Miami Dolphins Training Camp doesn’t start until August 2nd, the FIFA World Cup is winding down, the NY Knicks won their first NBA Championship since 1973, so this is a quiet relaxing time for sports. MLB is approaching the All Star break, which will really grind the sports scene to a halt. It’s all good, summer is here, and this is the time to chill, enjoy the weather and the long days, and not worry too much about the sports scene. We had some record heat in the Northeast exceeding 100 degrees at least twice this past week leading up to the 250th Celebration of America. No matter what side of the political aisle you sit, America is still the best country in the world and don’t forget it!
I’ve seen all the NFL team predictions and just laugh. To me, predicting how teams are going to finish in the standings before training camp starts is very much like placing draft grades on teams for the players they drafted. None of it means a thing. I really have no idea how many games we’ll win this season, and will continue to feel that way until I see them practice, play a couple of preseason games, and then at least a few regular season games, and even then, injuries can change things immediately. Honestly, we have a whole lot of question marks all over the place on offense and defense, even before we sprinkle in all the new draftees, including the first 2 picks, RD 1 (#12) LG Kadyn Proctor, RD 1 (#27) CB Chris Johnson, and then RD 2 (#43) LB Jacob Rodriguez. While all of them figure to get substantial playing time, our 2nd RD pick LB Jacob Rodriguez who brings tons of excitement is behind some excellent veteran players such as ILB Jordyn Brooks, ILB Tyrel Dodson and ILB Willie Gay. It is possible one of them is traded which would make more opportunities available for Rodriguez much sooner, but that hasn’t happened yet, and Jordyn Brooks may well get an extension, which then would make one of the other aforementioned guys Dodson or Gay more expendable.
Back to those question marks. Yes, we drafted an OL early in OT/OG Kadyn Proctor. We saw last season how the best laid plans sometimes don’t necessarily work out, and last years trade up for OG Jonah Savaiinaea was simply a failure. His play was consistently poor except for a couple of flashes near the end of the season. He will be counted on once again, but this season at RG, where he played at Arizona. We drafted much later on, in RD 6 another OG, RD 6 (#200), DJ Campbell, from Texas. Campbell is a 4 year starter that could probably jump right in and play if needed, so Savaiinaea had better do more than just flash occasionally and play some physical ball rather than resemble a bull fighter or a turnstile. Same goes for rookie Kadyn Proctor, and then of course with RT Austin Jackson, can he stay healthy enough to play most of the season. We do have some depth guys like Jamaree Salyer from the Chargers and Charlie Heck from the Bucs, but it would be wonderful to see Paul, Proctor, Brewer, Savaiinaea and Jackson play 17 strong games together. I can’t remember the last time that occurred.
As far as the rookies, which rookie other than or even including the top 3 picks will have the biggest impact, and by that I mean positive impact? I’m hoping that Proctor is a real difference maker, a guy who is controlling the LOS, paving holes for Achane and our other backs and keeping defenders off of QB Malik Willis, or whoever is playing QB. Willis will be the man, unless he isn’t because he’s not getting it done or he’s injured. Last year’s 7th RD pick, QB Quinn Ewers showed he’s ready to start and should serve as the primary backup for Malik Willis. CB Chris Jones from what i’ve read and heard will be playing a combination of perimeter and slot CB, so he will be on the field an awful lot. I think he’s going to be a good player for us. I also think the much maligned WR Caleb Douglas, RD 3 (#75) will get his chances to make an impact in the passing game. We have a few Swiss Army knife types in LB/S Kyle Louis, LB/DE Trey Moore and I’m kind of interested to see if TE Seydou Traore makes the roster. I think 3rd RD pick (#87) TE Will Kacmarek will be on the field a ton, and then there’s TE Greg Dulcich. There’s also TE Ben Sims who’s started 8 games, but has played 45 games over 3 seasons with the Green Bay Packers and then most recently, the Minnesota Vikings.
Which young veteran players take that next step? Will it be DE/OLB Chop Robinson who took a step or two backwards last season? RG Jonah Savaiinaea at RG, who seemingly could only take step forward, not backwards. How will the trio of defensive linemen we drafted fare, DT Kenneth Grant, DT Jordan Phillips and DT Zeek Biggers? Will young CB Juju Brents be able to stay healthy and use his length to be a legit CB? Will either of the two backup RB’s Jaylen Wright or Ollie Gordon show they’re more than just a 4 or 5 carry a game RB? Will WR Malik Washington continue to be an important cog in the passing game? Now that RB De’Von Achane got his contract, will he be asked to do even more than his career best 1838 total yards from scrimmage? Will TE Greg Dulcich really be the big receiving TE most of you guys think he will be after never catching more than 33 passes over his 4 year career with 31 games played and 13 starts? Can DE Josh Uche who played for the Patriots and Eagles be a pass rush threat fro the Dolphins? Like I said, lots of questions, and we have a long way to go to get some answers. In the meantime, enjoy the good weather and mostly the long days of summer!

