Week 4 – Seahawks @ Dolphins

Six very important players in this upcoming matchup between the Miami Dolphins who are hosting the red hot Seattle Seahawks. There are more of course, more players who will have an impact on this game because ultimately 22 players are o0n the field at any given time. If our defensive line can’t harass QB Russell Wilson it will make the containment of WR’s Tyler Lockett and D.J. Metcalf very difficult. Even pressure alone doesn’t cut it with Russell Wilson, it’s containment as well. His escapability and ability to keep plays alive is one of his best assets, so initial pressure will be good, but not allowing him to scramble and find room to escape and keep the play going will be key. This is where Wilson separates himself from most QB’s, he’s one of the very best. Defending Tyler Lockett who is a very fast and savvy WR is difficult enough as it is, and same for physically imposing D.J. Metcalf, who by the way I was very wrong about. Thus far, Russell Wilson has been nearly the perfect QB. He’s completed nearlym 77% of his passes for 925 yards and 14 TD’s against one INT. His TD% is an absurd 13.6%. If not for Pat Mahomes, he would be considered the NFL’s best in 2020.

The Miami front 7 will also have their hands full, because not only can the Seahawks throw it but they have 2 backs that can run well too. Chris Carson leads their rushing attack with a modest 157 yards on 37 carries and Carlos Hyde can grind out a game too. Russell Wilson is actually 2nd on the team at the moment in rushing with 90 yards on 14 carries. He can do it all! The Seattle O-line has been built with a few retreads like LT Duane Brown (HOU), LG Mike Iupati (ARZ) and RT Brandon Shell (NYJ). C Ethan Pocic and RG Damien Lewis are the only Seattle draftees. They’re not a great line, but Russell Wilson makes them better than they are. Wilkins, Ogbah, Godchaux, Lawson, Van Noy, Sieler, Davis, Van Noy, Van Ginkel, Baker, Roberts and Grugier-Hill are all going to need to be disciplined and not lose containment. Flushing Wilson is good but bringing him down or forcing him to get rid of the ball before he wants to is important.

On offense, if we can duplicate what we did last week to Jacksonville we should be in this game. Seattle’s defense is a little better and Pete Carroll is a much better coach. All Pro S Jamal Adams is used all over the place, coverage, playing the run and rushing the passer and he does it all well. Not a big name defense but they have a trio of LB’s who get it done and tackle well in Wagner, Wright and Barton. No longer the “Legion of Boom”, Adams adds a little pop back into that secondary. We have extra time to prepare for this one which can only help us. It will give WR DeVante Parker a couple of extra days to rest that hamstring and give RB Myles Gaskin a breather after 22 carries Thursday night, far more than he’s had since his college days. It’s only 3 games in and you never know if things will change, but Gaskin looks like the real deal. We still have Jordan Howard and Matt Breida, but for now they seem like role players, Howard the goal line threat and Breida the change of pace. Gesicki will have a more difficult matchup this week and last week he only caught one pass. Parker gutted it out last week as opposed to sitting the game out like he would in the past and the team needs him. At some point this season we may see Lynn Bowden and Malcolm Perry but I think it might be a while. Parker, Williams, Ford and Gesicki and Gaskin are the main contributors.

If at the end of the day, Russell Wilson doesn’t have 3 or more TD’s and Carson and Hyde don’t have well over 100 yards combined I think we have a shot in this one. I don’t know if we’re capable of keeping the ball out of Wilson’s hands but I would like us to do that. Long drives mixing rushing with Gaskin and passing to the previously mentioned guys ending up in with TD’s on the board can make us a real spoiler upset. The line is 6.5 for the bad guys. We have our work cut out for us but a nice effort like last weeks win could keep us in this one.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

Anyone agree with this? It makes little sense to me since we got the QB, have solid WRs, and suck at drafting if we need LB and S already.

I also dislike the current narrative of “LOOK how much better we are!” We had just traded off our starting LT and WR, had few veterans and were considered the least talented team in the NFL early. We should obviously be much better especially since we won a decent number of games late with that same low talent squad after a lot of trading all year long.

I think we need to start expecting more instead of the same low expectations as always. They brought in a solid number of vets, especially ex -pats and we have the 2nd highest paid secondary in the NFL. We need to see the investments start to shine. I’m not going to be a happy camper with 5-11 or 6-10 this year. This team should be 7-9 or 8-8 tis year. Our next three games are very winnable and we play a 3 game freebie of Jets, Jets, Bengals. Good teams win the games they should.

