting fed more and that’s bugging me.

  8. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

And what’s really bad is fitzpatrick is our leading rusher again

  9. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t feel the need to defend anything here, or anyone, but what is it we do here that’s different than any of the other shit we did on any of the other iterations of our group? I understand we may not be everyone’s cup of tea which is fine, but I can’t really think of any difference between here and the SS, Walker’s blog or even Tins Fins. Just a bunch of people saying what they feel and think.

  13. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rob – Fitz was our leading rusher today, but not for the season, that’s pretty different. The announcers mentioned SEA was rushing only 2 or 3 and dropping everyone else back into coverage which left plenty of room for Fitz to run. It wasn’t part of our game plan, just a vet QB’s awareness and decision making. I like the way we’ve run the ball, I think Gaskin is doing a good job. He’s not all world, but either is our O-line. Howard looked like sloth when he got a couple of rushes. I know he’s probably better as he heats up and gets more carries and wears down the defense so using him very intermittently isn’t doing him any favors.

  18. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I was actually kinda encouraged by this game. It looks like the defense is starting to get it and play with more conviction. The offense is game, but it’s just not there yet. I guess I watch a game like this and see some improvement for where this team is. There is still work to do with this roster. It’s not there yet. But, you can see the foundations of a really solidly built and well run team coming together.

Every coach and player says the same thing. It’s about the players. We don’t have the horses quite yet. But, if they can draft well these next 2 years, we will have the system in place to have a legitimate playoff caliber team for a handful of years, hopefully.

  19. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I thought Fitz ran out of the pocket a little early on a few plays. I like how he runs. He’s smart with it and usually gets pretty good yardage. But, today, he was getting a little antsy. Of course, having Davenport as your LT will do that to a guy, though. Lol

  29. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I do think our QB play yesterday should have been better. I think the game was winnable except for some very suspect throws.

Defense was a little better, it seemed.

    • D's avatar D says:

Its just Fitz’s style, he twill throw into really tight windows, and to his credit, he can make those throws, but with as many variables in play, he isnt the only one that factors into success. Because of that you get the Fitzmagic vs Fitztragic stories. He had some plays where i thought he made the wrong choice on the throw, a few of them were called out by the announcers too. Still he saw what he thought was a successful throw and he did pretty much put it where it needed to be, but then some guy jumped the pass or got a hand on it in the last minute. Seattle’s pass D was on it this game, they played lights out.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s easy to sit in the booth or watch on TV and criticize, it’s entirely another thing to make a split decision with someone baring down on you trying to turn your lights out, but we all do it. Fitz is who he is, and it’s why he’s been on 7 or so teams. No one expects him to consistently make those plays, he needs more help.

To point out what he could’ve, should’ve done is fair, but let’s not forget who he is and who was on the other sideline waiting to strike, if the game went into a shootout.

  30. D's avatar D says:

Iggy got burned a few times, and i called that one. Tyler Lockett is probably the best slot reciever in the game, he has incredible route running ability and he really is smart with how he runs those routes to get separation. I knew this would be a hard game for Iggy. That said, to call him a bad pick after one bad game, where his other games have been pretty damn impressive, thats just emotion talking. I mean come on, who thought we would even hang with Seattle for most the game? I think we played a solid game for a team with so many rookies and new players. I am as tiredof losing as anyone but you go into every season knowing that some of your games are really going to have to be played perfect to have a shot at it, and we are far from being able to play perfect games.

I agree about Iggy, and glad he’s been thrown into the fire, let him work it out now, and we know he’s biting (being a pup). You watch our games and think our D is terrible, then you compare some of the stats and points given up around the league and things seem better. They just need a little more time to gel and to get Jones back.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      No reason not to.

Flores must’ve seen something in Rosen he didn’t like, and since he was released it kind of backs that up, otherwise he should’ve been given more of a chance. I’ll give him a pass on that, but if Tua isn’t out there soon I’m going to continue sending the bad vibes Flores’ way.

His inner deer is starting to show.

This season is about improvement … showing that the building process is working.

I think these first four games has shown us this. Last year after four games our point differential was -147 … after four games this year its -4

As the season progresses I expect this trend to continue. Our rookies are getting valuable playing time. They will make mistakes but the play time plus coaching will move the progress along quickly.

My only concerns for this season so far is the Jets chance of getting Trevor Lawrence lol.

  36. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Through 1/4 of the season pts scored vs given up is within a pt, so Ok, 9 sacks is an improvement, which I believe will get better, STs has been excellent, penalties have been fairly low, but mistakes have been above avg.

Overall a huge improvement vs last season’s start, and even though the quality of play has been better than the last 4 games last year the record is not, due to schedule.

I think we aren’t getting the expected results, but we’re still pointing up. With 49ers, Broncos, Chargers and Rams up next we have a chance to get back to .500 WP, but I wouldn’t use that as an excuse to sit Tua.

