Six very important players in this upcoming matchup between the Miami Dolphins who are hosting the red hot Seattle Seahawks. There are more of course, more players who will have an impact on this game because ultimately 22 players are o0n the field at any given time. If our defensive line can’t harass QB Russell Wilson it will make the containment of WR’s Tyler Lockett and D.J. Metcalf very difficult. Even pressure alone doesn’t cut it with Russell Wilson, it’s containment as well. His escapability and ability to keep plays alive is one of his best assets, so initial pressure will be good, but not allowing him to scramble and find room to escape and keep the play going will be key. This is where Wilson separates himself from most QB’s, he’s one of the very best. Defending Tyler Lockett who is a very fast and savvy WR is difficult enough as it is, and same for physically imposing D.J. Metcalf, who by the way I was very wrong about. Thus far, Russell Wilson has been nearly the perfect QB. He’s completed nearlym 77% of his passes for 925 yards and 14 TD’s against one INT. His TD% is an absurd 13.6%. If not for Pat Mahomes, he would be considered the NFL’s best in 2020.
The Miami front 7 will also have their hands full, because not only can the Seahawks throw it but they have 2 backs that can run well too. Chris Carson leads their rushing attack with a modest 157 yards on 37 carries and Carlos Hyde can grind out a game too. Russell Wilson is actually 2nd on the team at the moment in rushing with 90 yards on 14 carries. He can do it all! The Seattle O-line has been built with a few retreads like LT Duane Brown (HOU), LG Mike Iupati (ARZ) and RT Brandon Shell (NYJ). C Ethan Pocic and RG Damien Lewis are the only Seattle draftees. They’re not a great line, but Russell Wilson makes them better than they are. Wilkins, Ogbah, Godchaux, Lawson, Van Noy, Sieler, Davis, Van Noy, Van Ginkel, Baker, Roberts and Grugier-Hill are all going to need to be disciplined and not lose containment. Flushing Wilson is good but bringing him down or forcing him to get rid of the ball before he wants to is important.
On offense, if we can duplicate what we did last week to Jacksonville we should be in this game. Seattle’s defense is a little better and Pete Carroll is a much better coach. All Pro S Jamal Adams is used all over the place, coverage, playing the run and rushing the passer and he does it all well. Not a big name defense but they have a trio of LB’s who get it done and tackle well in Wagner, Wright and Barton. No longer the “Legion of Boom”, Adams adds a little pop back into that secondary. We have extra time to prepare for this one which can only help us. It will give WR DeVante Parker a couple of extra days to rest that hamstring and give RB Myles Gaskin a breather after 22 carries Thursday night, far more than he’s had since his college days. It’s only 3 games in and you never know if things will change, but Gaskin looks like the real deal. We still have Jordan Howard and Matt Breida, but for now they seem like role players, Howard the goal line threat and Breida the change of pace. Gesicki will have a more difficult matchup this week and last week he only caught one pass. Parker gutted it out last week as opposed to sitting the game out like he would in the past and the team needs him. At some point this season we may see Lynn Bowden and Malcolm Perry but I think it might be a while. Parker, Williams, Ford and Gesicki and Gaskin are the main contributors.
If at the end of the day, Russell Wilson doesn’t have 3 or more TD’s and Carson and Hyde don’t have well over 100 yards combined I think we have a shot in this one. I don’t know if we’re capable of keeping the ball out of Wilson’s hands but I would like us to do that. Long drives mixing rushing with Gaskin and passing to the previously mentioned guys ending up in with TD’s on the board can make us a real spoiler upset. The line is 6.5 for the bad guys. We have our work cut out for us but a nice effort like last weeks win could keep us in this one.
GO DOLPHINS!!!
Lol have to give it to you OCRob, when you give up on someone you jump in with both feet.
ORob, how do you know all of this about Tua, he hasn’t even played yet? I mean we weren’t even able to see him in a pre-season game.
i don’t know for sure, just reading the tea leaves, he doesn’t have the stature or the arm strength to warrant such a high pick, most qbs with his same attributes that didn’t play for alabama would not get drafted.
the fact that they refuse to play him at 1-3 has me concerned a bit as well. they seem to be prolonging the inevitable.
you would think a qb taken at 5 would be ready to take over the team at this point, especially at 1-3.
fitz isn’t bad but it would appear tua can’t beat him out.
what does that tell you?
Buy better tea bags! 😉
Eye test
Too late for the Fest, but at this point too late anyhow. No travel reservations done.
If at this point Fitzpatrick gives them the best chance to win then this F.O. should all be fired.
Damn, where can I find me some of those coca leaves? I could use a pick me up. Maybe it would help me understand algebra or whatever that was. 😂
You’re a Mom….. not like you haven’t seen such before. And not talking Coke.
Coca Leaves United States illegal but tolerated. It’s true that coca tea bags can be decocainized (cocaine alkaloids removed just like Coca Cola does) and are hence, legal in the United States. … Under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the entire coca plant is restricted outside South America.
Lol, BOB
Speaking of Bobs, I know OBob (JBB) is just messing around, but it does say something about Flores, if Tua isn’t ready.