    • Mike E. says:

I think Parker and Gesicki are playmakers, we just need Parker to be healthy and need to get Gesicki the ball. We saw what he can do last year, Fitz has had a hard time throwing to him for some reason.

    • steveccnv says:

LB we have good depth, but need a playmaker. QB, until Tua gets on the field we don’t know, but we don’t need to draft one. WR we have Parker, but not much else, although the injury Preston had I don’t think he’s fully healed yet, should be before the end of the season. I’d draft a WR with one of our 1sts. S I’d draft in the 2nd. Shocked we didn’t take one of the Ss earlier this year.

    • The Flying Pig says:

I think we are much better in September 2020 than we were in September 2019

I need to see the entire season or most of it before I say “we are getting better”

In terms of needs I don’t think we digressed at those positions, I just don’t think we addressed it yet

  5. steveccnv says:

How does a team go from winning the SB to being mediocre the next year, with mostly the same players?

It takes so much more than just a talented roster to be great. With that said, the current roster is good enough to win a playoff game. What team has ever had playmakers at every position.

The post above about us needing playmakers is a chix shit way of evaluating (knocking the article and not our posters). It’s always the Fins need this or that, F that, put your big boy pants on and get it done with the current talent.

  6. wyoming85 says:

    • steveccnv says:

They get targeted a lot, so that increases this stat, plus the tricks used against them won’t be used for long. Again F the stats and watch the game. It’s Ok for Austin to post this stat, but it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

  7. steveccnv says:

Lot of bad decisions coming from Flores this season. Sure we could’ve used some preseason games, but the good coaches have their team ready week 1. Belicheat made Flores look bad in the opener.

  8. steveccnv says:

I wish Flores would stop with the contradictions. By having cut Rosen, as many of us have mentioned, it says Tua is healthy enough to be the #2 to start the season, and if he’s healthy enough to be #2, then also for #1, then today he puts out that BS about if it was his kid coming off of hip surgery 10.5 months ago…

    • steveccnv says:

He’s making coaching decisions like he’s an old lady.

    • bookman11 says:

Overall I don’t have really many issues with Flores, but I can’t agree with him using the injury as a reason to take it slowly with Tua. If Fitz is injured early against SF and can’t return for awhile, would Tua be the starter each game? If his answer is yes, then his decision is based on something else other than injury. I think it is because he still feels Ftiz gives us the best chance to win, not sure I agree with that, but if that is his opinion, I just wish he would say that.

I think it’s great that Hunt has gotten on the field in these packages, just to get his feet wet, and a bonus that he’s been productive.

  12. wyoming85 says:

    cringe worthy!
It might also be a good reason to set the rookie another game, or 2?

    • steveccnv says:

With an interior OL I have no problem with say, moving Kindley to LG, then putting Hunt at RG, but i don’t like moving your RT to LT, then putting in someone else at RT, because now you’ve got 2 new starters at vital positions. Just put Davenport in at LT and quit over thinking everything. It’s even worse, when you bring in Hunt to make his first NFL start at RT as part of this change.

  13. Ken says:

It kind of cracks me up when some people complain about a lack of moderation. I remember when we set up this blog the feedback was just about unanimous that no one wanted any significant level of moderation. Now suddenly we are supposed to moderate every post? I have said this before but we are not kindergarten cops. We expect you to conduct yourselves accordingly and also don’t be surprised when someone on internet fan blog gets a little toxic from time to time. Put your big boy panties on and deal with it. That is about all I have to say on this topic

  14. Randy says:

    New Age,
Yeah, I agree with that tweet/comment…because it’s exactly what I said 2 days ago. Lol

  15. steveccnv says:

We’re stuck in a rut with Fitz at QB. He gives us a chance to win against any team, but isn’t consistent enough to win week to week, that’s why he’s been bounced from every team in the league. To take the next step we may take a step back first with Tua, but Tua needs to play now.

    • Ken says:

Fitz is a stop gap. I think they are just waiting for the right time and place to let Tua start and a west coast trip with a reshuffling of the OL. I will give the benefit of the doubt to Flores for now

    • D says:

Thats what i was saying yesterday, Fitz is fine at the QB spot, and they can keep running with him, the team has his back, he can be really good and carry us for wins, but ultimately, whats the point. Unless we are seriously thinking playoffs still, there is no reason to delay the start of Tua. I have already said, the Jets game is the game that best fits bringing him in, but unless they are worried about the Chargers and Rams pass rush on him, there doesnt seem to be a game that really doesnt say start me here.

