With all the flux in the lineup on the offensive side of the ball necessitated by injuries, COVID-19 etc, the one stalwart, reliable guy all season long has been #11, DeVante Parker. A look at Parker’s catch percentage of 65.8% might not be that impressive unless you watch the games. If you’ve been watching, Parker isn’t getting those easy throws, in fact it seems as if nearly every throw his way is a contested catch. I listen to WQAM as much as I can and NFL radio as well, and of course try to read everything Dolphins that I can. There’s a lot of talk about Tua Tagovailoa needing to learn how to throw to targets that aren’t wide open, as they usually were at Alabama. I believe it, because in some ways it’s counterintuitive. I think there’s a level of trust that a QB has to have in order to make those kind of throws and I believe that’s something that Tua will learn, and one that I also believe may take some time to develop. It’s a skill he hasn’t honed yet, so be patient, but it sure is nice to have to DeVante Parker here as a Miami Dolphin, because he makes those plays seem routine.
This week, the Joe Burrow-less Cincinnati Bengals come to town, in tow with a couple of former Miami Dolphins assistant coaches. Zac Taylor is the Head Coach, along with DC Lou Anarumo. As you know, the Bengals lost their promising rookie starting QB Joe Burrow to a knee injury and now have either last week’s starter Brandon Allen or Ryan Finley to choose from. Allen had an uneven start and apparently was lucky to escape with only one INT as he was consistently throwing into crowds. Either way, whomever starts at QB for Cincy has a tough task against our Miami Dolphins defense. Man, it just feels great to be able to say that and mean it!
As far as our Miami Dolphins offense, it’s still unclear as to who will be in the backfield. Myles Gaskin is designated to return from IR but it’s not a guarantee that he’s able to go Sunday. His former Huskie teammate Salvon Ahmed is also not a lock to play with a sore shoulder and last week’s primary ballcarrier DeAndre Washington has a sore hamstring. This could potentially lead to a Matt Breida and Patrick Laird backfield, but I have a feeling Gaskin or Ahmed will be playing and likely getting most of the action, it depends on how each one of them responds during practice, and maybe we even see both. The other big question looming is whether Tua Tagovailoa’s thumb injury is significant enough to keep him out another game which would have our wily veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick getting another cherished start. Fitz may really like Tua but don’t think for a second that he’s not relishing every opportunity he gets to start.
Depending on who starts for the Bengals, either Allen or Finley, they will likely have Giovanni Bernard as their starting RB along with a nice trio of WR’s including former pro bowler A.J. Green, very impressive rookie Tee Higgins and team leading WR Tyler Boyd, with 72 receptions and 723 yards. Higgins is the TD leader with 5 TD receptions. This is a different offense without QB Joe Burrows and RB Joe Mixon. Bernard will share carries with former Dolphins RB Samaje Perine. On defense, Jesse Bates III is having a nice season at safety with 3 INT’s and 13 passes defensed. Pretty impressive, as he also is 2nd on the team in tackles with 75. SS Vonn Bell leads the team with 85 tackles and if we know one thing, it’s never a good sign when your safeties lead the team in tackles. DE Carlos Dunlap was traded to the Seahawks at the trade deadline and basically leaves a toothless defense behind in Cincy. DE Carl Lawson (not to be confused with M’s fave Manny Lawson) leads the Bengals with 4.5 sacks.
Well, this is the easiest game on our schedule for the rest of the season with the Chiefs, Patriots, Raiders and Bills remaining after this week. That doesn’t mean we look past our opponent this week, I know Brian Flores won’t be doing that. This is a must win for us to stay competitive for both the division crown and/or the Wild Card. Neither avenue will be easy but wins mean everything and we better get one this week. At the moment, Cleveland is the top WC team at 8-3, followed by us and Indy but the Ravens lurk just one game behind us at 6-5 along with the LV Raiders and the South division may change hands so both Indy and Tennessee are in competition for a WC spot. Right now we stand as the 6 seed above Indy but this is very fluid and can change weekly. I say we take care of our own business and win at least 10 games and we should be in the playoffs.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