  37. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

With that said, we should be better on O, its Tua Time🐟

      • D's avatar D says:

There are starting to be few arguments against it. I mean Fitz isnt playing bad, but every game he plays really doesnt add to anything in the future. The only reason remaining that you dont start Tua is you feel its better for him. My thing is, if we wait to bring him in untilt he playoffs are not even a thought, then he doesnt have the added pressure of trying to carry us into it. I think thats why Alex Smith stayed int he whole year, his last year because they had a playoff worthy record and bringing Mahomes in would have dumped all that on his shoulders. We obviously arent in that same spot, but, we still are not close to playoff eliminated, so do you throw the kid in there, knowing that his desire to win is going to make him put that pressure on himself, or do you wait until its not there so he can more ease into it.

  38. D's avatar D says:

BTW anyone else also think Flores had at least two fuck ups that could have cost us the game on the way he chose to play it? Specifcially to me there was the not going for it on 4th down at the gaol line, where i dont know why he thought take the three and expect the defense to keep the best offense in football off the field. That and the no challenge on that Fitx pass to Gesiciki. That was legit a first down, and had he challenged it it would have cost us nothing and would have potentially lead to at least 3 points.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Yeah I think not challenging the gesicki first down was questionable

I kind of get not chllangong

I don’t know that not going for it on 4th down is a mistake as much as an indication of who he is. I thought it was crazy to keep settling for FGs. But that’s just coaches discretion imo and hindsight is 20/20. Something like that is filed under “is Flores to conservative” rather than “fuck ups”

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

I wonder on the challenge if he was getting advice from someone else. I would think it would not just be up to what he saw, but also someone on the staff who is looking at it. Maybe they thought it would be one of those “call stands” deals, if the camera angle isn’t exactly right down the line.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The not going for it on 4th down I understand. Not challenging the Gisecki completion was inexcusable imo

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

When you haven’t gotten in the endzone and continue to settle for FGs, when the situation didn’t call for it, that’s a mistake. Flores seems to be making more than his share of mistakes this season.

He does his press conferences with that stupid look on his face and acts like he knows what to do to fix the issues, but doesn’t do enough.

My biggest concern for Tua was his fragility, especially with a brand new OL.

The OL seems to be coming together and might give Tua a little reprieve. Maybe, it’s time and certainly should be considered.

  44. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

D – I don’t know man, I think that’s overthinking it. Burrow and Herbert are in, and they look ready. It’s not about where the team is it’s where the QB is. Is Tua ready, healthy? If the answer is YES to both of those he should play soon. I’ve suggested WEEK 6 at home against Denver. He can get all the practice reps at home and be ready.

    • D's avatar D says:

I was thinking possibly the Jest game before BYE since playing the Jets this year should be like a practice game anyways. But Jets, BYE, Jets seems like a perfect get your feet wet spot. I know thats not until like game week 10, but i mean if ya wanna roll out the red carpet, that couldnt be a better spot. Also, think how popular he would be if he comes out and the first two games he plays is a sweep of the Jets. I dunno but if you look at life like a book, that seems like an almost too easy to write storyline.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

That is for sure the best window for it. Question is if it is the best time for the team and Tua. Fitz knows Tua will come in. My guess is all about balancing Tua’s health and starting the quickening (can’t be the only Highlander fan).

      • D's avatar D says:

Nah im a huge Highlander fan, so i picked up what you were putting down.

  45. D's avatar D says:

Im ready for Tua time, but i dont really care if it waits until week 10, Denver is probably a good team to start with too, like Mike was saying, maybe even next week against a busted up SF. I dunno. I mean i guess ultimately i dont care what they do, but the usefulness of having Fitz still in there at this point is kinda diminishing. So yeah wait until the OL starts to show they can play well together. They seems to have proven it. Wait until he has a few weeks under his belt since we had no preseason, well ok probably good enough there at this point. Like i said before we are down to only wanting the perfect spot to put him in, and in that case i dunno if you will find one, even though that jets-bye-jets does seem to be about as easy as it would get.

  46. D's avatar D says:

Steve, to me i do get what your saying, i dont even like the morale victory statement. Those really are only fair in situations of obviously desperation, where you really shouldn’t have been on the field with that team and you managed to not get embarrassed and maybe even challenged them a little. Thats almost the case for us against the Seahawks. I dont mean to downplay us at all, but speaking honestly with no fan loyalty, there weren’t many people giving us a shot not to get our asses kicked, even at home. We played them tough, not as good as we could have but still a lot better than expected for the majority of the game. I think it qualifies as a morale victory, im just not sure that we can afford too many more of those before there is dissension int he fan base. We gotta start getting W’s and against good teams not ones other also think are weak teams.

  47. D's avatar D says:

Ok my thoughts ont he not going for it on 4th down isnt that going for it on 4th wouldnt be risky, but we needed a spark, we needed to punch it in right there, and he should have shown some confidence in the offense to get that done. I know he is a defensive guy and he has that mentality of get point, get our D a chance to do something, then we can take another shot, but i mean really, you fail and they are pinned back, you succeed and you just took the lead with a decent amount of clock left, but you also put some pressure ont hem to respond with a TD. Maybe ultimately it didn’t matter, but they were moving the ball well enough i really didn’t think that he should have looked at it like that was the best move. That was his chance to be bold in that game, and he missed it and when he did, it came unraveled.