  16. sb7mvp says:

I keep forgetting that Iggy is only 20 years old. Overall, I like Flores as a HC but I dont have much faith in his new Coordinators. We also lack situational coaching, especially from our OC. The defense came up big when it needed to in the first half, but the offense kept giving it back with little to show for it.
We have plenty of firepower on offense, but aren’t maximizing it. Theres no way we shouldnt have gone into the half without a lead and then beat the hell out of Seattle in the second half with our home field advantage. You cant let a team like Seattle hang around and that’s what we did.
As far as Howard goes. He might be one of those backs that needs reps to get going. I’m not sure what his issue is.

    • D says:

Grinder backs need reps to even out productivity. Yeah they can get 2-3 years a carry but once they start wearing down a D, then they start getting 3-4, 4-5 on those carries, so putting him in there once or twice a drive or a game, he really iisnt going to be able to put together anything special.

  18. sb7mvp says:

This team has more things to clean up than the QB and I’m sure Flores sees that as well.

    • stangerx says:

Of course it does. Team was burnt to the foundation last year. To me at least, only Q is what is best for Tua’s health and development.

    • D says:

I think in the next draft we should absolutely go WR early, and likely a QB mid round as a backup with starting potential, if Fitz decided to retire and/or wants to go into coaching. If he wants to go into coaching id be all over making him our QB assistant if not QB coach.

  19. stangerx says:

Nope that’s not a 50’s Corvette. It’s Songsan Motors’ SS Dolphin. Everything that makes it work is modern sportscar. Interesting idea, even if wouldn’t plop down the $159 K for one.

  20. stangerx says:

“The Miami Dolphins have decided quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will continue to start in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers, the team announced Tuesday on Twitter.”

But I guess that they had to announce means we are going to being talking about it every week from now on. Only a matter of time.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Yep
      The announcement is newsworthy

I don’t want to say it’s an acknowledgment that they had discussions on the topic but I don’t think it’s crazy to infer it

They will probably take up the issue again next Monday

    • steveccnv says:

They announced it, because when asked yesterday Flores wouldn’t commit to Fitz, now he has.

  21. wyoming85 says:

  22. Mike E. says:

Definitely reminiscent of an older Vette, maybe ’55 or ’56. I love that version of the Vette, so cool. I also love the original split view window on the Stingray. That’s when all cars didn’t share the same ideas as much, they all had their own flavor.

  23. Randy says:

There’s no rush to play Tua. It also sends a message to the locker room that the coaches are willing to promote a rookie to a starting position when he may not have earned it. That’s a loser mentality. I can go either way on this, but I don’t think it’s a reason to rip the head coach. Fans want the shiny new toy. Flores needs to manage the whole team and the locker room. Our OL has looked better, but they still aren’t good. Fitz has helped them look better than they are by getting the ball out and avoiding pressure. Would a rookie be able to do the same thing? Or, would you risk further injury? I get both sides of the argument, but I trust Flores’ feel for his players and team. For now. Lol
    ***
Plus, I assume they have designed this offense with Fitz’ abilities in mind. Changing QBs may require a major shift in how you run your offense. I’m not sure you wanna do that after 5 or 6 games in a season where you already haven’t had the normal amount of practice time. Just my .02 worth.
    ***
And on Iggy….my goodness…can we let the poor kid learn how to play in the NFL? He’s a rookie who was thrown to the wolves at one of the toughest positions in football. He’s making rookie mistakes, but you hope he’ll learn and grow from this experience. Yeah, I’d love to see him playing lights out but that’s a big ask for a rookie CB. He’s also gaining valuable experience as an edge corner….where most thought he’d be a slot guy.

    • steveccnv says:

I’m done giving our HC the benefit of the doubt for everything. There’s zero upside to continue to play Fitz. The only way it makes sense is, if we had a real shot at making the playoffs. Can he really go 12 games with only 3 losses? I think not, he has major consistency issues. If he actually did take us to the playoffs, then he sets back a year Tua’s development.

Are we better off next year, if Tua plays a lot this year compared to a little or none? If that answer is yes, then start him now.