https://twitter.com/PFF_RyanSmith/status/1336000284720500739?s=20
He and Rowe have been a really solid tandem at S. I would like to see a couple more ints from our safeties but X seems to want them all for himself 😁
Safeties aren’t going to get ints if the CB’s amd LB’s are covering well. I think thats a product of not needing them as much to have the backs of the other defenders.
Traditionally a FS is a ball hawk and the SS is more in run support
Good ole Bobby McCain! Not sure if you guys remember but I was a huge defender of good ole Bobby.
Im not, though i can admit that he has played well. He still is a better slot guy than i think he is a safety, but maybe he lost a step and thats why they moved him. Safeties have it a little easier in coverage than a slot guy does. I still dont think he is the best we can do at safety but its good to see him helping us out more this year and making for a better chance at a big contract for himself.
Remember well — but was never sure whether it was about the player or cause you loved the nickname. 🙂
Both!

LMAO:
LMAO!
Least we ain’t one of the 6 teams not in it.

The AFC playoff picture.
1. Steelers (11-0) Still in the lead for home-field advantage.
2. Chiefs (11-1) Clinched a playoff berth.
3. Bills (8-3) One-game lead in the AFC East.
4. Titans (8-4) Owns the division record tiebreaker over Indianapolis.
5. Browns (9-3) Closing in on a return to the playoffs.
6. Dolphins (8-4) Still a chance in the AFC East.
7. Colts (8-4) Still a chance in AFC South.
***
8. Raiders (7-5) One game out in the wild card.
9. Ravens (6-5) Currently on the outside looking in.
10. Patriots (6-6) Tough road to a return to the playoffs.
Crazy to me the Steelers still aren’t clinched, thats nuts at 11-0
The biggest knock on McCain as a S is that he is undersized and thus not as effective in run support
That’s a big knock on an undersized guy. No respect! 🙂
Wyoming, you posted that video of Solomon Kindley’s first snap at left guard. That was not Kindley. That was a bulldozer painted aqua and white just to let you know.

X is very, very talented. Yeah he’s one of the best corners I’ve been around. He’s improving and he works at it on a daily basis.

Watching players improve and watching them develop is something we always have an eye on and we’ve seen that in practice and think we saw that yesterday. I thought he played well.

On up tempo offense
It’s week to week. Every week is based on what we see from our next opponent. We could turn on the tape and see someone else running no huddle against Kansas City and getting stoned every play in which case we wouldn’t do it.

These guys enjoy playing with each other. They care about each other. They celebrate with one another in good times, they support one another in bad times. I think that’s important on a team. This is a resilient group. This is a hard working group.
Phins are 24-14 at Hard Rock Stadium since the canopy was added in 2016. And not like the season records were good.
Ross said “let there be shade and wins in my stadium.”
Just saw an updated 1st round mock draft that had us taking WR Jalen Waddle at #9 and OLB/ILB Zaven Collins at #22. I would love that!
Lots to be happy about these days, but the Chiefs are coming.
—————————————
“The 196 yards gained by the Bengals were the fewest for a Dolphins opponent since 2017.”
“The Dolphins have allowed just 10 combined points last two games. That last happened in November of 2002.”
“Jason Sanders could miss his next five field goals and still maintain his spot as the most accurate kicker in team history”
“Jakeem Grant’s 327 punt return yards are 85 more than the NFL’s second place return man (Gunner Olszewski).
“Tua’s the third NFL quarterback in the Super Bowl era to not throw an interception in his first five starts (minimum 100 attempts).”
” Gesicki’s nine receptions Sunday were the most by a Miami tight end since Randy McMichael in 2004.”
“Needham allowed eight receiving yards on two targets in the game, including an interception and pass breakup.”