What was really cool was we were out on the water every day for the sunrise. We ended up watching the sunrise and moonset at the same time every morning before we jumped in the water.

Both Lauck and Lutmer are good. I think Lauck will end up being better than PP. He’s got all the athleticism you need for outside zone, and he’s still nasty in the run game. Very good prospect.

It went on for 30 minutes with me trying to figure out how an insane person moved next door to me. She’d finally had enough once she figured out there wasn’t gonna be any apology, and she walked off. Needless to say, she doesn’t speak to me now.

Funny… I was watching Chris Bell’s highlights (no, not game tape) just yesterday and I came away with the same questions as Ryder…
He’s not (yet) a crisp route-runner. Will he regain his explosion after the ACL injury? Doesn’t (yet) display deep-ball tracking (not his fault, coming from Louisville’s Offense and a QB who constantly under threw him).
Can he sell a double-fake at the NFL level? Can he clean up some of his mental faults?
I maintain Chris Bell may have been the STEAL of the ’26 Draft, but some are acting as though he’s going to be an automatic All-Pro, or at least an automatic Pro-Bowler once he hits the field.
I’m cautiously VERY optimistic (if that makes sense?), but we shall see.

Indiana’s offense is going to be a ?? with new QB Josh Hoover who I am not overly impressed with. He likes to force balls when he shouldn’t, has a slightly high TD/INT rate and he’s a bit smaller at about the same size as Quin Ewers.
IU added another stud WR to replace Omar Cooper in Nick Marsh from Michigan State.
That is going to be an interesting WR group for Indiana. Becker at 6’4, 207, 4.39 forty and Marsh 6’3, 203, 4.38 forty.
Indiana may have a 3 headed monster at RB also with the return of Lee Beebe 5’10, 218 after his ACL injury early last season. He was averaging 7.7 ypc before the injury. Him with Khobie Martin and transfer bowling ball Turbo Richard at 5’9, 210 from Boston College.
But, yeah, I see “special” with Charlie Becker.
Actually, Indiana also added another transfer stud in Tulane’s best WR Shazz Preston, 6’0, 209.

Malik Willis isn’t set up to flourish on a rebuilding squad with arguably the league’s worst pass-catching group. The Miami Dolphins are heading into training camp with Jalen Tolbert, Malik Washington and Tutu Atwell as their top three wideouts. None of the aforementioned receivers has caught more than 49 passes in a season.
According to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, Willis has built a rapport with Greg Dulcich. Yet if his top pass-catcher is a fifth-year tight end who had his best year as a rookie, that’s not a good sign.
Because of a below-average supporting cast, Willis will underperform on a three-year, $67.5 million deal.

I need a synopsis of what that Crabb guy said, but I’ll tell you what I saw last year. Patrick Paul…bad in the run game. Jonah…bad in the run game. Brewer….very good at downfield blocks against guys 50-70 pounds lighter but terrible at point of attack plays. RG…didn’t matter, pretty much all bad. RT…repeat of RG.

The “good thing” was that Paul and Fat Jonah flipped the script about mid season. They had like 18% missed assignments in the first half of the season but they dropped to like 9% missed assignments in the second half of the season. Overall two of the worst offenders are no longer on the team and two of the other worst offenders (Jonah and Paul) were on the upswing after the first half of the season last year.

I’d very much like to see us keep him here for a long time. He’ll be 29 years old in October and he’s just hitting his prime. Plus, he was the understudy of future HOFer BOBBY WAGNER in Seattle.

looking at Jalen Tolbert So. Alabama highlights, his strengths seem to be the same as in NFL. Good on 50/50 balls, runs good routes…every body type has inherited positives/negatives. Being too tall can limit quickness, think it might be better to be closer to 6′ and have better hops.
I’m hoping Tolbert starts off as the go to receiver. I’d like 3 guys Tolbert, Malik and Dulcich to all be good possession receivers

You crowd the lanes and ALL the running is crowded. A running QB does NOT back defenders up.
The simplest way will be for Willis to be able to identify the blitz and put the ball where the player would have been if he hadn’t blitzed. That’s not his strength though is it?

183 tackles last year for Brooks got him to All PRO. Is he really that good or are the players around him that bad, that it allowed him to make more plays, than if others were actually making some tackles?

I’d guess teams will focus on stopping Achane. He’s our only weapon. I don’t think teams are gonna be worried about Willis running or our passing game. If Hafley can figure out how to make teams pay for doing it, will be the real test of this season.

My top 3 QBs heading into the 2026 college season are Dante Moore, CJ Carr, and Arch Manning. Of course things can and probably will change as the season unfolds.
Top 2 favorite WRs are Jeremiah Smith and Charlie Becker. That was for you BBM.
Top 2 favorite Edge guys are Colin Simmons and Kenyatta Jackson.

