Week 17 – Dolphins @ Bills

The last week of the 2020 NFL Regular season is upon us, and no matter what the outcome of our game versus the Buffalo Bills is, I’m thankful for our Dolphins for giving us a great season. Whether we win or lose, make the playoffs or don’t make the playoffs, I think I’d be hard pressed to find a Dolphins fan that feels that this 2020 team didn’t exceed their expectations. This team had a bumpy start but once we got rolling, we have been an ultra competitive team. Our worst loss was the first game of the season against the Patriots losing by 10 points. Since then, our loss to the Seahawks in Week 4 was our 2nd worst losing by 8. Our seasons point differential is +96. We are the #1 scoring defense (points allowed) at 18.8 in the NFL. If I told any of you we’d be traveling to Buffalo Week 17 with a 10-5 record as the #5 seed in the AFC, there’s not one of you who wouldn’t be thrilled with those circumstances.

I’m not going to bore with you with last week’s theatrics, we won a game we had no business winning but we did win, and now we live to fight another day. Coach Brian Flores has already decided that Tua Tagovailoa is the starter. Is this decision made for this week or for the future as well? I’d say in some ways it’s probably both, but I also believe that Flores believes Tua is his best QB. I don’t think Flores is a puppet and no one is pulling his strings. He’s making the personnel decisions and he’s declared Tua is the QB. Once again, I mean absolutely no disrespect to QB Ryan Fitzpatrick but there is a fine line between Fitzmagic and Fitztragic. He’s a gambler, and as everyone knows, sometimes ya win and sometimes ya lose. I’m going to enlighten some of you here, so be prepared. Over Ryan Fitzpatrick’s career, his TD% is 4.4 and his INT% is 3.3. Tua Tagovailoa in his short career has a TD% of 4.3 and an INT% of 0.9%. This doesn’t tell the entire story, and there are many metrics to look at, but I think Flores wants a player that’s careful with the football, and Tua Tagovailoa is that guy. That doesn’t mean he couldn’t be better, he can, and hopefully Sunday he will be.

The Bills are 12-3 for a reason. The best teams in the NFL score points, and the Bills are the 4th best scoring offense at 29.7 PPG. Their passing offense is #2 in the NFL throwing for 4,398 yards. Josh Allen is having a monster year, completing 69.1 % of his passes with 4,320 yards with 34 TD’s and just 9 INT’s. The Bills defense is stingier giving up yards than our Dolphins as they are ranked at the #10 defense in the NFL but they are allowing nearly a TD more per game than our defense. Their rushing attack is on par with our own rushing attack and they have used a 1-2 punch with Devin Singletary and Zack Moss. They are 19th in the league rushing and we are 22nd. The problem is their rushing attack doesn’t stop with these 2. QB Josh Allen is a legitimate weapon with over 4oo yards rushing and 8 rushing TD’s. When they’re in the red zone, you have to account for the QB running as well.

On the injury front, we know that LB Elandon Roberts is OUT along with Jakeem Grant. Practicing on a limited basis were WR DeVante Parker, OL Solomon Kindley and S Bobby McCain. McCain is not a threat to miss the game. Both TE Mike Gesicki and G Ereck Flowers were both FULL participants. That’s good news. I think Elandon Roberts is done for the season and that’s unfortunate. He wouldn’t be getting as many snaps this week anyway because the Bills throw the ball more. Can we talk about a Dolphins defender who gets very little ink in NFL circles? #55, Jerome Baker is having a great season. He leads the Dolphins with 108 tackles, he has 11 QB hits, 7 tackles for a loss along with 7 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. This really is a no-name defense, with the exception of X who is known league wide. So many contributors including lesser known Zach Sieler, Elandon Roberts, Eric Rowe, Andrew Van Ginkel, rookie Raekwon Davis, Christian Wilkins, Nik Needham and a guy who leads the Dolphins in sacks, Emmanuel Ogbah. Hope Ogbah can be the first Dolphins defender since Cam Wake to have double digit sacks with a great game against the Bills. We need to take Josh Allen down! Hopefully Shaq Lawson can make it for this game, although AVG certainly made his presence felt.

In summation, I think it’s important to have the right perspective. The Dolphins are a team on the rise, no question about it. We have built a team so quickly it’s shocking. We are set up to have another strong draft and a top 5 draft pick which currently stands at #3. Once again we have TWO 1st RD picks and TWO 2nd RD picks, most likely 4 in the top 60. We also have a fair amount of cap space ($32M) as well to fill in Free Agency. The future looks so much brighter than we could have imagined. I didn’t expect us to be at 10-5 going into the last week of the NFL season. I didn’t expect our team to be this good, this fast. Whatever happens this weekend, the future is bright my friends, enjoy it!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Happy New Year!!

  6. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Needham has been scorched so far today. The NFL decided this year not to call offensive holding. That’s why there’s been a huge jump for guys like Allen this year.

  18. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t care who’s wrong or who’s right but Tua is going to have to make some plays if we’re going to win. Can’t throw the ball 2-3 yards and win

  19. no need for slow motion replay, fins were in slow motion real time, SMH

  20. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Wow, such anger and depression. First, this game is not over, second, there are other games that could get us in, 3rd, it has still been an excellent season.