Five players who improved their draft stock this past weekend:
KYLE TRASK, QB, FLORIDA
He completed 35-of-49 passes for 433 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He became the first Gators quarterback with three 400-yard passing games in a single season. After this many games last year, all of Trasks stats exceed those of Joe Burrow except for completion % which for Trask is still over 71%.
MAC JONES, QB, ALABAMA
Trask, Jones’ skill set doesn’t check all the boxes and he isn’t the type of prospect I would invest a first-round selection on, but the season he has put together is impossible to ignore. Leading Alabama to a ninth consecutive win to start the season, this time getting revenge on LSU on the road, Jones completed 20-of-28 passes for 385 yards and four touchdown passes.
DEVONTA SMITH, WR, ALABAMA
LSU isn’t bragging about its DBU label after the torching it took on Saturday from Smith, who hauled in eight receptions for 231 yards and three touchdowns in the Tide’s 55-17 win. Smith hauled in touchdown catches of 65, 61, and 20 yards, showcasing both his ability to win down the field and after the catch. Smith has already logged a career-high in receptions (80), receiving yards (1,305), and touchdowns (15) in just nine games so far in 2020.
LANDON DICKERSON, C, ALABAMA
The Crimson Tide offense dominated LSU on Saturday Night to the tune of 32 first downs, 650 total yards, and 55 points while keeping Jones clean and averaging more than six yards per rush. It’s never overly sexy to talk about offensive linemen but Dickerson and the Alabama front five deserve plenty of credit for the success against LSU. Dickerson was a big-time recruit that spent his first few seasons at Florida State. While he fared well, the Seminoles were a mess offensively and he was playing out of position. Dickerson has found a home at center in Tuscaloosa and his dominant season continued against LSU. He is one of the season’s biggest risers overall.
QUINCY ROCHE, EDGE, MIAMI
Good stats, Stanger …. regarding Chiefs game we can sum up our chances with two words:
Red Zone
Defensively we need to avoid BIG plays by KC … more bend but don’t break … KC is ranked 24th scoring TDs in Red Zone, Miami is ranked 18th!!!
Offensively we need to be methodical to GET to the Red Zone where KC defense is dead last in the NFL for giving up TDs.
We just might be built to play this kind of game. Denver almost did it until they started giving up the big plays in 4th qtr.
Yep, if we win in the redzone on both sides of the ball, I like our chances.
Gonna be watching the game of course, but just hoping we look competitive. But heck yeah we can win.
“The 31-15 combined record of Miami’s final four opponents is the most difficult remaining 4-game slate in the NFL.” FiveThirtyEight gives us a 44% chance of making the playoffs.
LOL, it looks like things just got really tough for the Dolphins this weekend. Dolphins double-header!
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/nfl-picks-predictions-for-week-14-bills-shock-steelers-browns-get-revenge-on-ravens-bucs-right-the-ship/ar-BB1bIlrE?li=BBnb7Kz
“Week 14 of the NFL season offers a preview of the AFC playoffs.
There are four games between AFC teams with winning records. That starts in the 1 p.m. ET slot with Kansas City and Miami. Indianapolis faces Miami in the 4:05 p.m. ET spot.”
LOL — but we can handle it. Both games at Hardrock. Getting to a road late game on time might have been a real hassle.
ROTFLMAO! This is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen on Amazon. They’re gag boxes to put presents in.
I’m going to be a grandad in January, and every single thing I buy for that kid is going to be wrapped in one of these boxes. I’m seriously going to get every one of them.
I’m pretty sure my favorite is the ‘hermetically sealed baby’s first diaper keepsake frame kit’, although the ‘outlet safety plug nookie’ is pretty great too. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
RIP David Lander, and Sguiggy.