  48. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

our redzone efficiency sucks, and that’s on the coaches

    • D's avatar D says:

I agree with that, its more like Chan Gailey is a better 10-20 yard play kinda guy than he is good in a 5-10 yard window. it makes me nervous any time we have a 1st and goal to go.

  49. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i would be shocked to see Tua anytime this year barring injury, Fitz is just too damn good at moving the chains with his running ability, i believe you put Tua in there’s a regression.

“Look, the honest thing for me is if it was my kid, and he had a serious injury like that, I wouldn’t want his coach to rush to throw him in there because of media pressure or anything like that. That’s kinda how I approach this situation and really all situations.”
    — Brian Flores on Tua

  55. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I get the serious injury thing, so the thing to me is, is he healthy? Is he as fragile as Chris Chander? If he’s healthy then you play him, if he’s not healthy, he shouldn’t be the 2nd QB. That coach speak doesn’t do it for me.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’ll also add it shouldn’t be because of media pressure, it’s because he’s more talented than the current QB

      • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Yeah, I really like Flores, but in this case, he can’t play the concern for injury card. That went out the window when they gave him a clean bill of health, backed up by cutting Rosen and handing him the back-up job.

That statement doesn’t fly with me…..not that he cares…lol

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Toba – If he’s not comfortable with the playbook, there’s something wrong. If Herbert and Burrow can start game 1, he should have a grasp of the playbook by now.

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Burrow was going to be day 1 starter as soon as he was drafted. So they would have hammered him hard to get it down.. Herbert fair enuff, he wasn’t to be starting yet either…
first 2-3 games I see wanting Fitz in as tough defences and more experience, would give us a better shot at winning..let Tua watch and learn situationally.. I also see no reason to not start Tua this week … season is not lost yet and he MAY provide a spark on O ,,, trust the FLO 👍

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

He knows it and if he played they’d run stuff that he’s the most comfortable with.

      • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

That was my point, using what he’s most comfortable with , would depend on how much of the playbook he actually IS comfortable with .. don’t want to go into a gunfight with 3 bullets in the six chambers.

Is it possible for the defense to score negative points in our FF league? 🤔

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Yes actually. Your Def starts with 10PTS , at 3 pts against you will drop to I think 7 pts..? Another drop at 10 and 21. At 31 you go negative.. sacks and such will add points to ya … is it possible for you to lose the game HELL NO .. is it possible ya dip below 200 pts. Small chance yes … ya kicked My Ass

    —————-
Here we go again, and without moderation. You’re proving my point EXACTLY, Krishna.

Now let me ask you a question, Krishna: what did I do that was SO vile, so as to have you disrespect me like that? SERIOUSLY, answer the question.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

      Seriously?

You have been “crying” about your perceived unfair treatment on this blog by Piggy longer than I’ve been crying over my dead wife.

It’s been over a year now as I read the encounter between you and Piggy to Mrs. K when she was alive. That’s a fact.

Every week or two or three, you come here and drop bombs about your mistreatment and lament the good old days at sun sentinel. You have rarely discussed football when you do show up, yet you assert your opinion that the blog has gone awry because it doesn’t do football 24/7. You know what goes on here, because you read this blog all the time.

If you want to talk football, I believe your opinions will be accepted wholeheartedly here as you seem to know the game well. It was the original reason, I came, as this place seemed like it had knowledgeable Dolphin fans. Then, Mrs. K and I met a few of them.

If you want to tell us all how smart you are, carry on with racist rhetoric and lies, and how we are ignorant in the grand scheme of the “world order,” so be it. Some of us will challenge your/that bullshit. I, for one, found it vile and, at the very least, hypocritical to your one-love meme, back at SS.

Like I alluded above, I agreed with Piggy’s distaste of your non-football rhetoric and would never apologize to you for saying what was he said to you. Perhaps, you need to try and understand the message. You brought it on yourself. Now, I don’t know what you’re doing.

It seems like you’re crying like a baby because your feelings got hurt and you can’t stop crying. That’s on you, too.

      Seriously!

O M G!!! Let me make this clear so even you can understand it. I didn’t say Howie lacked the intelligence to get on here. He said he had trouble once before when he had been away for a bit and had asked his daughter to help. H E. S A I D. IT.

A perfect example of you taking something someone says and making some drama out of it where none exists.
    —————–
Is that right? Are you sure?

Factually, I was the last one who communicated with Ocala Howie on this board… and it was well after his daughter had helped him get back on here… as in many months afterward.

Did he have a recurrent issue? Perhaps, perhaps not. But let us not pretend that he got HEATED right before he went ‘off the air’ from this site.

    Selective memory is problematic.

M – Going to respond one last time. You have something to say, no one is going to moderate it, you won’t be kicked off. Just let it rip, say whatever it is, and be done with it, and then come here and talk about whatever else you want, or don’t. Just know, no one is moderating, you should have no fear of that. Stop making it seem like you have to hold your tongue, you don’t.