Tua’s health is still a consideration. And remember the good old days when top drafted QBs sat a year? I’m really not that worried about when Tua plays so long as he does play.
Herd,
It’s called adderall! Just tell your doc you’ve been feeling down and have no energy to keep up with the demands of our world right now. They prescribe the stuff like pez. Lol
Unless ya have a psych condition where you actually need it then they put ya through a fucking battery of tests to get it.
There has to be some here that wanna give OCRob a tea bag…….with better leaves….come on now….lol
Mahomes sat. Rodgers sat. Obviously they are both terrible QBs. Geez Louise.
both had great starters on winning teams and both had better attributes than tua…;Louise.
Dwayne Haskins — #15 pick in the 2019 draft.
He started Washington’s first 4 games and now is #3 on the depth chart. When it comes to QBs you never know.
Rob,
I know you like Herbert, but he wouldn’t even be playing if Tyrod didn’t get jabbed in the lung by their Doctor.
Also, did you not like Flores coaching to win the second half of last year by playing Fitz? Now he should be fired if he is coaching to win?? That kind of confuses me.
I believe he will play Tua when he feels he is ready, I was hoping that was now, but It doesn’t diminish my view of him as a coach.
i think they should be fired if they wasted a #5 overall pick on a mediocre qb, also wasted a 2nd rnd pick on another. the fact that he isn’t better than fitz at this point has me concerned. you draw a line and lose confidence when that line is crossed.
the lack of talent evaluation over the years has been one of the reasons for the sad output from this team, and the hits just keep on coming
look at the other picks? jackson seems all right… but iggy? he may have talent but he seems to lack intelligence. Hunt cant make the starting 5? has davis been special or JAG?
Grier was here prior to Flores so really nothings changed, just the same incompetence at evaluating talent.
ORob, you think you might just be jumping the gun a bit here?
say’s the founder of the patience brigade….LOL!
Okay have fun with your complaining. Sheesh!
I’m starting to side with OD, Stephen Ross is the problem, he can’t find a smart F.O.
we need a new owner.
Flores is the next Joe Philbin!
LOL
right,….. i guess we’ve been jumping the gun for 12 years now.
It’s too early to judge Flores or Tua too harshly dude
It’s October, maybe we revisit this in December
But right now….I think it’s too early
i’ve been shot too many times to not jump the F’n Gun!
We all have
I’m just busting chops
after watching herbert, and let’s say we drafted him, would you hesitate starting him over Fitz? i certainly wouldn’t, if your answer is the same what does that tell you about Tua?
I would treat Herbert no different than Tua
I don’t think Fitz starting has anything to do with the rookie behind him. Fitz plays hard. He’s been a team leader, he helped us get through a miserable season
It just wouldn’t be right to treat him like yesterday’s trash
Fitz knows it’s a matter of time before the rookie starts. He’s just holding down the fort until we are ready to make that move
Also the only reason Herbert is starting is bc Taylor got hurt
If you want to start our rookie, we should hire the chargers team doctor….lol
Some fans can’t handle what a rebuild looks like. It’s a painful process that doesn’t produce immediate results. Next year is going to be the year when Flores is on the hot seat if we don’t start winning. It won’t be this year. Get used to it.
Talent evaluation has been our major issue for decades. I think it’s fair to question if it is still a major issue. But we’re only a year and 4 games in to our rebuild. I’m going to give it a little more time before I call it a failure and call for heads, lol.
How patient of you. LOL
You are both jerks
Let’s put poop in a bag, light it on fire and put it in front of Greir’s door
Who’s with me?!?
LOL
After 20 years of futility, I understand how some fans just don’t have patience anymore. We’ve been in this grind for so long and yielded so few results, I think it speaks to our fandom that any of us are still here.
And I disagree that if Flores is playing Fitz to try and win now that it’s a mistake. I have no problem trying to sneak into a playoff spot this year. Once we’ve crossed that line of no return, then get Tua in there if he hasn’t been put in already. If Tua gets 8 games this year instead of 10 or 12, I don’t think it horribly throws off his curve. And if Fitz gets us to the playoffs, which I think unlikely, even better.
2020 Miami Dolphins – 28 new players, a very young team overall and no PS. So after 4 games we start blowing it up again? LOL
I BTW loved both Tua and Herbert and I said repeatedly hat I can’t understand why some people felt the urge to bad mouth Herbert to take Tua
The reason I invited we don’t trade is bc i l odd the idea of taking either Tua or Herbert at 5
We took Tua and that was as perfect as a bacon ban to me
I didn’t like Herbert and it had nothing to do with Tua. He just never excited me when I watched him play. The kid has been on fire since he started the NFL and I’m glad for him. I saw nothing like this at his time at Oregon and I don’t think Lynn is a very good coach either. Props to him for proving me wrong. Hopefully our guy does the same when he gets his chance.
So you don’t want to light poop 💩 on fire with the rest of us?
I definitely want to light poop I’ll even decorate the bag so that Grier knows how serious we are.
You are really serious until you are willing to decorate the poop too
Don’t forget the part about knocking on the black door so after the poop fire is stomped out, he tracks it through the house