Their amp energy drinks are kinda like that. I don’t think they did very well though because the Mt Dew brand is already strong and most people already think of it as an energy drink lol. Better to just keep rolling with the string brand recognition.

    Seriously?

You have been “crying” about your perceived unfair treatment on this blog by Piggy longer than I’ve been crying over my dead wife.

It’s been over a year now as I read the encounter between you and Piggy to Mrs. K when she was alive. That’s a fact.

Every week or two or three, you come here and drop bombs about your mistreatment and lament the good old days at sun sentinel. You have rarely discussed football when you do show up, yet you assert your opinion that the blog has gone awry because it doesn’t do football 24/7. You know what goes on here, because you read this blog all the time.

If you want to talk football, I believe your opinions will be accepted wholeheartedly here as you seem to know the game well. It was the original reason, I came, as this place seemed like it had knowledgeable Dolphin fans. Then, Mrs. K and I met a few of them.

If you want to tell us all how smart you are, carry on with racist rhetoric and lies, and how we are ignorant in the grand scheme of the “world order,” so be it. Some of us will challenge your/that bullshit. I, for one, found it vile and, at the very least, hypocritical to your one-love meme, back at SS.

Like I alluded above, I agreed with Piggy’s distaste of your non-football rhetoric and would never apologize to you for saying what was he said to you. Perhaps, you need to try and understand the message. You brought it on yourself. Now, I don’t know what you’re doing.

It seems like you’re crying like a baby because your feelings got hurt and you can’t stop crying. That’s on you, too.

    Seriously!
    —————–
First of all, I thank you for saying that I seem to know the game well. That makes me happy, man! Thank you. 🙂

But aside from that, you didn’t address my question. You’ve been chaffing my tail since well before what you characterize as my chastising by Pig (for lack of better words)… which you had no problem with, clearly.

Check it out… if I said to YOU what Pig said to me (or just imagine a conservative talking that level of smack to you), that would be WAR waged against you, and I’ve already seen a bit of it from you on your perceived receiving end.

Think I’m crying? Nah… I’m not “crying”. I’m talking about outright DISRESPECT to me, with an axe to grind. You wouldn’t tolerate it either, Krishna. Wear the shoe on the other foot.

It’s about politics, isn’t it? Just come clean and say it. I stayed away from politics, and I got told very sternly not to tell the blog what to talk about, being I wanted to talk about football. You can’t have it both ways, sir (no, it wasn’t YOU who stated as much).

And NO, I do not read the blog all the time, as you stated above. But every time I come over here, it’s more POLITICS, POLITICS, POLITICS. It’s the great divider, and now we have former friends out to get one another anymore. It just not cool anymore.

BAD move to call me a pussy, as it only serves to escalate a divide. WORSE move for the moderators to actually pat you on the back for that move. I want PEACE, not war, Krishna. I think(?) you want the same thing, too. Am I right?

I’d LOVE to get back to football!

I really don’t want to keep this thing going, either, but you seem to not realize the order of operations (think basic algebra). That, and you didn’t listen to what I said. Reading comprehension… and I’m seriously NOT trying to disrespect ya, Herd.

You’re the only one who doesn’t seem to understand what I stated.

Well that first part might be questionable nowadays. Let the bullets fly 😁

    LOL, alrighty then! 🙂

  66. mf13ss says:

Unless Ryan Fitzpatrick plays stellar ball, expect Tua to be the starter after the bye.
stej before the bye, stej after the bye.
That would be one heck of a measuring stick for the team as a whole, especially QB play.

    DEs are my priority
    ——————
    Same here, 100%.

And after DE (in nor particular order), RB, RT (for southpaw Tua), LB (the next Brian Urlacher, the never-ending search since Zach), and WR.

When I was growing up in Wisconsin we called it pop. Somewhere along the line I changed to soda. I must have become de-northernized or dropped the Fargo lingo when I lived in Florida…. not sure.

    • Tim Knight says:

It was called pop all over the country for a long time. It stuck in some states but I think soda became the name in more populated areas because of branding and throwing that word “soda” in our face.

  69. Tim Knight says:

We have no idea what this team will look like in the 2nd half. Last year after an 0-7 start we finished 5-4. The Jets went 6-2 down the stretch. For some reason everyone already wants to know who MVPs are and what each team needs to do in next year’s draft. After 4 games?