Damn both of them died?
David Lander played a character named Squiggy on a show called Laverne & Shirley. It might have been before your time.
Stanger – Were Lenny and Squiggy both on Happy Days before Laverne and Shirley or were they just in the spinoff?
I was going to say yes (Laverne and Shirley for sure were), but seems the answer is no.
“Lenny and Squiggy were bopping around long before the show. Actors Michael McKean and David Lander created the comedy routine while performing together in college. When the two became writers on L&S, they suggested adding the characters to the mix.”
I always thought they made an appearance on Happy Days but I guess not.
The Squiggy wiki does show he made one guest appearance on Happy Days.
https://happydays.fandom.com/wiki/Squiggy_Squiggman
Nice find. The one time on Happy Days was after Laverne and Shirley had started though.
Awesome. That video was infuriating.
Lenny however did not.
LOL, this should have been up above.
That asshat Williams only played 7 snaps against us on Sunday, and he does that on one of them? SMH
I didn’t see it, which Dolphin did Williams step on?
Kindley
That’s ballsy, Kindley could squash him.
Washington in striking distance of beating the Steelers. It would be great to be able to root against the Bills next week.
I’m rooting against the Bills regardless. 😉
LOL, hooked ya.
Yeah, we both know where we stand on this. Hopefully ‘The Football Team’ (LOL) gets it done and we stand united. 🙂
Just one of many dirty plays by the Bungles. They are flat out dirty. This was even early in the game while they were winning smh.

Asshole!
Beer…..glad he got suspended though – totally deserved.
Washington takes the lead 20-17 with 2:04 left
Steelers gonna lose!!! 🙂
Washington with a tip int!
Are we popping champagne corks?
Indeed, no longer need to think about it this year. 🙂
Washington 23-17
I prefer beer but what the hell I sip champagne
Thank you Washington Football Team.
🍾🥂🍾🥂🍾🥂🍾🥂💥😁
POP the champagne!!!
HELL YEAH!!!
#Shula
Woohoo!!!
Let’s go 49ers!
Was not expecting that !!! Tooo Sweeeet
Go San Fran
I was getting a bit nervous about the Steelers….. who would have thunk Washington would take care of that?
All year no team in the NFC East has beat a team with a winning record and in one weekend they beat 2 division leaders including the undefeated Steelers
🥂 this is for you Coach Shula
👍
my first thoughts as well. Shula didn’t get to celebrate this one.
Glorious champagne 🍾💦✨
Let’s go Niners!!
Sure hope the Steelers can rebound against the Bills next week! 😉
Zonk went bourbon!
Nice!
LOL
They say it’s bad form to quote yourself. Too bad. You’re going to get to read it again!
To wit; “The Perfect Season is what separates Dolphin fans from fans of EVERY OTHER FRANCHISE IN THE HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE. ONLY THE 1972 MIAMI DOLPHINS HAVE ACHIEVED “ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!”
Eat it! Sleep it! Love it! THE PERFECT SEASON IS OURS TO ENJOY!!!
By you know who.
Are you guys watching this shit! LOL WOW
LOL, not to get greedy, but if the Football Team had scored 2 more points, we’d be the #1 scoring defense in the league.
Also, no takeaways by the Steelers, so we are only 2 behind them in that category for the league lead as well.
Sheesh, I got more responses on Twitter than I did here (ZERO), regarding our sacred ’72 season… and my avatar on Twitter isn’t the greats #DonShula and #DanMarino, as it is here.
Just an observation
You mean because nobody responded to your comment directly? It’s a shared experience, bro. When we are all talking about it, it’s comradery and we’re all kinda responding to each other.
We’re all posting about it. LOL
GO BACK and re-read my post just up the page My Friend!! Believe me, I had YOU in mind!!
NOW I think I’LL GO BACK & HAVE A SECOND COLORADO KOOL-AID!!
AND MAYBE A THIRD ONE!!
GOD BLESS THE 1972 DOLPHINS!!
WELL, yet another attempt to repeat perfection just went up in smoke!
But, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, the SECOND PERFECT SEASON COULD BE JUST A YEAR AWAY!!!

ARE U READY, DOLFANS??
TD SF!!!!
Awesome win for Washington and cheering on Darla’s 49rs. 🐕🥃🥃🐬🏈
That’s pretty bad when they let you use the stadium, but don’t let you remove their name from the endzone! 😉
Lol…I thought that too.
See, and I think it was Ken who wanted the Ravens to win against the Steelers. Oh Ye of little faith.
It is all coming together. muhahahahaha
No, it was me. I was rooting for every team to beat them until they lost no matter the cost. That shyte is over now, lol.
No I wanted Steelers to beat the Ravens to push the Ravens further away from the playoffs
^ same here.
sorry Ken, it was Kong. LOL
WHERE’S THE CHAPAGNE!
Damn Allen doesn’t suck. I hate that.
Stars seem to be aligning for us today.
Or as my wife would say “The Dolphins Saturn phase is moving through the periphery of the moon’s ecliptic”
or some such shit
LOL
Sounds very California 😁
LOL
I am really hoping that the stej win a couple and that Jax gets the #1 pick.
That’s next. LOL
OUT FOR TONIGHT!
I think I may have a headache when I show up for work tomorrow!!
That pick of Coach being pushed off the field by Fins security guy is epic.
Then the replay of him turning down the fist bump on the sidelines after is his character.
He truly is a leader of men.
Agree
Flores has the respect of the entire organization and especially his players.
The kind of leader that will have FA want to be here to play for him
Yep! Every player in the league knows we’re trending up. 🙂
Doggie : who the Fuck is Darla ??🤡
Anyone heard from Bookman lately?
Think I remember him on here briefly last week , can’t guarantee it though
Bookman was on here last week, yes.
Not the 72 team though. LOL
Ken, you were right. Josh Allen is very good. You can see him maturing every year. His talent is elite.
I remember Ken and I were pushing for us to take him if he made it to us and people were all bitching about his comp percentage.
How’s that comp percentage now?
I liked his upside too. I didn’t love him or hate him. I knew he was huge with a big arm and could run though.
When I first saw him I thought he was the next John Elway except maybe even a better athlete
He’s bigger and a better athlete. Arm strength no idea, Elway had a cannon. So does Allen though.
They are very similar physically speaking. Elway was a little more polished coming out but it still took him a few years to put it together
Allen is bigger and faster to me. But they were/are scrappy in the pocket that can throw passes most QBs can’t.
Was me and Kong both. I wanted them to lose against someone before the Bills so I didn’t have a conundrum.
I told you guys they weren’t going to do it. 😉
Really went out on a limb there. Lol
LOL
Everyone else seemed worried. The Steelers are not the best team in the league.
I know….Stealers have had alot of luck. Lol
Any of you draftniks like physical RBs in the 2nd or 3rd round? I don’t want to use a 1st on a RB but we need a big back who can get tough yards. I don’t mean huge, just bigger and more physical than what we have.
BBMike has a couple NC guys he will talk your ear off about. 😉
Look at Fuckface making plays
Glad to see Perry and Bowden more involved. We need them. They might also be part of the plan moving forward. Those quick-twitch smaller receivers who help keep moving the chains moving, and could make a big play here and there. The Pats have been doing that for years. I’d like to see us add an explosive WR in the draft.
Stupid 9ers
Watching Josh Allen shows us why Flores wants as many top shelf DBs as he can get. A ‘do it all LB’ in the draft can put our D to elite status, and the Josh Allens will be nullified. If we get a top 5-6 pick we have a shot at Parsons. If not, then go best WR available and target Owusu-Koramoah with our middle/late round pick. Then RB and center in 2nd rd. done. Depth from then on.
Parsons and Waddle are who I want. Make it happen. LOL
We have the draft capital to add top prospects. This team does not need a bundle of draft picks and UDFA’s. They need difference makers to take that big step in 2021.
That said, this season is still alive and who knows what will happen? LOL
I’d add Harris to your wish list. :). I was all about Etienne for a long time, but Harris just has the vibe (and physical build) of a guy who takes over a game and can handle the punishment. Our Houston pick in early 2nd might land him. Swiss-army knife LB, WR who can separate, Henry-knock-off RB, …. oh yeah.
Rhino, Harris is a RB?
Najee Harris, Alabama.
Oh okay. Is he Derrick Henry 2.0?
10 yrs Flores was with Pats … despite the “Brady/Gronk” hype … Pats 1st round was dominated by defensive picks. Next most common was OL. 2nd round was where they found their best skill positions. 1st rd skill positions were not dominant in nfl.
I only say this because Flores learned from a (gag) ‘dynasty’ (at our expense).
I have a really hard time thinking a top 10 pick will be used on a skill position. Grier will surely consult Flores, but I can’t see a top 10 pick being used on a skill position (now that they have QB in place).
I think was with the Pats for 14 years.
started with them as special teams in 2008… with Fins 2019
He was a scout in NE since 2004.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Flores
Tim,
honestly, I was all about Etienne. But BBM’s love of Harris and video clips made me look for more info. I have been dragged ‘kicking and screaming’ to BBM’s view. Harris could be Henry “1.5” lol
ok. WTF became WFT beating Steelers !! but we’ll still need some help to win the division.
Now, off to find new lamps for bedroom to submit for my wife’s approval. 🙂 Seriously, finding a lamp your wife likes is harder than finding a RB. 🙂
Speaking of Perry and Bowden….
What’s the word on Preston Wilson?
Williams…..damn phone
Last I read he may be out for the season
3 days ago – Already on the Injured Reserve, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Preston Williams (foot) might not be back on the field this season, with ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe suggesting the injury may keep him out the rest of 2020. Williams could very well return for the final couple of games of the year, but by that point, fantasy managers aren’t going to be in a position to play him with championships on the line, right?
ALL BECAUSE a team mate jumped on him while celebrating a touchdown! We’re going to need Williams in the playoffs, that’s for sure!