What I don’t get is why my governor had to have someone send out a tweet about it. Could have just said the rules are changed for all stadiums in FLA.
Is he up for re-election? lol
Nope — works more like this.

Where is ORob coming up with Tua doesn’t have a strong arm? Tua has a cannon. Even Fitz said Tua can make throws he cannot even dream of making. Sweet baby Jesus
I think he’s trying to stir the pot. Why I’m not sure but hey everyone has an opinion.
I’m not an NFL talent evaluator, but before he got hurt Tua was predicted to go with the first pick. Think we all remember “Tank for Tua.” Figure might have been some reason for that.
Because his level of play in college was off the charts. My concerns about Tua as an NFL prospect was durability and was he feeding off of being on a team with superior talent? Then once we drafted him, I went back to review video of him and I saw him make more contested throws than I saw Baker Mayfield make, and realized why he was so good. Good pocket presence, mobility to buy more time or pick up a 1st down with his legs, and his timing and accuracy on many throws was elite. There is no arm strength issue with Tua.
Now will that translate to the NFL? We’ll find out when he finally plays.
Well ORob thinks differently. Guess we’ll have to see what happens when he does play. I’m looking forward to it. Also figure the O will look a bit different scheme-wise.
LOL @ Bookman
That’s something Seinfeld and his good time buddies would do. LOL
You could be right. Seems like a joy boy tactic lol
LOL
There has been practice footage of Tua that has leaked and the velocity of his passes looks amazing
Not happy about practice footage leaking though …belicheat is probably eating or up….lol
Orob,
Yep, now you finally said something on which we can agree. There have been too many misses in the personnel department. Grier was part of many of them. Flores really wasn’t. I think they’ve made some good picks in the last couple years. I would’ve gone in other directions sometimes, but I still like the last 2 drafts for the most part. They have another big draft coming up, and this roster is far from set. I’m waiting to see how we look 2 years from now. If we’re not a legitimate playoff caliber team and still struggling to win 10 games, I’ll be hoping for change. I get that not every fan sees things the same way. The great part is that it doesn’t matter one bit! Lol
***
And Tua will be playing soon enough. It’s not an indictment of anyone that he’s not starting right now. This team is benefiting from a solid veteran presence at QB. It may or may not be benefiting Tua, but I bet it may be benefiting others on this very young team.
Grier as the head honcho or the big cheese started last year. That’s where he and Flores started. Not when Gase and Philbin were the head coaches or with Tannenbaum over seeing the football operations. It started in 2019. Remember Grier is the one who moved on from that shitty #17 QB once he was in power. Don’t be hung up on some clown from the 60’s man. LOL
Lmao!!
Tim,
For me, Grier has been identified as having a lot of input into personnel for many years. I think it’s fair to judge him for it even if he wasn’t the final say guy. He was heavily involved and could easily have been the push behind actually picking certain guys. In fact, I’d bet my pension he was. That’s just me.
Yes and he was part of drafting some good players as well that are still on the team. The structure of the team was totally different before 2019, and Ross decided to start over, handing the reins over to Grier to go find the head coach and build it his way. It’s still in it’s infancy. Now we’re already going back to the past? Grier and Flores are tied at the hip and less than two years into the rebuild. Let it play out for a minute or two. Geez!
Someone forgot to renew their prescription..
Tim,
Is it just me, or have we had this conversation before? Lol
LOL
Rinse Repeat
I am also on record giving Grier more blame than most on here are comfortable with over the past DECADE.
I was dead set against taking Tua, from the first time I heard his name and wanted Herbert. (both well documented on here) but they are apples and oranges now. They are on different teams with different situations. They both get a chance to be a new player now.
I’m not against playing Fitz with the full playbook that he has known for years over Tua who has had no offseason and is learning the system for the first time. THIS IS THE FORTH WEEK
LOL, okay Grier has been the problem all along. I know the patience thing has become a joke and all that. But when you blow it up and start over this is what happens. Now that’s not quick enough either? So how should it be done armchair GM’s?
Is it really blowing it up when you promote from within? I am more willing to wait and see, again, at this point but I am on record saying that grier HAD BEEN PART OF the problem for a long time. This is is first stint at full control, picking his coach, etc so I am not going to rail about it just yet. He doesn’t get a pass for all of his prior involvement though.
It goes further, the scouting department has been the same guys forever, GM”s have come and gone but the scouts have stayed the same. Blown up? not at all.
It appears that our patience is finally going to pay off (IMO) with Flores so I have hope again.
Until……
Losing sucks and we just lost a game that looked winnable. The Defense took a big step last week, got pressure and got off the field way more often probably more than anyone would have expected.
I like the direction and I’m ready to watch it play out for a bit. Winning fixes everything, just have to learn how to win. Hint: it takes big plays at key moments.
Totally agree. What we’re lacking now is explosive plays on offense, a big play on STs here and there and more game changing plays on defense. We hang in there. But maybe that starts to happen in the next few weeks and that changes everything. Just keep getting better.
How about the direction that ATL team is going? I’d rather be the Dolphins. We’re just getting started while that team is crashing and burning. It’s a tough league. NFL = Not For Long.
Atlanta is in meltdown for sure. Ryan looks done, he’s always made some real ugly throws here and there but uglier and more frequent now plus injuries are stacking up on them too. Yes I’d rather be us.
the problem so far at 1-3 is there have been too many big plays. The other team has made them.
Absolutely. Too many picks on O and only 2 takeaways, maybe three but I only remember X getting 2 picks.
Rock, I think you’re digging too deep and acting like Grier has been nothing but bad. We drafted good talent, but never built a “team”. Now Grier as the main man has his chance. Can we see it play out before screaming and yelling for a lollipop 4 games into Phase II? LOL
LOL no screaming here. I said I am in wait mode again. I just have more judgment weighed against him than you do.
All good. I’m watching just like we all are. But it’s way too early to call stuff out. This team is learning itself each game – 4 games in. That’s what your “blow it up” mindset causes. This is what it looks like. I don’t have great expectations so watching improvement is all I want to see. Build into 2021.
my biggest concern is after waiting so long, shit through a realignment of divisions, is that Buff will stop being a joke and be the playoff team they were last year and seem to be again this year.
What’s this shit through a realignment of divisions you speak of? What does that mean?
there was a time when Peyton Manning AND Tom Brady were in the AFCE. You forget!?
Oh, I thought you meant there were new realignments coming
The Defense needs a pick six and then who knows what the hell might happen after that. The Defense but really the whole team. Or a kick or punt return for TD but I think a pick six would have a bigger impact.
Plays, make big plays
We need big plays badly
son,
Big plays can be created from scheme, but they usually happen because of playmakers. We need more of those. That’s kinda how I jumped into this whole conversation about Grier and drafting. This roster is not set yet. We’re just not there yet. A high end DE, maybe a S, maybe a young WR with high end talent/potential, another long term OL. We need to keep drafting and try to get 2 or 3 playmakers.
I’m with the few that Grier has a questionable, but long history with the losing Dolphins. It bothers me that his scouting team, I believe, has essentially remained the same today as it was during all those losing years.
However, imo, his clock for success started upon his promotion to GM when he was tasked to pick a coach.
So far, it seems the team is trending in the right direction and keeps getting better. It seems we’re doing it right this time. Lol…blowing up everything except the department that picked the groceries.
Let’s let year 2 play out and reassess at that point. Until then……
…….Grin and bear it.