And soft drinks. WTF does that mean? LOL

    • TOP SECRET says:

      reminds me of a joke;
3 ladies sitting around talking about their boyfriends who were all named bubba, when one of them said, lets nickname them after a soft drink so we don’t confuse each other, i’ll go first, i’ll call my bubba 7 up. because he’s got 7 inches and it’s always up. the second lady says i’ll call my bubba mountain dew, because he likes to mount and do me. the third lady says i’ll call my bubba jack daniels. they both interrupted by saying, you have to use a soft drink, jack daniels is a hard liquor…….she replied, yep, that’s my bubba.

  71. Mike E. says:

    LOL Top!

  72. wyoming85 says:

I’m pretty sure it was called a Soda because before it was bottled and sold you had to go to a Soda Fountain to get one!

    But I’ve been wrong before?

Around me the more rural you get the more it’s called pop but mostly it’s soda

Seeing all the diet dew and diet Dr Pepper talk, how do you refer to that beverage genre in your area? Soda or Pop or Soda pop?

In the south, everything is a “coke”.

  75. Krishna says:

    I’ve always used coke.

Not sure of roots, as parents are from Chicago, born in TX, lived in Mississippi until 8, grew up in S. FL.

I think Fitz’s tenure is a little closer to ending, especially if he has a bad or so-so game this weekend.

Hopefully, Tua is far enough along, both mentally and physically. Just not a believer right now.

    • steveccnv says:

All we really have to go by is the scrimmage Fitz sat out, and Tua wasn’t good, but I find it hard to believe Burrow and Herbert were ready a while back and have played pretty good, and Tua still isn’t ready.

  77. steveccnv says:

Growing up in Hialeah everything was soda, until we visited relatives in Pittsburgh who called it pop.

  78. Mike E. says:

    Krishna – Used coke? lol

We called soda soda, never called it pop. As a joke we sometimes called it sody-pop but never seriously referenced it as pop. All cola sodas were just “Coke”. No one ever asked for Pepsi.

But perhaps the most significant innovation in the realm of soda flavoring came in 1886, when J.S. Pemberton, using a combination of kola nut from Africa and cocaine from South America, created the iconic taste of Coca-Cola. 1833.

Was in Peru a few years ago, and on the way back to Cusco from Machu Picchu the driver had cocaine leaves that they suck on. We tried it, it’s pretty good, but doesn’t get you high. The folk tale was their army survived on just these leaves for some time and they felt more energized.

When we got to Cusco the hotel had these complimentary leaves in the lobby to put in your tea.

That is why they put it in tea especially for tourists. It alleviates a few illnesses caused by the high altitude mostly high altitude headache.

Chris Griers fault, he chose the wrong player at 5. what qb ever amounted to anything from a saban ala team? at 5’9 tua looks to be too small to see over the ol.

  89. ocalarob says:

Fitzpatrick IMO is tied with Jay Fiedler as the best QB we’ve had since Marino. that’s how bad we suck at choosing a QB!

  90. ocalarob says:

first we give up a 2nd for Rosen, then a 5th overall for tua!
    do you see a pattern?

  91. ocalarob says:

what’s even worse is, i think rosen may be better than tua!

  92. ocalarob says:

at the time i wanted the best tackle available at 5 or trade back for future consideration, i wanted us to draft jordan love, after watching herbert we should have taken him!

  93. wyoming85 says:

  94. ocalarob says:

tua is small, he has marginal arm strength, he’s not going to escape the pocket like watson or jackson, he doesn’t have the wheels. so everything about him is either par or sub par.
maybe he’s accurate and turns into a drew brees. i’ll believe it when i see it

the reason you dont see tua out there is due to trying to cover up a huge mistake for as long as they can, job security.

  95. wyoming85 says:

  96. wyoming85 says:

I remember what everyone said about Josh Allen too!

I’m not sure I trust this board to choose a QB either!!!!!!! 😉

    • ocalarob says:

with the inside info and the availability to know these college players as our front office has, i’d bet most on this board would make better decisions at qb than the shot callers of this team.

  97. wyoming85 says:

  98. ocalarob says:

i think jackson was a reach, he seems to be playing good however if we traded back to maybe 10 we could’ve had jackson, wirfs , love and maybe another value pick.

spending that #5 pick on tua was a huge gamble, it doesn’t seem like a smart gamble as the man doesn’t appear to me to be a giant killer.
    i hope it pays off