I agree that on the first one it was pretty legal but the 2nd one was clearly early. I just didn’t like his douchebag reaction like he didn’t do anything wrong while Grant is lying there on the turf. Fuck him, I hope he gets crack blocked or blind sided!
When you are flat on the ground and the punt hits you in the legs…… yeah maybe the hit was a tad early.

I’ve been to Wyoming once, took a wrong turn on I-25 in Colorado, next thing i knew i was in Wyoming!
Those Bengals not only suck, they are some dirty mofos!
“Tagovailoa on average took 2.38 seconds to throw Sunday, the second-fastest in Week 13 behind Colts quarterback Philip Rivers.” — kinda stuff I like to hear. Seems when they went up tempo that included Tua getting the ball out.
dont get your hopes up too much, the bengals suck!
But isn’t it good to know he does have a quick release?
not sure if i’m sold yet, easy to have a quick release to an uncovered rec
I’m not sold either. But a quick release is a god given talent….. like with Marino.
RIP Chuck Yeager. A true American Hero who had the Right Stuff
Read a bit about him — that was one balls out dude.
I loved the movie The Right Stuff. The original astronauts and test pilots were all balls out
Read the book…. lot more about Yeager in there. And Tom Wolfe is just a brilliant writer.
I haven’t read the book yet but I really should
https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/nfl-offensive-rookies-of-week-13-panini
I think the starship launches today
It looks like we really hit on this year’s draft. 4 starters on offense including Tua and 3 rookie OL who have all played extremely well along with the rookie safety who has seen a significant amount of playing time along with Iggy who is still developing but he has had playing time and how can I forget our new long snapper
Don’t forget Davis on the DL too.
I think you meant him with the 3 OL
Yep I did but not well stated
I’ve felt in the past that we had a good draft and that feeling fades by year two
So it’s early
And let’s not forget how bad we were last year leaving those holes to fill
But early on it’s looks good
The Dolphins were committed to improving the OL last offseason
And I’m loving the results
We have a lot of draft picks to work with
But focusing on an area has a history of paying off
So maybe these OL improvements will go beyond the next couple of years
Usually by this point of the season we have an idea of what we have in the draft and I can’t think of a recent draft where I have seen this level of talent contributing at this high of a level that they are up and down rounds 1-7
Sheesh, I’m looking at our draft picks, and they are all major contributors except for Weaver (I don’t think he’s even on the team, right?) and Stowbridge who has had limited action.
9 out of 11 draft picks is fantastic.
I guess I wouldn’t call Perry a ‘major’ contributor, but he plays. I probably should have just left it alone with Ken’s statement instead of basically repeating it, lol.
Point is-excellent draft 🙂
It really looks like we crushed this draft even with the big swing and miss on Weaver
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2020/12/07/brian-onora-mlb-umpire-arrested-sex-sting-operation/6483082002/
I really shouldn’t joke about this, but if a MLB umpire’s career was going to end this way (or any other), why the heck couldn’t it be Angel Hernandez?
Seeking sex on the internet is illegal? Shit
Who knew? lol
I’d call that a good draft. Mainly cause no busts yet other than Weaver. Could biotch about no outstanding playing above where picked guys except Kindley, but that’s a real whinnney complaint given how many picks crash and burn.
Round 1, pick 5: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
Round 1, pick 18: Austin Jackson, OT, USC
Round 1, pick 30: Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn
Round 2, pick 39: Robert Hunt, G, Louisiana-Lafayette
Round 2, pick 56: Raekwon Davis, DT, Alabama
Round 3, pick 70: Brandon Jones, S, Texas
Round 4, pick 111 (from Texans): Solomon Kindley, G, Georgia
Round 5, pick 154 (from Jaguars through Steelers): Jason Strowbridge, DE, North Carolina
Round 5, pick 164 (from Eagles through Cowboys): Curtis Weaver, DE, Boise State
Round 6, pick 185: Blake Ferguson, C, LSU
Round 7, pick 246 (from Chiefs): Malcolm Perry, WR, Navy
Should also count Bowden because he is a rookie we traded for post draft
His cost goes on the 2021 draft’s books….. but yeah he is here already. Not like if we had given up a 2021 pick for him at the draft we wouldn’t count him as part of the class.
lol, awesome
I call that a win