On Isaiah Ford:
He’s smart, he knows multiple positions, he’s where he’s supposed to be the majority of the time. He’s depenadable and accountable. He’s gotten open and made plays in critical situations. He’s earned his playing time.

Gaskin improvement: Even when he was inactive he was here on his off days. He and Patrick Laird were training on their own. They’d be in the bubble off in the corner with bands trying to get better.

Eric Rowe’s position depends on the call. He’s very versatile. On one snap he can play linebacker, another strong safety and another corner.

Ereck Flowers has played well. He’s brought leadership since he’s been here. He loves to play. I notice his energy on the field every week. If there’s a big catch or a big run he’s the first guy down there to celebrate, it’s infectious. It’s something I highlight in meetings.

Schematically the 49ers do a good job of creating angles, Flores says.
▪ Injury news: Austin Jackson will not practice again Thursday due to a foot injury, but Flores did not rule out him playing Sunday against the 49ers.
“He’s definitely made some progress this week,” Flores said. “Maybe tomorrow.”
Shaq Lawson was out Wednesday with a non-COVID-19 illness, but should be back at practice Thursday, Flores added.

2020 Miami Dolphins – 28 new players, a very young team overall and no PS. So after 4 games we start blowing it up again? LOL
_____________________________________________
If you’re counting this is Flores & Greir’s 20th game, not 4th.
just like the patience brigade king to somehow lose 16 games.
shits getting old, i want to see some progress….NOW MF’er
I don’t think anyone is trying to blow it up, we’re just pissed at how unprepared the team seems to be so far, and lack of adjustments in game haven’t helped Flores’ case.
I’ve been hard on him lately, but I’m going to take a step back and praise him today on the great job the OL has done so far and the improvement over last season.
The OL is still mostly trying to build chemistry and become more dominant in the run game, but as a whole they’ve done a good job.
Sacks are way down, time the point we’re in the top group with only 1.5 per game. Some have talked about Fitz moving around, but he did the same last year, so…big improvement.
Me too, and it’s showing, so far. A little slower for my tastes, but it there appears to progress.
Just like the economy, you don’t flip a switch.

With Gaskin I still see some issues with his vision, it’s not good enough and what’s holding him back from breaking out or breaking a long run. Hard to believe he can continue being the lead back, unless he fixes it. He runs as if he needs to hit the hole immediately, like he’s not used to any blocking. Slow down my son.
it’s hard to believe he’s even our starting tailback after we gave Howard 9,750,000.00
i see mistakes left and right, we use our resources poorly and it’s glaring on the field of play.
I think we expect too much too fast. The draft isn’t something that brings the high results we tend to think it does. We draft 11 players and immediately we’ve got all of them contributing game 1, when reality says that if you have 4 quality starters from a draft it’s great. If you have 1 or 2 starter and a couple of role players it’s pretty good.
you do expect early draft picks to contribute when called upon or even being able to call upon them,
for instance Iggy…..Hunt…..Tua…..
He can take yourins and beat hisins…is Flores that guy now? Of course not, can he be?
I think he has a chance, but there’s phases he has to go through. We did a thorough player rebuild, so with such a young team Flores must get them thru step by step, and since he’s a first time coach he’s learning on the job too.
When I criticize him it’s meant to be mostly constructive. I think his strengths sometimes are his weaknesses in that he overdoes things. He wants playcalling to be innovative, yet at times it’s the wrong time. He wants to let his coordinators do their jobs, but sometimes needs to step in more.
It’s all just a learning curve and as long as he doesn’t take too much of a step back at times I think he’ll be fine.
I think his humbleness may be one of his biggest attributes, now compare that to Matt Patricia was an arrogant SOB. Look at Romeo Crennel, who’s also humble, but something seems to be missing in the overall knowledge dept.
Tua has marginal arm strength for those who say he has a cannon LOL. below is a pro QBs evaluation of Tua.
__________________________________________________________
The vast majority of NFL quarterbacks can push the ball around 55 yards down the field. Tagovailoa can do that.
It’s the long throws across the field, toward the sideline, or when, at the intermediate level, he attempts to fit the ball through a tight window when his weaker arm appears.
___________________________________________________________________
True thats a pro evaluation but i watched a lot of his games and have seen him his fast receiver in stride on those throws. The ball also doesn’t hang in the air on those throws so, i still dont agree with it, but im not a pro, as you said.
I won’t knock your eval because you aren’t a pro. I’ve seen plenty of pros do it worse. As it’s been said you don’t need a degree in something to be able to speak about it and vice versa.
What you just wrote is how I see it too.
I was the first one to bring up his arm strength here, before the draft, but his quick release, field vision and accuracy far exceed his arm strength, among other qualitues, so he’s got more than enough to be a great NFL QB.
Seems silly to knock him before he plays a down.
i’m not knocking him, he may be great but it doesn’t feel right that he can’t be considered a “best chance to win” guy at 1-3
can someone please inform our local QB guru?

i sure hope we get byron jones back this week!
4 TDs 5 picks….1-3…..shouldn’t it be TUA TIME?
I just see it as they have their timetable and their reasons, i cant say that its because they dont think he is good, and the statement by Flores doesn’t say he isn’t good enough or developed enough, it just says they feel like having the vet in there is a better chance at winning against some defenses that they feel are complex. They just dont want to throw him to the wolves is all im seeing.