I would take that also. I think Tae Johnson could be the next great free safety. Notre Dame is going to have a very good secondary (maybe best in the country) with Safeties Tae Johnson and Adon Schuler. Plus, they have the preseason #1 CB in college football in Leonard Moore and added DJ McKinney to the other CB spot who transferred from Colorado to go along with a really good NB in Christian Gray.

You wanted to start a football convo with this, so I’ll gladly contribute: I honestly don’t know what to expect regarding our passing game! My expectation isn’t very high, due to the (lack of) talent and experience in our WR room.
I feel Malik Willis can make it happen, but he doesn’t yet have enough talent around him (again, WRs) to really make his full skill-set come alive in year 1.
IMO, better hope Caleb Douglas’ or Tutu Atwell (both have 4.39 40-speed) can take the top off a Defense when we need to at least threaten with the deep ball. I mean, if we can’t even threaten to stretch the field, 8-in-the-box will likely keep us in check all season long.

Thanks for the input. When I was thinking about it yesterday I was kinda wondering if they might somehow get creative with those multiple TE sets people are saying we’ll use. I don’t have a lot of faith in our passing game, but I’m still hopeful, as a fan. Maybe Willis et al play great!
It looks like, at this moment, we will be a methodical offense that will exploit the middle of the field. But, if defenses play to stop Achane, there will definitely be opportunities down the field, as Steve said. You always try to take what the defense gives you, but can we? I don’t see much of a deep threat.
I understand football 101. I guess my mind was more focused on the “how”. We still have to see how defenses play us, but as usual if teams can make us one dimensional, it’s gonna be a long season. It would be great if a WR stepped up to be a legitimate threat downfield. Maybe your boy Chris Bell does his best Oronde impression and makes all sorts of one-handed sideline catches!

Rock, she doesn’t sing lead often but she is good at it while playing the drums. She isn’t doing anything overly technical (I think) and adds some nice drum fills but to keep the timing while playing and singing has to be difficult especially pushing out the longer notes. My wife says she sings her songs while running on the treadmill to help with her voice control. Makes sense.
Just watched Chris Bell highlights again, he’s a load and seems to have another gear, when running away from traffic

I have wondered similar things. They have been saying he was ahead of schedule and already doing sprints. (it’s the cutting and start / stopping that he needs to gain strength for still according to reports)
I don’t want them to rush things and cause a set back, but if he heals well, then hell, it will be nice to see him gaining experience THIS season for the push in the future.
IMO, This season is all about coaching up this very young team, laying the foundation of proper winning culture and layering growth over growth for future success.

My worst case scenario for this season is if Willis is “good enough” but they make excuses for him because of the play of others and then it takes 3 more years to figure out he wasn’t the guy.
If we are going to suck this year, I don’t want to wind up with Ronnie Brown @ #2 again when AARON FUCKING ROGERS is on the board!
I really think that REGARDLESS of what Willis does this season, we draft the best QB in round 1 of next season. What’s the worst that can happen there? We trade one of them for a high pick later?
Question to be answered is who will be the “best” QB in round 1.
Right now, I see Dante Moore as the #1 with Manning and CJ Carr as very close second best.
Moore and Manning will be in the draft along with Mensah, Chambliss, Maiava, Josh Hoover, Brendan Sorsby, John Mateer and some others.
We will have to see if Julian Sayin, CJ Carr, Drew Mestemaker, Drake Lindsey, Lanorris Sellers, DJ Lagway, among others will stay another year for NIL money.
I think the ones who look to go in the 1st round will enter the draft and the others will stay for the NIL money and potentially get a higher pick in 2028.

Grant really needs to step up this year to account for his first round selection. He HAD NOT lived up to that position or even his rookie salary as yet.
Miami Dolphins interior defensive lineman Kenneth Grant earned an overall Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of 48.4 for the 2025 season. This included a 57.6 pass-rush grade and a 41.2 run-defense grade, ranking him 107th overall out of 134 qualified interior defensive linemen. [1]
MF-13 seems to have been right about Mason Graham being the reason Grant looked good in college.
Graham was much better as a rookie
Overall Defensive Grade: 68.7 (ranked 31st out of 134 qualified interior defensive linemen)
Run Defense Grade: 62.4
Pass Rush Grade: 62.2 [1]
So, hopefully, if Phillips ups his game it will help Grant in that regard also. Even then, it would still mean he is not living up to where he was drafted.
I still think he will be a solid DT for us.
I would like to know his ranking from 1st half of the season vs the second half of the season. Many say he was a lot better second half as was the other rookie DT’s. Not sure if we can go by that though.

Rock, we are finally getting past the COVID redshirt era where college players got up to 2 extra years of eligibility. That COVID eligibility + redshirt + medical redshirt gave players up to 8 years of eligibility.
With just the redshirt, now it’s back down to 5 years or 6 years if they qualify for a medical redshirt in addition.

It was mainly 1 yr for all players for COVID for the 2020 season, but many were able to qualify for a second COVID exemption. I think it was if they caught COVID in 2021, they got a second exemption. I’m not 100% on that though.