Stanger, the 2.38 stat isn’t about a “quick release”: you’re talking about the time from hike to the time to get the ball out… which IS — in and of itself — impressive… albeit it shows that Tua was going to throw a short out regardless, in the huddle.
Rather, a “quick release” is the time it takes from *I’m going to throw the football* (beginning of ‘wind-up’, if you will), to final release. Example: pitching from the stretch in baseball vs not.
Tua does have a *relatively* quick release as a rook (it can get much better), but he’s not even in the same galaxy as Dan the Man.
I’m not trying to nitpick you, old friend… just trying to illustrate the fundamental difference to you. And I’m in NO WAY trying to attack Tua, who WILL become better and better!
I agree M13, even think a quick release is part of that timing. Glad to leave it at liked him getting the ball out quickly…. which is a good thing too.
I agree, Stanger. It’s certainly a good thing, to be sure… so long as it doesn’t lead to INTs by DBs jumping the route in the future. And THAT is where “release time” (such as Dan the Man) makes all the difference in the world, bud.
M13 – just liked that Tua was getting the ball out quicker than all the other QBs on Sunday save one. And he had a good day and we won. No INTs yet.
I don’t know what the future holds for Albert Wilson, who in my opinion, is one helluva slot option with his speed and YAC ability… and we’ve ALL seen it. IF his future is cloudy with us, and being we certainly need an infusion of Offensive talent, I’d strongly consider drafting Devonta Smith, WR, Alabama.
Tua and Devonta reunited just might be what the doctor ordered…
I’m beginning to believe that our Defense doesn’t need a SINGLE, STUD pass-rusher… being we have a collective and unique (hybrids) style of player on that side of the ball. As of today, I’d say we need more Offense.
Offensively, I’d say we need (in no particular order): blind-side ELITE RT (for Tua), RB, and WR.
I think he will get his shot to make the roster but I am guessing we are looking to add talent and his roster spot is not guaranteed. We have slot WRs in Grant Bowden and Perry. We need a guy who is a boundary WR and a real vertical threat
“It was like a lone mother lion attacking a pack of hyenas to defend her cub.”
LMAO — Mando on Flores run over to the melee. Guess he buy in.
M13,
While I absolutely agree with what you said about the time the ball is snapped to the ball is thrown is entirely different than release speed, I have to disagree about Tua’s release not being in the same galaxy as Marino’s. (And let me preface this by saying I am not sold on Tua being our franchise yet.)
Check out this article about Tua’s release and arm strength. The guy really breaks it down frame by frame, and according to these metrics only one QB has ever matched Marino’s release, that is Rodgers. And only one QB has ever exceeded Marino and Rodgers, and that is Tua. He also goes to show that Tua has good arm strength, but not great (that is for Ken).

Oh, DeShaun Watson also matched Marino and Rodgers, I forgot that.
And Tua’s arm strength is comparable to Watson’s as well, good, not great.
Just going by the eye test, once Tua decides to throw it that ball comes out pretty quick.
My thoughts exactly.
Either Steve or D put this article up before the season started, so since Tua started playing I have kinda been watching his release with that in mind. I didn’t want to believe anyone could have a faster release than Marino, lol. But that ball zips out of there.
There you had to go and get all scientific about it. 🙂
M13, right with you on Devonta Smith! I am thinking:
1a WR Devonta Smith or Jalen Waddle
1b LB Zaven Collins or Joseph Ossai
2a RB Najee Harris or Javonte Williams
2b OC/IOL Myers or Dickerson
3 DT Barmore or DT Slayton
4 S Caden Sterns
Etc.
Man, it is so nice to have 6 picks in the first 4 rounds! It is about time.
Anyone missing Fitz or Tunsil now?
Great job Grier!
We had that last year too. LOL
I know! Grier did a great job tearing down the old team and setting up for a FAST turnaround.
Kudos to Ross for green lighting it too.
“His game might be best described as 40-year old Drew Brees’s arm combined with 37-year-old Michael Vick’s legs. Tua’s unbelievably accurate, he’s got the quickest release I’ve ever seen, but he also has an undeniably weak arm. His biomechanics are very similar to Mike Vick’s, and Tua is very mobile, but keep in mind as a freshman at Alabama he ran a 4.76 40-yard dash. He’s not exactly a burner.”
Who said this? I think those comparison’s are stupid. LOL
It’s from the article above. I agree those comparisons are kinda dumb (I actually would have agreed with the Vick part, but said he has a normal Brees arm , but the blurb also lacks the context of everything he wrote about Tua, so it makes it seem like he’s just dissing him when the guy actually liked him. He saw him as the 2nd best prospect in the 2020 draft behind Burrow, but he doesn’t think he’s a generational talent.
Here’s the beginning and end of his summation which sandwich the part Rock posted:
“Medical evaluation not withstanding, Tua’s a difficult player to evaluate. When you take away the advantage of his surrounding talent, what does his game look like? I think Tua can be a really good pro, but I don’t think he’s the generational talent some are making him out to be.”
“Playing in the right system matters for every quarterback, but some may be more impervious to systems than others. I believe there are a hand full of coaches who could turn Tua into a perennial All-Pro. But there are probably three times as many coaches who could turn him into a bust by year three. The talent is obviously there, but whichever team drafts him better know what they are doing.”
All that aside, the blurb is just a summation of the guy’s opinion, which is a different aspect of the article than the breakdown of the statistical analysis and film metrics he used to calculate arm strength and release speed.
The way things are shaping up
Tim might get his lifetime draft wish
The truest BPA ever…lol
If we go into the off-season with our biggest needs being RB and WR, which is what it looks like right now, you can add quality players at those positions on day 2 of the draft
Maybe those 2 first rounders are luxury picks
And we can just take the best player on the board irrespective of any needs
LOL
The whole idea of the BPA is say you need a RB and WR but a prospect like Chase Young is there and he’s graded much higher than any RB or WR. You take Chase Young.
We have enough picks to take BPA and needs throughout the draft. We already have a pretty good team. We don’t need upgrades everywhere, we need impact players that make us a really good team and a contender for a championship.