  21. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Gotta get the ground game established? Is that it?

  22. the footing must be bad, or the players are sleeping, i have never seen such slow running before

we look like granmas running to bingo tables

  23. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Tua just needs to turn his earphones off and take over the playcalling

  24. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Steelers looking like they waking up 🤔👍

  25. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Every other play is a screen

  29. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It’s actually good for us to let our AB try to come back down big

  30. now that was a different play call, lol

    Steelers FG 10-6 browns

  34. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Terrible goal to go offense.

  35. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

That might be the worst play call

  36. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

    Just wow

  37. we need to draft Najee Harris, Bowden is not a good RB

  38. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Just terrible play calling

  39. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I am liking that Sermon at RB for us in the 2nd.

  40. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

What in the actual hell am I watching lol

  41. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Watching Brown catch that shows how bad we are at WR.

  42. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Jones beaten again

  43. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

    This is downright UGLY

  44. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Ok, that’s embarrassing

  45. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    No chance now

  46. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Do we seem a little tight?

  47. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Ok, either they open it up next half or I start wondering if they don’t think Tua is the guy. I see no improvement with our offense at all.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think this sort of handcuffing him is just they wait Gailey thinks a game should be callled for young QBs

I don’t think it’s a reflection of what they think of Tua

  48. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

1st game they haven’t shown up all year. It’s ok.
    Good season to build on.

  49. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

We’re going to get to see how well Tua throws the deeper routes now.

  50. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ken, no chance is silly. We have a big hole but we have a chance. If we stay with this conservative offense then yes, no chance

  51. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

We are getting embarrassed by a Brian Daboll led offense.

  52. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

When your QBs can’t throw the ball more than 5 yes, you can’t win.

  53. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I have no idea why this offense isnt going through Gaskins. He should be carrying or catching the ball nearly every other play.

  54. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

They look defeated perhaps because they know there’s no Fitzmagic available in their back pocket….

  55. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

    Go Tuamarinovaloa!

  56. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Didnt go for it on fourth. Smh

  57. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Guess at this point you go to the Steelers are down 10- 6 to the Browns at half. But then with our score they have nothing to play for.

  58. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Twice – I’d say Parker is just on the field. He can’t play. Hard to come back now with Bowden, Ford and Hollins

  59. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

At least take the training wheels off and see what Tua can do downfield.. call something other than the Gase looking swing pass for -3 yds

  60. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

You can t throw downfield on screen passes

Just let Tua set his feet and scan the field
If he takes some lumps now in the final
Game of the season, so what

This is an opportunity to see him do that in a real game

  61. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Piggy, we’d be getting in because we had a nice 10-6 season. No shame in that. Two NFC teams will be getting in with worse records

  62. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

We just don’t seem to have the weapons, and the play calling is suspect, which also may have something to do with the personnel, but Buffalo has an excellent team and Allen is playing great. we seemed to be just a tick late getting pressure on him in the first half.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think that playcalling inside the 10 is really about personal

We certainly have issues with separation
But inside the 10 that’s not a huge issue

That just a OC being overly cautious with a rookie

  63. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Exactly

    I’ve never seen that before

Why wouldn’t you want to let you QB take two shots at the end zone

After the loss, it ended up just being a prayer on 3rd down

  64. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We might ‘ve run out of gas.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Or we are playing one of the 2 best teams in the AFC….. and we aren’t quite at that level yet. I’ve wrestled guys that I knew couldn’t beat unless got lucky.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

We’re just playing a much better team. They’re really well built and on Year 4 of their overhaul.

  65. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

You know they should have been doing that all game WTF

  66. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

WTF, Parker take a shot during the half?

  67. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

See if we just had another real NFL WR …

  68. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

WTF? I’m kind of pissed off they didn’t do this first half.

  69. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I know I’m being critical but I do think Parker should have caught that PI play even though he was being interfered – fight for the ball

  70. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Dolphins Bobbitt Cox?

  71. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Nice not sure it matters but still nice

  72. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ken, let me help you here. Scoring points help us. 😉

  73. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Rudolph not playing for Steelers

  74. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

A defensive score would have us back in it.

  75. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Terrible tackling

  76. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Good ole Bobby McSplatt

  77. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I want to know how our coaches thought playing the shitty kind of offense we’ve used the past month was going to help Tua grow? We saw this in the Cards game…and we haven’t seen much since.

  78. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

    Steelers within 1

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Isaiah McKenzie a one man wrecking crew on us today

  80. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Ravens pouring it on , no help coming there

  81. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Ken Rudolph has been in and out, # 5 ?? Has been playing some , not sure who or why

  82. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

New Age, not sure if we’ll ever know whether it was just Tua or the game plan. I tend to think it was Tua just being too careful. Now he has no choice so fasten your seat belt!

  83. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Parker fell down

  84. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

    TD Browns

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

New Age, did your air bags go off?

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I wish we had seen some of this earlier honestly. You can’t grow if you don;t make mistakes. Parker is a WR 2 at best.

  86. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:
